What’s Your Dream?

My dream home, Valley Forge, PA

Being an editor on the HGTV Dream Home project has given me a completely different perspective on dreams. Your dream home … your dream job … your dream car … your dream life … your dream mate. I have to admit that these thoughts pass through my mind more often than they did before. And I enjoy asking folks about their dreams: It’s a great ice breaker and offers insight that you might not get when chatting about the weather or someone’s health. People are often caught off guard when I ask, but then seem pleased as punch to respond. And I love the responses – as varied, unusual and inspiring as you might imagine. So if I might be so bold: What are your dreams, aside from winning this spectacular home?

  2. Hello everyone, well, I have had many dreams in life, but the most persistent of them was to have a beautiful home where my children will see stars at night. I live on the east coast – and stars are scarce in these crowded, metropolitan areas. I believe that stars give children – and grownups – the power to dream new dreams, and to renew old, forgotten ones. With this HGTV dream house, you get sunsets and rainbows too! I haven't seen a rainbow only once or twice since I was 18 years old. I'd like to rotate sitting in the casita, and the master bedroom suite, writing children's and grownup stories about life and overcoming hardships. I'd like to have a house full of relatives, kids, and friends. And I'd like to make use of my new home to give thanks to God by giving back hope to my neighborhood, community, and church. Whoever gets to win this dream house now gets their turn at the Almighty making a dream come true. I hope that I win, but no matter whether I win or not, I know He'll still be working on my dream, and you can believe He'll still be working on yours too!

  3. I'm in a dual enrollment program at my school for allied health science, and my dream is to become a surgeon. My dream if I was to win the house I'm going to give money to my aunt Brenda and Uncle Mark who are in debt from adopting from china, and their mortgage. I'm going to pay for my college, and my husband to be medical school loans, and I'm going to finish paying off my mother's loans. Hopefully there is a really awesome hospital nearby. I love the house its beyond beautiful, and we can really use it because we would definitely have a lot of friends over and family staying over. There will be 2 moms in the house each who know how to cook, we will make use of the island, tell Gail :D . My mother and my fiance's mother, now one of them is actually licensed as a chef… but they both are amazing cooks. Most of all I wish to escape from the high stress life I live here with my mother in a home that isn't ours. My father will not put our name on the house, he's having an affair, and he's not making the divorce any easier on her and I by not signing the divorce papers. We have no place to live because our payments right now are too high and rent is through the roof!

  4. If I were to win this home, I would make it into a B & B so that others would be able to enjoy it as much as my husband and I would. My husband is 2 years from retirement and this would be a wonderful way to enjoy the the home, the people and the area. And that is my dream.

    • The homeowner's association would probably not allow the dream home to become a B & B.

  5. I dreamed I won this years beautiful home. But, I dream I won every year. Daydreaming is a wonderful way to relax. It temporarily relieves lifes daily stress. When I smell bread baking in my daydream I know it's time to get real. So, I will go make some bagels. But first I will take another visual tour of the dream home. Thanks.

  8. Just one more comment. It is interesting to me that I have identified with this home more than any of the previous homes. It’s like the location is calling me as well as the home. I feel like no matter what happens I will end up in New Mexico. It’s a weird sensation. Anyway, God Bless and good luck to everyone. Thanks.

  9. Wow, I LOVE THIS HOUSE!!!!! …… I know that everybody says that ……. hehe…… I think it would be a great place to live with my family. We have fallen on some hard times lately (a death, some surgeries etc.) and this dream home would truly be a blessing. And I agree C&E, everyone here does seem extremely nice! :)

  14. H_S, I am so happy for you. I noticed Mary's Jan 28, 2010 post when I responded to your comment. Too cool. Glad you guys are entering daily. Hope both of you begin blogging on a regular basis. The HGTV blog is better than eharmony! You two prove that.
