  1. YAY! Now I know that the big reveal is getting closer! So, I would ask them…

Have you ever been on the blog and/or read the Dream Home blog?
How many times did you enter to win?
How had you heard about the contest?
    Favorite HGTV show?

Thanks Mary for the new thread!!!!!

    • yeah those are good ?'s!!

      starr112 on February 27, 2010 at 12:43 pm
    • Everyone feels as if they have the "one" strategy that will help them to become the winner. What was yours? and where will you put the Christmas tree?

      MoonChild690630 on February 28, 2010 at 5:49 am
      • The Christmas tree has to go in the entry hall.

Donna on March 1, 2010 at 9:12 pm
        • No, In the family room in front of the large picture window. What a beautiful site with the snow in the background.

Joanne on March 2, 2010 at 1:51 am
      • I entered every day with all of my email addresses & the one I created for my son too. I don't use all the other ones for anything else. Might as well have put them to use for something, right? If I win, no doubt the Christmas tree will go by the corner right in front of the window or center the huge window in the Great Room. I'd get a "Clark Griswald" Christmas tree but no worries on all the lights. I don't want that light bill, lol.

    • my question, not a reply, would be how many of you if homeowners , would give your home {you currently own, to someone in need? I definately would love to be able to do that. the sole reason for entering this contest! Kathleen in Pittsburgh:)))

kathleen on March 2, 2010 at 3:28 pm
      • My husband would still be living in this one since he's stationed here in the military & said he's in until he retires regardless. He understands my love for NM & the fact that he'll be getting orders to go back to NY where I don't plan to return but we'll decide what to do with our current house then. That is a good idea though.

Teresa Sousa on March 5, 2010 at 9:46 pm
    • I would ask, is this their first time owning a home?

diane on March 2, 2010 at 8:15 pm
    • Yes, everyday, by watching HGTV, design on a dime, sell this house, first time property buyers, etc….

Michelle on March 9, 2010 at 3:30 pm
    • Did you ever expect to win?

      I'll Win? on March 9, 2010 at 5:27 pm
      • OH, I know I am going to win.

photonature on March 12, 2010 at 8:12 pm
    • I would ask: Did you had a gut or feeling that you might be the winner?…

Andres on March 10, 2010 at 4:36 pm
    • What is your favorite HGTV show?
If the dream home you win doesn't work out, call Rita, ha ha.
When will your move in date be?
      Don't faint on us!
I think this is handpicked for you by God through HGTV.

Rita Purpura on March 12, 2010 at 12:20 am
    • Great questions. I think I would ask the winner what they will do first once they are in the house?

photonature on March 12, 2010 at 8:10 pm
    • those r great 1's

      starr112 on March 14, 2010 at 1:22 am
    • I would ask is this your dream ?

guinevere ryan on March 15, 2010 at 9:00 pm
    • This message may be in the wrong place, but I am so damn tired of people winning the dreamhouse who own beautiful houses!!! And another thing I live in Lake Charles,La and if this reveal is suppose to be live why is it dark, it's still daylight here!!! Maybe dreamhouse should stipulate nonowners as winners. It would make more sense to give those without a home a nice home, than to keep giving homes to home owners. That's all I have to say.

Robin Clark on March 16, 2010 at 12:37 am
  2. what was your reaction when you were told you won?

Sue on February 26, 2010 at 6:14 pm
    • Goullllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!! I'm blessed………. I need a good realator !

Donna on March 10, 2010 at 6:31 pm
    • I would thank God for brining me closer to my sister and giving me the oppeortunity to live my dream.

      Cathy P on March 10, 2010 at 7:17 pm
  3. What do you look forward to MOST (about the HGTV Dream Home and/or area) when you go visit YOUR new home for the first time!?!

    Lori M on February 26, 2010 at 6:16 pm
    • Just the fact that I am really able to finally live in New Mexico. I have been wanting to since we visited a Navy buddy of my husbands in 1978. My son went to UNM and now lives in Rio Rancho. Every time I visit him I look at houses, by work commitments and family responsibilities kept me on the east coast. Now that I am near retirement this is the perfect time for us.

Patricia Cubbage on March 1, 2010 at 8:51 pm
      • The climate is definitely better than the east coast. I grew up in NC & lived in NY for 3 yrs when my husband was stationed there and both are way too humid for my or my son's health especially NY where we even had to live in mold infested houses to make it even worse. Don't ever have to worry about that again in NY with the dry air out in NM. The views are spectacular too. I wore out my old camera on trips to NM alone & had to get another one. Imagine if I live out there.

