Can You Haiku?
Photo by Outdoor Exposure by Denise
Good morning, bloggers.
Thank you, Heritage Seeker, for inventing and posting the haiku contest. I am so impressed by this talented blogging group. The winning entry, submitted by show me the green, is posted below:
rising sun’s pure light
mountain vistas dawn to dusk
whispered dreams now true
All entries were fabulous and worth a read. I will make sure the winner of HGTV Dream Home 2010 receives a copy of our haiku collection when he or she is handed the keys to the house. My fingers are crossed that one of our very own blogging friends wins this year. Wouldn’t that be fun?
haiku has inspired
dazzled by blogger talent
proud to represent
Your Super Fan,
Gail

WOW! Just how many talents does our Super Fan possess? Now we find out she can compose haiku! Love that photograph, too — maybe there is a way to superimpose the winning haiku onto that photo to present to the Dream Home winner! Thanks, H_S, for the whole haiku experience, thanks show_me_the_green for the fabulous haiku, and thanks Gail for expanding upon this theme!
Oh my GOD, beautiful, beautiful, pure and beautiful like something you would see in a dream.
OMG it's beautiful!!! peaceful!!!
I wanted to say the same thing. That photo is inspiring and getting me to daydream more about moving to that part of the country. We shall know soon enough who gets to live that dream. Can't wait. I am on pins and needles.
God is the artist! Have never seen a sight that beautiful!
Our GOD is the ultimate designer. What a beautiful scene! I could sit and watch this all day long.
I couldn't agree with you more!! God is the ultimate creator of such beauty!
Hi Gail, thanks for the haiku. Please, please, please add that photo to the haiku when it's presented to the winner. What an awesome treasure it will be. Again, thanks to H_S, Dean, Show Me, and others who proposed and entered this fabulous contest!
Show Me, what a wonderful creation you've gited to the winner of the Dream Home!
Hi Lessie, where are the entrants blogs posted at, for the Haiku? How's MD, did you get a lot of snow? I know VA did, NY and CT didn't get anything. "We love that!"
Terri1, go to the blog titled “Drape it Like Woodrum.” On the last or next to last page, look for Heritage_Seeker. All the haikus are listed there.
As for MD, it just started snowing here, so we’re good. Please know that NY, CT, and the New England states will not escape this storm. Tag, you’re next! Hope you’ve made your trip to the grocery store.
We're getting the snow in Orange County, New York …
….and thanks to LeeG1 — the first to "plant a seed."
Thanks H_S, I was beginning to feel left out. That's what us gardeners
do, plant seeds.
(not actually a gardener…)
Lee, I sincerely hope that you don’t feel as though I left you out. I will never forget!
By the way, thanks for reminding me. I need to germinate my hot pepper seeds – the seedlings go in the garden in early April!
Best regards, Heritage_Seeker.
Now I remember. LeeG1, thanks for planting the seed for the Haiku contest. It produced great fruit.
300 days of sunshine is a New Yorker's dream…especially now!!! …Just to see one day of that setting would put a permanet smile on my face…wow…thats unreal
I_Had_A_Dream, after seeing one of those sunsets, you’ll probably definitely want to see more, especially while feasting on Lindor Truffles.
Lessie, would you please do a favor for me, and re-read this entire thread? You have forgotten THE "sower of seeds." I did my best; but, alas, I feel somewhat responsible for this omission, somehow, someway.
Sincerely, H_S.
H_S, please don’t take any responsibility for my error. I knew there was a third person although I couldn’t think of who it was (sorry LeeG1), but was too lazy to go back, read the info, and include the right person (again, sorry LeeG1). My error was my error based on laziness. Example: when I said Katydid or C&E when you asked me where to find the info about Coop. Then when I researched, discovered it was Donna from Chicago. That’s laziness, which is my fault not yours.
Thanks guys, no big deal. H_S did all the heavy lifting.
BTW, congrats Coo… I mean Show Me.
H_S is an honorable guy. He gives credit to everyone, therefore we should too. We’re a team. When we function as a team, the results are super. If anyone needs proof, read all the haikus.
I have to say that the sunset photo is magical and spectacular, but I'm not sure that it was taken from the Dream Home. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I see the wild horse but the mesa in the background looks more like Arizona. Call me crazy. It's still one of the most beautiful sunset photos that I've even seen
Carole, the photo is nice but you're right, it wasn't taken from the Dream Home. But as you've said, it is one of the most beautiful sunset photos I've seen.
I missed the contest too. This picture would be a wonderful addition to house. Have you tried to get an aerial view of the home site? There are spectaular views of the area when you use Google Earth or Bing. By the way, we're looking at a lot of snow in Chicago today. What a stark contrast.
That's The Land of Enchantment! It doesn't hurt to have the beautiful paint in the middle of all that beauty.
A triple play from Super Fan GAIL with this new Haiku blog thread. Quite an unexpected surprise.
