A Look at the Powder Room
![]() |
Good morning, bloggers!
Just to clarify, there is a powder room on the first floor of the HGTV Dream Home 2009 (and below is a picture taken from the 90-second tour video to prove it).
MicheleC, the pendant lights in the study are called Starry Night Dark Amber Tech Lighting Mini Pendants. I think they look great too.
Eric, you were seeking some more detailed information about the construction of the flower beds. Steve Ledson’s son built the beds from lumber. They were painted with Sherwin-Williams® paint to match the house and lined on the inside with a thick layer of Visqueen. Visit the Garden photo gallery for more information.
Got a product question? Check out the photo galleries - you may find the answer there. The HGTV Dream Home 2009 galleries feature detailed descriptions of each room and fabulous photos you won’t find elsewhere on the site.

The fun continues …
Your Super Fan,

I am ready for retirement and Northern California would be perfect. Wine country all the way ! The house is perfect and beautiful. I would move my family in with my two dogs. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the win.
This is truly a dream home that I can see living in. Our children are all grown, so accept for visiting (which they do alot) or the grandchildren it will just be me and my husband. I can see us sitting on the patio enjoying our coffee alone and reading morning paper or frequently entertaining family & friends.
Over the last few years, my husband has had multiple medical problems and in June of 2007 he received a great gift from a stranger, a kidney transplant. We still have ups and downs, but it has brought back a great feeling that we can live a somewhat normal life. This home would give us a great environment to relax and enjoy the life we have left together.
I have read every entry, watched every video posted online, am a faithful watcher of HGTV, and have research everything about Sonoma. I am hopeful that this could be my home. I agree with some of the other bloggers, positive thinking.
I love to cook and entertain family and friends. Having 2 refrigerators, 2 dishwashers, 2 pantries, and all the different sitting areas, this is an entertainers dream home. And it would be nice to have a visit from Bobby Flay during the house warming party!
Gail,
I know that everyone who sees this amazing home can see themselves happily enjoying each and every room. It is such a beautiful home; the team did an outstanding job and seem to have thought of everything (even if we all thought that guests would have to travel upstairs to “powder their nose”). lol But, seriously, thanks for creating a home that I can dream about and wish and wish and wish for. It makes my hope of living near my brother seem so much more “do-able” (even though everyone who visits the site has hopes of winning and moving to Sonoma). We can all dream and all wish to win.
To whoever does have their name selected, congratulations! And to everyone hoping and dreaming; best of luck. Afterall, that’s what we want, right? The luck to be able to call this great house our home.
The delight never ends! It’s the most beautiful powder room ever! I love, love, love the outdoor living spaces for this home!! What’s not to love in this home?
The home is so beautiful, located in a beautiful part of the country. It is virtually free. No questions. I would accept it with total gratitude. My sister and son and first grandchild live in Cali and I am in Georgia and so I would walk there gratefully!
I have noticed that many bloggers aren’t thoroughly looking through this website that has most of the answers to people’s questions. And why so many whiners and questions in the first place, aren’t you all going to be overwhelmingly pleased just to receive such a wonderful gift, afterall that is exactly what it is.. a give-away GIFT!
I’m so glad there is a powder room on the main floor. I just love this house!! It reminds me of the house I gave up 8 years ago to go to a better job. There was a lot of good memories there.
I look at the pictures of the Dream House every day and dream…… This just the style of home that is me. I would really love to win and get back to California… Best of luck to everyone.
i am a grandmother, with one daughter, one grandaughter, and one hubby. i was wondering if you think the HGTV dream home crew would push together the kids beds. since i only have one grandchild i hope it will be better for her. what do you guys think?
OR, do you think they could replace beds for my grandchild? anyone have any suggestions?
The house is beautiful, I tour it everytime I can it is trully a dream home. I imagine my children playing in the yard, having guests for a bbq. I hope to win this time but if I don’t I wish the winner a lot of luck and many great memories in the dream home.

