Good afternoon, bloggers!

January is just whizzing by, so it won’t be long now until a winner is chosen for the HGTV Dream Home 2009. (Did I mention that I get to go behind the scenes and check out the winner selection process? I can’t wait.)

Now, on to the questions:

•Although the wine closet in the study is not currently temperature controlled, it would prove an easy upgrade. Believe me, there are wine-storage specialists galore in Sonoma.

•Adding a female touch to the study would require nothing more than a beautiful bouquet of flowers and lots of shelf space to display girly things.

•Bay-area artist Anthony May is the person responsible for the artwork above the fireplace. The piece is entitled On Being Mortal (Part One).

•The double-mirror look in the master bathroom was created by layering framed mirrors in front of a flat wall-mounted mirror. This is another technique I will be using in my home.

Whew, just when I think all the questions have been answered, you come up with more! I love it. Don’t forget to check out HGTV Green Home Central for updates on the ’09 home currently under construction. And don’t forget to enter DAILY for your chance to win the HGTV Dream Home 2009 … you could end up livin’ in sunny Sonoma!

Your Super Fan,
Gail

  1. I love just the thought that I could win. Someone has to, so I guess why not me. I could not even imagine that moment so I will just dream about the Dream Home until then. Soon we will know who wins. What a wonderful thing HGTV has even done. I love watching the show even if sometimes my husband gets upset because I sometimes make changes in our home to something that I liked on a show. It happens we see so many wonderful ideas you just have to try some of them. To date I would have to say the worse one was when I thought I could put material on my walls in the cellar. Lets just say they, did a much better job on the show than I did. We did have to change that idea quickly. We do however have many that my husband does like and I love it because I do not have a talented bone in my body for decorating any rooms in my home. So it has been a great show for me to at least get ideas of where furniture can move in a room to open up space or even what hight to hang curtains and pictures. I cannot be the only one. Thanks Lisa

  4. The dreamhouse is very beautiful and is exactly what I would love to win in order to relocate from southern california where the weather is very hot and dry most of the year and certainly is not as pretty and lush as northern california is.
I have lived in southern california all my life as has my husband, and we are ready to relocate to a cooler climate and place of better resources for our special ed son age 15.
My husband is nearing retirement age, so this new home would be perfect for our family of three.
This beautiful home would certainly be a dream come true

  5. This is actually the first year I have entered. And my biggest concern has been…THE TAX ISSUE!! These blogs have been very informative….
Elizabeth (1/28) you were very detailed, Thank you….
Heidi D (1/30), you took it a step further. It just goes to show, that absolutely nothing in life is FREE.
Kelli (2/02) you answered my other question, regarding past winners….I can’t believe that none of the winners were able to keep the house due to the extremely over-whelming financial burderns…How sad!
How has this been kept so quiet????? As much of a Dream this “Give-Away” should be, it appears it may be a “nightmare”…again, how sad.
Don’t get me wrong, I still hope and pray that I may win….And somehow be relieved of this $900,000 tax burden.
Even if HGTV, the promoters, builders, etc…gave the CASH to cover this expense….the government still wants a piece of the action, we can’t get around it….thanks alot Uncle Sam!
Anyone have any ideas how this burden could ever be lifted, so the Dream Home can really, truly be a Dream Home?????? Anybody??

  6. This really is a beautiful home. I can’t wait to find out who is the winner. Especially if it is me or my wife. I would love that. The location is wonderful as well… even if I don’t win I would like to possibly move to Sonoma one day.

  7. Please tell me when the big reveal is scheduled. I have looked and looked at the website and cannot find this anywhere. Also, I watched the reveal of the winner last year, and HGTV had arranged some kind of “party” as a foil, but the recipient didn’t appear to be extremely “surprised” ….hmmmmmmmmm

  8. Hello To All You Dreamers!

I have spent about 5 hours today, 2/16 reading the blogs and well I learned some interesting things. First, I have been entering the 2009 HGTVDH since about 1/5 and I have noticed that once I put my email address in, everything else pops in except my state. However, I noticed that error early in the sweepstakes probably around the 10th day and just simply put it in myself. Smart huh! I also read the many blogs about the taxes and it somewhat got me a little scared, but I learned about the unclestan site and actually entered it for $4.95. Mayby they will pay the taxes on this beautiful home. Would be nice. But my biggest concern here is the fact that how could anyone afford the taxes on this home? I want to keep dreaming, but if I keep reading these blogs about the taxes, I’ll be dead stopped in my dreaming! I would love to win this home, however, I figure that not only does the IRS considers this type of winning as income, but I do too! Whomever the winner is, the house could be sold and take the proceeds from the sale of the house, pay the taxes, and run with what you got along with the SUV and I need a new car these days. I can also take the proceeds and buy my “real dream home” right here in Michigan and don’t have to worry about the taxes being so high. I believe it is worth the try and I am going to dream big regardless of the taxes. Anything is possible with God! Good luck to whomever wins. Don’t forget to blogs us so that we can share your happy moments. Who knows it may be me!

