Blogger Party and More

Good afternoon, bloggers!

I really hope that the SISBP happens! That’s “Sippin’ in Sonoma Bloggers Party,” for those of you joining us regulars. My corn and heirloom tomato salad is the recipe my friends most often request and is unbelievably simple. It will be perfect after a trip to the lovely Sonoma Farmer’s Market or during your own summer picnic. (I think I got the recipe from a Williams-Sonoma cookbook, so it’s a fitting recipe, considering the company was established in Sonoma!)

3 cups fresh white or yellow corn cut from about 6 ears of cooked corn (I just boil the ears for a few minutes.)
1 large heirloom tomato cut into bite-size pieces (or 20 cherry tomatoes, halved)
2 tablespoons finely chopped basil
1 tablespoon finely chopped flat-leaf Italian parsley
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon red-wine vinegar
Salt and pepper, to taste

Mix all ingredients together in your favorite serving bowl; cover. Serve at room temperature.

Now, on to some of those questions:

•Several of you asked how interior designer Linda Woodrum created that fabulous master bedroom canopy. She worked with experts at Ethan Allen to design and assemble the canopy, but you can easily recreate the look by following the instructions posted by HGTV Dream Home fan Katine. She posted photos of her HGTV Dream Home look-alike bedroom on Rate My Space. Check it out – amazing, don’t you think?

•The Chandelier in the master bedroom is the Eight Arm Bell Chandelier by Ethan Allen.

•Lastly, a lawn mower is not included in this year’s giveaway. Put one on your “need to purchase” list. Make sure it is a push mower – you may need the exercise after lounging the day away in your new HGTV Dream Home master bathtub. (At least I would.)

Your Super Fan,
Gail

  1. My best friend, Candi, sent me the “enter your friend” site, so I have been entering. I have never won anything before, but she has won a big trip, and that made me realize that maybe these things weren’t really rigged. I can see my family living in this house. MY FIRST GRANDSON IS BEING BORN THIS VERY HOUR, JACK LAWRENCE, WE ARE OFF TO SONOMA!!!!!!!! Blessings to all who have allowed themselves to dream big in these trying times…it makes for a lighter attitude all around. Thanks HGTV!!!!

  4. I am soooooooo in love with this home I have always wanted to raise a family in a farm house and a beautiful garden. The dog house is perfect for my 7 month old Golden Gracie, lol! My fiance and I have been looking for a wedding location in California whee we are originally from and haven’t found one yet and our wedding is in May Sonoma would be so perfect all of our friends and family are either from Southern or Northern Cali so we want our wedding on the west coast plus the weather is so much better then where we are now in Southern Indiana. I would so get married in that amazing yard or a local vineyard! We need a home on the west coast so badly I would be there all the time visiting my loved ones and this would get us one more step closer to where we want to live.!!!!!!! Oh by the wasy love you amazing salad my fiance loves herilooms yummy!

  6. Esla- Beautiful poem, thank you!
Marie Miller- If I don’t win, I am hoping you do! If that is the case, please invite me to partake in that delicate vino so I can hear all about Coop’s travels! hehe.
OMGoodness! This is crazy! This is not a joke, you will never believe what just happened and of all days!!!I just got a call and my caller id had a 707 area code, I pick it up and the lady on the other end said “Hello, is this Jenny?” Okay, I was freaking out for a moment, I said “yes, it is” in a kind of weird way, I don’t know why it had to come out that way, she must have thought I was strange. Anyway, HGTV Lady- “Hi, this is (I already forgot her name) and I am calling from the HGTV Dream Home…” I don’t even remember hearing anything else, it was blah, blah, blah. Then she said that she was calling to see what time I wanted to visit the DH on Saturday. WHAT? I already made res. and paid for my tickets. What’s going on???I told her that but not in that manner, I was trying to keep cool. She then said, “Okay, yes I do see your name here but we were just calling people back that had called earlier in the week that had left messages”. Very weird.
Believe me people, I almost screamed on the phone when I saw the area code and the phone conversation started but then I was thinking there are still some 8 hours to go before they pick the winner, what is she trying to do, kill me? My heart was racing and I was holding on to the counter with white knuckles.
That was a little taste of what the winner will go through I guess. AMAZING rush! Not kidding, that just happened as I was adding to my blog, I had to tell you all.
Okay, I need to go outside and get a grip…

