GAIL, THANK YOU!! Thank the camera man, as well. HE did a great job… Though, I would enjoy to see more, much more. I did see that there appears to be a small area beside the fireplace in the Sunrise Room that I have to go back and watch again to figure out what its use is!! Unless, you would love to tell us!?! HINT Did you have a wonderful time? How can I want to win this DH more and How can I love it more!!! You have given me some excitement today… The views are breathtaking!! I felt as if I was walking around in the home!!! Great Job!! AGAIN! Love life by living green and having a dream!!
Great videos, and thanks for telling us about them, Gail! I did have trouble navigating to the right ones, so I saw a lot of HGTV show previews! Oh well, I love HGTV shows, so it wasn't bad. The videos gave better perspective than the 360 tours, and like reneelovesgreen, I'm going back to look at things more closely. Every day, I choose a different room to analyze. Hmm, today I think I'll check out the office…
Fantastic and thank you Gail!! Also thank you to all who have been posting the information on more technical aspects of the DH, i.e. solar, radiant heating….and the more 'mundane' issues such as HOA dues, taxes, ability to add more outbuildings, animals…
Thanks Gail for the newest video/vlog…I truly enjoyed my morning coffee and a new tour of my (hope against hope) new home. Everyday I have more ideas of how I would be able to stay in this wonderful and exciting home. I love the area so much as it reminds me of a mixture of where I am from (Utah) and where I am now (Phoenix). The best of both worlds, and I like the fact that it blends with the surrounding landscape. We as bloggers are helping one another often with questions, my thanks to many but especially "reneelovesgreen", "SPODutch" and "DBCoop" their input has been invaluable. Wishing you a great day, and once again thanks for all your wonderful information.
p.s. There have been many questions regarding A/C, can you shed some light on that subject?
JASON, Bravo!! You are a wonderful talent. I saw the space once again, tucked beside the fireplace in the Sunrise Room… It appears to be a beverage center for the morning java or late night treat, water, etc., but, don't take my word for it. I am sure that GAIL will fill us in very soon along with a few other items. I am so jealous of your trip to the DH2010, GAIL! (Not a bad jealousy, just a "I want to do that", jealousy) Melanie1150, thank you for your kind words. Marie, are you getting back in the groove? We have missed you much. Love life by living green and having a dream!!
GAIL and JASON and all others involved. Marvelous new videos and information. It's nice to hear from the designers how their thought processes worked. I think for all those who dislike various aspects of the design, learning the philosophies behind them contributes to enjoyment. Thank you again, all, for a truly wonderful experience. With all the chaos and fear in our world today, I, for one, greatly need a chance to take a deep breath along with my green tea and just dream. Good for your soul as well as your body.
Great job Gail. The more I see of the HGTV DREAM HOME the more I love it. I think that my eye balls are learning new tricks on how to look at this home.
You wonderful Bloggers were certainly loquacious yesterday. I was away all day and still haven't gotten through all the comments and replies. Love you all, Debbie in chchchilly Florida.
Hi Gail–Thanks for the heads-up on these videos! It IS just like walking through yourself. In fact, after viewing the entry leading into the various "spaces", it feels like a giant loft — BEAUTIFUL! There has been a lot of negative talk about this home on other blogs and websites, but I think it's STUNNING! Love the modern aspects and those views are amazing! One of the design flaws, according to the naysayers, are the sliding doors between the master and the bath, but I've seen this feature in hotels in Europe and Asia. To each his/her own, I guess. I LOVE every inch of it!
Have a great week~
Gail asked for suggestions for a name / title for the iron shaman series sculpture. She suggested LinJack for obvious reasions. I adore this sculpture, having clammored over many very rocky "trails" to see as many as I can. The one just west of ABQ is wonderful. But here's an idea that I think would be fun, and hopefully, not too insulting to the sculptor or the old spirits of the area. Write a caption for this sculpture..How about "DBCoop Sees a Beare" "You Just Did What?!?" I thought of several related to the casita and its body function view, but I'll not go there. On that subject, I believe that our tile designer may have answered the puzzle of why in the world anyone would have the toilet on view. I think it was to keep that wonderful wall as an uninterrupted feature. That's why I really favor the idea of the fogged glass feature.
I think the sculpture name should include "Dream" in it — like Dream Keeper, Guardian of Dreams, etc.
How about "Bearer of Dreams?"
Okay with me! I think I'll go with 'Dreams of Bears'—hopefully friendly ones.
Of course, not having a picture or the Coopster, he may not have the necessary foliage to register that terror…like my wonderfu, extremely sexy husband, who is short of a full compliment of hair.
Now I'll be quiet and make room for others to speak.
i need suggestion for paint color that matches well with red swade sofa …
Chocolatte truffle is a beautiful rich brown.
Hi Lori! Thanks for the shout out Lessie!
Lori – What other colors do you have in the room now as far as furniture? Tables? Light colored wood, dark colored wood? Is your woodwork natural wood or painted? Any other favorite pieces you want to use in that room? Can you describe any of them or are you just working simply with the red suede sofa and taking it from there?
Living the Dream!
I do like all of the additional views because I was able to picture myself there walking in and outside the home. My favorite was the walk around because it felt like I was able to be on the outside the home and see were everything is placed. I really like how the home has living spaces outside which can be taken advantage of with the 300+ days of sun.
I wanted the house before and I now I have to have it–now! Hahah.
No, seriously, this is our dream home, especially since my wife has been a fan of Alice and Wonderland since she as a kid and now we have two little ones that can flourish in the play house, in the dream home, and in the beautiful outdoors as well. I would like the outdoor grilling with amazing natural views and the SUV! It would fit us so well.
Dreaming of the HGTV Dream Home!
Troy,
Where would you work? Would be hard to move a family without a job in New Mexico.
Good luck though!
And thank you, melanie1150—kind words from the blogging community here at HGTV are part of the fun we all share.
LOL, not that it's for better or for worse, DebbieFlorida, but I will admit to a full head of hair! But as they say, hair today, gone tomorrow, and either way, it's all good.
Nice of you to think of immortalizing DBCoop with an iron shaman sculpture, DebbieFlorida, but my view would tend towards a name that captures the native Southwest spirit. We'll have to work on that together as a blogging community. I'm sure we can come up with the perfect fit.
Awesome Home !!!, My '68 Camaro would sure look sweet in that garage
Try a tan with no pink, yellow or orange in it, like Havana Tan by Benjamin Moore, if you want to tone down the red. Browns calm down reds, so if you need a color that tames the energy in red, browns are the way to go. On the other hand, if you want high energy, use whites or yellows. Blues and greens are great with red if you want a lively, bold combination like a nautical or tropical theme.
Chocolate Brown! The way to go to compliment red. Add a touch of white and your room will come alive with aahhs! I have brown suede sofa and loveseat, accented with red chairs, lamp shades, and white sheers! Such a pleasing combination.
Way too fast. It was more like running through than walking trough. How about slowing it down so we can see more of the details.
Totally agree
I can handle watching it at that speed. Some people (dh for example) gets motion sickness. He looks away when video is done in this fashion. It has been happening in a lot of the filming with tv shows. He can't watch them due to this.
I enjoyed seeing the video…..thank you.
I don't know if the other people watched the same video as us, because I also thought it was a "run" through, not a walk through and it didn't show me anything I hadn't seen before. The walk around the house was something a little new, but everything else I had seen before and it didn't even go into half the rooms! I want to see close up details and a slower pace video so we can take it all in! I'm still not sure what all the white spaces on the floor plan are either =
There is a bathroom near the office. There is a laundry room shared between the guest bedroom and kids bedroom along with a closet for the guest bedroom and a bit of hallway. There is a utility room behind the home theater room that opens to the outside only. and there is a hallway in the master suite from the sunrise room to the entry foyer. I think that covers all the white spaces in the floor plan. The floor plan on hgtvpro is a big help for figuring this out.

what a gorgeous home. I have faith that god will pick the right person to win it!
I pray this year too that God does a miraculous picking!!!
It is definitely in HIS hands. What a blessing it will be!!
Where is this info posted concerning solar, radiant heating, AC, taxes, dues, pets etc? I must have missed it. These three videos have been great, thanks Gail.
Love the HGTV Home! Want it! Loved the videos, but would love to see more of the house that way, and slower! Great job!
the walk through videos are wonderful, though a little too fast and with distorted edges from the special lens.
I really hadn't noticed the ottoman empire before…
The extra seating they provide will definitely help with any indoor (due to weather) Santa Fe soirees.
What are the taxes? How close is the next house? How far to the food store?
That would be me!
Thank you very much, Gail, & to the camera man also! I love this house already & have great hopes set on winning it for my wife & son, but the newest videos you spoke of that I just watched made me fall in love all over again. I believe the best video I LOVED watching though was that of the show that had been on HGTV about the Dream Home 2010. I watched the show when it was on TV, but then rewatched this video of it & it just really set in what a blessing this home, car, & the money would be for my family. All I can do is hope & pray that God sees it through to help us out of a desperate situation. It made me want to cry just having the reality of it shown so well in that video & knowing the possibility that it could change my family's lives for the better. Thank you for bringing it so clearly to my mind's eye. I truly appreciate it.
colette – I posted some info in the previous blog (A Little Spice is Nice) – I think it's on page 5. Others have also made various posts in that blog about the things you are looking for.
Georgia – I posted info on some of this in the previous blog (A Little Spice is Nice) – I think page 5. I believe the community is still under development; I do know that the lot sizes are a minimum of 3 acres. Someone had posted somewhere that there is a grocery store near by. I think within about 10 miles from the development.
I loooove the videos of the house! Living in Albuquerque I'm so used to see pueblo, stucco, and southwestern style houses. Sometimes it can get old, I've been dying to see something new that works but doesn't take away from the base of our culture. It is so refreshing to see how the designers and builders have taken contemporary styles and mixed it all perfectly with the culture of the southwest. My favorite part of the house (other than the HUGE gorgeous kitchen) is the master bath! The sliding barn doors between the master suite and the bath are most definitely not a mistake, they make the bathroom POP with boldness! The videos are amazing and I can't wait to walk through that house and see it with my own eyes!! Thanks Gail!!!
Amanda Torres, I like the way you expressed the way many of us feel about the mix of styles in "our" DH. I certainly agree with you.
I so agree! Kiva fireplaces are a dime a dozen.
Okay, MARY and GAIL, what's the name of that town in New Mexico—Truth or Consequences?
The truth be told, about the videos that Jason did SO expertly—well, they simply run through too fast for my "experienced" (aka older) eyes to adjust to, and in order to pick up on details I'd like to look more carefully at, I'm constantly toggling back and forth from pause to play.
I find that the 360 virtual tours are perfect for doing just that—I can go through as quickly, or slowly, as I wish, and quite easily, zooming in or out with little effort. The photography team does an amazing job in bringing the Dream Home to life right in our own homes, on our computer screens, with the 360 effect.
Now, the videos that feature a presenting host, such as the one with Erin Adams talking about all of the great glass tile used in the Dream Home, are super. They're informational, engaging, and entertaining. All of the hosted videos (including GAIL's of course) are a joy to watch. Not only is there the visual appeal of the subject (the Dream Home) but the virtual interaction with the host(s) is an added benefit.
Truth or Consequences is a town in Southern NM – about four hours drive from Albuquerque. It has a pretty big lake that's great for water sports, not as good for fishing as some of the other lakes (northern nm lakes are best for fishing). We locals call the town T or C.
More like T r C huh Elle! it is funny to read these out of towners take on NM isn't it?
Truth or Consequences….I REMEMBER this show. Bob Barker's crew was good at surprising many people! You could laugh/cry when moments like this happened.
As a kid, we drove pass the town's name. I couldn't believe it was the ACTUAL name. Can you imagine having to write your address with a name THAT long!
It used to be called something else; a Spanish name but I can't remember just a thought….They changed it in the 60's I believe.
I checked out the videos yesterday..PortiaBelmont and Ariz.Shelle u guys are right it should be slower..want to take in every detail..still loved it though! The 360's are amazing but the exterior video shows u so much more of the outside. I have a 19 month old baby girl and she would love the dream play home. The grill and lounge section is perfect for my hubby..he loves to grill and invite everyone over! But over a year ago he lost his job due to injuries from a car accident. We live in small but comfortable apt but are in over $60,000 of debt. We are trying to make the best of what life has to offer us and hope that one day things go back to normal..and also that few dreams come true ; ) I'm already picturing myself and my lil' family living there! Even checked online for schools for the little one to go to in few years in Sandia Park…hahahaha..Am I going crazy??? It doesn't hurt to dream, right? Keep ur fingers crossed for me..I'll keep mine crossed for u! Have been entering HGTV Dream Home for few years now..get depressed everytime they knock on someone else's door…but truly happy for the winners (Gail, maybe you can get video updates on the past winners!).
I do love that steel sculpture…maybe we could just simply call him the 'CEO'! That being, 'Chief Enchantment Officer'. I can see it now…me having a wonderful Soiree and when someone asks if they can have another specialty cocktail, I can say, "Sure, but you have to ask the CEO first."
Living the Dream!
Very creative Lynn.
Thank you, Lynn Coggin for the address it will help me
Does anyone know if there will actual physical tours available? We live in NM and would love to be able to see it in person.
David, they have not released the info on the tours. You will have to park offsite and they will have a shuttle to bring you to the DH2010. The fees will be donated to a local charity! I hope you have a great time viewing this beautiful home!!
I was just going to ask that question, I live about 30 miles away (from the HGTV house) and a group of us from work (I work in Albuquerque) want to go on the tour. I did read in the Albuquerque Journal that they are supposed to start the end of this month and through February and the proceeds donated to a local charity. The tickets in the paper were quoted at $20.00, so I hope they advertise when they start.
David, when you go on the tour, please come back and share as many details as possible with fellow bloggers.
hahaha…i like that Lynn!!!!!
Hi Gail, I couldn't get past the steel structure because the videos wouldn't advance. However, although I know the intent of LinJa, I don't think I would call it that. I would do some research on the structure. It obviously had a name or represented someone or something when the artist drew it on the rock. That's the name I would give it.
24×24! That's one huge structure. It doesn't look that big, but compared to the background, it is small. Thanks for all you do for us.
Lori Campoli, Lynn Coggin is our resident paint expert. When she reads your question, I'm sure she'll give you a recommendation.
Portia Blemont, seems like you're an expert at color energy. Good suggestions.
I agree, Coop.
Georgia, Gail answered "how close is the next house" and "how far to the food store" in her video. Not far.
Truth is exactly what you've written Coop. Thanks.
You're not going crazy ImMiZaFL, you're just an HGTV Dream Home dreamer!
Lynn, Great idea!! How creative!
Gillian, please remember to share as many details as possible after going on the tour. Thanks!
I drove past the development a few times this fall, and I friend of mine and I tried to enter that compound but it is gated and they wouldn't let us in. You can not see that particular house from the road and it is in an area with very few houses. Just about 5-10 miles south (on the same road Route 14 north) are a lot more homes at the entrance to the road that goes to the top of the Sandia mountains. They just built a golf course community called Paa-Ko. If you want to find that on line that will give people an idea of the area and the prices of "regular" homes. Will let the blog know when the tours start if I can find out and what our group (the people that I work with woho are big HGTV fans), impressions of the house.
Great videos of this wonderfully refreshing house!! Every time I watch a different video or go through the 360 photos, I find some thing special that I missed before. This is a tremendous house in a fantastic location. My wife is starting to dream about living there, so we will keep entering and keep our fingers crossed that her dreams come true.
Yes, Coop, you are correct.. But, you know how they love to tease us and start the debates… I think that they secretly are giggling at the bantering!! Wasn't it interesting about motor oil being used to melt the metal for the eco-tiles in the kitchen? People are getting more and more creative at reusing items previously thought of as trash! Have a great one… and give Show Me a big hello!!
Thank you Gillian_NM! Will look forward to your report. I've already checked out the Paa-Ko community. It's beautiful and the golf course is magnificent! Is it a gated community also? From your statements, I'm assuming Paa-Ko has more homes than SPO. Are the homes comparable in price?
Hi Gail, thanks so much for the videos and thank you to he camera man as well. He did a wonderful job capturing the views of the house. Its so exciting to see this, it gave the feeling that this is my home. It was nice to see the kids play house outside as well because you didnt really see that with photos. I thought it was cute that the style of the play house is based off the original. This is truly a dream home!!!
Hello, thanks for telling us about the new videos. I loved them, but they were a bit fast! Guess I just want to be there to do my own slow "walk around"! I have a few questions about the house that I hope you can help me with. Do you know what type of central heat/air the house has? Do you have a 'guestimate' of what the initial taxes are on winning this house? (I'm afraid most of that $50k is going to go for those taxes!). My last question is about the outdoor furniture – does it need protection from the sun in the summer, and the rain/snow in winter? Thanks for your helpful comments.
I'd think less so in the summer, and more so in the winter, but it would make sense to cover it during any season when not being used. The coyotes might find it comfortable to sleep on during the night!
Hi Lessie;
Paa-Ko is not a gated community and has many different builders. The home prices range to the HGTV house and down to probably around $400,000.00. There is also Sandia Park which hase houses of all prices and that is in the same area.
