  1. Actually, I am going to win this dream home. It fits me perfectly, is the answer to the woes I've endured the past eight years, and gets me back into the cultural atmosphere I dearly love. My furniture and I would fit as-if-made-for the home. In kindness, I invite all the rest of you who want this house to come visit me. I enjoy company and will entertain you warmly. Welcome all!

  2. This is a beautiful dream(our favorite dream home thus far) that will become a reality very soon. There are many negative comments about costs and taxes being posted but my dream is still alive and I feel excited and optimistic, and will until my/our dream comes true, whatever it may be.
As for keeping this wonderful home, we will make every effort to do that. As a portrait/realistic artist/art teacher,bi-lingual reading teacher,as well as the fact that we are both woodworkers, we will have many employment and monetary opportunities in beautiful Sandia Park. It feels like home already!
Everyone should remain positive and enjoy the process for now.
Many blessings to all. Good things will come even if they are only the joy of the dream. I know I am having a wonderful time right now. Of course when we win I will be beyond ecstatic. Thanks HGTV for all of your hard work, creativity and generousity in your effort to bring one family great joy.

  3. It's getting close to that time! I'm so excited! Can't wait to see who wins and I hope it's ME! :)

  4. Why must you always build such a large, large home. Even though they are beautiful WHO IN THE AVERAGE INCOME LEVEL CAN AFFORD THEM? MANY MANY OF MY FRIENDS AND AQUAINTANCES HAVE SAID THERE WAS NO WAY WE CAN AFFORD TO PAY ALL THAT IT TAKES FOR THE TAXES,ETC. WHAT IS WRONG WITH BUILDING A SMALLER, MORE AFFORDABLE HOME FOR US? PLEASE, PLEASE GIVE THIS YOUR UTMOST CONSIDERATION.

Doris B Kutz on February 6, 2010 at 2:22 pm
    • Please stop shouting by using capital letters. I like the dream of a large home and I suggest that those who don't shouldn't enter. The winner could sell this and build a "SMALLER, MORE AFFORDABLE HOME" if they wish.

  5. Wow! What more can I say? And a beautiful SUV to go with it! Life could not be much better living that life style! So geared toward family time, love the layout.

  6. After reading the fine print in the rules and regulations, it does seem to be alot of money to win this place. My family is all excited to as well as me. But realistly it will costaround 700,000 to accept this house. of couse you have the 500,000 and could just take out a mortgage for the other 200,000. And even though solar anels will be a help with cost it will still be quite expensive just for normal upkeep. add in 13000 a year in taxes, add a water bill, addutilities and and all other existing bills. You will need to have a good houshold income to get this place. Although you can live in it for a little while enjoy a 6 month vacation, then sell it and you would have a really nice profit to build a great new life. My wife and I are entering every day and hope to win. What will happen if it does happen will remain to be seen. I am stil excited about it either way.

  7. What is all this worry about paying to live in this fabulous house. Oppportunities are everywhere. Start a home based online business. You all should have started an alternative way of earning money long before this. Ideas. Ideas.

Bottom line the person who does win this home, the $500,000.00 cash and the Vehicle will end up with a lot of few more dollars in their bank account when the dust settles than they have right now. Get a good tax accountant to advise you. Sell the house. You can probably build or buy one that you will love for the money you have accrued. Or keep your present home. Invest your money wisely.

    • Amy: this reply should come to your email from IntenseDebate. As long as you are logged in, that's what will happen. HGTV will probably not reply, but other bloggers have great info from studying this house so much. Also, post your questions in the newest blog (by date on the side) because most people don't come back to this one. To answer your questions, horses are not allowed, and it's a sewer system in the development.

  13. This home is so beautiful and so is New Mexico. This would be a dream for me since I have never owned a home and to be in a state that I have driven through is wonderful. I would like to find out how much property that goes with this house. I hope I win so I can invite everyone to come and enjoy with me.

  14. I am extremely excited to see a contest like this! How generous is HGTV!!! I am a single mother and I am barely keeping my head above the water with bills. My daughter's birthday is tomorrow, and I can't even afford to buy her anything. :( Winning this would be such a blessing. Good luck to all who enter, and god bless all of the people who are making this home a reality for a family who I'm sure deserves it!!

