Friday’s Hint: HGTV Dream Home 2010 Location

Will Dream Home 2010 be located in the country? Photo by respres.

Today, I am sending you on a scavenger hunt of sorts. See if you can find some numbers and put them together to form a clue. Then tell me what you think it means.

Search in the first paragraph of the HGTV Green Home 2009 Living Room article.

Search in the third paragraph of the HGTV Green Home 2009 Sitting Room article.

Search in the paragraph on the third page of the HGTV Dream Home 2009 Kitchen photo gallery.

Search in the second paragraph of the HGTV Green Home 2009: What Makes it Green? article.

  1. HGTV…please don’t include my last name or email address on this! Thanks.

  2. The pic on this page was definately taken in W. VA by a photographer named Jeff Turner. The photo was taken on Wickwire Rd., Grafton, West VA.

Cathy Lemar on May 9, 2009 at 4:04 pm
  3. So…is it North Carolina or West Va.? I grew up in the south & would LOVE to move back (my sister, too). We have close relatives in Va. so that’s be great! Dream on, Lisa…

Lisa Harper on May 9, 2009 at 4:32 pm
  4. I was just thinking…West VA. is NOT on the coast, but North & South Carolina are.

Lisa Harper on May 9, 2009 at 5:48 pm
  5. Wait, though, Fla DOESN’T have any mountains, does it? So maybe it’s not Fla. I re-read some of the ideas posted & now I’m thinking Malibu, CA, but I don’t know. We need more Hints!

Lisa Harper on May 9, 2009 at 9:14 pm
  6. 1607,1627,1647,160247……all could be just the house number of DH2010 too! They are pretty tricky…..;)

  7. Coop:

    “There’s no place like home!”
    “There’s no place like home!”
    “There’s no place like home!”

Somewhere far ‘from the West’, over the rainbow, way up high, There’s a ‘dream home’ that I heard of once in a lullaby. Somewhere over the rainbow ‘near the coast’, skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true. Someday in ‘HGTV land’ I’ll wish upon a star and wake up maybe in ‘New England’ where the clouds are far behind me. Where troubles melt ‘when I win’ like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that’s where you’ll find me. Somewhere in a ‘little fishing village’, over the rainbow, bluebirds fly. Birds fly over the rainbow, Why then – oh, why can’t I? :)

After carefully examining the clues, I have to say, good-bye desert, hello fishing village!!!!!! :)

The numbers I came up with are 12247…which is the area code for Albany, New York!! Albany is the capital of the state of New York, and was built on the site of the Dutch Fort Orange and its surrounding community of Beverwyck! Beverwyck was a fur-trading community north of Fort Orange on the Hudson River in New Netherland that was to become Albany, New York, when the English took control of the colony in 1664.

Marie Miller on May 10, 2009 at 12:13 pm
  8. ooooooooooops….did I say area code for Albany, New York? I meant zip code!! “Zippity-Doo-Dah” :)

Marie Miller on May 10, 2009 at 12:18 pm
  9. I don’t know I just got the numbers 2627

Betty on May 10, 2009 at 12:35 pm
  10. Wow, that sounds pretty right! I would love to live in Albany, but there is one thing that I really want, WATER! Are there a lot of lakes or anything there because isn’t it pretty far inland? I will have to check on how you got those #s though, because I never got two number 2′s and I was pretty sure there was a 6 in there. I hope that your right! I bet you are still dreaming of having it farther south though, right?

JessiRose on May 10, 2009 at 12:41 pm
  11. Hi JessiRose: Yep! I dreamed of it being by the ocean, but Albany has four lakes that exist within city limits, including Buckingham Lake, Rensselaer Lake, Tivoli Lake, and Washington Park Lake.

The way I came up with my numbers is as follows:

First paragraph of the HGTV Green Home 2009 Living Room article….’ONE’ side of the room is very bold and crazy…1!

Third paragraph of the HGTV Green Home 2009 Sitting Room article…’Two’ side tables…2!

Third page of the HGTV Dream Home 2009 Kitchen photo gallery…’Two’ Sub-Zero refrigerators…2! And, ‘four’ shelves of space above each refrigerator….4!

Second paragraph of the HGTV Green Home 2009: What Makes it Green..There are seven basic sustainability areas LEED covers that are being targeted….7!

