I See Windows!
And could that be a driveway I see wrapping around to the back of HGTV Dream Home 2010? Check out the Dream Cam for the latest construction site photos — new pics were uploaded this morning!

Yeah, Mary! Thanks for posting updated pictures. I see and love the windows! So excited about this home. Can't wait to see it decorated!
It looks so empty around the house, I don't see any neighbors. I love the mix of being in a community but also having so many arces to yourself! I would love to live in this dream home!
Jessirose, I sure understand why you'd enjoy living in this Dream Home! The total number of entries will probably exceed any other Dream Home, even my beloved Dream Home in the Keys.
Hope all is going well for you.
The sunroom, and master suite are wonderful,… Mary will there be a fireplace between the two rooms?
Sagg99, a fireplace between the sunroom and master suite would be nice. Well maybe not . Why would you want to leave that space other than to get something to eat or run errands?
A fireplace there may make it difficult to enjoy the rest of the Dream Home.
Okay, I was just watching an old dream home episode and they gave away like $200,000! did they do that last time? Will they do that this time?
Jessirose, They didn't give $200,00 to the Sonoma Dream Home winner or the Florida Dream Home winner. Maybe mortgage companies will be in healthy financial shape by the time the New Mexico Dream Home is given away and the winner will receive $200,000.
Wouldn't that be nice!
Good morning everyone!
Well, now……I do believe our HGTV Desert Sand Castle Dream Home is going to be magnificent…like a sand sculpture with spectacular views!
Oh, I can't wait to see it! Mary, thanks for sharing!
Living the Dream!
P.S. And, how about those sliders…out to the patio with the hot tub/spa?
OOhhh! And an outdoor kiva fireplace?
Hot tub? Spa? Do tell!
I not only see windows, I see blue sky, fluffy white clouds and beautiful sunsets. Thanks Mary.
It's exciting to see it come together, but somehow it looks very sad all brown and boarded up. Could somebody please go up there and put a potted plant of vibrantly colored flowers next to it or something. It's lonely. Needs, color, life, love…….. please don't let it suffer
It wants to be beautiful right now!
i agree with you, it looks lonely now and it needs color, life, let's wait until they finish it, i'm sure it will look lovely ater they finish building it.
Thank you, Mary for posting new updates its so pretty and also
looks like to be like Sonoma DH gorgeous big, pretty and well decorated again thanks for every thing you 're showing to us and motivate to still dreaming ~.~
As a native New Mexican I was wondering when HGTV was going to discover the Land of Enchantment. The plans to the house are very nice; little trendy maybe but nice. Some great views; the place needs to be well built and insulated. East side of the Sandias gets all the snow. Better like being occassionally snowed in and own a 4-wheel drive with a wench. Learn to shop in bulk. Comutting to either Santa Fe or Albuquerque can prove to be problematic at times. Great place if you work at home. Don't count on cable for an internet connection. DSL would be your best bet. Thats something the developers might want to consider adding due to the location. Even with all the drawbacks of the location, I would still love to win this place. I'm really homesick and would love to get back home again especially if I had a place like this to come home to every night.
That snowed in talk makes it sound even better ,love to snowmobile,doesnt sound any different from where im living now.We are stuck with one phone company and cell phones dont work here.Thats an idea have this house come with all the toys to survive the outback two 4wheelers 2snowmobiles,snowblower and golf cart.YESSS
Homesick, thanks for the info. It's always to have local input.
Homesick, My bad! Meant to say, "It's always GOOD to have local input." Watching the Buick Open. Guess I can't do two things at one time.
On the practical side of life, if you just need a few groceries, Triangle Grocery Store in Sandia Park stocks many of your daily needs as well as a few more and they are comparably priced to your major chains. Also, Edgewood has really grown over the past couple of years in that it now has more than a few major chain stores. Now, as long as you have the 4 wheel drive, you will be ok when there is a good snow storm. The commute to Santa Fe on N 14 is still a little hairy though!
I'm glad to hear Edgewood is finally growing in ways other than just overflow from Albuquerque. Are the kids still bussed into Albuquerque for school or is there finally enough demand to build schools in the canyon?
There are schools in both Edgewood and Sandia Park! And, get this, Edgewood even has a library now! I confess, I am a bibliophile!
Dear Mary: Thank you very much for the new post and the updated CAM!! It is wonderful to see the Dream Home take shape. The windows are the homes eyes, and through those eyes we can see the future! A future filled with the Sandia Mountains where we can do some hiking, mountain biking, and skiing in the winter. WOW! Or, just sit back with a glass of your favorite vino and enjoy the glowing watermelon colors displayed during sunset (the word sandia is spanish for watermelon)!!

