Coop: You did it….you guessed it some time ago…NEW MEXICO!! I’m disappointed about the New England flare, but I can see the Pueblo adobe home being a beautiful change for the DH2010! San Pedro, settled principally by the Tefoya and Montoya families, was an old Spanish agricultural community along the Rio Grande!! It is my undertanding that San Pedro Overlook is located in an area that enjoys low humidity, four mild seasons, and over 300 days of sunshine per year. This calm weather allows for a wide range of year-round, outdoor activities.
Thank you Jack for the GREAL REVEAL…we were all going crazy with anticipation, and I don’t think that cactus limb would hold out much longer…GREAT JOB COOP!!!
Disappointed, yeah…but I can root for Cape Cod next year!!! Coop – congrats on the good guess……and sticking to it. Are you sure you aren’t a Yankee???
Hey Coop – I have one request – please don’t hurt yourself while you are turning those cartwheels in celebration!
For myself – I was really hoping for something in the great Southwest! I’m a fan of Arizona but New Mexico should be just as great! Way to go HGTV!!!
BTW….whose eye is #3 and what is HIS connection?
Sun, golf, art, history, high speed rail, hot-aired balloons…the land of enchantment…I can’t stand it!! The San Pedro Vistat is breath-taking…and, 300 days of sunshine…I’m just not use to that!!! But, it’s a whole new paradise…what restaurant did I see Jack standing in front of…JOSEPH’S…is that located in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of the town of Taos and is that part of San Pablo? This truly is a geographic Mystic!!!! WOW! WOW!!
Now this really is my idea of a Dream HOme. I’m sure that HGTV will really wow us again! If theirs is anything like this and I win – I will be moving in faster then you can say Jack Thomasson!!!!
http://www.sanpedrooverlook.com/purchase/homes-for-sale/
I guess it is time for me to put away the ingredients for Mint Juleps & pull out the blender & tequila and triple sec with lime and lemon juice…Margaritas anyone? Time to put away the bonnet & hoop skirt & pull out the sombrero!! It sure won’t take long to travel between San Pedro & Albuquerque on that high-speed rail…what fun!! I would also love to visit Santa Fe just for the Nirvana Spa (”a place or condition of sublime happiness or fulfillment”)!! I’ve read that it is one of Conde Nast Traveler’s “Hottest New Spas in the World,” Absolute Nirvana is also a “green” spa, featuring the highest quality sustainable products! I’m so ready after all this exhausting sluething!!
Thank you HGTV for giving us a “whole new world” to look forward to!!
This is truly MY dream home. We live in New Mexico and love it. You could not have picked a better location! Thank you so much. This would be a dream come true.
Well, now we know. THANKS MARY, THANKS HGTV!!! Looking at this video, and the sites that I’ve already seen—- it looks very, very Nice!!!! Colorful and Bubbling Cities!!!
Being on the East coast ( Florida )— I was kind of hoping of a Closer Dream Home. But I know that HGTV cannot build a house to suit everyone’s needs and wants!!!!

Cathy Lemar…maybe a Cape Cod home next year? We will all see
In the meantime, I want to let all of ‘Gail’s Bloggers’ know that I have certainly enjoyed chatting with you all during this adventure. As I confessed before in this blog and in my SuperFan audition, I had been blog-stalking you guys for a number of years;) I knew you all but you didn’t know I was even out here. I am so glad I jumped on the limb this year and had my morning tea with y’all…okay, truth be told, I think I had some lunches, dinners, and Happy Hours (thanks to my new Long Island Iced Tea recipe from Marie) with you also
To all of my Blogging Friends: You guys taught me so much about the history of different parts of our beautiful country and I, also, learned how to make these little smile faces
along the way! Thanks Cathy Lemar!
MARY…soooo fun! You have the BEST job in the world! I so enjoyed chuckling along with you. I was so chuckling at myself at times;))) I would have myself very convinced of a location and then…POW!…I would be so wrong five minutes later…hahaha…thanks for the entertainment!
Thank you to all and I look forward to moving out west to New Mexico with you!
Living the Dream!
P.S. Marie, what’s your favorite Margarita recipe?!?!?

As always, HGTV does not cease to surprise us! The city brings about a sense of history, art, warmth, and relaxation. I can’t wait to see how the house turns out, but I am sure it will be so much fun.
Hello ! and thanks JackT to reveal the location of HGTV Dream Home 2010 now
peopple will focuos more specific on the new Big Dream because HGTV mades peopple let go
with their imagination like me. Good Bless all yours
I’m sorry Coop, but I just have to say this: JACK HAS FLOWN THE COOP!!!!
Lynn Coggin: First I might say that my most favorite Margarita is a LARGE Margarita!!
But, given the site for the next HGTV Dream Home, I will have to give you this favorite Margarita:
Albuquerque Style Margarita Recipe!!!
1 lime, cut into wedges
Coarse or kosher salt
1 (6 ounce) can frozen lime concentrate
3/4 cup tequila
6 tablespoons Triple Sec
1 (12 ounce) can lemon-lime or grapefruit soda
3 to 4 cup ice cubes
Lime twist for garnish
Lime peel for garnish
Rub rim of each cocktail glass with lime wedge; swirl glass in salt to coat rim. Combine half of each of the remaining ingredients, except garnishes, in blender container; blend until ice is finely chopped and mixture is slushy. Pour into salt-rimmed glasses. Repeat with remaining ingredients. Garnish, if desired.
There you go….in all its Southwestern glory!!!
Thanks Jack and Mary for the big reveal!
Congratulations Coop! That cactus limb served you well, in spite of any splinters you may have received. Can’t wait to see the floor plans of a home you would choose for this area.
To all the bloggers,
Your sleuthing skills are excellent. I’ve learned more from you than I probably learned in school–almost. Maybe because this was fun! You are one fun group of people!
Since I visit Albuquerque and Sante Fe every year, I’ll be able to check out the Dream Home. Unfortunately, it won’t be open for tours when I’m there. Oh well, maybe next year.
Have a great day everyone!
¡Ay chihuahua—por fin…Nuevo Mexico! Estoy tan feliz, no puedes imaginar.
Instantaneous translation: Holy chihuahua—finally…New Mexico! I’m so happy, you can’t imagine. How I enjoy the cities of Santa Fe and Taos, and now, I can start to get to know the town of Sandia Park, and the beautiful community of San Pedro Overlook.
Many thanks to our friend, MARY, with whom we had an adventure at times difficult (trying), but always fun. Although it’s a little early to celebrate with a Tequila Sunrise, y’all can be sure that I am going to be celebrating later. Hello to all my friends, with whom I had a great time blogging, and I hope that we will continue in the future, until I end up winning the grand prize, the 2010 Dream Home.
Now I’ve got to get busy—I barely know anything about the East Mountain communities, and I’m certainly looking forward to the learning process—even more so to the unfolding of the Dream Home process, from house plans all the way to the final reveal, and then on to the finish line!
Ah yes, The Land of Enchantment. Good work Jack Thomasson, and happy trails to us all!
Lo hiciste! Usted resolverse con tu ingenio! Gracias por mantenernos en el camino! A lo largo de usted sabía que era la idea de aloe vera … buen trabajo Coop!
MARY= I forgot to add, THANKS for all of the FUN!!!! It really has been a lot of fun and suspenseful!!!! I have Learned a Lot, especially from CATHY LEMAR, and I learned a great deal myself (with all of the blogging that I did)!!!
Now I can see—- the Color ORANGE— The Terrain, Mountains, Desert SAND all blend and look like the color Orange
And the Flower—- it must have been the YUCCA all along
When I think about it, TEE PEE was such an Obvious clue– and the First Picture Gallery— it all ties in
So—- I think, MARY, it was a Fair Game
Diana B
Nice! Thank Goodness, the HGTV Dream Home 2010 will be different! Great choice Jack! I know how hard it is for you to choose as we discussed before. Enjoy it!
No disappointment here. That poor cactus is going to come crashing down with everyone climbing on it. Now why did “Mean Mary” keep misdirecting us?
Tequila Sunrises sound great. Can’t wait to see the design they are going to put in New Mexico. Plenty of people have picked out some excellent Hacienda Designs for you Jack.
Finally, I have been saying “have a DH in New Mexico” near Santa Fe, for years. Now, I may even enter. Thank you Jack!! LOL Bill
I am excited about this location! The home will be both unique and beautiful. New Mexico is the perfect location.
Finally, now all the clues make sense…DBCoop stayed on the cactus limb, I’m glad it’s New Mexico, I can visit the Dream Home, just a day trip from Phoenix
My Dad sent me a funny story about New Mexico last week…hope it’s o.k. to post
If20you can read this whole story without laughing, then there’s no hope
for you. I was crying by the end. Note: Please take time to read this slowly. If you pay attention to the
first two judges, the reaction of the third judge is even better.
For those of you who have lived in New Mexico , you know how true this
is.. They actually have a Chile Cook-off about the time Halloween comes
around.. It takes up a major portion of a parking lot at the Santa Fe
Plaza Judge #3 was an inexperienced Chile taster named Frank, who was
visiting from Springfield , IL
Frank: “Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chile
cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I
happened to be standing there at the judge’s table, asking for
directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was
assured by the other two judges (Native New Mexicans) that the chili
wouldn’t be all that spicy; and, besides, they told me I could have free
beer during the tasting, so I accepted and became Judge 3.”
Here are the scorecard notes from the event:
CHILE # 1 – MIKE’S MANIAC MONSTER CHILE
Judge # 1 — A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.
Judge # 2 — Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild..
Judge # 3 (Frank) — Holy crap, what the hell is this stuff? You could
remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put the
flames out. I hope that’s the=2 0worst one. These New Mexicans are crazy.
CHILE # 2 – EL RANCHO’S AFTERBURNER CHILE
Judge # 1 — Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang.
Judge # 2 — Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken
seriously.
Judge # 3 — Keep this out of the reach of children. I’m not sure what
I’m supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who
wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer
when they saw the look on my face.
CHILE # 3 – ALFREDO’S FAMOUS BURN DOWN THE BARN CHILE
Judge # 1 — Excellent firehouse chile. Great kick.
Judge # 2 — A bit salty, good use of peppers.
Judge # 3 — Call the EPA. I’ve located a uranium spill. My nose feels
like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now.
Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back, now my
backbone is in the front part of my chest. I’m getting sh*t-faced from
all of the beer.
CHILI # 4 – BUBBA’S BLACK MAGIC
Judge # 1 — Black bean chile with almost no spice. Disappointing.
Judge # 2 — Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or
other mild foods, not much of a chile.
Judge # 3 — I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable
to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the beer
maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. This 300 lb. woman is
starting to look HOT . just like this nuclear waste I’m eating! Is
chile an aphrodisiac?
CHILE # 5 – LISA’S LEGAL LIP REMOVER
Judge # 1 — Meaty, strong chile. Jalapeno peppers freshly ground,
adding considerable kick. Very impressive.
Judge # 2 — Chile using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must
admit the jalapeno peppers make a strong statement.
Judge # 3 — My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I
can no longer focus my eyes. I farted, and four people behind me needed
paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her
chile had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by
pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher .. I wonder if I’m burning
my lips off. It really ticks me off that the other judges asked me to
stop screaming. Screw them.
CHILE # 6 – VARGA’S VERY VEGETARIAN VARIETY
Judge # 1 — Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chile. Good balance of
spices and peppers.
Judge # 2 — The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, garlic.
Superb.
Judge # 3 — My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous,
sulfuric flames. I crapped on myself when I farted, and I’m worried it
will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me
except that Sally. Can’t feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my butt
with a snow cone.
CHILE # 7 – SUSAN’S SCREAMING SENSATION CHILI
Judge # 1 — A mediocre chile with to o much reliance on canned peppers.
Judge # 2 — Ho hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of
chile peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I am worried
about judge number #3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is
cursing uncontrollably.
Judge # 3 — You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I
wouldn’t feel a thing. I’ve lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds
like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chile, which
slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava to match my
shirt. At least during the autopsy, they’ll know what killed me. I’ve
decided to stop breathing.. It’s too painful. Screw it; I’m not getting
any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I’ll just suck it in through the
4-inch hole in my stomach.
CHILE # 8 – BIG TOM’S TOENAIL CURLING CHILE
Judge # 1 — The perfect ending, this is a nice blend chile. Not too
bold but spicy enough to declare its existence.
Judge # 2 — This final entry is a good, balanced chile. Neither mild
nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge #3 farted,
passed out, fell over and pulled the chile pot down on top of himself.
Not sure if he’s going to make it. Poor feller, wonder how he’d have
reacted to really hot chile?
Judge # 3 – No Report
YAY! I love this area! It is truly one of the most beautiful places in the country. I cant wait to see what you guys do. Hopefully it won’t be too kitschy, there are only so many cow skulls and Navajo rugs one can handle! Great pick!!!
I wish we had an explanation for al lthe clues. the #. Ravioli? I am happy. My hubby is from Arizona and so we would just be a state away from his family! I have spent three summers there and love the warm weather. No water though.
JESSIROSE= This is what I found—- Good Luck in the Drawing— this would be nice for you (don’t live too far away).
Good Luck with your babies too— I hope that Camille gets better– Hang in There and Keep the Faith.
Between 1890 and 1900, over six hundred thousand Italians came to the United States .Italian immigrants did not truly start arriving in the state until 1880.( The Jesuit priests formed a bridge between the Spanish population and the newly arriving European immigrants.) Later Italian immigrants maintained this role in New Mexico.
Census data from 1910 shows 1,959 foreign-born Italians living in New Mexico. Italian newspapers and tight knit Italian communities kept the language intact. Albuquerque’s The Club Culturale Italiano used to run meetings in both Italian and English
There is an Annual ITALIAN FILM FESTIVAL there too

