Your Perfect Day at HGTV Dream Home

If you won, what would your day look like? Super Fan muses today, just to get the conversation started. I’d probably take a morning hike through the desert that surrounds the home, come back and whip up a late breakfast, sun myself on the Casita patio, head out for a shopping spree in Santa Fe and then come home to host a huge house party – hip-hop music blaring, folks dancing and Dream Home margaritas overflowing.

What about you? Come on, folks. I want you to blow up this blog post – let’s shoot for over 1,000 posts before the giveaway show airs on Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST. Be creative – I will be reading.

  2. i wanted this house so bad, but i am so happy to know that the winner deserves it more than i do. I am young and can work hard to get one + i believe God has many blessings stored for me. Congratulations Dr. Lewis, Enjoy your blessings from God.

    • I still didn't watch the video because i don't have cable and the website videos doesn't load, but from the comments its looks like she was very deserving of the prize. I am glad that it was finally an African American person. I am young also and believe the same that GOD will bless us in other ways we have our WHOLE lives ahead of us lol! There is also another venue we all have to put in perspective here. Ive been doing some reading online about past winners of the dream home and ALL of them had to eventually sell their home : ( The taxes and utilities ended up adding up to thousands of dollars that these middle class citizens simply couldn't afford. This is just great for the IRS which are the biggest thieves in America. Things like this dream home contest keep the establishment going and money in the fat cats pockets! It is very wicked what they do and I pray that this woman wont have to have any more stress than she has already had. I thank GOD because I have been praying for this home and entering daily since day one, But I know my FATHER doesn't give me more than I can bear. I am under HIS protection and HE looks out for my best interest even when I am shortsighted. Here is an article of a 2005 winner that had to eventually sell his home 3 years later because of all the taxes and expensive bills each month. lol it seems they picked the right person too because he said he will do it all over again! i didn't know what sense that made but ITS WICKED! here read about it http://contests.about.com/od/sweepstakes101/a/don… BE alert and stay informed that's one of the things GOD wants from us the most! be blessed

  3. I am so sorry I came off selish my fellow bloggers, I was only reading the rules again and still “dreaming” as I was just as sure it was mine as did everyone! I think anyone would be deserving and I am actually over the moon for Myra. You wishing me ill, not knowing where I was coming from does not make things right! I was still hanging on to hope that we could still win and being disqualified would have everything to do with a choice she would make. I apologize for not explaining myself, but you shouldn’t judge a person or call them names, clearly emotions were running high last night. I wish you all an amazing day and many blessings!

  6. Dear Dr. Lewis, Firstly, Congratulations!!! You have been truly blessed! I watched your interview which prompted me to write. You have had a life experience that only a woman in a similar situation could ever fully understand. I also had an only son whom society would call "disabled".
I would like to share with you that I envision your son sitting on your NM patio. He has set up his easel and has begun to paint his interpretation of the breathtaking sunrise he is viewing. His painting is sure to fit in beautifully with the other artwork in your home!
May God continue to bless you and your family.

  8. I was so happy to see a very deserving lady win, and she is beautiful. She is very much a lady and I'm thrilled for her. It totally sounds like she will live there and enjoy New Mexico, in her retirement .She is one in millions, in her character, determination, and stamina. Congrats to you , you are one hell of a lady!

  10. I think the perfect day would be knowing hgtv ran a fair contest instead of what myself and others see as a crooked phony contest, I can't wait to see the guilty partys to what looks like a scam for cheap ratings are prosecuted and jailed.

    • HGTV can't do anything about people's imaginations regarding how the sweepstakes is conducted.

      dreamn_again on March 16, 2010 at 6:39 pm
  11. Wow… this shit is so rigged. A random person won who just happens to be from New Orleans and has an inspirational story. If your going to pick the fing winner dont do an fing drawer or sweepstakes just pick someone you want to win and make it fair. Last time I watch this channel. Peace out HGTV keep making it UNREAL!

  12. What drawing are you talking about. My husband and I couldn't believe how fixed this seemed. You can't tell me this wasn't fixed so as to have a nice but old and tired of hearing about life story. I couldn't believe it until they mentioned where the winner was from and we were so upset about it. She also didn't seem to need the home or the money. How come no one who was homeless or without a job won. That would have seemed more real. Yeah, we are tired about hearing what people lost with Katrina. The winner evidently had insurance on her old home and replaced it with a new one.

