This year dream home is really fantastic. My fathers family comes from New Mexico. My sister and her husband go down every year to vist family. I was really excited to here about this build and have been following every step since you stared. HGTV is my favert channel. I have done small jobs I have leartned from your program. thank you Benita
The house is perfect! If I win the only thing that I will change is the formal dining room furniture. Both of my parents died 5 days apart from each other last march. My brothers sold all the furniture, but no one bought the dinning room set. That dining room set was sacred in our family; I think that it is because meals were taken very serious in our home and with our family. We spend more time in the kitchen and the dining room than other room in our house; I wish I had the money and the space in my house.
The home is great ,what are the sizes of the rooms? How much are the taxes and all together what is the total price of everything before you can take over the house ? My daugther is so excited about the house, the playhouse she wants her quite space, haha. I have a 19 year old granddaugther she lost her father which is my only son a couple years ago, he came up missing in Dec, and they found his body 3 mo, 3weeks, and 3 days later we had nothing but a skelton left ,On April 1st April fools Day so we are wanting to move from KC and start over again. The HGTV family has done a great job of that home. I was wondering about the snakes to, did you see any? I watch all of the HGTV programs, Jamie has a real good eye for his outside spaces. The colors in the DH are beautiful the kitchen is to die for, I live in a duplex I cannot do any changes. I want to win the DH so I can have some room. May God Bless whoever wins this home.
The tile is more than just glass or clay – this tile was placed with the imagination and heart of the artisans. Their comments reflected where they knew the tile would bring out the natural beauty of the space; their care & compassion for the creative Zen in their mosaic patterns just takes my breath away and draws me into their beautiful work like a magnet. When I know what attitude the artist imbues into his/her work it ignites a flame in my mind that wants me to gaze again, and again at their work. Thank you, thank you for such wonderful art from clay & glass………
Gail, I love it, love it. It has great features and views. It inspires me to want more for myself and I could actually Dream and hope that one day I could live in a home like that. Every thing was well put together. Great job guys!!!!!!
I've read many comments and it's interesting what each part of the home the person selected to comment on. There are so many aspects to the home, it's hard to pick a favorite thing. I'm like one other reader, who every time they watch a video, something new catches the eye. There is something for everyone in the family, regardless of age. The placement of the home on the property couldn't be more perfect as well as the colors chosen inside and out. The home melds itself to the landscape and the colors display the calmness of the day and the intensity of the night skies, like the tile in the casitas. Taking the tours is a great way to feel "at home" in this home. . Jason did do a great job! Thank you for this perspective. It is a place anyone would love to call "home."
Gail, Just wanted to tell you that you are the perfect tour guide for the DREAM HOME. The enthusiasm in your voice is uplifting and fun. Anyway, if I win the dream home it will LITERALLY BE A DREAM COME TRUE!!!! I LIVED IN MADRID and dreamed of living up at Sandia peak (park) we called it Peak then, and used to go up there to look at the stars and the comets…….it's undecribable!!! Like being so close to heaven you can reach out and touch it!
The Dream Home is in the perfect spot! I have such fun memories of that area. Like cruising down waldo road and up and down the Devil's Throne….it was alot rougher back then. Hanging out at the boarding house and the mineshaft and dancing at the blues festival at the baseball park. I moved back down south NM to be close to my mother and I miss Madrid and all my madroid friends so much. I visit about 2 x per year but not near as much as I'd like to. I have dreamed of having a home up there since I was 13 years old and first went to Madrid after my first concert "The Grateful Dead" the only time they played in NM. It was 3 days at Santa Fe Downs. Can you imagine? It was like a whole new world….Beautiful. Thank you for building my dream home HGTV and giving me a chance to live my lifelong dream. Marlena
Hello Gail; my name is Valerie, which means strength in spanish. finally they ("meaning HGTV") have thought about me, and other dissabled people. it is about time. most of the time i never enter for the dream home sweepstakes, but this one is perfect for me. not everyone can live in these dream homes. most of the time the houses, and surronding area are made of levels. this one i can see myself in. finally HGTV has made a home that a person with special needs can even dream about now. i have family in New Mexico, an uncle i have only met twice in my life. my father was born, and raised there. thankyou HGTV for finally making something this handicapped woman in Oregon can dream of now. the home is absolutly beautiful. truly what my dreams are made of. thank you
Ever since I first saw this 2010 dream home….I've been dreaming about it every night! Seriously. After looking at all the rooms, the styles, the landscape, size of the lot, and extra guest room outside it was like someone drew up a blueprint of what our dream home and built it. I was so excited I shared the pictures with my 7 yr. old daughter. She was even more excited. But we both almost died when we noticed an extra room outside of the house called the play house…..we clicked on the pictures and we both almost died when we saw that it was a cute little Alice in Wonderland tea party play room! We were both like, okay, this is just amazing! My daughter and I LOVE Alice in Wonderland, and she is always asking me to make her room a Alice in Wonderland themed room…..it will be like going to disneyland every day for her and my youngest son who is 4.:) The house itself is amazing……I have never won anything in my whole life, but to win something like this would put the biggest smile on my face and my familiy's. I can always dream right? We will keep dreaming till then. Good luck to the winner and enjoy it for us.
