Friday’s Hint: HGTV Dream Home 2010 Location

Will Dream Home 2010 be located in the country? Photo by respres.

Today, I am sending you on a scavenger hunt of sorts. See if you can find some numbers and put them together to form a clue. Then tell me what you think it means.

Search in the first paragraph of the HGTV Green Home 2009 Living Room article.

Search in the third paragraph of the HGTV Green Home 2009 Sitting Room article.

1. YAY! Another clue! Let me put my private investigator hat back on…

In the meantime, I had posted on the ‘Second Clue’ blog yesterday right before dinner. It was “awaiting moderation”…ugh! I’ll try to post it again here…we’ll see what happens…I originally posted yesterday, May 7th at 6:08pm…here it goes…

WOW! You guys have been really busy. At first I thought…oh, yes, Coop is right..must be New Mexico. Then I read others and Annie and Cathy had me convinced that Taxachussetts must be correct…by the way, Ed in Oregon, that was priceless!! Marie…the whole Ivory thing made me shake my head in agreement that it must be Utah. Boy, am I confused! So, I had to start my googling…my husband is soooo wondering what I am doing with my time…hahaha…little does he know I’m becoming a private investigator…ssshhh!
Anyway…how about…drumroll please…

Charleston, South Carolina?

Some facts I am pondering…at least until I read another suggestion;)))

* Teepee – Cusabo Indians inhabited the region when European colonists arrived in the 1670s…a little weak I know but there must have been teepees?!?!

* Orange – Charleston was considered such a prosperous growing area that during colonial times, parts of downtown were planted in fruit orchards and rice fields, and although long replaced by houses and gardens, their legacy remains in downtown Orange Street, where a lush citrus grove once stood.

* Ivory – Hampton Park, in the northwestern section of the city, is Charleston’s largest, and encourages the eyes and feet to roam its acres of colorful trees and flowers. Initially a horse racing track in the 1790’s, the park was an outdoor pen for Union prisoners during the Civil War and, in 1901, home to a World’s Fair with an elaborate group of temporary white palaces known as “The Ivory City”.

*Ravioli – Love this part!!!!!! There’s a pasta maker in Charleston who has created over 250 different types of ravioli! I so want to meet him….here’s link for you to view… http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:SdBvRV-z4LwJ:www.postandcourier.com/news/2008/feb/27/pastamaker_mixes_up31884/+%22charleston%22,+%22ravioli%22&cd=22&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

* Cypress – In the Charleston area, one of your best bets is the Cypress Gardens if you are looking to explore some swamps while vacationing.

* Mountain – The background of the license plate consists of a border of blue mountains.

* Sea – Coastline: 187 miles of coastline.

* Indian Grass was designated as the official State Grass. It is a native, perennial, warm-season grass that grows 3 to 5 feet tall. (Not sure why I added this one?!?!)

And,finally,”From the Mountains to the Sea” was designated as the official State Tapestry. The Tapestry was made from 100% cotton and represents all areas of the State. As a side note: The Tapestry is displayed at the South Carolina Cotton Museum in Bishopville, South Carolina…which I think is where the Pearl Fryar Topiary Gardens are located!

Alright…so these are just thoughts…ugh…we need another clue…okay, okay, patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue!
Well, I better go make dinner;)) BTW…here is a great easy recipe for all of the investigators out there because it takes very little time to prepare and since I googled for the past couple of hours…umm…I think this will work for tonight…http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/rachael-ray/seafood-pasta-with-sherry-tomato-cream-sauce-recipe/index.html.

Living the Dream!

P.S. I used shrimp in lieu of lobster. Bon Appetit!

2. My guess at this point would be the year 1627, in reference to the first permanent English settlement in New England, which was Plymouth Colony (Plymouth, MA)

The following link details this historic village, ‘Plimoth Plantation’:

http://www.plimoth.org/features/village.php

DBCoop on May 8, 2009 at 12:13 pm
3. I thought the # was 1607 (sub-zero). Remember ing from my history classes, this was the year Jamestown was founded, so that would be VR. Also, maybe it is a phone #. 1 (for long distance)- 607 (the state of New York). These two guesses and DBCoop’s put it all on the east coast. I am happy with that I guess. I just want it to be close to some water, any water!

4. DBCoop, I believe you’ve hit the mark, now we need to match the words from the Scrabble board with this one ;D

6. Good Job Coop. My only problem is that the “6″ is in the fourth paragraph rather than the third paragraph. There is a “2″ in the thrird paragraph. Could Mary have made a mistake? I thought editors were the ones who corrected mistakes! :)

8. when I tried putting in “1227″ you get the site ” you’ve been RickRolled” could this be associated with New York?

sagg99/sheilagg1 on May 8, 2009 at 1:43 pm
9. I could not find the 6 either.