Oooohhhh, What a relief of trying to guess.
I really don’t know what this place has to do with words: Caesar or Black Bear, even big Lake and pictures with bunch and trees? Nothing. Why Mary kept misleading us?
Glad now that guessing is over. I got no sense of water anywhere in that place. So dry. I HOPE NEW PLACE WOULD HAVE HUGE SWIMMING POOL. I AM GLAD THAT HOUSE WILL BE IN MODERN STILE. That is great and I like a railroad idea.
Wow! the house will be built on 3 acres, that will be great, you can camp in your own backyard…is anyone familiar with this area? is there a lake, or river close by?
http://www.sanpedrooverlook.com/
sagg99/sheilagg1,
Loved your chile cook-off report. It is hysterical and absolutely true about New Mexico chili peppers. They are hot, hot, hot!!!
I grew up eating hot food, but New Mexico chili peppers are different from anything I’ve ever tasted!!! They burned my lips and tongue. Ice water does nothing to stop the burn.
My god-daughter lived in New Mexico for a while and acquired a taste for their chili peppers. Have you ever tasted chili pepper ice-cream? An oxymoron if’ve I’ve ever seen one.
New Mexicans love their chili peppers. They even use them for decoration. Believe me it’s nothing like Texas chili peppers or any other chili peppers I’ve tasted….
Well, maybe Bahamian chili peppers could compete with them. The first time I tasted their conch salad, I gasped for breath because of chili peppers. Once I recovered, I loved conch salad.
Welcome to New Mexico, 2010 dream team! Please taste the chili peppers.
I meant bench – not bunch – next to trees on a carpet of green grass.
Is this considered “contemporary pueblo” style? I think this is a beautiful style
http://www.servingalbuquerque.com/viewall.html?mlsid=86-649322
I had a blast with all of you and will enjoy continued blogging with you! This was my first time blogging here and I learned so much about all of you and about the history of this country. I can’t wait for the next mystery. Hasta luego…..
CATHY LEMAR= I learned so much from you, and please stay on the blog!!!! You brought back good memories of the great fun that I had one weekend in Boston and New Hampshire!!!
We’ll have to Look Forward to the Dream Home of 2011—- time flies quick. (Before you know it, Christmas will be here) In the meantime, maybe start looking for good sites and locations and suggestions—-
I will be doing my own “scavenger hunt” in Naples, Sanibel, Clearwater and Tampa. Ya never know!!!!
Diana B
I can’t believe it…. I guessed the right state…. My husband and I married in Santa Fe… I am guessing it will be a pueblo style ranch with all that space.. and the colors will be inspired by the mountains, various vegetation (including the cactus) and the beautiful sunsets. This is going to be fun… Can’t wait to learn more!!!
So, is it All Sun, or some Sun and Snow??? SAGG99, very nice link— but I see snow skiing. I thought New Mexico was Hot all year round?
I don’t think that I’ll try the Chili Peppers— I have a hard time with some guacamole, sometimes, in some restaurants!!
Diana B.
Lynn: I cannot find you Super Fan video…..what is the title?
I found you!!! Now I REALLY feel like I know you!! Good luck in your Super Fan quest!! Great video….
I’m so excited that HGTV’s decided that their next DH will be in New Mexico! Wow! Beautiful weather, wonderful art district, and so many wonderful things to do and see! I’m crossing my fingers that my family wins! Good luck to everyone who enters!
Cathy Lemar…Oh, my gosh! Thank you so much! That was so sweet of you! I already feel as though I know you and the other bloggers…isn’t it crazy how much you can learn about someone by blogging with them (or even just reading their blogs in the comforts of your home? Good times for sure!
sagg99…too funny! I loved your chili story…I could visualize it so easily…I think I may know Frank;)
Renee…you sure did…you guessed it…I was kinda clueless I guess?!?!?!
Diana…I may try the chili, but not without my Tums right next to me
Marie Miller…I am pretty darn sure I will not wait to get to New Mexico…I will be trying that Margarita recipe sometime this Memorial Day weekend, I’m sure of it! Thank you so much!
Living the Dream!
Here’s a link I posted on 7 May, which looks and sounds delicious. Taos will definitely be on my agenda before the year’s out (I haven’t even gotten around to putting my Callaway Gardens photos on CD yet!) http://www.fabulousfoods.com/recipes/article/20/19294
I think we gave Jack lots of ideas and places to check out in Virginia for upcoming Dream Home locations. Be sure it comes with plenty of those Dogwood trees, and of course, a riverside or lake view would be nice.
One thing I know for sure, after a few Margaritas, you don’t even notice those cactus needles…
Okay, must be siesta time ’bout now. Hasta la vista, damas y caballeros.
CATHY LEMAR= are you talking about LYNN COGGIN??? Is it you, LYNN??? Where is the Video—- I’d love to see it!!! Yeah, I kind of feel that I know Marie Miller ever since I saw the picture of her in front of the Sonoma Home.
Diana B.
yes! She is the one standing in the room with the large clock over fireplace.
Where is Marie’s picture?
LYNN COGGIN= so is it your Video??? Let me know where it is—- Love to see It!!!!
HA HA— you aint’ kidding about the tums!!! Seriously, I don’t do chili peppers LOL
I bet the ” Super Fan” job is a Highly Competitive Job to get. But GOOD LUCK !! Talk about a ” DREAM JOB”, huh?
Maybe be back on the blog later, later tonight—- but post where the video is, OK?
Diana B
CATHY= When we were blogging on the Sonoma blogs— someone set up, I think, a Facebook account—- Marie Miller’s picture was on there– they were suppost to post a pic of the other ” SISBP” group— but don’t think they ever did.
But where is Lynn Coggin’s video???– that would be such a fun job— Be back later, later tonight
Diana B.-
DB COOP= As always— you have great taste— that entree looks delicious. And Tee Pees? Its so New Mexico !!!!
Post anything on Callaway Gardens— Love to see it. I still glance at the ( REYNOLDS PLANTATION) every now and then—- Keep the DREAM ALIVE for 2011, that is
Diana B
DIANA – - – http://www.hgtv.com/super-fan-upload-your-audition-video/package/index.html
Her video is called “Living the Dream” and there is a large clock in the background.
I am rather disappointed. New mexico just seems dry and boring to me. I am sure that if I went there I would be proven wrong, but that is how it seems. I was hoping for a lake-front plantation (or log cabin) with mountain views in Massachusettes or Virginia.
Can’t wait to see this home. 3 acers .gee. but aren’t the Gated community’s very Expensive?
Any other bloggers trying out for HGTV Super Fan?
So far I’ve seen two videos, HGTVMan and now Lynn. Both are enthusiastic!
Marie Miller, I haven’t seen your video yet. Where is it?
I’m excited for a southwest Dream Home! What’s not to love about sunny, toasty days and gorgeous evening weather? Love it!
Next stop: SIMI VALLEY!
I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!
I LOVE New Mexico, and so glad it is not somewhere humid! What a great location!! Yes….I do plan on visiting this Dream House too!
Oh thank you and God bless you HGTV and Jack for staying out West!!!! Now I’m excited again. Nothing beats a Summer evening in New Mexico; it cools off so beautifully and stays cool til mid morning. Anybody who likes the outdoors will love NM and the people are very friendly. Don’t forget to give us a shaded outdoor kitchen with a fireplace – you just can’t live there without these things. BEAUTIFUL ideal location Jack! Oh, and since everybody seems to love the canine element of the DH, could we please have a covered dog run this year to protect our buddies from coyotes, cougars, etc. Looking forward to the floor plans now, hurry on up with that
Just a quick note for those that might not be desert heat seekers—the gated community of San Pedro Overlook sits at about 6,400 feet in elevation, and is considered High Desert, which keeps it pleasantly cool much of the year. (For example, current temps there are in the 60-70’s, as opposed to California’s Low Desert temps now in the upper 90’s.)
And now, just for MARY: following the letters NM, I’m thinking of two words that each start with R. The two clues are ‘Albuquerque’ and ‘Santa Fe’—can you make the connection?
For everyone else, go to: http://www.nmrailrunner.com/
I patiently waiting for the floor plans, this site has a nice backdrop of the Turquoise Trail, hum…Turquoise is my favorite stone, and color
oops forgot yo put the site
http://www.turquoisetrail.org/stops/category/sandia-park/
New Mexico is beautiful!!! I went there years ago around the Santa Fe area. Can’t wait to see the latest dream home.
All the houses are beautiful and every place choosen Jack is smart about location, with the exception of maybe two. All locations are within a decent range of a larger city and the town itself is not declining but still increasing in value, so a professional or someone with a trade could easily relocate.
Chow love ya, Jack!
Oh DB your really funny. Ah this is hard let me guess, “New Mexico.” Most towns were founded for topography reasons, concerning San Pedro, I’m sure the heat was a factor when setteling.
Oops, as I was going to comment, of the 5 architectural styles permitted within the guidelines of San Pedro Overlook (Pueblo, Territorial, Ranch, Grand Lodge, or Contemporary Pueblo)—being the traditionalist, I’d opt for the Grand Lodge as my first choice, then on down to the Contemporary Pueblo.
But then I watched Jack Thomasson’s location video again, where he mentions that the 2010 Dream Home will be in the Contemporary Pueblo style…sooo, I look forward to having my ‘traditional’ design preferences stretched once again, in learning to appreciate the updated Pueblo style.
Change is usually good, but only if you can gain insight from the lessons behind it. Since HGTV never disappoints, as far as I’m concerned, I’m looking forward to the challenge. Bring it on, HGTV cast and crew!
Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos, and Sandia Park, get ready with the best you’ve got to offer, ’cause I’ll be heading your direction before long, putting the slogan ‘The Land of Enchantment’ to the test!
PS: ‘Show Me The Green’ wanted me to remind y’all that over in the GREEN HOME arena, we’ve only two weeks left to enter the sweepstakes (last day is 5 June) so BE SURE to get your entries in, and DON’T MISS A DAY!
I wonder, if a blogger wins, will it be party time? Break out the bocce balls!
I like the looks of a contemporary pueblo style. I think the design would fit well with ICF Construction Techniques. The flat roof would provide a large area for unobtrusive solar panels. I do have concerns with flat roofs though. In my younger days I had to repair many leaks in the typical tar & gravel flat roofs. I hope the new rubberized roofs last much longer. A large flat roof could also provide a nice surface area to catch rain water in an underground cistern for the garden. I am like you Coop bring it on HGTV. I would like to see what they do with the typical minimalist decoration used in pueblos.
I was right on!!! And I am so happy!! You all can come visit when I win it:)
Woo hoo Heat and sunshine. Had a real gut feeling it was southwest. Thanks Jack and Mary thanks for the fun
Diana…it is me! I was one of the first ones to upload the video and since then there have been many others and they are all great!
Cathy Lemar…do you like my clock? You’re too funny!
So, it’s going to be a Contemporary Pueblo – The Contemporary Pueblo architectural style refers to a building whose interpretive forms are historically or stylistically based on the vernacular local building type. The design may be an architect’s exploration of the vernacular style through the abstraction of its various elements and the integration of modern materials and technology to create a contemporary interpretation. The assembly and composition of a Contemporary Pueblo style may be flat roofed. Surfaces and edges may be sharper and regular, creating a clean and simplified look.
Clean and simplified look…I like that! This should be very interesting because, being from Pennsylvania, I know very little about these types of homes.
Coop…I agree…this will be a true adventure and I am sure all of us will learn to appreciate the look that HGTV will create. When will you be going to New Mexico? Will you visit the home?
Ed…Oh, yes, flat roofs around my area are a pain but I think they are probably more perfected in the southwest. I think the weather helps.
Stephanie…thanks for the invite! I’ll be there
Marie Miller…Where are you? What do you think? I’m interested in hearing your thoughts. Will you also go to visit the home?
Ingrid & Bobo…We haven’t heard from you in quite some time…Hope all is well! Any new neighbors yet?
Living the Dream!
LYNN COGGIN= So WHERE is the video?? How do I find it, I’d LOVE to see it. Being a “Super Fan” would be a fun job!!!!
Diana B
CATHY LEMAR= THANKS!!! OK, Lynn— Cathy Lemar posted the site—-just now reading over the blogs— will look at it a little later
Diana B
Lynn Coggin: Sounds like a great way to celebrate Memorial Day…with margaritas…I’ll probably whip up those Hawaiian Long Island Teas for friends & family after attending our local parade..small town celebrations are wonderful!!
Lessie: I did not do a video, but gosh, there sure were a lot of folks that did…too bad Gail couldn’t have some of the others help her!! So many great videos were submitted…must have been hard for HGTV! But, they did pick Gail, and she had done a fantastic job…we are all proud of her!!
Ynotme: I love the outdoors, but I do have to reveal a phobia I have…SNAKES!! Yikes!!
Coop: Taos…Yes!! Tidbit I read: “Prestigious Italian guidebook author Luigi Veronelli named Taos, New Mexico Chef Carlo Gislimberti one of the Top 10 Italian chefs in America!”
I agree with you that HGTV should look towards Virginia as the DH2011…seems like a logical place to me…PLEASE!! I guess my bonnet will have some dust on it before HGTV brings a southern plantation to us!!
Yeah…Railrunner!! Yeepee!! What a way to go..I’m excited as I would be much better on a locomotive than biking or hiking as it would be harder for the snakes to nip at my heels!! Especially those ridge-nose rattlesnakes!!
Have we already looked at the following plan for our plateau?
http://www.dreamhomesource.com/pueblo_house-plans_DHSW41898.hwx
I actually like the previous plan I submitted before we knew exactly where the HGTV 2010 Dream Home would be!! It will probably remain my favorite!! Do they build snake-proof moats around most of the casas in New Mexico?
Me sentiría seguro en una torre con vistas a los valles más abajo! Tiene un gran día y siestas feliz a todos!
ALL RIGHT!!! I absolutely love New Mexico-if i could retire right now that’s where I’d be. New Mexico isn’t as overly populated as the Phoenix area and still have all that great southwest culture. Great choice HGTV-I’m counting the days…..
LYNN COGGIN= GREAT VIDEO!!! I just saw it. I think that you’d make a Great “Super Fan”— I found it right away, when I saw how it was titled, “Living the Dream”!!
Well, know I Feel like I Know you Now!!! It’s nice matching faces to the bloggers. Your house looks very nice. Did you say once that you live in South Carolina?
With the Excitement that you Projected, I Really think that you would be Great for the Job. And you have a nice voice too— important for the job too. I don’t understand though—- is the job a “temporary job”. Because they have Gail now. Just wondering—- because that would be a fun thing to do.
Can you imagine being “Forced against will” to Travel??? Wouldn’t have too much pity on that person, LOL LOL
Diana B
MARIE MILLER= I agree with you and DB Coop, that HGTV should look towards Virginia for 2011. So don’t pack your bonnet away yet. And don’t throw out your recipe, for (Pecan Pie).
I think that me, you, and DB Coop should work on the “Proposal”— in a couple of months. If you and DB Coop get together on this job— DON’T LEAVE ME OUT
About the Snakes??? I hate to tell you, but I’m afraid that they are in NM— can’t be for sure though. When my cousins lived in Dallas— they said that they were there, along with Tarantula Spiders!!!!
But what could you do?? No matter where you live, you have to somehow live with Nature
Those annoying little lizards in Florida with their long tails aren’t seeming so bad afterall!!!
Diana B
well..I was wrong about Mass. just moments before I realized they were revealing the location. New Mexico it is..and what a wonderful choice. Good Luck everyone.
Here’s what I am going to make for us this weekend in honor of the HGV Dream Home 2010
Quesadilla (a Bed and Breakfast Recipe)
4 flour tortilla
1 cup refried beans*
(may use canned)
1 sm. cooked potato, cubed
1 cup cooked meat (may be ground,
cubed, or shredded beef, elk,
deer, pork, or sausage).
2 eggs well scrambled
2 cups grated longhorn cheese
1 cup red chili sauce* or
1 cup green chili sauce*
1 sliced jalapeno
Sour cream
* Recipes follow.
Preheat oven to 350°.
Arrange one tortilla on each ovenproof plate.
Carefully spread 2 tablespoons of refried beans on each tortilla. Sprinkle small cubes of potatoes over the beans and follow with meat and eggs. Spoon red or green chile over all and top with grated cheese. Bake in preheated oven until heated through, about 6 to 8 minutes. Remove from oven and garnish with 1 tablespoon sour cream and a slice of jalapeno. Serve at once.
Esto suena tan delicioso!!!!!
Living the Dream!
LYNN COGGIN= Are you a Professional Chef? It sounds like it. I saw “your ideas” that you posted on the “Green Home Blog”– about the Crepes. Either way, I can tell that you are a good cook!!! In Florida, you can squeeze your own Orange Juice. It’s best to buy a Pricier, Better Juicer— Cha Ching— have it in a few minutes.
And it was a GREAT VIDEO!!! I think that you’d make a Great “Super Fan”— I found it right away, when I saw how it was titled, “Living the Dream”!!
Well, know I Feel like I Know you Now!!! It’s nice matching faces to the bloggers.
With the Excitement that you Projected, I Really think that you would be Great for the Job. And you have a nice voice too— important for the job too, I think.
Diana B.
LYNN COGGIN= I forgot to add, Mussels are one of my favorite dinners to eat !!!
Salmon is a good choice ( the orange glaze that you mentioned sounds delicately delicious). Salmon is a good choice on the East Coast ( Pt. St. Lucie)— and Grouper is a good choice for the West Coast ( Naples/ Ft. Myers)
Diana B.
Wow Jack, hgtv dream team, that is such a great location and something to be SECHI about…. I look forward to seeing dream home 2010.
Not my #1 choice location, but I can learn to live with it
sagg99/sheilagg1 – LOOOOOL!!! it was hilarious.
What a disappointment! I am puzzled even more so now by the decor in the 2009 Dream Home. With New Mexico as the selection for 2010 the decor of 2009 DH had nothing to do with clues. With that in mind, the decorators did a bad job on 2009 DH by not decorating the house to go with the beautiful exterior and landscaping. Your own TV shows stress not using modern decor in a traditional home since buyers attracted to exterior would be turned off by the modern interior. New Mexico and the announcement of modern decor is just another disappointment. I was still hoping for a Virginia classic house (maybe a tudor) with classical furnishings. Linda did such a good job on the Carolina Cottage Dream Home. Her work recently is not so good. If you want to go modern then do something special like the house in the film “Ruthless People”. The HGTV modern decor is a poor man’s version of modern. Virginia real estate is booming and would have had a good resale value for the winner as well.
MARTI= I do Agree with you, in so many more ways then one. I would have Loved Virginia for Many Reasons: ( Yes, Good Resale Value, Change in Climate, Mild Winters)— and Above All ( CLASSY, CULTURE, HISTORY, SOUTHERN CHARM, and I guess, well, it could be considered ELITE— as Monticello Overshadows the Mood)— and of Course, the Beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and beautiful countryside.
But, I guess there’s nothing that we really could do about it—just learn to accept it and just await for the Dream Home of 2011.
Diana B.
I am so excited about 2010 dream home in Sandia Park. I was born and raised in Albuquerque and have family who live in Sandia Park. It is so beautiful in Sandia Park. Albuquerque is just around the Sania Mountians and Santa Fe is just up the road.
So things to know about New Mexico. When you ask for Chile you will not get Texas Chile but you get Green Chile. If you ask for chile make sure you specify which kind, red or green. Don’t trust anyone from New Mexico if you ask them if the Chile is hot. They will always tell you no. My grandma still claims that her chile is not hot. If you do eat some hot chile, drink milk (not water) and eat bread. This will help you recover faster.
Check out Wikipedia for New Mexican Cuisine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_mexican_cuisine
Can’t wait to see the house!
In the Meantime— Here’s a Recipe for New Mexico—- Just for Fun—- But More for the Guys I think, rather then the Gals==
“TEQUILA TIMES”
1. Sip One Shot of Tequila
2. Gargle One Shot of Tequila
3. Drink One Shot of Tequila
REPEAT 4 TIMES
Now—-
put your shot glass aside
1. Have a can of Beer in one hand
2. Have a bottle of Tequila in the other
1. Drink a little beer
2. Drink a little tequila
Keep REPEATING— You Don’t Have to keep count anymore, because you won’t remember anyways
The Next Morning, You will Forget all about eating the worm
Diana B.
See— NEW MEXICO can be FUN too!!!!
And it really is a Great Place to go Bike Riding too !!!!
Diana B.
TIFFANY= THANKS! I have never been to New Mexico, but have heard that both Sante Fe and Albuqeurque are Very Nice.
About the Chili? I don’t know about that. I have a really hard time with jalapeno peppers!!! But thanks for the advice, when ordering at a restaurant
Diana B.
Fabulicious!!! I lived in Texas most of my life until 5 years ago and visited many times. Love the art, scenery, food, and I appreciate the climate even more now that I’m in a bit cooler spot. My dogs would be in heaven with the acreage!!! Can’t wait to see the finished product!
Hey Y’all,
On the Green Home site, Mary put up a quiz that tells you what kind of home you’re attracted to according to your personality.
Don’t believe me, take it! You may be surprised to discover why certain homes attract you.
Those of you with multiple personalities, don’t worry. There’s nothing wrong with liking two or more homes.
Marie Miller, I like the exterior look of your Southwest home plan, but after your ‘True Southern Belle’ plantation, 1,818 square feet is little more than a guest house. Remember, dream BIG! Talking of, here’s the Southwest equivalent of Marie’s Plantation home—this one has room to grow into, and then some: http://www.architecturaldesigns.com/southwest-home-plan-83395cl.asp#d I had posted this link previously on 7 May. Maybe you can find a compromise, Marie, somewhere between 1,818 square feet, and this Southwest on steroids!
Lynn, yummm, I love Mexican cuisine, and those quesadillas sound dreamy. Hmmm, time for a visit to my favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner tonight.
Well, Diana B, take your pick of wildlife. Every area has its particular species to avoid (bears, ‘gators, snakes, spiders, even skunks), and big or small, we learn to adapt and live around them. In most cases, they do better at avoiding us than the other way around. I can do without the worm in the Tequila as well, thank you. Maybe I’ll stick with margaritas from now on….
Tiffany from NM, thanks for the link to New Mexican cuisine. Interesting to read how they differentiate between traditional Mexican and NEW Mexican cooking styles.
I know all about the flat roof issues too, Ed. I think they’ve come a long way in dealing with those problems—new building techniques as well as materials, so they last much longer, stay stronger, and no need to keep buckets handy for all the ceiling drips anymore!
As to the Sandia Park Contemporary Pueblo style, I think it lends itself to a range of interior decor, from rustic to ranch, mid-century to modern. I look forward to Linda Woodrum’s interpretation—will it go casual or chic, or a seamless blend of both?? Knowing her range of talents, it’s bound to be, shall I say, enchanting!
I’m curious (what’s new) about the builder they’ll be using for the San Pedro Overlook Dream Home. There are six builder “partners” listed for the community: Allied Homes, Campbell Custom, High Mountain, Panorama Homes, Life-Style Homes, and Crombie, although one can also bring in their own builder of choice. Might we even be seeing a ‘homesbymarie.com’ plan?
So many more fun surprises waiting on the road ahead. As for MARY, no more clues please, just straight-talkin’ and lots of it from the HGTV corral. Time to pull on the boots, get the sombrero, saddle the horses (or, you may prefer to grab the car keys, and put down the top), and head for the Turquoise Trail.
Will be looking forward to the floor plan for the dream home. Never been to New Mexico and always wanted to go. You could not have picked a better location! Thank you so much.
I am not interested in that special spa place because spas are everywhere.
I am not interested in hot Chili Peppers either. I hate hot food. I do not think those two things including margaritas that you find anywhere are the only things that make this place desirable.
I prejudge that house will be absolutely beautiful and desirable and I think there are many amusing places around it. However, I stand firm that house unavoidable cries for swimming pool. I will enter sweepstakes every day and hope to enjoy all of it.
DB COOP= Yes, I’d rather stick with Margaritas too. That was an Excellent suggestion, when you found, — (Homes by Marie)– very nice site with nice houses!!!!
I’m sure that Linda Woodrum will do an excellent job— she so Talently and professionally decorated the Sonoma home beautifully. I bet we will see a home in “South Westhern flair”. Or a touch of decor from Montana, etc.. which is also very nice and different
Diana B.
I had a recurring dream years ago about attending a beautiful gathering with artists, actors, musicians, etc. in a fabulous setting surrounded by adobe, terracotta, brilliant sunset, joy, peace and love. I remember saying, the setting looks like New Mexico. I’ve never been there but I feel a pulling in my spirit to see it. Where there is a vision, there is provision. Could this be our house? Only God knows. So, I am praying everyday and plan on entering everyday. Whatever happens, God bless HGTV for making dreams and miracles come true.
LESSIE= THANKS for telling us about the quiz— I’ll look for it, and take it tomorrow— will be interesting to find out.
Thought I’d Pass this along=
http://www.desert-sky-designs.com/
Diana B
Diana – My husband laughed his a** off when I read him the tequila recipe!! He is a Tequila man…he knows what you are talking about!!
I remember going to Albuquerque many years ago on work for a meeting. We met outdoors and I never got hot but had a great burn afterward….and I never burn. In Maine, it is miserable when it is hot…..it was nice in NM! Not to mention Maine does NOT have good Mexican food…same with Cajun food after I went to New Orleans….But we DO have lobster
Finally! The perfect location I have been waiting for! HGTV got this right 100%!!
CATHY LEMAR= Yes, Spring Break brings back fun memories!!!
Wow, so you live in Maine? Doesn’t it get really, really cold there? Lets at least shoot for maybe Mass. or NH—-for the “Next Time”— a few degree’s warmer!!! and you know how much fun Boston is.
And doesn’t Boston have a Hotel where they have a “Chololate Buffet”?????
Diana B.
New Mexico is the cat’s pajamas! I am so glad you finally picked a place I would love to dwell in. Anxiously awaiting the floor plans.
DB COOP= You found an Excellent Website!!! I don’t know how you find these—- one of these days, when you catch up with Marie Miller—- you should mention the “Homes by Marie” again!!!
I’ll get back in a few days— and let you know which one is my favorite.
For Now—- this is my pic for the “DOGGIE DREAM HOME” THOUGH
http://www.architecturaldesigns.com/victorian-house-plan-80249pm.asp
Why not dream big?
Diana B.
Lessie – could you please put a link for that quiz….I can’t find it. TY!!!
Diana – Here is the link to the hotel in Boston. http://boston.langhamhotels.com/en/restaurants/chocolate_bar.htm
I tried to put it up before but it kept saying I already made that comment. LOL Anyway, yes it does get cold her sometimes in the winter. We may have a few days that go to minus singles and teens. My Texan relatives can’t take the heat here in the summer when it is really humid. And we all know how hot it is in the Houston area.
I’ve never been in New Mexico but I heard so many beautiful things about it and the people; can’t wait to go there and enjoy it
I’ll keep watching, can’t wait to hear more !!!
Cathy Lemar,
Here’s the link: http://blog.hgtv.com/greenhome/2009/05/22/fun-on-friday/#comments.
It’s Mary’s Friday post on the Green Home site.
Thanks for the link, Diana B, to Desert Sky Designs. I see they even picture one of their homes (Cook/Sprunt residence) which is in Sandia Park.
I really liked the link to your charming little Victorian. I’ve never seen such an appealing plan in that small of a package, less than 1,400 square feet. A great getaway home, or a very special guest home set on a large property somewhere in New England. What divine design!
The builder will be Allied Builders according to the New Mexico Business Weekly
(albuquerque.bizjournals.com).
We are VERY excited in New Mexico. And by the way, the Railrunner only goes north and south between Santa Fe and Belen,(south of Albuquerque)This location is on the eastside of the montains, east of Albuquerque.
Even the cranes are here to.
How’s this for timing? LOL

Santa Fe, NM—If you think history is boring, the New Mexico History Museum, opening in historic downtown Santa Fe on Memorial Day Weekend 2009, will have you shelving that notion right alongside the dust-covered history textbooks banished to the attic. On Sunday, May 24, 2009, the 96,000-square-foot, world-class cultural institution will open its doors to the public to unveil a state-of-the-art, immersive interactive exhibition set to cast new light on how history can be learned. It also will redefine the modern history museum. The multi-media environment will bring to life the complex, colorful and legendary stories of the 47th state in the Union, stories that began long before the Pilgrims set sail on the Mayflower for American shores. “