That was awesome! Is this area a new development? I truly enjoyed watching the videos and you guys did a great job. The only thing that was missing was my family and I in it!!!!!!!!!
This could be a dream come true for us. The structure and architectural work is simply amazing. Military life is something we have been accustomed to, moving around so much can be overwhelming. But if we win, this will be a true blessing from God and something we can finally call our stable home. I would love to live in it with my loving family!
although I don't know much about the desert, I am in awe of this fabulous place. I enter each day, but deep inside, i know i will probably not win, i've never won a thing in my life. but for the lucky winner, i was wondering why there is no indoor or outdoor pool.
It's a Masterpiece!! The views taken on location…a glimpse of the interior, the lighting and fixtures, furniture, furnishings, the walls, ceilings and floors…and then the reveal of exterior rooms, plants, trees and hardscape against the southwestern skyline took my breath away. Great Work of Art!!! Thank you for opening windows and doors for creativity.
Hello Gail! I thought the video's were amazing. I checked them out long before I saw your blog. I know everyone hopes to win this wonderful home but I keep praying that it is us. My fiancee would be completely flabbergasted to come home after basic training to our empty apartment with only detailed instructions and a plane ticket waiting. In our dream home my toddler and I would wait until we can be reunited again. Just wishful thinking.
Yes, the local artists did tune the home into what could only be termed a "tour de force" for contempory and heart felt creations that trimmed the home to draw you into a moment of reflection for another pulse of New Mexico. The warmth and morden charm of the pieces lets me ponder the possibilities of exploring local art galleries and deepening my appreciation for the local culture and what makes this part of the Southwest so unique. I can only hope that a visit to an old friend, Santa Fe, will open my mind and heart to new adventures and discoveries in art.
What a beautiful home, truly a dream home for a very lucky family. I know everyone who takes the tour is visualizing living there. The details and the colors are perfect. Love it! The hard work and talent is showcased in this home.
The home and site are beautiful. What a wonderful spot for hosting respite. One question though, what doesn't the master bath include jets?
Why no jets. To maintain the peace in view of the mountains. No noisy jets. Just a hot soak and beautiful view.
Hi!
What a GREAT birthday (for my husband) gift and 36 year anniversary (I married him on his birthday!) gift the Dreamhome Giveaway would be on March 15th for my husband and I! Retiring in New Mexico would be the ultimate DREAM!!!
~Teresa~
hi Gail; Valerie again. i love going on to the deam home everyday, and picture myself coming out the front door. i pray that god will help me win this home. i need some good in my life. i died on April 3, 2009. i went into anaphalactic shock 3 times in a row. on the second my heart stopped. it was just long enough for my brain to do strange things to the mechanics of my speaking. i sound like i have had a stroke, but i have not. i have been to see a few doctors, but they can not help me. i had to say goodbye to my beautiful voice. you do not know the challenge to speak, until you have one. something so basic, you don't even think about it, till it is gone. my 73 year old mother has cancer for the second time, and is on chemo again. i used to be her caregiver, but now i have take care of myself. i need a place where she, and i can live out the rest of our lives in comfort. she deserves it. i am dissabled now, and need to keep her close to me. still handicapped, and dreaming in Oregon. i am hispanic, and i do speak the language. my father was born, and raised in folsom. thank you HGTV for touching so many lives, and making dreams come true.
Hello Everybody, and Gail, My PC has been down ,and I just now have been able to view some of the videos, they were great , Lessie , I still don't see the third bathroom ,but I will view the videos again, The thing about this Dream of winning this ,is I do get excited about the DH ,and the Terrain, I truly do need a dependable car, but, my heart really hurts for everybody here when I read how badly they need this home, so many seem to need this so much ,that I feel torn inside for wanting to win it too. I think about If I did win , how disappointed so many people will be . and it truly makes me very sad, I hope for all the ones that don't win , please don't lose hope, If you have family and good friends , cherish that gift of your family and friends, you have the most valuable prize ever, you have love , respect and honor. I've recently lost three family members, my Mother was one ,and I would take having her back any time over a New Home I 'm not wanting to put a damper on the Joy of this Wonderful Grand Happening , I just pray no one is so disappointed of not winning, that they get depressed. Enter for the DH, and Be happy ,HGTV has another DH to be excited for next year. And to the Winner ,May you enjoy every moment !!!! We will be Happy for you. as for me , if I win , I have thought of something special I want to do , and it will make me and others happy. Love to my friends here, Ali
Check the floorplan for the third bathroom near the office.
http://www.hgtvpro.com/hpro/photo_template/articl…
also look at the photos for the office. There are a couple pictures of that bathroom in that set.
