While We Wait

Good day, bloggers.

I hope you’re not suffering from boredom. A watched pot never boils, so we must keep busy.

I’ve included pictures that showcase the HGTV Dream Play Home. My handsome hubby, who stands 6’1” tall, gives you perspective on the play home’s size. I think the interior is adorable! I also couldn’t resist “cooking” in that amazing gourmet kitchen.

For those curious about the sound system in this year’s HGTV Dream Home, it’s controlled by a small touch-screen monitor in the home theater. (The stand stays in the theater, but the actual device can travel throughout the home.) It’s one of those extra-special touches that make HGTV Dream Home 2010 incredible.

Many folks have asked how long it takes for the winner to receive his or her keys once the HGTV Dream Home 2010 Giveaway show airs. Plan on approximately six to seven weeks.

Your Super Fan,
Gail

    • Hi bloggers,
I to was curious about the playhouse and almost forgot about it but thanks Gail for giving us closer look. Gail will you be taking us to the event where the dream home winner gets picked like you did last time? Can't wait to see the winners reaction this time around and wonder if it will be a lucky couple or a single Mom or Dad. Keep those blogs coming…..

    • Wyo_Girl, I was first to comment once; and let me tell you, it can be a curse.
Many bloggers posted their comments, about the main topic, on my 'first post!' I started getting emails that made no sense until I figured that out.

      • H_S, you are so right — that's already happening. My email is going to be full. Never again will I post first!

  2. My kids are grown but I could see that being uses as an artist studio for me since I stand only 5'1" tall. I would be perfect and so much fun and inspiring.

Vicki Glover on March 1, 2010 at 3:55 pm
    • I'm in the same situation and with all those beautiful views, there is no lack of inspiration. I thought I could maybe plumb and get electricity into that little house and have a dark room. WOW! How fun that would be.

  3. Hi Gail, thanks for the new post. Love the way you give us more insight into the Dream Home via personal touches. Many thanks to your husband for helping us visualize the height of the playhouse. Looks like you're ready to cook. 4. The Play House looks like the perfect spot for play of any sort! Painting, crafting, scrap booking……

Nena on March 1, 2010 at 4:01 pm
    • That is a terrific idea about using the PlayHouse for a Scrapbooking Haven, when my grandchildren are not visiting. Then I can use the office for writing books and doing taxes etc.

    • Wow! I never thought of that! I was wondering where I could put my darkroom!

  5. Good Morning Super Fan Gail: Thank you for another fabulous post. You look stunning in that GREAT kitchen, and I can see how no one could resist “cooking” in it with all the gourmet amenities!! And, with that said, there is no way we could be suffering from boredom. My pot is boiling over with excitement and anticipation for this year's Dream Home!!!

Thank you for including pictures that showcase the HGTV Dream Play Home. And, your hubby that stands 6’1” tall is very handsome, and he does give way to the perspective on the play home’s size. The playroom's interior is absolutely adorable, and would attract any child with its detail!

  6. Did they pick the winner already?

Lee on March 1, 2010 at 4:06 pm
    • The potential Grand Prize Winner will be selected in a random drawing from among all eligible entries received during the entire Sweepstakes Period on or about March 2, 2010 by Ritway, Inc., an independent judging organization ("Sweepstakes Administrator"). The odds of winning the Grand Prize depends upon on the number of eligible entries received for the entire Sweepstakes Period.

reneelovesgreen on March 1, 2010 at 4:15 pm
      • Reneelovesgreen, Show Me hasn't been contacted yet to help conduct the winner's drawing. Do you think there's any chance HGTV will be calling him into service at this point?

DBCoop on March 1, 2010 at 4:42 pm
        • I think that we will have to start the campaign for next year!!! Darn…

reneelovesgreen on March 1, 2010 at 6:35 pm
      • Is the winner notified right away or notified when everyone else finds out who the winner is on the show?