White home and white roof would reflect the hot sunshine.
But nice black solar panels to make power for the AIR CONDITIONER Baby!!
How close to the border are we at this Dream home?
Funny sagg99/sheilagg1 on May 21, 2009 at 1:55 pm !!
I would need many beers after THAT chili tasting contest! LOL
I am allergic to peppers!! So not eatting them!
Here’s a quick and easy quiz for MARY. Bloggers can jump in anytime they’d like with an answer, just be sure to state “for bloggers only” in your post so MARY won’t be tempted to read it.
Not counting the international border with Mexico 270 miles to the south of Albuquerque, how many U.S. states does New Mexico share a common border with? (including the Four Corners states)
A. 3
B. 1
C. 2
D. 5
E. 4
Hi Coop…I don’t want to mess up your game…I think I know the answer but how do I respond without Mary being able to read it?
I’m confused
Living the Dream!
Fun for you Mary!!!!!
Living the Dream!
WOW!! So many posts…so little time! I’m having company over the Memorial Day Week-end, and busy, busy…just showing them around town, attending the Memorial Day Parade (small towns are so fun), taking them to the hidden sites of Brookings! So, I will catch up on Tuesday…darn that is so far away, please do not forget about me!!! Until then……….Tiene un maravilloso Día de celebración! Nada hace que la tierra parecen ser tan amplias como para tener amigos a distancia, que hacen las latitudes y longitudes.
OH! OH!, Would any body can tell me Who is
Marie Miller? yes, she wrote the new
question for the bloggers of Green Dream
and I can see her as a blogger too *.*
Thank you, and Hello again
For Bloggers Only,
Coop,
Do you realize it’s Friday night? You want me to count?!!
5 (FIVE). If that’s not right, my bad! Won’t be the first wrong answer I’ve had.
AlmaCasiano,
Marie Miller is the queen of HGTV blogs. She encourages all bloggers, paints excellent word pictures, and has a great love for the south. She is a true Southern Belle.
I’ve heard that she’s also a great cook. We won’t find out how great a cook she is unless one of us bloggers win the Green Home. I’m sure she’ll be more than happy to prepare a dish or two for the bocce ball party.
Marie is definitely someone you’ll love. Read her blog posts.
LESSIE= THANKS again for telling us about the Quiz— I’ll take it tomorrow, and I’ll tell you how I scored. I just hope that I don’t find out that I have a multiple personality— LOL
Now, I’m going to cheat, look at a US map, before taking DB Coop’s quiz—- be back
Diana B
FOR BLOGGERS ONLY= = =
DB COOP= You always seem to find something fun to do (now that our scavenger hunt is over). Well, I’ve also verified my answer with Psychic.Com and asked the (Magic 8 Ball) the question too—- ONLY JOKING!!!
The answer, I think, is: E. 4
Now, guess what else is more South of the Border??? Hawaii !!!! Hmmm— not so bad.
I wouldn’t worry about Mary— seems like she has already moved on to bigger and better things—- the Green Home Blogs
Diana
Alma the Mary who wrote the quiz is an editor for HGTV. Marie Miller is a different person. She is an entertaining blogger from Oregon.
No problem, Lynn. Just like Lessie did, simply state “For Bloggers Only” so MARY won’t read it!
And thanks for the reminder about it being Friday night, Lessie.
That leads into the next question: how many Tequila Sunrise’s will it take before I forget what state the 2010 Dream Home is in?!
A. 2
B. 4
C. 1
D. 3
E. No limit
Diana I think you need a new magic eight ball. Most people forget about the little bit of Oklahoma abutting New Mexico. Try to find an eight ball that says five.
ED= HA HA HA, — I did count Oklahoma in. I see TX, OK, CO, AZ– that’s four. Now, I’m not counting Mexico.
LOL
Diana
DB COOP= you are so funny— how many tequila sunrises??? I’d say Four, maybe Five??? But then again, it depends (how) you make them– is your glass half empty or half full?
BLUES= THANKS for the link— here’s another one that I got led to:
http://www.balloonfiesta.com/
this looks fun
Diana
FINALLY NEW MEXICO!!!! i’m excited…BUT I hope it will have four bedrooms including the master bedroom and lots more closets! AWESOME!!
ED= oh, I see now— it’s 5- Utah
Diana
I was just getting ready to interject a comment before any fights break out—you’re right, Diana; technically, at its four corners border, New Mexico shares the border with 3 other states. Some folks miss Utah, and others forget about the slice of Oklahoma….
By the way, thanks for the Hot Air Balloon link. What an incredible sight that must be. I’ve done a hot air balloon ride, but just the one lone balloon on a gentle drift over the Napa Valley. It’s really quite a thrill.
Last but not least, a little bird on Google told me that the 2010 Dream Home will be 3,900 square feet. I was surprised the info is already making the headlines.
DB COOP= Being the King of Klues, you will have to Continue filling us in with all of the nitty-gritty details. A 3,900 square foot home is Very, Very nice— if it were any bigger, the winner would have to hire a live-in maid for heavens sake!!!
The Sonoma Dream Home actually got me back on the ” California thing”. So, in either October or November; me and my Dad are going to San Francisco, and Big Sur (in lieu of the wine country). And of course, Vegas— have to somehow tie that in. Can’t wait.
A Hot Air Balloon Ride would be so much fun— and I’m sure, quite a thrill. OK, I’ll start this one— if the winner is one of the bloggers— we will have a H.A.B.R.B.P.
Good night bloggers— be back tomorrow— checking in for the night, have lots of things to do tomorrow
Diana
What a great idea, Diana, a Hot Air Balloon Ride Bloggers Party!!
Plenty of time, but if you hit it big in Vegas on your trip later this year, you can pay for the taxes on the 2010 Dream Home! Just don’t forget your blogger buddies when you’re rich and famous.
A great weekend to all….
DBCoop,
Can’t answer your Tequila Sunrise question because you may or may not be like some home bartenders I know….very heavy handed.
Besides I doubt if you’d ever forget where the Dream Home will be since you were the only one who got the location right. Enjoy your victory drinks!
Now, where did you get the 3,900 sq. ft. info? Don’t stop sharing. Give us more details, please.
3,900 hundred square feet, that’s not quite as big as that 10,000 square foot monstrosity you posted Coop. Inquiring bloggers would like to know where you garnered that tidbit. 3,900 sq. Ft. is a nice size. I hope it has walled in porticos. Someplace I can let my chihuha out where the coyotes won’t think she’s lunch.
Bye the way Diana & I would never fight. We are both just happy friendly bloggers!!
Never mind Coop I found it on Ask.com. Sounds pretty nice 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, home theater, home office & guest casita. It’s in the second phase of San Pedro Overlook. Plus Campbell Ranch has guaranteed that they will buy back the $1.5 million dollar home! That eliminates the worry about the resale housing market!
Coop, by the way I meant to thank you for piquing my interest. I would not have thought there was so much information out there already.
I am beside myself with glee!!!! I have lived in Santa Fe for nearly 30 years and LOVE it so much. This is very exciting that we can share the enchantment and dream with everyone else! This is a fantastic place and I am blessed to be raising my children here. I saw so many familiar places in Jack’s video and have to tell all of you that the Rail Runner train has been a real treat to have. I will be first in line for the tour!
I sure hope they do not forget to include a swimming pool and patio with this one, at least 4 bedrooms (maybe even 2 of them master suites), 3+ baths, a kitchen/ dining/ great room combo overlooking those mountains, a family room, a nice outdoor living space with all the niceties and maybe even a theater room- my DH’s dream.
The Dream Home east of the Sandia (Watermelon)Mountains will be great. I moved to The Land of Enchantment shortly after discovering it (1975). Although I’m not in the Albuq-Santa Fe area anymore, I’d live in THAT home, no sweat. I’ll survive if I don’t win the home–’cause I live in Las Cruces! Yeah–360 days of sunshine…
Ed in Oregon, I too was surprised at the info that’s out already when I caught that news article.
I hope that since Campbell Ranch has guaranteed to buy back the home from the winner that we won’t be subjected to all the tax talk this year as we were last. (I’m sure we’ll hear it anyway.)
And since the Dream Home is out of the blog for all to see, so to speak, it can be said that the home is being constructed in Phase Two of San Pedro Overlook. Mark Roccaforte, known for his green building reputation, of Sonida LLC dba Allied Builders has been tapped to do the honors as builder of the 2010 contemporary Pueble style Dream Home.
Now, before MARY can rig up another quiz for us, who’s been selected as the architect? I’m thinking of a first name that starts with ‘A’ and a last name that starts with ‘C’. Hint: this person has a link to Massachusetts. Can you figure it out? (Ed in Oregon is already disqualified from answering due to circumstances beyond my control.)
Thank you Lessie…guess I am the Cape Cod….what a surprise!! LOL I tried to post to you too Diana about the Maine winters and that hotel in Boston….but twice it did not work
I don’t know what is wrong….have I been given the boot????
CATHY LEMAR= I am too, a CAPE COD— So, I guess I am a C.- FAMILY STYLE CAPE personality. I really think that us bloggers should form a ” DREAM TEAM”— LOL
About the hotel in Boston— I remember seeing it on either the ( Food Channel) or maybe (Rachel Ray). It has an elaborate- distinguished “anything chocolate” buffet!!! I can also call myself a choc-o-holic
Diana B
Hello bloggers, So now we finally know, I hope HGTV keeps us posted on the construction of the new house, I would love to see it. I’am a nuts n bolts kind of guy so I would really like to see things like utilities and water/drainageand sewage installed like we are seeing with the green home and blog cabin. BIG FUN! Danny p.s. Good job coop,You have my vote for superfan!
DB COOP= It is good to hear that the community will buy back to house— puts a lot of worries aside.
I’m still working on the “House Designs Website” that you posted—- I will post my Favorites probably late, late tonight— so check back Late Tonight— I’ll let you know.
Right now— I’m leaning toward the 3 STORY VICTORIAN— I just hope that it has an elevator!!!
I really would like for us bloggers to form a DREAM TEAM— You will obviously, have to be the one in charge though—-DB COOP, the DREAM TEAM Coordinator— what do you think???
Diana B
Amy Coburn Harvard trained?
Diana – Langham Hotels in Boston…but I think that there are a couple places that do chocolate bars. My husband would be in his glory….he loves chocolate. I don’t that much. I know – what a sin!
Cafe Fleuri too
CATHY LEMAR= I don’t know— but remember that it was in a hotel.
How’s this for a Dream Home—- when I saw it, I thought, OMG— this is totally Extreme. Check it Out:
http://www.architecturaldesigns.com/victorian-house-plan-8587ms.asp
be back later today
Diana B
COOP…I have the answer…Amy Coburn, trained at Harvard! Okay, so I may have too much time on my hands this weekend. Each year, for the past umpteen years, many dads and their children (and often their friends) venture out to go on a camping weekend over Memorial Day…Moms are not invited
There are about 33 dads and, oh my gosh, 100+ kids?!?! They have so much fun!
Now, back to us moms, we have our fun also let me tell you. Marie’s recipes are going to come in very handy this weekend :0
Anyway, if we lived in the HGTV Dream Home in New Mexico, what campground could be the location for the Memorial Day camping trip for my husband and children? Hint: I’m thinking it starts with M and means apple
)
Living the Dream!
Cathy Lemar…You beat me to it! I was too busy typing and researching that I missed your answer…hahaha! Good job!
Living the Dream!
Not fair Coop, I finally could have answered one of your questions & you disqualified me ahead of time!
You’re right. I am sure we will hear the tax talk. Many bloggers either don’t read the previous blogs, or the information doesn’t sink in. Thanks again for leading us all down the new information road. Now if we can find a public record of the building permit, we can force HGTV to let loose with info sooner. Go team!
ED= don’t worry about your little Chihuha. I don’t know about the coyote’s,, but I’m sure that your pup will make nice friends with a fox or two.
Trust me, in Florida, the gators’ don’t make friends with little dogs— OUCH!!! Those gators’ are Nasty
Diana B.
Actually Diana Bella is so small a fox would think she was dinner. The toy poodle & the miniature daschund would be better friends for a fox. I know about the alligators. Las time I was in Oklahawa, Florida My uncles dog was pulled into the lake by a big gator!
zeydrajo3 I sweetly laugh when read your post.
Yes place should have spacious rooms because is hot climax and has to have pool included. I wish I be winner and they include helicopter! ha ha haha ha ha
You really want too much. Ha, ha, ha. You forget boat. Oghh
Sorry for misspelling climate above.
Diana – No, I’m not a professional chef, but I do love to cook and try out new recipes. I go onto FoodNetwork.com a lot and get some tasty recipes. Also, I never lived in South Carolina…I was just rooting for it this year and trying to make the clues work
I did live in North Carolina for a number of years. I went to college there and my husband is from there. Also, my daughter goes to the University of South Carolina so we have visited that part of the country often over the years. My son went to Wake Forest University which is in Winston-Salem, NC.
Where are you in Florida? You were making my mouth water for grouper on the west coast;))
Ed in Oregon- OMG! The dog/gator story? I hate to ask about the outcome;( Does that happen a lot in Florida? What kind of dog is Bella? Poodle?
Living the Dream!
It should be included spell check in this.
ED= that’s terrible!!! I am so sorry to hear that. I know, it really is very common in Florida– if you live on a canal or lake!!!!
I really don’t like alligator’s. They are so sneaky— and you do not even see them until it’s too late— that’s why the scare of the bear is not really a problem. I’ve heard that bear’s are more afraid of us!!!
Diana B.
LYNN COGGIN= I’ve got to admit, I’m terrified of the alligators. They even camouflage their color— and blend in with the color of grass or trees, etc.
But— If you do not live Right on a Canal or Lake— you will Never see one!!!
1. Unfortunately, it’s “rumored” that they can even be in Man-Made Lakes, too—- they find their way—-
2. I think though; that the Fresh Water Canals do Not have them—- I think that they are only in the Salt Water Canals
They are Only in Canals and Lakes though— I try my best not to bicycle ride near canals— LOL
I live in Cape Coral— it’s right near Ft. Myers, and about a 45-minute drive North of Naples, and in the same distance— South of Sarasota.
1. West Coast ( Naples, Ft. Myers)– GROUPER is the Freshest Seafood— we have a few Stone Crab nests too in Sanibel, I think
2. East Coast ( Ft. Lauderdale, Port St. Lucie)—- SNAPPER is the Freshest Seafood
3. Florida Lobster are in both coasts–but you know, they don’t have the claws like Maine lobster
Talk to you later
Diana
Why was there a pic of a beach. Lived in NM for five looong years. It is not enchanting and there are more murders there than in NY City. There are gangs everywhere and the gov’t is worthless. Many cities don’t even have police because the pay in NM is so low. Most people only stay there because it is a sanctuary for illegals or they are poor after living there too long and can’t afford to move anywhere else due to the low property values compared to other states. Adios
Since land and construction will be much less expensive in NM than CA, the budget for the house in NM will go much further. Can we start thinking pool? Casita (mother-in-law apartment on property), spacious floor plan (please no more funky crammed up spaces like florida or sonoma), and wonderful working kitchen with actual cabinetry over head and a huge walk in pantry, a courtyard in front like the Santa Fe traditional homes, fountains, an herb garden, pistachio nut trees….. please make this a fantasy house and not just good-looking for the TV camera. Please make it a truly livable home. I get so excited! But the floorplans are so distorted against real life-living. Please make it real this time. Thanks for the dream!
Diana – Are they known as spiny lobsters? How are their tails…are they tasty?
Living the Dream!
I’m glad they are building the DH with a casita, they’re very popular in Az and NM…only problem…your guests don’t want to leave LOL
after looking at the phase 2 lots…the remaining 3 acre lots appear to be 79 & 80, and 85-98. I wonder which lot was selected?
http://www.sanpedrooverlook.com/purchase/san-pedro-overlook-phase-2/
I like the lots # 95,96,97 & 98, becausethe view to the mountains are unobstructed, and the open space means no lots behind you, but they are building phase 3 east of phase 2, just beyond the open space
Lynn Coggin Bella is an extremely small Chihuahua. She is excited about moving to New Mexico. She says she has relatives down there.
The dog story didn’t turn out well.
The fish & game people removed the alligator the next day. I don’t know what they did with it. There can be alligators any place there is enough water in Florida. The American Crocodiles though, only live in the brackish saltier water down in the Southern part of the state.
Diana, that’s quite a house! It looks a lot like one here in town they turned into a bed & breakfast.
Zaydrejo3, sorry it’s just a 3 bedroom. Of course it does have an office & a seperate casita. It does have your theatre room though. And I am sure it will have a patio. Don’t know about the pool.
Coop, I’ve got it! They can have the Design on a Dime Team decorate the house & give away a used car with it. Then we probably won’t hear about the taxes!!
the cheapest lot even has a nice view, this is going to be a great DH
http://www.sanpedrooverlook.com/purchase/homesites-for-sale/
Hey Ed in Oregon, maybe they will build the pueblo style with a courtyard in the center of the home, many hacienda style homes have that feature…even though my dog is bigger, she’s a boxer, I would worry about mountain lions, and coyote packs etc. so an interior couryard would be nice
Here’s a nice style with a really huge master suite
http://www.eplans.com/pueblo_house-plans/HWEPL10094.hwx
LYNN COGGIN= I don’t know if they are “spiny lobsters” or not, I’ve heard that term before—but I just don’t know either way.
1. I actually like Maine Lobster better.
2. The Florida Lobster Tails are very Tasty and Good—- but you Miss Out on the tasty claws and what they call the “caviar” of the lobster— which you only get from Maine Lobster.
3. I think that it’s best to Avoid eating any Lobster in the summer time. The waters are too warm– even in New England— and the lobster is very watery. One time, I ordered Maine Lobster in the summer— and it was squirting all over my clothes and jewelry— and was really messy!!!!!
By the way— I don’t think that the Green Home is anywhere near a canal— so don’t worry.
And I have a canal in my neighborhood. My house is not Right on it, but it’s right across Two lots over—- and I’ve Never Seen an Alligator. Believe me, they really just stay in the canals or lakes— but unfortunately, sometimes roam a little onto land
Diana
MAGGIE= Interesting that you should say that, Interesting Information. I was kind of wondering about that myself. The only places out west where I’ve been, are (Las Vegas and San Francisco– and Dallas ).— so don’t know much about the other states out west. Do know one thing for sure, you don’t mess with those cowboys in Nevada! But— I hope that it really isn’t true.
SAGG 99= I just Love Boxers— they are so cute. Gotta Love em’. I’m definitely a “dog person”, and just loved that cute beagle in Mary’s Quiz LOL LOL
Diana
A private pool is definitely NOT a good idea in New Mexico because water ownership (as well as there being enough) is an issue for residents throughout the state. But with so much to see and do, you won’t miss it.
Maggie, too bad your view of our great state is so negative. New Mexico not just filled with criminals, illegals, the poor. Every state has its poor areas, but San Pedro Overlook (and so many other places in NM) are fantastic places to live, work and play.
I’m thrilled the HGTV DH is being built in NM!
sagg99/sheilagg1, an interior portico would be nice. I wouldn’t worry about your boxer though. Our boxer in San Diego used to chase the coyotes off of our acreage. He even chased a mountain lion out of the pasture once. I always worried about him & rattle snakes though. The first day we were moving in our sons went out in the field to play by the creek. About an hour later they came back and our 6 year old was carrying a dead rattle snake. My wife didn’t believe it was a rattler, so I took a stick & pushed the gum back, this made the fangs stick out. She then believed our six year old. The funniest part though was when she promised him she would preserve it in a jar for him. She got a 1 gallon jar & put the snake in it. Then she poured alcohol in the jar. That’s when the snake moved & she jumped ten feet backwards out of the bathroom into the hallway. When I saw her she was against the hall wall mumbling incoherently “it’s alive it moved”. I calmed her down & got her to stop shaking. Then I explained to her that the snakes muscles were reacting to the alcohol and it wasn’t still alive. I finished filling the jar with alcohol & put the lid on. Then she was okay. We got a few outdoor cats after that & there were no more rattle snake problems. The next snake we saw was when my four year old was in the garden with me. He lifted his arm up & there was a snake latched on to his forearm. He pulled it off & said “look dad I caught a snake”. Luckly it was a California King Snake, so a little peroxide took care of the bite mark. He got to keep the snake in his bedroom for the next ten years. Only problem was that he would let the snake run loose sometimes. He was not a very neat kid & would throw his dirty clothes on the floor in a pile. On day my wife went in & picked up the clothes. You guessed it the snake was curled up under the pile! By this time the snake had grown to almost 6 feet! It kind of startled her. By this time, with 3 boys & lots of snakes, she just finished picking up the clothes & casually told Jason to go put the snake back in its cage!
I can’t wait to see the floorplan!
LynnCoggin, yes those are spiny lobsters in Florida. They also live in California. I always found spiny lobsters to be a little less tender than Maine Lobsters. They also don’t taste as sweet to me.
Diana what you probably got was a soft lobster. After lobsters molt they fill up their shells with water, so when the new shells harden they are larger. The larger shells give the lobster more room to grow before they have to molt again. You can get a soft lobster anytime of the year, not just in summer. Here in Oregon when I go crabbing I always test the crabs & throw back any soft ones. I hate that wet tasteless meat from a soft crab.
sagg99…Nice home…I’m diggin’ this one…
http://img.alibaba.com/photo/101525593/House_Plans_Home_Architecture_Interior_Decorator_Landscaping.jpg
Ed in Oregon – Too funny…three boys and the snakes…your wife is very brave! I always wanted my three sons…it took me five kids to get to them
Maryland has great crabs around the Chesapeake area but they are dwindling in numbers and the state is working hard to restore certain areas. Love crabs!
Diana – Glad to hear you are a few doors down from the water…although my son LOVES the Gators;))
Living the Dream!
Just in New Mexico they have alot of land nice place very rich in spirit. My wife and I loved sandia peak, Tesuque, Madrid and taos. we would love to ride our motorcycles out there plus mother in law lives in Santa Fe. Nice place Nick from Florida
ED= I am sure that you are 100% RIGHT!! It was a restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale— it was a nice restaurant— but sold them (buy one, get one free) type of deal. We never went back there again.
Ft. Myers is small town— and really no place to order lobster at a restaurant. Naples has a few good seafood restaurants though.
The BEST one that I ever had was at Todd English’s restaurant- in the Bellagio in Las Vegas— even had truffles sprinkled on it!!!
I LOVE Lobster— but unfortunately, unable to get it most of the time
Diana
LYNN COGGIN= You are talking about the Gators’ University of Florida, right????
ED= just read the blog about the Snake, that was so funny!!!!! Boys will be Boys
Diana
LYNN COGGIN= Just clicked on your link—- Really, Really Nice Home—- that sure is another DREAM HOME. Beautiful!!!! I sure could see myself living in that one—-
Be back later tonight
Talk later
Diana
Hi Diana…hahaha…yes, I am talking about the University of Florida…the only place we have ever seen real gators is in the zoo;)
Living the Dream!
LYNN COGGIN= That’s funny— cuz’ I don’t know of anyone that likes the gators’– I mean the real ones.
Where is that home from the link you posted??? or, (maybe not linked to a location—) It is Really, Truly a DREAM HOME!!!! Just Beautiful.
And to think, all this bloggin’ on lobsters, where did Cathy Lemar run off to?? Well, Ed gave us a lot of information anyways ( I think that he’s from Massachusetts)
Well, bought my lotto ticket—- yeah, always dreamin’
Be back later tonight
Diana
Hi again Diana. Here is the site…
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://img.alibaba.com/photo/101525593/House_Plans_Home_Architecture_Interior_Decorator_Landscaping.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.alibaba.com/product/mu102395573-101525593-0/House_Plans_Home_Architecture_Interior_Decorator_Landscaping.html&h=311&w=600&sz=51&tbnid=-gCx0fT7ICmeAM::&tbnh=70&tbnw=135&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dphotos%2Bof%2Bhouse%2Bplans&usg=__GC_O-tPwd_MBMSh-M-j3h2HFAt0=&ei=dncYSvDFLtnHtgeO_bDbDA&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=4&ct=image
Isn’t it great?!
Living the Dream!
First I’d like to thank Maggie for her insight. I can understand why you throw the soft, wet crabs back into the water, Ed, and sorry you had to be disqualified from the quiz upfront, but when you know the answers before they’re asked, all necessary precautions must be taken to protect the minds of the innocent.
Were the bells ringing and the lights flashing when you hit the post comment button, Cathy, immediately followed by Lynn?! Of course, Amy Coburn is the architect of the 2010 Dream Home. On to the next challenge.
Wow, Diana, that sure is one extreme Victiorian; almost as huge as the Southwestern on steroids I posted earlier. I love the semi-circular kitchen—how cool is that! Then there’s the dramatic master bedroom balcony, and the huge upstairs utility/laundry room. I love that third floor with the great guest suite, exercise room, even an art studio with its own rotunda. One thing that wasn’t clear, is that an elevator off of the Grand Hall? It wasn’t labeled, nor could I find anything written about an elevator. Perhaps it’s for mechanicals? I think that every mansion should have a creaky old elevator, especially haunted ones….
When it comes to ‘gators, one thing you’ll never find me doing is walking along the edge of a lake or creek in Florida! Those monsters wait just below the surface, and when they lunge, they’re a lot faster than we are. I have lots of respect for ‘gators and I keep my distance! As for the snakes, I’ve had my share of confrontations with rattlers too over the years here in Southern California, but never bitten, thank goodness. Any more, they’re rarely seen. As for the King snake, I came across a four footer a few years ago as I was clearing brush away from the boulders in the back yard. I had reached down to pull up a weed, and we more or less came face to face. Talk about a revelation!! I don’t know which one of us was more surprised, but neither one of us tried to strike—we both just quickly went our separate ways!
Sagg99/Sheilagg1, good lot choices. Next challenge will be tracking down the 2010 Dream Home lot. Maybe we can get MARY to give us some more number clues, but for lots this time instead of years. By the way, your house plan sure has presence! It looks even larger than its 3,953 square feet (about the same size as the actual Dream Home plan), and its got plenty to offer. I hope we get at least one dogwood tree (New Mexico dwarf version will do fine) in the Dream Home landscaping, or I’m going to be whining to MARY about it. Of course, there’ll be plenty of opinions expressed when the floor plan is unveiled, but I doubt we’ll have questions about a ground floor powder room this year.
I think it’s time for a Tequila Sunrise while I ponder the Dream Home challenges ahead of us….
Hmmm…Diana, I just sent a link to it but I think it was too long…let me try a different one…
http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/101525593/House_Plans_Home_Architecture_Interior_Decorator_Landscaping.html
Isn’t it fabulous?!
Living the Dream!
Nice home Lynn. Looks like some of the nicer homes in Rancho Bernardo Caliornia. The building codes there require all houses to have tile roofs.
Diana you’re right I am from MA. through CA to OR.
Hmmm…maybe I should have been able to figure out Dream Home 2010 by this article that was on the HGTV site not long ago…
http://www.hgtv.com/home-improvement/the-pueblo/index.html
Oh, well, gotta’ go out with the other moms
Have a nice night!
Living the Dream!
DB COOP= HA HA, yes– I told you, there should be an elevator. But I don’t think that it would be haunted— it’s a new house. But one thing for sure– maybe hear a lot of “noises” in that Grand Estate. You know, when I hear a noise in the house— I will maybe check out the 2 or 3 other rooms, look out the window, etc…. sure would get a lot of exercise in that house!!!
Now– I would think that there are ghosts in New Mexico— very old cities ( and I read something about this on the internet about some old hotel checking it out).
But, maybe Ghosts are everywhere. I personally, don’t believe in them— I really don’t. Driving from Tampa to Ft. Myers last week— I saw a business van that advertised (Ghost Surveillance Investigation)! I was Surprised.
When I have the time— I will tell you about my other “Favorites” with those house designs— may be a while though. Don’t think that I’ll get to it tonight— and have a busy week next week!!!
Diana
Getting back to the location reveal video for a minute, I THOUGHT that was Jack Thomasson I spotted hanging around the Burrito Co. Cafe in Santa Fe. Why not?—there’s nothing better than starting the day off with an Egg and Potato Wrap—potatoes, eggs, cheddar cheese, and choice of red or green chile wrapped in a flour tortilla. Yummm, I’m making myself hungry.
If you want native beauty mixed with great cuisine, along with some high-style pampering, treat yourself to a long weekend (or more) at La Posada de Santa Fe Resort and Spa.
And, the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway is just a hop, skip and a jump up the road from Sandia Park. It’s a whole other world up there!
You can even “go Native” (American Indian, that is) at the annual ‘Gathering of Nations’ pow wow in Albuquerque, the ‘Taos Pueblo Tribal Gathering’, and even a ‘Gathering for all Cultures’ in Santa Fe.
Whether it’s golfing, skiing, hiking, biking, shopping, dining, or just lounging by the pool sippin’ a Tequila Sunrise, I think Jack’s on to something great there in Sandia Park, New Mexico.
Now, as far as chiles, do I go Red Hot, or Green?
DB COOP= your descriptions sound enticing. As far as Chili’s- none of the above. I don’t like hot food. But, as I was watching (Iron Chef) tonight– one of the chef’s featured , was competing against the Iron Chef, and the chef was from New Mexico, cooking with chili peppers—- didn’t get to watch it though. Didn’t even catch what was the Main Ingredient either— had a little storm here, and the TV went out.
I think that I may reconsider that Victorian now. I was thinking, if I was on the First Floor in the Kitchen cooking—- and I heard someone on the Third Floor running on the Tread Mill— ( and Knowing that there is No One else in the house)—- I’d probably Freak Out— LOL
Have a Good Night Everyone— maybe I’ll plan on having eggs and something tomorrow– most likely with grits and bacon though.
Diana
Sounds good Coop. I had an egg burrito for breakfast this morning. Green or red hot it doesn’t matter. As long as I have a cup of hot tea or coffee to clear the capsin out of my mouth. I agree I think New Mexico would be an adventure, never been in the Carlsbad Caverns. Drove by them a few times. Besides my chihuahua says she has relatives down there, so I guess we’re ready to move.
ED= I just looked up (Carlsbad Caverns)— looks very different and beautiful to see— I’ve never been in a cave before! Someplace definitely to be on a “possible vacation list”.
New Mexico is very different, and it looks like, many nature things to see— keep mentioning things to do— I don’t know anything about NM.
Diana
I’m still here…just busier in the garden lately. Why do I thihnk I heard that the lot was on Turquoise Drive? Did I read it somewhere?
I am betting on Lot #103….new guessing game on! LOL But then again, I was stuck on Massachusetts – so don’t listen to me.
Then again maybe it is #71….has some acreage right?
CATHY LEMAR=
How’s this for a Dream Home—- when I saw it, I thought, OMG— this is totally Extreme. What do you think about this one??
http://www.architecturaldesigns.com/victorian-house-plan-8587ms.asp
DB Coop thinks a house this grand could wind up having ghosts— I don’t know, maybe— LOL
Diana B
holy hannah banana! – that is just plain gorgeous! I love log homes…I had one that I saved for a long time…was my dream home.
What have you got planned this holiday weekend Diana?
Although i think victorians are beautiful….it is not the type of house i would get on purpose….not my style.
CATHY= Not much— but busy today doing a few things and taking care of some work— have to go to Kinko’s later. ( I should have bought stock there—LOL )
I’ll be having a busy week— going to Tampa on Tuesday, and then to Ft. Lauderdale on Thursday for a few days and next weekend—- so later in the week, won’t be blogging. Don’t forget about me!!!
I’m going to a (Memorial Day) party next Saturday— it will be fun. I’ll see a friend that I haven’t seen in 10 years— he’s living in Sacramento now. So, it’ll be a fun weekend next weekend.
It’s a wet weekend here in South Florida
What about you?
Diana
Diana – sort of like this:
http://www.katahdincedarloghomes.com/dreamhomefloorplans_detail.cfm?id=787
CATHY= ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL—- That’s what I call a DREAM HOME—- nestled in the woods of Mass. or NH, right??? or is it Maine? It is beautiful country and scenery there. Of course, especially in the Fall—-
The Hennessey is Magnificant!!! I saved this site—- going to look more into it— but Probably the Following Week. I really am going to have a super busy week.
But check on the Blog the Following Monday— I’ll try to catch up with you, either way and tell you which is my “Favorite”!!!
I moved away from N.Y. when I was 9 years old— but my Dad has told me plenty of stories of us vacationing in R.I., and a “Log Cabin” area in N.H., too. And— has told me we went to Maine too!!!! I do remember the “Maine” vacation. We visited friends who were millionaires— and lived in a mansion. It’s funny how you remember certain things, but other things fade with memory, huh?
Diana
I would like to see a home in Arizona, Nevada, or maybe New Mexico…a one story with 4 bedrooms, 3baths, vaulted greatroom,
office, and of course a fantastic kitchen with granite and island.
Ed, thanks for the reminder about Carlsbad Caverns. I’ve been in a few other cave systems in the U.S. and foreign countries, but never in CC. It’s on my list now, along with updating my memories on a trip back to Santa Fe, Taos, and Sandia Park too.
That’s one grand cedar log home, Cathy. Plenty of space for everyone—a full-time home, or a very luxurious vacation home.
An interesting side note: Albuquerque and the East Mountain community of Sandia Park are in Bernalillo County, but contrary to what you’d assume, the Campbell Ranch homes of San Pedro Overlook are NOT! Just one of those oddities, but a little online research will tell you which county the development IS in. Better check into it; it’s a question MARY may be asking in an upcoming quiz….
In the meantime, you can read more about the Campbell Corporation and San Pedro Overlook at: http://www.campbellcorporation.com/san_pedro_overlook.htm
DB COOP= Thanks for the link. Maybe you could help us out— and do a little research. Maybe it will be in SANTE FE???
You know, you are the leader, and we are the followers—
So, how many (Tequila Sunrises) did you have last night??? I’m saving my stomach for next Saturday— probably have a Rum Runner or two at a party I’ll be going to HA HA HA HA
Going out for the day— Be back Late Tonight. Have a Nice Day Everyone— so glad that the NASA shuttle decided to land in California, instead, safely
Diana
I hope there will be a pool & hot tub in the backyard of the 2010 Dream Home.
Well, thanks for the vote of confidence, Diana, but I’m just following along like everyone else—waiting for tidbits of information from MARY, Jack, Linda, Gail, and crew. We are like lemmings rushing to the sea…well, in this case, the high desert. But what a great reward, ’cause the first one out of the hopper (computer) is the winner of a grandly designed and beautifully furnished Dream Home. Hey, I’ll be the first lemming to volunteer in that case!
As for Tequila Sunrises, despite my online bravado, I’m a light drinker. I’m fine with one, finished with two; unlike those party days of my misspent youth! I leave the heavy drinking to a younger generation, whose powers of recovery from excess are far better than mine. My overindulgence these days is usually limited to having a second glass of wine with dinner and some rich dessert that I could do without.
Well, back to my relaxing Memorial Day Weekend. Have to get ready for MARY’s much anticipated Tuesday marathon of mind-bending machinations and mischief.
I think this is a super place for the 2010 Dream Home!!!! Great choice from some wonderfully talented HGTV people!!! I can`t wait to move in. I Love You guys and all the wonderful shows you have to watch.
Carrie Mayes
I think New Mexico is wonderful I have lived here all my life and it is beautifl with so much history and beautiful sites. I am so excited you have chosen this location.
I ran across this article today and found it interesting…
CRYSTAL, N.M. – Gov. Bill Richardson has ordered flags at state buildings to be flown at half-staff to honor Navajo Code Talker John Brown Jr.
The 88-year-old Brown died at his home in Crystal, N.M., on Wednesday. He will be laid to rest on Tuesday.
Brown joined the Marines shortly after Pearl Harbor was bombed to start America’s involvement in World War II. He became part of an all-Navajo platoon assigned to create the code used to help win the war.
There were several hundred Code Talkers but Brown was among the original group that crafted the code.
After his military service, Brown was a 20-year member of the Tribal Council.
…May he rest in peace.
Living the Dream!
I’m guessing the home site for the DH is lot #80, the view from that lot is similar to the view shown on the blog video…and the lot is listed as sold on the developer’s website ;D
Hi there sagg99/sheilagg1! I agree…it does look like it sould be #80. In the video, Jack says that is on over 3 acres and there is Lot #87 which is a little over 3 acres but I can’t see the photo for that one…can you? It doesn’t say sold on it either. Very exciting!
W. – I’m with you on the hot tub and pool idea! With the beautiful views as the backdrop, a grand Dream Party would be in order.
Marie Miller – I hope you’re enjoying your company…I miss hearing from you
Diana – You sound pretty busy also…sorry to hear it’s a little wet in your neck of the woods.
DBCoop – Glad to hear you are relaxing this weekend! You know I should be doing that also so that I can be on my game Tuesday morn:) I’m busy cleaning out all of the closets in my house and switching up the winter gear for the summer wardrobe…so glad I won’t have to do that in New Mexico next year when I come out of the hopper
Cathy Lemar – Now that’s a log home there! Very cool! Love it! Being a realtor, I see a lot of the same old, same old, so I really do appreciate different types of homes.
Anyway, off to the next closet…ugh!!!!!
Living the Dream!
Yikes…spell check sure would come in handy
I love this choice! I grew up and graduated in Taos. It’s a beautiful place! And the smell of sagebrush and New Mexico Green Chili, oh, I miss it! When can we start signing up???
Glad to finally see the spot of Dreamhome 2010. I am always excited whereever it is, we have so many beautiful options in the USA.
I am anxiously waitng for the next video and ready to enjoy the beautiful home along with it’s decor. 3 acres, WOW
o.k. DBCoop this is what I found out…
Phase One of Campbell Ranch OK’d
By Lee Ross
Mountain View Telegraph
The first 92-home section of the Campbell Ranch development was approved by the Edgewood Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday night.
Opposition is being expressed by neighboring residents, however, and possible legal hurdles have cropped up.
After considerable discussion and a 10-minute closed session, a preliminary plat for the roughly 45-acre section on the southern part of Campbell Ranch was approved unanimously.
Campbell Ranch is an 8,000-acre master-planned community east of N.M. 14 and north of Frost Road. The area was annexed by the town of Edgewood in 2001.
San Pedro Overlook is apart of Edgewood Town, which is in Santa Fe county, I’m going to check the tax rolls to see if I can find the lot
sagg99/sheilagg1, it’s still a bit murky to me, but from the maps and info I’ve read online, the Campbell Ranch developments of San Pedro Creek and San Pedro Overlook run through a little slice of the Southeast corner of Sandoval County (adjoining Santa Fe County to the East, and Bernalillo County to the South). If you Google “San Pedro Overlook Sandoval County”, it will bring up the info.
As the article you posted points out, it’s still possible the Edgewood connection holds, despite the mapped County boundaries. Very interesting…and happy hunting!
By the way, another news article I read said that some potential issues (water related) for Phase III of San Pedro Overlook have been overcome, and approval granted to move forward.
PS: San Pedro Overlook is located on the North/northWEST side of NM 14 (known as Turquoise TRAIL) rather than the east side. Due to the size of the Campbell Ranch lands, some of the companies developments may well run into Santa Fe County (as far as other earlier projects are concerned.)
On Google Earth, San Pedro Overlook is in its early stages. The one labeled street is the entry access road, “Squirrel Trail”, which apparently has been renamed Turqoise DRIVE.
I’m sure Jack Thomasson will be able to straighten it all out for us….
Okay, timeout for dinner, a Tequila Sunrise, and spa time…that should say “some of the companY’s developments”, and “has been renamed TurqUoise DRIVE”.
Good grief!
Thanks DBCoop, I’ve seen the gatehouse, and the clubhouse on the satellite map, you’re right it could be Sandoval, or Santa Fe county the boundaries are sketchy…
Sandoval County…right?
Living the Dream?
P.S. Not Orange County?!?!?! LOL!
Hello again
I found you here guys, I’m so tire now , I’ll find something to say yours for tomorrow
LIVE LIFE DREAM BIG ON HGTV DREAM HOMES
Hi Everyone!!! DB Coop, you always make me laugh. Lynn Coggin— yes, I’ll have a busy week this week. Going out of town twice— Tomorrow and then on Thursday for the Weekend—- I hope my ‘blogging buddies’ don’t forget about me!!!!
Still have to catch up on the blogs— but I have some EXCITING news!!!! Honestly, at first I wasn’t into this New Mexico thing, ( I really wanted Virginia)—but I think that I had it all wrong. I’m realizing now— this is just something “totally different”.
I spoke with my friend (who now lives in Sacramento)— so he’s a ‘West-Coaster’ now. When I asked hime about New Mexico— he Moaned, and said, ” OH, it is Just Beautiful— Absolutely Beautiful”— and he said, ” There are a Lot of Nice Homes there”—So as a West-Coaster, he should know. He’s also traveled a lot!!!
Maybe I’ll go ahead and try some of that Chili— LOL ( I don’t know if I’ll go that far!!!)
Have a Nice Day Everyone
Diana
It will definitely be an exciting southwest dream home this year…
Wow!
I am THRILLED to know the new dream house location! I was born in Santa Fe, raised in Albuquerque, and it’s my DREAM to move back! Sandia Park is an EXCELLENT location choice! I hope the designers incorporate a horse barn on the property…great place to ride.
Although I like New Mexico location and the revel was supurb, I’m am left wondering when Alaska is going to be given a fighting chance. Now don’t jump to the old stero typical “it’s too cold”, it gets much colder in Cape Cod than Anchorage or the Kenai pennisula ever gets.
I have disconnected my television and computer so absent for some time. Family spending time with each other and not technology, even for a family that spent little time with either the amount of time we truly did spend on the computer and television was amazing. Glad to be rid of both.
Not thrilled with New Mexico location and especially with another gated community; but will set a person up for several years after they sell it to build their true dream home and that is important. While I am sure the house is going to be spectacular, I along with other posting personalities, will continue to dream of their dream home in their dream location.
Hope everyone had a great memorial day weekend and had lots of time to spend with family and friends. As a mother of children in Iraq, please support our troops and their families, no matter how you feel about the conflicts going on in the world.
This is an interesting news article relating to the beginning of property sales for the San Pedro Overlook development. The project lies on a slice of land within Sandoval County, and the County seat is the town of Bernalillo (which, to confuse matters, is NOT in Bernalillo County). It seems to be all about making it as confusing as possible (like I need any help in that arena)!
In an article dated April 2002 (regarding opening of sales for Phase I):
San Pedro Overlook is the first subdivision in a larger resort community located in Sandoval County. When completed, San Pedro Overlook will feature 102 custom home lots on 525 private, enclosed acres of pristine land on the eastern slope of the Sandia Mountains between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_2002_April_11/ai_84672880/
Have a peaceful Memorial Day, y’all.
Coop,
That’s a great article! Very informative. I think you will enjoy San Pedro Overlook and the amenities in the area. When you get tired of that location, a trip to your home overseas would be refreshing. San Diego is no slouch either. Either way, you will be refreshed!
Have a great day!
Thanks, Lessie. I think that San Pedro Overlook, (SPO LLC) is a masterful site location with great natural beauty. I have to admit, though, that if I had a home there, I would also be spending a lot of time in Santa Fe, which has so many things to offer from and for a diverse mix of cultures.
Besides, I enjoy the weather there, and love the range of architectural styles, both indigenous and imported, and how they have been adopted and adapted for modern living.
Anyway, just checking in to see if MARY had posted the floor plans yet.
Hey, you never know, our Senior Editor is always full of surprises!
I have been up on the internet looking at floorplans for Pueblo Style Homes, and I love them! But I cannot decide which I like best, a ranch or a 2-story. The ranch style seemed large and spacious, while the 2-story had a wonderful sunny balcony. One thing is for certain though, New Mexico is the best location that HGTV has ever chosen!
I cannot wait to see the floorplans for 2010. I have always liked the Pueblo/Adobe look. It is my favorite. I am very happy to see that the community is private and gated, the clubhouse has a fitness room, there are hiking trails within the community, and horseback riding nearby, etc. It is truly going to be a Dream Home!
Mary I think you should have them send you to the 4th of July celebration and balloon festival between Albq and Sandia (outskirts of town) so you can report on one of the great festivals Albq offers….. it will get people excited. I love that festival! You could stop in and film the progress of the building site and show us the site and floorplan. Also, will the home come with a pet spiny lizard dragon thingy? That would be fun. No doggie dream home this year, but a lizard-dragon dream home.
Just in case you might be so inclined to join in, or perhaps cheer on those across the finish line, make haste because the race is about to begin: http://www.cabq.gov/mayor/news/great-race-down-the-rio-grande
I have been entering the contest. My computer reset. I spent 25 minutes trying to locate the contest enter site.
Hello again
LIVE LIFE DREAM BIG ON HGTV DREAM HOMES
NOW THIS IS THE FIRST HOME i THOUGHT IS A DREAM HOUSE.i AM 77 AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN IN LOVE WITH THE FARM HOUSE.I USE TO LOVE TO GO TO MY GRAMPA FARM FOR THE SCHOOL VACATIONS.i LOVED THE FRESH FRUIT AND VEGES.GRAMMA USE TO SAY GO GET WHAT YOU WANT FOR SUPPER AND THAT WAS FOR DESERT TO.MY WIFE IS IN BAD SHAPED AND WOULD LOVE TO SPEND HER LAST DAYS ON A PLACE LIKE THIS.MY KIDS COULD COME AND VISIT.WE DON,T HAVE THE ROM NOW WE LIVE IN A MOBILE HOME.WE HAVE 8 KIDS,24 FRAND KIDS AND 14 GREAT GRAND KIDS AND WE COULD ALL GET TOGATHER HERE.THIS IS TRULY MY DREAM HOUSE.THANK YOU.JOE REYNOLDS
Good morning. I just found out that my neighbor is moving to New Mexico. It’s so strange because I never knew that much about New Mexico and now while researching the history, cultures, cities of New Mexico through this blog, my neighbor is moving there…weird
I have never known anyone that lived there…hmmmm…maybe we will be neighbors again someday?
Living the Dream!
While I am sure New Mexico is a beautiful place to be, give me the cold of the midwest anyday. I don’t even care to visit places where the temps can go over 80 for most of the year. I just plain and simple don’t like any type of hot weather.
I think though a one-story home is the way to go for this dream house because of the large retirement community that must be in the area.
Marie Miller—Would you please give me and the dream home planners, the website you listed a week or two ago that showed the plan for a beautiful Santa Fe/Adobe style home? It had color pictures showing double carved beams with corbels. It was fabulous and exactly the kind of “dreamy” home I hope they will build in NM. Thanks!
There are so many beautiful locations to build the 2010 HGTV Dream home. One thing is for sure, wherever it is going to be completed will be a truly wonderful location. As demonstrated in the past, all the prior homes had gorgeous locations. If I were to win I think I would be speechless for a few minutes! I would give Thanks to the good fortune bestowed upon me since I have never owned a home in my life and I am 52 years old. It’s hard to be a homeowner in New York, much less Long Island, where I’m from.
Wow! New Mexico! I never have thought about moving to that area. After watching Jack’s video, it is simply gorgeous. With that amount of sun and mild weather, what’s not to love? The history, architecture, culture, etc. is fantastic. It seems like it has been one of the best kept secrets in our U.S.! I don’t think I would ever win the home, but I can’t wait to visit this beautiful state someday soon. I will enter and I hope the home this year will be more family orientated.
sagg99/sheilagg1 you are very good as are so many of you! Your view choices are fantastic and when I arrived here at SPO on February 27 of 2009 I couldn’t wait to get started. This place is a gem! The views in Phase 2 are of the six mountain ranges and everday when I drive around the community the inspiration is ever present. The community is literally 30 minutes from the ABQ airport and getting to shopping, especially groceries and local dining is a ten minute drive at most. The locals here on the East Mountains are great people. Very laid back and the service is remarkeable. We are updating our site as to the available homesites as there are only 9 remaining in phase 2 and one remaining in phase 1. This blog is truly incredible and thank you for all the kind words, it makes us, the developer/builder/architect team feel even better and believe even more. BTW- I am enjoying the 350+ days of sunshine here in Sandia Park! Enjoy.
Why can’t non US residents apply for the Dream Home Giveaway????
Good afternoon everyone…my, it is a bit quiet on the blog today. Is everyone recouping from the holiday weekend?
Collegemom – I know you like cooler weather but I thought I would share this information regarding the Dream Home 2010 location in New Mexico. The East Mountain Area boasts four mild seasons. Clear mountain air and about 300 days of sunshine a year allow for plenty of time for outdoor activities. With an average of 32 inches of snow per year skiers and snowboarders can look forward to great mountain conditions. The East Mountain area is about 7 degrees cooler than Albuquerque.
Other information, some of which has already been mentioned: San Pedro Overlook is a populated place located in Sandoval County at latitude 35.224 and longitude -106.279. The elevation is 6,532 feet. Nestled along the Turquoise Trail, between the Monte Largo Mountains and the Sandias, residents of this unique gated community are treated to stunning 360-degree views that include Northern New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains, which are the southernmost subrange of the Rocky Mountains.
I also found a live webcam of the historic area of Santa Fe. It is located about 34 miles from San Pedro Overlook… http://www.santafeinformation.com/. It’s pretty cool as it updates the surrounding area every few seconds.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day and I look forward to reading more of your comments!
Living the Dream!
College mom, you can go to the weather channel website and look at the average temperatures etc. for Sandia, or AlbQ, and see that it’s not so bad. Summer days can get really warm but it’s a dry heat so not so bad. I’ve been to Minnesota, Oklahoma, KS, MO, etc. in the Summer with the humidity, and it’s far worse than NM. And the evenings cool off so wonderfully in NM. Check it out, I bet you’ll change your mind. Besides, you’ll just learn to find a shade tree and take a siesta in NM when it gets too hot. (In a dry climate all you have to do is get out of the sun and into the shade and it’s complete relief from the heat, very different from the humid climates of the midwest and south where there is NO relief from the miserable heat)
http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USNM0286?from=tenDay_bottomnav_undeclared
There are indeed a lot of retirees in the Southwest; many of them are snowbirds who have flown the coop and moved in permanently after just one or two visits, turning in their snow shovels for sun shades. Thankfully, as it turns out, it’s not for everyone.
The economic downtown has also brought migration from colder climes to a virtual standstill, as folks are either unable to sell their homes elsewhere to move, or have chosen to stay put until the economic uncertainties work themselves out.
Regardless, the HIGH desert is not for the cold-hearted, even though temps are far more moderate than most people believe. Albuquerque averages mid-summer highs at about 90, while the LOW desert areas of Southern California can easily reach over 100 on a day-to-day basis, although with very low humidity.
So much for the weather report. On the building front, for those with curious minds, building permits for San Pedro Overlook (SPO) are issued by the State of New Mexico, Construction Industries Division, with input from Sandoval County’s Building and Planning Department. Fascinating process, but that’s as much as I care to know about it!
Now, I wonder when we’ll be seeing those floor plans pop-up online, compliments of MARY and our site-selector Jack Thomasson. Contemporary Pueblo sounds interesting, and I can’t wait to see how all the elements of the original Pueblo style are brought together and married to the modernist mold in an eco-friendly fashion.
I bet Linda Woodrum is already gearing up to bring us HGTV’s first Southwest surprise. ¡Ay chihuahua, we’re going to get some sizzle out of this one for sure!

