  1. Did everyone see the “super fan takes the tour” video? Somehow I missed it before. It’s a couple blogs down from this one.

  2. Hello comadres and compadres! Coop, good luck on your trip and hope you enjoy great weather! What a fun shopping trip, I’m so jealous, but so happy for you.

Samantha, just so you know, we are allowed to gift the winner of the Dream Home up to $12,000 without them having to pay tax on it. Any amount above that would be taxable.

Katydid, I took the tour today and all I can say is WOW! It surpassed all my and my sister’s expectations. The vacuum cleaner was not sitting in the kitchen but I was told that it is stored in the storage closet under the stairs, accessed via the study.

I took a picture of two vacuum cleaners in the upstairs guest bedroom walk-in closet that is smaller, but is most ample for visiting guests.

The alcove where the tub is located for the master bath is small and there is no artwork on the walls opposite the candles on the back wall. I will try my hand at posting pictures on Fotki tomorrow as I’ve been driving all day and am most exhausted.

The tour guide answered someone’s question about surprising the winner on the 15th and she said they will probably contact the winner a few days ahead of that – though that is hearsay, so I don’t know that it is set in stone; just a comment.

Also, in answer to all of those bloggers who critisized the curtains in the entryway – they actually have a purpose. As you all know the front door has very clear, non-private glass and so the curtains are used to close off the dining, living and family/kitchen area from the entry hall to allow some privacy in the evenings. So I for one would not remove them at all.

All I can say is whoever wins this perfect home is going to be a very, very happy and lucky person. It is all one could ask for in a home. I did not find the back yard small, but very ample. There is seating for 14. And with the 10′ ceilings it made all the rooms seem larger than they appear on the website. All the colors were much more crisp and yet easier on the eyes than on the website – beautiful work done by the design team at HGTV.

Well that’s all, time to hit the hay for some much needed sleep – I’ve been running on adreline from all the excitement and nervousness of getting to the Ledson hotel on time for the tour. Met Mr. Ledson, lovely man and I complemented him on the beautiful work his company did on building the dream home, as well as his work with the Harmony Foundation.

Well, can we take a breath now? No, the excitement continues until the big day! Good luck to all and keep the dream alive.

I usually do not post, but I read all of your wonderful comments daily. I really respect the community you all have created and wanted to wish everyone well on the big day!

  6. There are products now that make it easy to remove paint and restore the original luster of good wood, so I don’t think it’s a big deal if you do paint over good wood. It’s just temporary! It allows you to get more mileage out of it, save some money and save some trees! That white furniture in the dream home is painted and it’s probably pretty good wood underneath…

Lynn on March 3, 2009 at 10:22 am
  7. If winner of house, most practical thing in my world is to sell (even at substantial loss) and use the remaining money to purchase or build a home in an area where I would like to live and retire in (maybe) that is not over-the-top in design or furnishings but comfortable for my family. Still even with this amount of money, a person would need to remember to be careful because the economy is not going to change anytime soon.
Sell off the house turn-key would be so much easier for all concerned.
For anyone who is not a multi-millionaire, winning this house should give them some financial security if they use their head.
The vehicle would be a nice addition to anyone’s family and probably worth keeping because I don’t know how much resale value it would have.

  8. Hi Mary: Yes, GAIL is OUR Super Fan, and have to admit we miss her…I guess you are keeping her busy with her next most important post…the drawing of the incredibly fortunate winner of the DH2009!! WOW! Hard to believe someone has been picked..I feel no vibs..that worries me, but then I knew the odds were great!!

Dear Kate: What an inspiring interview you had with Mary!! I’m impressed with your patience and fortitude. GREAT REMODEL JOB!! You gave such great ideas, and I absolutley love your bottom line: “If you can read, you can do anything!!” I’ve been telling my children & grandchildren the same for years!! Anyway, it’s a wonderful motto!! I also love the vibrant fresh green color contrasted by the silky white colors…I felt as though I was walking right into the Dream Home Master Bedroom!! Not only are you “Dreaming Big”, you’re “Accomplishing Big!!” GREAT JOB!! Nothing bears a compliment more than imitation, and my dear, you have hit the nail on th head!!!

Okay Coop: Today is your big day! Have you rechecked your bags for anything forgotten? Did you pack your toothbrush? Did you tag ALL your bags? Did you put your tickets in a quick and easy place to access them? Have you remembered to pack a sleeping pill for the long flight? Go over your list one more time! We all want to wish you a safe, more than enjoyable trip & hope you find all the furnishings that you are looking for!! Don’t forget to take photos of everything, so you can share them with your lonely bloggers waiting for a good COOP FIX (ADJUSTMENT if you will)!! Sawatdi!!

  10. I think HGTV should award a prize to the blogger with the most typos…hands down…MARIE MILLER!!

Marie Miller on March 3, 2009 at 11:06 am
  11. Good Morning All,
WOW! Kate, you really did a nice job. Have you seen the Dream Home in person? I took the tour a couple of weeks ago with my new friend Brenda, who I meet from this blog. The color in person looked different than on the site, What color did you use on the walls?
I have a canopy bed that I change out the drapes when I change my comforter’s colors, My walls are knotty pine with a very rustic look that I actually like, so I don’t want to paint the walls but I need to add color (that doesn’t clash with the pine) Painting the furniture is a great option. Welcome to the blog and I hope you will continue to tell us about your “do it yourself” additions

JandVs mom on March 3, 2009 at 11:08 am
  12. Okay HGTV…give us a clue that you have picked the winner!! WE ARE ALL WAITING to hear from you today…we want a MARCH 3rd POST!! Will it be from our beloved Super Fan, GAIL!! Come on Gail, let us know how this process works…one more time!! Just one question, if you were present during the drawing, do you remember seeing a bright orange envelope…mysteriously from Brookings??

Marie Miller on March 3, 2009 at 11:12 am
  13. OH, I don’t know what time they actually figure out the winner today, It’s 8:20 am Pacific – But….
    GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
This has been such a rewarding experience for me. I have made new friends, I got to go to Sonoma for a “Mom’s day off”, toured the DH, I learned a lot of new recipes, posted my first blog here, interacted with a wonderful bunch of people, And win or lose the Home, I have gained so much from this whole event. again…..

  17. Hey everyone thank you so much for the kind words and well wishes for my Dad ,[definatley on the mend} Marie,Coop ,Janet, and to everybody that is helping a loved one that is sick sending prayers and good wishes your way. I think one things that got me so excited about this dream home is my Dad always talked about owning a vineyard in northern Ca. so I knew it would be easy to get them to come and visit , and my husband lives to garden …. so the dream is still alive , checked and rechecked to make sure my cell phone is charged , got dressed at 6 am. This blog had made this time of anticipation fun inspirational and interesting THANK YOU !As Coop said go out and “give ‘em hell” or “knock ‘em dead ” maybe not exact words but the jist is ,keep your chin up and make you own dreams come true.

jbonnevi on March 3, 2009 at 11:42 am
  18. Well, the day is finally here when the winner is picked. It sure would be great to have one more post regarding the mysterious “selection process” and answer all those nasty tax questions once and for all. For me, life would come full circle as when I was a young woman, I lived for a year in Sonoma in a great old Victorian house on a zinfindel vinyard. The home was once lived in by Jack London the author. It was very antique including a well pump on the big farm kitchen sink. We were a bunch of hippies living there as caretakers. I got to participate in that year’s harvest of the grapes. We even knew vinyard workers who lived in houses made from old wine barrels just like the one in “Bottle Shock”, a great movie by the way!
I would have to sell the house and buy something more modest instead. I love nearby Bodega Bay and thrive on ocean and bay views. We could get a smaller home there and spend our days whale watching. I would find something with a guest apartment for my adult disabled sons to live in so that they would never have to worry about adequate housing again and could be near us.
In the meantime, I would sure have some incredible parties in the Dream Home including great food and wine and musical entertainment. I would like to give some of the proceeds to a children’s charity, perhaps Ledson’s Harmony Foundation. So maybe they would accept the vehicle or equivalent cash and proceeds of the sale of most of the furnishings if the buyer didn’t want them included in the sale.
Please make my dreams come true, HGTV! If I’m not the winner, please select someone with just as big a heart and not a greedy one to share this opportunity with those less fortunate!

  20. Lovelykitty, I, too, had missed Gail’s DH tour video! In that video Gail tells you to go to Dream House Central and click on the video tab and there you will see videos of previous DH winners being ambushed and also visiting their new homes for the first time. This is the perfect time for these videos as we’re all dreaming and wondering what our own ambush will be like!

  21. Happy Tuesday, Bloggers and other California Dreamers. Hey Mary & Gail and a very special hello to my special girls (Lovelykitty, JandVsmom, Jenny D, Bonnie B and Ingrid). I can’t wait until we get together again, guys (on some very sunny California day). Today is “D” Day (D for Dream). Today is the day one very blessed family will have a new and fully furnished home in Sonoma to do anything they want with. In a couple of weeks, our anxiety will be relieved and we can start planning the SISBP — I am so excited.

Darling John, please don’t regret your entry, if you are awarded the 09DH, I promise to joyfully relieve you of the stress, worry, heartbreak and anxiety associated with winning this house. Just sign it over to me! Thank you.

You guys have spent so much time blogging together that you’re beginning to write alike (when I read Katydid’s post, I could have sworn it was Lovelykitty until I got to the end of her post). Kate Seaman, could you please do me a favor and come to California and do my house? It’s in much need of a design makeover. I know what I want, I just have absolutely no conception when it comes to putting it all together. Hmmmm….wait a minute, I know why – it’s because I want a NEW house! I want the 09DH!

