  1. WOW!!! Amazingly beautiful, and with the new rock standing like a sentry to guard the Dream Home from marauding bears. Talk about frost on the pumpkins, and here at home I'm still in shorts and t-shirts.

  5. Mary: WOW! Just beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! What a difference from the desert look we are use to!! And, it would be cold enough to keep the snakes in hibernation. Right? I can't help but want to share a word, or two:

    "Snowflakes"

    Snowflakes spill from heaven's hand
Lovely and chaste like smooth white sand.
A veil of wonder laced in light
Falling Gently on a winter's night.

    Graceful beauty raining down
Giving magic to the lifeless ground.
    Each snowflake, a falling star
Smiling beauty that is spun afar.

    Snowflakes spill from heaven's hand
Lovely and chaste like smooth white sand.
Till earth is dressed in a robe of white
Unspoken poem the hush of night.

Marie Miller on October 28, 2009 at 11:10 pm
    • Great poem Marie! I see why the snow covered Dream Home picture brought this poem to mind.

Lessie on November 20, 2009 at 4:12 am
    • You speak beautiful words Marie! I can smell the cedar and feel the crisp winter bite of the air that's such a part of the high desert in New Mexico as this arid land sleeps under a blanket of snow. Beautiful earth…beautiful words. THANKS for sharing the poem:o}

  7. Wow! What a beautiful picture of our desert beauty. Thanks Mary ! Will go look at the cam.

  8. Mary: That picture was amazing. I looked at it and could almost hear the "Little Drummer Boy" coming around the corner, with back up drums from the Indians, and an angelic voice coming from atop the rock, and it builds
and then melts, softly, until nothing is left.
Marie: Great poem. I loved it!

Katydid on October 29, 2009 at 1:58 am
  9. Perfect! That's my kind of snow. According to the Dream Cam, it was snowy in the morning & melted in the afternoon. No shoveling necessary!

  10. What a beautiful picture. That's the way it is here in New Mexico. Snow in the morning and sunshine in the afternoon. I love this house. I can't wait to see inside.

  13. Mary: It appears from the Dream Cam that the furniture was delivered on October 22? I cannot begin to tell how much I enjoyed all the Cam Photos. Each and every photo is beautiful, especially like the night shots & early mornings! Never thought I would appreciate a pueblo style home as much as the DH2010! And, now the winter wonderland to look forward to will make anyone's Christmas complete! I'm thinking that instead of a traditional Xmas Tree for this adobe abode, I would erect something with desert drama, like the Joshua Tree!! It would be fitting and could be adorn with ornament treasures that reflect the area, like cute little Roadrunners; Prickly Pear Flowers; a Lynx or two; and maybe a few Sand Foxes!! I would not forget to string it with alternating lights with the colors of the rainbow like the fabulous Rainbows we have seen from our Dream Cam splashed across the sky over our dream home!! Ahhhh Merry Christmas Adobe Style to all, and to all Good Luck with winning this dramatic dream home in this sanctuary of a desert oases!!

  15. Brrrr! Turn up that radiant heat flooring, pull on your favorite winter bathrobe, and get a cozy fire going in the Great Room fireplace, then sit back in a comfy lounge chair with a steamy cup of hot chocolate and watch the miracle of nature's beauty as the snowflakes fall and angelic voices read Marie Miller's "Snowflakes" poem to us.

Need more of that High Desert Southwest ambiance? Flip on those Chili Pepper Christmas lights strung about the trees, both indoors and out, and crank up the old phonograph to fill the air with holiday cheer—compliments of Bing Crosby's dreamy "White Christmas."

Ho Ho Ho, Happy Holidays to all Dream Home Pioneers!

  16. Lovely picture of the dreamhome. Just finished viewing the new pics on HGTV pro. The home this year to me seems very sculptural with many textures. The tile in the kitchen definitely reminds me of turqoise with silver accents. The glass tile in the casita I’m not sure about, but it will probably grow on me after a while. The tile work is quite impressive. Can’t wait to see the finished house.

  17. I’m not sure why, but I can’t get my comments to post, so I’ll keep this one short…

The holidays have come early this year — what a breathtakingly beautiful picture of the Dream Home! We used to live in the Colorado foothills, and I always loved this type of snowfall — like being wrapped in a soft, white, quiet cocoon of nature! We rarely get snow where we live now, and I really miss it!

