  1. On Gail's new fantastic blog, some of the local artists are represented incorporting a magnificant variety of mediums– a real wake up call to the senses. Her photos and descriptions of the artists has answered some of my questions about my neighbors question. There is endless talent and opoortunity In New Mexico.

  2. I can only imagine having my family there, who are now homeles in Haiti. I Dream of it every minute, but I also try not to do so, so much, because it`s extremely emotional. ( I tell myself all the time, this is a dream with a very small chance of living.) But when it is emotionally involved, it is hard to not have hope and dream.

Wendy on January 27, 2010 at 6:06 am
    • On an earlier post I mentioned that I have some best friends in Haiti. Thank G-D they were in the US. when this happened. I hope and pray that your entire family is safe, and that we help to steward Haiti in its regrowth process. Dreaming for this house is so helpful in keeping your mind on a great goal.

  3. Beautiful home but what, no neighbors just scorpions and cyotes ?

vee on January 27, 2010 at 6:46 am
    • If you notice in one of the photos, you'll see another home in the distance. There are neighbors but with the acres in between….. It appears that you are on your own. Are neighbors there 100 percent; or, are they snowbirds? I don't know. Haven't been given the keys, nor have thrown a blockparty to get to know the neighbors. Ask my husband…..it's easy for me to meet and strike up a conversation with anyone. Soon the new homeowner could be answering that question….sure hopes it's not about scorpions and coyotes.

  4. Wow impressive, My wfie and I love it, as we are bothin our 50's, disabled and live in a small trailer; what a change in life it would make for us and i am sure anyone lucky enough to win.

    • Good wishes sent your way, Russell and wife.

  5. Good Morning Everyone!
I have to say that I have been dreaming of this house for about two weeks now but it is getting worse where it feels like I get no sleep at all. I love this house enough that I am dreaming about it 24/7 it feels like. I hope I win but GOOD LUCK to everyone that has entered to win. Is anyone else doing the same things as me with my dreams?

    Rose @)~~ on January 27, 2010 at 2:20 pm
    • Yes, dreaming of this house gets very contagious! Try not to get your hopes up too high though. I was so excited about last year's green home, & was really sad for a while when I didn't win! Of coarse there are always more homes to dream about, which is part of the fun! Good luck!!

chrisha on January 27, 2010 at 2:32 pm
      • Hi Chrisha,
Thanks for the advice and everyone has been telling me that since the beginning especially my husband but I am so excited about it and have got my hopes up really high that it does not matter win or lose I know the house I want is out there.
        Thanks a million,
        Rose

        Rose @)~~ on January 27, 2010 at 2:36 pm
    • Been there, done that. I have a film to edit, yet I keep stopping to check the blogs. The comments to me are as beautiful as the house. Its almost like I feel responsible to stay on the site, and stay updated on all new developments. You should check out the new art site, put up by Mary and Gail.

Janice Vegas on January 27, 2010 at 10:49 pm
      • LOL Thanks for the response. I have been checking out all the new art site and everything that Mary and Gail have been doing. I think they both have been doing an amazing job.

  7. Love it! Love it! Love it! I'm ready to move in. But even if I don't win the Grand Prize, I will be vacationing in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe area in May. And if my dream does comes true, I will be a permanent resident in my HGTV Dream Home.

    Marilyn B. on January 27, 2010 at 2:50 pm
  8. The 2010 Dreamhome is gorgeous! I love everything about it.For me it would be a second chance.I've pretty much lost everything due to the economy.I know I'm not the only one in this position, but it would truly be a dream come true! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

  9. this house is definetly a Dream Home. I grew up out west in So Cal and my family and I would drive from So Cal to PA and go through New Mexico, It was so beautiful. I keep dreaming that you will be stopping at my door with the keys to my new GMC Terrain and my Luxurious Dream Home!!!!