MARY…We are so looking forward to more information from you! Contemporary Pueblo…very exciting! Being a realtor from Pennsylvania, I am ecstatic about this location and this style home…we certainly don’t have any architecture like that around here
Great…no…FABULOUS location Jack!
Linda…Can’t wait to see what southwestern gems you have for us this year!
Living the Dream!
DBCoop,
While researching, look into the alien and jack rabbit stories because Sante Fe and the surroundidng communities abound with area 51 and alien stories.
Albuquerque and Santa Fe are so laid back that it reminds me of hippies–free-spirited pipe lovers. But of course that’s not everyone, just some. I’ve met some really neat people there who absolutely love and prefer New Mexico above any other place in the world.
If you like jazz, there’s a great Indian band that performs in the open area of the shopping district. Or should I say when I was there so were they.
Enjoy your research!
My idea of snow for recreational purposes is more than 200 inches. That is snow.
I am sure this is going to be a wonderful housesite though and can hardly wait like Coop said to see the plans.
Collegemom,
More than 200 inches of snow!!! Don’t go to the diynetwork.com site because you definitely won’t find that much snow at the blog cabin.
You are very vibrant! I don’t think a snow loving cave-woman could beat you in a challenge.
Seriously, I’m glad that you’ve found the person place for you and your family. If you should win the HGTV sweepstakes, I now you’ll make the best and most practical use of the money from the sell of the home.
Have a super great day!!!
Collegemom,
I responded to your post but it’s awaiting moderation. Don’t know exactly what I’ve said that sparked the wait.
But in the third paragraph, it should read, “I’m glad you found the perfect (not person) place for you and your family.”
I am so excited about the 2010 Dream Home! I love the Albuquerque/Sandia Park area and have been planning on moving there when my stepsons graduate high school in June of 2010. I am a subscriber to the Albuquerque magazine and often view real estate and employment opportunities.
I think this is a sign from Heaven and I can’t wait to win this home! Seriously!
Thanks for the local information Lynn. My husband and I plan on coming out to view the area in a couple of months. We now live in Southern CA, North Orange County. I love the weather here, but can’t wait to have the wide open spaces!
Lessie, There shouldn’t be any wait on this blog. I never experienced one.
It is nice to have such an interest and nice people to blog with here.
I wonder, was the adobe house the one that we were told was going to be built or have we assumed that because of the location?
I can’t wait til all of the 2009 hgtv dream and green homepages are off so we can start blogging on the dh 2010 blog site. I want to see what the house is going to look like and linda hide those chocolate kisses!!!!!
collegemom – The style of the house was mentioned in the video by Jack, I believe. It is a Contemporary Pueblo, which is one of the designs allowed in San Pedro Overlook. Here are the particulars on from the site…
The Contemporary Pueblo architectural style refers to a building whose interpretive forms are historically or stylistically based on the vernacular local building type.
I agree with Lessie and, also, am glad you found the perfect place for your family.
Lessie – I had a comment ‘awaiting moderation’ earlier so I tried to shorten it and post it again and it worked. I am not sure if it was the length or that I had a link to a website…or both?!?!?!
Mary – We miss you
Hope to hear from you tomorrow!
Living the Dream!
In the U.S, even just a few decades ago, Adobe was less of a style than a type of building material. Obviously, in the “old days”, adobe was used especially in the Southwest for its insulating properties, (aside from being readily available) but it’s not a sound structure in earthquake zones. Traditional Adobe is a natural building material made from sand, clay, and water, with some kind of fibrous or organic material (sticks, straw) added to bind and strengthen it.
“Modern” adobe is another thing: it’s often made into “bricks”, or mixed with other newer, insulating, eco-friendly materials to make a solid and energy efficient building.
Sometimes its even applied like “stucco” to brick or stick-built homes, giving the look of an original adobe structure without the inherent disadvantages of adobe alone.
Any Southwest style, whether Pueblo (Old/Revival/Contemporary), Territorial, Santa Fe, Ranch or Hacienda can all be built using “modern abode” exteriors and/or interiors.
According to Jack Thomasson, the 2010 Dream Home will be built in a Contemporary Pueblo style. Whether or not some type of energy efficient “modern abode” building material is used, or actual stucco material (applied to resemble the “adobe look”) is used, well, that’s something the folks at HGTV, and builder Mark Roccaforte might keep under wraps for a while longer.
Thanks Coop for the ever important update. I missed the post when it mentioned going to be contemporary pueblo style. Should be beautiful and hope and corresponds with its neighbors. Signing off for the night, going to go on a hike with kids.
Interesting: towards the end of my previous post, twice I reversed the letters in Adobe, and spelled Abode instead! Oh well, just overlook it please…
okay, when will we get details about the house? because its been a while and nothing new has come out about it. urgh
Not for a long time. Look how long it took for them to finnaly tell us the location.
My comment from 5:24PM is awaiting moderation so sorry if it is posted twice…in the meantime, Coop answered the same question I answered about the Contemporary Pueblo so, anyway, I’m glad it was answered
Living the Dream!
I can’t believe the 2010 Dream Home will be near Albuquerque. I was raised there and yearn for those hauntingly beautiful Sandies. I would give anything to live there and be able to look at them once again. Looking forward to following the progress of the new dream home.
I keep hearing about ‘wating for moderation’ on a few of the recent posts. What are you referring to. As soon as I click on post comment, I see my comment.
Is there a clitch somewhere in the system?
Just caught up on reading this blog. Wow, so much information.
Ed: Loved your story about your boys and the snakes. I dub you “wild life expert”. Now, tell us about any deadly spiders in New Mexico. I’ll be brave. Even BRAVER if I win the DH2010.
Coop: You mentioned “lounging by the pool”. Could there really be a private pool in New Mexico? Or any pool in New Mexico? Will have to explore all those links later when I have time. But Pueblo sounds just fine and contemporary…..what else from Jack T and Linda W. Turquoise is my favorite color. Is that a good sign? I’ve traveled several time to California, Arizona, Colorado, and far too many times to Florida, but I’ve always wanted to visit Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico. I love the location chosen!
Lessie: Jazz? What shopping district? Where were you?
I raise a salute to Code Navajo Talker, John Brown Jr. and his fellow Talkers. What an amazing job they did.
OK, Mary, take your time on the floor plans, I’m going to be out of town for several days. I can wait for them until I get back. Ouch, ouch. bloggers are throwing nasty things at me. OK, Mary, any time you’re ready…..Floor plans, please.
Oh beware, Katydid, the slings and arrows of outrageous bloggers…I’m glad you came to your senses and informed MARY that we’re ready for the house plans anytime now. Otherwise, what were we supposed to do while you’re off and running about for several days, play tiddlywinks, or Chutes and Ladders?!
I don’t know if they’ll do a pool because water at SPO is drawn from a well system, but a “spool” might be okay. In Southern CA, the term “spool” is used to describe a combination small pool/spa. It’s still refreshing, but a lot less wasteful of resources than a full-size pool and separate spa. Water is so precious, especially in the Southwest, so individual pools are becoming much smaller and even less common in the newest of homes.
We all have much to be thankful for, as you mentioned, Katydid, with the years of invaluable service that Navajo Code Talker John Brown Jr and many others gave to this country.
I think MARY would have done fairly well too, considering how she led us around the country from one state to another with all those devious clues. I STILL have ongoing nightmares about those three eyes staring me in the face, and I keep dreaming I’m typing “Google” into the URL box, and trying desperately to hit the “enter” button on my keyboard, but struggle as I might, I can’t get my fingers to move! Then I wake with a start; sweating, my heart pounding—and the rest of the day I’m totally exhausted….
Anyone else experiencing Dream Home Residual Anxiety Trauma (DHRAT)?
WOW! New Mexico , pretty exciting i would love to move to Mexico better learn the language who knows i might win, by the way, love the shirt.
The luxurious Community Center offers a gathering place for residents. Graciously appointed with a pool, spa, outdoor lyceum, kitchen, multi-purpose room and library, this is the perfect location for community functions and family celebrations. A mail center offers convenient access to standard US postal delivery service.
A “spool” would work for me too!
Living the Dream!
i know it took a long time for her to finally reveal the location, but at least she gave us hints every day. i mean she hasnt posted anything about it for 5 days which is starting to irritate me.
Thanks for pointing out the jack rabbit/ alien New Mexico connection, Lessie.
I understand that there are four species of jack rabbits in North America, and three of them are found in New Mexico.
The same cannot be said of aliens, which apparently only come in one species, primarily around Roswell, New Mexico. They appear as futuristic beings with enormous almond-shaped eyes, large back-swept craniums, and no visible ears.
While jack rabbits can be destructive in the garden, I’d prefer their visits to those of the alien variety any day (or night). With that in mind, let’s hope that SPO has been found to be an alien-free zone.
DBCoop,
Good assessment! New Mexico is a great place and the food is excellent.
Anyone who visits will love it, even if it’s not a place they’d want to stay.
Hopefully I’ll get to see the Dream Home when I visit in November. Will let you know if I see any of those sneaky aliens or monster jack rabbits.
Katydid,
I think I was in the square in Albuquerque. There’s all kinds of entertainment and shopping. The jazz was excellent! So was the shopping. Santa Fe is just as great. Haven’t been to Taos.
Does the home come equipped with 12 ft. razor wire fencing and a 50 caliber machine gun on the roof?
I would really like to visit this Dream Home! New Mexico is just beautiful!! Just like DH09, the developer said they will by back the home from the winner if they want.
Win-win situation!!

