  1. A Super Fan GAIL question: are any/all of the window shades in the various rooms motorized, or manually raised and lowered? I haven't been able to sort that point out from the photos yet.

In the meantime, I'm dreaming of a White Christmas, if only in my Southern CA dreams!

DBCoop on December 16, 2009 at 4:50 am
    • Coop – We could do a house swap….you come to the beautiful tree-lined streets of the Philadelphia suburbs and my family will go to sunny Southern CA! You can then have a white Christmas and I can have a warm Christmas! Oh, I am so packing my bathing suit right now! ;)

      Living the Dream!

LynnCoggin on December 16, 2009 at 1:40 pm
      • LOL! Well, that's a brilliant idea, Lynn, but I'm not sure how long I'd last in the cold and snow—probably not longer than overnight!

Since the temps here are to be back in the 70's today, which is more a seasonal norm, I'm going to fully appreciate my good fortune, and will shortly be out to seize the day, while various retailers seize my credit cards to pay for Christmas gifts.

        Onward Christmas Shoppers!

  2. I am wondering if the elusive water feature might be the 2nd laundry area just off the guest bedroom. That 2nd laundry area takes care of guests coming through the master suite to wash clothes!!! I really like that but I was so looking forward to a pool with a bit of a waterfall.

    About the windows:
My guess (and it is just that because I didn't count) is about 100 windows if you add in the garage doors too.

Sandy- from Kansas on December 16, 2009 at 5:40 am
    • Now that's good thinking, Sandy. You may be right about the 2nd laundry being the water feature, but if that's the case, I don't think it's going to impress me much. I can't imagine standing in front of the washer to listen to the soothing sounds of cascading water, or the sparkle of the water in the dim light of the closet!

However, it will be satisfying to know that my guests at least have clean clothes and linens as they overstay their welcome.

DBCoop on December 16, 2009 at 5:45 pm
  3. DBCoop, I am originally from Southern CA and I dream of those wonderful barefoot Christmas's I remember as a kid growing up there!!! Miss the weather sooooo much, but not the crowds and traffic.

  4. Hi,

Man Gail looks great, doing these room tours!

Can't wait to see more (and more of the Dream Home too)! :)

I'm going to enter every day I can, when it's up.

  5. Windows on top of cabinets doors, sliding barn doors with glass windows, skylight, see thru fireplaces windows, walls of windows, appliances with windows, & then traditional wall windows. Wow! That is a HUGE amount of windows for anyone to install, manage, clean, fix, keep up with or ever count! If anyone one glass surface had to be replaced or fixed…

    - Do we count the whole prize package to be given away?
    - Including vehicles view windows
    - What windows are hidden we did not see?

It's never ending as all are used to view…a window to something. Where does it start & end here with this DH?

A huge number of viewable windows on so many planes?

PFG on December 16, 2009 at 2:21 pm
  6. The exquisite Dream Home 2010 is a prize package of literally, hundreds of wonderful & glorious views

    Would you believe 103 windows
    Would you believe 142 windows
    Would you believe 135 windows
    Would you believe 125 windows

This whole prize package views in DH2010 is what do you think it really is the viable number?

PFG on December 16, 2009 at 2:26 pm
  7. I guess no matter how many windows there are in this fabulous home, the views are exquisite from every room! I'm wondering if the crew will be able to construct a snowman in Sandia Park on December 23rd since the extended weather forecast for then will be a Snow Shower with a High 42°F & a Low 23°F?? Do you think the snow will stick? I guess if the metal structure outside collects a bit of snow that will give way to a white Christmas atmosphere along our Turquoise Trail! I'm Dreamin' of a White Christmas in the Turquoise Palace with sugared crabapples dancing in my head!!!

Marie Miller on December 16, 2009 at 2:54 pm
  8. I decided to take a guesstimate afterall.

A prize package of 135 viewable windows of somekind in this DH to
    include the vehicles 9 windows.

PFG on December 16, 2009 at 5:42 pm
  9. Marie Miller, have you voted for all of your favorite housewarming gifts yet? Just think, with one of those 5 day weather forecasters to choose from, you could keep all of us fellow bloggers informed about conditions in Sandia Park when you win the Dream Home!