However on 12-2-1742 The PENNSYLVANIA Journal first appears in print in the United States.

Also, a major train hub in NYC is called PENNSYLVATIA Station (34th Street).

12. If it is in Massachussetts, all one has to do is search the state records for a limited incorporation established in the past year by HGTV. Since HGTV usually establishes a limited corporation for the dream home, with the home being the sole assett of the corporation. The limited corporation might even have the location & description of the assett!!

14. Hi everyone,

So… I found 16247. Guess what pops up when I punch those numbers in? Italy! Really.

Ravioli ?, oranges ?, oats ?, mountain ?, water ?, modern ?, sun ?, bikes ?!

Ivory is tricky, unless we are talking ivory sand. Tee pee is trickier still, except for that old that Spanish explorer, Don Juan De Onate making comments (long ago) comparing skillfully built Tee pees with “any house in Italy.” Hmm.

Did somebody say that Jack gave a clue about the 2010 Dream Home being east of the 2009 Green Home? East across the Atlantic Ocean? And… if that’s not enough… I’ve noticed House Hunters doing quite a bit of hunting in Italy lately :)

Well, a girl can dream, can’t she?

Colleen on May 8, 2009 at 2:27 pm
15. Oops! Let me try that again.

Ravioli check. Oranges check. Oats check, etc. My checks disappeared and became questions marks. Sorry!

This is part of my Second Clue blog:
Teepee – National Museum of American Indian in Manhattan.
Ravioli – Little Italy in Manhattan
Orange – County near NYC.
Surf and Fishing- the state has several beaches and marinas, even in the City.
Mountains – Adirondack, Appalachian, etc. and many bike trails.
However, ivory and oats???

Do you know of an ivory and oats connection to NY?

18. Ed: six sufaces is in third paragraph…see 2nd clue…Annie and I both believe it is Massachusetts so I think Coop is right about 1627.

Cathy Lemar on May 8, 2009 at 3:09 pm
19. http://www.massvacation.com/southBoston/

“Where else can you visit a living-history museum that recreates life in 1627, go on a whale-watching cruise and take tea in an authentic Japanese garden? It has to be the region South of Boston, where Massachusetts is alive with history, beaches and quirky little surprises.

In Plymouth, “America’s Hometown,” you’ll get a glimpse of Plymouth Rock — and of the Pilgrim way of life at Plimoth Plantation. For a more contemporary adventure, set out for a whale-watching expedition from Plymouth Harbor.

Duxbury is home to fabulous beaches, and to the Art Complex Museum, where you’ll find an eclectic mix of Asian and American art, Shaker furniture and a Japanese tea garden.

Venture further south to New Bedford, and experience coastal life via the New Bedford Whaling Museum. Not far away is Seaman’s Bethel, a chapel for seafaring families and one of the features that inspired Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. Learn more about the Massachusetts Environmental Trust.”

20. Is the 2010 home in the USA or what? Italy threw me off yesterday. Where are there condos on the beach??? A friend of mine said the 1st 2 photos are of different places…Fla. the Mendocino. Hmm…I’ve never been to Mass. so I don’t have any ideas but all of you are doing so well!

Lisa Harper on May 8, 2009 at 3:43 pm
21. DBCoop,

I agree with you. 1627 is my number.

Cathy Lemar,

Looks like you and Annie may be right.

22. The photo on this Friday clue was taken by a photohgrapher named Jeff Turner. The photo was taken on Wickwire Rd., Grafton, West VA.

Mr. Turner is the President and Founder of Real Estate Shows in Santa Clara, CA.

The first photo page (first clue) was taken in Malibu. But the clues seem to lead to the New England coast…..

Cathy Lemar on May 8, 2009 at 4:28 pm
23. MARY’s third clue says: “Search in the paragraph on the third page of the HGTV Dream Home 2009 Kitchen photo gallery.”

Page three of the Kitchen photo gallery:
“Two Sub-Zero refrigerators accommodate both the weekly needs of the family and weekend crowds. Four shelves of space above each refrigerator conceal those large and not-so-often-used appliances and serving trays.”

http://www.hgtv.com/dream-home/kitchen-from-hgtv-dream-home-2009/pictures/page-3.html

I suppose you can take your pick: the number “Two”, the “Zero” from Sub-Zero, or the “Four”, to make up the third number in the sequence.
IF the others are correct(1, 6 and last number 7), you have either 1627, 1607, or 1647. The year 1627 would seem to direct us to Plymouth, Massachusetts; 1607 was the year in which Jamestown, Virginia was founded, and 1647, well, that remains murky and of questionable significance.