There you go….12247…the zip code for Albany, New York!! :)

Marie Miller on May 10, 2009 at 2:16 pm
  12. I missed out on the last clue…but here is what I think.
    Orange-California
    Teepee-New Mexico, Arizona
    Ravioli-Tuscan Style Villa

  14. I think it’s in Belton, SC

Marie Miller on May 10, 2009 at 4:21 pm
  16. I have not read any of the other posts for this clue, but I am sure that those numbers are for a zip code. The numbers I found were 16207, but not necessarily in that order.
    Bedford, TX 76021
    Denton, TX 76201
    St. Mary’s, WV 26170
    Burlington, WV 26710
    Long Eddy, NY 12760
    Feura Bush, NY 12067
    Templeville, MD 21670
    Williamstown, MA 01267
    Prospect, CT 06712
    Lancaster, PA 17602
    Connoquenessing, PA 16027
    Springfield, IL 62701

I know there are more possible zip code combinations in other, less desirable states, but I chose not to do the research. This was a lot of homework to find these cities! I have not even had the chance to look at the map to locate where each city is. But I will be back!

    W. on May 10, 2009 at 5:10 pm
  17. The state shell of Massachusetts is the Conch shell, MA has the 2nd oldest shell organization in the country. Sandhill cranes and ivory gulls have both been sighted in MA. Lobster ravioli – Ma. Someone said there is a teepee outside of Plymouth – the number clue some of us got was 1627 (Plymouth was founded). Some of the fishing draggers masts are orange with white tips. Lots of oak trees in MA. There is a city Orange in W. MA which is country-like. An author from Massachusetts who wrote the Twelve Foot Teepee described her childhood living among the oak trees.

The first pic was taken in Malibu and the second was taken in W. Virginia…..maybe the place is near the ocean but in a country-like area. Sounds New Englandy to me :)

My stepsister asked today if I checked the longitude latitude using the number hints….LOL Can’t wait for more clues.

    Any other Maine(iac)s on here?

Cathy Lemar on May 10, 2009 at 5:21 pm
  18. BTW – Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers and those with mothering spirits!

Cathy Lemar on May 10, 2009 at 5:22 pm
  19. I forgot to add one city to my list above….Natick, MA 01760

Based upon my zip codes, listed 3 posts ago: I like Denton, TX; Bedford, TX; Long Eddy, NY; Feura Bush, NY; Prospect, CT; Templeville, MD; or Natick, MA.

    W. on May 10, 2009 at 6:22 pm
  20. I have been enjoying the comments to the clues.

I’m glad I didn’t post my clues. I thought they were letters in the alphabet. Then, I realized…NAAAWWWWW, couldn’t be those are notes in music. I found an online keyboard (didn’t realize that was there until today) and plunked out the notes. Nope, it is not a tune I recognize. LOL :D It still could be that Ivory is dealing with the Piano. Or, Ivory could mean the color WHITE.

DBCoop, I have no idea who you are. Your wit has had me in stitches several times today. Thank you.

If it IS the northeast coast, that would be AWESOME!

Trish on May 10, 2009 at 7:50 pm
  21. Louisville, KY has the zip 40261.
    It is in Orange County.
Kentucky Derby fits in with the horse picture in the dining room.
Bennie IVORY is the executive editor and vice pre sident for the news at the Courier.
Many pasta restaurants in this community.
It also has a gov. bike friendly plan.
This just may be getting us somewhere. :)

As I reread the caption under the picture of a coastline, there was a QUESTION if it would be on a coast this year. Hmmmmmm????

Trish on May 10, 2009 at 8:18 pm
  22. I will be glad when the homesite is revealed, while this is fun-it still leaves so many ideas for people to come up with depending on how one’s mind works.
Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers, those that have lost children, those that have lost mothers, those who wait to have children, and those who are expecting children soon.

  23. Coop and Marie Miller: You guys are too much! Loved your lyrics to that classic movie. I was singing along.. Keep it up!.
Now, thanks to all you bloggers who did the hard work of finding the clues. I’m no good at numbers, but something caught my eye, and that was “oats”. I immediately thought of Quaker Oats,
so doing a little research, I found out that both Plymouth, Mass and Jamestown, VA have connections to the Quakers. If anyone wants to follow up on this idea, great. But let me add, I respect the “Friends” very much.
I have more ideas…..later…. and thanks HGTV.