And how envious we'd be knowing what a striking panorama of stunning snow-capped mountain views you'd have from nearly every room. Even the snow-topped Shaman sculpture would talk to you about weather conditions.

    Happy Turquoise Dreams to All.

DBCoop on December 16, 2009 at 6:07 pm
  10. OK, I gotta guess 88 windows, as 88 is my signature number.

Katydid on December 16, 2009 at 9:24 pm
  11. Wow. Tripple WOW! How beautiful, full of daylight, breeze! Really really nice house. A lot of windows. I like it this way.
I have only one question: is there any door to master bedroom – or just curtains/draperies? If there is not door, how do you keep privacy? I like to close doors sometimes…Or did i miss the door somehow?
I love the modern look – and cozy warm look and feel…still, there are mysterious spaces….what are they?

luba on December 17, 2009 at 3:39 am
  12. I,am guessing 49 windows slot of windows to see all the moutains and the veiws

    Tamara2 on December 16, 2009 at 11:06 pm
    • Tamara2, you have the closest guess to the actual number of windows. Congrats! Did you count them?

      Happy Holidays!

Lessie on December 18, 2009 at 5:05 pm
  13. GAIL, will we have to wait until 1 Jan to find out just how many windows there really are in this magnificent Dream Home? Or will you be doing a window reveal vlog, perhaps with a thread title of
    "I Can See Clearly Now?"

    Curious minds want to know.

DBCoop on December 17, 2009 at 6:06 pm
    • Coop, you are amazing! Had Gail already posted her vlog? If not, you're a man of influence. OK, so much for your 15 seconds of fame!

      Enjoy the holidays!!!

Lessie on December 18, 2009 at 5:15 pm
  14. Oh, sooo many windows, more natural light, more sun!!! Works for me. How many sunny days and blue skies per year? I suspect if I lived on this site I could get the answer. So much to see. Can you help me out?

Sharpm on December 21, 2009 at 5:36 pm
  15. This house is amazing! It is definitly a Dream Home. The HGTV design team did an excellent job.

I think I am going to say about 115 windows including the Casita.

    kwoodard14 on January 2, 2010 at 8:42 pm
  16. There are so many windows in this beautiful house and the scenery is amazing. I am daydreaming at this moment of sitting in the family room and looking out at the beatiful sunset with my husband and sons with me. Whoever wins this home is going to have their entire life changed for the better. My fingers are still crossed. I have family that lives in Texas that I haven't seen for years and it would be wonderful for them to come and visit me at the new house in New Mexico. My uncle was stationed at the fort that in Texas that had the recent shooting, he was there for lock down and I have wanted to see him so badly since that event happened. Life is so fragile.

  17. What is the square footage of this gem in the desert?

Lloyd on January 4, 2010 at 10:24 pm
  18. This house and the furnishings are so beautiful. I did not think they could beat last years house. I am going to guess 75 windows after viewing the photos.

Kimberly on January 5, 2010 at 12:11 am
  19. Love the house and views!! Wondering though if I saw what I think I saw in the way of solar panels on the roof. I hope so. Also just wondering if there is a gas line to the house or is it propane and if propane is the tank in the ground. Everything looks wonderful and very tastefully decorated and what a wonderful place to start over and just enjoy. Also wondering what the property taxes might be for this beauty.

    SuperNana19 on January 5, 2010 at 11:13 pm
  20. Gail, The casita patio is great but it'd be real neat if it was covered with a wood and see thru roof for rainy nites. The walk up to the house is great too, it would of been nice to have a rustic pergola over the way up. The floor to ceiling windows in the MB our awesome and the fireplace very cool. Now all it needs is a lap pool off of the patio.

  21. I am looking into getting the iPhone and I was wondering if you get songs from the iTunes on you iPhone, how do you pay for them? Does it come up on ur bill? My computer doesn’t work with iTunes so using my iPhone to get music is the only way.

