Super Fan Chats with Kim Myles
Today, Super Fan interviews talented interior designer Kim Myles about her kids’ room creation - inspired by her love of cool, fast cars!
And for all those who doubted the existance of a first-floor bathroom, please watch the entire video for a great shot of the powder room.

I am so grateful to have won this amazing home and car in beautiful Sonoma, California. I have always wanted to live here and now my dream has come true. My daughter, son-in-law and their kids will love visiting the yard and scoping out the town of Sonoma. I can take care of my parents here as well as entertain my Texan wine-loving brother and family. It is so perfect! Thank you for allowing this to happen. Love is in the air and it’s followed me to Sonoma! Yippeeee!
That room screams my 6 year old son’s room. Perfection! I love Kim’s style and she seems so fun.
I was wondering, I see that there are tacks on the wall to accent to wall border, by the way is awesome. What are they made of. Also, I like that there is carpet in Jack’s room, (hehe, my son’s name) but is there harwood under the carpet? The whole house is just perfect for us. Just the 3 us and the guest room would be ideal for our many guests that will come to visit after we win. Okay, so I am being a little presumptuous, sorry. I just absolutely see our family living the dream in Sonoma and in this special home.
Really, good luck to all! Back to DREAMIN…

For each and everyone of us dreaming here
Your presence is a gift to the world,
you’re unique and one of a kind.
Your life can be what you want it to be -
Take it one day at a time.
Count your blessings, not your troubles,
and you’ll make it through what comes along.
Within you are so many answers,
Understand, have courage, be strong.
Don’t put limits on yourself;
your dreams are waiting to be realized.
Don’t leave your important decisions to chance -
Reach for your peak, your goal, and your prize
Nothing wastes more energy than worrying -
The longer a problem is carried, the heavier it gets.
Don’t take things too seriously -
Live a life of serenity, not a life of regrets.
Remember that a little love goes a long way -
Remember that a lot of love goes forever.
Remember that friendship is a wise investment,
Life’s treasures are people… together.
Have health and hope and happiness,
take the time to wish on a star.
And don’t ever forget for even a day…
How very special You are
Hey Fellow Bloggers–Happy President’s Day!
Diana-LOVED the movie Sideways! It was funny and had great scenery. My husband had just returned from a “wine country” trip with his best friend when that came out!! His friend has since passed away so that movie is a great reminder of special time spent.
Thanks Gail for your ever-informative video’s/pics with the decorators of the DH2009. My 13 year old son LOVES Kim’s room and says it would be great to have the two twin beds for sleepovers with his buddies.
Hope this finds everyone taking advantage of a well-deserved holiday–it is beautiful here in Texas today!
Keep the faith and enter these remaining 4 days for your best chance!! Positive=Possible!
Hi Gail,
We all know that Kim is fantastic. I really love the concept used, it take my vision away from the ordinary, most would be looking forward to a neutral in this case but nope, Kim has created a dare to try kids room which I think is great as is for a boy, or throw some pink in and its great for a girl. either way the room looks spectacular. I watched the shown down and thought those kids rooms were great, but the DH kids room I prefer. I just filled the walls of my mint green room with light and dark pink heart post its. its just for valentines and it cost less than $5.00 my daughter loves it. Hope she could claim the DH kids room very soon.
Love

Diana and Melinda, Didn’t know if you knew that the movie, Sideways, was filmed in the wine country just north of Santa Barbara in Santa Ynez, Los Olivos and Buellton, not the Napa/Sonoma area.
Entertaining movie, and definitely NOT for the kids.

my dream coming true about win a House and I had cancer illness and I feel never had own house before.. I would like to have new a house’s sweepstake for Feb 2009 I will be first time new a House someday..I want live in calforina luxury house for all family and share with me..
GREAT JOB ON THE ROOM MYLES! Just because kids cannot enter doesnt mean they are not dreaming big too! Love the color tones, very calming, I will no longer have to share the bathroom with the whole family! Cant wait to move in. Keep up the good work HGTV!
Hello all, I am so excited! We are going to tour the Dream Home this weekend! It’s a beautiful short drive and the weather is supposed to be good and the storm will be over by then. I will take some pics and if anyone is interested in anything in particluar, let me know.
They will have chosen a winner by then so, we just may be touring our own home! Ya never know. I just want to see it in person before it’s all over, anyway and I am sure it will exceed all of our expectations.
I am looking forward to exploring town again and see what’s new. Does anyone know of a new local restaurant in town that is a must? I will miss reading everyone’s blogs when it’s all over. I don’t respond to many but enjoy the comments and suggestions from all. We are all one with DREAMING and hoping that on that special day, they choose one of us!
Again, good luck to all of you!

