Oh DBCoop, you are so close, yet so far away! Today’s clue is all about eyes. Can you match the eye to the person and then link that person to the HGTV Dream Home 2010 site location? I look forward to reading through your responses.

  1. KATYDID= OK, swimming with the darling dolphins, Yes, but being a lady pirate? NO — After DB Coop’s history lesson on Blackbeard the Pirate, — that’s a nothing doing!!!

DB COOP= You got me Laughing Again!!! Of course!!! Now we’re competing with the FBI, Reading Mary her “8th Amendment rights” — well, I mean, those are our rights, I guess?? And heartache and despair? And the pity of the maddening crowds? You are Just Too Funny!!!

Oh, I know. I wonder if I got anywhere if I called the ACLU. Maybe this is a Violation of the Freedom of the Known??

  2. ED— I’m still laughing about what DB Coop said, —- I don’t know about Mary. “THERES SOMETHING ABOUT MARY”.

We’ll see how long we have to wait tomorrow morning, –until the next clue–sweating it all out.

But who knows, maybe instead of another clue, maybe an Announcement??? (it’ll probably just be the announcement of another clue though)—-

  3. While waiting for MARY to provide us with further assistance in our search for the 2010 Dream Home, try perusing the following site, which features one page of homes in the Orange County, Virginia area:
    http://www.virginiaestates.com/property_listings/orange-louisa-fluvanna-va/orange-land.asp

Pick your favorite…I’m torn between the 7 bedroom FairView Mansion and the more “modest” 4 bedroom, exceedingly charming Cairngorm Estate. Both are fine Virginia examples of gracious southern living, with acreage and scenic vistas that will not disappoint.

Put on your hoop skirt and bonnet, Marie, order up the horse and buggy, and make haste, ’cause these two Orange County, Virginia estates await your discerning eye.

If a trip to Thailand ties me up during July and August as currently planned, I may decide to meander through the rolling Virginia countryside come September, regardless of whether MARY has divulged the 2010 Dream Home location yet or not!

Uh oh, think I hear footsteps heading this way…probably ‘Show Me’ coming to pull me off the keyboard. Well, I’m not going to go quietly this time….(Right! Do I ever?!)

DBCoop on May 17, 2009 at 11:31 pm
  4. Dear Coop: You had to know that I being the Southern Belle that I am would choose the Cairngorm property, but I guess we might want to jump on it since it is a ‘short sale!!’ Not only is this property gorgeous, I love the fact that it is set amid gentle mountains and sweeping pastures! I must quote once again the amenities….”Cairngorm simple elegance evokes earlier times. Mantles are from an inn visited by Jefferson, Madison, Lafayette, and Lee. Formal gardens, hundreds of old boxwood, fruit and walnut trees, and a well-sited pool with fantastic views. A garage w/guest quarters, a fine center aisle 8-stall barn, and sturdy utility buildings complete this rare offering.” Priced at $1,250,000.00 is a steal considering it sits on 28.70 acres. WOW!!

I shall accommodate the occasion with my hoop skirt and bonnet, while hustling through the main gates with horse and buggy, to lay claim on either of these two Orange County, Virginia estates!! Nice to know that the Cairngorm property is already fenced in and ready for my stead to rest and graze until we part again for more Orange County estates!!!

If your trip to Thailand does tie you up during July and August…do plan on stopping by the ole plantation house to toast the beginning of a new life in the rolling Virginia countryside…cause I’m DREAMIN’ BIG in hopes that HGTV’s Mary Mary quite contrary comes through with the Virginia 2010 Dream Home location without varying!

What….what did you say….Show Me has taken over the keyboard…do we need to tune in to the GH2009 for further ado? ): :)

  5. DB COOP= You have Exquisite Taste— The Fairview??? You are going to get Jim Nathan nervous!!! You are so funny– as you said, “as we wait for Mary to be of further assistance”– uh huh— Lets just hope there are no nose clues, ear clues, or lips clues!!! But— if it is a picture of an Elaborate Garden— it is CHARLOTTESVILLE!!!

I have to look at these pics again. The “Harvest Lane” and “Twin Brooke” caught my eye.

That would make for a Nice Get-a-way — going there. I’ve often thought about doing it myself, but always wound up going somewhere else. I really tried to go 2 years ago for Christmas— but went somewhere else.

