After living in the humid heat of Florida, I’m ready for a change – the dry heat of NM. Finally, I’ll be able to purchase affordable house insurance – whew!
I am in there with all the dreamers out there. Reading the blogs keep me informed especialy the ones Dutch posts. Still have questions. Will there be solar panals? Is there green influences?? What about a animal run with doggie door from the garage into run. Its so much fun just being involved with all this dreaming. Lani
I can’t wait to enter. I promised my 6 year old grandson that I would take him to New Mexico the winter of 2010 to go skiing. How much better would it be if we could stay in Grandma’s new house there!!!
New Mexico HGTV Dream Home 2010
Its a wonderful idea and a great location!
I travelled through New Mexico when I was a young adult stepping out on my own. I was enchanted by it’s beauty and it’s people. Absolutely amazing place!! I can’t wait to see what design the team comes up with. And maybe, just maybe call it my new home.
I was hoping for Alaska!! Oh well New Mexico isn’t too bad. Maybe next year!!
I love, love, love this location! Wish I could live there. My home is falling apart and have the 2nd on the way… Looks Fabulous!
It sure would be nice to get out of this Chicago weather. 360 days of sunshine sounds so lovely I believe we get 36…..
!_!_! Before I even look to find out where the next dream house was being built I said would it be so nice if HGTV build in Arizona or Even in New Mexico and sure enough!!!!!
Thank you HGTV!!!! I live in NEW MEXICO and maybe this time around I'll be the next hometown WINNER !__!__! Tomiko
What? I would never ever ever live there if you paid me a billion dollars plus gave me a free home! What a dump!
I was hoping it would be in California but New Mexico is also nice i love hot places.
Don’t think I’d like New Mexico unless there was a huge pool and screened in to keep out the bugs and critters – I just don’t see the “dream” in the location – am I the only one who doesn’t get it?
I grew up in Albuquerque and loved it! I am living in the midwest now but would love to go home!!!!!!! New Mexico is truelly the Land of Enchantment!!!!!!!!!! You made a bullseye with this choice!
A perfect location! Those of you with the negative comments have no idea how beautiful NM is! Way to go HGTV! I can’t wait to throw my hat in the ring -
Great location New Mexico, great video on the spot picked for the house. When will we see the floor plans?. Also why does Jack like this location?.
I think the location is very lovely. I can see “dream” written all over it. I never thought of a desert location before, but now that I see the area, I agree that it is perfect for the 2010 location. So Dream on and Dream big for the new Dream Home 2010. Good luck to all who try for next years home.
I’ve been traveling and living all over the place. It would be nice to win this home and move back home. I’ve got roots in New Mexico that go back thousands of years.
Will, I have been watching the web cam from day one trying to figure out what the builders are doing. 1st I thought it was a garage but I think I got it. It is a guest house. Commonly know as a know as a Casita in the SW. It couldn’t of been the main house it is too small. If that is what it is, that is a great idea dream team.
You could not have picked a more perfect place, New Mexico is great. I can’t wait to see the next HGTV home being built. I will be all over this one. I live in Arizona and love the west.
This is a unique location. I’m sure whatever the design team does it will be wonderful. I would just hate to move again after winning the Green Home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.! Lets go with that drawing.!!!!!
I love New Mexico, especially Santa Fe and the Sandia Mountain area. You have picked a beautiful area. I cannot wait to move into my new home. Bring it on, Baby.
It’s another GRAND day at San Pedro Overlook! I believe the builder will be pouring the footings on Friday; how exciting! To the Naysayers I say thank you for your comments, they are appreciated and of course the Dream Home give-away cannot be all things to all people. However, if you have not had a chance to visit the East Mountains know that it is one of the most beautiful places in the world, it feels like an isolated destination but happens to be within close proximity to Santa Fe & Albuquerque. Can you imagine, hiking, horse back riding, walking, running or biking in a beautiful mountain setting and then being able to dress up and enjoy a fine dinner. Yesterday I had the priviledge of seeing well over 100 cyclist training for various races. Runners start at the beginning of Hwy-14 and run up the green side mountains. Absolutely a great place to live, enjoy peace, quiet and the serenity of the Cibola National Forest from the Dream Home as well as the 634 acre natural preserve with streams, rock outcroppings etc. Then again maybe I’m drinking my own kool-aid as I live here & then again maybe not. Enjoy your day and as Lynn says, “Live the Dream!”
Dutch, that’s good to hear. Too bad the Dream Cam is always so far behind. That means we will probably have to wait until next week to see the work. Since you are pouring footings you must have some drawings. When are you going to share the drawings?
To each his own..
My ex husband was in the air force, so after coming here with him from England, I lived in most areas of the USA.
