Nervous? Excited? Can’t wait for Monday night? Me too. Today, Super Fan presents a “How We Select the Winner” Tutorial. Watch and learn.
My thought…. they need to build several normal houses and have more winners for us people that really need a house! Congratulations to Myra!
To me I think this whole thing was a joke. I am not a racist but the only reason why she won the house was because she was African American. That is messed up. My father had a brain tumor a year ago and he has so much debt due to the medical bills and no one gave a crap about him. He is a Veteran and no one cares that he served this country. There are so many unfortante people in the United States that deserve this house a hell of a lot more than this lady from New Orleans.
Its a random selection process overseen by a professional third party organization, that specializes in sweepstakes promotions. Its a 2 million dollar prize, not just a small affordable home in a decent neighborhood.
Anonomous – (sic) – means you don't how to spell,
You are an evil person. You're looking to a PR sweepstakes to solve your issues? Did you even go to kindergarten? I thought not. America is doomed because of people like you.
I love HGTV and think what they do ,greating a lovely home and then giveing every one in the country a chance to win, and live in it ,is unbeleaveable, like a fairy tale come true//
I would like to know how the random winner just happened to have such an inspirational story(Katrina survivor). it almost seems as though she were hand selected. really makes for great television. she and her son were certainly deserving!
They officially pulled the winner's name and contact info a couple of weeks ago, so they've had time to find out as much as possible for the press coverage to be presented as favorable to HGTV and the dream home giveaway sponsors. If you won, they'd be looking for the best things to say about you.
So what happened to the extra car that was given away…… Remember…. you had an ad on your site for another chance to win a car like the winners….or did you forget that event….??????
That was a separate sweepstakes, and if you read the official rules for it, you'd know when the drawing is.
I would also like to know when the car will be given away and sorry I didn't read the rules !!
random my ass
Hey, Congrats Myra!
you know it kind of makes me a little upset to see the kind f people who win these things. my parents have never owned a house we have rented a house for 16 years, and we have never had a hand with anything my fiance and i want to get married but are always running into money issues. i though maybe we had a chance for once. guess i was wrong
It's interesting how it is supposed to be random and a surprise, yet they knew the story behind the winner before they approached her home to notify her that she was the winner….. that's interesting. I don't recall being able to give my hard luck story ahead of time…..
OMG! People are ridiculous! No one has anythin nice to say and are so bitter they didn’t win that they only have negative/racist comments! This was such a nice thing that HGTV did and that everyone should be lucky its even offered to us! And everyone who enters should realize that the chances of winning are so slim when they have over 40million entries!I think that its great that someone won the house no matter what race they are or where they come from! I’m happy for them! Congratulations! And to everyone who is posting the negative comments shame on u and get over yourself! Ps you will be surprised of how many people have a deserving story!just remember there’s always someone who has it worst out there than you do and be greatful!
The house the winner already owned looked like a dream home to me…and she's a doctor, for crying out loud. I wish someone who really needs a home, car, and money would have won. They could've at least skipped trying to make it sound like she's some sad case because of Katrina. Obviously she had everything already.
Its a 2 million dollar prize package, so anyone who doesn't have that kind nest egg set aside would love to win. I don't think anyone deserves a 2 million dollar prize from a random selection process based sweepstakes, but almost everyone could appreciate it. Whoever wins will be presented in the best news story fashion that HGTV could come up with, or it won't get much press coverage and thus free publicity for HGTV and the sponsors.
Go Figure…the winner is from New Orleans….when are those Liberal minds going to get over Katrina??? I would have rather seen a disabled Vet get a home when they fought for ours!!!! Seems like 9/11/01 is just a drop in the bucket compared to those poor Katrina victims who had days to evacuate and sat around doing nothing!!!
Why isn't there a choice for the 2011 HGTV home in the Pacific Northwest? Oregon would be the perfect place for a new "green home". Perfect weather the year round and beautiful green day after day. Give us a chance in the "PACIFIC NORTHWEST".
I understood that the prizes were to have separate winners: House; Vehicle; Money?
I keep wondering how you do select the winner??
Politics have anything to do with it? It is nice to be "politically correct" during this period.
It is an interesting contest.