  22. I am longing for a home our family and friends can come to, after living in too small apartments for quite a while now….this home would make that possible….many years ago my husband and I were cruising around in that area, just taking a day trip to explore and relax (we lived and worked in Santa Fe then, moved away, and moved back…twice!!) and I said that I thought it would be the perfect place to build a house if we ever could!! I was born and raised in San Pedro, California, and it seemed to me that it was a good omen that we'd found this place so near to Santa Fe, which we love, in those hills, which we fell in love with on that drive….we've been singing "Home, Home On The Range" to each other ever since, wishing for a nice place to live where all those we love can come to share the beauty of New Mexico with us. We've lived in many places, including British Columbia and Germany, and moved back to New Mexico for the third time last summer because we love it so much.

  23. this home is for my family and my family only i couldn't picture anyone in the world living there but me i live in new mexico, and know it and love it. i know everyone says this but there wrong i already love this house almost more than anything in the world i just gotta a feeling that it's mine. u know wen u get a lottery ticket u want to win it of course but in the back of ur mind u know ur really not, well i feel for the first time in my entire life the complete opposite of that. i cant wait to move in, my aunties birthday is on the last day of the sweeps steakes, and uncles birthday is the day were supposed to find out that we won. omg! i was freaked out to figger that out. lololol im super excited!!!!!!!!!! =]

  24. Does anyone consider you would owe money after winning this prize. You would have to sell the house to actually come out on top. :'/

Nick on January 8, 2010 at 6:32 am
  25. Okay. 2,038,000 Grand prize. Times 35% tax bracket. Equals $713,300 total tax cost to the federal government. So unless you have 200,000 in the bank plus the $500,000 this is a good thing.

HGTV. This is a financial sabotage. HGTV would have to award $828,000 in cash just to cover the federal taxes. This does not include all other costs with the transfer of title, insurance and whatever else.

HGTV up the prize or this will be bad media when the home is foreclosed upon.

Nick on January 8, 2010 at 6:42 am
  26. Does anyone know if past dream home winners have been able to afford keeping their homes?

lonajane on January 8, 2010 at 9:45 pm
    • Everyone has sold eventually. Most of the winners come from a thousand miles away from their "win", so its a big issue leaving well known family, employment, etc. Much easier to sell and use the proceeds for an improved lifestyle in the area you are already familiar with.

  27. What a great place to work and enjoy life in general. The windows bring in such sunshine and warmth that elevates the mood and sense of well being. God bless you designers and workers.

  29. YEP!! I woke up in this house this morninng. Made breakfast in the kitchen and enjoyed coffee outside until my mom came from her casita and we ran to town for some shopping. Ok, I was dreaming. But it will happen.

Debbie on January 12, 2010 at 8:36 pm
  30. Am new and enjoyed perusing comments. This is truly my retirement dream home. Re: patio furniture: how easy will it be to maintain the upholstered furniture given the New Mexico desert sand that will blow through? A pool would be lovely but I wonder about maintenance for the same concerns.

Jess on January 13, 2010 at 3:51 pm
  31. Anyone know the manufacturer of the windows?

Doug on January 16, 2010 at 12:37 am
    • I think they said Anderson this year. The HGTV Pro site might have more information.

  32. there are no words to describe the beauty of the 2010 DREAM HOME SITE! The last time I was up there we went up to look at the comet and the only way I can describe it is to tell you it is the closest you'll ever get to reaching out and touching heaven. I have dreamed about living there all my life. The first time I ever visited that area I was 13 years old after my first concert….THE GRATEFUL DEAD! can you imagine? 3 days at Santa Fe Downs the only time they ever played NM. We went to Madrid and stayed with friends instead of going home to ALBQ and I fell in LOVE! If I win the dream home it will LITERALLY BE A DREAM COME TRUE! Thank you and HGTV for giving me the opportunity to make my dream come true. My family has been around that area for over 100years. my great-gpa even worked in the mines there as did my maternal grandpa. Whatta trip huh??? KEEP your fingers crossed for me! MM

  35. Only one word can describe this Dream Home "Awesome". In addition, the Dream Home would look great around my family. Like some of you have said; "Keep my fingers crossed". Outstanding!!!

Steve (MN) on February 5, 2010 at 4:31 pm
  36. OMG!!! I know everyone on here thinks they will win……but I'm sure of it. I can already see myself living there! I may never turn on a TV again (unless its to watch HGTV) I will spend my days out on the back patio watching the sunrises and sunsets. Thank you HGTV for giving your viewers something to hope for!
