What Space Will Be Your Favorite?

I’m curious. After reviewing the HGTV Dream Home 2010 floor plan, which indoor or outdoor space do you think will be your favorite? Have you already envisioned what it will look like or how you’d decorate it? If you won the home, where would you plop first — the great room, the master bedroom or maybe that awesome casita? Tell me what you’re dreaming about today.

  1. This home is outstanding, with a floorplan that is great and the views are even better. The colors used throughout the home are very tasteful and the accents are not over done as in some past homes. It would be a fantastic home to retire to.

  2. Is the only way to close off the Master Bedroom those curtains?? When I win, I want to keep the cats out.

pizzathemom on December 29, 2009 at 6:03 pm
    • That's the only part that I don't like. There's no real privacy in the Master Bedroom. If we had company, especially with children, I would like to have a door to close, not just curtains. We have a cat too but we like her to come into the bedroom. She usually sleeps at the foot of the bed.

      • check out the tour and when in fireplce entry area pause and zoom ~ there is a door to the master suite area that can be closed.

  3. I love each and every room already, but will probably spend a lot of time in the master bedroom, sun room, home theater, and outdoors of course. I love the casita a lot too!! I love the house and would love to win it. that would be a dream come true, cause my life has been like a nightmare since I was hit by a car on Mother's Day in 1988. winning this wonderful home would be great and I have grand designs for cool things to do with it when I win it too. I hope to win it anyway!!

  4. how many acres doe this house sit on?

    Bill P. on December 31, 2009 at 3:20 am
    • I think they said 3 acres….

  5. OMG! Out of all the HGTV Dream Homes, I LOVE this one! When I win this (Ha, Ha), I find myself setting in the room that is the most impressive to me. (Pause, thinking) I am sorry to say at this time I'm unsure what room that is. The entry is a stoppable site, maybe, that will be the room. It just looks like home. Good Luck to all. James

    • james im sorry ur not gonna win- for that comment i'll ensure it either is ur family that was very selfish of u p.s ur werent gonna win anyways so ya- (ha,ha)

  6. The 2010 Dream Home looks like it would be wonderful for me in my wheelchair. Sitting in the warm weather and gentle breezes while over looking the mountains would be heavenly. The style of the home and decor is calming and makes me smile thinking about it. Good Job HGTV.

  7. My favorite space is the outdoor living room! I can just imagine lounging with a good book after a fabulous bbq dinner, listening to my kids play, and enjoying the wonderful outdoor fire pit! That's not even mentioning the absolutely wonderful sunsets!!!

WashingtonMom on January 2, 2010 at 5:35 am
  8. Okay ~ looking at the floor plan, what happened to the bath room adjacent to the home office in tour photos ?
Who wants to look at the toilet in the casita ? You can see it but have to walk down to entrance doorway to reach it !
Why didn't you put a jacuzzi or jettted tub in the master suite ?
Better to have a toilet with sink private in the jack n' jill bathroom and seperate tub or shower area.

Lucille on January 2, 2010 at 7:23 am
  9. A couple of places would be my favorites.
The Sunrise Room since I love windows, and love the outdoors, and love my morning coffee.
The second would be the outdoor space since I love to actually be outside.

Catherine on January 2, 2010 at 3:08 pm
  10. This home is my least favorite. It feels cold and sterile, like a doctor's office.

Beth on January 2, 2010 at 3:38 pm
  11. I love the great room! Is one place where everyone can gather and visit, eat, and just hang out together and have a good time.

Jim on January 2, 2010 at 11:11 am
  12. OH my goodness, for us, every single room would be our favorite, since my husband was diagnosed Myasenthia Gravis, our beautiful cape here in Maine is getting more a bit difficult for him because of the two floors, being on one floor would be absolutely incredible for us. And the garage, he loves to tinker on his 1954 Chevy Truck he is restoring, but can't do much as he has to come in and rest quite frequently – to not to have to climb the stairs would be awesome! For me I love to cook and read so the kitchen is my 1 st favorite 2nd is the entry way with the cozy chairs (I look good in green) and fireplace. Life would be simple the way it should be (except when the grandkids come to stay).