First, the visual impact of the photo chosen—it's simply stunning. These striking colors of nature are rich, intense, and spiritually moving—a second of time captured forever as a still life, yet so filled with power and majestic beauty. Thank you, GAIL, for such an inspiring start to this day.
Of course, all our thanks also go to Heritage_Seeker for pulling together this impressive collection of Haiku by so many talented HGTV Dream Home bloggers. We have all appreciated and benefited from your efforts.
Last but not least of all, kudos to Show Me The Green for his winning Haiku. I'm sure he will put in a few words of acknowledgement and sincere thanks of his own.
Adding my "ditto" to Coop's remarks….such a great bunch of people!!! ANd I think the idea of the poem and the photo together is perfect!
What a stunning picture! It just takes my breath away! The rainbow, the horses, and such a colorful sky! Thank you for posting it.
gorgous photo the colors and the paint horse perfect portrait of new mexico
Heaven's fire!!! The mountains in the background are incredibly glowing… The fire cloud on the low center looks like a left hand clinched with the finger pointing at the pillar of fire…
Amazing!!!
I didn't hear anything about the contest. Too bad I missed it =( Congrads to show me the green!
Haiku collection go's to the winner!!!
=)
Oops… =)
We forgot to log in…
Have a wonderful day everyone!!!
Apicture perfect. painted only
god's hand. please hang it in this fantastic home. I am a nature lover, feed birds, watch deer, i know there must be bear close .Good luck to all.
I agree this should be displayed in the home…it is a piece of art that captures the magic of that area.
My world here in Maryland at this moment is like being "in a shaken snow globe"! I would love that house and my daughter and my young granddaughters would only be 10 min. away!! I will keep on dreaming!!
this is for you
here i am in a shaken snowglobe
only with glee a'dreamin to be
Really picturesque!!very beautiful!!!
This is ShowmeJane***First, I would like to say-I love the Haiku!
The colors are gorgeous!
It’s another snow day here in Missouri-The ShowMeState. But It’s time to move to a warmer state. I cannot wait till the day I can wear only t-shirts.And watch beyond the horizon upon endless nights to come…
Valentine’s Day is coming==To all you sweethearts and hopeful romantics.Be patient and good things will come to you.
Wanting this home is the most selfish thing I have done. To be so blessed. To enjoy and respect this space. What a dream that could come true ……
Withlovetoyou, trust me, you're not the only selfish blogger out there…Many of us feel the same way. Just be prepared to congratulate the winner, especially if it's YOU!
I know what you mean! I have never wanted something so much in my life. This house and the life is everything I have ever wanted…. It would definately be a dream come true!!!! Best of luck to everyone!
Ashlee, what can I say? What’s the old saying, “If you love something, let it go. If it comes back, then it’s yours.” Do you actually believe the winner will give up this magnificent home to someone else? I don’t think so! Enjoy it now since we may have to part company with it later. But don’t be too disappointed, there’s always the 2010 Green Home and the 2010 Blog Cabin. Haven’t checked the diynetwork.com site to get an update on the blog cabin. Hope I haven’t missed all the voting.
The voting for the Blog Cabin is supposed to start Feb. 15th, Lessie, so get yourself geared up!
Thanks C&E, glad I haven't missed the voting because I want my vote counted!!!
I've obviously missed something. Blog Cabin?
Yes, Sewing Bell. Check out diynetwork.com, it's HGTV's sister. Bloggers can vote for some things that will be in the cabin. You'll love it. C&E told me voting for items in the cabin begins Feb 15th. Don't miss it because the bloggers there are just as great!
i'm lost!? blog cabin? whats that??
This year's Blog cabin is a total remodel on about 5 acres in the Woodstock area of New York! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
And no HOA's or developers to mess with. (Although the HOA issue doesn't really bother me if it takes care of things I don't care to mess with…like cleaning swimming pools…)
Anyway, Bloggers get to vote on some of the fixtures and such. Then register to win it. Woo hoo!!!
Starr112, check this out, you’ll love the Blog Cabin: http://www.diynetwork.com/blog-cabin/index.html
Oh, Lessie!
I didn't know about the DIY's blog cabin either, but since you made the info so accessible I just might come on over. In short (no pun intended), if you see me on that blogosphere too ~ No, I am not stalking you!
ha ha ha ~ hope that makes you smile!!!
No, you won't be stalking me, you'll just be following the crowd! You meet lots of other HGTV bloggers. They're all great. However don't be surprised if you find that you prefer one site over the other. Since they all offer something different, I like to meet new bloggers and see the newest features in the building industry.
Hey Lessie,
You are right (as usual ~ te he he). I don't think I am going to dive into the DIY Blogs. Not as inviting as HGTV's. Simultaneously, I have only taken a small look and maybe I should really investigate first.
What an amazing picture! I would love to have this picture hanging over my bed.
Good Idea! Me too.
I'm thinking it would look gorgeous above the fireplace in the master suite in the meditation side or in place of the TV (I don't like TVs in the bedroom personally)! It's a truly gorgeous photo! I had always wanted to learn to horse back ride and never have – once I win the house, it will definitely be part of my "to do" list!
