Public Tours: Get Your Tickets!

Good afternoon, bloggers.

Whew! I love all the activity on our blog. It’s taking me longer and longer to read through the comments, but your passion for this year’s home makes every moment a joy. Thank you for the compliments on my small size. But be aware that closet and hallway doors are super tall. I am a 5’9″ Super Fan!

Here are some answers to recent questions:

Melodie333, the mirrors in the master bath are not medicine cabinets, but the cabinets offer plenty of storage room. There are three bathrooms in the main house (a master bath, a Jack-and-Jill bathroom that connects the guest and kid’s bedrooms, and a powder room adjacent to the home office – more to come on this space).

CLEN, the casita does have a closet in addition to the dresser for storage of clothing, etc.

Joseph L., I love the barn doors and the hardware as well. (They look even better in person, if you can believe that!) You might find something similar by visiting barndoorhardware.com.

Brenda2015, of course I read your post! There is a closet with shelving and a hanging bar in the entry hall (we posted a picture of it in my last blog entry). Each bedroom features a closet to store clothes and linens.

Helen, HGTV Dream Home 2010 features natural gas fireplaces in the master suite and back patio that cannot be converted to wood. House planner Jack Thomasson assures me, though, that the fireplace in the entry hall can burn word.

And what you’ve all been waiting for: info on public tours is now available. Read on …

Your Super Fan,
Gail

  2. looking at some of the pictures, it would have been cool to add some wall waterfalls in this house. especially on that wall before entering the theater room. somehow have the water coming down the wall and and falling over the fire place. hard to explain but i still am not complaining. I think my favorite part of the house is the open kitchen and great room. I know there is a theater room but i would probably add another TV in the great room to watch while cooking. So many awesome ideas to still add to this home!!

Jamie on February 18, 2010 at 12:04 am
  6. I really wanted to see the dream home, but like most of us it's just to far to travel , and times are hard. My wifes birthday is March 14, I feel she should win the house of her dreams as we are retired and on a fixed income. There is in no way we could aford such a home.

Thank you HGTV for the chance to win such a DREAM HOME, God bless you all.

Marvin L. Tamblyn on February 18, 2010 at 2:02 am
    • Wow That is My name too, Small world. You're not a Sr. are you? No my Paps would only be 54 so I don't think he'd be retired. But who knows I haven't seen or heard from him in years. Good luck on the house. Hope you and your wife win . Just on the fact that we have the same name. :)

  7. I'm a retired VetNam Vet with sjogrens sys., fibermyalgia, and Lupus. This dream home would really be something to dream about, but with HGTV letting me enter once a day really makes a DREAM come true. I know that it's a long shot, but who knows I may just win. I'll tell you all this, if I win you are all invited to OPEN house. After 5 backs operations, I don't have much left in life but to DREAM.

Thank you HGTV for such a chance.

    • One thing I forgot to say is that I can't make it to the open house, as it's to far away.

Thanks again HGTV for all the chances to enter to win your DREAM HOUSE 2010.

  8. This is a beautiful work of artistic magic. I am a writer, potographer, and nature lover. My dogs would be in Heaven. My husband could enjoy peace and serenity in his final yrs. here. My children and grand-children would love this home. This area has such a rich ,colorful majestic heritage. I have not had a real place to call home. I pray this is it, and believe it is. This environment would be so condusive to helping to release my God give creative gifts and abilities. I would love to become a vital member of this community. God Bless you all, and Best Wishes to all of you. t

  12. Hello GAIL!
What a journey, I have looked at this home so much I could walk around blind folded. You and your crew have created a HOME not a house. I'm so amazed of the thought, care, expertise and details that have gone into this HOME. Truly experts at what you all do from concept to creation to completion.
    Take a bow!
    Blessings

  15. I have one quick question, for the Master suite is there an actual door because all I can see is curtains and then the fireplace is see-through.

    Taryn945 on February 19, 2010 at 8:20 pm
    • there are double doors to the master suite.

      dreamn_again on February 19, 2010 at 8:41 pm
      • dreamn again, you are one of my favorite bloggers. I don't know why I always go back to these old posts, but you apparently do as well. You are factual and straight-to-the-point, and I love your answers! Just wanted you to know that your replys always make my day because they are based in reality with humor!

  16. Like a lot of people I have read comments from, I could really use this home. There are many people who have suffered way worse than me. So I am not going to post my saga.

What I am going to say is this a wonderful home and the winner is truely blessed. The issue of taxes is a important one. I don't think I could afford this home. If my estimates are correct, yes the winner will owe the goverment much more than the $500,000 they recieve. So how would anyone make this work ? If I was lucky enough to win, and lucky enough to find a job in the IT field in the area, and I sold the art work, the GMC Terrain, rented out the casita and did some kind of reverse mortgage, maybe, just maybe … It sure would be worth a try !!!

I was wondering though, in the future, could HGTV try to build something a little expensive and maybe give enough cash to cover 1 year. If you could pay all the "gift taxes, association fees, property taxes etc …" then I think many more people could acualy afforrd to live the dream. Just athought …..

  20. Where is the utility room and the product info was a little confusing…what is the set and what type of appliances are included?

Yungkate on February 20, 2010 at 7:34 pm
    • The utility room is accessed from its own door outside. bissel vacuum, wolf cooktop, stove, microwave and warming drawers. subzero refrigeration and freezers. Asko washers and driers. Some other small appliance things might be stored away if they decided not to pull them out for photos.

  21. Good afternoon!
fingers are crossed! just would like to thank you and the sponsors, the designers and builders of this amazing home, KUDOS KUDOS KUDOS! to HGTV for giving people the opportunity for this amazing life changing sweepstakes, prayers are on high, as I too have entered the sweepstakes, and I too am hopeful for a better tomorrow, I too can go on about what I would do and wouldn't do, I believe thats almost the best part about the sweepstakes, it isn't the wealth that we all live for, if you have enough love in your heart and just believe in yourself, anyone can have the blessing of making those dreams come true, as I have been through many hardships, tough times and shedding tears, its my family that makes my life worth while, its the home that we live in and its the memories that we all make that makes me a rich 23 YR. old young man, I wouldn't change them for the world, one thing is for sure, for those who win and don't win, keep trying, have perseverance, and have a lot of faith, that with one good deed, we can all have a better tomorrow, and maybe one day we can all have our own dream home, Thank you HGTV for showing me the bigger picture, whether I win, or whether I don't win..

One of us works for General Mills, and can transfer to Albuquerque, and I have a job interview next week in Santa Fe and will certainly tour the house when there. It's all so serendipitous. Thank you, HGTV!

The home is stunning in every regard ! I do have a question on the pantry….. on the chill drawers I believe is what they were called I have not heard of this ? who makes them ? Also, it looks like the recycle room may have another refrigerator ? The only other thing I can say about it is perfection and WOW!

    Thank you

    Trish Jeske-Starr on February 22, 2010 at 8:34 am
