I Can See Clearly Now!

Good afternoon, bloggers,

I hope that you are all settling in and enjoying the holidays. I know many of you will spend even more quality time with friends, family and the HGTV Dream Home videos over the next few days.

I am glad you enjoyed my “window” guessing game. In total, there are:

  • ● 36 single windows
  • ● 5 three-paneled windows
  • ● 6 two-paneled windows

… for a total of almost 50 windows in the home! (Though I really appreciate that PFG wants to include the 9 vehicle windows —you guys are way more clever than I.) Did I mention that one window unit in the great room measures 60 inches wide by 144 3/4 inches tall? Talk about an amazing view!

Now that you have toured the home, you understand why Linda Woodrum wanted the furniture and decor to enhance – and not detract from – the views. I think she brilliantly accomplished her goal.

Cheers to my blogging family! I wish you all a new year full of laughter and joy.

Your Super Fan,
Gail

  1. Glass doors for the garage? There is no security other than the guard gate and it's not 24×7….hmmm…

Lisa on December 21, 2009 at 7:18 pm
    • Lisa, if we include the bears, coyotes, snakes, and other critters, we have 24×7 security. I'm sure neighbors will tell the winner about other security services.

Wouldn't that be a nice problem to have? It would mean we won the home!!!

Lessie on December 21, 2009 at 8:02 pm
    • Maybe, per blogger Marie Miller's Christmas recipe, the winner could frost the windows with a mix of Epsom Salt and Beer?!

Otherwise, the home security system would be an appropriate deterrent.

DBCoop on December 21, 2009 at 11:23 pm
      • Coop, you are too bad!!! You made me laugh. Thanks!

Lessie on December 22, 2009 at 12:01 am
        • If that were the case, there wouldn't be so many burglaries in San Pedro Overlook or the Creek. They have had contractor trucks come in and wipe out all the appliances, etc., in the middle of the day. Security systems don't help much when there is no real police or fire department there. I'm just saying.

lisa on December 26, 2009 at 3:14 pm
          • Ripping off construction sights is a different kettle of fish from burglarizing occupied homes. When contractor trucks are constantly coming and going, it wouldn't be difficult, with a bit of insider help, to rip off a construction sight. Not so easy when a big ole' truck doesn't have an excuse to be there.
I assure you that there are real police and firepersons 'there'. Being in a mountain community, there is an abundance of highly trained rescue personnel. Some may actually be neighbors of the dream home.

  2. I wish I could say I was totally impressed. Maybe I am contemporary design challenged. There are things I love, like the kitchen tiles, island and stools, counter tops, and appliances (is there a dishwasher?) and the butlers pantry WOW! The entry hall was lovely, but would have liked to have seen the fireplace in the Great Room. I was expecting more from the media room. I didn't notice if there were any surround sound speakers, plus unless it is sound proof, I'm not sure I like it being so close to the bedrooms. The kid bedroom is to "little boy" for my liking, unless of course you like Toy Story. Something a bit more neutral would have been a better choice. I did like the guest bedroom, very nicely done. Not Crazy for the shared bath though. It would have been nice to see a 1/2 bath/powder room somewhere, maybe near the office. The master suite and bath and the sunrise room look inviting. Is there a private patio for the master suite? I didn't notice any furniture outside the rooms. Overall I think it is a lovely home and of course one could always change the little things to make it their own.

Dawn Patton on December 22, 2009 at 3:27 am
    • Yes Dawn there is a dishwasher in the pantry for sure and possibly one in the kitchen. I don't know about the surround sound speakers. There are speakers but I'm not sure if they are considered surround sound. The cork on the walls in the media room is supposed to help with soundproofing. There is another full bath right by the office. There is a small, very small private patio outside the master where I can picture a small table and chairs for two. If you look at the photos along with each room tour you will get to see a closer look at some of the extras.

  3. COOp,
you are way too funny! You made me laugh! Thank you! Just imagining some driving on the sidewalks….I laughed hard!
Yes, I wish all the best, and mainly: good health, sanity, relax time, and great New year!