Teresa Sousa on March 5, 2010 at 9:54 pm
    • The beauty and wonder of the mountains and the absolute freedom of living in a house with that much space and convenience and design. I have always loved the desert . My Dad & Mom crossed it many times with myself & my sisters & brother. We were taught to love it all. We saw the cactus bloom, I even have a hankerchief made from cactus that I bought from a souvenier store crossing the desert when I was eleven years old. I love Santa Fe and its mysteries and I remeber Albuqurque when I came through it as a child, the man made teepees for motels, the lights. I love it all. I would enjoy living there I know. While others see nothing but desert bleakness, I see beauty all around me. By Ruth Blue

Ruth Blue on March 2, 2010 at 4:08 am
      • Same here, Ruth. New Mexico is definitely God's country. I find the landscape far more interesting than anywhere I've ever been or lived.

Teresa Sousa on March 5, 2010 at 9:56 pm
    • Well, calling it my home is right up there with nature at it's best!!

Michelle on March 9, 2010 at 3:11 pm
    • I would be most excited about living closer to my sister. She has lived in Albuquerque for 20 years and I would be very happy to live near her and see her more often.

Cathy on March 10, 2010 at 7:13 pm
    • I would look forward to meeting all the people and sponsors and artists that pulled this house together. Also seeing if my husband can work in that beautiful kitchen.

      Cathy P on March 10, 2010 at 7:28 pm
    • The serene tranquitity of the desert-scape and all the wonderful new appliances, the radient floor heating, the low cost evaporative air system, the low maintenance gardening and the butler pantry!!!!

  4. How do you think your life will change by winning this MAGNIFICENT Dream Home?

Kim on February 26, 2010 at 6:22 pm
    • I'd be able to retire, and live closer to my son & his family.

Pat Cubbage on March 1, 2010 at 9:00 pm
    • I will finally be at peace with my surroundings and the nearby cities to explore. I absolutely love the house and the mountains.

ruth blue on March 2, 2010 at 4:11 am
    • Nobody would have to hear me say anymore that I wished I lived in NM but then they'd always have to hear me 365 days a year how great it is living there. I've always been interested in photography & they have wonderful photography workshops & adventures to do out there that can help me become alot better & hopefully start my own photography business. I love landscape photography more so maybe doing photographic books of NM landscapes. Plus, my 11-yr-old son has theatre talent as well as singing and that area is booming right now in theatre on/off screen and school programs in theatre & music.

Teresa Sousa on March 5, 2010 at 11:47 pm
    • For the better Kim, for the better!!

Michelle on March 9, 2010 at 3:14 pm
    • A long time prayer of a mortgage free home would have been answered and the financial struggle due to my husband's health would be over. I would be that much closer to my sister's and only 9 hrs. from my grandchildren!. The air there would be good for my husband's COPD.

      Rita

Rita Purpura on March 12, 2010 at 12:07 am
    • It will be a dream come true. I have wanted to move to NM for a long, long time. This will give me the opportunity

photonature on March 12, 2010 at 8:14 pm
  5. I would ask them to recap their thoughts and feelings during the wait period. Were they anxious? did there spouse or and friends keep the positive vibes going on their behalf? or did they roll their eyes every time the dream home was discussed as if it was already won? …and so on. I think that it would help everyone, including myself to know that anticipation on actually winning something of so much value. Both monetarily and well as the pure passion that is involved know that it is ok to feel this way and that "dreaming" is a good thing!

Cheri Whitaker on February 26, 2010 at 6:22 pm
    • It so true. When I tell people that I play HGTV dream home, and tell them to play too, they look at me like I am crazy. Or it is prohibit to talk about what you dream about.

Tatyal on February 26, 2010 at 8:08 pm
    • My thoughts exactly!!!

Robyn on February 26, 2010 at 10:21 pm
    • I like this question. I get huge "WHATEVERRRRRRRRR" eyes when i meantion that i play the HGTV DREAM HOME every year. Every acts as if the home is already won before the contest ever ends. I dream every year. One GLORIOUS YEAR it will be me!!!! I am thinking 2010………:-)

      Tarheel4life! on February 28, 2010 at 11:41 pm
    • O.K. That was exactly how I feel! The rolling the eyes subject was perfectly described!!! That made my day! LOL

    • dreaming is healthy, and part of the very fabric of who we are. When I dream for myself, I always envision who I can help if dreams came true!:))) Kathleen Pittsburgh

kathleen on March 2, 2010 at 3:33 pm
    • Wow do we have the same family and friends, lol My kids are as hopeful and excited as I am my hubby says yeah right you and everyone else. My friends and family think I am wasting my time. Well it is my time and to me dreaming is never a waste.