Sherry on January 27, 2010 at 5:45 pm
  10. What an awesome gift to my Husband this house would be! He could finally retire and just relax and live his dream in New Mexico! We are such dreamers when it comes to living in the Southwest. It is such a wonderful home and being able to come home to this home would be a real dream come true. Thank you HGTV for building such a beautiful, inspiring, and truly a one of a kind home and then just giving it away! Only in America! Yaaay!

jtimoldi on January 27, 2010 at 5:45 pm
  11. Should we all send a message to HGTV, that to be a truly dream home, they could pay the federal taxes. that way the winner would be most likely to live the dream in the beautiful HGTV dream home.

Viviana on January 27, 2010 at 5:46 pm
    • It probably wouldn't help. The IRS would not allow HGTV to pay it without taxing the winner on that. The $500,000 is intended to offset much of the federal tax expense.

WyoGirl on January 27, 2010 at 7:52 pm
    • HGTV has tried to alleviate the "T" issue by asking the builder for the option to buy back the property at full listed value… Maybe that's not the dream you're looking for, but it should be sufficient. Wisely invest the money and maybe you can buy back the dream home back at a later date…

      dreamn_again on January 27, 2010 at 10:32 pm
    • I'm sorry if this comes across as offending to you, but I find your request a little rude…it is sounds ungrateful…thanks for the gift, but I want more.

adisneyfamily on January 28, 2010 at 2:10 am
      • I think the comment from dreamn-again sounds like something that would alleviate the 'T" issue.
I wasn' trying to be rude on asking for more, I was just trying to think how to come up with about 40% of 2,000,000 to pay uncle sam. I guess the winner can always consult a Tax attorney for another opinion. I would love to win this beautiful house just like all of you! (I live in michigan and is rarely sunny)

Viviana on January 28, 2010 at 7:15 pm
    • It's been suggested that HGTV should build a Dream Home in a more average price range, perhaps $300,00-500,00 so it's more realistic for the Average Joe to win and keep the house. It's my understanding the none of the previous Dream Home winners reside in the homes they won – nor do they just vacation there. I believe the last Blog Cabin winner from DIY took the cash in lieu of the actual cabin.

knjmom on January 28, 2010 at 6:32 am
      • I have seen this suggestion many times, knjmom, but I don't agree with it. I like the big dreams!

WyoGirl on January 28, 2010 at 3:03 pm
      • The catch to that is the Green Home is smaller and more affordable, but it does not come with the added cash…when some of us figured it out it was something like pay $200k in extra taxes on the DH or $240k in taxes on the GH (not exact figures)…you get more bang for your buck with the DH.

adisneyfamily on January 28, 2010 at 4:23 pm
  12. I have not seen a past HGTV Sweepstakes Home that I did not like!! The 2010 HGTV Sweepstake Home is truly my favorite mainly for the warm climate of NM, and the entire lay out. I love touring the home, and can easily see living well inn this home. I can only imagine that the $500,,000 will probably all go just to maintain the home; because, I genuinely can not imagine the $500,000 as being discretionary monies. For instance, there is no mention of a security system, and surely all that open space needs some fencing for pets!! Nevertheless, I would love to be so blessed as to be the winner and owner of the 2010 HGTV Sweepstake Home. I do pray for such a blessing…….

Laura on January 27, 2010 at 6:04 pm
    • The $500,000 is intended to cover part of the federal income taxes for winning the sweepstakes.

WyoGirl on January 27, 2010 at 7:50 pm
    • Jack normally puts in a security system, but it's not something provided by a major sponsor, so it may not be highlighted. When locals tour start, we'll get more information about such things.

      dreamn_again on January 27, 2010 at 10:35 pm
    • And fencing is not allowed per the HOA

adisneyfamily on January 28, 2010 at 2:08 am
  13. Are there any pictures or videos of the interior of the playhouse? I saw a one second glimpse of it during a tour of the exterior, but we (my kids) would like to see more!!!

  14. What would be the property tax?

Natasha on January 27, 2010 at 7:22 pm
    • From previous posts, here's the basic info on taxes:

Income taxes for receiving the prize (due the following April 15): Roughly 40% of the total prize value, or approximately $800,000, will go to federal and state income taxes, depending on the state where you live. Property taxes each year: Approximately $10,000. HOA dues: There are annual dues of approximately $2400. This covers primarily the maintenance of the grounds (landscaping), private roads, community center/pool, gate/concierge, and snow removal.