Kim Myles congrats on your show. I was rooting for you! I love what you did on the DH2009 walls. I love the design overall. Great job AGAIN well done{;^)
I liked the room. I am glad she chose a theme and really went for it as opposed to a neutral unisex room. That being said, I am not sure my only child, a 9 month old would appreciate it the way I am sure 6 year old twin boys would. But having a place her friends could sleep over in when she was older, and the beautiful book shelves are so great. Love the carpet and the cute car and teddy bear.
On a different note, as hard as the past month and a half have been to wait, I am sure it is nothing to the wait during the next half- full month wait…
Myles Congrats on the showdown kid’s room.Dream Big, Dream Dream, Good Luck To All
Lucky Lady–of course disabled people can dream too!! It’s just that HGTV can’t make it absolutely perfect for everyone. For example if I won the house, I would see having to sell it when I’m elderly as it’s too big to take care of unless you have a lot of money for help, etc. Yes, you would just have to put in rails, or the other day I saw this motorized chair that fits on to railings for people who can’t do stairs. Forgot the catchy name for the device. I would also have to change the guest room just a tad for my 5 year old daughter. Just saying that anyone should be completely happy with how it is if they win, and just make changes quietly on their own, or take the money from selling
DID NOT mean to put down your dreams at all. It’s the don’t look a gift horse in the mouth thing, that’s all
Oh, I like your acceptance speech crazy DeniLou
Linda-there is no computer because there is no longer a sponser for one. So just bring the one you are on now
.
As far as the heater goes…the house has central air and heat, so there is heating in every room.
Good – -Morning? all I can’t sleep, its pouring here in Sonoma co, I posted a blog on the page that topped – what – 550+ I don’t know if everyone was able to take all that in. There are a couple of things I would like to reiterate. I see there are 2 posts for the day, this might be the wrong one as this ones topic is the kids room, but its the middle of the night and I’ll correct it in the real morning:)
Brendaloo – I’ve lost the sound on my computer too… Think it is a virus? I have to have my son check it out, I haven’t been able to hear what they’re saying for a while now, FRUSTRATING!
I really wanted to hear about the kids room, I have a daughter who minus a few nic-nacs and her hot pink and zebra striped bed spread is ready to move in. She wants that little car on the wall for her stuffed big papa bear to drive. We only have the tiniest little shower and she sits in 4 inches of water and thinks she’s taking a bath, Oh, how nice it would be for her to have her own tub with all her products and bath toys. Some one asked if Kim Myles would come back and help feminizing the room for a little girl.. If she addressed that in the interview I am sorry, I can’t HEAR IT!
Where are our party planners?
I do remember a couple of people throwing in there hat, giving us their history and some of their ideas… I have been doing some emailing to companies, food, port-a-potties, media, I am not a professional party planner, My hosted my daughters 4 year old blow out party, that is all I have under my belt in the last 20 years, but I SO want the SiS party to really happen. I asked you all to let me know if you wanted media coverage if none of us won, I think it is such a great personal interest story of how people come together and show support in this area, there are 3 different local TV shows that I think might be interested. We only have a few more days to enter and then – the waiting;( but while we wait we can still dream, but party’s don’t just happen, they need a lot of preparation. I’m hoping that one of the party planner professionals (PPP’s) maybe could start a site and get a real idea of how many people are going to be there, and feed us something new to dream of…I only have about an hour -tops, a couple days a week day, I can devote to this, so please jump in! we have recipes, cooks, Grill masters, pot luck dishes, maybe a location, but there’s a lot more that needs to be arranged. Calling all Sipper’s – Whats your talent? whats your idea/vision of what this will look like? I’ll look up one of my original blogs about the details I had thought of then,
MaryRebecca = We are on the same page, so many of your ideas I have commented on too… I offered to have an auction off the things we won’t be using at the SiS party after the wine has all been consumed and everyone brings cash;) and before we move in I think its a great idea to let others experience the dream and let out the home for a day, week end…., and ebay would be a great source for people who never blogged but were still into the home. PLEASE keep brain storming for more ideas, weather we win, or some one from the blog or anyone who really loves the home, I know that I would be more than willing to help the winner to be able to keep the home, I live in Somona Co and it is so beautiful, I would be so sad if the winner had to sell like so many off the other winners have had to do.
The small donations, lindalous recyclable green paper in the drawers, the cook book, this is all so cool that though no one’s won yet, this group is already thinking of ways to keep this dream alive for someone – be it themselves, or one of us, or whoever… I had never blogged before this site, and I see so many others have stated too. I don’t know what other blogs are like but I sure am glad I joined this group.
!
I’m going to post in the other current blog tomorrow about people joining in on the planning of the SiS party and I really want to know before I start alerting the media if that is something others want. Its late, check for typos tomorrow, The rains mak’in my bones ache, I’m crawling back in bed now to listen to the rain…I think its stopped right now oh, well, I’ll listed to the fire crackle and dream of soaking in that beautiful tub
Good night, good luck and God Bless
Lovelykitty what are doing up in the middle of the night? can’t sleep either?
Lovelykitty what are doing up in the middle of the night? can’t sleep either? I am really looking forward to meeting up this week end. Don’t know if you read my other posts but I wanted to know if your tour started at 2:30 or if that was when you were going to be at the plaza, It looks like others are planing on going this weekend, I sure hope I can get in, I’m gonna try for an earlier spot so I can check out the area for the party. Hope to see you this week end
If you ever look back at my blogs, you will see that I mostly post late at night/early morning. I have sleep issues
Hi everyone! I love reading your bloggs! I never noticed this site before cause I just keep looking at the house over and over again. If we were lucky enough to win we would defanitely move in! My husband is a Physical Therapist and we have been wanting to move to better climate. We live in Michigan now with our 3 boys! Our oldest boy is going into High School and the guest bedroom would be great for him and the two younger boys are in elementary school so the car room would be awesome for them! We also have a beagle dog who would fit great in the dog house! I could see us just paking up our clothes and a few other personal items and just move right in! Keep dreaming everyone!
JandVsMom–Sorry you don’t have sound too!! It really stinks. Yes, I think mine’s a virus. We have a lot of problems right now, and other functions are also disappearing. Can’t wait for our tax refund.
Hope you get a little nap in today, and I wish you luck on wining, as that would just be too cool for someone who already lives in Sonoma to win.
Wish I lived closer to attend this SISBP party. If I win, I CAN!!
winning, not wining
Hello,
Usually I’m not a fan of theme rooms, but Kim Myles showed a lot of restraint and didn’t overdo the ‘car’ theme, i.e. bedspreads, curtains, etc. etc. and although many of the entrants may not have a young son, the room could be easily modified by changing out the accessories and keeping that great shade of red.
Also, a few of you have wondered why the dream house doesn’t have a central vacuum system. I have one and never use it as it is burdensome to carry that big wand and hose from floor to floor and room to room. With our regular vacuum cleaner being so light weight, it doesn’t make sense to lug the central vac accessories. Also, I would assume they use more energy and hence not as environmentally friendly.
Gail the blogger, not Gail and the Gail
JandVs mom- When is everyone planning on having the party? I will contribute however I can. I have 5 6 ft long tables and 4 large white canopies. Would you need these? May be nice to have some shelter to put food under. I have thrown some parties before and I love it so, if you have a date in mind, please let us know soon so we have time to brainstorm and plan.
We are going to tour the DH this weekend as well and then take our son to Train Town. We are only and hour and a half drive fron Sonoma so this is no problem.
I have trouble sleeping as well, especially now. The anticipation is too much. I keep dreaming of the big day, not just thinking if we win but to watch the ambush for some other lucky family. This is the only sweepstakes we have ever entered and I am amazed how it’s evolved. I love reading the blogs, there are genuine connections being made and that is great to see. A positive bunch we have. Good for the soul!
No matter if we win or not, the excitement of dreaming about the possibilites of winning the home has sparked other hopes and goals for us as a family.
You are a local right? Could you recommend a yummy place for lunch in town for us this weekend?
Until next post…Keep DREAMING BIG no matter what!