  4. On the subject of the Dream Home (what else?) and holiday madness, one of my favorite (and decidedly delicious) ways to ease the stressful demands of Christmas and New Year's multi-tasking is chocolate.
Yes, chocolate, and plenty of it! Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, raspberry, or…never mind—just pass me another Lindor Chocolate please!

By the way, fellow bloggers, do any of you dream in chocolate?

DBCoop on December 22, 2009 at 3:44 am
    • Now you're talking my language Coop. I love chocolate. Lindor Truffles are the best!!!

Lessie on December 22, 2009 at 10:42 am
  5. Thanks Sandy. I just finished looking at all the photos as well. I love the bath near the office and on closer inspection of the media room I do see the speakers. I thought there should be a dishwasher in pantry, and was surprised not to see any indications of one in the virtual tour. What a relief, now I am ready to move in. :)

  6. This home was meant to be mine! Santa Fe is my family ancestral home. One of our homes now bears a historic register plaque, was once the home of a Spanish Don and had catacombs leading up the hill to Fort Marcy! Our family owned some of the original businesses around the old Santa Fe Plaza, including a cafe (still in operation) and a dress shop. My older sisters attended Loretto girl's school at the site of the famous Loretto Chapel. There is now a wonderful spa hotel on that site and of course the Chapel still is one of the most visited sites in the area with it's "mystery staircase". I love Northern New Mexico and there are no more beautiful skys and landscapes in the world. Not to mention one of the most unique cuisines and a wonderful mix of cultures. I have always wanted to re-establish our New Mexico heritage and it really would fulfill a dream of a lifetime to win the 2010 Dream Home!

Melody in Arizona on December 22, 2009 at 7:56 am
  7. You certainly have deep roots in the Santa Fe area, with many decades of interesting family history and cherished memories. It's understandable that you'd long to re-establish your ties to the area by winning the Dream Home.

I'm sure many fellow Dream Home fans may feel guilty about posting THEIR own entries starting on the 1st of January to become the lucky winner—but not THAT guilty!

Best of luck in the fulfillment of your dreams, be it with the Dream Home or another successful venture.

  8. Move me to New Mexico, PLEASE! It looks absolutely gorgeous! I always dreamed of a home where I could wake up every morning and marvel at my surroundings. This is a beautiful home. Great work, HGTV!

  9. I just entered the contest for the giveaway. We planned to retire in this area, as my husband is nearing retirement from the military, but our own dream home burnt down in the Trigo forest fire a year and a half ago. Now where to go. We need a place to retIre, and so I will continue to enter. The home is just gorgeous, and I know the surrounding area is very special. I would use the $ included for expenses that arise and move into this beautiful place, sit back, and enjoy life, wildlife, hummingbirds, sunsets, and the stars at night. Thank you for choosing this area to build this year's dream home.

Donna on January 1, 2010 at 5:30 pm
  10. the dream home is very nice, but I think that it is missing one element – a POOL… If it sunshines there 310 days a year then you would need a pool to keep cool. Also how hot does the house get with all those windows?

guest on January 2, 2010 at 5:24 am
    • 310 days of sunshine a year does not always mean HOT. In NM it could mean COLD. Alot of people hear the word sunshine and desert and they automatically think hot. As Coop pointed out in an earlier post the dream home is at an elevation of 9000 ft and it was a sunny 30 degrees. Subquerque has mentioned snow in the area so a pool would be a poor choice. I wonder how cold the house would be in the winter with all the windows and only radiant heating. ( I live in a state that also gets over 300 days of sunshine , last week end the sun was really bright but it was really cold. Temps were suppossed to heatup to the lower 40's today which is the warmest it's been in over 2 weeks–but the sun is shining!!)

  11. I watched the HGTV Dream House presentation on TV. The house was beautiful, but if I were a guest I would not want to stay in the Casita. I love my husband but I don’t want to be sitting on the toilet and he be watching me. Also I agree with another post that I would not want to share a bathroom with a kid. If the house is so spectacular it should not have had a Jack and Jill bathroom.

