While We Wait

Good day, bloggers.

I hope you’re not suffering from boredom. A watched pot never boils, so we must keep busy.

I’ve included pictures that showcase the HGTV Dream Play Home. My handsome hubby, who stands 6’1” tall, gives you perspective on the play home’s size. I think the interior is adorable! I also couldn’t resist “cooking” in that amazing gourmet kitchen.

For those curious about the sound system in this year’s HGTV Dream Home, it’s controlled by a small touch-screen monitor in the home theater. (The stand stays in the theater, but the actual device can travel throughout the home.) It’s one of those extra-special touches that make HGTV Dream Home 2010 incredible.

Many folks have asked how long it takes for the winner to receive his or her keys once the HGTV Dream Home 2010 Giveaway show airs. Plan on approximately six to seven weeks.

Your Super Fan,
Gail

  1. To win this house would truly be a DREAM come true. My husband thinks someone that dont really need it will win someone that already rich. How are they going to contact you? By Phone or Email?? Will it be this weekend? I sure need to win this, but Im sure everyone who interred fills the same.Did anyone inter by mail?

  2. I told my husband….if we win then we win…but if we don’t then it’s okay. I believe in fate. If we were meant to be in New Mexico, then so be it…if not, then all is good….there’s a reason for everything.:)

  3. Very cute ! You are definately living the Dream . It looks like you live there. Is that true? Do you have use of the home as part of your contract? It sure looks like fun, but I know its work . Thanks for your upbeat and informative videos I have sure had a good time with this. Oh I was wondering about the contest for the alpaca shawl that Monica was wearing , Can you let us know who the winner is I hope its me. :)

  4. Dreaming of my new home in New Mexico! You see I have no home to call my own, and me and my husband and children have been through some tough times last few years and we have lost alot and we know this would be a dream come true for us! I think about this home and look at the pictures all the time! I would love to live here, it's a beautiful place! We need the home, car and cash! I know this would truly be a blessing to us!

  5. Do you have the money to pay the 700,000 to the IRS?

reality on March 6, 2010 at 2:06 am
    • Why, oh why, does somebody always say this and think they are being all original and reality-based? It's getting old. Enjoy the dream, and consult a tax attorney if you win. Otherwise, "don't worry, be happy".

  6. well it would truly be a Dream for me and my family, in fact fate, see we lived in New Mexico up until i was 10years old, near the locatioin that they built the dream home, we lived in Sandia Base, can u belive it it has to be fate. We live in Florida now and let me tell you we dream about it everyday, we’ve wanted to go back ever since, when i saw the commercial of the dream house i almost had a heart attack, s but i ignored it because i dont consider myself lucky, but then it started following me and i keep debating wither i should enter or not. So i decided to go for it and you should have seen my moms face when i told her. Now were just hoping and praying, it truly would be a dream come true to live in New Mexico again.

  13. Have been following the blog for some time now, but only post now and then. It's such a beautiful Sunday here in Colorado (just "up the road" from NM), it would be a fantastic day for the film crew to show up and my door to "ambush" me. Only a day or two left at most in the "ambush zone" of possibility. Fun to dream and come here to watch the dreams of others.

Deb on March 7, 2010 at 4:43 pm
  14. I have also been folloing the blog for sometime never posted so this is the first. I have loved reading all the info posted really anticipating the end. Little nervous no one ringing my door bell yet I know they are on the way.

  15. My daughter loves Alice in Wonderland, it would be so perfect for her and her two little brothers to play in.

Denise on March 7, 2010 at 11:11 pm
  16. Gail you look amazing in that DH Kitchen. I thought it was really cool that they picked the theme "Alice In Wonderland" especially with the movie coming out soon. Every kid will love that. You mention in your blog that in the Home Theater room, there is a stand with a touch screen monitor that allows sound to travel through out the DH. I love music so that is a huge bonus, which I can't wait to hear. After the winner is chosen they can get their keys in 6-7 weeks, that's not really very long, as there will be so much to do, that time will pass in no time.

  17. We would like to know more about the taxes, fees, etc., associated with the Dream Home. I can't imagine that the masses have 1 Million to spend on taxes etc. Anyway, may the home go to someone really deserving. Best wishes to the lucky family!