It was one grand prize including the home, the car, and the cash all together.
There were no secondary prizes this year. In previous years they had a doggie dream home, and one year (the 10-year anniversary special) had separate cash prizes as well.
The winner is chosen from all the entries with a multi-step random selection process.
Congratulations to the winner and her family. I hope you enjoy your new home! I’m excited for you – may you be blessed and be a blessing to others in the great state of new Mexico.
That’s how it goes you sore loosers! Get over it, O.K.!? Be happy for Myra & her son. Sure, we’d all have wished to win this great prize, but there can only be one winner, comprende? So smile for Myra, tomorrow’s another new day!!!
that house was awesome & how nice to have a talented son live so close to a place where artists can flourish it was perfect Myra won. God helps those that help others too.
I'm very happy for the winner I to took the tour everyday daydreaming about winning. My kids and I jumped everytime someone came to our door on Sunday night LOL Congrats to the winner and her son
I think the additional car drawing is in july or sometime in the summer
It is easy to say she has alot, lets not forget don't be to quick to judge someone untill you have walked in her shoes
i was disappointed, it seems as i watch hgtv, most of the winning makeovers and now louisanna, if i would have known sooner i would have not entered. x watcher in sc.
I wish they wuold do a live show when they are picking the winner.
Congratulations to the winner, Myra. She has experienced so much sorrow in her life and still went on to help others; this is a wonderful example of how good things happen to good people. Once again, G-d bless you and your family, Myra. Enjoy the beautiful home. You deserve it! -Alexandra Kathryn
well said ms. kathryn.
YOU GUYS DO A GOOD JOB WITH THE HOUSE,S THANK YOU
MAY BE NEXT YEAR FOR ME I HOPE WE LOVE THE HOUSE
Congratualtions, Myra!
This is an exciting and great "feel good" story for your fellow HGTV family members! I'm delighted for you and your family. May many years of health and happiness reside with you in your new home.
Congratualtions to you and HGTV for another fantastic giveway!
Great job!!
Congratulations to Myra and her family!! I hope you enjoy your new home!!
I am so happy to see some one of color win a grand prize at HGTV. We were starting to wonder about how the winners are selected.
I’m sad I didn’t win. I entered the sweepstakes daily. I have been unemployed for almost a year, my mother cares for my grandmother, her 99 yr-old mother, and my sister makes slightly above minimum wage. We rent a tiny house that’s falling apart. Boy would that house have been a breath of fresh air! However, would I have been able to pay the taxes? Like myself many people of all walks of life entered also, maybe even people who were pretty well off, but wanted a change, or a beautiful place like this to retire. Somebody had to win, and the somebody’s name that was drawn was Myra. So Congrat to her and her son! — I wonder what people would be saying if I had won? I wonder what people would be saying of the “sour loosers” if THEY had won. There are always complainers who feel they deserve it more, or that somebody else deserves it more. — As for me and my family, we still have a roof over our heads, food on our table and clothing on our backs, and the bills although juggling them, they somehow get paid. We are always happy, feeling good about ourselves, and happy for the good things, and the extra good things that happen to others!
By the way, when I typed “sour loosers” I did not make a typographical error. I don’t mean “sore losers” I mean “sour loosers”.
Greed is the root of this country's economic problems. Those who are well off should stop trying to grab more for themselves. Natural disasters are rough-that's why we call them disasters-but if you're able to get out of their way and you have insurance on your belongings, then there are a lot of things that are way worse (like your situation, for example). I'm not being a "sour looser." I'm wanting truth and justice to be the American way. By the way, "sour loosers" is completely nonsensical.
Makes sense. I understand what you're saying; but I'm just too much of an optimist at times. Regarding the "sour loosers", I know, nonsensical. Only people who know me would understand. I'm quarky and goofy at times and make up sayings that generally only make sense in my head. I shouldn't have posted it. Too late now.
Random is random.one out of fifty million win.49 million complain 1million congratulate the winner. Thanks for offering such a great prize.Next year 49 million will say it was rigged again.
We enter online, but how do you choose the dream home winner? What about the 2nd chance on the gmc car?
The second chance thing was a separate GMC promotion, with different rules and different dates…
Why is it no surprize that a black women from New Orleans (Katrina) win the dream home. Now HGTV is Politicaly Correct.