Since today is Tax Tuesday Discussion day, I have a word about taxes. I’ve said it before, but Wendy said it best, “don’t think me mean but why would I donate to someone who just won a 2 million dollar prize?” I know that you guys are a bunch of kind hearted souls – but, hello……. REALITY CHECK!!!

Anyway, I’m still dreaming and I’m dreaming BIG! I’ll quote John Updike again: “Dreams come true; without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them.”

Good luck, sweet dreams and God’s blessing to each of us. And may whomever wins be able to realize this house for the blessing that it is.

Brenda on March 3, 2009 at 12:26 pm
  22. Good afternoon fellow dreamers! Well, the day is half over…still sitting here with great dreams & anticipation! Wonder if they had the drawing yet????? :) Hello, Hello Gail????? :) (Guess we have to give her time to take the flippers and goggles off and climb out of the tank of entries)
Well, back to singing ” Sonoma County, Vineyard mamma, Take me Home Country Roads”
Happy Dreaming All! Tamara in Alaska :)

  23. jandv’sMom: It has been a rewarding experience here on the blog, and just think, if one of us doesn’t win this Dream Home, we always have the DH2010 to look forward to. So, see….THE BEAT GOES ON!!

Tina: I understand what you are saying about the cell phone! I just had a call come in on my cell phone at 9:45 a.m. PST, and the caller was identified as “Private!!” Boy did that get my heart going!! I just knew it was HGTV!! NO! WHAT! NO! NO!! It was the doctor’s office just calling to confirm my appointment with them tomorrow!! Okay, HGTV, if you want to ambush me in the waiting room at Dr. Tyne’s Office in Crescent City tomorrow..they said it would be perfectly okay!!

Tamara: Yep! We have to look after one another, and when it came to Coop, I guess my maternal instincts just kicked in. I’m missing my grandchildren way too much don’t you think?

Jbonevi: Glad your dad is on the mend!! Please give him a great big hug from me & tell him “GOOD JOB!!!”

fogieyogi: Yes!!! I loved the movie, “Bottle Shcok!!” In fact, once I had seen it, I posted a blog to all to make sure they watched it, especially for all those bloggers that had never been to the “Wine Country!!” I, too, being a Sonoma County Brat, could really relate to it!! And, I also thrive on the ocean…that’s why I live on the ocean in Oregon!! I couldn’t afford to in California!!

GOOD LUCK AND HAPPINESS TO ALL..today marks a new beginning for one very LUCKY PERSON!

  28. JandV’sMom – That was my line a few blogs ago – about the experience of blogging with like-mind people and gaining friends, recipes, great quotes and many good laughs – of course, you said it better! And I just want to add that at the beginning, my energy was super high because I’ve found this blog and not that I have a good chance of winning – the odds are incredibly high and I’m never that lucky. My middle name is ‘dreamer’ and corresponding to people like me has been a blast of a lifetime! My greatest hope that the Winner is a blogger and that all the potential plans of the SISP will come true!

  29. collegemom- I am a full time mom, and a full time student. I get on here for about 5 minutes 3 times a day to catch up between classes on campus, or when my daughter is taking a nap, or when she is asleep for the night. Hence why most of my posts are from 8pm- 3 am.

It does not take long to make a post. What kind of job do you work for that makes it impossible to spend 3 minutes online during the day on a break?

  30. Brenda ~~~

As I see it, there are several perspectives to take in regards to donating money to the winner of the $2.2 mill home. Your’s is about looking out for yourself and not being so generous. The bigger perspective is to see that the winner will need help paying the taxes in order to keep their home. Those of us who will be sending money to the winner, don’t want them to have to fall in love with it,only to have to sell it. It will be a delight to send my $5. to help this winner. And I do hope it is someone who will love the home and the community with a generous heart!

  35. Somebody’s Watching Me – Rockwell

    I’m just an average gal
    With an average life
I work from nine to five
Oh yeah, I pay the price
All I dream is to be sippin’ wine
    In my new Dream Home
But why does it always feel
Like my dreams are not alone

    And (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    And I feel anxiety
    Whooooa-oh-oh
    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
Tell me, is it just a dream

When I come home at night
I hear a van speed by
People call me on the phone
    Aww, not them
    I’m annoyed
    So, is it me
    Or am I just paranoid

    When I’m in the shower
I’m afraid to wash my hair
‘Cause I might open my eyes
And find the HGTV crew standing there
    People say I’m crazy
    Just a little touched
But don’t you think this ‘ambush’
Is just little bit too much
    That’s why

    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    And I feel anxiety
    Whooooa, oh-oh
    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    Who’s playin’ tricks on me

    [Instrumental Interlude]

    (Who’s watching me)
    I don’t know anymore
    Are the neighbors watching me
    (Who’s watching)
Well, is the mailman watching me
    (Tell me, who’s watching)
And I don’t feel sane anymore
    Oh, what a mess
I wonder who’s watching me now
    (Who)
    The IRS

    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    And I feel anxiety
    Whooooa, oh-oh
    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
Tell me, is it just a dream

    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    And I feel anxiety
    Whooooa, oh-oh
    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    Who’s playin’ tricks on me
    (Who’s watching me)
    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    Oooooooh
    Whooooa-oh-oh
    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)

    So, who can it be????