Thank you Gail and all the Haiku poets, but especially to our creative H_S for proposing the competition.
Now I have to say……Yea Saints!!! But sympathies for the Colts, especially for my man Peyton, who threw that interception. How are you all feeling this morning?
Gail, Oh My God; when I first saw that photograph at the top of this page, it literally took my breath away! I was absolutely mesmerized! Once I started breathing again, I immediately went to Denise’s site. She has some outstanding photography displayed there, and it is all so very apropos to this year’s Dream Home. Everyone who comes to this page needs to visit Denise’s site using the link provided by Mary.
This topic seems to bring numerous threads together; including Dreams, Art, Poetry, and the Southwest. The “Fire Red” sky in this featured work even makes me Dream of the Entry Hall fireplace!
Gail and Mary, thank you!
Best regards, Heritage_Seeker.
H_S: I don't know how I missed the Haiku contest, but I did. Can you provide me with a link or at least the thread it was on? I've already composed one haiku for the absolutely breathtaking photo, but I might get inspired again as I go back, and back, and back to look at it. Denise has a true, unique talent.
I think it's in the Drape it like Woodrum thread.
Most of the blog posts were on, "AllAbout the Artwork." I would suggest that you DO NOT click "Last Activity," and just read through the posts.
The "Ballot" fo voting was on, "Drape it Like Woodrum." To find them easily, DO click "Last Activity."
Regards, H_S.
Hey Katydid,
Please, please, please post your Haiku on this blog for us anyway. I am sure we would all love to share in your creative and artistic abilities.
Thanks!
H_S I told you Mary or Gail would contact you. The contest was inspired and I didn"t think they could resist it. You're a very talented person and you inspired many bloggers to write their own Haiku. Can't wait to read your next idea. Congratulation to you and to Show Me, I always knew he was brilliant.
This is so beautiful!! Thank you for sharing!!
Gail, this awesome!! its is so i could just stare at it all day. i have 1 ?. Inside the master bedroom closet thier are some clothes and their is 1 pair of boots. Are all those things just for show or do u really get to keep them and what size are they? They could be 2 big or 2 small. Thanx!!
(…Oh.. and p.s. I love this house!…)
The photo is incredible, is it real?? I agree, it would be awesome to have this photo matted and donated as "part" of the house. The entire "feel" of the house is amazing – this would be another added "ahhhh" to this incredible dream package : )
I, too, missed out on the haiku contest. Was it posted amidst the blogging entries? This is the first time I've ever even participated in any blogging and I can see how bloggers can get addicted to it! Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), I have limited time though, even to sign on and submit my daily entry (though I do it faithfully every day! – woohoo – it's getting exciting now!) I can just imagine relaxing outside the casita, taking in a spectacular sky, while my husband grills dinner and the kids do their laundry in their own laundry room! What a life!!
Sorry that you missed the contest, Rhonda. Heritage Seeker did a great job of posting many times in many different blogs — first he asked for submissions, and then he posted all of them so we could all vote. He even asked for input about timelines, so there was wonderful involvement. It was fun, and I thank HS for all of his hard work!
Thanks for filling me in. This has been a great experience – including the introduction to blogging about a passionate and common topic. When the contest ends, I will feel a little lost now that I am getting the hang of it. Hopefully the blog will remain posted for a while so that those of us with limited time can get the full experience. Good luck to you –
Hey Rhonda,
I'm also sorry that you missed the contest. It was not put forth by HGTV, more of an impromptu contest by returning bloggers. It was seriously nice of Gail to call attention to it and to Heritage_Seeker. It must have been a lot of time and work.
Someone mentioned it earlier, but also think it would be nice if the photo was matted and donated to the Haiku winner. If not the Haiku winner then Heritage_Seeker, since he put so much work into it.
Heritage Seeker would love it…for sure…what a wonderful idea. Maybe a copy for both?
Hi Susan!
Love your idea and if it were up to me I would follow it to a T, but I don't want to put any more pressure on HGTV and/or Scripps. {te he he ~ I am pretty sure that there is a group of them saying, Oh my goodness – what a lively bunch! ~ te he he}
Gotcha…too much pressure and they are liable to throw our names back in the bin if we are picked!!!! ;^)
I wasn't involved last year, would you say we are livelier than previous bloggies?
Very beautiful haiku, very beautiful photo, all for a very beautiful home!
I agree with you Monica! This is one special Dream Home indeed!!! As for the photo, words cannot capture its power, beauty, or majesty.
From the first time I saw this Dream Home, it has been spiritual to me. Didn't think I could live there initially but now I think I can. The winner will never be the same once they step inside this home!
I agree Monica! I think that who ever wins is going to be the luckiest of all the HGTV Dream Home winners.
If this stunning picture is surroundings of DH, it intensifies our desire to win and boosts our fantasy.
Good chance to tell that I love DH flooring, motor court, recycling room and all the rest.
Thank you for the breathless photo and thoughtful haiku. I was fortunate to have been a past participant in the Rio Grande Arts Festival (adjacent to the balloon festival) and this photo says it all for the Albuquerque/Sandia Park area. The skys were brilliant orange/red, we had thunder and a few drops of rain. The locals were so friendly and apologetic about the weather. But coming from So.Cal. (the land of boring smog, cement and no weather), we savored every drop of rain, every crack of thunder and every spectacular sunset….without a doubt, the land of enchantment….
Andie, glad to read your comment. Would love to experience the Rio Grande Arts Festival. I always thought So. CA was beautiful, but you prefer the land of Enchantment. How awesome! To tell the truth, I haven't been in a place I haven't liked because this country is beautiful!!!
Lynn Coggin, heard that Philly is getting another 2 ft of snow on Tues and Wed. Does that include your area also? The initial weather forecast for my area was 1-3 inches of snow. Well that has been revised. They are now saying 12+ inches of snow. Can't help but laugh! Most of the people are still snowed in and can't get out. I-95 is much better, but the ramps aren't cleared. I'm expecting an increase in the population around November.
The Dream Home has 300 days of sunshine! We have sunshine now even though it's 25 degrees. It's beautiful. But sure would like to win the 2010 Dream Home just like all the rest of the snow bound. So the fairest thing is to look to my left and to my right, acknowledge the needs of all the people entering the sweepstakes, and then STEP INTO THE WINNER'S CIRCLE! There's no shame in my game!!! Note: All complaints will be sent directly to File 13.
It looks like it is about 3 inches on the ground right now that is sticking and the amount of water that is still standing is just adding to all the water we already have plus some of it is ice. Very pretty outside but we are already wet enough.
Yet again a renewal of the season.
Where are you Rose@? When this is all over, we'll have great memories. Right now, I'm capturing as many visual and mental images as possible because hopefully this happens every 80 years. If so, I won't be around to see the next winter wonderland that comes this way.
Lessie – Oh, yes, we are supposed to get another 2-4 inches on Tuesday evening with an additional 5-10 inches on Wednesday. There are snow mounds all over the place but the streets are nice and clear. Much to my children's dismay, they had school today and at regular time…not even a delay! Our snow removal people sure are working hard!
Please know that you are already in the Blogger Winner's Circle…but I sure would like to see a blogger in the Enchantment Winner's Circle as well!
Stay warm my friend! Spring is right around the corner!
Living the Dream!
Lynn, schools are still closed here. So is the government. Even though the MD State Highway Dept does an excellent job removing snow, there's so much snow and no place to put it. (FYI Luv2C_NewThings:The sewer would be clogged from all the snow.) The side streets are still snow bound. It's a good thing I'm on the snow emergency route or I would be snowbound too!
Hope the school kids enjoy their winter vacation, especially since they probably won't get out of school until July!
We have gotten close to a foot of snow, yet our schools never close. I think being a Minnesotan means you have to get out in the weather no matter what! I would much rather be in New Mexico. Sigh…………
Hi Lisa,
I can empathize with you. Growing up in New York City, borough of Queens, I do not think the public school system ever shut down. Only once – and I think it was because of a hurricane, but please don't hold me to that. Otherwise we had 2 hour delays, but since my mother worked and my father needed his sleep (night shift always) my siblings and I never enjoyed that luxury.
Lisa, when I lived in Minnesota, schools never closed. Snow mounds near intersections could be 6 feet, but children went to school. Sure don’t envy you in Minnesota.
I am sorry to hear about being snowbound in MD, but on a slightly more positive track you did say you were on the emergency route – so a little better for you. I realize now that I wrote "were." So we can think of it in the past tense because you WILL be going to New Mexico or wherever your fancy directs you with the inappropriately named "cash-out option."
Take care, Lessie.
Luv2C_NewThings, being snowbound is not bad. It gives me time to do all I SHOULD HAVE DONE because I now have no excuse. So there’s always something good in every situation. You are absolutely right about me having it much better than those not on a primary road. Besides, I can walk to the store, well many can walk to the store, but I don’t have to walk as far.
You are 2Sweet! Love the way you think. Better get ready for that surprise visit from the Dream Team, even though everyone is doing the same thing—with one exception, I’ve got YOUR blessing! Thanks!
Hey Lessie,
Of course you and a few other returning bloggies have my blessing. And if I win no one has to worry about planning the Bloggie Bash, I will make sure there is tons of food, tons of drinks (including your Pure Lemonade – nothing artificial) and tons of entertainment!
Sound good?
Sounds better than good. Sounds EXCELLENT! Sure hope a blogger wins so we can have the bloggie bash!!!
Please note, that with your adventurous, cosmo, and country, smart, and artistic, ,yearning for adventure your exploration and new journeys for beautiful places has just begun. I am blowing some hot Vegas breath, not garlic your way in the hopes that your snow melts quick.
Janice Vegas, maybe you should have included the garlic cuz all we have is mo’ sno’! Maybe they should move the Olympics here.
Ah yes Lessie, Janice Vegas the garlic wreathed Olympian, snowbird, boundingj in with the greatest of ease to huff and puff and blow the snow to show.
Hi Lynn,
Yes ~ Spring is right around the corner and so is the drawing for the DH. Love your creation of the "Enchantment Winner's Circle." Extremely creative on the thoughts of a "Blogger Winner's Circle" too!
Luv2C_NewThings – Thank you!!!!!!!!!
Waiting for the snow to start a fallin'! Yikes!
Living the Dream!
Hi Lynn,
Sorry so late, but my server actually went out during the storm and am still making my way from older blogs to the newest one. Just wanted to take a quick minutes and ask how your snow day went?
Hi there! We got a whole bunch of snow! 28 inches this past weekend and an additional 21 inches Tuesday/Wednesday. Needless to say, it was beautiful when it was coming down…now…not so much! Happy you are back up and running!
Living the Dream!
Hey Lynn,
Is everything back to normal where you are or is the snow and ice still getting in the way of things.
For NY, things seem to be back to normal with a few inconveniences when you hop on or off a bus – but other than that not too bad at all. Still have to see if what another round brings…
Lots of piles of snow everywhere make it a bit difficult to travel down the side streets, but, other than that, life is good! More to come tomorrow night…
Living the Dream on Valentine's Day!
Hey Lessie,
That wouldn't be the circular file {bin} would it? (te he he)
You know it!!!
no school today for my little ones the flurries cancel school because of slick bridges and sideroads they will be out tomorrow too but haven't gotten 2ft of snow yet.
So incredible to me that nature's layout is the best work of art known to man…….for all to love and enjoy and help take care of……..nature's own sweet bliss of imperfect perfection……thank God for everything he has done………always wonderful amidst life's ups and downs, how counting your blessings can make a world of difference…….whoever wins this, I hope they know how truly truly blessed they are
Beautiful, simply beautiful……
Thanks again Jessica for reminding all to count their blessings! I needed to hear that today!
You are so welcome!
Beautiful photograph! The rainbow, the colors, horses! Would like to read more of the haiku submitted! Very talented group! Thank you for sharing the photo and the site. My Grandmother like Jessica often reminded me to count my blessings. It does make a world of difference! Thanks Jessica!
Gail that was very pretty. Love it.
Hi Rose,
From one Texas gal to another
Cute name. I love being from Texas but I get mad fun of a lot living in BFE Arkansas.
Until I read this comment, I didn't understand why I was attracted to the 2010 Dream Home. It reminds me of Texas. It's also probably why I relate to the people in NM so well. They remind me of home.
LOL. I think you are right Lessie. I really think they did a wonderful job on this home more than the last 13. I cannot wait much longer to find out who wins. It feels like I have ants in my pants just wondering who is going to win.
Isn’t it strange that I never noticed that before. Should have known when I heard about the rattlers. My dad had a huge garden and we (children) were the weeders. The hoe was the primary garden tool. Reliving childhood memories and didn’t recognize it. I must be old.
LOL. My grandma loved roses and different colors of roses but we always planted all of her plants together. I love love love yellow roses. My grandpa (papa) called me his Yellow Rose of Texas. I loved to garden would loved to see a garden at the HGTV 2010 Dream Home but it would be interseting to make my own if I do win the house. I think there is a couple of great spots for a garden but we will see. I think about childhood memories all the time it does not make you old it makes you wise and greatful.
Thanks a million for the comment,
Rose @
I think a garden would be a nice addition to the Dream Home. If memories make me wise, I want to remember everything. Being grateful is a side benefit.
I think you are right. I think they should put a garden in not only for young and old to play in but the people in between too. LOL. I feel so old saying that but my oldest son just turned 5 on saturday and it makes me realize what a blessing it is to live in the US and have good memories as a child.
Rose @, age really doesn’t matter when we’re focused on the right things. Enjoy, enjoy, and enjoy. Your son is blessed to have you for his mom.
Thank you so much for saying that. He is a blessing to me and also his brother is too. \\'
Thank you so much for saying that. My oldest son and youngest son is a blessing to me and right now that is all I can ask for is to keep them safe. I love them so much and they get annoyed with me some times because I smother them in love.
Children are a blessing. Remember that when they reach their teens and you question yourself and ask: “Are those really my children?” The answer, “Yes, they are. They’re just searching for their own identity.”
Thanks for the advice. I think you are right and I will have to remember it and store it away until they get that age. I might just pass it on to a mom that I know that is going through problems with her two teen boys and two almost teen girls.
I wish we could put all of them together and make one big poem.
Hello from your long-lost friends, Ingrid and BoBo!!! (BoBo was the "Super-dog" from the Sonoma DH last year) I phoned the talented Super-fan, Gail, on Saturday to give her our compliments on how GREAT she continues to be as everyone's eyes and ears. I recognize many names from last year…good for you for being so loyal to this blog. The Sonoma DH needs a good family to occupy it asap…who among you is ready to be my neighbor? Ingrid from Sonoma
Hi Ingrid from Sonoma, glad to know you're still keeping track of us. MARIE MILLER would love to be your neighbor! So would Lovelykitty and all the others who toured the home multiple times. Sure hope the 2009 Dream Home finds a family soon because it's a lovely home. Would love to smell the vineyards, especially during harvesting time.
Ingrid: So nice to hear from you and BoBo. Besides loving that home, I loved the neighborhood. Amazed to hear that it is still unoccupied. If I had the $$$$ I would love to buy it. Is it priced too high? Hope a good family comes along soon.
Hi Ingrid and BoBo! Even though I have only did blogging for a little while but I love that you are back with us and love to see what is going to happen with last years home and also this years winner. I am so excited.
Welcome back,
Rose @
Sorry Lessie I had to take the way you typed my name because it is cute and easier to do.
I would also love to buy it….if only I could…out of curiosity, do you know if everything is still as it was and what they're asking??
Hi Ramona…I heard that the winners took most of the kitchen pots/pans/etc. to give to their just-married child. Also a few paintings, and that's it!!! The house still looks just like it did last year(inside and out), and the price is around the $2 million mark (+ or -).
INGRID & BOBO!!!!! It is so very good to hear from you! How is our favorite "Super-dog" doing? Does you ever take him to visit his little playhouse down the street?
Oh, Ingrid, I would love to be your new neighbor! I bet the weather is better there than here!
So, no new neighbors yet? I bet another sweepstakes for that house would be just as exciting as the first time. I know Marie would love it!
I bet it has certainly calmed down there since this time last year. Is life back to normal now?
I have so wondered how you and BoBo have been…it is Super great to hear from you!
Living the Dream!
Fantastic! Here in New England the skies are pale and cold. Out there, hot and wide. Vibrant. Stunning. Makes you want to take a deep breath and relax. But it also makes you want to run like a horse and kick your heels!
To Lessie-
I know I am still digging out my car in Baltimore–26 inches in my neighborhood.
To Gail-Thanks for the pic. What an infusion of color on a snowbound day!
But who is complaining? Snow days are the blessings of teachers everywhere.
You're absolutely right, Phototeacher! Are the side streets in Baltimore still covered with snow? They sure are in Howard County.
Completely covered! And it is tricky because there simply is no place to move the snow! To dig out the car it means clog the street or clog the sidewalk.
Oh well, shoveling is a great way to catch up on news with the neighbors.
Yep! My husband is a teacher and has had a cold that won't quit, so every snow day or two hour delay is more time for him to rest and recoop…I make big pots of stew and soup and we hunker down and enjoy the peace…unfortunately, something happened to our cable and we get no tv…I miss Masterpiece Theatre…but last night I read out loud for the first time in quite a while, from the book I'm reading, and that was a good reminder of how our evenings used to be spent…we didn't have a tv for many years, especially when our children were young, so we did a lot of reading out loud to/for each other…we're about an hour or so away from the DH and have had several inches of snow in the past few days….nothing to compare to where Lessie and others are, but enough to play in! And enough to make the roads iffy, especially in the early, frozen hours…the mud is also a real problem for our mail man, who is so diligent and kind…he trudges all the way down our landlady's drive to deliver the mail if it doesn't fit in the box….lots of roads and driveways out where we live are not paved and get very muddy, then get very slushy, then freeze, then turn to slush again when the sun comes out…it's not easy to drive in it, no matter who you are…I noticed a jeep the other day having a hard time staying on the road!…but we're glad, too, because this area has not had enough water for a long time…we need the snow! And I'm extremely grateful that I'm only subbing this year and don't have to go out much…our children are all going to work in the cold…three on the east coast and one in the northwest…I am enjoying this bit of hibernation, and am very grateful to all you bloggers, who help to make the time more interesting! And, as you can see, as the days go by and I'm at home more and more, I have to write more, too! Thanks for "listening" everyone!
I am in Northwest Arkansas. I don't live far from Fort Smith. I am from Texas and have not had snow since I was 5 years old. I am now 27 so it makes a big difference. I have taken so many pictures that I am going to put it on this profile. My favorite picture is of my boys playing in there first big snow. It is cold here but pretty.
Jessica makes a wonderful point as this contest nears the end. Many emotions for many people with regard to possible life changes as a potential winner…
Getting caught up in this incredible dream is not something I ever thought I'd do – I count my blessings every day and feel fortunate and undeserving of the many wonderful people and circumstances that surround me – my children and husband especially, they are my world and saving grace. I have all that I truly need or could have ever dreamed for already. Thanks for the reality check, Jessica.
Kate, I think runners would love to do that! I'm a walker though, but would love to enjoy all the beauty of NM.
Hello Gail , As everyone has said the picture just makes you feel things , you almost shudder , from the intense beauty, and the way it captures your heart to feel such love for our wonderful creator, How can we ever thank him enough for loving us so much
Ali B, wait until you personally experience the wonder of that area of NM. Can't describe it!
