Your Perfect Day at HGTV Dream Home

If you won, what would your day look like? Super Fan muses today, just to get the conversation started. I’d probably take a morning hike through the desert that surrounds the home, come back and whip up a late breakfast, sun myself on the Casita patio, head out for a shopping spree in Santa Fe and then come home to host a huge house party – hip-hop music blaring, folks dancing and Dream Home margaritas overflowing.

What about you? Come on, folks. I want you to blow up this blog post – let’s shoot for over 1,000 posts before the giveaway show airs on Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST. Be creative – I will be reading.

  3. How ironic….The Super Bowl , Mardi Gras, now the rigged Dream Home Winner? Changing Channels…..

  4. Well congrats to the winner…my daughter just cried herself to sleep because i had to tell her we didn't win. :-(

Heather on March 16, 2010 at 12:17 am
    • That is why I never said a word about or showed a picture of the home to my son. Why would you give your child that kind of false hope? If she cried herself to sleep you have no one to blame but yourself.

  5. And I was so sure…… Well congrats to the winner.

  6. Yeah! Classic case of left coast discrimination! HGTV should preempt its regular programming for something as big as this. I could care less about a second viewing of Divine Design, and I love Candace Olson. But this is the DREAM HOME! Get a clue, HGTV!

It is a great home. I'm glad I at least got to tour it.

    • how did they enter than?

Robin on March 16, 2010 at 12:27 am

Cheri on March 16, 2010 at 12:31 am
    • She would have had to enter to win.

Please don't blame her. She did what we all did which is to enter she was the one fairly chosen and I hope she truly enjoys her much deserved blessing!!

      You Go Myra!!!!!!

  9. I don’t understand how they chose someone that has this sad story. I am truly happy for her, but was it selectively picked to chose a person who had the saddest story? I’m not giving up hope for next year but, how do they know so much about someone they just picked from the entries. I so love HGTV, but I just want to know how this was chosen. I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long.
Congrats Winner! Please treat the house nicely.

CRJ on March 15, 2010 at 7:22 pm
    • The winner is selected completely at random by computer. It doesn't care WHO you are, what you own, or anything about your life story. So keep the faith. Perhaps next year will be your turn. The chances are as good as anyone else's.

By the way, once the winner's name is randomly selected, HGTV moves quickly to quietly discover everything they can about the person before they are "ambushed" on camera.

    • The winner just happens to have a story to go with…other winners haven't. They do a lot of investigating about the winner to make the show interesting.

adisneyfamily on March 16, 2010 at 12:30 am
    • Many contestants have stories, some are blessed, some are not. I doubt this was staged or intentional, just one little piece of the story. Try not to envy those who appear to be more fortunate than you are. Try instead to look at the blessings in your life – some people are looking up to you with no home or apartment right now. It's all in the perspective. Put good energy out in the world as it sounds like Myra does and good things will happen for you too. Just remember, it might not always look like what you think it will or be what you asked for…it might just be even better!

Lone Star Lassie on March 16, 2010 at 12:41 am

    • You are right, it does seem a bit weird and calculated. My house burned two days before my birthday in July 2008 when the contractors came over with a supposid simple job that anyone could do. A lot of my pets died in that fire. When I came back home, I learned that they had snapped the tree on a gas main and it went straight up through to the electrical wiring. I was in between insurance companies in which I had just left Friday to go to another on that Monday. The contractors turned out not being bonded (which I later found out). I never knew about those things before. I do now! To this day, I am still stuck in an apartment myself as many other people are.

      tazzy101 on March 16, 2010 at 1:41 am
    • The down payment for a house is hard to come by since jobs don't want to pay students much of anything. Plus, doesn't there always seem to be something that goes wrong right when you have a little bit of extra money?
This summer, I am supposed to graduate with my very first bachelor's degree. It has been a long haul, but I am hoping something good will come out of it. After I finish with this degree, I intend to go back to school for my M.S.e.D. so I can teach school.
I do hope you are able to get out of your apartment eventually. It's good to have a roof over your head, but it's even better when it's a place that you can call your own where nobody can tell you what to do.

      tazzy101 on March 16, 2010 at 1:41 am
      • Congratulations on your degree!