  24. Mary’s clue says: Search in the THIRD paragraph of the HGTV Green Home 2009 Sitting Room article. Wouldn’t that be as follows?— “With the same color on all SIX surfaces the room feels cozy and safe,” adds Woodrum. The second number would then be 6 rather than 2; or what am I missing, Marie? I’m always open to being wrong, since it certainly wouldn’t be the first time! I don’t know about method, but you’re right, there is that element of frustration bordering on madness—it takes real talent to keep on going forward when Mary leads us down the garden path!

The third clue is the killer, since it could be a ’2′ a ’0′ (from Sub-Zero) or a ’4′ —or take your pick of any combination. How sly of Mary to throw in such a devious clue, leaving us in a state of perpetual agitation.

Certainly, the first clue is number ’1′, and the last is ’7′, however it seems that clues two are in doubt (a ’6′ or a ’2′) as well as clue three (’2′, ’0′, ’4′)

Neither are they necessarily in that order. There is no 16247 zip code, by the way.

Perhaps another clue will be coming soon….

DBCoop on May 10, 2009 at 9:02 pm
  25. Sorry, I typed an error above.
There is not a zip code for Natick, MA.

  26. Guys every clue shows the name Woodrum. I googled, and it looks like it is ROANOKE WOODRUM , VA

  27. If the numbers do identify with the zip code of Albany, New York, I guess I should mention that Albany is the capital of the state of New York, and sits on the Hudson River that has a major port, so ocean-going ships can reach the city!! And, the Adirondack Mountains flow past the Capital District, which forms a border between New York City and New Jersey! The Capital District is a region in upstate New York that generally refers to the four counties surrounding Albany: Albany County, Schenectady County, Rensselaer County, and Saratoga County.

I’ve been searching for a great area for the next Dream Home in the Albany area, and think I’ve found the absolutely perfect fit…..FieldCrest Estates!! It is a new construction housing development located in East Greenbush, New York. These energy-efficient luxury homes are located across the river from Albany in the Capital District!! Yes, this city has shopping, dining, and nightlife amenities, but still has that small town atmosphere!! What a fantastic community for the next Plantation Style home!!

Where in the world is Jack??? Jack has been seen in North Chelsea Cove, somewhere between 24th & 26th Street, jogging around the park’s newest public pier, Pier 64!? Someone caught Jack biking on the 5.0 mile bike path, which is connected to Riverside Park south at West 59th Street! And, Jack was spotted at Pier 84 at West 44th Street free fishing with Big City Fishing on the pier, what…a photo caught Jack at Chelsea Waterside Park (West 23rd Street and 11th Avenue) at a basketball court making a slam dunk! Jack still has time for outrigger canoeing…wow, this man is getting well acquainted with the Albany, New York, area at Pier 77 at West 26th Street!! If Jack is in the city of the oldest surviving European settlement, then we can only believe that Albany, New York, truly will be the setting for the next Dream Home….in the FieldCrest Estates? :)

  28. Dear Coop: I’m thinking there is a difference determining which is the third paragraph in the Sitting Room article. I see where you are coming up with your 6…but, I see that as the fourth paragraph??? Make sense?

Marie Miller on May 10, 2009 at 11:05 pm
  29. JENN= I hope that you are Right— Roanoke, Virginia is very nice. I would Love to Live there Again

  31. I don’t know about Roanoke. In Mary’s “A Hint” she uses the term “outlandish”. To me that denotes land out from the continent, such as a cape, penninsula or island. I just haven’t quite figured out which one.

  34. P.S. I loved reading everyones guesses this weekend…it made a good read on a wonderfully relaxing Mother’s Day…thank you to all!

Lynn Coggin on May 11, 2009 at 8:22 am
  35. Okay Coop: If I were to use your 6, because Paragraph 4 is actually Paragraph 3…then the numbers drastically change…you would also have to decide which of the two numbers to use in the paragraph on the third page of the HGTV Dream Home 2009 Kitchen photo gallery….the very first sentence says twin (could be 2), but then the paragraph under “Organizing Made Easy” says “Two (2) Sub-Zero (0) refrigerators accommodate both the weekly needs of the family and weekend crowds. Four (4) shelves of space above each refrigerator conceal those large and not-so-often-used appliances and serving trays.” If you use all the numbers, you would come up with 162047 (I think it’s unlikely)! So, I guess it depends how we arrange the numbers, and which paragraph we decide is paragraph 3 in the “Sitting Room” Article? Help!!! I’m sooooo confused. That’s why I like the 12247…straight forward to Albany, New York!! I have to admit, I did like your first guess: “At this point would be the year 1627, in reference to the first permanent English settlement in New England, which was Plymouth Colony (Plymouth, MA)!”

