Your Own Private Island
If you win HGTV Dream Home 2010, I think you may have to invite Super Fan over for dinner. Or she may just show up to help you chop veggies. Check out her latest video to find out why.

risotto, yum!
The latest dream home is wonderful! I love the desert setting and would love to work and raise my family there.
But the homes are too extravagant. It would be nice if HG gave away a home that the winner could actually afford the taxes, upkeep and utilities on.
Hi Gail,
Thanks for your energy, and all you've showed us!
Love,
seach it there is probably a variety of risotto your choice
Yeah, I also love risotto but don't know how to cook it . I would love to have Gail come over and we can cook it together. What fun in that beautifula and functional kitchen.
HGTV probably won't get this message. I'm not familial with blogs.
I love the Dream Home, and keep up with all the programs & developments. The 1 comment I have is that with all the appliances and furnishings in the Dream Homes and Green Homes being so "Over the Top", I am amazed HGTV does not use a king size bed in the master bedroom.
Me neither! Been trying for weeks! Let's see if this works… I love HGTV -been watching for yrs. This is my 2nd yr. entering DreamHome contest I'm trying to blog but keep getting"Error"oh well have a great day everyone
Yes, as a Native New Mexican away since 1973 I'd love to win the dream home but my husband was asking me yesterday if my plan was to win the dream home, file bankruptcy and return! He's a photographer so my real plan is for him to make his fortune taking pictures of the beautiful landscape and people and keep that gorgeous house, make some great tamales in that beautiful kitchen and get to know my old friends again! Totally dreamin'!!
PS- Gail, come on over! You can help me out!
Gail-Of course you're invited! That island is huge! Thanks for another great look. Mailed out my last postcards. Only 8 more days of entering! Oh, the suspense!!!
Dean, how many postcards have you mailed in?
I mailed around 75. Not really that many considering the amount of mail-ins they received in previous years. But, you never know if they will picking from on-line or mail-ins… Just trying to cover my bases.
Wow Dean. You sure covered all your bases. Let me see how many entries I can mail before the sweeps ends. I think 22 should do it. If not, it wasn't meant to be.
Well, you know in the past there have been winners with just 1 on-line and 5 on-line entries, so who knows, this year it might be someone who only mailed in one postcard!
Works for me, Dean! I am walking in the snow to a mailbox in the shopping center just to mail in an entry. Besides, I can use the exercise.
Good for you. Really. I am in awe. I have talked about snail mail entries and have had every intention of doing it, but haven't brought myself to do it yet and I am running out of time.
David, this may sound dumb, but it is a challenge to take the time to write out the info to enter the sweeps by mail. Maybe we should dedicate a day to doing just that, otherwise it's all good intentions, at least for me.
Lessie, I agree. I do everything on a computer including paying my bills. It is hard to handwrite for me after years of typing and no handwriting. But the rules specifically say I can't print out an entry. Never mind finding the time to actually do it. It is just so much easier online. My only solace is I think I read that all winers have been online winners. No mail in entry has ever won. Of course this could be the first. ;-(
Then why not just send in one…It could be THE one!
My favorite part of the house is the fabulous kitchen! I love the island and seating area!
Dean just curious as to how many post cards you sent out?!
I just read up above and saw 75, was that your final count? If so good for you!
I ended up sending 85, but that's nothing compared to some here. I read close to a thousand from one person and others have mentioned sending some every day. I spent what I thought was reasonable on sending entries. It's really up the Dream Home gods and goddesses who wins!
Dean, good for you. I wrote about 30, and it was tough! I saw that someone said that they did 1,000 but I'm kinda doubting it, based on the crick in my neck from writing 30!
LOL–funny. Yeah, I was kinda wondering about the 1,000 being an exaggeration. Probably trying to psych us out!
Hi To all from the dream home and HGTV, I have entered the last day of the make a wish come true day. Thats what I call it. Its like if someone winsthe Lotto, everyone hopes it will be them, but only one wins. I give my hats to all who have everyday clicked on the Chance for them to be a winner of a new home, car, etc…I watch the show everyday and I can't wait to watch the next time when they wake someone up and tell them they are the winners of the HGTV Home. Im so silly I cry everytime someone wins it. I think its so cool, that the companys who all came together to make a home for someone elses, wow its just amazing to me that theses people have so mach care for others. So on that note Congrats to all who have entered and ABIG Congrats to the one who wins this very special home. I'll be watching to see who wins, with my box of tissues in hand. So Good luck to all and see ya next year. maybe then I will have a chance. Dreams really do come true, So I will keep dreaming. Or home is so old, and has all of the older materials in it like everything that causes my husband and I to get sick. Keep praying everyone.