Crazyinlove on March 2, 2010 at 5:06 pm
      • That is so true. Hubby is ready for it to be over so I'll shutup but says God help him if I do win because I'll never shutup then. My son & I have already moved into the house, lol. People giggle when I tell them I hope I win but then they tell me I better invite them to visit if I do win. I have already planned to donate a large sum of money to cancer research which is my passion since we have lost so many loved ones in the past few years to cancer.

Teresa Sousa on March 5, 2010 at 11:54 pm
    • I hoped everyday to be the winner, my husband was always positive and dreams do come true Cheri! Dream on!!!

Michelle on March 9, 2010 at 3:15 pm
  6. What are you doing in my home? (Just kidding…well, maybe not!)
Seriously, how does it feel to be living in a dream?

Nena on February 26, 2010 at 6:27 pm
  7. First, I would say CONGRATULATIONS for winning the HGTV Dream Home 2010. My question would be "Do you plan to live in your gorgeous home or take the money $1.5 million?"

SnowChic on February 26, 2010 at 6:28 pm
    • I would definately live in it! I took the tour today and it is even better than what the videos show. It is warm and welcoming with a feeling of intimacy and the setting is divine! I've lived in Santa Fe for 25 years and I've dreamed of being able to build a home in just this area. I hope that whoever wins actually wants to live in it. It deserves to go to someone who has spent time dreaming of it and wanting to be there.

Delta on February 27, 2010 at 8:20 am
      • "It deserves to go to someone who has spent time dreaming of it and wanting to be there." Interesting statement, Delta. It fits anyone who entered the contest.

Lessie on February 27, 2010 at 1:33 pm
        • That's why I entered & probably most entrants but I bet also entered for just the money. For me, no matter what size or style the house is or it's worth, it would be a dream come true for me to live in NM but this house definite is a HUGE plus. I have taken the tour every day at least once a day.

Teresa Sousa on March 5, 2010 at 10:07 pm
          • Is there a bathroom for the office?????

Helen on March 7, 2010 at 7:42 pm
    • I plan on living there and can not wait to pack my bags, golf clubs and ski's . And leave my old car behind !

Joanne on March 2, 2010 at 1:58 am
    • Oh I would not want the money. I want the home. But it will be nice to know what the winner thinks.

I have a question though If the winner takes the money instead of the house would they run another sweepstakes on it or sell it? What would happen to that beautiful house.

Crazyinlove on March 2, 2010 at 5:11 pm
      • Crazyinlove….I agree with you. I would want the home too! If the winner decides to take the money instead of the house, HGTV will not run another sweepstakes. I read in the Dream Home Blog that either the Builder or Developer buys back the house. I don't remember which one. I hope this helps.

SnowChic on March 3, 2010 at 9:08 pm
        • I saw that too. I hope if I, or anyone else who has dreamed of this house every day of the sweepstakes, win it that no matter how much they love it, to accept it with responsibility as well as excitemement so it doesn't become a financial burden because they blew all the money foolishly on other stuff that was to help them live the dream of living in the house. My husband is mad at me because I told him he's not spending all MY money on expensive sports cars & guns. That's where people screw up.

Teresa Sousa on March 5, 2010 at 10:12 pm
    • I am so in it for the house. I would love a fresh start in New Mexico with beautiful scenery while being able to enjoy such a wonderful house. I can already imagine inviting my family and relatives for long stays. Even though I love California, I would definitely love to transplant myself to New Mexico!

Kay on March 8, 2010 at 8:26 am
    • I will live in this home till the day I die, it's MY home forever!!

Michelle on March 9, 2010 at 2:42 pm
  8. That's funny :) And you are right, it would probably feel like you were living in a dream for quite a few days/weeks.

    Lori M on February 26, 2010 at 6:31 pm
  9. I would ask the winner to recap their feelings during this waiting period. Were they CRAZY with anticipation? Did the have full support from family and friends or were eyes rolled every time the dream home was mentioned? Did they REALLY think that they would win? What are their thoughts in regards to relocating? I think that the winners responses to these questions would insure everyone, myself included, that it is OKAY to be positive and dream BIG even if those you love don't want to play with you. And…I would ask if they will be hiring a house sitter! Then give them my references RIGHT AWAY!!!!