Dear Homesick: Thank you for your input. Cable connections are important, and I certainly hope the developers are listening to what you are saying. Of course, HGTV would more than likely make sure they are 'up to snuff' 'cause they definitely want us to continue watching our most favorite shows like: 'Deserving Design', 'My Big Amazing Renovation' , 'Hidden Potential', 'What You Get For Your Money', 'Rock Solid', 'House Hunters', 'Desparate to Buy', 'Color Correction', 'My First Place', 'Design on a Dime', 'Spice up my Kitchen', and who could forget, 'Design Star?"
Oops! Forgot a few of most favorite shows: 'Dear Genevieve', 'Myles of Styles', 'Color Splash', and the best of the best, 'Divine Design with Candice Olson'!!!!!
The more I read, the more I learn about the things that can be enjoyed in Albuquerque!! Did you realize that year after year Albuquerque is ranked as a favorite arts destination by American Style magazine? Winning the DH2010 would give us ample time to experience all these wonderful attributes:
Arts, Galleries & Theaters;
Balloon Rides & Air Adventures;
Museums, Cultural & Historical Centers;
Nature Centers, Gardens, & Zoos;
Sports & Outdoors;
Tours & Sightseeing;
Wine & Culinary ; and
especially Recreation & Leisure!!!!
Wow, I sure would like to win this HGTV Dream Home! I love Albuquerque. My daughter lived there and attended UNM, then stayed after graduation, and worked at the Air Force Base. I enjoyed visiting her; the climate is great, and it is a perfect place for artists of all kinds. Maybe I will win… I hope so. Thanks for the updates, Mary.
Hi everyone! Very rainy day here in PA…looks like I'll have to stay inside all day and watch HGTV!!!!!
I had a very special request from Kat over at the Green Home blog to encourage all of us Dream Home bloggers to head over to the GH blog and take a look at all of the great information over there. I know most of the bloggers here check out both, but, just in case, I wanted to mention the Green Home blog is loaded with lots of fun details about both being green and the Green Home 2010 in Plymouth, Massachusetts!
See you here, there, and everywhere in HGTV land!
Living the Dream!
Hi LynnCoggin: Thank you for the encouragement for everyone in HGTV land!
Did you get to see Design Star last night? WOW! Our very own Oregonian, Dan (the man) Vickery, had the most fabulous White Room design!! It was GREAT!! Vern felt that Dan’s deconstruction of the orchard was “the single, most well-executed, most well-thought out response” to the white room challenge!! Congratulations Dan!! It was amazing to me how all the designers found inspiration from apples, oranges and dog food!! From orange slice chandelier and milk-striped walls, to eclectic design, it was a fun show! My most favorite comment was from Candice for Tories's Young, eclectic design! She said it was “crazy good”!! Isn't that terrific?
Hi MarieMiller! Not only did I watch Design Star last night, but my husband watched it with me (and, truth be told, I also called a few friends and told them to watch)! "Crazy Good" were perfect words to describe this show. As I said on a different post, I was mesmerized by the flooring options the designers used…genius! For those who may have missed it, it will be replayed this evening at 10:00pm Eastern Time.
After I returned home from work this afternoon, I went over to the Design Star blog to watch David's vlog of his thoughts on the show. He is "crazy good" as well! Love, love, love him! After viewing his thoughts, I went back and watched the first Design Star season when they did the White Rooms and David Bromstad won it big! I can't believe how the designers seem to have stepped it up this year as there were so many great ideas…fascinating! Marie, go back and take a look. You can see full episodes of past years. I watched while I was eating a late lunch…very entertaining!
Living the Dream!
In the meantime, not that Linda and Jack need any help with shopping but I did run across a little gallery I would love to go take a look at in Sandia Park. Here is the address and brief description:
Gallery of the Sandias
12220 North Highway 14
Sandia Park, NM 87047
Hidden among the pines in the East Mountains is the community of Sandia Park. A little known jewel of this community is the Gallery of the Sandias, where you can find a array of art, jewelry, weavings and local crafts. The selection ranges from traditional Nativce American art, to local folk art. Original paintings and signed and numbered prints cover one wall, and the glasss cases are sprinkled with sterling silver and turquoise jewelry. An assortment of African art shares shelf space with locally-crafted wood carvings of cowboys in various dispensations of duty.
Maybe some of the signed and dated prints and local crafts will be just what they are looking for to decorate our wonderful contemporary pueblo…that is…if they're not going to do all of their shopping at the local supermarket!
Living the Dream!
Lynn Coggin, have you heard anything about your Super Fan audition video? Seems like a decision should be made by now. But with HGTV, timing is everything!
It's August. Wonder if they are helping diynetwork.com roll out their Blog Cabin sweepstakes?