My message in awaiting moderation! OK…who was naughty and we have to go back to THAT!!!!!
Maybe because I have a link attached to it
Aha!!!! They are not letting LINKS through!!!!
Good morning lovelykitty. Is it the links, the length, or both that do that? Sometimes links go through no problem. I know you have been blogging longer than I have so I’m curious to know your thoughts. Thanks!
Living the Dream!
Morning all! Just wanted to drop in and see what is going on and stay in touch. We have gone from 90s to 30s,40s and 50s here and I think I am in hibernate mode again. LOL….. Contemporary pueblo style….can’t wait to see the plans!!!
Have a great day everyone!
Hello everyone!! I truly hope you all have Memorial Day Festivities “hang-overs!!” My family (and company) have left & my nest feels empty again..which feels good to some extent, but I always feel let down after everyone leaves!!
I am so behind with all the blogs, so I will rely on Coop to bring me up to speed with the important data…Coop (you can skip the jack rabbit information ’cause I did just read about that), but what else has been going on in my absence? Do we have the right Pueblo plans picked out for the next Dream Home?
Was at over 90 the other day but a cool 40 this morning. Amazing what weather can do in some places. A contemporary pueblo house could be anything. Boy the choices are endless and if you go on the internet, you will be bombarded with house plans from all over. Given the past houses, I think they will pick the best they can find and make it amazing.
Not sure if I would want a spa/pool at the property or not. We like to mingle with neighbors and though it would be nice maybe just a jacuzzi in the master bath would be more our speed. I don’t want to have to pay the added insurance and worry about neighbor kids getting into, draining and maintaining, etc. would rather have the yard. I love the look of the desert yards have seen with natural plants and little yard to mow if any because it is mostly outdoor space under canapy, desert plants with pathways around, etc. No mowing would be wonderful in my world. This seems like the perfect location to incorporate the paved pathways with little to no mowing involved on the property and leave natural–though that may be a green yard, who knows
I hope this house has at least a separate living space for elderly (or those at home college kids) on the main floor and possibly a master suite on the other side of the house, if two story. I know there is the option of an elevator, but why bother if you can accommodate a elderly living space (no stove) and a master suite on the same floor?
This type of property would be lovely with a patio in the front of the house incorporating not just the back yard. When I think of New Mexico I think of sitting on the patio (one in front and back) and enjoying a good book and a lemonade.
You know we all love the houses they have built without exception so maybe our input and thoughts a moot point at this juncture, fun to think about though.
A perfect dream house would incorporate separate living areas on opposite sides of a house, double grand staircase to bedrooms and bathrooms on the upper floor, a music room, a lilbrary, at least three bathrooms, lots and lots of windows with blinds or some kind of natural pull-down coverings, a kitchen with at least two workstations and two each of each appliance, a laundry room with two washers and three dryers, a mud room off the front and back entrances, attached garage along with separate garage for the band to practice, at least one office, a rec room, a television viewing area (not noticeably so though), and, of course, the all-important location of my dreams.
Fun to dream but reality is a small house with one bathroom and a kitchen with a full size refrigerator is more than most the world has. My daughters went to Africa and all the homes (even middle class ones) have what we would call ‘college dorm refrigerators’ in their 7 foot kitchen and no stoves just hotplates. This is the lap of luxury for most there.
So to dream of house the size we know is going to be built here is unbelievable to most of the world, and the way the economy is going is starting to seem over-the-top for some Americans also.
good morning everyone, and to collegemom, HGTV is building the DH with a casita! it is ususlly seperate from the rest of the house, it has a bedroom, bath, closet space, and a kitchenette…perfect for a college aged child, older relative, or visiting guests
this floor plan is not a pueblo style, but it shows the casita concept
http://www.eplans.com/spanish_revival_house-plans/HWEPL10964.hwx
collegemom – I read on the newswire where they released the HGTV Dream Home 2010 information that the home will include be a contemporary Southwestern Pueblo-style dwelling features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a home office, home theater, gourmet kitchen and guest casita. So, the guest casita should be great for the elderly or for you children who are home from college.
I have two grown sons and a daughter in college so it would be perfect for me also!
BTW, my daughter lived in Africa for 14 weeks last year so I know what you’re talking about as far as the homes in Africa. She was in South Africa teaching field hockey to kids in need in a very low income area school. How about your children? It was a great experience for our daughter.
Hope this helps!