Cheri Whitaker on February 26, 2010 at 6:35 pm
    • I tell you this blog sure helps with the wait.

Crazyinlove on March 2, 2010 at 5:13 pm
      • It certainly does because I read how excited everyone else is too.

Teresa Sousa on March 5, 2010 at 11:59 pm
  10. Will you marry me?, is my first thought.
I would ask them if they have thought of a name for their new casa.

    J.S. on February 26, 2010 at 6:37 pm
  11. Yes, Congratulations! And my question would be what is the first meal you'll cook in that beautiful kitchen?

Betty on February 26, 2010 at 6:39 pm
    • Yes! That is what I was thinking, when I wrote my question. Part of MY answer would be "can't wait to have a celebration and use that wonderful kitchen!". The first was, putting the key in the door :)

      Lori M on February 26, 2010 at 8:28 pm
      • Hi Lori, Great question and answers! And you are so right…putting the key in the door for the first time, what a thrill and forever amazing memory that would be!

Betty on February 27, 2010 at 7:14 pm
    • Great question!!!!

Tiffany on February 26, 2010 at 9:52 pm
    • Hi Betty, adisneyfamily asked bloggers that question. If you want to be entertained, read the answers she received.

Lessie on February 27, 2010 at 1:37 pm
      • Hi Lessie, Thanks for letting me know! I will have to find that post to check out the answers. My thought on a first meal would be to make something like steak and shrimp with roasted chilis from the area on that cool outside "barbie" along with some delicious side dishes cooked inside on those top-of-the line Wolf appliances. They really do spare no expense on everything in the dream homes. Really love those appliances …and well, everything else in the home too! : ) Isn't this just the most fun thing to be a part of every year?

Betty on February 27, 2010 at 7:44 pm
        • Sounds like a great first meal to me, Betty. Yes, like you, I believe this is one of the most wholesome and fun events ever.

Lessie on February 28, 2010 at 12:32 am
    • Tortilla Soup made with fresh local ingredients

Megan on March 1, 2010 at 2:33 am
    • Great question Betty my first meal would be just for my family and it would have to be homemade fried tacos. Our favorite.

But after that it would be a dinner for all. Probably steak as that is our second favorite.

Crazyinlove on March 2, 2010 at 5:17 pm
    • GREAT question! I'll be cooking something simple.. But it will be followed by a FABULOUS wine!!!

      B Jill on March 2, 2010 at 6:42 pm
    • My son is a great cook we will cook the family a fish fry

      Thanks
      Mike D. live in Wisc.

      Mike D. on March 7, 2010 at 1:53 am
    • The first meal will probably be breakfast since the night before was catered!!

Michelle on March 9, 2010 at 2:52 pm
  12. I truly think so too, I think , … it 's going to be hard to even believe ,if you did Win! that the Dream team is really standing in front of you.

    Ali B on February 26, 2010 at 6:41 pm
  13. Do you have to live in the Dream Home, is there a cash equivilant? I am just curious. If I won I would want to move there yesterday, but wondering what if any options are available, does the winner HAVE to live in the house for a certain amount of time? etc. Nothing in the rules I read about this.

    Linda C on February 26, 2010 at 6:50 pm
    • No you do not have to live in it But what I read some of the past winners went there with HGTV the first time like they show on t.v and stay for a couple weeks and HGTV takes them on tours and they say it is a lot of excitement and then do the paperwork and after you have the auto and home and cash you can do whatever you want One family did that and decided to go back to their home state. I do not know what they would do if the winner decides first thing not to take the home I do know that it will still be the same prize amount that you will win and it's up to the winner to make the decision. HGTV helps you all the way.

      melissa_again on February 27, 2010 at 8:10 am
    • I remember a couple years ago it said you had to live in the dream home for at least two years before selling it!

hgtvfan on February 27, 2010 at 5:32 pm
      • No…. You do not have to live in the dream home. You were probably thinking of a tax credit for living in it for two years before selling (1031 exchange). Though, that is not actually correct either, because this is a sweepstakes, not a purchase. (taxes are paid on the 2million and if you make more you would be able to transfer to the 1031 exchange to use on a new purchase/but, would speak with a RE Broker and Tax Attorney) You can sell the home as soon as the paper work is completed and this year the developer has actually stated that they will do a buy-back, which helped win HGTV over to their location. There have been a few that have tried to live in the home, eventually selling. HGTV will give you advice and then instruct you to hire a professional to help with the decisions, taxes, etc. Hope this helps.

reneelovesgreen on February 27, 2010 at 6:13 pm
    • I would definitely live in this home. My family and I are already planning a move to NM so I'm really hoping, praying I win!!!!