Davidac, Hi, I know its been a few days since you helped me , I 'm still moving slow on my aging PC, still wants to work only when it wants too, and (its probably me too , still learning ) I have been looking at the site you gave me again , and again , and for the life of me I can't see a door to get to the office from inside the house , am I'm just looking at it wrong ,or do you have to enter the office from the outside. Just couldn't figure that out , as to how that could be true, LLL Thanks again for your help on the site , that was really nice of you . Ali
In the bottom middle of the floor plan, between the 9 and the 8. Note the three doors and the one opening. There is a small hall way off the entry hall. There is a coat closet and the 3/4 bath, and a door to the office from the inside.
wow Great job on the videos! My Name Is Chris And my family and I live In A mobile home In A small town and, when We First watchedThe vidoes We, fell in love with the home Even more.
The great views of the outside area around the home are Truely Amaseing and A site that every eye should see. that would be so awesome to hangout with my family by the outside kitchen/s grilling area, for A great family meal, then retreat to the outdoor fireplace with my wife shareing the moment with a few settle drinks. well thanks again you.
The videos are well done and one does get a sense of "being there." My wife Vivian and I don't live far from the DH. We reside in Tijeras in Redhawk Estates on the Turquoise Trail – This is truly a "Casa De Suenos" (dream house) and we dream about it as much as our fellow bloggers – unfortunately only one will win – yet we feel a sense of destiny where this Casa De Suenos is concerned – the contest ends on my birthday and the winner will be announced on my wife's birthday – in any case the place is fabulous and we look forward to welcoming the lucky folks who will win the DH – if we do not win it ourselves. If you are new to the area and would like to meet some locals please reply and introduce yourselves – New Mexico is truly The Land of Enchantment, I was born in Taos, New Mexico and my wife was born in Chama, New Mexico, we are the real deal – Native New Mexicans tied to the land and its inhabitants.
Buena Suerte to all.
Hi sandiaman,
Happy Birthday to you and your wife. There does appear to be a very special energy, perhaps by those who left there footprints behind. The first thing I did when I navigated through the great video, was to walk out the door to view the landscape, and kept viewing every pic of surrounding areas. What a place to live. The Casa De Suenos as you call it texturizes the landscape, does not stomp on the land, and now has left its own lasting impression. Its great that you have reached out to other folks. New Mexico has a way of drawing amazing friendly people- those who love the art of the land, the beauty and joy of the people and the inspiration that follows.
Hi Gail! The video was great however very fast as if I went back in the house to look for something that I forgot to bring with me. And YES! I definitely felt that going through the house help me to visualize my presence at the house.
Thanks , Davidac That is very kind of you to help me with the site,I'm very new with this computer stuff , but, my PC is telling me its old ,and needs to retire , just refuses to move sometimes, Its get up and go has got up and gone, we make a good pair at times, it makes me get up and get busy, thank goodness. I'm hooked on here to to much. LLL .Ali
Great Job HGTV Family!! I love NW because of the mild climate and views!! I love the fact that you are tucked away, but yet 15 miles (or so) to Albuquerque. Very Private!! My little yorkie terrier would love scouting that mountain terrain on our hikes together. I could move-in immedately!!
I did have a question: I see solar panels on the roof, is this the main source for power/elec? Thats good to see out there. Since the house probably only needs a swamp cooler(not a/c), I feel this home will be VERY inexpensive to operate year 'round. Good Job!!
Where are the closets in this place? I have only seen a closet in the Master Bedroom. Superfan Gail or anyone, could you tell me which video shows the closets in the other bedrooms? I know the house is great and I would l-o-v-e to live there… But really, where would the rest of my family hang their clothes?…LOL. Thank you for your time.
It has been said that the other closets are saved for the winner. But you can see they are in the house from the floor plan.
http://www.hgtvpro.com/hpro/photo_template/articl…
I loved the videos. I felt like I was in the house. Capturing all the details from the tile to the towel bars, the flooring, the outdoor landscaping, and even the water heater, got me dreaming even more. I wouldn't change a thing. Now I hope I get a chance to make the amazing cocktail for my guests. Thank you……
Hi Gail, Couple of questions. Why no TV in the Great Room or Kitchen area?