    C&E on October 29, 2009 at 12:47 pm
  18. SOOOOOO very picturesque. I can just imagine being all snuggled up by the fireplace sipping herbal tea, listening to the quiet!

-Actually NY didn't get much snow at all this year, everywhere else did!

  22. I'm inspired by your beautifully penned Snowflake poem, Marie Miller. I had to give you a thumbs up for sharing it with us…and MARY's winter wonderland photo reminds me of a few of my favorite things about the Dream Home (in two parts):

    Part I:
    Rough hewn wood beams,
    And rustic window sashes,
    Cork tile walls,
    And skylights in fashion,
    All of these touches,
    What great style it brings,
These are a few of my favorite things…

    Shiny glass tiles,
    An' four fireplaces,
    Tongue and groove planks,
    An' custom tile faces,
    Aternoon shadows dancing with wings,
These are a few of my favorite things…

    Cool bubbly fountains,
    With water that splashes,
    An' views to the mountains,
    With color that matches,
White winter snows that melt into springs,
These are some more of my favorite things…

DBCoop on October 29, 2009 at 11:51 pm
    • Gee Coop, you're a poet too. Nice job.

Lessie on November 20, 2009 at 4:22 am
  23. Part II:
    Raindrops on cactus,
    An' a driveway that glistens,
    Warmed by the hearths,
    So no woolen mittens,
    With feet nice and cozy,
    Your happy heart sings,
These are just more of my favorite things…

I'll be quite happy, when my doorbell it rings,
By HGTV—I'm the winner it seems!
    With Santa Fe Soirées,
    And friends by the score,
    On January First,
That's what our entries are for.

    So when the dog bites,
    If a bee stings,
    When you're feelin' sad,
    Simply remember your favorite dreams,
And then you'll be feelin' glad…

  24. Oh, fall snow. I don't even get winter snow.

Off ths subject, has anyone else noticed that the garage seems very tall. I wonder if it has storage up there.

  25. Bravo Coop: Your rendition of "My Favorite Things" from "The Sound of Music" turned into a winter wonderland with words about some of your favorite things about the Dream Home is simply delicious!! It is wonderfully orcastrated, and I just had to give you a thumbs up for all the effort! I actually did sing both parts out loud with the same conviction as Juilie Andrews, but a with less pleasing tone! But, I did enjoy it immensely!! Thank you!

Marie Miller on October 30, 2009 at 1:28 am

  26. Gosh Coop: I just sang the words again, and I have to tell you, I think this should be turned into the DH2010 theme song! I believe HGTV should consider having Julie Andrews present on the day of the GREAT GIVE-AWAY, and have her sing it during the ambush! Unless, of course, you think Show-Me might be up for the task? I love it, and I think it is a poetic masterpiece!! Bravo again!!!

Marie Miller on October 30, 2009 at 1:33 am
  27. Thank you for the compliments, Marie. It was a labor of love. Now, I wonder if MARY would let you record and post a vlog online with your rendition of "My Favorite Dream Home Things"…

It could be the start of a new career! (Either on American Idol, or as an understudy to follow in the footsteps of our Super Fan, GAIL.)

DBCoop on October 30, 2009 at 3:09 am
  28. Well Coop, my mother always told me that "I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket!", so I think we better leave the singing up to Julie, or better yet..HGTV could have volunteers audition (those who can carry a tune past the shower) so they can find a suitable performer to sing on-line with "Their Favorite Dream Home Things"!! What fun, what jubilation!!! And, Show-Me has so many other fine qualities, it hardly matters that his singing comes up flatter than a two day old pancake!!

Marie Miller on October 30, 2009 at 11:42 am
  29. LOL, I love those great old country sayings, especially the Southern ones. Years ago, on meeting the mother of a good friend who was visiting from Oklahoma, her comment on my trim physique was a classic: "why you're no bigger than a bar of soap after a hard days wash." I got a good laugh from that one!

In any event, you're right, we'll leave the performing to a suitable professional. How about our Super Fan? How's your singing abilities, GAIL?