  15. After several weeks of careful discussion, my wife and feel that this home could stand for something greater than an individual prize award. In the event that we became the 'caretakers' of this incredible property, we would wish that HGTV's talent and generous contribution fulfill many dreams, for many people, for many years.
We would suggest that this home become a retreat for the incredible athletes and staff of the Special Olympics organization. After working with this incredible group of folks, we have experienced the miracles that become reality on a daily basis. What better way for this property to serve as a true gift than to give happiness to those that have given their all?
We submit that HGTV could donate the GMC vehicle for visiting athletes and staff to the Dream Home; $250,000 of the $500,000 could be directly contributed toward the Special Olympics Program with the balance wisely invested long term for upkeep, taxes, staffing, etc., so that the 'Dream Home 2010' would continue to serve the Special Olympics program for many years.
If YOU are fortunate enough to win this contest, please consider how you may be able to help these incredible athletes in the New Mexico area at http://www.sonm.org, or nationally at http://www.specialolympics.org.
Special Olympics has not endorsed or in any way sponsored this message.
Thank you HGTV for your generosity and the opportunity you provide to so many.

  16. I LOVED last year’s dream home, but this one has grown on me the more I have looked at the pictures. Anyone who wins would be blessed whether they keep it or not. I haven’t been able to find a picture of the playhouse. Anyone have a link to the picture?

    • Look at the back patio 360 tour. The photos below it have the playhouse.

  18. I just love this years Dream Home. I live in CA and didn't enter last year because I wasn't too crazy about the house, but this one is the bomb. My daughter, granddaughter, 2yrs old and myself are looking forward to living there. My daugther is just starting a new career in fashion and is looking forward to opening a boutique in Albuquerque. The house is perfect. We espeically love the play house, for my Nana girl. My daughter has only on concern, the snakes. I told her there are ways to keep them out. I am pleased to hear that the fireplace in the sitting room is gas and wood. There is nothing like the smell of burning wood. We are recycler and were excited when we saw the recycle room and the solar panels. We also love the tankless hot water heaters. Some people don't know how much money they can save by having them. I want to thank you all, including the sponsors, for giving people a chance to own such a beautiful home. This gives the rest of us hope when things seem to be hopeless. I want to wish everyone the best of luck. God bless you all.

  20. I live in Sisseton SD in the middle of no-where and the most encouraging part of my day is wishing that I had a better home to live in. Don't get me wrong, I love the people but I can't afford a decent house for me and my fiancee's kids and our new born due March 22nd. I am always positive but I moved here to support my future wife through college and the economy has made things easy at all. HGTV reminds me of what I really appreciate in a home and what it takes to get what you and your family truly deserves in a home. I could go on and on but I can say thank you HGTV for the great budget ideas and creative inspiration we need today on todays budget. Thanks.

  21. How do I know if I've one "my home" in the contest? I'm expecting a call or an e-mail. As I recall, it will be announced on the HGTV show, but will I get a notice before that? When IS the date, time, etc. of the announcement. Please make that known. If you have already stated that, please repeat that information on this HGTV site — for those of us who would like to know.
    THANKS!
PS — I find that the HGTV shows are very, very well done. The participants are always professional — and they present themselves in that way. Of course, there are a ga-zillion people — behind the scenes also — who are responsible for all to the details. Thank you, HGTV, for your wonderful, professionally presented programs. Kudos to all members of the staff who make the show a joy to watch. David's my favorite!

Dolores Deck on February 20, 2010 at 4:57 pm
    • They normally surprise the winner with balloons and cameras rolling sometime during the week prior the television special show date, which currently set for March 15th at 8pm eastern.

    • Dolores, You probably won't ever know because you're posing as the winner, before the selection process occurs…

      dreamn_again on February 20, 2010 at 5:58 pm
  23. How does HGTV find the winner to let them know they have won? Do they make phone contact first, stake out the winner until they know they are in their house, or what is the process?

JenNM on February 22, 2010 at 6:48 pm
    • They like to surprise the winner. They may or may not a make a related telephone call, depends on the situation. They've shown up at the winner's place of employment, at their house, had friends or family create a situation where they were expected to show up. It varies from year to year.