Hahahahahaha…PERFECT Coop!
Living the Dream!
P.S. Missed you Marie…glad you had a great weekend!
http://albuquerque.bizjournals.com/albuquerque/stories/2009/05/18/daily60.html
Lynn, Two of my daughters have been in South Africa, near Capetown, for a year each with a couple daughters visiting for two weeks, high school hated that–but room and board was paid for so they went. They all loved it and came home with a better understanding of the rest of the world living conditions and how truly blessed it is to have a bathroom, separate sleeping quarters, a separate house for a family, and just plain freedoms we enjoy here.
WE all want to see the floor plans but how long does that usually take after they reveal the location, Coop?
Marie Miller — would you please give me and the house planners the website that you mentioned a couple weeks ago? (Not the most recent one you posted) It was a Santa Fe/Adobe style house with actual color pictures and had double wooden posts with corbels. It was fabulous and a perfect dream home for NM. Great taste! Thanks!
Hey Jules,
Are you part of the HGTV Dream Home staff? If so, Marie definitely has great taste so her suggestions should be considered.
But, if you like blogger’s input, I think a great way to encourage positive sharing is for HGTV to invite Marie Miller and DBCoop on an all-expenses paid trip to the Green Home presentation. They will give us detailed information on ALL that happens. Of course Renee loves and lives Green will be in the area by that time so she should come too.
Don’t you think that’s a great suggestion?
If there are any doubts in your mind, ask Gail and Mary about us. We’re HGTV’s greatest fans!
Lessie good comment. We do not know who Jules is and she is not part of the Amy/Mark/Jack/Linda/San Pedro Overlook staff…
Well, Collegemom, in consulting the rules according to Hoyle, the HGTV game plan can vary from year to year, (depending on the alignment of the design stars) so there’s not much to go on other than wild speculation, rumors, or reading the tabloids as to when the floor plan will be revealed. (Much like life in general, in other words.)
As the saying goes, it could be “from now until senility….” No, wait, that should read “from now until irregularity”; no, that’s not it either—”irritability???”. Oh heck, how does that phrase go? I can tell it’s going to take me an eternity to come up with the right word, so I’ll just leave y’all with this: we won’t know the floor plan until we get a glimpse of the writes of MARY’s ayes in a new blog thread. (In other words, it’s kind of like being blindfolded and playing “pin the eye on the noggin”—your guess is as good as mine.)
The short answer for “when do we get to see the house plans” is: only MARY knows for sure, and you can bet SHE’s not telling, yet!
Hey Y’all,
Mary’s posted a new blog, “Share Your Thoughts,” on the Green Home site.
It’s a poll to state your favorite features of the Living Room, Lounge, Screened-in Porch, Child’s bedroom, Guest Bedroom, and the Sitting Room. Please don’t be afraid to click on other to list your favorite feature if it’s not mentioned.
It will be interesting to see the results of the poll.
Enjoy!
Hi everyone. I’m sort of new to this blogging and definitely not on staff at HDTV or any other staff — just a fellow blogger. I love the southwest and hope to get back there in three years after finishing my (most recent) college degree. I looked and looked for the first house plan that Marie mentioned but couldn’t find that blog — can anyone else or Marie help? Good luck to you all!
Lessie…Thanks for keeping us updated on Mary’s new blog! It was a fun little quiz to do during my mid-afternoon slump
Living the Dream!
Welcome Jules,
Glad to have you on this blog. When Marie reads your post, I’m sure she’ll answer your question.
Coop,
What a great catcher-upper post for Marie. You’ve got a way with words! Loved your quote because all three could apply BUT…
MARY,
You won’t let that happen to us, will you? We need a fix! The 2010 Dream Home floor plans will calm us down and make us happy until the next time that is.
The 2010 Dream Home floor plans will definitely make us smile.
Don’t you want to make us smile today? Yes you do! So do what’s in your power to keep your bloggers happy!!
Convince your boss, Jack, Linda and the HGTV 2010 Dream Home staff to post the floor plans bright and early tomorrow morning. If you do, you’ll be able to sleep like a baby tonight.
Sweet dreams!
I’ve got another awaiting moderation post! I know it’s time to take a break. My computer must be too hot!
I have always loved the west, I love the Native American Culture. I have been told that one of my Great,Great,Grandfathers were married to three different native American women.
I had made a note to look at the details of this link that Marie had posted earlier. If you didn’t see it before, you might want to take a look (or a second look) at Marie’s Southwest beauty: just add the www. to the following copy and paste URL, architecturalhouseplans.com/home_plans/124
or Google “Architectural House Plans Santa Fe Splendor” and look for the SF Splendor tab at the end of the article.
This is a 4,987 square foot beauty, a sample of Marie Miller’s trained eye and good taste.
Enjoy!
Sorry, I’m trying again—not easy to avoid the “awaiting moderation” deep freeze when trying to direct folks to a link!
I had made a note to look at the details of this link that Marie had posted earlier. If you didn’t see it before, you might want to take a look (or a second look) at Marie’s Southwest beauty: just add the www (dot) to the following copy and paste URL, architecturalhouseplans.com/home_plans/124
or Google “Architectural House Plans Santa Fe Splendor” and look for the SF Splendor tab at the end of the article.
This is a 4,987 square foot beauty, a sample of Marie Miller’s trained eye and good taste.
Enjoy! Don’t everybody run out and build the same plan at once, though.
For the fine art collectors among us, or for those with an eye for fine art, according to an email received from Santa Fe (dot) Org:
“The city is gearing up to host SOFA WEST: Santa Fe, which debuts June 11-14, 2009 at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center…”
“SOFA WEST is an art fair featuring three-dimensional, contemporary artworks that bridge the boundaries of fine art, decorative art and design. It also includes a celebrated lecture series, a VIP program of signature events and exciting excursions.”
Will Jack and Linda (perhaps even our astute blogger Marie Miller) be in attendance in order to pick up just the perfect decorative accessories for the SPO Dream Home, or their private collection?
Thanks so much for the plan I was looking for—its Architectural House Plans, Santa Fe Splendor, just like you said DBCoop. I’ve been reading your blogs for years now and I feel like I know you all a bit. I’ve been too shy to join in until now, but since I’d love to win this home of my dreams, I thought it was time to join it. Thanks for all your great input and I enjoy reading your comments every day.
Coop & Marie….LOVE, LOVE, Love it! One of the things I really love about my house, which is more of an Arts & Crafts style (which you can see in my picture), is the wood beaming in my home…they are in the ceiling and the wood is chestnut throughout my home and it is fabulous! Even though this home you have come up with Marie, is very different than mine, here in Pennsylvania, the woodworking is authentic and true to style…Love it!
Thanks so much to you both for sharing this over and over again!
Living the Dream!
I love the house specially because it reminds me of Mexico’s architectual.
Love the site Coop & Marie…I know they’re building a pueblo style, but if I could build my dream home it would be this…
http://www.architecturalhouseplans.com/home_plans/283
kind of like Frank Lloyd Wright style
Great that I was able to bring that plan back up for you, Jules, and the rest of us curious bloggers. Welcome to our playroom, and hope that MARY continues to educate and entertain us as always with news and views of the HGTV Dream Home world. (Amazing how we are constantly clamouring for more visual stimulation here in the blogs.)
Lynn C, I really enjoy so many architectural styles, and Arts & Crafts/Craftsman is certainly one of them. My very first home in San Diego was a Craftsman, for which I paid $25,000, sold several years later for $29,000, and thought I’d made a lot of money!
How time flies and things change when you’re busy having fun….
By the way, Jules, if you end up building your Santa Fe Splendor dream home one of these days, don’t tell too many people—you’ll have a houseful in no time, and they won’t be willing to leave anytime soon!
Until recently I lived about 6 miles South of the site for the 2010 HGTV Dream Home. Like the dream house, we were at 7000 feet so we did not need AC, just windows and ceiling fans. We were hidden amongst the high desert trees and enjoyed the privacy. Great place for cycling, hiking, and other outdoor activities, but an easy drive into Albuquerque for city life amenities. We’ve now moved up to the edge of the Tetons and are experiencing another Western high desert and loving it. Wanna buy or rent our New Mexico house?
HEY CATHY LEMAR, I’M WITH YOU… I LOVE A CAPE COD OR A CRAFTSMAN.. WOULD HAVE LOVED LAST YEAR’S COTTAGE IT WAS SWEET.. THIS YEAR’S GREEN HOME IS COOL TOO…AND THE COMMUNITY LOOKS GREAT..
I WONDER IF THEY’VE EVER THOUGHT OF SOMETHING ON ONE OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS; WOULDN’T HAVE TO BE VERY BIG, JUST LIGHT AND AIRY..
WE CAN DREAM…
Hi Lynn.
My thoughts on why some posts have await moderation is…I have no ideal!
They did let my post through with the link so I guess they just want to take a look at the post first if it is posted when they are not on the board.
I post very early in the morning because I have sleep issues
and no ine is at work at those hours
.
I am very disappointed. Sadly i will not be entering this giveaway. I have been to new mexico and i have seen alot of it. I do not feel new mexico is more beautiful than michigan, missouri, cali, or the virginias. And i have experienced people from there, it is DEFINITELY and SOO laid back place and is more fit for people who want to laze or retire. Good luck with the home.
Hey Jules: I believe that you are referring to Adobebuilder.com/plans, or architecturalhouseplans.com/home? If not, it would either be HOUSEPLANS.COM or HDA HousePlansandMore.com? Hope this helps!
Oh my goodness Coop: Did I really miss all that and a “bag of chips?” WOW!! Your list was overwhelming! I’m not even going to ask what each subject entailed…especially the Jack Rabbit part?
Hi Lynn Coggin: I really did enjoy my company, and got my fill of beach combing for a little while…we did find lots of sand dollars, which was great. Have you ever read about the legend of the sand dollar? It goes something like this:
The Legend of the Sand Dollar:
There’s a lovely little legend
that I would like to tell,
of the birth and death of Jesus,
found in this lowly shell.
If you examine closely,
you’ll see that you find here,
four nail holes and a fifth one,
made by a Roman’s spear.
On one side the Easter lily,
its center is the star,
that appeared unto the shepherds
and led them from afar.
The Christmas Poinsettia
etched on the other side,
reminds us of His birthday,
our happy Christmastide.
Now break the center open,
and here you will release,
the five white doves awaiting,
to spread Good Will and Peace.
This simple little symbol,
Christ left for you and me,
to help us spread His Gospel,
through all Eternity.
Anyway, it was GREAT having sleep over company for four days, but it is also nice to reclaim my private spaces!!
Coop: It seems that you and I share that special technique of dyslexia! However, I think we can put your last reverse in letters to great use…we can call the DH2010 “THE ADOBE ABODE!!” I like it!!
I’m feeling energized….THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME!!!!
Dear Dreamers,
The site HGTV picked is a VERY beautiful site. My wife and I SERIOUSLY thought about buying a lot out there four years ago until we took a look at the commute into ABQ. Driving into ABQ from that area – San Pedro -is REALLY dangerous. Sedillo Hill on hwy 40 is FILLED with trucks and it can get very icey in the winter. That said, I think it is the PERFECT location for a rich retired couple as you will have “some” buffer from the crime in ABQ and you won’t have to commute into ABQ down Sedillo Hill/Hwy 40 amongst all of those 18 wheelers. :-0
P.S. As always Coop, thank you for taking care of business & helping Jules! (I’m always a day late & a dime short!!) I am hoping that HGTV takes a long look at the “Santa Fe Splendor!!” If not, we will have to rely on Jules to build it!!
Which brings up that subject…WHEN WILL YOU POST THE HOUSE PLANS FOR THE DH2010 MARY??
Hello bloggersand good mourning,I might have a reason Lynn and Lessie are getting the “awaiting moderation” response on their screens.I was getting them, but not now. When you have more than one useable tab up on your screen, your computer anti-viral software kicks in to block the multible signals and check them out for pop-ups or trojens.(Like the pop-ups from netflex you get from this website) Pop-ups of this type, you can scroll down to your media bar and x-out.The other type comes from entering another web site with their own pop-up ads thus, giving you multiable signals. When you start another task it overloads your computers signal and it freezes.I have windows and when that happens to me ,I hit the ctrl+Alt+delete keys at the same time and a list of the active progams pops up.From there I just clear the unwanted programs and re-enter the website. I hope this helps LOL Danny
Marie – I learned about the Sand Dollar story from my mother-in-law years ago. I am from PA and my husband is from NC and we were vacationing in South Carolina. I had never seen one before then. They are really neat and I love that story. The little doves inside are really cool. Are there a lot of them where you are from? It does seem a bit miraculous the way they are made by nature.
sagg99 – That house is beeeeauuuuutiful! The inside photos are magnificent. Now that is what I call a fireplace…the stonework is unbelievable! Love the home theatre with the “It’s a Wonderful Life” poster…my husbands favorite movie.
lovely kitty – Thanks for the info on the ‘awaiting moderation’…misery loves company…I thought it was only me…I tend to be a bit chatty but I really am trying to be a little more succinct in the future;)) Hmmm…wonder how that will work out for me?
Chris – Thanks for the insight as far as the weather in the mountains of NM! Wow, you really don’t need any air conditioning? Good luck with finding a buyer or renter for your home! You could plant a statue of St. Joseph upside down facing the street.
It really does work sometimes!
Coop – WOW! You made $4,000…I am sure that was a lot of money back then. Wait, what am I talking about? That’s a lot of money these days…I’ll take it;))
Jules – Welcome Aboard! I was a blog stalker for years also;)) The people here are fabulous and it is very fun waiting for MARY to come to join us again and give us more information.
MARY – Okay, the anticipation is a little fun…but we’re ready now!
Hope to see you today!
Living the Dream!
Danny,
Thanks for the information. Although I’m technically challenged, I’ll give it a try the next time “awaiting moderation” appears.
Have a great day!
Lessie – I have a post ‘awaiting moderation’ right above your post…I think I am too chatty in my posts
Danny – Thanks for the info.
Living the Dream!
I think MARY’s recovering from the frantic pace of “a clue a day keeps the bloggers’ ire away” period. We were spoiled with constant input, but I’m sure she will be re-energized in no time, and posting new and fun threads for us to delve into—which reminds me, will we be seeing the house plans soon??
As for me, I’m dreaming of a bold and striking new Dream Home for the San Pedro Overlook site, with an exciting floorplan and inspired and color-splashed interior design to match the dramatic exterior. I’m sure I won’t be the only one looking over every little nook and cranny of the floorplan once posted, asking the inescapable questions, and making the inevitable observations. Yes, definitely another fun step in the unfolding of the Dream Home process. Bring it on, HGTV!
Last but not least, if you don’t feel courageous enough to dream big, start small and build on your successes. It’s far better than not dreaming at all.
Has Mary released the Lot yet? I think it is lot #87.
http://www.sanpedrooverlook.com/purchase/homesites-for-sale/
If you scroll down to lot #87 you will see it is blocked out.
This is where the DH 2010 will be!
http://www.sanpedrooverlook.com/purchase/homesites-for-sale/
#87 is darkened out. This is where it will be.
If you go to the web site of San Pedro Overlook, and go to the homesites available page, #87, the view has been covered.
This is where I think it will be.
If you go to the Cambell Ranch Reality site, it would be lot 12, dated 9/26/08 lot numbers have changed since then.
Reading the article posted above I see that the builders have not agreed to buy the house back in any situation, but only to buy it back from HGTV if the winners don’t take it. The article doesn’t go into detail but I think what it should say is “if the winners decide to sell it rather than live in it”. I can’t imagine that anybody has or would say no thanks to a free house regardless of taxes. You can always sell it and have at least 50% of the home’s value to buy your own dream home. Has anybody in the past said they would not take the house?
Nearly 4000 Sq Ft sounds great, I wonder if that includes the casita or not.
Linda, please go to Drummer Tweeds in Colorado Springs area and buy the Pinon bedroom (pinecone) suite for the master suite.
after reading the article, I think the builder would buy the home back from HGTV, or the winner…they don’t want a seller who is willing to sell the home for half it’s value…that would bring all the homes in the area down…so it would benefit the builder to buy it back, whether it’s the winner, or HGTV
This tome around we know that the rules tells us about the dates that hgtv will be contacting pin them to your calendar so we can start giving hints about the winner! Also when the homepage for the dream home 2010 read the rules so you will know!!
njgal, it could be #87 since they blocked the picture, but it is still listed as available, lot #80 is listed as sold, and if you look at the video of Jack when he says “this is the location of the 2010 dream home” the view appears to be the same…I had both the video, and the lot picture up side by side
You folks crack me up! I just spent the last few days reading ALL of your blog entries (not much going on at work…don’t tell the boss!) and waiting for some floorplans to show up… I, personally, am delighted about the location of the 2010 HGTV DH! I spent several years in CO and fell in love w/the southwest (in VA now).
When I left CO, I drove south thru Taos & Santa Fe before heading east – spectacular scenery. If I had seen that 1st I would have moved there instead of CO! Although I prefer the more traditional pueblo architect., I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!
It’s an amazing house, everything I’ve ever dreamed of. I grew up in New Mexico and have lived in the Northwest for 22 years. I want to go home….You couldn’t have picked a better or beautiful spot. Good job..
As I look at the phase 2 map, it could be any lot that’s 3+ acres, not all of the lots are listed on the homsites for sale page…it’s hard to tell when they update the sold lots…so could be #87,#80,#79,#78, #77,#101,#100,#97,#96 etc.
Way to go Jack you found a great place to built the 2010 home the weather is great and I know about the great people there because I’ve stopped there a few times in the past. Now that’s the place I would love to live at. If I won that home I would move in a heart beat and to sell it back to the builders no way. Thanks for giving us a location on where it is going to be and what it might look like.
Wanted to mention, Sagg99/sheilagg1, I was impressed by your grand Lodge style plan that you posted the previous day. It’s really dramatic, and would be perfect for a Wyoming or Colorado home “on the range”, or any range for that matter. There’s even a nanny’s quarters on the floorplan, which could make a great guest room or??
Let us know when y’all get the lot question resolved so we can start drawing up the perfect site plans! I bet Marie Miller could just call up the folks at Campbell Ranch Realty and ask politely…after all, why should it be such a carefully guarded secret? It’s not like they can build the home without any obvious signs, unless they keep the site camouflaged with brush and dogwood tree branches….
DBCoop, what would you like to know?
Hi Dutch! Hahaha!
Living the Dream!
Okay will rely on the people in the know here but would a house of scope the Dream House will certainly be hard for the winner to sell in this area? Any idea on what is happening with last year’s Dream House as of yet?
The appeal and layout of the house you mentioned Coop is breathtaking in its whole. I especially love the guest area so secluded from the main living quarters for the family. The overall look of the exterior is magnificent and would be lovely. It is a great floor plan for a house of this design.
College mom, the house is being built in an area of expensive homes, so it should not be too hard to sell. Last years dream home winner got their home sold April 14th or 15th, right when the income taxes were due. I don’t remember what the sale price was, but it was a few hundred thousand below the actual retail value.
Collegemom, I was referring to last years house in Florida. I don’t know if you meant this years house in Sonoma. I have no idea what happened with this years house. From what the winners said I am sure they are going to sell it.
Nice to hear that the winners have not had much trouble selling and that the new Dream House will be built in an area of corresponding homes that will hopefully make it easier for the winner to sell if they want.
Any house plans?
Okay, so my comment from earlier is still awaiting moderation so I am going to break it down and post it in pieces…

i think you are right njgal…check out the Dream Cam
For those who wish to know the lot number (ending needless speculation) for the HGTV Dream Home in SPO, our fellow blogger Dutch has offered to share this information with y’all…
I’m sure he will not disappoint you with the accuracy of his insights, the speed of his response, and the integrity of his comments.
Hopefully, we can save Marie Miller a long distance phone call…and me the airfare.
Dutch definitely has the answers and I know he will be sharing them with the bloggers later this evening or tomorrow

Living the Dream!
I live in the community next to San Pedro Overlook…I love it here…they picked a great place!
LOVE IT! EXCELLENT LOCATION. I live in the northeast and have always wanted a home in New Mexico! Look out everyone…I am going to enter EVERY DAY for this one!
Ingrid & Bobo…Where are you? I’m dying to know your thoughts on the new location and how it is going in Sonoma.
Hope all is well!
Living the Dream!
Cathy Lemar, I did check out the Dream Cam, and I still think it is lot #87. Thanks!:)
Lynn…you are no where near as talkative as our dear DBCoop. And we just LOVE him!
I think the Moderators just want to keep things cool here, so sometimes I guess they need to see a post before it is posted.
lovelykitty – I think that HGTV does a good job of moderating comments. There are probably ‘trig ger’
words that they scan in posts which is not unusual. Hmmm…I hope that wasn’t one of them…we’ll see! I hope you got some sleep last night;) Thanks again for the info!
Living the Dream!
I have been reading up on the Rail Runner which is a commuter rail system serving the metropolitan areas of Albuquerque and Santa Fe. The name ‘Rail Runner’ is a play on the name of New Mexico’s state bird the roadrunner.
I live right up the street from the commuter train system in this area. I can be in Philadelphia at a nice restaurant ordering my appetizer and beverage of choice in about 20 minutes.
Also, it runs to the Philadelphia International Airport and takes me less than 40 minutes. It’s really great!
I am really happy to hear about the Rail Runner…Sante Fe, here I come! Now I love southwestern food, but I don’t want to get too homesick so I think I’ll try some Italian food…Chef Nelli’s Gnocchi at Trattoria Nostrani will probably do it for me! MARY, maybe this is where I can get some wonderful r-a-v-i-o-l-i? Yum!

Living the Dream!
Check out the new thread. Amazing.
This is exciting to finally have the location for 2010.
I would be hoping for single floor plan with wide doorways and a central courtyard. More handicap friendly than 2nd and 3rd floor master bedrooms like the last two Dream Homes.
I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
On a totally different note…while we are waiting for some big news from Dutch and Mary
…I found this interesting…
We all love E. W. Scripps Company for many reasons here at the HGTV Dream Home Blog. Look at what else they do for our youth…Scripps does it right!
Kavya Shivashanker, a 13-year-old speller from Olathe, Kan., won the 2009 Scripps National Spelling Bee Thursday night. Kavya was named the national champion in the Championship Round after correctly spelling the word Laodicean which is defined as “lukewarm or indifferent in religion or politics.” She will take home more than $40,000 in cash and prizes!
Rich Boehne, president and chief executive officer of the E.W. Scripps Company, declared Kavya the national champion and awarded her the engraved Scripps National Spelling Bee Championship loving cup immediately after the winning word was correctly spelled.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation’s largest and longest-running educational promotion, administered on a not-for-profit basis by the E.W. Scripps Company and 287 local spelling bee sponsors in the United States, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Department of Defense Schools in Europe; also, the Bahamas, Canada, China, Ghana, Jamaica, New Zealand, and South Korea.
Their purpose is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives.
Thanks for everything Scripps!

If I were winner of last year Dream Home 2008 I would move there to keep it and enjoy it. Same this year in California. I would do same to Green Home if i WIN

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW MANY SQUARE FEETS MEASURE GREEN HOME 09 IN PORT ST LUCIE FLORIDA?
You were all correct on your speculation and please forgive our website as we are working on consolidating them into one. The dream home will be on #87. It’s a 3-acre site and as you can see from the camera there are beautiful views. We are still awaiting the home plans. Have a great friday!
I think Dream Home 2008 was very special vuew and location and stile.
I hope next dream home would have grass and trees around and flowers including water or(water falls)/ Not just naked dry land.
Looking of picture of DH 2008. It is just complette Dream and desire house.