Deirdre on March 2, 2010 at 1:21 am
        • The winner will be ambushed anytime from now thru a couple days before the March 15 revealing. They will have to have time to accept, sign papers, and get flown to the revealing show.

          Michele with 1 L on March 2, 2010 at 2:15 am
      • What exactly does "potential" winner mean??

Jen on March 2, 2010 at 5:12 am
        • Your background check is clean for serious felony, you are selected in the drawing, you sign the papers that you accept the rules (listed in the rules section of sweepstakes) and you reply within the amount of time they require (as stated in the rules), you could be a winner.

Charmayne on March 2, 2010 at 7:13 am

That playhouse is so awesome for the kids to have fun! We're looking forward to seeing Alice and Wonderland in 3D on Friday… Who knows, maybe we'll end up playing with our kids in the playhouse someday… =)

  9. Hi Gail & Hi Lessie just to say glad to see you again and I think my who 9 would LOVE the playhouse I know I would too. The time is coming and I feel more relaxed about it now than I did the last day to enter HAHA
LOL can't explain the supersticious feeling I have. Gail you seem to be really busy in the kitchen I would be a better cook if I had a kitchen like this one I LOVE everything about the pueblo in NM.

    melissa_again on March 1, 2010 at 4:08 pm
  10. Continuing…..

Also, thank you for elaboring on the sound system in this year’s HGTV Dream Home! WOW! Being controlled by a small touch-screen monitor in the home theater is fantastic. Especially since the device can travel throughout the home! How devine is that?

I have to tell you, I was surprised how long it takes for the winner to receive his or her keys once the HGTV Dream Home 2010 Giveaway show airs. I guess I thought the recipient would receive keys immediately and there would not be any wait! WOW! Planning on approximately six to seven weeks to receive the keys would have be crazy. Would the winner be allowed to stay at the home even though they have not yet received the keys? 'Cause I have to tell you, my bags are packed and ready to move in!!

Marie Miller on March 1, 2010 at 4:11 pm
  11. I would say the winner has been picked seeing it takese seven or six weeks for them to get the keys an they hand them the keys on the show .. is this true ?

Sue on March 1, 2010 at 4:12 pm
    • They know from having past dream home giveaways approximately how long it takes to execute the paper work. The statement has nothing to do having selected a winner. The selection will most likely happen this week, and then they'll work out how to surprise the winner on film in time for the television special to air on time March 15th.

      dreamn_again on March 1, 2010 at 4:43 pm
    • Sue, I peeked at Gail's note, above, it reads: "Many folks have asked how long it takes for the winner to receive his or her keys once the HGTV Dream Home 2010 Giveaway show airs. Plan on approximately six to seven weeks." If you read it again, she says it is ONCE THE HGTV DREAM HOME SHOW AIRS, the winner receives the keys in approximately six to seven weeks. So, we all still have a chance… keep your fingers crossed!

Jan of FL on March 1, 2010 at 5:12 pm
      • From what I understand is our chances of winning is lost on March 2 that is when they will draw the winner. The winner will be notified on March 14 to prepare for the airing on March 15 So if your not ambushed on March 14 you'll know you didn't win and we'll have to tune in on March 15 to find out who the lucky winner is. At least this is how I understand it to work. Plus they have to do a background check on the winner which could take several weeks so I do understand why it would take 6 to 7 weeks before the winner would actually get the keys. Good luck to everyone!!!!!