One place we lived was in Clovis NM.
I fell in love with New Mexico. The clean crisp air, low humidity, open spaces and breathtaking scenery.
The Dream House is 30 min (or miles) from Santa Fe? I can think of no better location.
You can get a thousand years of culture there.
Coming from England, it might be expected that I would gravitate to a place that was “green” But I was never more content, relaxed and happy as I was when I lived in New Mexico.
I pray to win this home.
do you know wat the closest school 2 the house wld b and how long it wld take 2 get there? i cant wait 4 my mom 2 enter again!!!
When my husband and I drove from Belen to Campbell Ranch, it was a nice drive. It can get tricky getting through the pass on I40 to ABQ, in the winter, but is Beautiful. You’d be about halfway, in a triangular layout, between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, and minutes away from a public elementary school, shopping, and the notorious (Wild Hogs) Madrid. I could learn to love it quickly, given work for my husband, and myself, an elementary special ed teacher.
Actually, I enjoy the programs better when the viewers get to vote on the design etc. Perhaps HGTV ought to let the viewers vote on locations also.
Currently living in El Paso, TX. Came here by way of Washington State. Traveled to WA from New York by car, and the same when had to move to TX.
The northeast is more densely populated than the north west and south west. But I have to say….
Montana and the Dakotas were awe inspiring. Washington state Forests reminded me of my youth in the Adirondacks, air still so crisp and fresh. Oregon and Idaho farmland that went on for miles and miles I never knew.
Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico clean dusty cities with their own special kind of beauty. Yep, America is a beautiful country in its diversity, I’m finding that any place here is fine with me.
From a girl raised in the cornfields of IL all I can say is New Mexico truly is the Land of Enchantment. If you haven’t been there then please withhold comments until you can visit or you’ll have to eat your words. I’m serious. The way the shadows of clouds move over the land. The change of color on the mesas as the day progresses. The unending blue, blue sky suspended over an everchanging desert landscape. Mountains. Buttes. Arroyos. High plains. This and more is New Mexico. And I don’t even live there!
That is a very pretty location anyone who wins it will be in heaven. I hope next year for the dream home would be somewhere on the upper east coast like cape cod where I live. Good luck building the home in New Mexico. The sun will be hot.
i’ve never been to New Mexico but my husband, who works for the military, has been to Santa Fe several times and loves it there. We live on the east coast and we are both tired of the allergies, pollen and upper respitory infections that plague us here and would love to move to the Southwest to retire. I watch your programs all the time and read all of your brilliant decorating tips on-line. Can’t wait to see the completed southwestern home.
Sounds like a wonderful place, with lots of sunshine and an artsy atmosphere. I hope you consider Tuscarawas County in Ohio the next time. We have the Appalachian foothills with beautiful views all around. Plenty of experienced builders and Amish culture are here. Plus close to major cities and sports centers.
I can’t wait until you open the entry for this magnificent 2010 Dream Home!
This location is great!!! I love the views. The local comunity is great. So much to do there and to see. Living there would be like a vacation every day. I hope I win this one. This location has it all!!!!!

I am stoked! This is the best location so far! Looks so serene, hope they have some jobs for therapists because I plan on moving!
Oh, I LOVE NEW MEXICO!! New Mexico is my soul’s home! No kidding, I had dreamed for a long time of going there on vacation and when I put my feet down on New Mexican ground, I have never felt so “at home” with myself as I do there! And a hop and a skip to Abiquiu to one of my favorite artist’s home and hills, Georgia O’Keeffe! What a great place you have chosen for the new house! I’ll be sure to enter every day! That would be a dream come true for me! That desert is so beautiful. I had no idea until I saw it if I’d even LIKE the desert! And I loved it so much it was very hard to leave there! My dh is planning a trip there for us! I’m disabled now and wasn’t at that time I went to NM, but I’ll do whatever I have to do to make another trip to NM in this lifetime! Good going HGTV! And is Mr.
Thomasson from Charlotte, NC, by any chance? If so, his father’s company built my parent’s home in Lansdowne, a subdivision there! A very WELL built home!
I can’t wait to enter the new giveway for the home in New Mexico. I like the having the sun every day. I get my energy from the sun. The location is fanstsic. The location is unbeliveable . The sencery is so beutiful. I enjoy the outside and with all the wonderful greenery to look at. It’s like camping with out having to leave you home. I will be watching everyday to see how the home is being develope.
I would love to live in New Mexico I was there for two weeks and i like the people
It would be nice to have a click link to the dream homes via google maps/earth. Thanks.
I can’t wait to see video’s. The anticipation will be worth the wait.