Vesna, thank you for your honest feedback! Until 90 days ago I had not been to the southwest much less the High Desert. But I promise you the land is not naked. The smell and fragrance of the pinon, ponderosa and juniper trees make the morning sunrises a sight to behold. Plus the six mountain ranges…Wish you could sense, feel and see the this place; it’s peace, the quiet and the sheer beauty.
This portion of the historic, Turqouise Trail, which goes from ABQ to SF is known as the Green side due to all the trees and vegetation. Plus the community shares a 625 acre preserve with our sister community San Pedro Creek. On the east side of the Turquoise Trail sit the Monte Largo mountains which are covered with trees, vegetation and streams; no homes. Just sheer beauty.
Lynn Coggin,
You are an asset to this blog. Love the info you share.
I saw the Scripps Spelling Bea champ on tv. Her parents should be so proud! Thanks Scripps for investing in the lives of our children!!!
Dutch,
I’ll be in New Mexico in November. Will I be allowed to go into the gated community and see the Dream Home since I won’t be there for public tours? If so, this will be the first time I’ve ever had the opportunity to see a Dream Home in person.
I want to thank “User1…” for the advice about the winter drive into Albuquerque. If I win the 2010 Dream Home, I’ll plan on getting myself an 18 wheeler to handle the occasional bad weather commute. (Imagine the groceries I could get in that thing!) Other than that, a sporty convertible should do just fine. Hmmm, will the Dream Home garage handle an 18 wheeler cab?
Good to see that our friend didn’t decide to play “double Dutch” and skip out on us. I’m sure that we’ll next see him waving at us on the time-lapse Dream Cam, right?!
That’s a big 10-4, bloggers.
I am looking forward to participate in daily sweepstakes entrance for DH 2010 after reading Dutch comments. Meanwhile I got very discourage about Green Home after reading fallowing article and I thought why better GH09 location was not chosen:
Located on a barrier island off of Florida’s central east coast in Jensen Beach, the twin St. Lucie reactors are about eight miles upwind of the town of Port St. Lucie, where an astronomically high percentage of children have brain cancer.
The death rate for breast cancer in St. Lucie County has also skyrocketed.
Lessie – OMGosh…Thank you so much! That was so nice of you! I am so jealous you are going to New Mexico in November…where are you staying? Maybe I’ll see you there.
Dutch – I love your description of the fragrances and the sights you get to enjoy every day! After I read your post, I closed my eyes and I could smell them too!
Thanks for sharing.
Living the Dream!
vesna, I’d be more concerned about the following rare event: “Okeechobee man in hospital after alligator grabs him by chest while standing in the water fishing.”
And despite the statistics, I still drive on Southern California freeways, and have no plans to sell my car. (Although I may be looking into the price of 18-wheelers if I win the Dream Home, also as a result of a previous post.)
Then there’s global warming, economic meltdown, swine flu, international tensions, and those pesky taxes to pay.
My advice if you’re the lucky Green Home winner; just be sure to rinse off those Green Home roof-garden tomatoes before eating. Part of going ‘green’ is going clean.
Vesna,
I checked the website which posted that info. It seems that Gregory Green, a retired health physicist, Automatt and others have differing opinions about the reactors.
The license for the plant was renewed for 20 years in 2002. Check the PSL community blog. I’m sure you can get greater insight from them.
Does this mean you aren’t interested in winning the Green Home?
DBCoop,
You are hilarious!!! Why stress?!
Lynn Coggin,
Previously I attended the Glorieta writer’s conference which has been changed to the CLASS Writer’s Conference. It will be in Abiquiu, NM at the Ghost Ranch. I usually come in early and spend time in Albquerque and Santa Fe. Hopefully, I’ll now be able to spend time in San Pedro.
Let’s coordinate our New Mexico travel schedules. Maybe you, me and lovelykitty can meet there.
Oh, no, I mean Yes I would love to move into Green Home 09. Kitchen is absolutely adorable, I love Dining room, I Love that open roof and high ceilings in great room.
I love house outside look. And the top roof view. And I think I can sleep on porch with precaution to close every shade down that alligators cannot smuggle trough. I will build swimming pool. Still maybe to sell because I am very afraid of nuclear plants near buy of leakage radiation. Ohhhjj. If air smells nice and clean, I would stay. I will keep entering sweepstakes. Only six days left. Exiting! And now ….I am getting into that beautiful view of Dream Home 2010. Looks like air quality is there (very important). Looks like beautiful view. I love range of 6 six mountain ranges. I am dreaming of looking at the starry sky in clean calm nights and views of grate space. Especially if there will be large swimming pool. And like Dutch described: The smell and fragrance of the pinon, ponderosa and juniper trees make the morning sunrises a sight to behold. Plus the six mountain ranges…Wish you could sense, feel and see the place; it is peace, the quiet and the sheer beauty. Yes I love …it.
I prefer Florida, maybe.
DBCoop made me so much sweet laugh while reading. I was like he he ho ho ha ha ha he J
My wife and I are both very sick and would like to get to the warmer weather while we still can. It breaks my heart to see her suffer so badly daily and can’t do anything for her. Thanks Russ
I am excited to see the DH2010 will be in New Mexico and cannot wait to see more of this amazing DH2010 (like all the other Dream Homes are amazing).
Jack loved the video and the shirt – Great Job
Ahhhh resting on the veranda watching the orange sunset lay down on the prarie. The salty taste of lime margaritas and the smell of cactus flower.I would love a large rustic porch with lots of shade and inside my humble abode southwest furniture in leather and hides. As i come in the door i rest my hat and kick off my boots and dabble in some chips and salsa.Im in New Mexico now baby come visit me in my DREAM home!!!!Sswweeeett
Is this home going to have a pool?I hope it is affordable for the winner….
Just beautiful, can’t wait to see the finished product. I know it will be as spectacular as all the dream homes. This area sounds so serene and enticing. LOVE IT!!
Someone who is already living in a $ 350.000.00 home will win this new home. They would never let someone who is in a apartment win this beautiful home !!
Absolutely love it. . . I adore the southwest look, the awesome views, the culture and the WEATHER (300 days of sunshine every year – WOW – heaven on earth). Having lived in the far north for the first half of my life, I can’t tell you what a ‘dream’ it would be to enjoy the remainder in the gorgeous southwest. Thanks HGTV for giving this opportunity to whomever is chosen.
Awesome place and home! Our Granddaughter’s first name is Campbell! ESP?
Beautiful, just beautiful. And since HGTV always goes all out I can only imagine how magnificent this home will be. Since the 300 days of sun were mwntioned repeatedly I am thinking that photovoltec cell son the roof might not be a bad idea, you know mixing a little green with the dream.
I totally agree with stinger.Utilize the sun as much as possible with the solar panels.
Also large overhangs on every side of the house so the wind can swooosh in and cool the house.I think a house with a center courtyard would be awesome, yah know a house that wraps around a huge paver style patio.
I’ve heard they are giving the winner 600K cash in addition to winning the DH so they can pay the taxes on the winnings. Does anyone know if this is true?
For those who want to tour I understand the home will be ready middle to end of October with furnishings, but Marie could give us the scoop on this topic. A great couple came by yesterday and wanted to look at the LOT, yes they are fellow bloggers and unfortunately we couldn’t let them in. I was told Tours would commence NYD 2010, but hey if you call ahead we could probably work it out. wink wink wink….
It’s a beautiful day here in Sandia Park, NM and as I was on the site this morning I couldn’t help but be even more excited!
Dutch,
Thanks for the tip. I’ll certainly call ahead. Visiting the completed, furnished Dream Home is an opportunity of a lifetime.
If what you heard is correct, “the winner (receiving) 600K cash in addition to winning the DH so they can pay the taxes on the winnings,” this would be the best Dream Home ever. The HGTV server may not be able to handle all the entries!
Enjoy the beauty of New Mexico. Don’t forget to taste the chili peppers. Make sure you have something stronger than water to put out the fire.
JRE – unfortunatelly I may think you are very close to right. For some people a blessed more then others.
Dutch, how you could be at location? Are you living in the area?
I do definitely not believe in extra 600K.
It would not make sense of practice of giveaways but would be very appealing. I think that dream homes are always more luxurious then green homes.
It would be happiness to me to win this beautiful Green Home in town of Tradition in FL. I would be moving instantly there.
I love lot of things there. Kitchen is adorable, terrace on the roof with view, dining room, great room and spacious ceiling and lot of other benefits. I love the way how house looks looking from outside. OHHH
Anyhow, if not, I will be looking forward to compete for Dream Home 2010 in NM.
We have been living in a home with Toxic Chinese Drywall, and so of course we entered to win the HGTV Green home as we need to get out of our current home as soon as possible. We hate to ask…but can you tell me who the manufacturer of the drywall was for this home, and if there are any special “Green” qualities about the drywall itself? I absolutley love this home & especially, love the dining room table. If I had my way, we’d build a green home out of recycled wood, top to bottom…. Thanks in advance for your response! We’ve got our fingers crossed!
I’m not counting on the cash, but I’ll hold Linda Woodrum and HGTV to providing a bowl of chocolate kisses to the Dream Home winner.
Which makes me wonder, would the IRS take chocolate kisses instead of cash for the taxes—maybe one kiss for each dollar owed?
Just call it part of an economic stimulus package…
I visited Santa Fe once and have wanted to go back every since.
Looking forward to seeing the home that will be desinged.
Sandra Henderson
OMG!!!!! This is perfect. How did you know where I wanted my dream home to be????
I trully hope that all future Dream Homes would be build with unavoidable Solar Panels.
Well, now you guy really went and done it!
Lived in Albuquerque for 50 years & a pueblo style home will really be different. With a flat roof, they are notorious for leaking, BUT not to worry, with modern construction they hold up as good as any!
The weather here is amazing, four seasons, none of it bad. Hear it is the last of May & a high of 85 & a low of 59 making it not very hot because it’s DRY!
The location is out of the way making it nice & peaceful, but close enough to the big city (ABQ) to make it doable for anyone. Some people here don’t like the city & wouldn’t live anywhere than up there in the Sandia Park area.
Someone said they would ride the train (RailRunner) from Albuquerque to Santa Fe through the area where the house is being built. Well, it’s a little out of the way, but the train has been quite successful and has been in many train magazines including the July issue of Trains mag.
Later, -Albuquerque Flash
Yep, WYOMING would be a lovely idea for DH 2011! Have just the acreage with mountain views all around and near beautiful town of Cody-come see and make an offer.
Wow. New Mexico. Would sure be great to not have to endure the cold Wisconsin winters anymore!! I’ll be watching and waiting to enter to win this one for sure!
Thanks for posting that margarita recipie….I’ll be making me a pitcher of that the next really warm spell we have here.
I just can’t wait to see how they put this home together. It’s always exciting.
I would love this new dream place location and would definitely love the New England flare. Then I wouldn’t miss Maine so much!!
Good afternoon Dream Home Bloggers!
Did you know that the Sandia Peak Tramway is the world’s longest aerial tramway? It transports you above deep canyons and breathtaking terrain a distance of 2.7 miles. You can see some of nature’s more dramatic beauty as it unfolds before you. At sunset the desert skies produce a spectacular array of color, and your vantage point from the observation deck atop 10,378 foot Sandia Peak in the Cibola National Forest affords an 11,000 square-mile panoramic view of the Rio Grande Valley and the Land of Enchantment. Located on the eastern edge of Albuquerque in the Sandia Foothills at the end of Tramway Road.
Oh…this truly is the Land of Enchantment…who knew?! Way to go HGTV!
Living the Dream!
Can’t wait to see a good “Green” home, I’ve been disapointed with the previous homes and the steps they take to make them green. There are so many resources HGTV has and yet they overlook some of the most important steps needed to have the lowest impact home. Greenwoodlands.com has shown a home that takes green to an amazing level with elegance not seen in the previous dream homes. I would love to see less design and more environmental focus. More nature and less gated community.
Its interesting reading all the blogs… Like many native to Santa Fe, my family has been here for generations. If your coming from a big city, the three acres of dirt may be a shock. But our mountains make it perfect! Yes, our chili is great and never hot enough and, in contrast to many beliefs, Santa Fe has all four seasons and our summers are not really that hot (you guys are thinking of Phoenix). Though the chamisa’s are pretty, watch out for allergy season. Hope this bit of information helps those from other states!
Welcome to New Mexico, HGTV! A good number of the local populace haven’t heard yet, and we just posted an article at NM-Central.com to let them know. A clarification: San Pedro Overlook is in Sandoval County, near but not in the Town of Edgewood.
wish i could ever win such a beautiful home… cant wait to see the lucky person…. good luck to all
I am so excited! What a fabulous place for the next dream home. I can’t wait to see the architecture, colors, and interior design that all of the talented designers come up with!
As a graphic designer and a love for the arts, the location sounds perfect. My husband will love the lush golf courses. My sons will enjoy all the opportunities the city has to offer!
I’ll be putting in my daily entry!
Thanks, HGTV! Excitement ahead!
what an awesome scenery to choose. I have always loved southwest; and I would definite like to stay in this house. the desert is very different from the greenery scene in MS.
simply beautiful.
Brenda Riddle , I agree with you about excitement about DH2010
How exciting! I was sure it was New Mexico, right away. I have told my husband for a couple of years that it would be a wonderful retirement place for us. It is half way between our parents ~ AZ and TX ~ and would be a great place to enjoy the culture and climate! I am eager to see the building progress! Keep it up HGTV! You are my favorite channel on television!!
We need more information ,we need to know about the closest towns and things to do.Post another blog soon ok.
I hope that with that many sunny days that they utilize solar power for the home
Ay Carumba!!! Ooo, you’ve hit on a little piece of heaven Jack! There are so many hidden wonders in the San Pedro Mountains. Sunshine, history, open space and peace. What could be better? I can’t wait to see the dream happen!
Hooray for the West!
Leah in Montana
Fabulous location for the HGTV 2010 Dream Home! Close to Albuquerque and Santa Fe, and great weather. Warm and sunny, and if you want to cool down, you can go to the mountains! Love all the historical places to see in New Mexico. The house sounds incredible! Can’t wait to see the building start, and the home evolve.
Can’t wait to see the new dreamhouse. HGTV is one of my favorite channels and I get in hot water for staying up so late watching. This is MY YEAR so make me proud. Thanks for all the good work.
I have never traveld much it looks like it would be intristing I’m sure to say the least .
I know that when all is said and done it will be spectacular.
I wish I could win it . What a dream.
Good luck to every one
Jack, you have every reason to be excited about Dream Home 2010. What a great shift in location and style from anything the HGTV Dream Home team has done before. I have been hoping to see HGTV build a contempoary style house. I can imagine that the contemporary adobe will have some really fun design challenges for all of you. Hope you get to enjoy a few good trail rides while you’re on sight.
wow I can’t wait I want to go there even if I don’t win too cool
Having lived in Bosque Encantado along the Rio Grande River in Bernalillo,NM near where the 2010 Dream Home is being built. This home is being built in the most enchanting location yet. The mile high skies are a vibrant blue and the Sandia Mts turn a watermelon red at sunset. Views will take your breath away. It is a short drive to ABQ or Santa Fe. Both cities have ski areas and great hiking. It is truly the “Land of Enchantment”.
You couldn’t have picked a better location. I used to live in Albuquerque from 1966 to 1969. Only went back in 1979 and would love to go back there for retirement. New Mexico is truely the land of enchantment and finding out the location brought so many good memories. Looking forward to entering and it would certainly be a dream come true.
I want to know who the architect is for this home. I have a nephew who lives in Sante Fe and designs contemporary adobe homes. Could the architect be Jon Dick?
This dream home is going to be amazing. What an excellent location. The video made me homesick and I live in Albuquerque. I have always wanted to build a house in the Sandia Park area. Great job HGTV!!! Whoever wins is going to be in for a wonderful suprise, not just with the Dream Home, but with the area as a whole!!
HGTV Thank you for doing Dream Home! Make it affordable, self sustaining, and if possible – profitable. Have Fun!
I think location is beautiful. I can not wait to start entering sweepstakes for Dream Home 2010. I think I love it. I imagine beautiful house as house of my dream with pool
Yipeee, I live in Taos, NM and you picked an Enchanting area. So much to do and see here and living in an Adobe modern home has been a dream of mine for years. After 31 years in Florida, the SouthWest has the climate, art , food and so much more. Can’t wait to see the home and hope you will have a self grown food garden. Congrats
I think you have out doen yourself this time this is the greatest. God must have lead you to this land because it is down right heavenly. I can not wait to see more, because each of you are so creative and talented.
What a dream!! I can’t wait for the big giveaway.
I’m a Ca. trans plant to Va. But my Heart will always be in the South West. I’m so glad to see you are building the DH in such a really beautiful place. I just hope you don’t have any RED, ORANGE, HOT PINK or DARK GREENS on any of the Walls. After all the South West is all about earth tones like TANS,BROWNS,CREAMS,and BLUES.
I love New Mexico. I grew up in Taos and lived in Albuquerque for a few years. I now live in Indiana and want to go HOME!!!!
BRING ME HOME BABY!!!
I MISS YOU.
I am absolutely thrilled at this location. While I live in the Sonoran Desert right next door in Arizona, this location for the 2010 Dream Home is breathtaking. I have travled all over NM and it has some absolutely breathtaking views. Very, very excited!
Would love to live in New Mexico; a respite from the cold of Minnesota. Have visited this beautiful area and would love to call it home.
why does it have to be new mexico?? y can’t it be california again? california is NICE AND PRETTY! new mexico? i don’t think i would want to live in new mexico.
I would just be happy to own a home for my family that I do not care where it is located. Everything done by HGTV is always gorgeous.
Hi Everyone! I went on a little 4 day retreat with the family! Incredible to be with family and friends isn’t it?
Vesna: I am fortunate to live here at San Pedro Overlook as well as be the Sales Manager for Campbell Corporation, the Developer of San Pedro Overlook.
As for things to do, there is so much. The nearest major cities are ABQ & SF. The world renowned SF Opera Season is starting in the next few weeks. As for fun activities for families this is the place for outdoor activities ranging from cycling to ATV’s to hiking trails. Art galleries abound, great museums along with several quivers of restaurants along I-14 and in ABQ/SF. Of course the Hot Air Baloon show is a must see in October.
Look forward to another exciting week of information and blogging!
This is awsom!!!!!!!! I Love that you pick this area…This is such a beautiful state….”purple mountain majasties” God’s country. I actually fly out once a year from the east coast just to see the breath taking skies and eat the red and green chiles….and enjoy the culture..Indian Market,Taos, etc. I hope I win this!!
) A wing and a prayer on this one….
It a pleasure to sit with my husband and watch HGTV. I hope we are the next winner.
Thankyou
Jean
OH
MY
DOG!!!!!!!!!
This is SO my house!!!! I’ve been dreaming of moving to New Mexico! I’m am going there in 3 weeks. Dang, I hope I didn’t just jinx myself by saying it out loud.