Hello Lessie , I have learned alot since all this began Lessie , and my thoughts have changed so many times , but, I know you are right , I would look forward to seeing NM , if I did win this , and no matter what is decided about the home , I would love to stay and visit a while and see all the things everybody has brought to life, The picture speaks volumes ,as to the Beauty that is there , I've never traveled much at all, I've always lived in the South, as I look at it now , It's about TIME, as Dr. Phil would put it , my hours are ticking down, LOL ….. but,. the one other thing that puts fear in me besides rattlesnakes , Lessie , …..Is Flying ,. only been up once. LOL.. Thanks for replying ,
Ali B, everyone has fears, you're not alone. I've been to different parts of New Mexico and it was ok. But after spending a week at the Ghost Ranch, I changed. The Dream Home isn't that far from the Ghost Ranch. The sunrises, sunsets, and canopy of stars in the night sky are worth a trip—even if it's a car ride. When you get there, tell me what you think.
You can drive to the Dream Home…it's not that far! I have a friend who cannot fly because she gets so very, very sick! But she does drive…don't give up hope! It would only take about two days. or less, if you really hoof it!
Beautiful sruss-what talent what joy loloapalooza on this site.
Gail – What a stunning picture! That rainbow is just beautiful! You are one lucky gal having personally experienced the Dream Home 2010!
On another note, I am sure there are some people who can't wait to go to the Public Tours. The photo and information in the following link is spectacular…
http://70.47.39.50/dreamhome/index.aspx
I am so thrilled that some of the bloggers will be visiting this home AND they are allowed to take pictures! Can't wait to see them and hear back with their rave reviews.
Living the Dream!
Lynn, you are so great at providing all the links we need. Thanks!
Lynn, thanks for posting the link! That photo is just awesome!!! I bookmarked the link for later use.
Beautiful picture!!
I'm new to the HGTV Dream Home & blogging. I have a couple of questions. I noticed that the house has well water. Do they also have septic? I also saw that they have cable access. Do they have telephone jacks already pre-wired throughout the house? Also, in order to save money on electricity and stay green, would the winner be allowed to install a residential windmill or would that be against the residental zoning restrictions?
I know these questions probably sound silly. I was just curious and trying to figure out what the monthly costs would be for utilities.
Thank!
Debbie H.

Welcome to the blog, Debbie H. You can get more info at the HGTVPro website: http://www.hgtvpro.com/hpro/pac_ctnt/text/0,2595,… You may also want to check out the SPO website as well.
Personally, haven't heard about a septic system. I would imagine the home has all you need, including telephone jacks, but I do know the home has been pre-wired throughout the home for sound, etc. There is a 4kW array of solar panels on the roof. You can check out all the home has on the HGTVPro website because my info may not be `100% accurate.
I'm almost positive I read somewhere that there is a septic system. I would, as Lessie suggests, contact the people at the San Pedro Overlook community. I'm sure they'd be glad to answer the windmill question!
Wow, another native Texan. Welcome. You would love all the snow in MD. Your kids would definitely love it. Enjoy! I hope you get more snow.
The awesome glory of the Lord. I love it when he shows off.
Me too, Karen.
LOL ME TOO. IT HAS BEEN A WORLD WIN THIS YEAR BUT BEEN GREAT AND LAST YEAR.
Amen to that!
CHANGE
Have faith in yourself
Go to the place of knowing
And be at peace now
Oh my! Oh my! This Haiku is incredible! It knocked my socks off! I think of the views from the Back Patio and the Casita there at the Dream Home so many times! Thanks Gail! This was so inspiring on this cold day here in the Denver area with snow (which is beautiful too) falling.
I did not see a sign for a contest to start. Where was it ??????
Under the blog "drape it like woodrum", if i remember correctly.
Thank you for the response.
It has been an on going thing since it has started.
Most of the blog posts were on, "All About the Artwork." I would suggest that you DO NOT click "Last Activity," and just read through the posts.
The "Ballot" for voting was on, "Drape it Like Woodrum." To find them easily, DO click "Last Activity."
Regards, H_S.
GAIL!! I knew that you would acknowledge the talents of all the bloggies !! Thanks for sharing the photo and your personal Haiku…. What a Super Fan!!!
renee: I'm confused. Was the haiku Gail's or Show Me's? At this time of night, confusion often overtakes me.
Gail posted 2 haikus in her message — the first one is Show Me's (rising sun's pure light…) and the one at the end is Gail's own creation!
Hey Katydid…. C&E is completely right… But, I also see that you received the info from H_S….. Hope you are all straightened out…hehehe
And it would be great to see a blogger win!! For those who would like to view the haikus that Gail is talking about go to the thread labeled as "Drape it like Woodrum" and I think it is on the last page (maybe number 8) and look for the Comment from Heritage_Seeker, aka H_S……. (posted from memory…if wrong, humor me, hehhehe)
LOL Lessie and I were saying that a week ago. I think that a blogger should win but you never know.