Jennifer Delacruz on March 2, 2010 at 4:31 pm
  14. I've actually thought about the latter question.

I can't quite come up with anything better than casa. Because I would want to think of it as my home.

    • Hey Alib, I join Coop in welcoming you as an 'official" ID blogger! As much time as you spend here, may as well be official.

Lessie on February 27, 2010 at 1:42 pm
    • Hey there! Glad to see that you're on ID!!!

I thought it would be an easy fix by modifying your 'screen name' a bit! Great!
      H_S

      Heritage_Seeker on February 27, 2010 at 11:24 pm
      • AliB and H_S, I have followed Lessie's instructions for intense debate, and I log on, but when I try to give a thumbs up or down, the little window pops up saying, "You must be logged on to vote." I must be numb as a hake (as they say in Maine), because I just can't seem to get it right. Any suggestions? It wouldn't take DebbieFlorida as the screen name, but would take my email address and my "secret" ID.

DebbieFlorida on February 28, 2010 at 8:26 pm
        • I think you need to modify your screen nams slightly, like, 'Debbie_Florida' — add the undescore, "_" or 'DebbieFlorida2' — try one of those! Good luck!

          H_S

          Heritage_Seeker on March 1, 2010 at 12:53 am
        • Since your name isn't clickable, when you posted this, you weren't logged in. Sometimes you need to log out and then login again for intensedebate to really think you're logged in.

  19. Um…these are the questions to ask when they film them being told they are the winner…so, you'll see the reaction right then.

adisneyfamily on February 26, 2010 at 7:17 pm
  20. Are you ok? Take a deep breath and breathe. Definitely give the winner a chance to stop screaming before any guestions ?????????????? are asked. I compared winning the dream home to winning a grammy,a golden globe,Oscar, the super bowl, and lets not forget a Relly award. Oh! and one of the questions they ask every body who wins BIG. What do you plan to do now that you have won? I plan to go to Walt Disney World of course. I would want to go to Disney land too since I'm so excited. But first I have to see all of the attractions in New Mexico. What do you plan to do since you have won? Move in. What room in the house is your favorite and why?

Kathy Diane on February 26, 2010 at 7:17 pm
    • Yes indeed , I would like to go somewhere , but , first ,I think i would check into the nicest hotel in my area, that has everything , heated pool, and get a massage, I think all of us here sure could use one from all the blogging , lol and then try to let it all sink in, and think of all the places I'd like to see , I've never seen anything so the choices are open,

AliB on February 26, 2010 at 8:46 pm
    • For starters, the great room is my favorite because just look out those windows at that spectacular view. Second, go to Hawaii or Alaska.

Teresa Sousa on March 5, 2010 at 10:25 pm
    • I am happy to have won, I will check out my neighborhood, neighbors, I won't have time to vacation and my favorite room is all of them!!

Michelle on March 9, 2010 at 3:13 pm
  21. My question would be what is your favorite room or feature in the Dream Home and why?

    Wyo_Girl on February 26, 2010 at 7:17 pm
    • The master bed room with the private sitting room. I would love to sit there and watch the sun set with the fire place going

Joanne on March 2, 2010 at 2:01 am
    • The chair next to the floor to ceiling windows where you can read and look at the mountains. Also the wonderful garage with the large glass roll-up door, and the kitchen, wow, I love to cook. Also the outdoor patio where you can watch the sun go down and come-up again. The casita for family members to visit us. The walks over the desert itself. It is all wonderful. ruthblue

  22. First Congradulations would be in order ! Then my question " What part really made you fall in love with this Dream home and what is the first room or area of the Dream home do you want to see? I know mine but i will save sharing that for later.

Rosie on February 26, 2010 at 7:17 pm
    • Breath taking …a home that could be for many people ..( the family )……I would walk over to the kitchen and then the out door stoves to think about cooking for a large group (Family)….The kitchen is the place most of our family would hang out in ………Thanks Nic .