  18. Has the winner already been notified. You would suppose they would need time to plan for the grand announcement on tv.

    • I bet they were called on march 2 .

  19. Will the winner be informed on the 15th?? Will they be informed prior and then introduced on the 15th? Thanks for keeping us updated! There are a lot of people holding their breath and hoping to be the INCREDIBLY LUCKY winner of this beautiful dream home. I can't even begin to put into words how wonderful it would be to go to sleep and wake up every day in that beautiful home.

Trish on March 8, 2010 at 10:07 pm
    • Over the years it has varied. Sometimes they informed the winner on the same day the announcement was televised. Sometimes they informed the winner a few days earlier and asked them to keep the secret until the television special aired. It could happen either way.

  20. I am so anxious to here who wins, I am on disability and my husband now faces a shocking cancer
surgery tomorrow. I would pick up stakes and move pronto. We have 6 children and 6 grandchildren.
We have been blessed, but now face the battle of our lives. Would it be fabulous to win!!! I prey for this.

  21. We went through the dream home on the East Mountain High Benefit Tour, It is even more spectacular than it seemed on the internet. I wonder why you never mentioned the view of the ski run. The house is really a long way from Albuquerque and Santa Fe and I imagine with snow one would be housebound for long periods of time. The saying, "There are no perfect houses" holds true here. A dark laundry room with nowhere to hang clothes or fold them anywhere near the dryer, an alarm system with no police anywhere nearby, hardwood flooors that pop when walked on, and that sort of thing.
still, it is a gorgeous house.

sally on March 9, 2010 at 5:07 pm
    • good to know. I cant imagine ….the floors popped when you walked on them…..sad to hear about the laundry room….

  22. About the notification of the winner: it would be a bit risky for HGTV to travel any distance and assume someone is available to greet them when there are so many variables: the person could be at work, home, church, shopping, etc. HGTV more than likely contacts the winner first via email or phone, and then arranges to meet at a specific time.

I have to say that in watching ALL the HGTV Dream Home giveaways over the years, the winners appeared "pleased", but never seem truly surprised, ecstatic or overjoyed. I know that I would be crying, smiling, laughing and profusely thanking HGTV on camera with no thought about my appearance.

  23. For Those Of You Waiting For HGTV To Show Up On March 14, 2010:

Have you ever noticed that HGTV uses the words ambush style, and those words are in quotes ("ambush style")? They do not mention “surprise ambush” anywhere in the rules. Double quotation marks can be used as "scare quotes" or "sneer quotes", which are quotation marks put around a word to show that the writer doesn't quite buy into the meaning or that the word imparts a sense of irony.

Though realizing that the winner has already been chosen may be disappointing, it's not misleading for HGTV to contact and confirm that the winner will be available. It's just common sense and good business practice.

suzanne on March 9, 2010 at 6:04 pm
  24. Dear Gail and HGTV,

  27. Wow, who so ever have this opportunity should be grateful! It must be wonderful to win this dream home. I’ve been married for a year and just had a baby girl. I can imagine her playing in that play house while I play in mine. I would want to win it but more so, so that my mom and little brother can live with me since she recently lost her house. I’m still grateful at least I was able to enter and had equal opportunity as any other. Thanks HGTV!

Our anniversary is on St. Patrick’s Day-who knows -we will see if it is our lucky day or not!?!

  29. Hello to all of you! so who knows what channel they are going to air the winner on?

Violet S Fultz on March 10, 2010 at 3:39 pm
  30. If the winner does know a day or so before, why do they look totally unprepared when the doorbell rings, look at the winner of the Florida Keys DH, obviously she wasn't prepared for the news–then there are those of us that clean house, color hair, pack our bags, think of the thousands of us that are getting ready to move to NM right now, although the snow didn't sound too good, never mind, we"ll adapt!!!!