There are a number of possibilities around Jamestown, Virginia, a few of which I’d mentioned in previous threads (4/27/09), such as the ‘Shores of York’ http://www.shoresofyork.com/homesite.htm located near Williamsburg, and ‘The Keswick Estate’ near Charlottesville. Either one’s fine! http://www.keswickestate.com/index.htm

Or, in the Plymouth, Massachusetts area, maybe it’s in and about Sandpiper Shores:
http://www.lakehomesusa.com/waterfront/massachusetts/plymouth-brockton-scituate-hingham-cedar-crest-marshfield-hills-north-lakeville-bridgewater/mlsCCIAORMA-20903214

In that case, might we be looking at a home like: http://www.vbuiltcustomhomes.com/

At this point, I’m feeling like the lyrics from the Tommy Roe song: “Dizzy, I’m so dizzy my head head is spinning, like a whirlpool it never ends…” and it’s our Senior Editor MARY who’s makin’ it spin!

DBCoop on May 8, 2009 at 4:42 pm
24. Arrrrrghh! My last comment is “awaiting moderation” and may remain in suspended animation indefinitely, never to surface again.

Will it be 1627, for Plymouth, MA, or 1607 for Jamestown, VA?

DBCoop on May 8, 2009 at 4:46 pm
25. In the paragraph that begins with “Two sub-zero…” the second sentance is “Four shelves of space above each refrigerator conceal those large and not-so-often-used appliances and serving trays.” couldn’t the number be 1647?

Tami on May 8, 2009 at 4:55 pm
26. the third clue has the numbers Two, Zero, and Four… which number should we use?

sagg99/sheilagg1 on May 8, 2009 at 5:00 pm
27. Given the clues in the photos from the Green Home, I still think Massachusetts.

Cathy Lemar on May 8, 2009 at 5:05 pm
28. The numbers I have are:

1 6 2 4 7

Maybe this is a mixed up / scrambled zip code?

So far, I’ve found Buffalo, NY, Raleigh, NC and Greensboro, NC from those numbers. I think I’m done unscrambling, though. :)

Buffalo fits in with teepee.

29. There are two LLCs in Massachusetts by the name of Dream Home Realty and Dream Home Properties……hmmmmm

Cathy Lemar on May 8, 2009 at 5:19 pm
30. I have to say around Plymouth, Ma. There is a Teepee outside of the visitors center next too the Mayflower Two, just up from the Plymouth rock. Wampanoag People

31. Cathy Lemar,

Where’s the LLC for the Dream Home Properties located? You’re a super sleuth!

Lessie on May 8, 2009 at 5:52 pm
32. I also forgot to mention that the photo about whether or not the Dream Home will be in the country or not…those are eastern or southern trees, not one found on the west coast. BUT last year's home was in Fla., so would they repeat locations? I doubt it.

Lisa Harper on May 8, 2009 at 6:07 pm
33. When do you think the corporation would have been set up? The two I am looking at may have been set up too early for this house. It doesn’t say where the property is, just that the LLC’s office is in Massachusetts…. I will have to recheck the cities, but neither one of them was Plymouth…but that means nothing.

Cathy Lemar on May 8, 2009 at 6:11 pm
34. Cathy what was the date when those LLCs were established. The newer dates, i.e. 2008 or 2009, would be the most likely.

Ed in Oregon on May 8, 2009 at 6:17 pm
35. Dream Home Properties office in Dorchester, MA established 2005 with an involuntary end date of 2009 and Dream Home Realty is in Mashpee, MA. was established in 2004 with no end date. Sounds like they were established too early. Would they be LLCs?

NOW WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??
Search in the first paragraph of the HGTV Green Home 2009 Living Room article.
Interior designer Linda Woodrum created a quiet, contemporary and inviting living room for HGTV Green Home 2009. “This was more about a quiet feast for the eyes,” she adds. “One side of the room is very bold and crazy and the other is quiet and textural and focuses on shapes. If everything has color you stop noticing.”

Search in the third paragraph of the HGTV Green Home 2009 Sitting Room article.
Then, to make an eco-friendly statement in the room Woodrum refers to as “a little bit of a tropical forest,” she added a coffee table that in a former life served as a lettuce crate. “The top lifts off, the crate collapses and can be removed easily from the room so the sleeper sofa can be opened,” she adds. A bowl of pears set in a wire basket, a mother-of-pearl box and a Cymbidium orchid create an interesting tabletop arrangement. Two side tables, once foot-long hot dog carts topped with baking trays for hot dog buns, display an interesting mix of organic elements: turned wood lamps, cork candle holders, a carved wood bowl filled with snake plant and moss, and wooden frames.