You could either fly into Richmond or Charlottesville— but I’d check with the area before you book. Maybe you really could go to an Equestrian Show, or another event. Maybe a Caviliers Game?? They have many, many happenings at the UVA.

  6. MARIE MILLER= I am so with you on that, I am hoping so bad, that it is CHARLOTTESVILLE!!! I’m serious, but when I was googling– and going from clue to clue—I almost started to cry, ” THIS IS IT” “THIS IS IT”!!!!

I missed the “chairngorm”— it’s all the way in the corner– yes, lovely home.

  8. Did anyone mention that “So close yet so far away” is a Hall and Oates song?

Cathy Lemar on May 18, 2009 at 8:21 am
  9. Okay so I’m going to throw something out there. Let me know if you think it’s crazy. Going w/ Mary’s ‘eye’ theme. ‘Eye’land =Island. Is there anything there?

  10. Well some of the clues in the photos of the Green House mentioned Island living….

Cathy Lemar on May 18, 2009 at 9:18 am
  11. I’m still trying to figure out how Coop is “So close yet so far away”, but I am going to stick my neck out and say that the next dream home will be built somewhere either in Virginia Beach, Virginia, or Jamestown, Virginia (maybe even Williamsburg).

“Virginia Beach is a resort city with miles of beaches and every year the city hosts the East Coast Surfing Championship as well as the North American Sand Soccer Championship. It is also home to several state parks, several long-protected beach areas, three military bases, a number of large corporations, two universities, and numerous historic sites. Near the point where the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean meet, Cape Henry was the site of the first landing of the English colonists, who eventually settled in Jamestown, on April 26, 1607.”

“Jamestown is located on Jamestown Island in the James City County, Hampton Roads region of Virginia. Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in the New World, but was first inhabited by the Powhatan Confederacy. The Jamestown Settlement (originally Jamestoune Setlyement) was the first successful English settlement on the mainland of North America. Named for King James I of England, Jamestown was founded in the Virginia Colony on May 14, 1607!”

While I really think Jamestown is the likely choice, there is always Williamsburg, Charlottesville, Richmond & Norfolk…I’m so confused!! Oh yeah, there is always Orange County, Virginia, to consider…with its north-central Piedmont region, Orange County is a rural area with rolling landscapes and spectacular views of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

Even though the “eyes have it”, I’m still mixed about all the clues…please Mary, give us a clue that ties them all together!! :)

  12. Here are the lyrics for the Hall and Oates song: “So close yet so far away”…can you find any clues?

They met on the dance floor in the old high school gym,
He fell like a rock, she kinda liked him.
And his heart beat like thunder, as they moved cross the floor,
When the music was over, she slipped out of his arms, and out the door.

Yeah a man loves a woman, but he can’t understand,
Why she’s sad when she stares, at the ring on her hand.
Or she sits in some club, where the long shadows fall.
Drops a coin in the jukebox, not the phone on the wall.

So close, yet so far away.
So close, yet so far away.
We believe in tomorrow, maybe more than today.
We?e so close, so close, yet so far away.

Some people think, if you really believe,
That’s what you need to solve all the mysteries.
Yea I know someone, who just heads for the sun,
She says “I don’t wanna be wise, I just wanna stay young”.

So close, yet so far away.
So close, yet so far away.

We believe in tomorrow, though we?e stuck in today.
Baby we?e so close, so close, yet so far away.

There’s a restless look in your eye tonight.
There’s a secret hurt in my heart.
And the dream that pulls us together girl,
Is a dream, that? gonna tear us, tear us apart.

There’s a restless look in your eye tonight,
Oh, are you lookin for some way out of here.
We gotta fight to keep it together girl,
For the dream, that keeps us,

So close, yet so far away.
So close, yet so far away.
Who would of thought girl that we? end up this way.
    Getting so close, so close,
    So far away.

We?e living in a dream world.
    Yet we?e livin today girl.
    Just you and me baby.
Gotta try, gotta try, gotta try, gotta try, gotta try, gotta try, gotta try.