Laurie – hmmmm, title of your filming of the DH, I love coming up with tiles and such, how about – The Desirous Dream Home – Living the Dream – Dreams Do Come True – What Dreams Are All About – The Possible Dream – Making Your Dreams Come True. Living the Life – Dream Home Living – Life Long Dreams.
I got carried away — sorry, maybe others have better tiles – it’s literally unlimited what you could name it — sounds like a lot of fun!
2Cherubs – about the rain dance – I think someone WISHED too hard – although, it may be me b/c think that was one of my wishes when I blew out some candles on my birthday…maybe I may be on the running for the DH…hmmmmm.
Hello Dream Team;
My kids and I are so greatful for this opportunity for having our dream house come true. I’ve been a divorced parent for the past 14 years and always have the desire and dream of providing a house of our own to my kids, a place that we can call “HOME”, “It’s finally here”!!! The home of our dreams is real!!! I’m so thankful to the dream team for having this vision and making our dream a reality. God Bless you all for been so caring and giving.

lifesgoodatgrandmas – Thank you for the sharing the positive statement.
I agree that Ms. Myles showed good restraint with her design – the room’s decor can grow with the child – I love it!
While tempering my hope, it is nice to keep things positive, and to continue dreaming.
It is difficult not to be hopeful, and nervous isn’t it?!
This home would mean so much.
Best wishes to all!
Where exactly do I get that great chrome detailing tape (in Cleveland OH)?
Kim, Not only your end product but your energy and enthusiasm keep me hooked to your shows. You have wonderful work chemistry with Anthony and I have enjoyed on one job in my carrer. Girl keep going and my hearts is full of happiness for you.
I hope one day I can have you to do my house. for now that is my dream. prem g
lifesgoodatgrandmas: Thank you for the warm and wonderful sentiments!
How about creating a DH09 bloggers’ book of quotations, poems, etc. (and maybe even some of those cute typos
? Perhaps the book could have one of Katherine’s titles along with pictures of the dream home…
JandVs mom, you’ve got my mind reeling now –How about music, a dream home theme song (any composers out there?) Soon we’re gonna need a CEO for all these projects! Any volunteers?
Love the “Kids Room”, Kim. Some girls are into cars!
Re your answer about the table under the tabletopper in the living room. No I would not withdraw my entry if it is a plywood frame. What kind of sarcastic answer is that? I was just asking what I thought was a reasonable question re the decor of the DH.
Hey Kim,
The walls and much of the car details would make a really cool grown up office/study…..this gal from the 60′s loves cars and I think I just may use some of your ideas in this kids room for my home office. Love the walls.
Chris the detailing tape was from Pep Boys..
I stand corrected. I was one of those Dream House dreamers wondering where the downstairs toilet was too! =)
Absolutely love the kids room. My four old grandson would love it as well. Great job. Love the use of the “border”. Can’t wait for March 15 so I can show Gavin his new room at MiMi’s house.
I just love your style! I watch you all the time.I was in a near fatal accident and in a coma ..you klnow the works! I lived though thats all that matters. I prayed really hard in the car that God would spare me that day so I could still have time with my kids and my husband.(wow where idid that come from) anyway..I had a bad head injurty so codnitive thinking has been hard but is coming backk.my point is ( for god sakes HA) that your style tips are great. they seem to be easy but then I cant do it! Please come to Ohio to help us!
I can only dream..and dream that one day..I could receive your help with a bathroom that is gutted. or a bedroom thats Im not sure what it is..HA! and a room a just close the door..and I also have a family room I have started and I dont know how to finish. Its in blues and browns..help!
thanks shelly
Happy Wednesdday,Blogger Friends!
Gee, I wonder if it will be Jack,Monica,Linda,Kim,or John who “ambushes” me in just three and a half weeks???
Lifeisgoodatgrandmas-Thanks for the lovely ppoem! I,too, believe in counting my blessings and thanking God for all He has given me!
It sometimes makes me feel greedy for wishing and praying for more(the HGTVDH09.)
But I will continue to Dream and encourage you to dream, too!
Happy Dreamin!
Lucky Lady
Lucky Lady ~ I hope it’s Monica Pederson that gives the “ambush” announcement. I feel as though I’ve known her forever b/c I watch her show all the time “Design To Sell”– it would be great to meet her in person!
JeanIsDreamin – I keep forgeting to respond to your post about the favorite feature of the Dream Home — Mine would be the facade of the home with that BEAUTIFUL Oak tree in the front — I’m a tree lover! Actually, a lot of my art is on trees – I’m currently working on painting the Dream Home with the Oak tree — Lovely!
I have been reading ALL these great comments for a month and a half now. Everyone is so entertaining!
I absolutely LOVE this room (and the entire house too)! But, this room made me Smile from ear to ear… My husband is a Police Officer, and the car Kim has on the wall would be fantastic for our only son to have in his room to remind him of his Dad!
We are counting down the days until we find out who wins! Good luck to everyone!
~Angie
Hi There everyone!
I’m sooooo excitd we’re allmost there Yeah!
I’ve been to the home, and its awsome, and definately a keeper. Lord Please let the winner keep it! All bedrooms have walk-in spacious closets, and there is no shower down stairs, guest bath only. My disabled son is 23 and loves RED, and cars.
I’m praying too I can give him the clean environment he needs to thrive, and a huge kitchen to cook his healthy meals in. He deserves it after all he’s gone through, major stroke, heart failure, and a heart transplant.
Life is precious and I thank God every day, that I can see my sons warm face.
with that said. “Lets win a home!” Take care all!!!
Hello everyone.Just one more day to day. Thanks a million Hgtv for sharing those videos and picture Its a wonderful feeling.Good luck all bloggers Keep dreaming for another day,. And congratulation to the winner.