Where ever those numbers take us, I’m betting on the next Dream Home being built somewhere in New England!!! :)

Marie Miller on May 11, 2009 at 8:51 am
  36. In the guest bedroom pic which were we led to in the first clue, take a look at the pic which talks about the conch shell picture that takes the place of a headboard. It says, “The focal point of the room, a reproduction of the first print in Ottolander’s Conchology Studies series, serves as the first clue to a subtle shell theme and stands in for a more elaborate headboard.” SERVES AS THE FIRST CLUE is right in the caption. Coincindence or a big clue?

Cathy Lemar on May 11, 2009 at 8:53 am
  37. Also, another look at the bathroom pictures clue…..the large clam shell is the “focal point” of the room…..and perhaps the second clue?????

Cathy Lemar on May 11, 2009 at 8:59 am
  38. Marie Miller,

You renewed my faith!! Let it be New York.

  40. The numbers clue coule be One, Six, Four, Seven – 1647 That year seemed to be significant to Massachusetts with the Massachusetts Bay Colony. That year they banned priests and The Massachusetts School Laws were three legislative acts of 1642, 1647 and 1648 enacted in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The most famous by far is the law of 1647, also known as the Old Deluder Satan Law and The General School Law of 1647. Anyone else find 1647 things?

Cathy Lemar on May 11, 2009 at 9:26 am
  41. Then there is:
The Laws and Liberties of Massachusetts

    1647

Cathy Lemar on May 11, 2009 at 9:27 am
  42. The 1947 education law was actually the law that began public education.

Cathy Lemar on May 11, 2009 at 9:29 am
  43. Something interesting….if you click on the Photo by ‘respres’ under the beautiful Country scene…you will find an array of different photo galleries…one being “The Cloisters – New York!” Question asked: “Will Dream Home 2010 be located in the country?” So, my brain starts spinning…there is a Country Knolls community in Saratoga County, New York! Coincidence? Maybe? We already know that Saratoga County is part of the Capital District, which is a region in upstate New York? And, Capital District is across the river from Albany, New York!

We are in a desperate state for a new clue Mary!!!

Marie Miller on May 11, 2009 at 9:30 am
  44. Cathy Lemar: I like your way of thinking with the numbers of 1647, which is significant to Massachusetts with the Massachusetts Bay Colony. :)

Marie Miller on May 11, 2009 at 9:34 am
  45. Oats were first brought to North America with other grains and planted on the Elizabeth Islands off the coast of Massachusetts

  46. We do need a new clue Marie….when are they posted?

Cathy Lemar on May 11, 2009 at 9:39 am
  47. Oh my….I am going to throw a wrench in. I saw the clue DULL on the Scrabble board and that has been really bugging me. I have been mulling over other comments, in particular the ones that mention N. Carolina.

DULL are the initials for Duke University Law Library in N. Carolina. That state is home to mountains, eight Indian tribes, and the ocean (and surf fishing), clamming and seashell collecting. Sea OATS are seen as a North Carolina crop to help struggling North Carolina tobacco growers. There is an Orange County in N.C..

Cathy Lemar on May 11, 2009 at 10:12 am
  48. Cathy Lemar: Yep, we certainly do need a clue with a little something more definitive!! I like some of your sleuthing though..you’ve come up with interesting guesses!! However, I really believe the common denominator has become somewhere in New England! :)

Marie Miller on May 11, 2009 at 10:31 am
  49. I’m thinking Albany, NY area or Saratoga, NY area. LOTS of Native American History there with the 5 Indian Nations (Algonkian, Mohican, Oneida, Cayuga, Onondaga, Seneca) Albany, NY is one of the oldest surviving European settlements from the 13 original colonies, besides New Amsterdam. There is also a Fort Orange in this area. HMMMM? More clues please!

Renee on May 11, 2009 at 10:43 am
  50. New Amsterdam is now New York City, Manhattan area. Neat history..check it out! Google “New Amsterdam”.