When I come home at night
I hear a van speed by
People call me on the phone
    (Not HGTV)
    Now I’m annoyed
    So, is it me
    Or am I just paranoid

    When I’m in the shower
I’m afraid to wash my hair
‘Cause I might open my eyes
And find the HGTV crew standing there
    People say I’m crazy
    Just a little touched
But don’t you think this ‘ambush’
Is just little bit too much
    That’s why

    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    And I feel anxiety
    Whooooa, oh-oh
    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    Who’s playin’ tricks on me

    [Instrumental Interlude]

    (Who’s watching me)
    I don’t know anymore
Is the HGTV crew watching me
    (Who’s watching)
Or is it Superfan watching me
    (Tell me, who’s watching)
And I don’t feel sane anymore
    Oh, what a mess
I wonder who’s watching me now
    (Who)
    The IRS – NO!!!

    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    And I feel anxiety
    Whooooa, oh-oh
    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
Tell me, is it just a dream

    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    And I feel anxiety
    Whooooa, oh-oh
    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    Who’s playin’ tricks on me
    (Who’s watching me)
    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)
    Oooooooh
    Whooooa-oh-oh
    (Today I feel like)
    (Somebody’s watching me)

  46. Sara,
You explanation to Brenda was well said. I don’t see how any person who has been blogging here doesn’t understand what all the bloggers want to do for the winner. As I understand it, not one single DreamHome winner has ever been able to stay in their home and that is just sad and wrong. The dream simply turns into depressing problem when Uncle Sam comes knockin’. So Brenda, and I’m not trying to be mean either, the bloggers are simply trying to find a way to help the winner actually win the house. I for one, think it’s admirable! And if I win, remote as the chance is, there will be a great big, huge SISBP !! Good luck everyone and blog on….

  47. Today’s the day, fellow dreamers! Good luck to all!
I am finally feeling better – that flu was nasty. Thank you to all of you who sent me good well wishes. They helped.
Marie Miller: Thanks for the link to the website with the Mangosteen supplement. I have ordered a bottle. I think my Grandmother grew Mangosteens. She was a citrus farmer in Florida (where I grew up). she grew oranges, grapefruit, and tangeries for sale but she also had bannas, mangos, cumquates (sp.?), guavas, and something that looked like the picture of the Mangosteen – purple flesh and white inside? She used the skin on burns and insect bites like we use aloe vera. Also the white flesh was very cooling on burns. Anyway, I’m going to give it a try. Thank you.
4dewdrops: I LOVE the movie “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”! Makes me lol every time – and good music too.
DBCOOP: Have a wonderful time in Thailand. I really enjoyed traveling there back in the day.
Kate: Well done! I love your bedroom. You did such an amazing job. The master bedroom was my favorite room when I took the DH tour and you really did it justice! Thanks for sharing.
My best wishes to all and keep on dreamin’.

  49. As I said, not meant to offend, but see same people over and over and wonder what they do that affords them to be at a computer so long each day. I admit to checking out the site on my breaks while at work (which thankfully business is happy to allow employees to do as long as only during breaks or lunchtime).
I am a mother of several children who works in a job that requires me to check the internet constantly for updated information to supply my employer with (without saying what I exactly do); I love it!!!!

  50. Brenda…you had me laughing about donating to someone who has won a million + dollar home :D . I must say I agree with you.

Sara my dear, you have are so mistaken if you think Brenda is selfish. You can’t meet a sweeter more caring person.

But you have to understand, that the person who wins this house, will be at that time a millionair. If they can sell it, do you know how much they will have. But if they make the decision to stay, that is a great. But of course they must be able to afford to live and keep up with the cost of such a house.

On the Dream Home message board, some of the winners have posted their experianced to us. It has always been a win-win situation. We still talk often to the winner of DH 05. They are regular posters on the board. Folks here ask how I know about the past winners, it’s because they tell us on the message board.
But if you want to donat to the winner of a million dollar home that’s nice. But if some of us feel that that person has just been blessed, I am going to be happy for them.

Collegemom, I am retired, after working 30 years in the air as a flight attendant. I do volunteer work at a animal shelter, but love to come on here daily. I just love talking with my new cyber space family :) .