I was wondering about the downstairs powder room. Thank you for the answer to my thoughts!
So , there is a bathroom on the first floor! I was going to say….. that’s strange if you had to walk all the way upstairs to go to a bathroom! I have 1 question: Is there a basement to this house? That would be great for kids to put there toys. If you have a kid that is a girl not a boy you have to totally re-design the whole room for a girl!
I’ve been reading the blogs but can’t find anything about the property. Is it zoned for horses? I assume there is a home owners association to deal with, right?
I am so excited about the beautiful dream home. My husbund’s territory is mostly on the west coast, and we live in Ohio. We love wine counntry, and try to go once a year if possible. It would be great to live there. My husband has always wanted to live in a farmhouse like he grew up in. I always wanted to build a new house to look like an old farmhouse. This is perfect! You have even chosen colors that we have in our house now. I love to decorate, entertain, and have our family stay with us for the holidays. We were planning to visit wine country with our friends in the fall. It would be great if they could come stay with us in our new dream home. We are getting close to retirement, and what a great place to retire. Thanks for this perfect opportunity! Kathy, Oxford, Ohio home of Miami University.
I have gone through the website & blogs but still cannot seem to find much info on the square footage & lot size. Anybody know about this? Room sizes would be great too! I think people like this kind of info so they can imagine their family in it & how everything & everyone would fit. I do have a comment about the ceiling paint. Our home has colored ceilings as well, but we chose to go just a shade lighter. It really ties in your look. The rich colors with a plain white ceiling looks unfinished or as if the designer just ran out of nerve! (Which is why ours are lighter… ran out of courage! Lighter was our way of trying it out first.) Try a shade lighter to start… You won’t be disappointed! This HGTV Dream home is a beautiful house. Can’t imagine complaining about winning a home fully finished & furnished! We built our own & believe me… it is a LOT of work! (Ours still not fully done! The whole live, work & raise a large family thing!) To walk in & own a FINISHED house would be a blessing beyond measure! The time you save alone is worth a million! Think that through before finding things to complain about! We can learn to LOVE any color or style “Given” as this! Can’t wait to see it become a home for the fortunate winner! Direction to our questions would be appreciated! Thanks!
Have been reading the blogs since the beginning ….. so many questions and so much information. Erin I beleive the house is around 3200 – 3600 sq. ft. I haven’t seen anything on the acearage. It is such a beautiful area and a a beautiful home. I can’t find anything I would change. The colors… the design… the furniture… the appliance… the location …all wonderful. I think about it everyday. I think I may actually enjoy to cook in this wonderful kitchen. The double islands are great to spread out on. I have checked out the schools and the job situations. Of course we will have to keep working. Who cares the house is great and my husband and I love small communities. We can’t wait to move in!
Amazing! More surprise attacks everyday with this house! I wonder how they are going to surprise me to tell me? I love the shade of paint they selected, very earthy. Pedistol sink too? WOW! It just keeps getting better!
I still can’t find the info on where to get that rustic looking cross legged table in the family room. Also I would love to find those black interior door hardware… Please help… Thanx
how do i know that my entry wen in?
i sent a comment last night but i do not see it hop you read it
That is great that there is a restroom on the main floor. It would be nice if you could post a better picture of it. I would really like to see the entire room. I’m sure it’s not too big though since its under part of the stairs. The house is still very beautiful, every last detail.
Is every floor in the house made of wood? From all the videos and photos that I’ve seen the only room that I could tell that has carpet is the kids room. Is that how it is?
I love all the flowing white draperies shown thoughout the house. Are they all made from the same fabric?
are there any code issues with having a laundry co-located with a powder room?
Good to see the inside of the powder room on the first floor. I am truely in love with this house. I take all of my previous comments back about taxes. I want to win this house so bad. I could careless about the taxes, just let me win. Where there is a will, there is a way. Thanks Gail for another look.

Hey HGTV. My mom is soppose to be writing this but i am. My name is Izalena and i’ ve just turned 11 years old on Jan. 28.This might be crazy just like my 2 twin brothers and my sister.(all young. bro’s 2 yr. old, sis 3 yr. old)but i have never lived in a house that my mother have owned before.so i am just hoping if i can have just one chance to live in a beutiful house that was built by gifted hands that god had sent down to earth. right now my mom is at the hospital with my sister but she is coming home to go to work. on her phone her background said” i am tired of working”. i laghted my gutts off but at that same time i felt very sorry because sometimes she really means it and it shows it on her face too!i do my best to do whatever i can to help because i am a sucker for helping and caring other people.when i was on ur website,i was looking through the pics and it looks like it is a three bedroom house. pretty, but my mother has 4 kids. 2 girls and 2 twins sons. if there is more rooms terrific.if not we will still work it out because i live in a 3 bedroom house. VERY SMALL, NEED A LOT OF SPACE!!!!!!!!!!!!we defenetly need a larger kitchen because i love to cook for the family but there is absolutely no space for me to cook. and a cooker needs space when they need to cook for the family.my brothers and sister LOVE to rome around and at my house there is no grass to even let ur dog go outside. my mother is doing her best to make the community better because she is manager for mostly every complex.but she is in the hospital with my sister so she hasn’t been at work lately.that is a big no no from her boss if she does not come back to work i think her boss is understandable because she has kids herself and sometimes she cnnot attend to work.i just wish that something big in my life would happen to me or my family of cource because i love my family more than amything ever especially my mother that needs a real non-tiring life that will bring smiles on her face and warmth in her heart.
Love, Elisabeth’s 11 year old daughter, Izalena