Crazyinlove on March 1, 2010 at 6:43 pm
        • From what I understand….and I don't think any of us TRULY knows… :) ….the drawing takes place sometime soon, then, the ambush takes place shortly after and the winner is flown to the location of the Dream Home. My guess is that it all takes place well before the show aires. If you recall form last year, the giveway aires on the 15th, but they had footage of the family at home at night and day AND at the dream home. That would be alot for one day! It is all pre-recorded. That is what I get out of it, anyway. I am thinking that if you are not ambushed by the 9th, or so, your chance is over. But, who knows. :) Unless it happens to one of us, we will never know for sure! :)

uggins ogg on March 1, 2010 at 8:37 pm
          • The winner's first trip to the dream home is usually a month after the television special airs showing them as the announced winner.

            dreamn_again on March 2, 2010 at 1:21 am
        • That's what I think too. They give themselves enough time that IF whomever is chosen ont he 2nd does not pass the background and eligibility requirements, they can still pick another, then another, if necessary. And the rules clearly state the winner will be notified by "ambush" and be taped to air on the show. Good luck to all!

Jenna on March 2, 2010 at 6:56 pm
    • As I have answered before, if you read the HGTV interview with the 2002 winner, he states what Gail says…the 6-7 weeks is after you find out. There will be the winner'sweekwnd at the house at which they give you the info and then once you decide if you are taking the house, there will be several more weeks for drawing up all of the legal papers.

adisneyfamily on March 2, 2010 at 4:15 am
      • That makes total sense to me. I think when you watch the winner's weekend, handing them the keys is just for television. Once the papers are official, then the real key handing-over ceremony takes place :)

        Lori M on March 2, 2010 at 7:30 pm
    • I don't think they would want to air a show awarding the $2million prize to someone who cannot qualify to pay all the taxes and costs associated with winning!! So once you have been announced on the March 15th show then on to credit approval and agreement of the terms before you can receive the keys — thus 6-8 weeks! Remember the winner must sign the transfer papers for the house, pay all the taxes associated. Then arrange to pick up the GMC Terrain pay all the taxes, this is a gated community so you have all the fees associated with a private community that have to be paid. And as with anything else — no money no keys!!! By the way taxes on $2million could be around $750K!!

reality check on March 2, 2010 at 7:49 pm
      • Is that true. Is there a chance that even if you win, you may not be able to get it because you have bad credit or not enough money????

Jamie on March 3, 2010 at 5:03 am
        • No, it's not. Some people are just trying to get people all excited, as if awaiting the dream home reveal isn't exciting enough. The background check is not for your credit approval, it's to make sure you are eligible according to the rules (e.g. you do not work for a sponsor, you are a citizen of the US, you are of age, etc.) Don't worry — enjoy this dream!

          Wyo_Girl on March 3, 2010 at 3:12 pm

    • Last evening, my brother called, during our conversation…HE mentioned how awessome the Dream Home was and when he thought the winner was to be notified. I was shocked! I don't even keep tabs when the winner will be notified….I figure they'll know when they know. Of course….I have mentioned Dream Homes before and got a little interest out of him. So …was a bit surprised to find out he was interested in this one. He was talking about when to enter…..UH????? Time was up for this one. He assured me his wife had gotten their entries in. Good thing she was up on this! So….to make sure he was MORE knowledgable about HGTV/Scripps wonderful HOMES……I bent his ear about the GH & the Blog Cabin. He probably wished he had never even mentioned it to me LOL
Wishing everyone excitement as we continue to wait. I figure….I'll check out the other homes in the meantime. ;)

  22. Hi Gail, you are so great for giving us more pics and information for all of us "I'm curious" bloggers. Thanks to your terrific husband for "standing by" and giving us more of a perspective of the dreamy playhouse … I'm loving the idea of the Wonderland playhouse more and more, even though my daughter has almost grown up. I love the whimsical murals and seems like such a special place to imagine, daydream and play like a kid again. So thanks again for the smiles you give us, you're the best!

  23. Hi Gail,
What did you cook in that beautiful kitchen and how many guest did you feed? I'll bet your husband enjoyed playing with all the gadgets the home offers. Did you have music playing, and what was playing for your guest or could it have possibly been a romantic evening with just you and your husband? You know inquiry minds do want to know.

We cannot have cats or dogs (allergies… ); so, having a place for the nieces and nephews to play would be so much more useable for us. And, everyone we know who has dogs keep them inside.