Hey Rose, let's put our good prayers and thoughts toward this. I totally agree with you and Lessie
FYI, Renee:

Yep… I saw everyone asking about "what haikus" so I just posted what I remembered… I didn't even think about the "All About the Artwork", as I thought that you reposted them on "Drape it like Woodrum"…. But, I remembered that there were other haikus that weren't in the "contest"…. Have a good one!!!
In the previous blog from Feb 5, David was kind enough to supply the links to the website for the Home Automation system that the Dream Home uses. As a followup to that, I found the info for the Home Automation remote control unit that can be seen to the left of the big screen TV in the 360 view of the Home Theater room (and also a couple of the photos of the Home Theater room). The info on that control unit can be seen at the following web address:

Wow — talk about state of the art! The more I learn about this Dream Home the more unbelievable and awesome it becomes!
Thanks for the link, Jimofh. You're right, this is one state of the art Dream Home!
Nice find Jimofh. I was short on time to fully explore the site. Thanks for the pointer.
To add to what Jimofh has found, I think perhaps this link is the control pad on the garage wall near the home entrance.

Jimofh and David you guys are great finding all of the high tech equipment for our High Dessert living in the Dream Home! Thanks for the research and keep Dreamin…
Wow thanks for this. I forgot all about it until I read your blog. What a nifty little gadget.
Completely a dream
Colors vivid to delight
Can you imagine
Good job, Renee. The haiku contest distinguishes this Dream Home from all the others.
I thought that I would try again. Not very good at poems, haikus, etc…. But, it is always good for one to push themselves a little past the comfort zone and I feel that I can trust my bloggies here!
I’m glad you did because you did a great job! This is such a talented group of bloggers.
I agree. totally, better than raw food. Its like cake to me yummy
You’re funny, Janice Vegas but you’re right!
You are funnier. I wish I could insert one of those smiley faces
renee: I love it! Maybe I'll post mine at the end of this blog. What do you people do about interruptions while you're on the blog? Phone calls? People coming in to talk to you? I find it hard to get through the blogs that I am so addicted to. Love you guys and HGTV so much.
Tell me about it!! We didn't get home until late last night because of after school activities and another soccer game!! We love you too!!!
Sorry renneelovesgreen,

Cancer took over

Could use some beauty
Dear Kitten Lover…I am so sorry about your home and car being taken away after such a stressful time! May all you need come to you again soon, may you stay healthy and strong, and may the people and angels and all other helpers you need to love you and support you through it all be there for you, every step of the way!!!!!
New Mexico State Flag
Fellow Bloggers, check out the NM State Flag – I tried to post a picture without luck
The yellow field and red symbol colors are the colors of Spain. First brought to New Mexico by Spanish explorers in 1540. On New Mexico's flag we see a red sun with rays streching out from it. There are four groups of rays with four rays in each group. This is an ancient sun symbol of a Native American people called the Zia. The Zia believed that the giver of all good gave them gifts in groups of four. These gifts are:
•The four directions – north, east, south and west.
•The four seasons – spring, summer, fall and winter.
•The day – sunrise, noon, evening and night.
•Life itself – childhood, youth, middle years and old age.
All of these are bound by a circle of life and love, without a beginning or end.
Thanks for sharing TexasTwoStep. The info I read on a Native American website didn't give this info.
Nice to meet you Lessie. Hope you are staying warm. We are in for some cold weather here too.
Where are you in Texas, TwoStep?
Lessie,
I am in the Texas Hill Country between San Antonio, and Austin. I live 1 mile from a deep Blue Beautiful lake "Canyon Lake" and 1/4 mile from the Guadalupe River. I live in a town Called Canyon Lake which is about 18 miles from New Braunfels.
That’s beautiful country, TexasTwoStep. I’ve never been to Canyon Lake but the area surrounding it is nice. Have some in-laws in Austin and San Antonio.
Thanks for sharing that wonderful information! I'll have a deeper respect for that flag in the future.
Regards, H_S.
Great info TexasTwoStep!! My mom lives in Lake Whitney… Thanks for sharing!!
Hi Loves green,
I have cousin who is a minister who lives in Lake Whitney. Its a small world. Good luck on winning the DH.
The flag is surrounded by all of the mystical energy of the ones that came before us. Your description was presented beautifully
One of my daughters, when she was in high school in upstate New York, after living in New Mexico the year before, made a gorgeous stained glass image of the Zia, against the blue skies and brown mountains of New Mexico as my husband's and my Christmas present…I'm hoping to hang it in one of the Dream Home's windows!!!
Wait, that came out wrong…
Cancer changed it all
Took my house and car too
Need some beauty back
Good Luck and maybe start a new haiku to start bringing the beauty back like:
These challenges happen
Building our souls with much strength
To have something special
Wait, that came out wrong…
Cancer changed it all
Took my house and car too
Need some beauty back