There is a lot of light in those rooms from outside. Any TV would be washed out. Never mind taking away from the beautiful view.
Other question is will the Master Bedroom accommidate a King size Bed.
I have though about that too. The chandelier lights look far enough apart to accommodate a kind size bed I think. Though my wife likes the headboard which would have to go with a King size bed. So we might have to squeeze together when we win. Thinking positively.
the 2010 home is perfect… i see so many complaints on this home of what one would change.. winning this home is more than anyone could ever dream of..maybe i have humbled myself of all the bad things in my life, and only wish to say my god what a gift to the lucky person who is the winner. i lost my husband to bone cancer from the time he was diagnosed to death 6 months..i slept on the floor of the hospice house each night so that when his time came he would not be alone. thank god i was there with him…1 year later i was diagnosed with breast cancer, which i went to treatments every day alone for 2 months in the same cancer ward my husband was in,so many memories there of fighting for his life now i am there also…but thank god i was going to be ok..with years of reconstructive surgery i feel good about life and and living, but that was not the end of things, the home that we shared which was not a great home…but my home was taken away by the banks because of forclosure..so i am living with family thank god they gave me a home until someday i may get on my own home again. so if any of us are lucky enough to be the winner look at it as a gift and be thankful…..for i know i would be. shelley
and i wish good luck to all who enter…someones dream will come true…
Shelley, I second that, I'am so very sorry you have been through so much, and if you do win, just know as for you, and all the other wonderful bloggers here too, I will be sharing your tears of Joy right there with you , truly from my heart. *Ali
how about a under ground pistol range, back side of dream home..
Dear Gail and Jason,
AbigTHANK YOU for the close-ups in the vidoes! It was great to get closer views of items that were difficult to see on the television special! DebbieFlorida, I thinlk that I'll name the big metal sculpture Dances With Wolves because it is always fun to dream about Kevin Cosner and DH2010!
Sweet Dreams, Fellow Dreamers!
Lucky Lady
P.S. Gail, are there wolves and rattlesnakes in NM????
Hello Lucky Lady , Yes indeed , there can be snakes, and the BIg spiders, just be careful to watch out for these critters, any time , and its good that you ask , we sometimes need reminders , because they are everywhere , and we never should let our life get so busy we forget to be prepared, I know I will always be prepared from now on, no matter where I live. I live in Alabama . and I walked out my front door last year and there was a 4 1/2 ft long rattlesnake lying 10 ft. from my steps.we had just killed one bigger than that , a few months earlier, so don't be to alarmed , just teach yourself to be cautious, as we should be any where, not just NM.. Watch , Look and Listen , Ali
I love the location, but the newest Dream Home is sterile. The designers missed golden opportunities to incorporate the warmth of the South West. The windows & doors are too industrial, with the exception of the barn doors…those are spot on!
Only 1 person gets to win and we all would love to be that one. At least I can still send money to help Haiti and know I'll be ok even if I never win the dream home, ( I enter every year).
I wish they would build a home that if theaverage person won, they would be able to afford to keep it. Sure the home is nice, but with the taxes, insurance, and upkeep, the average person cannot afford to kee it. Say build a home worth about $500,000. tops with all the extras, and the winner could live in it!!!
I have to say this house is a dream come true! My passion is building & planning, so all the videos on the construction are amazing & I would have to add what a wonderful job that HGTV did from finding the location, using a local contractor to using the best of the best products in the construction of the home. I was curious if solar and wind powered electricity would be allowed in the area? I looked on the newbie site but I still couldn't find locations to the nearest public facilities that would be needed such as grocery stores, post office, city hall or courthouse. Good luck to those who have entered.
I have been looking and can't find the answer to these questions others have asked. It is probably me. Are there any CCR's and HOA's or easements on this property. It would be nice to see a tax map on this property & possibly an estimated property tax on a house of this size & cost of living for water, sewer, electricity etc. (I know this would be based on usage). I didn't notice is this house on septic or city water sewer? If city water isn't the source, what is the water source? Is there a link to local info like Chamber of Commerce to research local employment & other amenities. Are the fireplaces in the house electric or gas(propane or natural). Good luck everybody.
Thank you for all the information and pictures. Everything about the house is wonderful like something out of a dream but the little Alice in Wonderland house is so precious for a little girl to have tea parties in.
Seeing New Mexico without snow I wondered how it would look and it's just as beautiful but in a different way.