I'm so excited about this home. I spent a little time snooping around to try and get a "Google Earth" view of the site. If predictions about Phase 2 Site 87 are right, this home looks to sit exactly right on an oddly shaped 3.10 acres. That driveway helped me figure out that the sun room faces east, while the back patio will allow for unobstructed north/west views of the Sandia sunsets. It appears as though the front door faces south.

If you check out the area in google earth, (Search for the San Pedro Overlook Clubhouse) the ground level pictures show just a couple inches of snow on the ground, and the area looks lovely.
Sbfaye11, thanks for the info. I'll check out the site.
This home will probably be one of the best ever!
Hey Lynn Coggin: Thank you for the tips regarding last years Design Stars tips! I just might review the ones with David again as I think he is the bomb!! I like watching his show just to see him flex his muscles! Oops, is that alright to say here, or will HGTV screen this out while my comment is awaiting moderation? I am also wondering about your Super Fan audition video? And, will they release thos videos for the fans to vote on? P.S. You have my vote!!

While waiting for a new post, I've been lost in 'La La Land' near our georgeous DH2010! Dreaming of dining at the only restaurant at the tope of Sandia Park!! WOW!! "TWO MILES HIGH, no other restaurant offers such a unique mode of transportation to get to a dining destination. The 2.7 mile tram ride takes you through several climate zones on your way to the restaurant. Dining at 10,378' in elevation with views of over 11,000 square miles is worth the trip in itself."
"But wait! The food and atmosphere are also worth the trip. View the fine wood-work and the gorgeous bar, while you enjoy our award winning menu. The lunch fare consists of half-pound burgers and other tasty sandwiches, or try some of the chef's favorite pastas. The extensive dinner menu will satisfy the most traveled diner. From pasta to prime rib, we guarantee an excellent meal."
"The Sandia Peak Tramway and dinner at High Finance is a must for any visitor, but locals also love to take a staycation and enjoy getting out of town and relaxing with a great meal!!"
Okay LynnCoggin: Tell me, do you have to sign up for 'Google Earth?' I've tried to check out the San Pedro Overlook Clubhouse, and the ground level pictures showing the snow on the ground, etc. without success. What is your secret?

Oh Boy!!! The bedroom windows look out over THE STREET AND THE NEXTDOOR NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE instead of out over the mountains.
Good morning MarieMiller! Oh, yes, those muscles…dreamy, for sure!
On another note, thanks for your vote of confidence! I can't imagine they haven't already chosen someone…but I'm still listening for my phone to ring!
I wish they would let people vote…my five children keep asking me when they should put it back on their facebooks so that their friends can vote for me…LOL! Back in March, when I sent the audition in, they put the link on their facebooks and I couldn't believe the amount of people that sent me e-mails and called me…people I haven't heard from in a long time! My inbox at one time had over 200 messages and our phone was ringing off of the hook! I think they thought I had already won! Pretty fun for me! Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed….and toes too! Thanks again Marie!
Living the Dream!
P.S. Lessie – I'll be sure to keep you posted about the Super Fan for sure! You guys would certainly be the first ones to know if I get a call! Thanks again for asking about it!
Well, LynnCoggin: We have our answer…SUPER FAN GAIL will still be with us the next year!! While I'm extremely happy to have her back, I'm dissappointed that you were not picked…there is always next year!
Anyway, I tried to leave a comment on the new post & it said what I was looking for was not found…WEIRD!!
__As someone who moved to New Mexico, "The Land of Enchantment" (Albuquerque), from Milwaukee via Minneapolis over 18 years ago, there is no place else I would ever choose to live! It is so exciting to have the 2010 Dream Home so close! However I must ask, just when does the HG begin the contest for a chance to win what will surely be one of the most fantastic Dream Homes?
Lynn Coggin: As Marie couldn't leave a message on the new "thread", I am posting my comment here. While we all love Gail and HGTV, I will try to put this delicately: You have been a wealth of information about the Dream Home's location, design, etc……maybe too much. Do you get what I mean? I sincerely hope we don't lose you as a blogger. I really feel there is something coming up for you career wise that you will enjoy. Good luck and please keep blogging.
What a beautiful site for a Dream home. I lived in Albuquerque while my dad was in the military, When we first got there, we also thought how brown it was and thought we would hate it. Little did we know that we would all come to love it, miss it, and now have Southwestern decor in our homes. I would love to win this house so my family could visit and recapture the great times we spent in the area. Jemez is one of our favorite places. Oh how i miss the culture, the sky, the mountains, and the food. Can't wait to start registering for a chance to win this beautiful home. Kathy
Katydid – Thank you so much! I have so enjoyed blogging with you and the others over the past few months! As I have said before, I read this blog for a long time and I am so glad I jumped in and met all of the bloggers! Hopefully, someday, we will all meet in person!?!?!?!
I wish Gail the very best…she is truly a Super Super Fan and, for sure, deserves another year! I look so forward to reading all of her blogs and viewing all of her vlogs. I'll consider it homework for 2010!