Question? When do we start to enter for the 2010 dream home? I think New Mexico is a beautful place.I have been there and it is so great place to live, the montains and the cati are just wonderful. I remenber the first time I went there and I was amazed at how the Rocks stood on one another and you would think they would fall but they don’t, it just so pretty, I just wanted to stay and as we drove around a curve, it opened up and there was a town down below us. I could live there forever.
I will not miss one day of entering for this house. I want it so bad I have ask GOD to help me get it!!
May GOD richly bless HGTV for doing the good works to it's neighbors. I entered in the green home sweepstake. If I didn't make it there hopefully I will win here. I have been praying for a miracle. My husband is the only one who brings income to this family, he works so hard. If he won't work, will have not enough. We live with his paycheck to paycheck only. We have been living in fear because our budget can't squeeze and strecth any longer to pay for our rent. Our rent in the apartment is $1,100.00 if we pay that, we can't pay the car, if I buy groceries, I can't pay the utilities. I'm just hoping for a miracle. I pray we could have a free home, and a free car. I lost my job, can't get a job, I'm pregnant, and my due date is Nov 22, 2009, can't even afford a crib anymore and we have a 6y/o to feed. I don't know what to do. Can't sleep at night, if they take the car since it's 5 months late, I will not be surprise but what will my husband use his job is so far. All I could say is GOD bless to all.
WOW,This is Fantastic.Ofcourse any home made by Hgtv is spectacular.Who wouldnt want it.Dreams do come true,I’ll just keep holding on… Sooo Exiting HUH?
I am thrilled and will go for this one! I am a 49 year old widow who is planning on going back to school in New Mexico and would this just be the icing on the cake. It is beautiful in New Mexico and the people are so friendly. The surrounding are beautiful and it's clean. I am thrilled!!!!!!
Now this is the perfect location. My husband has been wanting to move and relocate his business in New Mexico. We want to explore more of our native american history and what better place. I’m looking forward watching the progress and just maybe we’ll be relocating.
I watched the video in a dream state… I have been dreaming of moving to NM for 10 years! After I wiped the drool off my chin, I called to my husband. We’re both really excited. I can’t wait to enter to win this home! I’m an artist and go out there to paint as often as I can – and I’m overdue!
Hazel, have you thought of finding a nonprofit credit councelor to help restructure your debt. You should not have to pay a fee for the help. Try calling the company that services your car loan and negotiate a lower monthly payment. Communicate with the companies you owe money to and let them know that you do not want to default. Let them know you just need to reduce your monthly payments for a year or so. You may be eligible for food stamps. Also, without knowing where you live, is it possible to find safe, clean housing for a little less than $1100 per month? Is there a Habitat for Humanity group in your community? Call them and find out how to apply for a home. It is a path to owning your own home. It is usually a low or no-interest loan. People that qualify are usually living in substandard housing. There are guidelines for how much your family income is etc. I have first hand (but probably outdated) information about Habitat for Humanity because I spent 3 years as a member of the Board of Directors for Habjijax (Habitat for Humanity in Jacksonville)in the late 1990′s. I also built the homes. The families that got them were really happy. It is not a giveaway program. You will have a mortgage, but will be purchasing your home rather than renting.
With the current drop in home prices, find a realtor that is good at finding alternative or creative financing and ask her to find you a foreclosure. Or ask her to show you homes offering “Seller Financing”‘ That means you don’t get a loan from a bank, you just make payments directly to the seller instead. I am in commercial real estate but am aware that there are some real opportunities now. What ever you do, do not allow your car to be repossessed!! You will really set your family back as far as trying to qualify for a home mortgage. On a modest home, your mortgage payment could be less than you are paying for rent!!
Since you posted at 1:30 am, maybe you were so worried you could not sleep and just wanted to vent. So maybe you really weren’t looking for advice from a stranger, but I couldn’t help commenting. Most people on this post are fantisizing about the big dream home and that is great, but it sounds like you need a real solution, and sooner rather than later in 2010.
I do not wish you luck, I wish you strength to reach out and find a solution, the character to not let your family fail, peace of mind as you work toward your goal and a happy, healthy baby !
You mentioned how nice it would be to have a free home and vehicle, it would be. But the winner of these prizes have to pay the taxes on them. That’s still workable. Sell the prizes, pay the taxes and invest the remainder in a smaller, more manageable home.
I think you have really hit the nail on the
head. This may be the best site ever.
I love all the dream homes and have been waiting three years for a chance to live in a dream home…new mexico rocks !!!really!!!
I can’t beleive the 2010 Dream Home is going to be in New Mexico! I live in Albuquerque and it is truly beautiful! Whoever wins the home will really enjoy the incredible sunsets and climate. Good luck and May God Bless.
