Dream Home Rocks

Good afternoon, bloggers,

Check out this awesome photo house planner Jack Thomasson sent me from his iPhone during load-in day!

Jack told me that while furniture was being loaded into the house, a big truck arrived, carrying a rock the size of a whale for the front landscape. It’s amazing!

Suffice to say, after you win the HGTV Dream Home 2010 you can tell all your friends to just “keep going until you see the house with the big rock.”DH10_Dream-Home-Front-Yard_s4x3

I’m off to see what else I can dig up …

Your Super Fan, Gail

  3. Amazingly beautiful, the whole surrond landscaping, with the blue skies, Belle Regarde stone paving, and the colossal spear shaped rock is the magnamonious finishing touch.

  5. Whoa! I just looked at the photos on HGTVPro and they are fabulous! How bout those cool tiles on the kitchen wall? Love, love them!

    What's your favorite photo?

I'm torn between the large expanse of wall tile in the kitchen and realizing that the window out to the patio is GIANT!!!!!!

  6. I am so drawn to this house. I love everything about it.

  7. The rock reminds me of a scene from Zelda the Twilight Princess. You have to get the ROCK from Death Mountain and transport it to Zora's Domain to melt the ice. I love everything about the house, I love Zelda and I believe that this house is meant for me.

  8. Thanks for the heads up Lynn. Those 16 foot ceilings are very impressive. The Casita is definitely bright enough to ensure that guests won't over stay their 3 day limit! :) I think those bright red tiles would drive one crazy in short order. I like the lamps in the entry way. I can't stand that modern fan, it doesn't fit in with the South Western theme. Those glass doors on the garage are kind of strange looking. It's nice to get a view of the backyard & the casita.

  9. EdinOregon and I have completely opposite tastes! I like the red tiles in the casita but am not excited about the blue tiles in the kitchen — I don't think blue is a good choice in the kitchen as it is a color that suppresses appetite (unless you are trying to stick to a diet — then it is an ideal color!). I like the modern ceiling fan but not the rustic country look of the light fixtures in the foyer. And I also like the modern garage doors and outdoor sconces! I guess EdinOregon is more attracted to the Southwestern and I am more drawn to the contemporary of the Southwestern contemporary style of the home. At least there is something for everyone!

  10. The rock looks a bit like an Egyptian obelisk . . . at a home fit for a pharaoh.

  11. Having lived in the southwest for most of my ought-O(auto) adult life, my primary concern that there is a homeowners association in my new community to protect us against grafiti. Those taggers have plenty of experience with using a stucco canvas, and they can quickly re-tag the surface in their way to and from school, and I doubt they learned tagging in creative art class. Considering those strong winds we have out this way, I hope the rock has integrated concrete foundation as well. No competition from this old western cowboy, who prefers tall pines & mountains over the southwestern architecture, but I’ll not turn down the place if I were to win the lottery.

  14. Ok this may be slightly embarrassing to admit but here goes:
My husband and I travel to Santa Fe at least twice a year, it feels like home to us. And we plan to retire there.
So, on our trips, I pick out one small rock to bring home and place in my flower garden, with my Savannah Bird Girl statue.
My plans are to bring the Girl and my New Mexico rocks back to Santa Fe, where they belong.
I love the rock in the Dream Home landscape! That big rock would become my "touchstone" to keep me connected to the land.

  23. may i ask what you mean by big earth ?

melissa on February 13, 2010 at 9:47 am
    • Hi Melissa! Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art developed over 3,000 years ago and is used to promote such things as health, happiness and prosperity. Big Earth is how they refer to the Southwestern side of your house.

      Hope this helps!
