Where Could It Be?
The next HGTV Dream Home, I mean. I was pondering this topic the other day. What if the big guys said I could choose, money being no object and convenience to the home owner of no concern? Game on! Here are some suggestions I’ve drummed up based on my own personal preferences (for some reason I am thinking about islands and lighthouses and great escapes these days). Feel free to chime in, debate me and pitch your own ideal Dream Home locations.
Isle Au Haut, ME
Imagine getting away from it all and living on an island smack dab in the middle of Maine’s Acadia National Park. You’d have to ride a mail boat to get on and off the island (could make grocery shopping a big hassle), but I have a feeling the sunsets alone would be worth the inconvenience.
Orient Point, NY
This old fishing village, complete with adorable clapboard cottages, is one of my favorite places along the East Coast. Located at the very end of Long Island’s North Fork, it’s the ideal spot to explore the area’s amazing wineries, organic farms and breathtaking coastal scenery. Need a day trip? You can hop aboard the Cross Sound Ferry and be in Connecticut in just over an hour.
Tangier Island, VA
This centuries-old village is steeped in Chesapeake Bay lore and tradition. Honestly? The prospect of eating fried crab balls on a weekly basis would be enough for me to pack up and relocate. The folks do have a distinct dialect, but you’d catch on once you’d been living there for a spell.
Could one of these locations be the site of our 2010 home? I’m not telling a soul.

You’ve never been to Washington state. Somewhere around the Seattle area would be wonderful. Lake Tahoe, CA would also be fabulous! Near Monterey CA or Pacific Grove would also be a great location!
Cheers,
Dionne
i see that sometimes you can click on a person’s name on this blog. sometimes i get nothing or a webpage or it just pops me up to the top of the page. then i lose my spot.
it’s a lot of work to find out where i was!! lol
where do the webpages come from?
I have seen dream homes on the east coast, west coast, south and north, but not in our beautiful southwest of Arizona or New Mexico. It would have a different style than that which has already been done. The gorgeous terrain and the fantastic sunsets make it a naturally desirable location. I don’t live there, but I would certainly move there if I had a dream home 2010 to go to.
I would choose Santa Fe as a perfect spot.
Next dream home 2010 should be in Naples Fla,because its beautiful, calm, and has a great beach
A couple of suggestions for the new DH 2010 location. I think the San Juan Islands in northwest Washington between Canada and Washington State would be a great place to build. Its only accessible by ferryboat or plane if you aren’t into having lots of traffic and crowds to deal with. http://www.visitsanjuans.com/
Also, Bainbridge Island is an upscale bedroom community near Seattle and also accessible by ferry from Seattle. The island is connected by a land route on the west side. Both locations have the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges as well as the views of Mt Rainier and all the beautiful scenery of the Pacific Northwest. http://www.seattletravel.com/bainbridge-island-seattle.html I posted the links for review if you care to check these two spots some more. Enjoy! Looking forward to the announcement of the next location wherever it may be. And to seeing what style is selected!
I think DH2010 would be really nice on a golf course. Arizona has beautiful golf courses. New Mexico would also be a great place for a DH. San Antonio Texas also is a
great idea.
I have been enjoying everyones comments and DREAMS. I think we all should win our dream house…Do we know any secret millionaires that would like to give us all a dream, lol..Well, we will just keep talking and wishing , after all wishes and dreams do come true some times..I think everyone is great on here, and love seeing the different kinds of homes we are dream about..Good luck to everyone.
A whimsical cottage, in the woods overlooking the lake or ocean
In addition, my dream house is placed in the center of nature. Large windows overlooking the statly trees and array of hundreds of flowers in all colors of the rainbow. Meandering pathways take you to the secrets of all the gardens have to offer. Seating placed in sections for your enjoyment. Inside captures the romantic charm of plaids, prints, and flowering patters of the colors of the sunsets. Comfy couches, chairs and ottomans, with the invitation of relaxation and tranquility. Golds, and beiges on the walls capture the sun and each wall is a masterpiece of its own. Lighting and dark woods, to replicate the simplicity that each room has to offer. Four bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, wood paneling office, with a large desk coverd in a leather top. Windows, windows, and more windows to let in the sunlight, last but not least, a porch swing, wicker chairs and tables enhancing the porch which calls you outside to enjoy the the beauty of the greatest of its surroundings. The house has three stories, the third is the hide-away which looks out over all the land as far as the eye can see. All this is surrounded by the majestic mountain range, which changes as the seasons do…this house stands alone, for nothing should get in the way of all its beauty, making it available for everyone to feast their eyes on such simple gradeur. Location is near the border line of Georgia and Florida, where you get the best of all worlds
DBCOOP…Now the secrect of the South is out. I have vacationed a lot of places in the last 30 yrs, and when I started searching for retirement states I came across Georgia visited it from top to bottom, and when I entered Thomasville especially what they call OLD TOWN, I felt like I had stepped into another time, a more peaceful, gentile era. Your right about the fragrance it just surrounds your entire being, close your eyes and its not the hustle and bustle of the 21st century…Of course the secret has been out for maybe 5-8 yrs now, as many northerners are moving south for retirement. Maybe HGTV will build a retirement dream home or homes in the future. We can always continue to dream, and dreams are a part of life!!!!! They keep us going.
sorry about the typos in the previous comments. Didn’t have the ole glasses on, lol
We think it will be Tahiti.OR Captiva Island Florida.
East of DH2009 leaves alot of open space…I personally like the Black Hills of South Dakota, The upper penninsula of Michigan, and the upper lower penninsula of MI, The southeastern part of Ohio is nice, and the northern area of Arkansas isn’t bad either. NY is a wonderful state, but the taxes will kill you if you aren’t rich already.
2010 Dream House should be in Virginia. More southern than northern Virginia. Somewhere all four seasons can be enjoyed but not overwhelmed by any one season. Jackie
i think that they are all wonderful suggestions and any one of those locations would be absolutely amazing as long i can get the house lol.
i would like to see this dream home in poway ca
Hi my name is kerry I currently reside in the awesome city of chicago and I think that you should build a dream home right here in the state of IL there are a lot of great attractions and wonderful views here in this big city so I was just wondering would you consider this idea to build here it would be a great investment for you if you decided to do that.
WOULDN'T IT BE NICE TO TRY DOING THE DREAM HOME PROCESS DIFFERENTLY….
PERHAPS INSTEAD OF AN EXTRAVAGANT MANSION – which have thus far been remote as well, and also isolating for many – AN ENTIRE CITY-BLOCK CAN BE HOUSED!!!
SOME PEOPLE WOULD BE SATISFIED FOR SIMPLY JUST A HOME!!! and so many people DREAM to see their parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, children HAVE A HOME OF THEIR OWN!!!
for the cost of building ONE unnecessarily large & decadent house, HGTV should break the mold and try building a community…take it green & make it sustainable…include modulars & community gardens….
This page seems to get a large ammount of visitors. How do you get traffic to it? It gives a nice unique twist on things. I guess having something useful or substantial to talk about is the most important factor.