    • I don't think Myra has ever felt sorry for herself! When life has been tough for her she has kept going! She has accomplished much! Worked hard for her education to make a better life for herself and her son Chris. Why does everyone think the drawing was rigged and why does it matter! I don't know your situation or why you live in an apartment instead of your own home. Make a new beginning for yourself! MAKE CHOICES THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR YOURSELF AND THOSE YOU CARE ABOUT! Don't covet or whine….we don't always get what we want! That's life! Many times I've been thankful I didn't get what I thought I wanted. Other times I worked hard to get it! I think legally HGTV is on the up and up. They are a good bunch of people! Their reputation depends on it!

  12. Awwh…we didn't win either, but still enjoyed every moment! Finally able to check back after a busy week to see what's happened and say thanks for explaining how the winner is chosen, a very fair process. Looking forward to seeing the video of the winner and their family since we don't get the HGTV show at this time. A BIG Congratulations to whomever won!

Setting my computer homepage to HGTV's website main page permanently this time so every log in will keep me informed on what's going on, and be just a click away from all of the other Scripps Network websites as well (DIY Network, FOOD Network, Fine Living, Front Door, etc.). with more excitement / good information to come (Yes, this is a hobby)….so let the fun continue!

  13. Maybe this lady winner can help me out, I've been unemployed for 4 months, have applied like crazy, have bad back problems that diminish my capacity to find good work, done alot of animal rescue work and no one has or is helping me! I'm near being a "bag lady" on the streets of Colorado Springs, any openings on the river? This winner's story sounds like they were "hand picked". In conclusion, I am happy for her…. CONGRATS to this LA lady, I'm sure she deserves it.

    2. but, hmm…. i thought this was randomly selected.
    3. doesn't this remind anyone of extreme home makeover? except maybe it's extreme home replacement?

Anyway, Kudos HGTV for picking someone in my neighboring state! :) I would have totally kept the house, personally -so of course i hope the winner does too! Maybe since, they're only two states away from NM, they'll keep it???

  25. How in the world can it be live, and how did she not know that this was going to happen? I am so sure this is not live and they this was formally taped. She would be in more of a shock, this is pure crap!! They feed us full of this crap, thinking it's live and it's not!!!!

Cheri on March 16, 2010 at 6:29 am
      • First of all Cheri, never said it wasn't done fair and square, refer to the text. I am happy for her, but I get tired of all the media hooplah about how it's going to be such a "BIG" surprise. Anyone as well as I know that this wasn't live. If speaking the truth is so-called "whining" then I am the biggest baby on earth. I am happy for anyone who wins, as it is such a blessing for whoever won now and in the future. They should just stop saying they are going to surprise when it really isn't.

GUEST on March 16, 2010 at 3:12 am
    • Now you guys finally get it. I told you all the truth was not always positive.

Patricia Strickland on March 16, 2010 at 12:52 am
      • Yeh just a big marketing ploy. America is so commercial!

nm native on March 16, 2010 at 1:22 am
        • NM Native,

And whatever led you to believe that this was not a business transaction, public relations event for the benefit of the builders, suppliers and the network? If you thought otherwise then you are the one who is so commercial because you thought this was a charity event or something?

People, this is a sweekpstakes; not an event designed to help the needy or the most desperate person out there. It was done for the benefit of the sponsors and the network. The house was an incentive to get you, the consumer, to look at the products and the programs on the network. I'd say it was a great success!

David on March 16, 2010 at 3:37 am
          • RIGHT ON DAVID!!

Cheri on March 16, 2010 at 6:20 am
          • Man, that's not what they are talking about. No one mentioned all of the commercial crap, but they need to stop making it seem like it's such a damn surprise when it's not.

GUEST on March 17, 2010 at 6:25 am
    • Shock is individual…it looks different for each of us…just cause I would be screaming and jumping up and down doesn't mean that she would. It looked real to me.

  26. What a wonderful & deserving winner – Congratulations!!!!

Jlyn on March 16, 2010 at 12:31 am
  27. Congrats to Myra!!
As for how they chose the story, it was coincidence. They showed the drawing, and the fact that she was chosen was her luck. Also, you can find interviews of previous winners about how they find "life stories". They are creative in digging up info, such as watching the person's home, finding out where they work, etc. (it's actually a little scary). So, please, be happy for Myra as the winner. It's natural to be disappointed that you lost, but don't say that the contest was rigged.
Keep dreaming everyone! There's still Green Home, Blog Cabin, and 2011!