Lorri on March 10, 2010 at 5:42 pm
  31. just looking at all these comments, some of you are really funny, I'm just curious, do these sob stories really count ? Look at Angela Bowen's comment, she has had a hard time, does she deserve something more than any of us that thought out our decision not to have 4 kids (or any). people nowdays just blow me away, guess all of us can afford cable to watch HGTV. and no wonder HGTV has put doggie areas in all the DH's except for this one, they probaby got crap for favoring animals over kids, I think they did great, obviously people with pets are more realistic in life's daily problems, my thoughts are as always if you can't afford to take care of goldfish, parakeets, hamsters, gerbils, kitties, puppies, or KIDS you don't take them on to care for. duh.

  32. Do you think they have already notified the winner, or do they actually notify the winner on March 15th?

pat on March 10, 2010 at 6:30 pm
  33. Certainly, the winner is notified in advance. It would be very anti-climatic to announce the winner during the "Live" telecast, and then find out that they don't qualify 5 days after March 14th. Common sense tells you that HGTV is very well aware of all the legal implications, and takes care of the necessary paperwork PRIOR to the "ambush."

  38. Hello everyone!! I am so excited for the drawing!! I usually don't win anything but this is one time I pray I do. I am now raising two grandchildren and my 16 yr. old son. My grandson is 15 mths. and my grandaughter is 15 days old! I forgot how hard it is. We live in a three bedroom trailer which there isn't any room left even for a dresser, and my husband lost his job of 6 yrs. after being released from doctors care. Our utilities are getting shut off constantly it seems like, we just can't get ahead. If I won this beautiful home for my family of 6 plus my sick mother-in-law we take care of and don't have much time, bless her heart and pray for her please, I would open up a restraunt of my favorite meals I cook for my family!! I know my husband would want to have a BBQ pit in the back for his famous steaks (oh my goodness yum!!) and all the magic he can do with a grill!! No matter what, whoever wins I will be happy for them…good luck to everybody and be patience!!! God Bless…

  41. This forum was given to us by HGTV to while away our time while waiting for the announcement of the winner. LYNN is correct: it should not be used as a place of airing dirty laundry or groveling. Nothing that you say in these exchanges will lessen or increase your chance of winning the Dream Home because the winner HAS ALREADY BEEN CHOSEN!

Use some simple logic. It would be very anti-climatic to announce the winner during the "Live" telecast, and then find out that they don't qualify 5 days after March 14th. Common sense tells you that HGTV is very well aware of all the legal implications, and takes care of the necessary paperwork PRIOR to the "ambush style" announcment on March 14, 2010. Are you the same people that vote for leaders of the country?

  43. For those of you wondering about the Affidavit of Eligibility for the Dream Home Sweepstakes:

An affidavit of eligibility is a formal sworn statement verifying your personal information, such as your name, age, and social security number and citizenship. Sweepstakes require a signed and notarized affidavit before confirming a sweepstakes winner. Prior to awarding any prize, the sponsor must receive the notarized affidavit of eligibility from the potential winner.

In most cases, the affidavit will ask you to confirm that the information you submitted on your entry form is correct, and to swear that they agree to the rules of the sweepstakes. You may be asked to confirm that the sponsors can publish your name as the sweepstakes winner for publicity purposes, and that you do not work for the sponsor or the judging agency. You will also be asked for additional information for tax purposes.

  45. Gail,
If you retire from this fun job-please let me know. I would like to take your place. Can you win anything from this site, since you are involved??
I would rather win the Dream Home! I need the casita for my Mom (or she can stay anywhere in the main house). My Dad died the end of last October & she would be better residing with my husband & me. She is "lost" without my Dad – he did everything for her & put her on a pedastal. Now, that is love!

  47. Whether you're reading an entry in this blog stating that no one here probably won the house, or you don't get the knock at the door from the HGTV team, your dreams will have been crushed. It's far better to get the dreams crushed now than later.

Suzanne on March 12, 2010 at 9:02 am
  48. I would rather spend my days on hopes and dreams than spend my hours in despair the idea of this type of thing is to give hope and joy not sadness and pain if you enter a sweepstakes and can't deal with not winning your going to be very unhappy much of the time try to be happy for the winner and find a new dream perhaps the hgtv green home sweepstakes coming soon. Good Luck to the winner in their new life and thanks to hgtv and other sponsors for the opportunity you've gained a big fan.
