A Little Spice is Nice
You love HGTV Dream Home 2010. Would give your eyetooth to fly out to New Mexico right now and take in those gorgeous sunsets. Just ain’t gonna happen with your busy life and small budget? I have a great idea: Plan a New Mexican soiree at your house and serve up our signature HGTV Dream Home margarita.
I whipped up a batch of these babies last night. Wow! I admit, I did tweak the recipe a bit: I used a jalapeño pepper and threw in a small chunk of celery, just to cut the heat. The recipe is super easy and our friends at Food Network just posted a how-to video with Monica Pedersen. Check it out! Drink a few — and HGTV Dream Home 2010 may come into clear view.

What is that woman doing in my kitchen??
I absolutely love that the house is not kitchen-centric! Honestly, as much as I like to be in the party as it's going on, I can't stand have the ent-ire house smelling to whatever we're cooking and brewing and drinking. This kitchen is set up in a manner that we can cook and enjoy the party in the great room, keep an eye out on the dinning room and, once the party is over and you're retiring, your bed linen in the MB is not a reminder of your party too!
Great lay-out! Great recipe! Here's to some more spice!
Love HGTV
Silvana
Still taking in all the photos and videos and details… okay, one thing bothers me – as much as I love the details, I don't need to know about the apples, the lillies and see 3 or 4 photos of them… I want to see another detail of the room, such as the finishing of the corner ceiling with the window with the wall in the dinning room… or be able to see the indoor-outdoor look from the dinning room without the sunlight interference… no use for 14 photos when 4 of them are of apples!
About the casita – that's for the babysitter… my family and friends will sleep inside the house with me… the sitter will require some privacy on her down time (she'll be paid with what's left of the $500k for taxes)…
Is it me, or there's a huge window in the MB shower without any curtains? I have always – always – wanted that in my life! To be able to bathe like I'm bathing outside… the best I've managed is a skylight which we have in our house… so I have sunlight in the bathroom with no concerns for privacy… if the next door neighbor is THAT far out, then, WOW – got a dream home indeedy!
I think this is very beautiful dream home. Actually, I loved DH 2008 even more, but I did not know for HGTV then. I discovered and started with DH 2009, which was so beautiful. Then, I loved and hoped for Green Home 2009. Now I think this one DH 2010 is the most beautiful.
About blogs: A little spice is nice.
Monica would be the perfect hostess at my Dream Home Coctail Party. I would however have some fine wine available for my friends who don't want such strong liquor. I remember watching several people in my early days take a shot of Tequila with a chaser of salt. It didn't take long for things to get rowdy. I would save the jalapeno for my Mexican Potato Soup, which needs no alcohol, and gives a kick naturally.
Gorgeous Kitchen! I am not really a great cook but would spend alot of time in that kitchen….Cooking mexican food, my favorite! WOW..HGTV ROCKS!
I have always loved New Mexico and a plus it is a Southwestern Style home. That has always been my dream to own one. My parents would come and live with me if I won this home. Looking forward to see all of you at the grand opening. Ha Well I can dream anyway.
PLAN TWO. I have a house 20 miles south of Albuquerque, which is now a rental, due to my husbands job taking us to the east coast. It will be available again soon. Ha. Good Luck to us all.
Everything in this house is FABULOUS!!! I can see myself there- I love New Mexico and watch HGTV everyday. I Love the details right down to the see through garage doors. Love it, Love it, Love it!!!! It is Perfect.
I will have to attempt to make this new Spicy Margaritas. Mmmmmm
i really wonder how it tastes if you make one let me know if its good
Hey ruthie are you excited and getting to that margarita yet I am in a dry county but this weather doesn't want me across 2-3 county lines for that celebration Good LUCK we all need it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG! I love that tiled backsplash! It is beautiful, & looks easy to clean as I envision my southwestern chili splattering all over it! LOL!!!
This home is perfect with the environment! This house reminds me of a quiet storm. It feels warm and cozy, simple and sweet, but for 2 million dollars it’s bursting with class, quality and excellence.
Of all of the dream homes, before, during and after I bet it will always stay in the top 10 for design. Beautiful in so many way.
mmmm yeah I think I may try this drink as well thanks im not to sure about jalapenp though though lol but I may like it in A drink
As a native New Mexican, I am a bit of a purist and believe tequila should be taken in a shot glass – or a double shot glass – with lime and salt – salt first, tequila shot next, and followed by the lime ( lemon works also) – your soiree or as we call it, fiesta, will be complete only when the green chile is served and the mariachis play – just a sidenote here the DH is just fantastic and winning would be great as the contest end on February 19th, my birthday, and the winner will be announced on March 14th, my wife's birthday – kismet, fate or what? I am sure my wife will try the margarita recipe and thank you for it. Viva Nuevo Mexico! PS. there are indeed many black bears, cougars and coyotes in the area.
Indeed there are wild animals in the area. We spent two years recently, living in a new development south of Albuquerque and heard the coyotes every night. They kept our neighbors big Lab on guard. The scorpions centipeds and black widow spiders can also be a challenge, along with the high winds drifting sands and flash floods during Monsoon season. I'll be back, one way or the other however. I own a house there, which we rent out.
Texas has my heart, but New Mexico has my soul. I would be pleased to have this home!
btw: i like Christmas
Answer to the famous Red or Green??
Tried the Margarita – fabulous! I loved Margaritas before, but this is even better!