  13. Diana: I think CHARLOTTESVILLE is probably a good guess!! It’s going to be somewhere close…but not too far away!!!!! :)

Maybe Mary, or our precious Gail, will have a new clue this morning! While stammering in La-La Land, it is stimulating to look at some of the lush estates in and around Jamestown and Virginia Beach! I came across this one I thought you might enjoy:

  15. I wonder if Mary meant that DB Coop is so close on his clue guessing yet so far away in terms of where he is to where the 2010 Dream Home will be located??

Cathy Lemar on May 18, 2009 at 10:18 am
  16. MARIE MILLER= I can’t get VIRGINIA off of my mind— was even dreaming of CHARLOTTESVILLE last night!!!!! I’m going to look more into that site, the Estates in Virginia!!!!

TRISTA may be on to something— something to look into— “eyeland”.

I’m so glad that CATHY LEMAR mentioned that Hall & Oates song— Confirms VIRGINIA even more. MARIE— I read the lyrics, but I can’t pick out anything, other than the OATES clue

Let’s think of the Magical Monticello

  17. I just Know that it’s VIRGINIA. The OATS Clue lead us right to either Richmond, Charlottesville, or Orange, and Marie– maybe Virginia Beach or Williamsburg, I don’t know. I think that it will be in CENTRAL VIRGINIA though— this is where the history is.

Here’s a few links to the History of JOHN OATES ( Hero in the Civil War– leading the Battle of Gettysburg in Robert E. Lee’s Army— wounded in Petersburg, Virginia)

    http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~pardos/JohnOates.html

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petersburg,_Virginia

This is a Picture of the Monument— now in Pennsylvania=

    http://photo.accuweather.com/photogallery/Content/PhotoDetails.aspx?pid=50494&partner=ej

I just think that “OATS” leads us to something different, other than just where they grow or something. Oat’s grow in many, mnay states

  18. CATHY LEMAR= I know, I know, the statement, ” so close, but so far away” really threw me for a few days—- I don’t understand it, I still don’t. Just don’t get it.

    1. Maybe could mean that it’s somehow “similar” to New Mexico (CLOSE), but still Far Away—- that’s why I was thinking of FLORIDA for a day or so—- but, I just don’t think so. I just feel it is More Leaning towards VIRGINIA.
    2. It could still be MASS.— I don’t know— why don’t you “Post” all of the clues with your information again?????— they got lost in the blogs
    3. The Ft. Myers News Paper yesterday had a headline: ” An Island so Close, but yet, So Far Away”—- it was referring to Cuba, and how it is close, but yet, some people can’t go there.—- I’m trying to see if this
    CONCEPT sheds light on anything???

  19. Being “so close, but yet so far away” can almost refer to an island (eye-land) or islet (eye-lit)off the coast. There are a ton of references to island living throughout the clues. Aren’t there islands all over off the east coast?

Trista - Upstate NY on May 18, 2009 at 10:31 am
  20. I am getting ready to run to work, but will check in when I get home for new clue and may post them again….funny how everyone feels so strongly about one place and feel the clues point to that place :)

    Happy Googling in the meantime….

Cathy Lemar on May 18, 2009 at 10:34 am
  21. Lake Anna, Virginia? Has someone already guessed that? It’s in Orange County, VA. Just a guess from a late comer to the game! Can’t wait to find out!

Penny on May 18, 2009 at 10:44 am
  22. TRISTA= If you are on to something— you just may, maybe it will be the TANGIER ISLAND after all???

I hope not, because you can only get there by a boat or a plane!!!! And honestly, how many crabs can you really eat???

I’m getting a little crabby about this whole thing— this is undue punishment, I’m getting desperate, dismayed and in a disarray—– LOL LOL LOL

  23. It is almost 11:00 AM, WHERE IS MARY ???? I hope that she didn’t take the day off!!! LOL Probably right now, the Executives at HGTV are in a Unit Meeting, trying to decide how to divulge the next clue to us—-

In the meantime, I’m still Dreaming about Moving back to VIRGINIA— now I’ll be able to FINALLY go and get a degree from the UVA!!! Really— I checked into it 2 years ago— but is was too $$$$ for an out-of-state resident, and the Internet degrees are more $$$$ too

Well, I’ll be busy for a while now—- maybe check back in later today or tonight

  24. Good morning to all! I wanted to see if anyone saw the home page of HGTV where there is a photo of a map and some pushpins. Any ideas about this? Maybe it is another clue? It is of the east coast states from Virginia north to Maine.

    Hope all is well!