I thought of some other uses for the playhouse… how about holiday decoration storage; a place for the husband to sleep (when he is in the doghouse); or, guest quarters for visiting dogs and cats (must add a very comfortable bed for them).

  27. Well whenever the new winner finds out he or she is the winner I sure hope its me and my family of 12!

  28. It is a lot taller than I thought! I assumed it was a mini play house where you would have to duck if you weren't a kid… Good to know! As a kid I had to share my tree house with 5 other siblings, so this play house will hopefully be all mine! ha ha

  29. i know i know!!! i can't help but check on the blog often!! This is a hard wait. The playroom is so fun and I wish we were with you cooking in the kitchen, sipping on wine, margaritas or sangria, enjoying the beautiful views. Thanks for helping us stay in the present with the blog posts

  30. It is very nice house. Love it. This winter vacation I visited my daughter living in Nevada…it is actually nice to see the desert, the mountains with snow on tops, the vegetation. The weather was just perfect. This is similar in Dream house location.
If I would be the lucky one, I could take my mom there and take care of her, I would be closer to my 2 daughters living in west coast ( my other daughter is moving to CA…I am so heartbroken to have my kids so far…) but…I can just dream about it….
Whoever wins it I wish them good luck and pleasant living…I just wish it could be me this time…

  31. Does anyone know if it would be against the building requirements or "rules" to screen enclose the back patio from the playhouse to the sitting area to make it more "indoor pet" friendly?

PMadsen on March 1, 2010 at 5:30 pm
    • P…go to the san pedro overlook website and check out their rules. It will also give you the location of the home. Good luck!

  32. I love the little play house outside. My 3 year daughter would just LOVE it and have a ball. I love the house but that's one thing I found a little weird they have a little boy kid room and a little girl play house. BUt it's still perfect and a easy fix. I so wish I win this house.. I see happy days and evenings out back. This house has everything for everyone in this family of 6.

Question: I don't know if it was address in an older post. But are dogs allowed? I know it's a gated commuity and they soemtimes have strict rules. I ask because I noticed that this year HGTV unlike the past years don't have a dog house. I would hate to have to sell this home because of that.. my dog is family, we had her for 5 years Sorry but like my kids I would not give her up.

Jane on March 1, 2010 at 5:35 pm
    • I am also wondering about if a Dog is allowed….good luck :)

  33. RE: Olympics.

Except for the tragedy, the Olympics were grand and memorable, as usual! I love the pageantry, the back stories, the events, and the insight surrounding the local culture!

Now it’s time to move on.
I’m looking forward to Russia for the next Winter Games!
Just think, tomorrow is March 2nd. The ‘On or About’ day for the DH drawing!

    • I'm presently watching the Bachelor finally and I am sooooooo sadddd because Jake just let the BEST GIRL TENNALY GO! I can't believe it. Not sure yet if he will chose Vivvian yet though, I sure hope not. What a mistake that would be. I wonder if Ali will end up showing up again? Who knows.?

      Michele with 1 L on March 2, 2010 at 2:57 am
      • NOOOOOOOOO! I can't belive Jake just did pick Vianna. Can you believe that???? I gues his lack of dating has blinded his senses. I hate divorce and I can not imagine this relationship lasting. I pray he will be enlightened before a marriage would actually happen.

  34. i feel like my soul is about to pop! i have been looking at pictures and videos, and imagining my life there for so long now i've created a whole new world in my head! my poor fiance must think im crazy ;) we are currently planning a house hunting trip to albuquerque (my fiance starts his new job on the base on april 19th! so soon!) and i told him we need to schedule it for after the 15th because i don't want to miss the ambush team! besides, who needs a house hunting trip when you have just won the coolest home ever! is it crazy that i am already imaging where i will place some of our stuff in the house? ;) i fall asleep every night to "…this will go here, and this will fit perfectly there, and oh this matches that so well…" in my head.