  9. Well, please disregard my previous request. I found it! March 15, 2009 at 8 p.m. is the reveal date.

Now I have another question. Who will be the “hostess” or “host” which will present the winner with the keys at the end of the program on the 15th? Does anyone know? I think my preference would be Candace Olsen. She is a hoot. Of course, she could bring Chico with her for more laughs. I hope to hear them both knock on my door that Sunday evening. As one blogger requested, I will JUMP with joy if that happens.

  10. I know this space may be closed to be posted, but I am hopeing that you will read this before the winner is picked. I failed to let you know that I have a 12 year old yorkshire that would be thrilled with the fancy dog house designed for some lucky good boy, {or girl}. His full name is Sir Sabastrin of Shiler, but we call him Sam. Thanks again for the opportunity to dream!

  13. I have entered everyday since January 2009. I hope I win!! My concern of course are the taxes that will need to be paid on the winnings. Will it be 40% of 2 million dollars? I was hoping to give this home to my mom and here boyfriend they are set to retire this year. They currently live in Southern, California with my little brother who is mentally ill. I hope the taxes aren’t too high because I would love for them to have this beautiful home. If they are I guess if I won I may have to sell it.

  14. I would like to know why you do not have it posted on the Dream Home Site about how much money you have to have before you can claim this “Dream Home”?
According to all I have read and checked up on, you have to have at least $900,000 in hand by the end of the month that you “win” this home!!!!
Now, I don’t know about most people, but if I had that kind of money, I wouldn’t need to try and win a “Dream Home” for I would already own one or two!!!!
Why is this not mentioned in all those beautiful TV ads, too?
Also, on the ad, you show this beautiful grape arbor and if you look closely at the pictures of this house, it’s nowhere near one, in fact, there are houses right on top of it!!!!
I love watching HGTV for some of the programs, but I really feel cheated when I see this ad!!!!
Not only that, but why don’t you ever, ever show people looking for homes below the $100,000 price, like most people are looking for today?
Okay, off the soapbox, just had to ask these questions and maybe get the stars out of a lot of poor or middle-class people’s eyes.
That is if you will even post this one??

  15. When do we get to find out about the SELECTION PROCESS? Will there be a show? I am very interested to see how they do it! I have entered on line and I mailed in entries. I am hoping to win this home for my family! We are relocating to Northern California, Sonoma would be a perfect place to finish raising our children, 9, 6, and just turned 5!! We went to Sonoma for my son`s birthday and got to see the HOME! It`s beautiful!!! We are DREAMING OF WINNING…….

  16. If I were to actually get lucky enough to win, I would want Miss Myles to present the notification. She reminds me of a boss I had that was real nice. I wish you all good luck, and I hope you enjoy the house (this is for the lucky winner). I would like to hear more about the taxes though. At least then I would know whether or not I could afford to keep it if I won.

  17. I know these wont be seen because of the deadline, but could you (if you have the time) email me to let me know the answers to my last post. It would help me and my family (who also entered) know it we have a chance…a real chance at a home like that. Thanks.

  18. To Jim with the dream – I to have had a dream. Not just one, but reacurring dreams that I have had since I was 5 yrs old. I would have these dreams frequently, always wondering but not knowing what they meant. I have not had these dreams recently,as I do not dream much any more, or it may be that I do not remember them, but I will always remember that I was surrounded by vineyards. I also saw an old Victorian style farm house with a wrap around porch that sat close to the road to the left of me. To the right in the back was a small vineyard and it also appeared to have what looked like a white picket fence in the air. These dreams have been a part of my life since childhood. Always wanting to know why and what this dream meant to me. During my travels if I should happen to come across a vineyard, I would explore to see if that was, in fact, was my reaccurring dream. I am now 50 and have faced facts that I may never know my dream and what it means to me. All I know is when I saw the dream home this year, the hair on my arms stood straight. I do not know that I will win the dream home (only the Lord knows that). I do feel, however, now knowing my dream, that I will move to Sonoma. Dream Home or no Dream home. I do feel, that it was this dream home and it’s contest, for me to find and research the town of Sonoma. I look at picture after picture and these truly are what I have seen time and time again, dream after dream.

  19. Yes, Yes, Yes. I totally agree with Ms. Cole on her February 19 post. The public ought to be able to see the selection process live and in person. How can we otherwise be assured the whole process is honest and above board? After all, President Obama is calling for more transparency in our federal government, why can’t we have more transparency in so called give-aways? I am wondering if there are ever any winners in most of these “contests” we see advertised, especially in the categories of food. Or is it just another way to harvest names, addresses, and e-mail addresses, which are sold to marketing companies?