Nicole on March 9, 2010 at 12:58 am
    • The part that made me fall in love was the area, natures beauty in all it's glory. I want to walk into the master sitting area and pinch myself at the thought of waking up to these glorious views on a daily basis…

  24. Mary….Please don't ask my question because I think its to personal for someone who just won the HGTV Dream Home 2010. I guess I wrote the first question that passed through my mind. Mary, I should have put on my "reporter's hat and think about for a bit". Thank you for the advice.

SnowChic on February 26, 2010 at 7:25 pm
    • I think for me if I were to win would have to be the reality of whether it was going to be a dream or a financial burden. Although there are a few things I'd love to personalize it with to make it 100% my dream home, it's an awesome house. Who wouldn't want to keep it?

Teresa Sousa on March 5, 2010 at 10:00 pm
  25. I'll ditto that question. I'm really interested to see if the actual winner will actually take residence in the home. I'm curious as to the percentage of people who entered with the plan of actually taking residence.

knjmom on February 26, 2010 at 7:25 pm
    • I am definitely entiring to win. I would love for my family to live somewhere different. The adventure attracts me. As well as the beautiful surroundings, the interior of the home is as breathtaking as he exterior. Oh and who could forget…….NO MORE MORTGAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOO HOOOO!!!!!!

      • I agree, this place is livable. The other years homes were so huge…. little unrealistic to really live there… Imagine the cleaning.

mzfox on March 1, 2010 at 4:27 am
      • Just taxes & HOA fees but if you use the $500,000 responsibly & not as a fool putting aside huge portion & keeping out maybe $100,000 for personal or daily spending, hopefully you should be fine.

Teresa Sousa on March 5, 2010 at 10:03 pm
  26. I agree with Lynn…my question would probably be how involved they were with the contest- how many time or how often did they enter and were they involved with the blog or message boards on hgtv that discussed the dream home?

My other thought…which is just light conversational…is if they know who they are taking with them to the winner's weekend at the home.

Another possibility would be what made them decide to enter the sweepstakes?

adisneyfamily on February 26, 2010 at 7:26 pm
  27. Kathy Diane, so true, so true about THIS being compared to winning a grammy, golden globe, Oscar….etc. Which I know nothing how that feels either. LOL And yes, Disney WORLD is where I'd like to go…..AFTER checking out some of the attractions in New Mexico. Can we say MAJOR Vacation! Yes, we can. LOL

    Oh no….still dreaming.

knjmom on February 26, 2010 at 7:28 pm

  30. My Question to the DREAM HOUSE WINNER would be….."SO…., after ALL the 'HYPE and HOOPLA,' and whenBall the BRIGHT LIGHTS and CAMERAS, HGTV STAFF are gone, what is the first thing that you will do when you are alone in your NEW DREAM HOME?!?? "

Terry on February 26, 2010 at 7:29 pm

    • Probably go to the bathroom a million times from all the excitement, lol. Probably the first thing would be have my husband cook something up on the grill while watching my son & two dogs playing in the backyard. I'd probably spend all night awake too scared when I woke up it would all be just a dream. If I found out the taxes were going to be too high to enjoy without all the financial stress to ruin the excitement, I'd do cash option to buy/build a less expensive home but still in New Mexico. I love NM & have dreamed of living there since I was a little girl. I made it from NC to TX. Now time to become a New Mexican…lol.

i think the absolute first thing i would do is just sit right there on the floor in front of the door looking at this amazing house that i'd dreamt about for months and just cry lol to be completely honest….that is if i had any tears left to cry after all that lol….

good luck everyone! God willing, one of us bloggers (maybe even me lol) will win and we can sign on after the cameras are gone and tell everyone what we ended up doing!!! lol

  31. I don't believe the winner is required to assume residency at all. I believe other posters have found verbage that the developer has agreed to buy the house for $1.5million should the winner choose not to take residency.

knjmom on February 26, 2010 at 7:29 pm
    • Where is this stated?

      ~OKay~ on February 26, 2010 at 9:26 pm
      • I don't believe any of the previous Dream Home winners have actually resided in the homes so it's definitely not a requirement; also would be unreasonable for HGTV to expect every winner to be able to pick up their lives and move to a new location.

In one of the previous threads, someone posted a link to an article regarding the builder's lien against the house, which stemmed from the builder backing out of the deal, and apparently leaving the burden solely to the developer, to buy back the house from the winner at $1.5 million. I don't know exactly where that post is at this point, but if I can find it again, I'll repost the link here.