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but the dream cam has been updated to August 6. The windows are in & they are beginning to wrap the house with stucco paper.
Very nice, Mary!! I like how it is all coming together!! New Mexico is a beautiful state!! The Dream Home coming to life is great!! To keep up the spirit of New Mexico, a fun fact is famous animator William Hanna, of Hanna-Barbera, was born in Melrose, New Mexico on July 14, 1910! Hanna-Barbera is responsible for such hit cartoons as Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, The Jetsons, Jabberjaw, The Smurfs and Josie and the Pussycats.
thank you for the information, thumbs up for you.
Also, Mr. Hanna born in New Mexico, of Hanna-Barbera, was also partly responsible for Scooby-Doo! The legendary Great Dane turns 40 years old next month! I like how two long stables in cable, Hanna-Barbera cartoons and HGTV, come together!!
MarieMiller:
You have to download and install the program from earth.google.com. It's not the same as maps. You can find all sorts of interesting things in your own area as well as all over the world. I once lived in the neighborhood where the house from Ferris Bueller's Day Off was, and I never would have know without google earth!
Phillippeterson: with a lot as big as this one, I'm thinking there's a little elbow room between houses and streets. I like that the bedrooms won't be getting hit with afternoon sun, which I'm suffering through right now. I also like that the great room and patio area will showcase the view. I spend most of my time in the bedroom face down in a pillow, anyway!
I'm hoping they're wrapping up the Dream Home in gift wrap, tying a ribbon around it, then sending me a New Year's card to let me know I'm the 2010 SPO Sweepstakes winner! HGTV can even send the card a little early, and I can help put in my 2 cents worth with the interior decoration and landscaping. Wouldn't they just love that!
Back to reality, we still have over four months of anticipation to go before we can begin entering to win this beautiful home. I think I can manage to wait it out, as long as GAIL is going to be visiting with us in the blogs on a regular basis.
Happy Turquoise Trails!
Nice try Coop. Hey, I think I could easily skip the gift wrap if I won the home! But then who wouldn't?
Why not tell fellow bloggers your "2 cents worth with the interior decoration and landscaping?" That would keep us occupied for a while, especially if you also included pictures.
As for a vlog from Gail, I think we're all looking forward to hearing from her again.
Hope all is going well on your vacation!
Hi all, just in case you're interested, here's an earlier comment I made on the Green Home blog:
Thanks for the info Ed in Oregon. Looked up stucco paper and discovered: "Stucco is known to be a weather resistant building finish, but it is part of a system. In order for the wall to resist water penetration effectively, the system must be properly designed and detailed, then built according to plans.
The main purpose of building paper is to keep water from contacting the substrate and structural support members—very commonly sheathing like plywood or OSB (oriented strand board) and wood or metal studs—so that these materials stay dry. Metal can rust and wood can rot. Also, wood is prone to expand and contract with changes in moisture, so it’s essential to keep sheathing dry to provide the plaster with a sound substrate. Minimizing the changes in moisture minimizes the stresses that might be placed on plaster from behind. In addition to structural considerations, excess moisture within a wall creates a potential for mold or mildew inside buildings."
cont'd
"Building paper prevents moisture-related problems in stucco walls. Several industry documents, such as PCA’s Portland Cement Plaster/Stucco Manual (EB049), ACI’s Guide to Portland Cement-Based Plaster, and building codes across the country, recommend 2 layers of paper. During construction, paper can be damaged. Two layers of paper provide greater assurance that water won’t get to the sheathing or support members. Paper should be lapped like siding, meaning that upper layers are placed over lower layers. This facilitates drainage toward the outside. Where the edges of paper-backed lath meet, connections should be lath-to-lath and paper-to-paper.
Building paper should comply with the current requirements of UU-B-790a, Federal Specifications for Building Paper, Vegetable Fiber (Kraft, Waterproofed, Water Repellent, and Fire Resistant). This specification differentiates weather resistive Kraft papers by types, grades, and styles. Grade D is a water-vapor permeable paper. Grade D paper with a water resistance of 60 minutes (or more) works well for stucco applications, and is often preferred to Grade D paper having the minimum 10-minute resistance required by UU-B-790a."
where is Renee, Kat, Glenn NYC? Where are you all?
I'm a fan of hgtv, and i just love all the homes they built, i dream of owning and living on one of them, they are just lovely homes, who wouldn't, but truly to add something to my dream home it will be one with a enclosed swimming pool. what about you?
this is annoying. its been two weeks since theyve updated the dream cam. wonder whats going on there????
My son is moving to NM in Dec & I retire in 2yrs. I am looking at moving to NM after retirement. The dream home would be perfect for family gatherings.
I was looking at the floor plans and did not see any plans for a pool or did I miss it?