Kathy on January 2, 2010 at 1:14 pm
  12. Forget the beautiful windows, what about doors for the master bedroom??? It really creeps me out to think the master bedroom and bath are open to the "Sunrise room and the hall to the rest of the house. Privacy people!!

  13. I love everything about the new DREAM HOME, The best part is the open floor plan and there are no stairs… As a we all age and we all will be old one day we need to keep in mind the difficulty stairs provide for us that are weak in the knees. My grandmother is wheel chair bound but could get around with no problem in this new home. I will keep entering I love it….

Kathy Giles on January 3, 2010 at 12:17 am
  14. One thing I figured I would see is geo-thermal heat and A/C, especially in a desert home. In addition, no mention of using spray faom insulatioon, makes the 2×6 walls approx. R-37. No solar panels mentioned, but the aerial photos seem to show a couple. If you are going to keep calling the Dream Houses green make them green.

  15. hello super fan i have a Question…since the countdown is on for the dream home in new mexico how will the winner be determined…. like how will they pick the winner how do they do that ….I'm Super Interested I'm So Excited It will be a dream for me and my girls….

Gloria Rivera on January 4, 2010 at 5:14 pm
  16. Agree with Kathy about the Casita's glass-walled bathroom – mother-in-law will NOT want father-in-law watching her sitting on the toilet, a couple of feet from the bed! As always, a wonderful home, beautifully designed – but a GLASS toilet wall? WHAT were they thinking!!!!? If (when!) I win, my first job will be to put in a REAL wall before my guests arrive!

MargeS on January 4, 2010 at 11:21 pm
  17. The photographs of the Dream Home are spectular. The Photography had to capture the right, settings and angels to set off the gorgeous Home. Also, my question is where is the hutch/dresser for the master bedroom? Haven't seen anyplace to put your clothing? Has anyone else seen furniture for this?

    samz429 on January 5, 2010 at 1:52 pm
  18. What is fascinating to me as a new blog person is the richness of the area, the beautiful sunsets, and the way this remarkable home has nestled itself (bless the designers and builders) into the land. Just wondering if a on the three acres, a small horse can roam free. What are the restrictions? Dont have a horse, but in my dreams as I kid I imagined an adobe style abode, with horse that would trot up to the house-maybe it was a Great Dane, or Alpacca or something furry.

Janice on January 12, 2010 at 7:41 am
  19. Wow, it would be a dream come true to win the Dream Home in Mexico. I hope I do because right now I don't have a house, I live with my mother in law. I hope I win, Good Luck to all!

Gretchen on January 12, 2010 at 7:12 pm
  20. Just out of curiosity, how much land comes with the dream home. And are there any restrictions about horses in the area? Can more land be purchased with that in mind?

The home is wonderful. St. Fe is the most awesome community. Beautiful vistas and beautiful people! My husband is a 21 year veteran of the Army and we both live in Kansas. I can see us living in that area. Would be wonderful to spend our years having a home like this to entertain our grandchildren!

KSMeMa on January 12, 2010 at 10:40 pm
    • There are 3 acres with the property, but horses aren't allowed according to the home owner association rules for the community.

  21. Watching these videos and photos of this house just makes me cry! I am only 22 years old but with 3 children! We currently live with my Grandmother in Ky because we don't have enough income to afford our own place at the time with 3 children we barely have enough to pay the essential bills and the essentials for our children. I would love to win this home on the account of my children won't think of me as failures when they grow older they can think of their mother as a woman that tried so best to raise them and deserve enough to win a dream home for all of them! If I don't win it that;s ok too on of account I know that other people are deserving to win this home as well even though I have prayed for a dream home! Good Luck to Everyone and Have a Great Day!

april harris on January 14, 2010 at 6:19 am
    • Your kids will most likely will respect you did what you do with what you have, especially because it isn't a lot. If you need to win a $2,000,000 prize for your kids to not think you're a failure, something is terribly, horribly, wrong.

  22. how big is the master bedroom anyways it looks big but what is the footage of it. and does this include the master bath as well. and does it have a solar panel on the roof to be a little eco friendly.