  16. The one thing I've learned from reading all these blogs, is not to join. Just keep silent and do my thing. You can't win on this blog. Next year I'll just enter and forget about what every one is saying. Good bye bloggers.

  17. I must say as jealous as I am, I must admit, it couldn't have happened to a better person! I am thrilled to have heard her story! She deserves it and I wish her the very best from the bottom of my heart! May her son become a well known artist! May she enjoy her new home every day of her life! I wish her and her son good health and the very best life has to offer. Congratulations, Dr. Myra from Selvi, Niles, IL

  20. HGTV, this message is for you. You have been dealing with the public long enough to know that you just can't make everyone happy. And, after reading some of the messages from unhappy bloggers, just wanted to thank you. Thank you so very much for the fun of the Dream Home, the Green Home, and your sister DIY Blog Cabin. The format is great (from the huge and truly dreamy home to this blog), my husband and I love it! Looking forward to the next Dream Home… cannot wait to start reading the hints!

So you don't think I am trying to have an "in" in the next Dream Home, I will withhold my name!

  21. If I won the next hgtv give away it would be more than a house but a financial freedom! It would be helping my family and the one thing close to my heart feeding stray and abandon cats and dogs. I also would love to win to give the house to my girlfriend we have been together for 10 almost eleven years and she has helped me though all my surgeries 10 to date there is no other way to give her this dream of mine other than winning the next hgtv give away,
    Thank you

    Congrats to the winner.

  25. I am happy for the winner but it seems every year the winner already owns their home and is doing fairly well.I would like to see someone who is homeless and not doing well in their life win this Im sure Im not the only person out there that would like to see this happen. It seems more than coincidence that every person that has won this dream home is already well off!

debra coper on March 25, 2010 at 11:30 am
    • debra, this home, like past dream HGTV homes, was not one that someone who's homeless and down on their luck could keep. The winner automatically becomes someone who's blessed with a 700-800 thousand dollar income tax bill due the following April, and then there are the ongoing bills to maintain a 1.5million dollar home like the annual property taxes, home insurance, and HOA fees. Anyone winnng is likely to sell it due to those factors alone, if not for the long distance it is from their current family, friends, and employment.

      dreamn_again on March 26, 2010 at 11:03 pm
  26. If I would of won the dream home, I would of used the guest house for terminally ill people, so that they and their families, would of had a vacation together. My mom is the one who inspired this in me, she has cancer, and has always said that she wished that she could of had a nice vacation to forget about it.
So I would of made it so that the adults with terminal illnesses as well as children are not forgotten.
It would be a make of wish type of thing for them. I adore NM, and love Santa Fe, and I wish all the happiness to the new winner!

  27. My perfect day at this dream home would be to fly my family to the home for a festive day of food and fun.
Stay up exploring the area and watch the sunset.
Get up early the next morning and list this ugly, impractical, hospital looking house FOR SALE at whatever I could get for it fast. I mean,,, really,,, who could feel safe sleeping in such an open accessible master bedroom?
Then I'd get myself a small place near the beach or some place festive.

  28. If i won one of the hgtv homes i would wake up with a smile on my face and thank God for this beautiful gift and make beakfast for my granddaughters and then we would play or read some books.

  29. I AM HEARTBROKEN AND SICK THAT I DID NOT WIN THE HOUSE IN NEW MEXICO. STRANGE BUT TRUE, MYRA'S STORY IS MY STORY!!!! MY HOME IS IN NEW ORLEANS AND, LIKE MYRA, MY HOME WAS DEVISTATED BY KATRINA. ALSO, I ENTERED EVERY SINGLE DAY AND JUST KNEW GOD WOULD LET ME LIVE THE REST OF MY LIFE IN "MY NEW HOME". LIKE HER, I ALSO HAVE STUDIED PSYCHOLOGY BUT I HAVE EARNED 1) A MASTERS IN MARRIAGE & FAMILY THERAPY, 2) AND GESTALT THERAPY AND 3) A PhD IN PSYCHOLOGY. AM I HAPPY FOR HER? HONESTLY! NO.
I AM VERY, VERY . . . UNHAPPY, SAD AND DEPRESSED THAT I DID NOT !!!!