  7. To all of the bloggers of the 2009 HGTV Dream House, I have enjoyed sharing dreams and fun with all of you. I’m looking forward to meeting some of the group this Saturday in front of Ledson’s hotel in Sonoma at 1pm. I wish the best of luck to everyone. I don’t have a poem to share but I do remember a toast that I learned many years ago from the person staffing the tasting room at Buena Vista Winery in Sonoma (oldest commercial winery in CA, since 1857). It went like this: I drink to your coffin…..made from the wood of a 100 year old tree….. that I shall plant tomorrow.

  8. Good moring dreamers! I just put in my last entry for the DH 09. I know this is silly but I almost cried. in this dream is truly an inspiration. My best wishes and love to you all and good luck! Dreamers, keep on dreamin’!

  10. Bonnie B- Oh that is great! I will be there and I am bringing my mother with me. My husband will be suffering from jetlag so will stay home this time.

Okay then, how will we know who is who? Should I just randomly ask everyone in sight if they are a “blogger”? Is there a code word? How about, SISP or HGTV? This will be fun to meet everyone and chat, glass of wine anyone? We are going to the right place, why not? Our tour is not until 4pm but we will be there early to have lunch then meet with all of you.
    Looking forward to it!

  11. WOW!! I’ve hit the “Mother Load” of Quotes and Poems today! Thanks everyone – As you all know, I’m collecting these to go into the book or cookbook that we will discuss at the SIS party! This will hopefully be published by 2010! Of Course, all the infamous bloggers will be included, DBCoop, Marie Miler (oops, Miller), Brenda(s), Bonnie (s), JanV(s) & moms, 2Cherubs, LovelyLady (I mean Lovekitty), Victoria, Tom, all the Jennies — and all the other wonderful bloggers out here – the list will be completed at the very end.

  12. I have an idea for the SISP. When we decide to do it, let’s make sure that the weather is ideal for a comfortable evening outdoors. I will bring my gigantic inflatable movie screen (30ft by 26ft) and my entire sound system and set it up on a lawn somewhere and we can all watch the “ambush” again together! Sound like fun?

    Jenny D on February 19, 2009 at 2:31 pm
  13. Oh! Please be nice to me, I gave blood today!
BTW – I am announcing that all you DREAMERS out there are all WINNERS!!!

  14. JENNY D – Next time I’m up EDH in the summertime, I’ll check out the movie nights. Serrano is a wonderful community – and we’re hoping to move up there one day.

GINA – thanks for the info about your restaurant – I’ve bookmarked your site and it looks like a great place. I will be sure to say hello to you.

EVERYONE – I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST OF LUCK IN THE GIVEAWAY. I’LL BE WATCHING ON MARCH 15 AND BLOGGING ON HERE ABOUT YOUR WINNING MOMENT.

  19. Wow, there is a second Elizabeth (E)!

Well here is a note from the other Elizabeth to all my fellow bloggers-

The HGTV web site has been my initiation into a blog site, and while I haven’t met you in person, you all were very friendly.

I wanted to thank you for sharing all of your favorite quotes, they have provided me with inspiration – I have copy clipped them and have added them to my desktop, and will look them over once every now and then, and smile :^)

    Best wishes!

  21. Just wishing you all the best of luck. I’ve read all the blogs from day one. You’ve asked all the questions that I would have. And gotten all the answers I’ve need it.

My husband and I will have to toss a coin on the garage. He is a collector of many things and a Master Gardener so he would want it as a workshop. I paint and teach art and would love it for a studio (if possible) My dog, Beatrice Beagle ,would love it too as would our meow.