  20. I had a wonderful conversation with a lovely woman by the name of Michaeline Williams from the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce. I was on a search of the history of people from the past. She told me an amazing story about her granddad ,a reknown artist who signed his work E.R. Romero. His first name was Esquipula- a folk artist who lived from 1893-1975, and painted the faces of people that lived in the area, When he first showed up on the very first motorcycle in New Mexico he made the very first treck across the entire stae.. People called him a bruja in Spanish, as a motorcyle was never seen, and this whirlwind guy shows up and steps out of the dust devil of wind and dust to paint. His art exists today and can be seen at the Fine Arts Musuem and the Albuquerque Museum of Fine Arts.

    • In the high desert, they still get snow; and it does get cold.

      Heritage_Seeker on January 28, 2010 at 11:09 am
  22. what's the zip code for that place? because it looks like the house is in the middle of no where.

Roddie on January 28, 2010 at 4:03 am
    • I think it just looks like its in the middle of nowhere because other house haven't yet been built up on the surrounding lots. Superfan Gail let us know that she made it from the house to the nearest grocery store in 9 minutes. Lots of bloggers have mentioned that there is lots of stuff nearby, but it is in a secluded spot as well.

knjmom on January 28, 2010 at 6:28 am
    • Roddie, it's 87047. Address: 117 Turquoise Drive, Sandia Park, NM 87047.

      H_S on January 28, 2010 at 7:05 am
  23. Besides loving living in this new home, I would spend alot of time outside drinking in the splendor of the high desert. Our address on Turquoise lane carries with it thousands of years of history and is part of the Turquoise Trail. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am just learning that much of the surroundeing land is protected by the Federal gov. That's good. Not only mystical and magical, but as been posted before has a hiking trail that goes the back way as far as Sante Fe. Arrowheads in the past and other artifacts have been reported found. What would you do if you found something slightly buried under the ground?

Janice Vegas on January 28, 2010 at 4:42 am
  24. The person who wins this home will love the area. I just spent the last 2 years in Sandia Park and just really enjoyed the area. This is a perfect place for a dream to come true.

  27. hi everyone I'm from Mississiippi and would go west. after one of the videos, it mentioned a second launtry and i read somewhere that there was a third bathroom, full or half i don't know. where these located? also , all the banter about taxes, federal, state and local, what about a home based business, and someone to keep a beautiful large house clean or even dusted and a fabulous cook to use all the wonderful applances so you can have guest over, Maybe a Bed and Breakfast You will still have to pay future taxes and food and up keep and utilities, but , if you are suppose to live in the Dream Home, than God will provide a way, when there seems to be no way. i pray you all would be blessed with the house of your dreams.

sunuia on January 28, 2010 at 3:30 pm
    • fyi- it is in a community development with an HOA, so you won't be able to do a bed and breakfast.

Viviana on January 28, 2010 at 7:29 pm
  28. My husband and I have owned and operated our own small business for 17 years. We will bring to New Mexico a host of talent and opportunities. The office will definately be handy as I am the accountant, seamstress, bottle washer, housekeeper, dog feeder, horse breeder, trainer, vet, rider, artist, decorator (thank goodness that's been handled, exquisitley I might add!) chef, waitress, butler, gardener, volunteer, babysitter, right-hand, left-hand, off-hand, driver, navigator, advising, best friend, and sweetheart my husband has. My husband is a journeyman mechanic, welder, carpenter, plumber, hunter, fisher of men and fish, draftsman, earthmover, gardener, painter, search and rescue certified groundpounder, and his horse is a deputy sheriff, and his kitty, Budget, is his weakness, Shhh! I had no idea he liked cats! What an awesome life!

Laura Davis on January 28, 2010 at 4:17 pm
  29. With all of our skills and talent, I am sure we can create a couple or ten or so jobs. Notice I didn't say create? My latest favorite saying is: Each day the work begins, the hope rises, and the dream lives on! I sure do live this life!