Hi, Gail! You can come over anytime–You have a permanent open invitation! Tell me just what ingredients you will need to make the risotto! Leave the dishes to me and our 2 new dishwashers. You just sit, relax, and take in all of the beautiful vistas! And don't forget to stay long enough to watch the sky as the beautiful sun sets in the sky! Hey, there is the Casita waiting for you–why not be the first of our company and then, you get to see the glorious sunrise, too!
At last! I didn't know who to ask about the dishwashers. I knew there was one in the butler's pantry, but there was no mention of one that should obviously be IN the kitchen. Just where is it? (forgive please, I'm new to this blog and I couldn't find this answer, so if I'm repeating, just give me a whack and I'll try harder)
It is on the left side of the kitchen sink.
Thank you very much, Barbara.
"whack"…
Love that response, LeeG1!
Anne & Gail… I am a major fan of New Mexico and have dreamed of joining the extended Artistist Community in Santa Fe… I just know I'll have room for both of you to visit when I win my Dream Home!
I actually got cold chills when you shared the details of the kitchen. WOW!!! How fun it would be to host parties and share with others. Storage was well thought out throughout this fabulous home.
Gail, You have the greatest personality and I have enjoyed your enthusiasm everytime you talk about this beautiful home THE KITCHEN IS AMAZING ! I also like the island.
J*
I would just love to cook in that kitchen! Heck, I’d love to wash the dirty dishes in that kitchen! It’d be easy with 2 dishwashers, ha ha. Well good luck to everyone and I hope whoever wins this years dream house can cook!
Crossin my fingers!
It wouldn't take me long to figure it out in a kitchen as neat as this one. It will probably be a lot quicker , be able to do more cooking at one time. My family would love that change from a small kitchen thats just boring. Then you can have another cook making things at the same time. It is the greatest think so
If I win, you wanna come do the dishes? ;^)
My thoughts exactly.
I'm thinking that It would be a good idea to "rent" out the Casita as a trade for housekeeping services. I have a hard time keeping the wood floors in my little condo clean…
I know what you mean…dust bunnies love wood floors…
Now, that's funny, only because I can soo relate.
I'm definitely winning and I do love to cook.
Gail, I LOVE the kitchen. It actually makes me want to cook and that is saying something!!!! The island is fabulous but I can't think of anything that isn't.
A little less Gail and more on the countryside and home. She is beginning to wear thin. I wake up screaming thinking she could be a neighbor! Dial it back, Honey. No, no dinner invitation.
Rude! I think you will find you are in the minority there.
Perhaps if you are feeling she's a bit much, then please realize that you don't have to watch all the videos – or only watch the tour videos without her. You do have options.
We have a saying here in South Austin from a well-loved local legend, Danny Young who said:
"Just Be Nice"
The good energy and nice comments you put out in the world do come back to you and vice versa.
I totally agree LSL. Gail you have a open invite with me. Also, for the Bar-b-ques, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.
Love you and all that you do to keep us informed. This has all been a blast.
That was very rude ! There is nothing about Gail that bothers me. I like her ! I would have her to my house any time she could come.
I guess your Grandmother never told you, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anythig at all."
Yeah, and Thumper's mom said it too!
Ditto!
I totally agree with Kate & all the other bloggers….I love & enjoy Gail…..
SHE IS OUR #1 SUPERFAN…..SHE'S THE BEST…..
WOW, What a hurtful statement to make! I believe HGTV was blessed to have such an awesome person like Gail inspire us . Her passion for this home has allowed me to dream of a better future for me and my family. I 've enjoyed meeting (on-line), and bloging with such a diverse group of people who mainly share my same hopes and dreams. Even if I don't win the house, I hope your dreams come true and can warm your cold heart.
Nina I love it. Well said…
DVL, GAIL is our Super Fan and will be protected by many of us. You always have the option of not watching the vlog…. Besides, GAIL didn't post it MARY did…. They have her do the videos for them to place and use as needed, wanted, etc., So asking her to dial it back is incorrect. Plus, I love her enthusiasm and caring nature. Maybe you will be just a little more understanding…. She would always be invited should I win, along with many others.
Amen. DVL gets a "thumbs down" from me!
That really was so rude and hurtful … it had no business on there !!! I along with many others think Gail is delightful, up beat, and encouraging. It is a gift and thank you for sharing part of yourself with us all this season. Wishing you the best.
Patricia Anne,
I found this blog quite by accident. Sorry that everyones' shorts are in a wad but a blog is an opinion forum. Opinion. When opinions are invited be careful; never ask a question that you may not want the answer to. We never covered New Mexico as boasting the highest violent crime rate in the Nation or balancing it with the lowest literacy rate!
Sorry, ladies. House is wonderful, no question. Gail is a great spokesperson, just not for me. OK?