If we win you all come. We need some help drinking the wine, and eating things from the garden.

If you win please let us know how you and are doing and all the news from there.

    Naughty Nan.

  22. This is a beautiful home. My family and I live in tribal housing which i am so grateful for but a home like this would be hard to imagine. I dream of this house. My husband is a farmer so this would be ideal for a little farm spot for him. I am a writer and we have a dog and 3 teenagers. The best thing is…it would be a fresh start in a new place that isn’t so oppressive. I would move in a minute.

  23. Hi Everyone, Well, this is it! Now, all we can do is continue to dream and hope for the best. I have never won anything in my life so it would definitely come as a welcomed shock to me. Also, if I am the winner let this blog stand as my open invitation to “Shelley’s big blogger party”. Bring a dish because I’m assuming we wil need plenty of food. Oh, and don’t forget the wine since it shouldn’t be too hard to find a good bottle!. This is also a personal message for Kim Myles, my little girl is requesting a theater room. This has been so much fun I regret it has to end. Although winning can only happen for one of us I wish it could be all of us. This has been great and to the HGTV staff if I’m lucky and you have to travel to Cleveland, Ohio grab some boots and wear some warm coats! I’ll be waiting for YOU! Good luck to all! Shelley, Cleveland, OH.

  24. From the first Dawn Chorus to the last cricket chirps at night, Sonoma really sings: environmental and agricultural beauty, vibrant community, and wine country style – all resound with ‘good luck’ vibes – a special locality, so fun to share. My own dreams join those of all the other entrants who desire healthy, sheltering, and welcoming homes for one and all (critter’s included). Here’s to the Dream Home and HGTV team for encouraging the country to ponder, in enjoyable unity, what it means to ‘dream big’. Blogger party? Count me in!

  25. Hi to all the bloggers.
I just found this sight today and wanted say I would LOVE to have the SISP event at the house if I win. If not, then we should request the winner to host the event. An idea to keep the winner in the home. Have an open house around Christmas every year (next 3 yrs?)and charge a fee to attend that would go to the owners and a charity. The open house could be a 2 or 3 day event. Good luck to all of you that have participated in the blogs here, I hope it is one of us. CAT

  26. I believe Marie Miller has already expressed an interest in publishing a book of the bloggers quotes and recipes and found the perfect title: “The Delicious Meal of Words”. You are so clever, Marie, and it is good to have you back.
JeanIsDreamin: About the T-shirt, you are so right. What was I thinking?! Maybe Marie would help with the slogan.
Coop: When you get your Condo in paradise decorated, maybe you would honor us with some pictures? And if you happened to be caught in one of them, that would OK too.
Wishing all of you dreaming dreamers the best of luck.

  27. Thank you Jessica, Deryck, JenniferD, Marie Miller, Renee, Jenny D, Jefferson and everyone who took time to read the poem.

Jefferson I love that you are open to help the winner live his/her dream by keeping the home, I am all for that also.
I hope the other bloggers can share in that too.

BLOGGERS if you want to help the winner we need to start planning ASAP maybe Gail can assist in that area.
I am willing to donate $100.00 I think if everyone helped the winner would appreciate it. give what you can afford and hopefully every year we can do this for future winners also.

  28. The house faces almost due west. The house is on Fifth Street, East – all street nomenclature in the old part of town is based on where the street lies in relation to the town square. The dream house is about two blocks off East Napa at 5th Street East. The house faces onto 5th Street which means – ta da – it faces west. The vineyard is located on the southeast corner of the lot.

  30. I gurss I will be the only one that everyone will know Saturday, being that i have posted pictures of myself.

I just got a E-mail from La Salete about the special they are having for “Sopas” for $15.95. It is a special Portuguese dish that they serve for Festas through- out California.

So make sure you ask about that. My husband and I may go after our tour.

I agree with Gina, (I still think I know her) it is a GREAT resturant.