Organizing Made Easy
Two Sub-Zero refrigerators accommodate both the weekly needs of the family and weekend crowds. Four shelves of space above each refrigerator conceal those large and not-so-often-used appliances and serving trays. Cabinets next to the stove include narrow linen drawers and deeper pull-out trays to stow away frequently used dry goods, utensils and spices.

Learn More About Our Platinum LEED Certification.
There are seven basic sustainability areas LEED covers that are being targeted: innovation and design, location and linkages, sustainable site, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, awareness and education.
The following eco-friendly features were the largest contributing factors in the decision to award the 2009 HGTV Green Home its Platinum LEED Certification.
1. Solar energy panels
2. ICF Walls/spray foam/sealed envelope
3. Solar hot water
4. Low E windows
5. Metal roof
6. High-efficiency air conditioning
Indoor air quality, the A/C filtration, energy recovery ventilators and contaminant control (i.e. detached garage) were also contributing factors, as was the landscaping that incorporated drought-tolerant plants and high-efficiency irrigation.

37. Where did my post go? It was long. It said awaiting moderation and then poof! :(

bluejean on May 8, 2009 at 8:10 pm
38. Don’t feel like you’re the only one, bluejean. I also had a long post, with several web links, that went into blog “deep freeze.” Hard to know whether length is the trigger, or???

From the third clue, excluding the “zero” from the name Sub-Zero, the remaining five digits of 16247 could even indicate a zip code, but not necessarily in that order, as many “21…” and “24…” zip codes are in Maryland and Virginia. I’m less inclined to think it a zip code encryption, but WHO KNOWS?!

And taken from my previous post, which is now “awaiting moderation”: at this point, I’m feeling like the lyrics from the Tommy Roe song: “Dizzy, I’m so dizzy my head is spinning, like a whirlpool it never ends…” and it’s our Senior Editor MARY who’s makin’ it spin!

http://www.lakehomesusa.com/waterfront/massachusetts/plymouth-brockton-scituate-hingham-cedar-crest-marshfield-hills-north-lakeville-bridgewater/mlsCCIAORMA-20903214

Or 1-6-0-7 maybe? That would send us to the area of Virginia around Jamestown:
http://www.keswickestate.com/index.htm OR http://www.shoresofyork.com/homesite.htm

What if we take the “zero” from Sub-Zero (clue number 3), add the 1, 6, and 7; shake ‘em all up, toss ‘em out, and end up with 1706—the year in which the City of Albuquerque, New Mexico was founded?!

43. That “awaiting moderation” (a.m.) tag is haunting me again. Must be too many web links—I eliminated them ALL this time. So, once again….

Is 1-6-2-7 the magic number? If so, should we be looking in and about Sandpiper Shores of Plymouth, Massachusetts?

Or 1-6-0-7 maybe? That would send us to the area of Virginia around Jamestown: such as ‘The Keswick Estate’ OR ‘Shores of York’.

What if we take the “zero” from Sub-Zero (clue number 3), add the 1, 6, and 7; shake ‘em all up, toss ‘em out, and end up with 1706—the year in which the City of Albuquerque, New Mexico was founded?!

50. In regards to Marie Miller’s notable absence from these hallowed pages recently, I say it’s time to seek out our resident Southern Belle’s words of wisdom. She can hide behind the curtains that shield her from the clamouring crowd of answer-seekers no longer. And during that perilous journey of discovery, we’ll sing a little song to help us find our courage, all the while trying desperately to follow MARY’s hints on the rough and bumpy road to the next Dream Home:

“We’re off to see a Wizard, the sensible Wizard of Blogs
We’ll find she is a Whiz of a Wiz if ever a Wiz there was
If ever, oh ever, a Wiz there was the Wizard of Blogs is one because
Because, because, because, because, because
Because of the magical things she does
We’re off the see the wizard, the smartest Wizard of Blogs.”

Oh Marie Miller, will you please click your heels together three times and help us get our act together. Just repeat after MARY: “I want to find the Dream Home, I want to find the Dream Home, I want to…”

As for your fellow blogger, DBCoop here, I must admit that;
“I could while away the hours, conferrin’ with the flowers
Consultin’ with the crew.
And my head I’d be a scratchin’
while my thoughts were busy hatchin’
If I only had a clue.”

So c’mon bloggers, one and all, let’s dust off the brain cells, clear the cobwebs, put our hearts into it, and show ‘em what we’re made of….”nulla tenaci invia est via.”