Does that about cover it? I don't kick puppies or yell at babies. My friends know me and can count on me. Isn't it wonderful that we live in a country where we are entitled to an opinion and can express it freely? Good luck with the home contest. I already have one I enjoy, with my dogs, and family
still a troll, I see…
Agreed
Opinions are awesome. I would quite literally give my life for that incredible freedom. The opinions go both ways as exampled above. Sometimes when we exercise our freedom of speech/opinion, the response we receive may not be what we anticipated. That is a chance we take. Freedom is still there as your comment was not removed.
The emotion you elicited I believe was a proctective response to words that were received as harsh and condeming towards a person. A personal attack if you will, versus an opinion regarding the home, design or other.
My guess is that if you communicate in this fahion on a regular basis you have more than the average amount of conflict and confrontation.
Ditto
DVL…. This is a wonderful group of bloggers who are quite protective of each other. I appreciate your apology that you meant nothing malevolent in your comment. It is good to know that you don't kick puppies, yell at babies and that your friends can count on you. This is a place that you can state your opinion, though maybe choosing your words will help. There are always going to be negative aspects of any state and New Mexico is beautiful and has wonderful cities for one to live in and feel safe, educated and enchanted. Good luck to you, your dogs and family!
DVL-actually, crime rates and literacy (rather schooling) has been covered completely on here and researched by many. While yes, NM may have a high crime rate in some parts, the rate in Sandia Park is not listed as being that bad. The same goes true for the schools. The schools are some of the top rated in the state…even though the rest of the state is behind the national average.
As for your comment and the responses that you have gotten, it is Gail's job (along with Mary) to do this blog…if you would like to be part of a community discussion about the dream home which does not involve Gail, then there is the HGTV message board for the dream home. Most people like her perky personality, but there are options if that doesn't appeal to you rather than being rude to her on here.
love it…thanks
Seriously??? Wow, I hope I'm never your neighbor! I think Gail is fantabulous…This whole thing is a dream and she has been doing an amazing job of helping us all experience it!
I just ignore the DVL. Next time I see those initals I just skip over without reading it. They must be really poor in the emotion and manners department. LOVE YOU, GAIL.
thumbs down
I just learned that "In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion." DVL seems to qualify as a troll, and internet communities suggest that you don't feed them (they say DNFTT). My guess is that DVL wakes up screaming for other reasons besides Gail.
Good info, Wyo_girl!!! Don't forget to give DVL a "thumbs down"
Regards, H_S
Heritage seeker. quick question. i've tried the thumbs up and down and it always says i need to b logged in. I'm pretty sure I am. Aargh can u help? Thanks and sorry to bother u
You are really funny! I say we put DVL to the TROLL vote!
Wyo-Girl , You have hit the nail on the head , The minute I read that post , I said to myself whoaaaa!! something isn't right here , It was Beyond Rude, and you are so right ,anyone that would have that kind of conduct should not be given our time to reply,,,,,,,,,,, I feel when their parents got home and found out they have been playing on the computer they were probably in BiG trouble with them to .Don't you all think?
Although I was advised to DNFTT, I wanted to let you know I gave you a "thumbs down."
DVL (not sure what the letters stand for, but if I put in vowels…),
This is my first blogging year and thought that Gail was going to the house weekly or living there in order to put in some information. That was how naive I was. When I looked back, I saw that she was wearing the same clothes. It was pointed out to me that it was porbably filmed all in one day. Duhh !! O.K. Gail has a job to do. It is easy to see Gail's personality, emotions, and ability to affect others. She is doing her job well. She probably went from room to room trying to say all that she could in the briefest amount of time. Either you did not realize all this or you were just bored. The result was a long page of accolades for Gail. A super duper DH Fan who we either agree with, like. or absolutely love and enjoy hearing from – meaning she has a great voice !!!!!
Thumbs down.
DVL: Does that stand for devil? I don't think you are evil, just misguided. You are CLEARLY in the MINORITY here. We love Gail. She is doing a fabulous job. This video was one of her best, showing the huge kitchen island, opening a cupboard, offering to cook a favorite recipe. I would wake up screaming if you were my neighbor, but luckily that could never happen. Please go troll somewhere else.
Wow what a sad pathetic narrow comment DVL. You sound very narcissistic and are probably enjoying all the attention. Don't like it…then get out of the kitchen!!!!
Now that's an interesting response DVL. I've never read anything like it before. But as a blogger, you're free to share your thoughts even though you may be in the minority. Does this mean there won't be a blogger party if you win?
You are always so kind…no matter what! Thanks, Lessie!
!
Thanks for your kind comments Ramona. Everyone has an opinion, no problem. It's just that I like mine better than theirs. So we're even in my book.
Thumbs down DVL…..everyone has an opinion, some are best kept to themselves:)
Keep Dreamin…
Hey! Take the burr out from under your saddle blanket and start the ride over! No one appreciates rudeness! There has been plenty of content on the house and surroundings for months now! A merry heart doeth good like a medicine…I have enjoyed Gail's animated video clips.