Teresa Sousa on March 5, 2010 at 7:59 pm
      • Thank you for responding and sharing with me. My the biggest dream (besides Dream Home) is to have my OWN home and money. When my mom divorsed my father, we did not have house and money, but we were happy to be free of my father. Later after 9 years my mom bought an apartment with 1little kitchen, 1little bedroom and a bathroom. It was a miracle for us. So now I wish to have my own.

    Rhonda S on February 26, 2010 at 7:50 pm
    • This is a super question. I love it! It will elicit the winner's true feelings about this tremendous opportunity. Winning the dream home is truly a life changing event. As I've read a few responses to some of your questions, this one asks the winner the most important question of all: How will it CHANGE your life? Will you uproot and move? Will you be coming home to New Mexico? Will take the money and run? I hope that this is the question that is selected. Interesting answers await.

  39. Do you know, with 3900 square feet, ambient floor heating, and two laundry rooms, because of the solar cells installed on the house you may not have an electric bill at all?! How do you respond to that beautiful tidbit of information?

Dawn Anderson on February 26, 2010 at 8:05 pm
    • I think that is one of the most important considerations…but then here in So. Calif during the energy crisis a few years ago my home bill went to approx $900/mo and my biz went approx $7k/mo and I almost lost them then.

lee perry on February 27, 2010 at 2:11 am
      • Too bad something like utilities almost caused you such loss but then that must've been a manufacturing business to rack up a 7k/mo bill. I can't even imagine a $900 home bill. I live in 350 square foot flat and utilities are included.
Yeah, the solar aspect is one of my favorite features in the dream home because I would live in it and work in Albuquerque. If I win I'll kiss the designers for that one, even if I needed to add additional solar cells. Imagine getting a check from the utility every month!

Dawn Anderson on February 27, 2010 at 8:28 am
        • My thoughts exactly. We need to do everything we can to protect our enviornment, plus get paid for if…what a deal.

kat swain on March 1, 2010 at 10:35 pm

Teresa Sousa on March 6, 2010 at 12:20 am
    • Dawn,
My best estimate of annual savings from the 4 kW solar array at 2010 DH is: $ 635.
      Using:
      PVWatt v1 calculator for Albuquerque
      6726 kWh/year or 561 kWh/month
      PNM rate schedule
      200 kWh x 7.33 ¢/kWh ÷ 100 ¢/$ = $ 14.66
      361 kWh x 10.60 ¢/kWh ÷ 100 ¢/$ = $ 38.27
      Total = $ 52.93 per month

I think you'll still have an electric bill!

      Heritage_Seeker on February 27, 2010 at 11:35 pm
      • Okey Doke, I found the video of Gail speaking on the electric bill. http://www.hgtv.com/videos/green-dream/44354.html
Dangit! That was my favorite feature of dream home 2010! Builders must've changed their minds on the solar install. There must be room for more solar panels and with that maybe one could get that electric bill reduced more than just $50/mo. Heritage Seeker, can you direct me to the page where Gail blogged on the solar specs? I haven't come across it.

Dawn Anderson on February 28, 2010 at 6:59 pm
    • That is one of the big reasons I would love to win. Having nature take care of our power consumption plus the beautiful area, art history, and the HOUSE, WOW!!! Just think about living in that house and looking out those windows or strolling out into the yard. Gives anyone a chill, warm one that is.

  41. Questions for the DREAM HOME Winner: (1) "How are going to be able to sleep tonight?" (2) "Did you have any inkling before now that something was up?" (3) "Did you tell your friends and family that you entered the HGTV DH Sweepstakes?" (4) "Who is the first person that you would like to tell that YOU WON?" (5) "What unique features about this year's HGTV DH do you like the most?" (6) "Have you ever visited New Mexico before?" (7) "Is there anything you would really like to see or do (besides seeing the HGTV Dream Home) during the Winner's Weekend?" (8) "What are some of your favorite ways to spend your free time?" …. that's probably more than enough questions for now, LOL! • Definitely not bad at all. Years ago I worked at a beach condo resort in NC & I think they had to pay $1000/month.

    • Imagine that you are the designer, architect builder, and that all dreams in this master building exercise are possible. Put yourself in the home, in a special room that you love in the house, and have a dream about what you would be doing, what it would look like and feel like for you to have ownership of something you really enjoy. Just enjoy the moment, and the satisfaction of desire.