  13. Thank you for choosing the turquoise trail for this giveaway. My absolute favorite spot will be anywhere I can watch the hummingbirds and the stars at night, and then come in for cocoa by the fireplace. This area is where we plan to retire. Now we just need the place.

  14. I absolutely LOVE New Mexico!! I definately love this HGTV Dream home. What an awesome package. I've always liked the Southwest style with clean flat lines and those amazing views. WOW! I live in a one-bedroom in Phoenix and could really stretch-out in this Dream Home. Thank you HGTV

  15. Does the 2010 Dream Home have electricity/power in the house and or on the property?… or does it have to be powered by gas or diesel fuel generators? (Who could afford that @$3.00 per gallon?). What about water… does it have a well and sewage tank or public utilities? Is there a cable and phone service available, or already installed in the house? The Dream Home Giveaway in Lake Lure, NC several years ago, had no electric service on the property, no phone line and no cable. It's a great prize… if it comes equipped with the necessities of a normal home… and if you can afford it… taxes, insurance etc. It really is beautiful…and who wouldn't want to wake up to those views or watch the colorful sunsets…Sweet Dreams!

  16. Love the house; But I was wondering how big is the master bed ? Also, what if you have some of your own must keep furniture, and must forfeit some of the dream house furnishing's how can that be done?

Chrischelle on January 3, 2010 at 4:19 pm
    • If you go to tour of master suite there is a dot on the bed ~ queen size duvet ~ so it is a queen size bed.
Of course if you do not need 3 arm chairs in the room (stupid idea to have 3 of them ! ) & that round ottoman ~ then you could most likely put in a KING !
Sell the furniture you do not want and some of that artwork as well ! Also 2 large round ottomans in hall and 3 square ones under huge great room painting are a bit much !

Lucille on January 3, 2010 at 10:08 pm
  17. Everything is just so amazing and so beautiful! It's really hard to pick a favorite place!

Jalyssa on January 3, 2010 at 5:10 pm
  18. Just to pick one room would be sooo hard, they are all just so fantastic. Waking up in that master suite, sipping my morning coffee in the sunrise room while reading, then walking the dogs on the amazing landscaped property. The next step would be preparing a great dinner in that super kitchen, taking the two tables and setting up the outdoor area for the entertaining I would do for my family and friends. 19. why a wide open bathroom in the casita? Do you think there is a curtin you could pull when you have to use the jon?

ann on January 3, 2010 at 11:34 pm
  20. My favorite is the Master bedroom, but is that a FULL size bed ???? Will my Calif, King fit it this room?

Grace Smith on January 4, 2010 at 12:13 am
    • I thought it said Queen.

Renee on January 4, 2010 at 9:35 am
      • Yes ~ in the tour if you click on the dot on the master bed ~ it says QUEEN.
If you take out those 3 armchairs, you could fit a king…. cal. king may be a bit tight.

Lucille on January 5, 2010 at 6:20 am
  21. I would not change a thing in this home. I think that the color choices are great. The tile on the wall in the kitchen, excellent. The master bed/bath and closet is priceless. Once I get my daughter settled in her room, I am locking myself in my bedroom for at least a few days. I think that the layout of the house is great for a growing family.

Utopia Gizowski on January 4, 2010 at 6:42 am
    • That's the problem, you can't lock yourself in the bedroom with only curtains for privacy.

Renee on January 4, 2010 at 9:34 am
      • Okay Renee ~ go tour the entry hall ~ stop just to the left of the fireplace area ~ zoom in close to the doorway to master suite area ~ there is a door that can be closed ! So this whole section can be private….

Lucille on January 6, 2010 at 5:57 am
        • Thanks. I did finally see something that looked like a door entering that hallway. I guess that makes the master bedroom suite a rather large suite indeed!

Renee on February 7, 2010 at 12:59 am
  22. i love the house inside out – it's gorgeous all around – but i have a few questions. i was reading online about HGTV DREAM HOUSES being on forclosure list due to HIGH unpayable tax. For example, the 2010 dream home package is worth about 2.04 MIL with a federal and local tax of over $700,000 that needs to be return – my question is how does HGTV expect an average american family whose GROSS income is only $60,000/year to pay that amount back? even with the $500,000, you're still left with 200,000 + property tax + utility bills? unless you're rich to start out with, you could never afford to REALLY LIVE in this beautiful home.