This is too much fun Gail! Everyone loves the DREAM HOME! Just so all the out of staters know; our climate varies from extreme to extreme. One day you will be hot and the next cold! Like they say here, if you don't like the weather in NM; wait 5 minutes. I definately have to have AC; I don't care about the kiva fireplaces like the other bloggers on here; I would just be so thrilled to have the radiant floor heat and the house that I couldn't think of anything to complain about. Wood burning fireplaces are not all they are cracked up to be. They are pretty but no more beautiful than the fireplaces in the DREAM HOME. Woodburning fireplaces are dirty and believe me after living with wood burning as my only source of heat; you'll get tired of building those fires and cleaning up after them. Furthermore, if you or your children have allergies they are an absolute NO…
Living a life w/out the allergies would be amazing!! My husband & I are constantly dealing w/ sinus problems all year here in the Ohio Valley.
Anyway, Today in NM we had snow up north and 50-60 mile and hour winds down south (64 for a high) so you never know….I'm still a dreamin' too. I also have a 5 & 7 yr old that are waiting to move in and play in their new playhouse. We decided the DREAM HOME was really built for us when we saw the playhouse! How Perfect! The taxes are a worry for us who are limited in funds but I think we should all think of it as a house payment and save how ever much we need each month in a special account so we would have the money when they come due. $10,000 year, that's a pretty cheap house payment for a dream home! If you live or have ever lived in Northern NM you know you cannot rent a shack with an outhouse for less than $600 per month. So quit worrying people and start dreamin" Lots of good wishes for all of you!
Hello Mary
Tell me about the Property Taxes on 2010 Dream Home and also other tax Thank you Robert
My husband and I love the Dream Home and the location. We lived in the desert when we were in the Air Force and have visited it many times since. This would be the ideal location for us.
And the home is just perfect!
Oh my gosh! I love this home so much! It is what has called to me, all my life! When going through hard times in my life I used to say I felt like walking out of the house………..heading south and not stopping until I got to New Mexico. Being from North Dakota that was an ambitious thought! My life as improved….I am newly remarried to a great guy! I think a new fresh start in my dream state(and dream home) is just what I need!
This home and the videos have inspired me to actually turn those dreams( I had all those years) into reality!
Thank you for choosing this area and building such a great home that really does inspire dreams to come true!!
I loved every video and EVERY detail of this home……..turquoise is one of my favorite colors and is used so beautifully in the home. The construction is amazing….being from the north there are considerations for the sun I wouldn't have any idea of. I thought all of the building videos were very informative and helpful! The contemporary style is perfect with the landscape! Love it love it!! please pick me……….I would take the best care and love every square inch of this house!
Thanks so much for the video about the tile. I did not realize that the kitchen tiles used aluminum and, did I hear this right? Motor Oil? Anyhow, I love tile and stained glass. My husband used to do residential tile setting in the NYC area and I just loved visiting the tile stores. Everytime I go into a tile shop, I want to cover my entire house in beautiful tile. Once again thanks.
In the 2010 dream home you say that the master suite / bedroom is in its own private wing, but what I see in the video is that you have to walk out in a open area to get to the master bath, then there’s the laundry room that’s in the private wing, I see no doors. I do not get that feeling of privatize you talk about.
Hi to Super Fan … Gail I have a suggestion/ question for all the responses about not being able to afford this dream home. (? property restrictions). My idea is, & I do understand that the giveaway is a radom drawing so the idea is for any one who wins. When you suggested going back to the video tours …I did & very nice! Whow I can see this happening …way for it to pay for itself , "A Southwestern Contempory B & B'. The floor plans lend very well to the idea: master suite in one section, office and entry, butlers pantry, dining & recycling rooms, home theatre (noise factor separate … keeping a peaceful & serene environment. If people worry about that taking away from the concept of sharing with friends and family, then schedule them as guests … when grown kids and grandkids come to visit. I have thought of this idea with other dream homes but this one especially seems to be able to flow that way – spirtually & naturally … with sunrise's, sunset's and exploring the cultures of the local area focusing on some of the local artists, tile work & metal sculpure. … Whow !! it could be a whole new adventure. Just a Thought!!
Hi, Gail, I just heard about the dream house 2 weeks ago and was so happy to see its in the same area where we live. Me and my whole family have just fell in love with this home it fits our needs perfect. We have been entering and telling everyone we know to enter also. We think all the details that went into creating this spectacular home has created such a great space. We will be watching to see who wins Thanks The VIgils
WOW! ANOTHER WINNING SPACE. ALWAYS THINK YOU CANNOT OUT-DO THE PRIOR YEAR BUT