All I can say is, too bad for you because she's been the super fan before, is now and will probably be in the future. When I win, there will definitely NOT be an invitation for you. You may not like her, but it's just rude to say something like this. Either, you are trying to get a rise out of people or you're just lacking in manners. Whichever, I won't have a place setting reserved for you nor would I want you for a neighbor.
you are not on the invite list.
Wow i just read this and i can't believe someone would be so rude.Gail i hope your alright after this comment .You have all the rest of us that enjoy your comments and videos on our Dream Home who's ever it maybe.Good luck to all. Keep up the good work Gail.I look forward to seeing what your going to show us next. KEEP DREAMING BLOGGERS.
Wow DVL……. so many words come to mind rude, nasty, ignorant to name a few. I'm sure she isn't your honey, wouldn't want to be your neighbor or an invitation to dinner, as obviously the same for the rest of us who have responded to your post.
Wow. Speaking of screaming, your personality is really coming across, DVL. Usually when something in someone bothers us so much it's an indication of an issue we have with ourselves. Little envious of a happy person, perhaps? Envious of a person who has a good job and enjoys what they do? You have some soul-searching to embark upon, DVL and an apology to write.
hands down to you
why you so angry? DVL
WOW! Just read your post & it served to remind me what I like about this blog. It is so seldom I see a post that qualifies as anything but kind & considerate. DNFTT.
WOW! Wouldn't it be interesting if DVL won the dream house?!?! C'mon people, you are all doing to her what you say you don't like her doing to Gail. We all should be nice, not just to those who agree with us.
Gail, I sure have enjoyed the pictures, videos, and blog. Does the house have an ice maker?
Yes it does. Actually, each freezer drawer would have one since there are two refridgerators.
Of course you are invited! Then I will invite the rest of my Italian family and we will add some lasagna, penne and tortellini to the menu!
Gail,
Thanks for the new blog! If I win, you'll definitely have an open invitation. You keep yourself dialed just where you are. I look forward to each new blog, and I know others do too!
Tina
I absolutely agree! There is nothing wrong with all the lovely enthusiasm. The blog is fun AND informative.
Hi Gail,
Yes you are invited to dinner with us, not just you but the whole crew. You all will be treated in style see you all very soon.
I LOVE My KITCHEN IT IS absolutely AWESOME! HEAVENLY!
Your kitchen? It's my kitchen.
Seriously, though. Whether it's your kitchen, my kitchen, or someone else's, the house is beautiful. I try to fall asleep at night picturing the different rooms.
It's absolutely YUMMY !
The kitchen itself is amazing and the island will be a place my family will hang out. I can see it now, homework to dinner what a great thing!!! My family and I always eat together and after eating we sat and talk about our day. The only thing I can think the great room, kitchen area is missing is a tv. We love to set around the kitchen table playing cards and watching tv. I think its because after dinner its great to relax and have some dessert while watching our favorite show. We would use the home theater for movie night, so I feel sure we would have to purchase a tv for the great room.
It's not missing. It is wonderful to have no tv in your main living room. You end up doing much more with your family. Conversations, games, plan outings, etc.
It looks like there's a cable tv outlet in the great room to the lower left of the big red painting. The winner should have no problem adding a television if desired.
cja, we have an under the counter tiny TV in our kitchen and we use it the same way!
cja: Don't forget there is a wonderful sound system for playing music. Don't you converse together while dining? And playing cards? Using the home theater for movie nights only seems such a waste. Hey, but if you're as addicted to tv as I am to this blog, I understand. Hint: before you purchase another tv, consider moving one of the many others to the great room.
'
I've seen this footage already and do love how roomy and spread out the kitchen is. I like that others can sit and watch you perform in the kitchen at the same level.
My current kitchen (soon to be former kitchen) has a tall, wraparound bar that people can sit at with higher barstools so they don't feel like they are at the same level – they look down on the counter and can't really reach across the counter if that makes sense. The only benefit to my taller bar/counter is that from the den, you don't see the mess and dirty dishes on the counter or in the sink because the upper ledge hides it from view. But my house doesn't have a Butler's pantry so you can always hide some of the mess in there right?
I can't wait to cook my first meal in my new Dream Home! I think I will need to break it in correctly by doing something southwest, maybe from my new Bobby Flay cookbook with my new Bobby Flay seasonings that are part of the Housewarming package!
And yes, Gail, any time you are in the area or feel like you are missing the NM DH, give me a heads up and you are always welcome!
Don't forget the new "Margarita" frozen beverage blender to go in those beautiful hand blown glass margarita glasses that are showcased in the butler pantry!!!!
Oooh Yeah!
Do love frozen Margaritas – even in winter.
I also have a wonderful recipe for a "Pepperita" made with slices of Jalapeno and Rum that's to die for. I'll have to invite all the HGTV folks who made the house possible and bloggers to a housewarming party to try my Pepperitas.
My old country house has such a small kitchen! This would be awesome! I love to cook! And 2 dishwashers? My daughter and I would be in love with just them!
Gail you seem like the best friend anybody could want I love watching your cheerful videos I am always so happy to see another one , and sure you can be my friend. I would love that. I am in love with the 2010 Dream Home. I wish I had a spacious and welcoming kitchen like this one. I love the style and all of the tiles this kitchen is the neatest kitchen I have ever seen.
I so look forward to these posts. The video footage is the best, I love seeing stuff I haven't seen yet, like the storage under the island. Show me more! Thanks!
Hi Kel and Pat. I have wanted them to show a tour of the home's automation system room? The exterior door near the sunrise room is it, I betcha. They show pictures of the system on HGTV Pro.
Good Luck!
I was reaching for a pot out of my cabinets last night and I wondered if I'd have to keep my pots in the Butler's Pantry if I won the Dream House. Thanks for the info on the Island. Of course you'll haveto come to dinner! I don't know anyone else in New Mexico! I need to meet people to have those great parties!
Kate, you will be able to store those pots wherever you want to put them. Who in your household would dare challenge you? Are they nuts?
I love this house !!!! It is everything I ever dreamed of. The kitchen is just fantastic and the casita is just right for when my older sister comes to visit. I want to cook, wash, work and play at this house. If I win, then you are all invited to come and we will party down.
Maggie are you from MI?
Gail I feel the same way it's always nice to have plenty of cooking prep space. I noticed a long time ago, I counted that there was 5 place settings. I thought I liked last year's with white French victorian look but I like this years island much better, "the black modern masculine."
If I win anyone from the HGTV crew is welcome to come over, "anytime," and they won't have to cook.
Gail I forgot if we don't see ya before then Happy Valentine Day Love to all of you dreamlovers bloggies and hgtv and especially Gail for being such a good video maker.
I am really looking forward to the day they announce the winner. I really love this house and I hope my family and I will be moving in. The kitchen is fabulous!! I always love a big kitchen. And, since we are trying to eat healthier meals, being able to steam vegetables will be great!
I have entered so many times! I don't know how many times you have to enter to win–but, my hands are getting tired from addressing all those envelopes!
Good luck to everyone!
You should watch this video to get a better idea — click the link below! by the way, the winner of the 2002 Dream Home only entered ONCE!!!
http://blog.hgtv.com/dreamhome/?s=winner+selectio…
Good Luck to you to Julie
Mary!! I saw this the other day and fell in love even more!! I also asked GAIL what her favorite risotto was and I am still very much interested?? The storage on the ends of the island are great and a smart solution. I can imagine cooking away in the kitchen while entertaining and having my son chop some of the veggies to throw into the steamer.
Renee- I would love to know Gail's risotto recipe too…..And maybe that can be a housewarming gift for the winners to have Gail over to cook it. LOL Really I would love the recipe:)
As you probably know, GAIL, I'm no cook, so you'll be more than welcome to show up and chop veggies, along with prepping the rest of the meal! I'd be happy to share my Dream Home kitchen island with you anytime, and bring the hubby. Plenty of room for all.
I'll have Show Me do the clean up, toss the plates in the dishwasher, and we'll enjoy drinks and maybe some Lindor Truffles in the Great Room, or right out on the patio. We'll even invite the neighbors, and have a real New Mexico fiesta to celebrate the dream! Don't forget your new wrap, just in case the evening's a bit cool.
Benvenuto alla casa dei sogni!
I am wondering if you share drinks with Show Me….. Great invitation!! Gail would be fun to have over!
You are better linguest than I. This is a great expression, and when I go with my husband's Italian side of the family to Italy next year,I would love to know what this expression means. So tell us Coop what the translation is.
Hi there! I am pretty sure it means, "Welcome to the Dream Home!"
Living the Dream!
Oh you are too funny Lynn Coggins!!! I am laughing up the cahzoo, I mean wazhoo-h or something at least muscial.
I have this story to tell about my often dyslexic use of language.
Right on, Lynn. Literally translated, it means "Welcome to the House of Dreams" and of course, in English (and here in the blog), we'd simply say "Welcome to the Dream Home!"
You were absolutely correct, Coop's phrase does mean Welcome to the Dream House. Good goin and Good Luck
Welcome to the house of dreams! I love it and keep dreaming.
Rose
My daughter and my husband would flip out over this kitchen, they both love to cook! This would be paradise for them both…..
HGTV Dream Home Public Tours Start Today!
Looking forward to visitor's thoughts on how much they love the enchanting HGTV Dream Home 2010!
Living the Dream!
I have tickets for Sunday afternoon. We go to the high school & a bus takes us to the house. The tour is 45 minutes long. Then they bus in the next bunch. I wonder if we can hang out & take a later bus, like the next day so we can spend the night there after everyone leaves. Well actually there's no tours M-W so we can stay 4 nights , hmmmm sounds like a plan. Wouldn't that be fun?
If Gail's next video shows you and your hubby hiding in the background, Sue, we'll know that your plan worked! Don't hide in the casita bathroom — you'll get caught!
LOL!
Sounds like a great plan to me, SueAbq. Hope they don't count heads before leaving and returning to the school!
How exciting for you! I wish I lived a little closer. Can't wait to hear all about it.
I am getting excited, 1 day, 5 hrs & 9 minutes until I get to see all of our dreamhouse !!! I will make sure I find a good place to hide out. Maybe the playhouse, they won't check there. Wyo_Girl, I know better to hide in the casita bathroom. That is just too open for me. That glass needs some frost on it.
I do wish all you guys could go with me, I feel blessed to be able to & I will post my visit as soon as I decide to come home from there, probably Thursday when the tours start again. I hope Gail is there to cook for me cuz it says in the rules that no outside food or drinks are allowed. LOL. If any of you can think of a good place to hide out, let me know. : )
SueAbq, No, don't hide in the playhouse! I think its only accesible from outside…You would be stuck there outdoors and its probably pretty cold! I hate to picture you shivering in the playhouse for 4 days! Maybe you'd fit in a cabinet in the recycling room;) Can't wait to hear back from you after your tour- Have fun!
Hi Gail,
Muti buena deliciousa prana. Knowing you now the way we do, there is no way that you are going to come over and not want to make a delicious dinner. The vegges, and an artichoke are ready and waiting. So you have the kitchen kid, and I will perch on one of the comfy sits until its time to cook the vegges, Then I would probably offer barbeque artichokes as an appetizer that we all cooked out on the grill. By the way you need your own reality show, every time I watch your videos, I just want to climb in and give you a big hug. You are like the hostess with mostess. I will check back with you all later, I am taking a break to make some salmon cakes.
Cena means dinner, and what the heck does prana mean. Ah boy, it that like parana. I dont think we want to eat paranas for dinner. I have a funny story to tell about misunderstanding language!
Do you have to speak Spanish to live in NM?
I would love this kitchen!!! Woould be a breath of fresh air, it looks so beautiful I love to have family gatherings. This kitchen would be so coll for me and my two kids as well as my husband to cook together as a family. What a blessing to whom ever wins this beautiful dream home! Good luck to all who have enter I have enjoyed this forum and all of your comments! God Bless
Hi Gail, Oh this just keeps getting better and better. It's amazing but I found I could see more details of the home through the photos, rather than video. This is another close up which shows that the architect and builder have thought of everything – and the HGTV dream house could not be more perfect! I love it that you have a powder room – is there more on that? And I'm wondering if there is some type of closet from the entrance to the garage to hang coats, etc? Also, is there a corridor that allows a walk-through from the laundryroom by the master bedroom to the kid's room? I couldn't tell by the design plans. You guys have really done a great job! And with that kitchen, I can throw a really big party, and you're invited!
Topa….I was also wondering if there is a closet for coats, ect off the entrance of the garage. Does anyone know?
Hi, Gail
Have been viewing your video's all morning. Thanks. Have been wondering where the 14 guests might hang their coats upon arrival to a winter's evening soiree…
Click on the link below to learn more. You will see a picture of the closet.

Thanks so much for that and also for all the other information to which you are so graciously guiding other questioners.
Yes, I've been wondering when you walk in from the garage, is there a closet? Let me know if you find out anything. there is a closet at the front entrance next to the home office. Hope that helps!
Topa, there isn't a closet right off the garage, but many have speculated that they could hang coat racks either right inside the recycling room or right outside it in the garage. Looks like there is a lot of wall space for that.
If I win Gail, you're welcome to come over any time. I'll probably put you to work in the kitchen making risotto. That island is to die for. Just the island itself looks like it's about the size of my whole kitchen. My goodness!!!
My kids and I can't wait to move in! They remind me everyday to enter and they ask me "How many days until we win our house Mom?" They've already invited all thier friends to move to New Mexico with us…so Gail…I'm gonna need help cooking for all these people..
Come on over!
It's great that your kids enjoy your dream, Nicole Lowe. Are they also aware that there's a possibility they may not win? You know how cruel some kids can be when what a kid says doesn't come true. Sure wouldn't want your kids to experience that.
Everything about this home excites me! It's beautiful… and my favorite color is found throughout! Maybe it's a sign
Can't wait to taste your risotto!!
Superfan… I have been watching from a far and entering to win every day. Now we are getting down to the last week or so, I do have a couple questions. I hope you have time to answer them. I love the amount of storage in that kitchen. It is so brilliant because ther are so few upper cabinets, but with the two pantries, there is so much storage. Since you showed the cabinet in the island, it inspires me to ask you something else. What are those verticle cabinets next to the ovens for. Maybe storage for bottles? Or for sheet pans?
Another storage question, but this one is in the master closet. The dresser in the middle is described as an "island". Is it movable? Behind it and the mirror are there more clothes racks?
Thanks for all the tidbits and inside information!
Superfan, a couple other questions have been nagging at me and I am dying to know (of course I will know all just as soon as I win the house
). Most rooms have what appear to be speakers on the ceilings…. is there in fact a house sound system? (that would be so cool). And do I see solar panels on the roof?
thanks!
Hi, ollio62. The answer to both questions is Yes.
There is a 4 kW solar panel array on the roof. You can find out more interesting things, watch some videos and see more pictures by clicking the link below. Enjoy!

Gee H_S, you're on the ball – answering all these newbie questions. Good for you!!!
Dear Gail, You have done a wonderfull job. Your position, as I see it, is to keep us all praying, hoping, and dreaming. You have done so well with that. We all are very anxious for the hgtv home sweepstakes drawing. It's been a exciting journey, it's kept us all thinking so positively about love, life, and the beauty of nature. Thankyou so much for being our loyal super fan!!!! Jackie
Dear Jackie,
I just wanted to say that I just noted your beautiful comment, and decided to stop by to let you know that it was recognized as wonderful.
I was blown away at the design of this home. My husband and I have been to Santa Fe a number of times and hope to retire there or nearby. We love the ambiance of the entire area, Wander downtown near the mission, go into all the wonderful shops and restaurants (we love the "Atomic Cafe"). With the New train system between Albuquerque and Santa Fe it opens a whole other set of options for people in the area. Then there's always the Turquoise Trail. Wow, I just can't say enough about NM and this home just really tops it all. What a huge thrill to even think that one could have a chance at a beautiful home such as this and in the area of our dreams. A BIG WOW!
I cant wait to get settled into my new kitchen. The kids and I have been praying and entering everyday!! We'll see you in New Mexico!!
This is exiting — a winter storm WARNING in Pensacola, FL!
It started to SLEET at 4pm on Thurs. Feb.11 — I can't wait to see P-cola with snow!!!
I'm all stocked & stoked!
Gosh, I thought I was on Intensedebate. I always click permalink first, then log in. I suppose I should also click intensedebate on eash response or new post, right? I'm the goofie. I've tried clicking Intensedebate, then filling out (for the 3rd time) my id, etc. I just end up back at the beginning of this strand (Feb.11) Oh, well.
The other story concerns the lovely Tom when we first started dating. He was Captain of Port here on that night of the hurricane race in 1985.
Stay warm and safe tonight.
DebbieFlorida, join ID because I want to read your stories. The only way we can all read them is if you sign us with ID as H_S suggested, which means we also get to read his stories.
Debbie, I'm not sure how to advise w.r.t. the IntenseDebate issues. I'll keep looking for the other parts of your story! Please make sure to post them directly to me & I'll see them in my email.
Thanks, H_S
Well H_S, you should live in Colorado and have it sleet and snow and sleet and snow and sleet and snow…you get the picture! ;^)
Seriously, glad you are stocked up and hunkered down. Nothing like having a cup of cocoa with marshmallows, a warm blankie and a good book while watching the snow drift down…
Going to work in it, not so much…
Have fun!
Since I live so close to the Gulf, I doubt that we'll see any accumulation — would be nice though.
I'm not planning to go out & buy a snow blower, however. I really feel badly for those people in the mid-Atlantic region!
Can't wait to hear your weather report, H_S! Did you get any winter weather?
Lessie, good morning! Right now it's 34 F and rain, lots of rain, in Dreary Pensacola!
They are still calling for it to change over, but I don't think I'll see any — too close to the Gulf & Perdido Bay.
Regards, H_S
Had hoped to receive a different report later, H_S, but I guess you only received rain. No problem. You've received enough snow in your life.
Hope you got some snow, H_S! Weather forecasters say we're getting more snow on Monday, another or so.
That's the last thing Y'all need! I wish you a safe journey through this incredible event!
Regards, H_S
You're absolutely right, H_S, but there's nothing we can do about it. So, let it snow, snow, snow. Just not before I leave for Palm Springs or return home. Selfish, you bet!
I was in awe coming home to all of the remaining snow as well as the snow plow piles that tower above my head…definitely not used to this. We also were without power for 24 hours before our trip (as well as dealt with trip cancellations). I hear that we are in for more snow not only tomorrow, but also next weekend. The totally ironic thing is that my daughter doesn't want to go out and play in it at all…well, my older daughter- the younger one (now 1 year old- no longer a baby) wants to go out in the snow, but the remaining snow is still quite a bit taller than her (that's not counting the snow plow piles).
How are you doing there in P-cola? It's 30 degrees here today and the sun is shining down on the mounds and mounds of snow!