I love margarita's, but the HGTV margarita is the best. Thanks, Monica, for the recipe. Just wish I was in New Mexico in that gorgeous HGTV Dream Home enjoying one! : )
I caught the end of one of the dream home shows, where they were throwing some sort of party in the motor court. I was wondering where I could find some of the recipes for the appetizers they showed. The looked wonderful.
I really love the HGTV Dream Home 2010 and also Monika's beautiful Santa Fe leather jacket, I'd love to purchase one of those

I'd love to know what the taxes will be on the house, car and money. Nobody seems to want to answer that question. I think It's so high that the HGTV dream house will remain a dream to anyone who wins it because they won't be able to afford the taxes. Does anyone know how many winners of the past HGTV dream homes have been able to keep their dream homes and are currently living in them? Are they up to ears in debt? Don't get me wrong I'd love to win a "free" home, car and $500,000 but not at the expense of going into debt to do it. I don't think most Americans can afford to do it.
i was reading where a couple lived in their home for a year and paid like 69,000 on the taxes and sold the million dollar home paid the realtor 78,000 and came out with 800,000
He also said that you will only gain from the win you can't lose and HGTV is there to help the whole way through. He said in Maryland the taxes were 38.6% But he only came out the better when he decided to sale the home. I would love to keep the NM home if my galz like the schools and location. I don't own I rent it may be harder to get the extra loan to help pay off taxes for me I looked at NM's tax laws and found out they are a bit lower for single's I am only parent and it might be easier for me to try to keep it.Good Luck to us all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Before you go from a chili to a habenaro go use a jalapano but not as much.. the chili is a very nice touch and pleasant, the peppers won't be as relaxing..
WOW – Whey! Good margarita! Perfect for some Texans like us!
Hi – I'm a little late with my comment. Can't wait to try the margarita! Is there a link to the rest of the finger foods featured at the Soiree? It looks like there is a green chili cream cheese spread? Sorry if this is a repeat request. I look forward to your reply.
I think it is on the HGTV food network site Althogh I am not sure you can try it . Good Luck !!!!!!!!!!!
The spicy margarita sounds absolutly terrific. I can't wait to try it. Thank you for sharing more of your fabulous party ideas.
I would love to fly to New Mexico right this moment. To enjoy the beauty.
I could make that house a HOME… The spice and all New Mexico has to offer.,that would thrill me. I am a warm weather person as is my husband living in coastal Virginia. We get cold here and would love to warm our bones. Eileen
I love the architectural structure of it. The interior design is absolutely well thought thru and beautifully put together. I can definitely see myself mediating there with the universe. Inspirational.
I know what your saying it all looks so relaxing and entertains itself and one of my favorites is the dining room and the big doors it has and the extra room for the dishwasher LOVE IT LOVEIT Good LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The combination of feminine and masculine qualities – the spectacular kitchen for my gourmet cook husband – the outdoor feeling indoors that fits our mutual love of nature and the elements – the impeccable detail around every corner and in every crack and crevice – the fact that my parents and two siblings and their families have landed in NM in the last 10-years – all these reasons and more make this home a perfect fit for our familyl! My son has been considering Univ. of NM and daughter is months away from graduating HS. Perfect timing too! Not to mention the desire to get away from the high NY taxes and cold weather! KUDOS to the designers and for choosing NM to build this amazing home!! Looking forward to meeting the HGTV team and having the opportunity to thank ALL contributors at our house warming party!!
I love margaritas as much as the next person but right now, I'm not interested in that. My focus is on the AMAZING backsplash / tiled wall!! Never seen anything so beautiful and elegant in a kitchen! Think I heard it was designed by a local designer. Would love to have more info on that.
Oh my Gosh!! This kitchen is to die for!! I just love the tranquility and simplicty of this functional, luxurious space!! I can see myself mixing some spicy margaritas! And yes, the first party MUST include these!!
How creative! Having a party end of Feb. and plan on making this. Not going to tell them about the ingredients and see if they pick up on that
my tiny who 9 came home from school the other day and said mommy you need to stop smoking marijuana in regards to my cig. i have lit then i had to try to explain my cigarrette is not the same thing i really don't know if she fully understood what i was saying i do not drink i live in a dry county and have never had alchol in my home but i could just imagine trying to sneek a sip wouldn't that be so FUNNY!!!!!!!!
I just had to go back and take a look at this post, after seeing all the bins with 40 million entries. The receipe is very unique and I must say Monica you look stunning in that kitchen. Your eyes light up the tile back splash, I think they maybe the same color.
Well I've go to see if I have all my ingredients for the drink so that I can have a bangin' party when I win(keeping my fingers crossed)
See you on the trail!!!!!!!!!
Looking out my window in Illinois, with stacks of snow on the ground – all I ever dream about is having a Margarita in New Mexico with some sun on my back!!! No kidding…
Oh heck, I didn't win the 2010 New Mexico Dream Home, but a wonderful deserving lady did. In the meantime, I will mix up a batch of the 2010 Dream Home Cocktails and wallow in self-pity.
Just had a St. Paddy blast with these Nortenos. I used roasted Hatch chilis for my sauce and it was far superior to the batch i made with fresh serranos. a touch of trplsec and that's a winner.
Thanks for sharing this. I love also spice in foods and most specially healthy and nutritious foods for my body. Maintaining our body healthy is a must to protect it from diseases. Important Nutritional info can be found here: http://eatrightamericacafe.com