Laura Davis on January 28, 2010 at 4:22 pm
  30. I love logging on everyday dreaming and praying for this home. This home would be a wonderful new start for me and my family. My husband is a disabled veteran, who is a great father and husband, but struggles a lot. I was working and fell down a flight of stairs injuring my back so badly that now I am in a wheelchair. (The medical bills have been un-real!) Where we are living is small and my wheelchair has a hard time getting through the doors. It would be amazing to have open space to feel safe in.
Also, I have three daughters. One that is married that has a beautiful daughter who would love the play house. The other two are struggling college students, who are paying for there own way through school because we cannot afford to help them. (They live with my sister-in-law insted of the dorm.) My 82yr old mom has been great to me by cooking or driving me to doctors appts. (She acts and looks young for her age.) She would stay in the casita when she visited. I would hope she would chose to stay with us always.

Karen on January 28, 2010 at 6:51 pm
  31. Thanks hgtv for the wonderful job on this dream home. I also have my bag packed to move in. Always wanted to go to New Mexico when I was in the Army never got a chance. Well look out here I come.

Mary Mckoy on January 28, 2010 at 8:28 pm
  32. I wrote a comment about being retired and affording to live in N.M yes we are retired, and have a nest egg, but whoever wrote me back told me to forget it, and only could we afford it, if we shopped at the thrift stores and ate beans out of cans in the pantry. i don't know who is answering these comments, but i think that was terribly rude. i still can't seem to find out if taxes are taken out of $800,000 at 40% or not, which we all need to know in case we win. how can i find out how close the medical facilities are? i'm in good health, but would like to know. thank you and i really love the house, and would live fla in a heartbeat, and not look back.

vivian on January 28, 2010 at 9:37 pm
    • vivian, anybody on the blog can choose to write you back, and I agree that the answer you got back was rude. Basically, you will be taxed by the IRS as income on everything you win, so approximately $800,000 in taxes. If you keep the home, you would need to come up with about $300,000 to cover that, after you use the $500,000 cash that comes with the home. Many have discussed getting a mortgage on that $300,000 to cover, so it is doable. Others have discussed taking the cash instead (the builder has announced that he will buy back the home for $1.5 million), paying the income taxes on that, and then building your own customized dream home. I hope this is a more helpful answer to your question.

WyoGirl on January 29, 2010 at 2:39 pm
    • You didn't mention having a nest egg,( no one here can read your mind), just a relatively small monthly income you'd live on, compared to other folks living in million dollar homes. There used to be a financial planner's rule of thumb for how much house one can afford based on their annual income, you can look into. If you win you should definitely consult professional advice.

The biggest bill on the win is federal income tax on the whole $2,000,000 prize value that will be due in April of 2011. The cash part of the prize may have IRS withholding taken out of it even before the winner receives it., but no one knows exactly how that will play out until it happens. The information was leaked by the developer that they supposedly were asked to sign an agreement to buy back the property at 1.5 million if HGTV requested it, in order to offer a cash option in lieu of the dream home. That's a much more practical way to go about things.

      dreamn_again on January 29, 2010 at 12:49 pm
      • Wow, that's great information to know! After reading all of the information on the post, we've decided we would sell it, but it would be fun to spend a month or so there checking out the area first. Do you know if the developer is buying the house and all the furniture/decorations for $1.5M or just the building – I'm guessing everything, but thought I'd ask. I suppose it will make a nice show home.

Wonder if they'd let us stay there a month to check out the area?

Tina on January 30, 2010 at 1:57 am
  33. Every single day I live and I breathe HGTV, and now they have this dream house that I really wish to be my reality. I have entered the sweepstakes eeeeveryyyy single day, hoping to maximize my chances but there is thousands out there that are doing the same and I wish everyone of them GOOD LUCK!.

  34. Solar Panels?
During the dream home building time laps video it looks like there are solar panels are on the roof. My question is: Are they Solar panels? Where are the batteries and converter equipment? Are there any photos of this equipment? It also looks like the panels move as the sun moves across the sky each day in the time lapse video. How much power are they producing? Does the home have to be supplemented with more electrical power or is there some to spare? WOW! If there is more to spare.

deckaac on January 29, 2010 at 5:02 am
    • There are solar panels, and the answers to most of your technical questions can be found on the blog about HGTVpro. Have fun exploring!