  35. That play house is so nice. When I have grandchildren they would love playing in there. The first movie I plan to watch at the HGTV dream home is Alice In Wonderland and I can't wait to learn how to use that sound system. The house warming popcorn machine sure would come in handy. I bet music sounds great in the house,. Gail I was hoping to see you at my front door, but it looks like you are still in New Mexico. I hope I win so you can come over, cook, and visit. I hope I get to meet you. Thankyou for the thread.

    • Anyone know yet what the winning gifts are yet after the voting was done? Or will they reveal this during the revealing?

      Michele with 1 L on March 2, 2010 at 3:09 am
  36. WOW! I think the playhouse looks rather large. I have 2 boys, so I 'm not sure what I would do with it though.
I suppose I would use it as a rather fancy gardening shed!
Thanks Gail! We all love to see new blogs while we wait!

  37. Hi there GAIL and thank you so very much for the new photos. The playhouse looks dreamy! It was nice to see your handsome husband enjoying as well.

Love when you give us new info to ponder! :)

  38. Hi Super fan Gail and all you super fans out there. I am a new super fan. I feel so foolish as this has been going on for years but I just recently found out about this great give a way and the awesome shows on HGTV. Yes as you all would I too would love to win this house. I had never thought of relocating especially so far as to New Mexico. But I am defiantly up for it. I am 52 and hubby is 57 and we have adopted 4 children, the youngest being 5 so you know she has her eye on that awesome play house, lol. Being so cramped in our current home has made us all so very excited and hopeful. Of course we have never won anything in our life so we are not holding our breath since we have about 1 in 40 billion chances of not winning, lol but sure are having fun fantasizing about it. We even have a picture of this house on our desktop, lol. I just want to say that HGTV giving people this kind of opportunity is just so wonderful and kind. And I am grateful to be apart of it even if I don't win. As I now understand there is always next year, lol. And I want to wish everyone who entered the best of luck!!!! Off to gaze at this amazing home, lol

Crazyinlove on March 1, 2010 at 6:08 pm
    • I did the same! I have this home on my desktop also! guess I'm normal after all. ha! I just love to look at this home, It is like when I had my son, I would just sit and look at him, now I watch the videos over and over. My life sounds alot like yours, I'm new to this sweepstakes too, but I just fell in love with this home. It really is the home of my dreams. I wish you luck today also.

sspony on March 2, 2010 at 12:18 pm
  39. Wow I’m so excited. I actually moved in the middle of the whole entry time and put two different adresses online do u think if I were to win they would be able to find me. I dream about winning every night!!!

  40. Good afternoon blogger buddies!

So, I am thinking about the time it takes to reveal the winner and the time it takes to get the keys to the HGTV Dream Home 2010. Here's what I do know…

Last year, Cheryl Smith won the HGTV Dream Home 2009 in Sonoma and the reveal of her surprise was aired on Sunday, March 15, 2009. Cheryl and her husband Joe visited the beautiful California home and received the keys on Friday, April 17th. That means it was 4 weeks and 5 days between the 'airing' of the ambush and the actual first visit. Gail indicates to us that we should plan on approximately 6 to 7 weeks for the very lucky winner to receive the keys to this enchanting home in Sandia Park.

    Won't it be exciting?!?!?!

    (continued)

LynnCoggin on March 1, 2010 at 6:21 pm
  41. (continued)

In addition, on March 3rd last year, the bigwigs at HGTV, along with Ritway execs, gathered at a fulfillment warehouse to choose one winner from more than 39 million HGTV Dream Home 2009 Giveaway entries they had received. On March 13th, MARY had shared with us a vlog about GAIL's explanation of exactly how the winner was radomly chosen. Now that was a great vlog…very informative…I so remember the details of that vlog!

So, buckle up everyone because I believe during the next week we will be on a very exciting roller coaster ride with HGTV! Tomorrow is March 2nd and I'm confident we will be receiving another blog in the near future about the process of random selection which Ritway and HGTV uses to pick the very, very lucky winner of this year's very special HGTV Dream Home!