Living the Dream!
Lynn, this morning it was 33 F, now 35 F. We had a lot of rain last night and this morning. I just saw (noon CST) a news report that Mobile, AL (just west of me) was getting snow. They still have a Warning posted, but I live so close to the Gulf & Perdido Bay, that I really don’t expect to see any. Further north is where they ARE getting it.Thanks for asking! H_S
Yeah- too bad the weather reports said 65-75 before I left on my trip… I bought a sweatshirt and was rewearing my jeans when the daytime low in Orlando was 34 and the high wasn't even 50 degrees.
Hey there, welcome back!!!
Besides the weather, I hope your trip was enjoyable!
It was good…both girls cried when we left. The one year old was sobbing "I wan mi-ey" (she can't say the "t" or the "ck") and my older daughter had tears streaming down her face…she wants me to move to Orlando some day. The Disney people were really great too and left balloons as wells as stuffed animals for both girls in the room for the 1 year old's birthday.
oh i can see my mother and I in that kitchen right now cooking some island dishes from back home for everyone who made this dream home possible and ofcourse gail your invited too. I can see us all having a party in that kitchen and out door sitting area.
Gail,
Your skin looks beautiful on the video! Do you mind sharing what products you use to keep your face glowing and youthful??? Of course, you're invited to our first dinner party! My husband is the absolute BEST grill cook! He'll grill a great steak for you! We'll want to inviteJack,Linda,Monica, and Jamie as well!
We'll have an awesome evening!
Sweet Dreams,Fellow Bloggers!
Lucky Lady
Definitely could use that counter space especially when 30+ of my family members come for the holidays and reunions.
I think this Dream Home would be great for your party of 30+!!!
Wow! Harsh comments from DVL! Maybe a little "super fan" envy, eh? Don't worry Gail, DVL was just deleted from the guest list.
I, for one, liked the info-cam showing the storage area at the end of the island as well as how deep it is. Might be a good location for a future, second oven?
I hope you clicked on "thumbs down" for DVL's post.
Regards, H_S
I tried to but it gave me the message "I need to log in"? I'm logged in so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Thank you for sharing the same feeling I have though. We're obviously not alone because DVL has 4 thumbs down and 13 replies….HA! What an unkind jerk.
Have a great evening,
Andie
Sorry, it seems that you need to be logged into the Intense Debate system to be able to add a "thumbs" vote. Please forgive my ineptitude.
No worries…good word for the day…ineptitude…thank you for your thoughts.
H_S: Not logged in, but I gave DVL a piece of my mind. Whooops, I need that piece of my mind back. Thumbs down!!!!
I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE the kitchen! What a great area to cook & hang out with friends. Gail, feel free to stop by anytime. You're like an old friend.
I can't believe only 8 more days to enter. I have crossed everything I can cross!!
DVL…you have some issues……………:(
Best wishes to all.
I hope you clicked on "thumbs down" for DVL's post.
Regards, H_S
If I'm not mistaken, H_S, bloggers must be logged in to an Intensedebate account in order to give a thumbs up or down.
Thanks, Coop. I’m still learning! Your patience with a mere newbie is, once again, greatly appreciated.
H_S
Newbie? You? You wish!
Would love to winter in this lovely home when my husband and I retire. And look forward to meeting all the dream home team!
My wife and I typically visit Santa Fe at least once a year and we enjoy many of the art shops, restaurants and of course casinos, but we have not yet had a chance to enjoy the balloon festival in Albuquerque.
With that large island and all of that storage in the kitchen, it will be fun to cook and host parties. The rooms in the home have also been thoughtfully organized and the home appears to have been oriented to catch the morning sunrise (e.g., master bedroom and sunrise room) as well as provide shade during midday for the back patio. And yes Gail, you are invited for both dinner at the Dream Home as well as dinner in Santa Fe.
Gail of course you can come over to eat if my family wins and looks like with others as well!! thank you again for showing it all to us!!
I am curious as to the times listed after the screen name, and date. What time zone is the moderator in?
I have enjoyed Super Fan’s extra videos of the home. She shows the little nooks and crannies that you don’t see on the regular video.
Mary, thank you so much for the new blog and Gail, as always, you have done a wonderful job keeping everyone so excited! Now, with just one week left, my anticipation is growing every second! Gail, of course you and anyone from the Dream Home team would be welcome anytime if I was the lucky winner!!!
That kitchen is AMAZING! I LOVE the huge island. We cook dinner as a family every night and I love to entertain, we can picture ourselves there now! We already cook local New Mexican favorites at our place in Seattle such as Posole, Sopaipilla and Green Chile Burgers, it would be so much fun to expand our recipe collection with more local New Mexican favorites.
It would be so wonderful to have a kitchen with so much space and versatility.
Thanks Gail for the great video!