  35. I know the house is 3900 sq. ft. and built on 3 acres, but does anyone know the total dimensions of the home? For Example 100' X 200'

    Thanks

rubybaby on January 29, 2010 at 7:08 am
    • Try comparing the dream home floor plans with something you can track down like the window or garage door sizes for a quick estimate..

      dreamn_again on January 29, 2010 at 9:38 pm
  36. This is a wonderful dream home and would be a dream come true to win. I was however puzzled at first by not seeing a power or laundry room in the common areas. However reviewing all of the pictures for each room, I found that there is a bathroom with a shower located down the hallway by the front door next to the office. Also there is a smaller room near the guest and kids room that contain another washer and dryer. At first I was trying to figure out how people could use the washer without going through the master bed room.

Love it! on January 29, 2010 at 1:29 pm
    • Yup they put all the necessities and a lot more into the dream home, even if they don't highlight it all for us.

  37. Thank you Mary for the all in one video area. I absolutely love this house! I enter everyday, and spend my spare time looking at the video's of this amazing home, and virtually living there. I feel as if I am already living there. It feels like home to me :)

  41. . when I see these people fixing up other people homes on tv it makes me sick. they should build three dreams homes one for upper class, middle class if there any left and ,for the lower class. they doing to much for the people who have money to play with. what wrong with the everyday people

bob on January 30, 2010 at 12:27 am
    • I think on the same line as you Bob, for the price of this "DREAM HOME' they could build at least 3 homes all lower in price, size and in a less expensive area. If they took a poll, I would probably bet that the majority of people would even rather have a less expensive home. That way, they could actually live there. HGTV could then have a reunion show that would draw the viewers to see what they have done with the home and how their lives have been changed.

I just think they need us to help lol

My 16 yr old son is an awesome golfer ( sophmore and #1 on the golf team ) He really wants to move there. Right now at our home, its 25 degrees, ice and snow everywhere. This would be life changing. 46. What will be the HOA monthly fees? Annual Property Taxes? And the federal income taxes on, when winning this prize package? Also, if a couple lives only Social Security Benefits only; do they have to pay state income
taxes in NM? This are very important questions; that need to be considered, upon winning this fabulous home.
    Please advise. Thanks.

    • Wait till you've been contacted as the winner to worry about those things, even then you'll have time to consider and resolve the issues. The awarding process has taken months to complete in the past dream home sweepstakes.

  48. WOW!!!!!!!! i always see people on TV who win things or get their house built for free and you think to yourself; geez!!, why them and not me???… I'm thankful for all I have. Even if I lived in a shack! I'm thankful because what's really sad is the disaster in Haiti; thats horrible!!! My house is probably the size of one bedroom in this house (LOL); i'd probably get lost in such a home but I sure wouldn't complain. This house is soo much more than we could ever dream of but I'd take it and relocate our family in a heartbeat!!! It feels good to dream… Give thanks! Goodluck everyone!!

  49. Like thousands, no MILLIONS, of others, I'm dreaming about winning the HGTV Dream Home. Once again, they've out done themselves in creating a home that personifies "Dream Home." Bravo; it's so beautiful.

Good luck to all who enter and I hope whomever wins really enjoys and appreciates this home.

With my husband and I about to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary in May, and a baby on the way, winning this dream home would be… well words couldn't describe the happiness I would feel. A home like this is a legacy to be protected and enjoyed by present generations as well as future generations.

  50. I've long said that if I could live anywhere in the U.S. besides rural Indiana, it would be in the desert Southwest. The Dream Home looks like the perfect residence in the perfect setting. Such a peaceful, comfortable life destination. And having a casita so friends can visit and share makes the home beyond perfection. Dream Home is an apt title for this creation. I've long watched HGTV's Dream Home shows, and I feel this one will be a spiritual blessing for whoever is lucky enough to receive it. Peace everyone!