What a ride… entering each day, better than going to D.L.
Thank you so much HGTV and the fabulous design team! This year’s home is so amazing. It is beyond perfect. Gail, you have been great and of course all the bloggers comments have been so much fun to read.

Everyone is so right about the designers of the rooms of this home. And that is exactly what it is a real home in a real home neighborhood. I feel that I continue repeating myself, but I mean every word of it, GOOD JOB!! When I was a little younger, probably in my 20′s, decorating was my passion. Now at 52 years of age your program, decorators, and designers of HGTV has given me a chance to feel younger again. Thanks for the newsletters, ideas, and tips of all kinds that you have provided in your shows of HGTV. Love you all, BIG DREAMER
Hi Kim.
I just wanted to saw not every parent has small children.
I Know allot of people that have teenagers just like i do i have a 13 year old son. and he says he wont be spending any time in the kids room. But he says thank you.Because his nieces & nephews can say there. But he still cant wait to move in. Se you soon Kim. Thank You

I love HGTV. I love to do it all. HGTV has help me in so many areas Of home living and gardening. With your help we drew our plans for and addition, paint from Sherwin Williams, appliances, and flooring ect. I have been entering long before I had a computer. In 2006 I belive I was the first to enter a postcard with the house, the doghouse with my Shitzu (Chewy) in front of the doghouse. I still have the postcard on my computer. I will keep entering to be a winner of one of your dream homes, because I love all of them.
What a wonderful experience this has been to be a part of such a wide range of personalites of people .A large group of so many people to get to know thru their thoughts and dreams of this home. It’s been a pleasure! I work with a large group of people in manufacturing industry, 12 hr. dys. and as much as I love them too, this has been very refreshing to have been a part of so many more. My neighborhood are cleaning up the tree limbs after the ice storm now and we are getting out in our yards again. As I wave to my neighbors Hello! How are ya!? I want to also wave to my fellow bloggers good luck! and to HGTV, Good work! Until we meet again. BIG DREAMER
Kim,
I love it, especially the diamond plate center border that divides the colors. I like the car and rims too. I have a son that is 13 and an artist, he saw the room and said “Awesome!”
Thanks, Mary for having Kim on she does some mind boggling creative unforgetables!
We are very excited about the possibility of winning the Sonoma Dream Home!
Our apartment in Soho, NY is on the market and we are eager for a change of pace. Winning the Dream Home would give us a fantastic reason to relocate.
Fingers are crossed!