  31. Esla Sinclair- I’m with ya!

I’m sad not to see the section, “Go to the Giveaway” . It’s all over and I am really looking forward to going on the tour this Sat. We are helping a good cause and we are getting the opportunity to see “The DREAM” up close and personal. It’s strange how it has become very personal and now with our tickets purchased and plans of the beautiful drive to one of my most favorite areas, I will just take it all in and relish in the day. My dream of owning the home will be somewhat fulfilled and realized just by being there to explore and confirm just how truly beautiful it really is. That is enough for me. It’s a long shot to win but at least I can take that little piece of fantasy with me and say, “I was there!” while watching the reveal. Congrats to the LUCKY WINNERS!!!

Thank you all for all of the uplifting poems and words of wisdom, we do have some very wise people out there as well as funny and very talented. It’s been a true pleasure to participate in this special event.

I look forward to making the SISP.

  32. Hi Bloggers, (Gina Betti here) I’m just back in…(Sorry I have been very busy)

JENNY D – Thanks for the compliments on MANGAROSA. It is a lot of fun on Thursdays for sure, with the dancers all over, good food and great vibe. I really hope you can come and see me over there. Just let me know when you can stop by .I’ll be very pleased to meet you. Also I hope you have a good time at La Salette and enjoy the experience over there. I also LOVE good food! Let me know after…

SHAR – I like the idea of the fundraiser for the DH 2009 taxes for whoever wins, but my restaurant (www.mangarosasf.com) is not in Sonoma, it is in San Francisco. I think it would make more sense if it is a local restaurant involved directly with the local community. UNLESS… “IT IS ME” then I’ll definitely hold the fundraiser in my restaurant! ahahahahah!

LOVELY KITTY – I’m glad you also like La Salette. Great food! But I’m sorry to tell you that I’m NOT the Flight Attendant! It would be indeed very interesting if I was that person and you found me on this blog! But I DO leave in San Francisco and I really hope to see you as well at Mangarosa, and perhaps bring back memories for you when you used to fly to Brazil (Caipirinha, Pao de Queijo, Espetinhos, etc…etc…) Please let me know when can you come, and I’ll be glad to meet you as well.

ANOTHER DEBI IN CALIFORNIA – What else can I say? Hope to see you at Mangarosa as well! Maybe YOU ALL can come at the same time and we can have a great time together! JUST LET ME KNOW!
LET’S KEEP ON DREAMING! AND GLOD BLESS AND GOOD LUCK TO US ALL!

  46. I am in favor of not just a one time SISP but it would be great to see it happen annually. We could get local restaurants to participate and maybe get the Ledson Hotel or another hotel or B&B to offer a special “SISP Weekend Package Deal” for that particular weekend. They may even agree to give a small percentage of what they make from the bookings to help with costs of the event. There could be a code word when making reservations and whoever is interested could go to the HGTV website to retrieve it.
Then we could possibly get whatever restaurant, wineries, Ledson Hotel and any other local businesses that would like to participat to donate services, food or funds to the annual SISP. It would be great advertising for Sonoma and local business and we could continue it year after year. We could fun prizes or raffles at the party donate by local businesses in the area like spas, wineries, hot air balloon rides, whatever Sonoma has to offer. That would be such a blast. I do that sort of thing here in EDH for my summer series and the community loves it! Who knows how far it could go.
Just a thought. As you can see I am already planning on the SISP to really happen.

When I came home last night I noticed my limbs from the previous ice storm had been picked up. But mine was the only one that had been cleared on my street. I got so excited thinking that the cameras must be somewhere waiting for my exit from my Jeep. My goodness I thought I would hiper-ventalate. I’ve got to calm down, starting to imagine things, Oh, but that’s just part of big dreaming. Maybe I’ll just keep getting excited! yeah!!! Not giving up on big dreams! BIG DREAMER!!!

I finally got a chance to read all the past blogs, my daughter went back to school today. I hope she feels well enough and I don’t get a call this morning having to go pick her up.