    Enjoy the ride! ;)

    • That was cool to watch the drawing and then the blogs began (that looks like my paper, did you see the pink paper…oh the green envelope I think was mine….) it's all fun! Maybe they aren't going to do that this year.

    • Ok' Now you have given me goose bumps!

Lisa Salazar on March 1, 2010 at 7:59 pm
    • This is the ONLY roller coaster ride I have been able to enjoy. I Hate roller coasters! I do not do the! But thank you GAil our SuperFan and all the HGTV crew and all you wonderful bloggers and board members for and amazing Ride. Yes, I pray I will win and this will be an answer to my prayers for financial freedom but God's will be done.

  42. The playhouse would also be great storage for the cushions from the patio.

Shirley on March 1, 2010 at 6:24 pm
    • Great idea! There are a lot of cushions!

Jan of FL on March 1, 2010 at 8:45 pm
    • Storage? Lol My Grand-babies would never allow it. ;)

Lisa Salazar on March 2, 2010 at 12:01 am
    • I agree! In one of the tour pics I saw that the cushions were being stored in the garage, but once cars start using the garage I think this area would be too dirty for the cushions, so the playhouse is an ideal alternative.

      C&E on March 2, 2010 at 11:29 am
    • You could also convert into a sauna :) I would keep as a play room until kids are grown and then convert to something

  43. Wow, it was hard to figure out how to post a comment but I guess I finally found it! I still have a lot of questions on how to comment on the different subjects. What I want to know is when do you notify me that I have won and how will you do it? Will it be by phone? Will you be knocking on my door? Will I be notified right away or will it be on the 15th of March? Will I be sent tickets to the Air port to fly to Santa Fe or Albuquerque? What do I pack? When do I get the keys to the Terain? Is the $ sent to a bank account or given me by check? I can't wait! I just know that I have won and I am so excited!

    • Most of your questions have been answered either in the rules info or on these blogs and boards.. But Ed, I would recommend that you just HOLD TIGHT onto your seat and wait to see if YOU are the winner, then they can answer all your questions and help you with all your details. Good Luck

Is this playhouse located were we can sit and watch them play? if not…we will make that happen and add another patio surrounding it with ample shade to serve them cookies and lemonaide. How fun! and what memories to be made!

  46. Gail, Thank you for an update. It really does help to know anything about what is going on. Are you having a blast enjoying the home? It won't be long now! I re read the contest rules and regs…they do a background search first on the winner…mine is squeeky clean!! Have fun and I will keep dreaming!

    • Angela just keep praying, life always goes on and sometimes its not fair at all,its a gamble when it comes to contests, I wish you well with your family, I only had 2 children, but I was always in need of support from others to keep me going, so just keep praying and I wish you well, but honey this is a drawing your chances to win are just as good as others, I honestly don't think it has anything to do with what you write, although I write things also, its to keep your own personal hope alive!!!

  49. when does your post get answered?

    Ed_Horner on March 1, 2010 at 6:44 pm
    • Probably faster to read through the Sweepstakes' rules and prize list….

reneelovesgreen on March 1, 2010 at 6:57 pm
    • Ed — I agree with Renee that you should probably look back at the rules (or previous blogs). Nobody from HGTV comes back to the blog to answer individual questions — that would be overwhelming! It's up to the rest of us to fill in the blanks. You asked so many questions in your past few posts that it's hard to answer all of them, although I applaud the many bloggers who have tried to answer some of them. I suggest what another blogger said: sit back, enjoy the ride, and, if you are the winner, all of your questions will be answered!

      Wyo_Girl on March 2, 2010 at 2:32 pm
  50. Thanks Gail. The playhouse looks great. I can picture the grandkids and dogs playing in there. I was wondering if there was an alarm system and if so if that is also controlled with the sound system.