I’ve been dreaming of moving to New Mexico for years. Guess where I live now? Port Saint Lucie Fl. If I win the house here can I trade??? I’m really tired of the hurricanes.
WOW! THIS IS A GREAT LOCATION I LOVE THE OUTDOORS AND I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE PLACE IS GOING TO LOOK LIKE! I CAN ONLY IMAGINE MYSELF IN A HOME LIKE THE ONES HGTV BUILDS. AND POSSIBLY MAYBE I COULD EVEN WIN A CHANCE TO OWN A HOME OF MY OWN. IM A NEW MOM AND I LIVE WITH MY BROTHERS AFTER MY MOM HAD PASSED. IM PRETTY YOUNG AND JUST STARTING OUT ON MY CAREER TAKING CLASSES. IVE BEEN THROUGH ALOT AND IVE NEVER BEEN OUT SIDE OF MY STATE. LOOKING FOR A REASON TO LEAVE AND THIS MAY BE MY CHANCE. THANK YOU HGTV FOR GIVING ME THE OPTION TO DREAM BIG. WHEN THINGS ARE GOING WRONG I KNOW THAT I CAN LOG ON OR TURN TO THIS CHANNEL AND I CAN ESCAPE TO ALL THE PLACES AND HOMES SEEN ON THE TV SEEING PAST WINNERS FACES WHEN THEY HAVE HEARD THEY WON I CANT EVEN DESCRIBE WHAT THAT MIGHT FEEL LIKE TO WIN. WELL SEE YOU GOT TO BE IN IT TO WIN IT RIGHT
Yes !!!
Coop!!! You could not have picked a better place!! I grew up in Albuquerque and there is no place like it in the world to grow up in!! It’s a great place to live. This is a place I would love to move back to from Dallas.
Good luck to all!!!
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! I can not think of a more beautiful vista than the views in New Mexico. Maybe I can live there instead of camp there. I am looking forward to the Tour of the house.
Ah! I love that part of the United States! It is so beautiful there.
)
Not interested at all. Not my kind of climate.
so much to look forward to with this house. should be fun to see how the house comes together. I’ve spent years in the southwest and enjoy it.
By 2012 you will wish it was being built in North Dakota when that sun get soo hot you can’t go outside.
I think its great what you are doing.I watched when the last couple won.Yes I am from North Dakota and wish my husband and I could win but I love to watch the other people even if i get a little invious, yet I know everything happens for a reason. Its great its there.People all need a reason to hope for the best and I just wish for the one that really needs it gets it.Thanks from North Dakota
I live in Northern Arizona and it is beautiful. I’ve seen picture of New Mexico and it is beautiful. can’t wait to see the out come. Beautiful!!!
I was disappointed to hear the home would be in New Mexico – HOT HOT HOT – not a place I would want to live, but I am sure the home will be spectacular as all the others have been.
OMG my old home state!!! I so want a chance at this one
New Mexico? Obviously he has not spent much time there or he would know how boring, run down, and crime ridden it is there. Also, the economy is horrible. It is difficult to get a decent job there. It may be nice for some one who is retired, but Carefree, Arizona would have been much better. It is so beautiful in Carefree and it is close to Phoenix so there is plenty of activity. The crime is not very high in the Carefree area either. I grew up in New Mexico, I can tell you . . . they have made it look Much better then it actually is. Try living there for a while, you will sell the house and move out in no time. Oh well.
FANTASTIC CHOICE!!!! Love New Mexico & spent many wonderful times there while living many many years in Southwest. Can’t beat the Southwest!!! Miss it and would love to move back and this house sure would make that possible.
Great choice………how about Durango CO for 2011 just in case I can’t win NM.
I’m thrilled because if for any reason I don’t win 2009’s home, I am happy to relocate to sunny New Mexico. Keep the locations in keeping with my retirement dreams…thanks Coop for great work and great choice.
All of You can just stop crying about the prize , Because – I Am Going To WIN It . So You All can just shut the _uck Up , and Know That I am The Happy Winner ,ummm Already . All of you Bitch and Bitch and Bitch , Well you bitches , stop your bitchin’ , Because , I AM Going to Win This Prize ! ! ! ! !
I love your new location I’ve been tell my friends and family I want to move to Santa Fe something new, time to get out of Washington for some warm sunny weather
It will be great to see you pull it together. How can anyone say anything negative. It should be a blessing for anyone to get.
Love the location !!! As a hot-air balloonist, you can bank on me entering every day with that faint hope of winning !!!!
Dutch – Good to hear from you again! I’m glad you had the opportunity to spend some time with your family. You have had a very busy month so I am sure you deserved a little break.
Send us a wave next time you are down at the site…maybe we’ll see you through the webcam!
Hope to see you sometime in the future!
Lynn Coggin
Living the Dream!
HGTV, you are spot on for the New Mexico location.Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Warm, intimate, and small community welcoming the next winner. Congrats on picking such a beautiful location and once again, Yaaaaa!
This 2010 dream home could bring us into a great dream to explore their community, their culture that we can learn more or much more….we lived in Talladega, AL that is very small town, nothing much to do around our community. We are looking forward to view the dream home when it will be finished. I do believe it will combine the dream home with the beauty of mother nature.
I am so excited to see the HGTV Dream Home 2010 was selected in New Mexico. I am a sixth generation New Mexican, and very proud of it. There is so much beauty, spirituality, culture, history, and natural resources in New Mexico. It would be a dream come true to win the HGTV Dream Home 2010 in NM. Way to go HGTV!
My goodness HGTV crew, I LOVE the diversity of each Dream Home. I was born in Seattle and have lived in the beautiful NW all my life (nearly 64 years). I have done very little travel, so seeing these locations is great – imagining ‘MY’ new residence.
I was thinking perhaps the ‘new’ surprise could be here in God’s country – close to mountains, ocean/sound, desert, rain forest, lowland lakes, hiking, fishing, camping, ferry boat rides from one island to another – so many intriquing options…maybe in 2011..
I have never won anything in my life, but try as I may, I keep entering and life is not over yet – thank God. I enter the HGTV site each day, hoping for yet another opportunity to be ‘THE WINNER’ – I’m an optimist. Where there’s life, there’s hope!!!!!
The entire programming of HGTV is wonderful – each one shows new perception and genius. I have used some of the ideas in my condo upgrade I had done last year. Most of my ideas are completed – just need more money to finish the last few touches.
Thank you so much for all you give us to enjoy and dream about – keep up the good work.
thanks HGTV becouse i have another vision of visit…..althought i will like to win the dream home at least you let me see beutifull places!!!! thenk you GHTV!!!
When we watched the video, we knew it was New Mexico and therefore were delighted. We’ve been there just once on a trip
across the USA and it was one of the most pleasurable, interesting, & beautiful places we visited, therefore we’re sure it will a be wonderful place to live. Can’t wait to enter and we’ll keep our fingers crossed!
Seeing as how this is the last day for comments, I decided I better make it fast. The fact that it is snowing here today (June 6th) makes that Arizona home look very desireable. My arthritic bones would really appreciate the warmer climate.
Nancy
OMG, I LOVE New Mexico! Can’t wait to see the home!! Fantastic location!!
Now this is heaven ! ! The best of all Worlds : art, history, lots of Sun, golf, architicure, the high speed rail, hot-aired balloons, lots of adventure, fine dining. I Love the The San Pedro Vistat and with over 300 days of sunshine…I can sure live with that being from the Midwest!!! My Dogs would also be in Heaven. Would this be my Dream Home, you betcha
For a girl living in chicago but raised in southern Cali. New Mexico is more than a dream, Oh to be warm again, to ride my horse year round outside, heaven. oh I can’ wait to start entering. Yeah Maura
Looks great and going to be hard to wait.
WOW—now there’s a Dream Home…sicne I damaged my bad working the cold in New England has made life hell but warm heat…yummy…all I need is a lil Dream Home in New Mexico and a sombrero to stop my pale freckled skin from burning like a suicidal Maine Lobster and I’m there.
SHHWEET !!!
I guess it is exciting to some people but please don’t decorate it with Southwestern decor or it will be a HUGE disappointment.
What about the Pacific Northwest or the Northeast??
Or somewhere in Northern Oregon?
2011 MICHIGAN!!!!!!
New Mexico is one of our favorite places in the country. So much to see and do…love the balloon festival. Would love to have a house in the beautiful state. Great choice
I love that your building the 2010 Dream Home in my backyard, I’m in Albuquerque
. But I agree with Arlene, please no southwest decor.
BTW is there any way to see the home as its being built?
i am so exciting about the dream home. i can not wait to they start putting things inside the house.new mexico is wonderful place to live in the country very nice
I can not wait to see the house that will be built in new Mexico good place my husband and I are retired can moved in a second my mind is working over time about the style hurry hurry The landscaping .
Hawaii of course
I have 10 acres in the development and think it’s the best place ever to build a home. Maybe now I can sell that property! Ha! It really is an amazing area and a great place for a dream home.
I have not been in NM but we drove by Albuquerque, and it’s a beautiful town. I’m looking forward to see the development of the new Dream Home and I’m feeling that I’m going to live in it.
I’ve been reading all the comments. I guess there isn’t an area of the country that would satisfy everybody! In my opinion, you really have made a wonderful choice. I live in Bernalillo, NM and happen to have the most majestic view of the Sandia Mountains right outside my back door. I really do understand and appreciate this beauty. I am excited about the choice!!! Good Luck to everyone….. someone really IS going to HAPPY!!!!!
i was hoping for myrtle beach s.c.? that way i could play golf too! do i really want a house on the border with mexico?hmmmm?
I am sure that this dream home will be amazing. HGTV ROCKS! If I am blessed with this home, my family and I will be saying adios to Hammond. I welcome a new start with a new environment!
Finally something out of the city and in the country…I just hope there are no restrictions on horses because if I win I am bringing mine….
I love it!!! What a great place to live and no better place to live than in a “Dream Home.”
Wow!! I just love the vistas. I believe this is going to be the most gorgeous home HGTV has ever built. I visited Glorieta, New Mexico while a student at Oklahoma State Univesity back in the eighties and got to travel to Alberqurque and Santa Fe while in Glorieta. The landscape is breathtaking. I can’t wait to see how this house will take shape with the surrounding landscape. Boy, I wish I could win this house. I live in South Carolina where we have beautiful blue skies throughout the spring and summer months, but to see the blue skies of the Southwest, I can only imagine. Looking forward to watching this home take shape.
I love the southwest. The climit is beautiful and is good for anyone with health problems. You look like you outdid yourself this time.
I forgot to ask, when do we start entering for this gorgeous home, which I know it will be? I can’t wait to start entering. I say put in as much of the Southwest look that the house can stand. I love the look and think, if the home is in the Southwest, while not include the look of the area. I would welcome it.
The 2010 Dream Home will be an amazing place to relax, or so it seems. I really enjoy looking at all the new designs that HGTV comes up with. Nice location HGTV.
Wow! This would certainly be a change… Never been to the southwest (to live anyway). We are ready for a change. Tell me when to start packing my bags!
It would be wonderful if this beautiful site also boasted at least 90% solar energy.
I keep hoping they’ll come up with a place where a person with MS can live comfortably. No too hot, no stairs wide walkways. A place I would be able to live happily..
I was hoping for something reflecting the Arts and Crafts movement, but this actually appeals to me. You guys can decorate with those dramatic colors so specific to the southwest. Panoramic views will also be a factor. This is great guys!
FINALLY! I’ve entered the Dream House contests half-heartedly in the past thinking about the ability to find work in the area after all of the initial excitement has passed, but NOW, I will be a faithful and diligent entrant because I work in Albuquerque and can definitely commute from the East Mountain location! Wah Hooooooo!!!!
This is no doubt a retiree’s dream home and location. I am familiar with this part of the world as I have driven Rte. 66 many, many times and dreamed of living the good life in this area, to me, it is simply a beautiful and healthful place to spend one’s last days, thank you HDTV for giving me that chance.
That would be a great place to go, Would love to get out of MN and the long winters. Can’t wait to sign up.
What a great site! I can’t wait to see the building begin. I hope you stay true to the SW way of decorating, this will be one beautiful home.
This would truly be coming back home. to the Land of Enchantment. I love the sunrises and sunsets, the mountains and deserts. Indian bread is the best in the world. I lived there for many years and would love to return. My children grew up loving the great outdoors and have not forgotten the fishing, hunting and camping. Nor have they forgotten the visits to the sheep farmss during shearing season. They learned a great deal while living in the great state of New Mexico, which has one of the mosy beautiful capital buildings in the whole USA.
Whoowho. Yea I think this is so great. the southwest is so amazing. with HGTV style this home should be the best!!
It’s a fact your Dream Homes are beautiful and inovative, however, your not helping anyones dreams. So far…I believe not a single winner has been able to keep the home because of taxes and various costs required to move in.Every winner so far has been forced to sell the home.
Have you ever thought of building a home where an average working person could afford to live? Maybe you should change the name of the sweepsteaks to “Dream Crushers”.
Chuck, did you ever think to consider that the idea of the DREAM HOME is to showcase a DREAM project, generate excitement, and provide a chance to win an extraordinary prize that, when “cashed in”, that is, sold, will leave the winner with a LOT of cash to go out and live THEIR OWN version of the dream. It is a life-changing opportunity. The Dream Home only REPRESENTS the dream. Then it allows you to go out and live YOURS, so it’s a good idea to have one just in case.
As far as I’m concerned, the bigger, the more dramatic, and the more expensive the Dream Home, the happier I’ll be as the winner, thanks to HGTV and its sponsors. I’ll have NO PROBLEM selling the home, pocketing the cash, and living MY dream. For the truly savvy, maybe HGTV should change the name of the grand prize sweepstakes to “Dream Cashers”, or, in the same vein, “DreamCatchers”. I’m in this game from day one to the final reveal. I wouldn’t DREAM of it any other way.
Sedona, AZ for 2011! Wow – truly amazing all of these giveaways! Keep up the great work, & keep the spirit Alive!
After having entered and lost for the DH 2009 wishing to live in the lovely state of California, especially “wine country” I am glad to see another dream home location still in the west and in the beautiful land of New Mexico…Land of Enchantment…hoping this time I may even be the winner of DH 2010.
New Mexico is a great choice.
I love the location. I have been there and it is just a wonderful place to live.
Whomever wins should be over joyed. The mornings will just take your breath away.
I had tears of joy! Every day I dream of moving to New Mexico, it gets me through my day. I can’t wait to enter to win. Thank you for this!!!!!!!
The perfect home out of the cold Michigan weather. Just lost my job and husband is retired. Beautiful location!! Dream come true!
The 2010 Dream Home location is absolutely fabulous!!! I live in southwest Utah and I love the high desert and the beautiful red mountains! New Mexico has always been a place I dream about visiting, and perhaps the 2010 Dream Home will be just the thing I need to get there!!!!
When I seen where the New Home was going to be build I was really excited. My Husband has Family that lives in New Mexico we have visited the area for many years and have had thought of retiring there for years. We have always lived in small towns. while they are great for raising a family, now we are alone it would be nice to be able to do more with the convience of a Great City so close. This will also give his Mother the opportunity to get to know us better. Great Job in picking the Location I will be entering often. This House will be Beautiful if it is any thing like all the reat of the homes HGTV has Build a real Dream Home.
…My first time on the blog…I’m so excited! I can already see my family there!! I know this one’s meant for me!!! (Just a little note to HGTV…it would be great if you could/would reintroduce the $250,000 cash prize that you’ve awarded previous winners…it would certainly help with the taxes and such.) Also, I love the time-delay cam. Great!! Builds the excitement & makes it feel personal. Much love to all HGTV devotees.
Although this must be very beautiful, how about considering some of the northern areas? In all the years I’ve been closely watching this, all I see is Florida, Texas, California and the like. Let me tell you, the Northeastern states have a whole lot of charm and vistas to excite anyone. I live in Western New York, and Niagara Falls is to die for! The weather is phenominal (definitely not all the snow that the news keeps showing, no volcanos, earthquakes, hurricanes or tornados!) and the scenery is just beautiful all year long. Hopefully, you will visit us soon, and see what I’m talking about.
Awesome choice Dream Home Team! New Mexico radiates with cultural variety and life enriching experiences. The weather is a huge plus too. I have lived in Albuquerque for 20 years and this Dream Home would be my dream vacation home!
Best of luck to all who enter! For those who dont’ you can always come and visit our enchanting state while you wait for the next Dream Home sweeps.
The next time your selecting a home site, look at the Redding area of Northern California..
After living in the humid heat of Florida, I’m ready for a change – the dry heat of NM. Finally, I’ll be able to purchase affordable house insurance – whew!
I am in there with all the dreamers out there. Reading the blogs keep me informed especialy the ones Dutch posts. Still have questions. Will there be solar panals? Is there green influences?? What about a animal run with doggie door from the garage into run. Its so much fun just being involved with all this dreaming. Lani
I can’t wait to enter. I promised my 6 year old grandson that I would take him to New Mexico the winter of 2010 to go skiing. How much better would it be if we could stay in Grandma’s new house there!!!
New Mexico HGTV Dream Home 2010
Its a wonderful idea and a great location!
I travelled through New Mexico when I was a young adult stepping out on my own. I was enchanted by it’s beauty and it’s people. Absolutely amazing place!! I can’t wait to see what design the team comes up with. And maybe, just maybe call it my new home.
I was hoping for Alaska!! Oh well New Mexico isn’t too bad. Maybe next year!!
I love, love, love this location! Wish I could live there. My home is falling apart and have the 2nd on the way… Looks Fabulous!
It sure would be nice to get out of this Chicago weather. 360 days of sunshine sounds so lovely I believe we get 36…..
What? I would never ever ever live there if you paid me a billion dollars plus gave me a free home! What a dump!
I was hoping it would be in California but New Mexico is also nice i love hot places.
Don’t think I’d like New Mexico unless there was a huge pool and screened in to keep out the bugs and critters – I just don’t see the “dream” in the location – am I the only one who doesn’t get it?
!_!_! Before I even look to find out where the next dream house was being built I said would it be so nice if HGTV build in Arizona or Even in New Mexico and sure enough!!!!!
Thank you HGTV!!!! I live in NEW MEXICO and maybe this time around I’ll be the next hometown WINNER !__!__! Tomiko
I grew up in Albuquerque and loved it! I am living in the midwest now but would love to go home!!!!!!! New Mexico is truelly the Land of Enchantment!!!!!!!!!! You made a bullseye with this choice!
A perfect location! Those of you with the negative comments have no idea how beautiful NM is! Way to go HGTV! I can’t wait to throw my hat in the ring -
Great location New Mexico, great video on the spot picked for the house. When will we see the floor plans?. Also why does Jack like this location?.
I think the location is very lovely. I can see “dream” written all over it. I never thought of a desert location before, but now that I see the area, I agree that it is perfect for the 2010 location. So Dream on and Dream big for the new Dream Home 2010. Good luck to all who try for next years home.
I’ve been traveling and living all over the place. It would be nice to win this home and move back home. I’ve got roots in New Mexico that go back thousands of years.
Will, I have been watching the web cam from day one trying to figure out what the builders are doing. 1st I thought it was a garage but I think I got it. It is a guest house. Commonly know as a know as a Casita in the SW. It couldn’t of been the main house it is too small. If that is what it is, that is a great idea dream team.
You could not have picked a more perfect place, New Mexico is great. I can’t wait to see the next HGTV home being built. I will be all over this one. I live in Arizona and love the west.
This is a unique location. I’m sure whatever the design team does it will be wonderful. I would just hate to move again after winning the Green Home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.! Lets go with that drawing.!!!!!
I love New Mexico, especially Santa Fe and the Sandia Mountain area. You have picked a beautiful area. I cannot wait to move into my new home. Bring it on, Baby.
It’s another GRAND day at San Pedro Overlook! I believe the builder will be pouring the footings on Friday; how exciting! To the Naysayers I say thank you for your comments, they are appreciated and of course the Dream Home give-away cannot be all things to all people. However, if you have not had a chance to visit the East Mountains know that it is one of the most beautiful places in the world, it feels like an isolated destination but happens to be within close proximity to Santa Fe & Albuquerque. Can you imagine, hiking, horse back riding, walking, running or biking in a beautiful mountain setting and then being able to dress up and enjoy a fine dinner. Yesterday I had the priviledge of seeing well over 100 cyclist training for various races. Runners start at the beginning of Hwy-14 and run up the green side mountains. Absolutely a great place to live, enjoy peace, quiet and the serenity of the Cibola National Forest from the Dream Home as well as the 634 acre natural preserve with streams, rock outcroppings etc. Then again maybe I’m drinking my own kool-aid as I live here & then again maybe not. Enjoy your day and as Lynn says, “Live the Dream!”
Dutch, that’s good to hear. Too bad the Dream Cam is always so far behind. That means we will probably have to wait until next week to see the work. Since you are pouring footings you must have some drawings. When are you going to share the drawings?
To each his own..
My ex husband was in the air force, so after coming here with him from England, I lived in most areas of the USA.
One place we lived was in Clovis NM.
I fell in love with New Mexico. The clean crisp air, low humidity, open spaces and breathtaking scenery.
The Dream House is 30 min (or miles) from Santa Fe? I can think of no better location.
You can get a thousand years of culture there.
Coming from England, it might be expected that I would gravitate to a place that was “green” But I was never more content, relaxed and happy as I was when I lived in New Mexico.
I pray to win this home.
do you know wat the closest school 2 the house wld b and how long it wld take 2 get there? i cant wait 4 my mom 2 enter again!!!
When my husband and I drove from Belen to Campbell Ranch, it was a nice drive. It can get tricky getting through the pass on I40 to ABQ, in the winter, but is Beautiful. You’d be about halfway, in a triangular layout, between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, and minutes away from a public elementary school, shopping, and the notorious (Wild Hogs) Madrid. I could learn to love it quickly, given work for my husband, and myself, an elementary special ed teacher.
Actually, I enjoy the programs better when the viewers get to vote on the design etc. Perhaps HGTV ought to let the viewers vote on locations also.
Currently living in El Paso, TX. Came here by way of Washington State. Traveled to WA from New York by car, and the same when had to move to TX.
The northeast is more densely populated than the north west and south west. But I have to say….
Montana and the Dakotas were awe inspiring. Washington state Forests reminded me of my youth in the Adirondacks, air still so crisp and fresh. Oregon and Idaho farmland that went on for miles and miles I never knew.
Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico clean dusty cities with their own special kind of beauty. Yep, America is a beautiful country in its diversity, I’m finding that any place here is fine with me.
From a girl raised in the cornfields of IL all I can say is New Mexico truly is the Land of Enchantment. If you haven’t been there then please withhold comments until you can visit or you’ll have to eat your words. I’m serious. The way the shadows of clouds move over the land. The change of color on the mesas as the day progresses. The unending blue, blue sky suspended over an everchanging desert landscape. Mountains. Buttes. Arroyos. High plains. This and more is New Mexico. And I don’t even live there!
That is a very pretty location anyone who wins it will be in heaven. I hope next year for the dream home would be somewhere on the upper east coast like cape cod where I live. Good luck building the home in New Mexico. The sun will be hot.
i’ve never been to New Mexico but my husband, who works for the military, has been to Santa Fe several times and loves it there. We live on the east coast and we are both tired of the allergies, pollen and upper respitory infections that plague us here and would love to move to the Southwest to retire. I watch your programs all the time and read all of your brilliant decorating tips on-line. Can’t wait to see the completed southwestern home.
Sounds like a wonderful place, with lots of sunshine and an artsy atmosphere. I hope you consider Tuscarawas County in Ohio the next time. We have the Appalachian foothills with beautiful views all around. Plenty of experienced builders and Amish culture are here. Plus close to major cities and sports centers.
I can’t wait until you open the entry for this magnificent 2010 Dream Home!
This location is great!!! I love the views. The local comunity is great. So much to do there and to see. Living there would be like a vacation every day. I hope I win this one. This location has it all!!!!!
Sherry-Indiana
I am stoked! This is the best location so far! Looks so serene, hope they have some jobs for therapists because I plan on moving!
Oh, I LOVE NEW MEXICO!! New Mexico is my soul’s home! No kidding, I had dreamed for a long time of going there on vacation and when I put my feet down on New Mexican ground, I have never felt so “at home” with myself as I do there! And a hop and a skip to Abiquiu to one of my favorite artist’s home and hills, Georgia O’Keeffe! What a great place you have chosen for the new house! I’ll be sure to enter every day! That would be a dream come true for me! That desert is so beautiful. I had no idea until I saw it if I’d even LIKE the desert! And I loved it so much it was very hard to leave there! My dh is planning a trip there for us! I’m disabled now and wasn’t at that time I went to NM, but I’ll do whatever I have to do to make another trip to NM in this lifetime! Good going HGTV! And is Mr.
Thomasson from Charlotte, NC, by any chance? If so, his father’s company built my parent’s home in Lansdowne, a subdivision there! A very WELL built home!
I can’t wait to enter the new giveway for the home in New Mexico. I like the having the sun every day. I get my energy from the sun. The location is fanstsic. The location is unbeliveable . The sencery is so beutiful. I enjoy the outside and with all the wonderful greenery to look at. It’s like camping with out having to leave you home. I will be watching everyday to see how the home is being develope.
I would love to live in New Mexico I was there for two weeks and i like the people
It would be nice to have a click link to the dream homes via google maps/earth. Thanks.
I can’t wait to see video’s. The anticipation will be worth the wait.
Question? When do we start to enter for the 2010 dream home? I think New Mexico is a beautful place.I have been there and it is so great place to live, the montains and the cati are just wonderful. I remenber the first time I went there and I was amazed at how the Rocks stood on one another and you would think they would fall but they don’t, it just so pretty, I just wanted to stay and as we drove around a curve, it opened up and there was a town down below us. I could live there forever.
I will not miss one day of entering for this house. I want it so bad I have ask GOD to help me get it!!
May GOD richly bless HGTV for doing the good works to it’s neighbors. I entered in the green home sweepstake. If I didn’t make it there hopefully I will win here. I have been praying for a miracle. My husband is the only one who brings income to this family, he works so hard. If he won’t work, will have not enough. We live with his paycheck to paycheck only. We have been living in fear because our budget can’t squeeze and strecth any longer to pay for our rent. Our rent in the apartment is $1,100.00 if we pay that, we can’t pay the car, if I buy groceries, I can’t pay the utilities. I’m just hoping for a miracle. I pray we could have a free home, and a free car. I lost my job, can’t get a job, I’m pregnant, and my due date is Nov 22, 2009, can’t even afford a crib anymore and we have a 6y/o to feed. I don’t know what to do. Can’t sleep at night, if they take the car since it’s 5 months late, I will not be surprise but what will my husband use his job is so far. All I could say is GOD bless to all.
WOW,This is Fantastic.Ofcourse any home made by Hgtv is spectacular.Who wouldnt want it.Dreams do come true,I’ll just keep holding on… Sooo Exiting HUH?
Now this is the perfect location. My husband has been wanting to move and relocate his business in New Mexico. We want to explore more of our native american history and what better place. I’m looking forward watching the progress and just maybe we’ll be relocating.
I watched the video in a dream state… I have been dreaming of moving to NM for 10 years! After I wiped the drool off my chin, I called to my husband. We’re both really excited. I can’t wait to enter to win this home! I’m an artist and go out there to paint as often as I can – and I’m overdue!
I am thrilled and will go for this one! I am a 49 year old widow who is planning on going back to school in New Mexico and would this just be the icing on the cake. It is beautiful in New Mexico and the people are so friendly. The surrounding are beautiful and it’s clean. I am thrilled!!!!!!
Hazel, have you thought of finding a nonprofit credit councelor to help restructure your debt. You should not have to pay a fee for the help. Try calling the company that services your car loan and negotiate a lower monthly payment. Communicate with the companies you owe money to and let them know that you do not want to default. Let them know you just need to reduce your monthly payments for a year or so. You may be eligible for food stamps. Also, without knowing where you live, is it possible to find safe, clean housing for a little less than $1100 per month? Is there a Habitat for Humanity group in your community? Call them and find out how to apply for a home. It is a path to owning your own home. It is usually a low or no-interest loan. People that qualify are usually living in substandard housing. There are guidelines for how much your family income is etc. I have first hand (but probably outdated) information about Habitat for Humanity because I spent 3 years as a member of the Board of Directors for Habjijax (Habitat for Humanity in Jacksonville)in the late 1990’s. I also built the homes. The families that got them were really happy. It is not a giveaway program. You will have a mortgage, but will be purchasing your home rather than renting.
With the current drop in home prices, find a realtor that is good at finding alternative or creative financing and ask her to find you a foreclosure. Or ask her to show you homes offering “Seller Financing”‘ That means you don’t get a loan from a bank, you just make payments directly to the seller instead. I am in commercial real estate but am aware that there are some real opportunities now. What ever you do, do not allow your car to be repossessed!! You will really set your family back as far as trying to qualify for a home mortgage. On a modest home, your mortgage payment could be less than you are paying for rent!!
Since you posted at 1:30 am, maybe you were so worried you could not sleep and just wanted to vent. So maybe you really weren’t looking for advice from a stranger, but I couldn’t help commenting. Most people on this post are fantisizing about the big dream home and that is great, but it sounds like you need a real solution, and sooner rather than later in 2010.
I do not wish you luck, I wish you strength to reach out and find a solution, the character to not let your family fail, peace of mind as you work toward your goal and a happy, healthy baby !
You mentioned how nice it would be to have a free home and vehicle, it would be. But the winner of these prizes have to pay the taxes on them. That’s still workable. Sell the prizes, pay the taxes and invest the remainder in a smaller, more manageable home.
I think you have really hit the nail on the
head. This may be the best site ever.
I love all the dream homes and have been waiting three years for a chance to live in a dream home…new mexico rocks !!!really!!!
I can’t beleive the 2010 Dream Home is going to be in New Mexico! I live in Albuquerque and it is truly beautiful! Whoever wins the home will really enjoy the incredible sunsets and climate. Good luck and May God Bless.
New Mexico is a wonderful choice. I look forward to seeing some authentic style adobe and beautiful log woods and with a solar flare. This is a “Dream Green” opportunity here. Just wonderful.
a person like me, with rheumatoid arthritis, would feel better in the southwest, so when i just learned the dream home will be in NM in 2010, i was ecstatic. we took our kids to NM in 1985 and have dreamed about this area ever since! a girl can dream, yes?
the location of my dreams since 1985! i’m hopefully ecstatic!
WOW I am so disappointed. I was so wishing that this year HGTV would undertake a renovation projec in the inter city. A condo/loft revitalization project. You cannot get any greener that preserving what already exist.
Oooh wow!! 0_O New Mexico is such a beauty… all my older brothers and sister live out there. my mom would just LOVE to be out there, since we just live in Arizona. Such a lovely area^^oh gosh.. might just enter for my parents. My mom and have always watched much HGTV shows! Since being native (navajo) im happy that its all about being eco friendly cause in much tradition is showing respect for our mother earth! IM SO.. grr.. EXCITED!!!!
whoever wins this home you deserve it! :]
A great place to take advantage of solar power! What are the plans as far as energy efficiency?
I think New Mexico is a wonderful and beautiful place for the 2010 Dream Home location. I have passed through New Mexico and love it’s history and culture. I entered the 2009 Green Home Sweepstakes everyday online, but wasn’t fortunate enough to win. Wining a home, whether Green or Dream, would be a fabulous dream come true for a single lady like me. please let me know when I can enter the contest and Thanks HGTV-I love and admire you all!!!
It appear to be a grand place to live. How good is New Mexico for those who suffer with allergies?
JUST SOME COOL IDEAS FOR THE NEW DREAM HOME;
a hand-made fish pond with a rock fountain and a nice big swimming pool.I can’t wait till this is home is finished. Do we have to wait all the way till next year before we can start entering? Could u give us more info on that.
When can I move in Ha-Ha~ I could live with sunshine 300 days of the year, I live in Washington State right now and I am getting web feet from all the rain we have.
HGTV take me someplace warm!
i’m sure this will be a beautiful home. i was disappointed when i didnt win the florida home as was my 5 yr old grandaughter. she said g.m we entered every day. lol WE will continue to enter everyday for the next one. i have been to new mexico. this area it is beautiful. im excited about it.
WOW !!! Breathtaking View Thanks, Mary
The only way I handle the dissapointment each time we don’t win is the fact that there are 1 or 2 more in the works. I can’t find the plans for the 2010 dream home. Have they been put on the internet yet? Thank you for the enjoyment I have by watching each day the changes.
I grew up about 4 hours south of the Dream Home location in Alamogordo, NM. When I saw that the dream home location was in New Mexico I blew a gasket. I loved living in the southwest. The warm weather is fantastic. There is SO much to do, be it hiking, museums, or shopping. Let me tell you, nothing compares to the sight of mountains. I miss the mountains. We have none where I live. Just a flat city that's frigid in the winter and muggy in the summer. I, too, am really excited. I can't wait to see what more is in store. ^_^
I hope you are putting in a swimming pool on this Dream Home project?
The winner(s) will need it for that special once in a lifetime homecoming pool party in the backyard, overlooking the San Pedro Mountain range, for their first weekend of viewing those magnificent New Mexico sunsets.
Hi everyone! I found this article to be particularly interesting…to think that this was taking place long BEFORE the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock! Here is an excerpt from an article I read:
Imagine stepping out of your living room into a void of several thousand feet. Or having to tote water and supplies to your home several thousand feet up sheer cliffs. That was the scenario for many pre-Pueblo people who lived in New Mexico.
Seeking out a place relatively safe from enemies and wild animals, they somehow clambered up these inhospitable rugged cliffs and carved out homes where they stayed for periods ranging from a few years to several hundred.
By about the 1300s, most of the people living in the cliff dwellings had disappeared, probably to be absorbed into pueblo cultures. Wooden beams and thatched roofs have deteriorated over the centuries, but the foundations and walls of hundreds of these cliff dwellings remain, some still undiscovered in New Mexico's remote mountains. Many are on private property and inaccessible to visitors, but there are several of these fascinating places available for you to visit.

Living the Dream!
(continued)
Following are three ancient cliff dwellings which are open to the public.
Gila Cliff Dwellings (about two hours north of Silver City)
Bandelier National Monument (near Los Alamos and Santa Fe)
Puye Cliff Dwellings (10 miles east of Puye)
So, when you go to visit the HGTV Dream Home 2010 in San Pedro Overlook, why not take a couple of road trips along the way? I know I will!
Living the Dream!
P.S. Dutch, have you been to any of these ancient cliff dwellings?
What happened? We're on Page 23??? How much posting have you been doing lately, Lynn Coggin?!
I've been to the impressive Sinagua (without water) Indian cliff dwellings of Montezuma Castle in Arizona, and to the Taos Pueblo in New Mexico, but have not visited the other cliff dwellings you named in New Mexico. That would be a great driving destination. So much to see and do—stop, shop, until you drop!
Happy Turquoise Trails
Born and raised New Mexican. Is a very beautiful place. Happy to know the 2010 Dream Home will be here. Can't wait to see it finished. Good to all who join to win it. including me
What a beautiful idea. Home of the ancients! Have the water wars started out there yet? Where does their water come from? It should be anyones “Dream” winter home. Hope it’s all solar cooling in the summer and ambient solar heating in the winter.
You have warmed my heart, New Mexico, how nice. Good going.
What a beautiful place. I applaud all the choices so far as they each have their definite appeal. I have entered for 3 years now and I will continue to do so. What a wonderful place to retire!!
Upon reading some of the comments, I thought the one about about revitilization was an interesting thought.
Don’t forget a pool in this one!!!!!! A lady can dream can’t she!!!!
This is something I want to throw out there for it to be considered, Please, Please, for all those that have outside pets, and love them dearly,… myself, I have two cats that are family, Would you please ,think of building a small little building for their beds at night , some where in the back yard , it could even double as a storage building, I don’t know much about that area , and what kind of wild life would pose a deadly danger, It could be something cute and not take away the beauty from the home to much. Just asking in case you haven’t thought of this, they are apart of peoples lives. It would be more important to me than a swimming pool, many thanks,
Hei everyone.
I have something to say, about AloeVera, something about which you wrote above, about health and vitamins… For a long time, I and my good friend use the products of the forever living products company. We each time see the nice results and also we make money for our families and we are happy. My friend works with Aloe in the company of Forever Living Products has more than 5 years (My friend works ONLY in the Forever Living Company and has a wife and three children). I know aloevera products for beauty for a long time, but a year ago, began working as a distributor in the FLP.
Of course, this job is some difficult, but in no other case, you really can earn so much money with so much much fun and good smiling faces around…
So if you want to discuss something about your article, and about my experience with Aloe vera products for personal care, I’ll always be glad to talk.
Best regards from Seattle and have a nice day!