If there's another way to settle this and prevent forclosure after the winner does recieve the prize, please let me know. I'm carious to know what the solutions are?

dreamer on January 4, 2010 at 10:01 am
    • acyually sales tax i s about 150,000 so get ya facts straight!

stef on January 5, 2010 at 12:48 am
      • Federal Tax must be paid on total amount of prize as income ~ so 'dreamer' is correct !
In addition there may be taxes that have to be paid in New Mexico.
Selling everything looks to be the only way us poor folk could settle this.

Lucille on January 5, 2010 at 6:29 am
      • stef- Dreamer is correct. It's federal taxes not Sales tax that are being paid. and The Federal goverment I believe would want to be paid upfront

ann on January 7, 2010 at 3:44 am
    • In addition to property tx and fed. tx. I wonder if there is an HOA(homeowners ass. fee) yearly? Maybe you could rent it out. Can you keep the $500,000 and not take possession of the house if you won?

ann on January 7, 2010 at 3:50 am
      • Tried to find out HOA fees by going to community site yet they are NOT listed !
According to the rules, you have to take the whole package of prizes totaling over 2 million !

Lucille on January 10, 2010 at 7:32 am
    • I have a large family mainly on the east coast so I would make them all an offer. If they would plan their vacations using the home and treat it like a Time Share, they could help out with the taxes in exchange for a week or two each year. My husband and I could camp out in the casita leaving the whole house for the vacationers to use!

Renee on February 7, 2010 at 1:17 am
  23. My two children just LOVE the casita and my oldest daughter wants to make that her own tiny little apartment, being a teen and all.

  25. I truly love every piece of this house. It is so perfect I feel like it was crafted just for me. The only thing I MIGHT change is the theater. While I LOVE everything about it we would need a place for my husband to write music and all the walls are already soundproof. I guess I would have to find a way to use it as both. Humm. I would not "change" anything, not even the purple room. I like everything about this house.

Note: I would need to make a slight change to the Casita. You can see the Toilet from the bed! I don't know about everyone else but not all couples like to take care of business with their spouse watching. I think I would make a temporary half wall just to add a little privacy that could easily be moved if we had to sale later. I would not want to do anythign that might hurt the original beauty of the property.

kwyndawn on January 6, 2010 at 8:59 pm
    • I'm with you ~ the glass wall in casita is stupid ~ who wants to view someone else sitting on the toilet ? Plus the wall does not go up to ceiling ~ so there is sound too ! YUCK !

Lucille on January 10, 2010 at 7:34 am
    • I also agree and would probably put a curtain or something that could be pulled to one side for those guests who want to be up close and personal!

Renee on February 7, 2010 at 12:53 am
  26. Always love the locations and look of the dream homes but sometimes don't find them practical to live in unless you are an empty nester. You have a beautiful place and an acutal laundry room but no where in the laundry room to fold.

jj at mpls on January 8, 2010 at 12:42 am
  27. I'd use the $500,000 to pay taxes and insurance… I think that actually makes owning the home possible! That's great! I've always wanted to win one of the houses by the ocean, but my nieces and nephews say this is the house for me so they can all come and visit in New Mexico… they're not"Eastcoast" people, but "out West" people, so I'm ready to win and be convinced…

  28. I REALLY want to win The HGTV dream home. My husband lost his job in 2009 and My car broke AND
My father has cancer. What else can go wrong I hope My family can start off with a fresh stat this year.

  29. I think the first room that I would visit would be the casita. Considering that this would probably be my bedroom!! I think that this house is absolutely gorgeous!! The moment that I saw the program introducing the home, I got online to enter the sweepstakes!! I have already started dreaming about some of things that I would do with the house!! This would be an awesome opportunity for my sister and I. We are both single mothers and would love to have a fresh start with some cash, that would allow us to go to school and actual work in the career that we would be happy in. I am crossing my fingers so tightly I think that might get stuck!! Lol!!

michelle smith on January 11, 2010 at 5:26 pm
  30. It is a beautiful home but I don't think I could afford the taxes. Plus, it appears to be in the middle of nowhere.