Come on folks, how would you like it if people said it was 'rigged' if you had won???? Let's get on with the Green House & impatiently await the 2011 Dream Home. Congrats Myra & Family !!
I think it is all decided who is going to win along time ago , the winner really wasn"t too excited she knew
The winner's entry (and some alternates to use if there something found with the first pick) were chosen March 2nd. It will be interesting to hear any new details that come out regarding her actual prize notification. It certainly looks like the lawyers were making them do things advance of the official notification date and getting the official publicity paperwork completed and video content approved beforehand, (much like Gail's blogs here) so a live televised notification show event is now truly unlikely…
its funny how most of the time its people that dont need a home y dont yall try giving it to someone that deserves it for once
come on a Dr from New Orleans ?
I have a concern! Why is it that these people that win, always have a home already and a better than average job then most people have. . Are you looking for sad stories to put on Tv? I guarantee you we all have some sort of sad story. Is it riged? I sincerely hope not. .I love watching your shows and what you do. Giving away homes is tolally awesome!! I hope its fair for all who have that dream of owning their own home. As for me I will continue to dream the dream in hopes of having my own home someday. I will continue to enter for my chance to win. NEVER GIVE UP!!!
There's always the presumption that the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway attracts people who would be likely candidates to buy the products the sponsors of the giveaway are selling more, than people who are struggling to get by living in an apartment…
After praying about my situation. I believe the contest IS NOT RIGGED. We all have hopes and dreams! I believe God hears all our prayers. What he has for one person, he has something differently for others. I see that the home in New Mexico wasnt for me. God has another home for me. Therefore, I will never stop trying to win my dreamhome!! I encourage everyone to think positive and be happy for the ones that win right now. You never know when your turn will come up. We have to much negativity in this world lets think positive and we will be a better people for it. GOD BLESS!!!
It seems almost like a high number of winners from all the HGTV Sweepstakes are East of the Mississippi. See recently someone from Minnesota won but I sure don't feel very lucky with the odds.
Personally I wish they would pick someone who would love the home as a home and not a trophy… Unfortunietly it seems to be the case here every year someone who's income didn't show they could build the house themselves… I mean come on a Doctor this year?? Who's mother is she? that is not fun or inspirational to me this will be the last year i watch or enter because it is the same every year.. To bad it was not some homeless person or someone with a family who works hard and deserves it but couldn't afford it…What a shame!!!
Love the story about the winner, Myra. I was on a mission trip to Mississippi to help with the recovery from Katrina and she's right: it's an ongoing recovery. This was a miraculous thing for her and I'm really glad to see she's getting some fantastic life changes after all the loss.
Just hoping I see an HGTV person pull up in my driveway! WOW! What a blessing it would be to be the winner. Can't wait till they reveal the details.
Only GOD and the announcer knows. I have this strange feeling………..
it would have been great if she had just given an initial to the first name. I am afraid I will need to watch my grandkids about 20 minutes away from home. So much better to watch them at their home where they have their own toys & movies to watch. The one year old in in to everything.
What a perfect life will be living the winner of the Green Home 2010! Let me dream!
For those of you who have not followed the HGTV home sweepstakes, this is the same video from the Dream home in Mexico. They use the same video to explain the how they selected the winner.
Of course its one of us, we all entered,,,dah. but i guess next time we need to enter via good old mail.sounds more probable..and the hint of wow this should be interesting (the state the wimmer is from) must be like hawaii, alaska, montana, some state where therre is much difference and getting used to. but good ole plymouth is nice and quaint anyone can get used to that..Good luck to the winner,,wish it was me…but from the looks of it,,,whoever you are,,GOD Bless.
I hope I win as I truly feel as if I deserve a second chance at a New Home!
I lost my home several years ago and I am presently living inbetween the
kindness of strangers and family. I have been hoping and praying about
this… and I totally long to relocate… PLEASE! PLEASE! let it be me!!
I am so excited. My husband and I are just waiting for HGTV crew to show up in Oklahoma.
I am so excited and cannot wait to find out. Like all of us, "I hope it is me/my family". I just want to read to my little girl in that cozy looking sitting room!!