Wow, I went straight to the blog instead of entering first, that was weird,

Lovelykitten, my tour is at 12:30 and I don’t know how long the drive back from the home is, but I will be there a little after 1pm. I will be getting there early so I can find parking and get a feel for the area. You’ve taken the tour before, is there ample parking, are they meters (do I need change?) or 2 hour time limits? Would really like some info on that.
I am looking SO forward to meeting up with you, It looks like we will have company, Jenny D, Brenda, and Bonnie B. How fun is that! It’s a pre-SiSBP:)

Brenda, were you able to get tickets? I am sorry I missed your post asking about them, I was just jumping on and quickly skimming thru
when my daughter was sleeping a little bit. I hope you got my last post about calling for reservations and telling them you were a party of 1, not a big group, and the times that each of our tours are…
I read someone asking if you were better, You were sick? I hope you are feeling better :)
It was suppose to rain on Sunday, but I just heard it might start Saturday night, I hope not, I do not like driving in the rain.
And I think the name tags that rhonda priest brought up were for this weekend, not the party, I’m not sure? But since we have a meeting place I don’t think we need them.

Jenny D I am thrilled to be able to meet you and talk about the SiS party in person, Glad your mom can come too! Don’t know what we will be doing during all day but if it fits in maybe we can scout out the park or possible sites.

Bonnie B, I don’t remember if you had to be back for work either before you came or after, If you can’t be there at 1pm’ish let us know what time you will be there. You and Brenda have always been so quick to answer many of my questions over the last month, I really look forward to meeting you in person.

If anyone else coming can’t be at the Hotel around 1′ish and wants to meet up with us later, post the where and when’s. Hopefully it will be a nice sunny day and won’t rain until we are all home safe and sound:)

rhonda preist, I’m sorry you won’t be able to join us this weekend. I’m glad so many people gave you input on bowling alleys, I posted a site for you to check out too, Look forward to hearing more of your great ideas about the SiS party.

Esla Sinclair NY, You have some wonderful ideas, Gail and a guest book…, Writing a page about not winning, our life and experiences from the DH09 sweepstakes… to be read tor the group or put in the book… The T-shirt sales… All Fabulous ideas, Thanks and Keep’em coming
And it does often rain on Memorial Day weekend, but not always:)

I’m not sure who wrote about having some friends who cater in SF and LA and having all kinds of different food, that would be great!
(it was in all caps, I don’t have the time right now to go back and reread them all, maybe it was Lily-Beth Reilly Not sure:) but thank you!

Katydid, I love the T-shirt idea, It seems that a lot of people are jumping on that.

Jacqueline If we’re thinking of the same song, I think it’s LL Cool J “Going back to Cali”, who made calling California “Cali” popular. Before that song, any CA native I knew would cringe if an out-of-stater called it that, Or if an out-of-towner called “The City” “Sisco” bad, but not as bad “Frisco” Auggh, My shoulder still twinges aliitle when I hear it, (and I really like the song), but no where near as bad as when I was in my early 20′s and worked in SF :) Sorry for all the rambling If that’s not the song you meant:)

I am so excited about the SiS blogger party – SiSBP?, I’m glad to see people are excited about it too. Now that entering the contest is over and almost every question that could be asked has been answered,Almost… we still have something to blog about while we wait…

I think Jenny D who threw it out there that if anyone has any questions we could ask while on the tour – post’em! I know I have a list started, Are there speakers throughout the house? Water in the garage?, Outlets under the table in the study? Any of those couches sofa beds?, Some one asked if that was an alarm system for the Master bedroom closet… Do any of the drawers lock in the MB closet for jewelry or important papers? Did I miss anything?

The contest kinda reminds me of Christmas, (The holiday celebration part – not the true meaning of the day) All the excitement, preparations, and planning for it – and then the day comes, and then once its over, if you didn’t get what you had wanted, all that’s left is the cleaning up and putting it away until next year when you start all over again. Don’t have time to proof read this, hopefully it makes sense;)

Hope to hear from all the Ladies that are coming this weekend to be sure we’re still on. I can’t wait!

Good day to everyone, Good Luck, and God Bless