  31. Just picture yourself walking in from the beautiful view off of the motor court, through the double doors into the Dining Room and there right in front of you is the most beautiful, relaxing Sitting Room with a 10' tall turquoise fireplace and 2 gorgeous, comfortable chairs to relax in while you take in the beauty of the turqoise tile! When I need to unwind and rest; it will be here in this comfortable sitting room with fireplace turned on! When I want to let the calming desert beauty and serene, peaceful sunsets fill me with inner peace and tranquility, I will simply turn the chair around! Next choice is the awesome, awe-inspiring Great Room with magnificent 16' ceiling, full-wall of multi-colored tile, wide-full-length windows to take in the gorgeous mountain and desert views! So inviting! And family and friends will come to this room to relish in the magnitude of this special room– need more space?open the door to the outside seating and comforting, romantic fireplace! What more could you want! HERE– YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL!

  32. To me it’s the kitchen! I love to cook, and that kintchen is my dream kitchen. Those beauiful tiles that go up to the ceiling. The bulters kitchen, and the stove…just beatiful! I could see myself with a glass of wine and makine a beautiful dinner for my parents and sister’s.

Amanda on January 26, 2010 at 1:31 am
  33. The room for me is the kitchen! I do love everything inside and out of this beautiful dreamhome. This Kitchen is amazing! I love to cook and this kitchen is a dream. Those beatiful little tiles that go up to the ceiling, the stove, fridge, and floors! I would be in there all the time cooking something. I see inviting friends and family for a very nice dinner. When I win this house (which would be my first ever own home) I would not change a thing! HGTV did a awesome job on this home.

Amanda on January 26, 2010 at 1:43 am
  34. Ah Yes…..The peace and tranquility. The morning sun, the evening sunset. The sunshine room seems like a room for me to sit and let my mind dream of more exciting adventures and quietly remember the past, the loss of my husband, raising the little ones and being able to have a new life begin. To laugh, cry and dream in the privacy of my sunshine room.

kay on February 1, 2010 at 1:33 am
  35. Wow were to start???? It's all wonderful, but I couldn't imagine anything better than to sit outside and enjoy the spectacular views. I always enjoyed visiting my aunt in Tucson and the breathtaking sunsets/sunrises and the lightning storms on her porch!!! Next would have to be the master bedroom and that huge bathtub! I'm a Massage Therapist and to sit and relax in a tub filled with essential oils and candlelight would be so rejuvenating. This would be the dream home to have for me. . . spending the day helping others relax and rejuvenate. Then be able to come home to a MUCH MUCH MUCH bigger home than I have now and the luxuries of it all, and the heavenly views more than doubles what would help me at the end of the day!!! The views alone in any room is the icing on the cake after a nice long day of helping others. May have to change up the office to accomodate my massage room or build a seperate massage space like the casita!!!! . . . . Even better!!!

    Tracey Fenton-Fuller on February 1, 2010 at 8:04 pm
  36. Would also love to have a 5-7 person Bullfrog jacuzzi with it's interchangeable seats to totally relax outside the master bedroom on hot or cold days! And a workout room for those hot days outside. The thoughts are limitless on this one…….. This is the touch of God in every room and seeing his majestic beauty inside and out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Tracey Fenton-Fuller on February 1, 2010 at 8:05 pm
  37. When I saw the bunk area – it made me imagine hosting Christmas for my brother and sisters and all of their kids and mine. I would be thrilled to have a house that could accomodate the whole family. And not only that, but somewhere where we could all go out and ski! How fantastic would that be? What a beautiful setting. The whole place is just fantastic.

  38. Just curious & I hope you don't mind me asking? Were you one of the many sailors aboard the US Enterprise prior to it's decommissioning in 1947?

What kind of great soup would you be making?

PFG on November 19, 2009 at 5:05 pm
  39. I was onboard CVN-65. I think you might be referring to CV-6.
    Soup is potatoe-leek-green onion soup!

  40. Oops! I just looked it up and the new USS Enterprise was commissioned in 1961 and still operational & appears to be nuclear class along with being the longest it's class.