DBCoop on October 30, 2009 at 4:51 pm
  30. As I was walking through the house yesterday several individuals mentioned this DH was their favorite. I wondered if they say that every year. Then again it does not matter and I too think it's the best DH thus far. The snow was beautiful and picturesque and most of it has melted away but from the living room you can still see the snow covered peaks….

  31. PLEASE HIRE A NEW DESIGNER/DECORATOR!!! Hurts My Eyes! Please do not continue with this throw it on the walls & jump in your face design approach! Disturbing & disappointing! Especially the tile in the casita, this bold element, just thrown on a wall with huge impact that ruins the hacienda effect & rooms other accents. A little of this tile goes a long way, I get a headache looking at it, buzzes your eyes out. So many ways to bring this element in without having this kind of effect!
This is one of the worst new designed homes inside I've seen in a long time!!! The builder did a good job. Crappy design work, beginner/novice level, far from mastery! Who did this, 2 embarrassing! At least these modern features can be removed easily. Who would keep it just like it is? Yikes, more to come! Why bother with a Pueblo style home then? You can't wait to look away from the details! Deappreciates homes value, with me, literally! Designer makes statement & allowed to completely fail miserably, missing any assemblance of an admirable piece of work of being a well designed space! I like the outside spaces.

PFG on October 30, 2009 at 6:32 pm
  32. Well, DUTCH, I'm sure that most folks would consider winning an awesome and well-built home a dream come true, so it seems that each year, the opportunity to enter and possibly do just that makes each and every home that HGTV brings online a favorite.

I know for myself that every year's Dream Home is one of my favorites. Like children, they all have their unique personalities and plenty to love about each, so don't ask me to rank them! Now, there might be a little quirk here and there in each one that I'd personally change, but as Marie Miller would say (probably in French) "don't look a gift horse in the mouth!"

    Happy Turquoise Trails, Pardners!

DBCoop on October 30, 2009 at 11:35 pm
  33. Coop rhymes! Another talent revealed. Just darling and now I'll have that tune in my head all night. Alas, Marie, Julie Andrews doesn't sing anymore, but I just bet that that between all the female designers and presenters on the HGTV staff, there is a beautiful soprano voice. It would be so cool to have it sung sometime around Christmas/New Years. Of course, Coop would have to give permission and accept a one dollar fee. OK Coop?
    Thanks Dutch for your comment.

Katydid on October 31, 2009 at 1:30 am
  34. PFG: Would you be kind enough to tell me where you found the picture of the tile in the Casita? I understand the virtual tour of the interior will be presented December 14th. Have you been fortunate enough to tour the home already? Don't you think your harsh words might be a bit premature? But I'm so glad you like the outside spaces.

Katydid on October 31, 2009 at 1:42 am
  35. LOL—okay Katydid, I'll consider giving HGTV my permission to sing the Dream Home melody in a vlog. However, I'd have to negotiate my fee—rather than one dollar, I might consider signing on the dotted line for, say, a couple of hundred extra Dream Home entries!

By the way, for the interior photos, Katydid, go to hgtvpro.com. At the moving orange tab (upper middle, left side of screen), click on "Dream Home's Modern Touches." This will bring up the photo series titled HGTV Dream Home 2010, Building High End. Of course, you'll want to click through all of them, but you'll find the Kitchen wall and aluminum/glass tile at number 8, and the "offending" Casita wall VERY VIVIDLY tiled at number 15. In all honesty, I find that design idea over the top as well. (Just way too much of a good thing!) My opinion is that it would work better if it was substantially scaled back, laid horizontally rather than vertically, in something of an elevated and two or three row thickness, "chair rail" type of color punch.

See what you think. It definitely makes a statement!

  46. Who cannot love the snow of New Mexico……its like a white spiritual blanket that covers all the recent past, only leaving the present to be enjoyed in a sleigh ride or snow ball fight. The possibilities are endless with new snow – laying the grounding for a new poem, or a spontaneous "snow angel", or a party of home grown "snow cones" with all the flavors of the rainbow. Did you know that snow is really "white laughter" – the levity of New Mexico's favorite, the flute player – Kokopelli. Laugh much and enjoy your time in the snows of New Mexico…….