  30. I did not realize that anyone was still commenting on the Perfect Day at the DH since it is no longer available. I just read the entry written by Fatima Ali. I am so very sad for you. Everyone has a story and some of us have very sad stories but we have to move on to another dream. I honestly thought that God had placed that DH on my heart and I mistakenly believed I was going to win but I didn't and so reluctantly I moved on. I am happy for the winner as I would want everyone to be happy for me had I won. Fatima please try to be happy because out of over 40 million entries there could only be ONE winner. You are a winner in your own right. God bless you.

  31. if i lived in the plymouth, ma home, i could never sleep i would be so happy ; ). i would wake up 6am get my two daughters breakfast and ready for school. drive about 30 min away to work, come home and enjoy my home with my kids. My kids father has sundays off and tuesdays he works half a day, so we would enjoy it together. Sundays we spend the day at my moms and my kids fathers moms house in New Bedford, Ma. My 4 sisters and bro would come over with their families when they could, i could imagine us outside in the summer just like we do now at my moms. Tuesdays are game / movie night and there would be plenty of room for playing board games. ( not like my apartment ), and plenty of room for watching a movie comfortable. My kids would love their room with their own bathroom. I would have my computer on the 3 rd floor instead of having it in my bedroom, we could get our quiet time. My kids love the cool beds.

  36. …what a beautiful morning…… I would sing and take my cup of coffee and sit in the anex and look outside, feeling like I'd sit in a tree house, or just stand in the center of the house, making a full 360degree turn, looking at everything with an awwstruck face. This house and especially the sourroundings, and 4 season town of Stowe looks soooo much like Switzerland, I'd feel a little less homesick to Switzerland. I could enjoy and join in, with my kids to do all Stowe has to offer. I would look especially forward to taking a ride with the gondelas, to bike ride with the kids and get back into snowskiing and teaching the kids a sport I use to love back in Switzerland. My husband looks forward to the kitchen, he said, leave the pancake supplies right there where it is….he wants to make pancakes!

  37. I love the warmth of the house, Warm inside in the winter, yet looking cool and refreshing in the summer. We have a house here in Oregon, we are struggling,(the mortage is difficult) but at least we are blessed with a roof over our heads….. This is our first home, very small. This would be a perfect time to move, my son would start higshool in Stowe…how cool is that. My daughter loves the outdoors. Stowe is a perfect town for us, we always wanted to live in sourroundings like that…..it took a dreamhome to show us that beauty like this exist?

So, come take a trip to Oregon, knock on our door….. Our dreams continue dreaming, I would love for our dreams to finally come true….at least once.
Thank you and see you soon

  38. …..and what better way then to make a wish come true for someone less fortunate…. My first thought of winning the 2011 DreamHome, is that since the home is filled with beautiful new furniture…We would donate ALL our current furniture to Homes for humanity, as they make houses for the less fortunate and those houses need to be filled with dressers, TV, beds and things….. Our things are not new, but they are well taken care of and clean, A dream is really only a dream come true if and another dream can be filled at the same time. One can receive and be lucky to have a dream be made true, I'd then like to give too. :) It is only fair.
what a wonderful dream we are having…I sure hope it will come true ;-) come surprise us here in Oregon,
My kids, my husband and my parents would be thrilled and I would be the happiest person on earth….well at least in Stowe <3:)

  42. On my first day in my new Stowe, Vermont luxury home, I will arise, out of my fit for a Queen bed, and slither into the bathroom to brush my teeth. Then I will commence to put on my bathing suit, wrap myself in my chenile robe, and dance my way to the kitchen for my moca java. While I walk to the sliding door, I will blow a kiss to my exquisite kitchen and dining area. Then I will light the fire place, slide into the jacquisi, and deeply hold my breath of mountain fresh air. While meditating on the glow of the candles, I will relax with the bubbling brook of bubbles that surround my inhaling body. The mystical white light surrounding me enhances my meditation of Mother Earth, the Heavenly Skies and the miraculous Universe. After my meditation, with my laptop swiveled over the jacquisi, I will start my Grand Opening Invitation letters (to my two sisters, two sons, two grandsons, two Aunties and Seventy Five Cousins) : "The Odonates of the Stowe, VT Mountains graciously invites you all for the Grand Opening of my Home to my Family and Friends" The Itinerary as follows:
