  1. I’m here in this awful forgotten & lonely place
I never know if I coming or going within our space

You consider & interpret what you’ll imagine & see
Will I ever come to match or will I ever be seen for just me

It’s a struggle to talk & to be heard as a fight I must bring
Hearing & listening are two completely different things

Giving understanding is a vital ritual for carrying feelings
Listening is not judging what is heard, it's simply not dealing

My own weaknesses are coming to bear when I seek to measure
All is lost in love when I seek to own without giving pleasure

Temperance, letting a conversation occur & have a loving face
Feeling an urge succumbing to overcome flaws as if it’s a race

The message is lost to me as I’m lost with my own pitfalls
When do I learn to have more than just ruler & give it my all

How much must I lose before love is gone & completely a miss
It’s up to me to listen & hear all that I miss to own my bliss

    • PFG: For the first time I understand you are writing lyrics. For a song. I see you strumming on your guitar and pouring your heart out. If I am wrong, please forgive me.

  2. I have not been involved from the beginning. So i am looking forward to the clues to where the next home is. I keep saying i am not going to come back here, but can not stay away. I have had alot of fun. I know the next house will be great. Just sitting on the edge of my seat waiting.

Linda Barshaw on March 23, 2010 at 4:30 pm
    • Hey, Linda, I also can't seem to stay away. This is quite new to me. I've entered for years, but didn't blog. It's entertaining. People really are interesting to listen to.

  3. Congratulations to Myra and family.

We have been toasting and celebrating since March 16th. We have filled 8 pages of toasting, sipping and drinking, Is this what you call an HGTV DREAM HOME, MARDI GRAS, NEW ORLEANS STYLE? We need costumes don't we?

Cami on March 23, 2010 at 7:21 pm
  4. Would someone run over to Bozeman Montana and go to the Gallatin Heights development and see if you can find our Dream Home Hero Jack Thomasson? If you do, don't just stand there in amazement. Get details, AND DO NOT LET HIM SWEET TALK YOU INTO SIGNING A CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT. Come back and report! Thank you in advance. There will be another heart felt thanks when you return. Good Luck! You are a brave soul.

Cami on March 23, 2010 at 7:32 pm
    • Hey Cami…why don't you give them a call and ask ;o) maybe you can sweet talk someone into some answers.

Our Army Family on March 23, 2010 at 7:45 pm
      • I think you would have to have HGTV connections to really get anywhere. : > { I just use my education, experience, intuition and add a little sleuthing. Someone else will have to do the leg work, or brave work. If you are suggesting I call Gallatin Heights, and that is truly where it is, they would have already been warned about us bloggers and MB'rs, and would just deny everything. However if they are not very good actors, I could put my intuition/ESP to use.

Cami on March 23, 2010 at 10:59 pm
    • Okay- from sluething I will be VERY shocked if it is Gallatin Heights development in Bozeman, Montana…I don't know enough to officially rule it out, but a little birdy pointed me in a direction that it is highly unlikely…no 100% answer yet.

Our Army Family on March 23, 2010 at 8:41 pm
  5. So the latest "quick vote" on the quick page asks if we think the next Dream Home will be near the ocean, near a mountain, near a big city, or by a babbling creek…or something fairly close to that. Hmmm…there have been several by the ocean, a couple in the mountains, and I'm no so sure that they would do it in a big city (I don't know what do you think?)…so…I'm going with babbling creek. ANY THOUGHTS? Also, does anyone remember the choices from the similiar quick vote about a month or so ago? I remember one of the water choices was worded a little oddly.

Our Army Family on March 23, 2010 at 7:42 pm
    • I'm with you Our Army Family, I also chose the babbling creek. (By the way, I was going to short cut and use just the 1st letters of your identity, until I read it!!) I chuckled and changed.

JWmson on March 23, 2010 at 7:54 pm
      • Yep- one person made me aware of that…oh well, not changing the name again and someone else a little bit more niave used it not realizing what it spelled. Oh well, I guess I am an Oaf…you can always go with "armyfam" or something ;o)

Our Army Family on March 23, 2010 at 7:55 pm
        • Absolutely no offense intended. I'm new so didn't read a previous comment. I enjoy reading all the blogs although it does eat a lot of time. Take care.

JWmson on March 23, 2010 at 10:27 pm
          • None taken. One thing that speeds up reading the blog is if you sign up under Intense Debate (option above). Then your name will show in blue. Once you do that it will track your comments and it will also send you a direct email when someone replies directly to your comment…you can glance quickly at your email to see if you want to respond or not and when it is working right it will even link you straight back to the comment so that you don't have to wade through conversations again. It may look like I am on a lot, but I just have it down to a science that allows me to quickly browse for new stuff when I have time.

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 1:09 am
          • Thanks! I was wondering what that meant. Now I know and I did it.

JWmson on March 24, 2010 at 1:29 pm
    • If you are going with babbling creek, then why not Gallatin Heights dev.? What is this little birdie telling you? Which direction is this birdie flying? Maybe you need to take a look at the development map. It has babbling creeks all around it and through it.

Cami on March 23, 2010 at 10:40 pm
      • I looked…I can't say yet- when we find out for sure (right or wrong) I will let you know what I heard from a little birdie.

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 1:11 am
    • I think one of the choices last month was "close to a waterfall", so hmmmm. Could be a babbling creek with a waterfall nearby, it could be a little waterfall. Last month I was thinking Hawaii because of the waterfall choice, mostly because that is where I wanted it to be.

Cami on March 23, 2010 at 11:33 pm
      • There are a lot of big waterfalls in Montana too. If the poll ever gives the choice "close to several hot springs" I will be certain 99.9 %.

Cami on March 24, 2010 at 12:25 am
        • Don't get me wrong, Montana would be a great place.

          • Master planned community in Montana http://www.starlingmontana.com/index.php Is this the little birdie you were talking about? A starling?

Here is the other new master planned community in Bozeman Montana http://www.gallatinheights.com/discover_gallatin_

Cami on March 24, 2010 at 3:26 am
          • http://www.stallionridgeranch.com/ Here is another one -in Helena Montana. I like Gallatin better, but it is still early. If they do give us clues, you know they aren't to tell us where it is, right? They usually give us clues to lead us away from the real location, or to have us so confused we don't know which direction it is. So we won't steal their thunder ; ) When everything is finally ready with the developer, the architect, and the DH team and all the websites are designed and online, then maybe we can get this party started. Usually by the time all is revealed the foundation is already poured ?? : ~ [ ???

Cami on March 24, 2010 at 3:44 am
          • I can't say what I know or how I know…but I can tell you I definitely don't know the location nor the state it is in…I can just tell you that Gallatin Heights isn't likely. I don't know anything one direction or the other on the other two or what state it is in. While a lot of us think Montana because of clues…which includes myself…who knows it could be a totally different area of the country…as to that- I really don't know…just that one bit of info.

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 4:06 am
          • You mean that one bit of info that you "can't say what I know or how I know". So my question is, what kind of a birdie is it? An HGTV employed mimicking bird? Or a bird that has run into the window too many times? Or is it a mimicking bird that always says the opposite of what it's master says? Like if it's master says West the birdie says East, or if he says in the mountains, the birdie says on the prairie, country-city, left-right, North-South, Pacific-Atlantic.

  6. Just saw this in a current real estate listing for a property site in San Pedro Overlook:
" Includes natural gas, water, high speed Comcast cable, community center, pool and fitness center coming in 2011." It's worded a little oddly…I am hoping that comcast cable is already there. As for the community center, pool and fitness center- maybe that is why we didn't get to see pictures of the pool and stuff like people asked.

  7. The vacation was great, short, but great. Sometimes, you have to get away to relax, you know? We stayed at Hawk's Cay, which is just south of Islamorada (former Dream Home location). It is a nice, relaxing location with many islands and a lot of happy people. You should go!! Yes, I am a Jamie Durie fan…. I love his honesty, looks, accent and attitude. I have told my husband, so I don't have to feel guilty..hehheee.. We can all have some cutie to dream about….. We will have to find the best lip gloss to keep the drooling a bay……. just in case we meet him!!! Talk to you soon and take care!!!

  8. I would absolutely love love love it if when it became time to decorate the DH2011 if you guys would bring on Candice Olson and David Bromstad. Now don't get me wrong I love the designers for the last DH, but those two are my absolute FAVORITE designers.

Tylisha Manso on March 24, 2010 at 1:26 am
    • Tylisha….. I love Candice and David as well!!! Sometimes, they do include a guest designer…. Wouldn't that be awesome to bring them both aboard for the DH2011!!! I agree with you ….. I love Linda, but there is always room for improvement……

reneelovesgreen on March 24, 2010 at 1:42 am
      • I like Linda's work too…though I have to agree with Tylisha (cool name) that some newer talent with fresh ideas might be refreshing too.

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 2:09 am
        • I too agree. That's a great idea. All three of them are really awesome designers and I love them all too. I also think between the three of them they might be able to come up with some new and exciting ideas. P.S. Tylisha, I also think your name is very pretty and original.

  9. With no hints coming from headquarters about the next Dream Home location, maybe we'll get some clues about when to expect more videos and insights into Myra Lewis' DH 2010 winner's journey so far.

I just have to say, and not in a negative way
We're ready, we're rested, now our patience is tested
There's no time to lose, a new blog thread we'd choose….

Can't wait one more day, for soon wander we may
It's only suggested, but this win's been digested
Please bring us the news, we're desperate for clues!

  10. cami: I have been known to blab a few times, and creek when I get out of my chair, but for waterfalls, you've got to go to Michigan. I took a photographic tour and was amazed at the results Aw, shucks, has anyone seen Jack T. snooping around lately?

Katydid on March 24, 2010 at 3:20 am
    • Washington state has waterfalls…but there weren't any northwest options. Hey maybe one really big waterfall like Niagra falls ;o)

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 4:07 am
      • They didn't give us any NW options because that's where it is ; ) That may not make any sense to you, but it makes perfect sense to me. They don't want you to know until they are ready to reveal.

Cami on March 24, 2010 at 5:17 am
        • Makes sense. Gee- if the Pacific Northwest is on the table, then in Washington you can have a mountain, an ocean, a creek, and a big city all right by you…well- you can have a creek running through your property and all of the rest within an hour's drive or one closer than the others ;o)

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 2:06 pm
  11. LOL !!! Katydid. Oh, where in the world is MR. JACK THOMASSON? Give us the darn location or we'll take our dreams and run! (Just kidding, we're to dream dependant)

Ya know bloggers the message board has emoticons-all kinds of faces, cookies and donuts and coffee/hotchocolate to serve, it is an emotional wonderland. You can edit till everything is just perfect. Ahhhhh, if only it weren't so lonely over there. Sigh.

  12. MARY: Hope you have been enjoying your vacation because we need you back here soon. Are you having trouble figuring out how to make the clues for the location of the next DH? Here's an idea. Is it east, west, north or south of the DH in New Mexico? Can you reach it by boat, road, horse or camel? New thread, please.

Katydid on March 24, 2010 at 4:10 am
    • Show Me has a great idea for MARY to start off our Dream Home search with—some really vague clue like the GPS coordinates. At least we'd be able to start looking in the right direction….

DBCoop on March 24, 2010 at 4:51 am
  13. Hey Katydid: It's been awhile…I've missed our banter, but here's a place to think about when you want a waterfall, or two, or three, or four….how about hundreds of waterfalls?? Just take the road to Hana in Maui! It is a bit dangerous with approximately 600 curve and 54 bridges, but the Road to Hana can bring you closer to heaven in more ways than one. Hey what a fabulous idea….why not have the next Dream Home built in Hana, Maui??? What an interesting concept to have a home at the end of the road to Hana in "The Land That Time Forgot!" Do you think there is a moratorium on building there? Do you think that maybe our illustrious Jack is sipping Chi Chi's in a hidden spot that only the local Hawaiians hold close to their hearts? Aloha my friends, and Mahalo to HGTV!!!

Marie Miller on March 24, 2010 at 12:44 pm
  14. Coop: I love your idea of the island plantation-style home in Kuai, which gets its name from the sugarcane and pineapple plantations, which employed the design for laborer homesteads. Anywhere in the Hawaiian Islands would be unbelievable!! I would love to soak up some of the Aloha Spirit and dream of owning a humble Island Abode!!! I would even go so far as to take up Hula lessons to properly belong there! What do you think about HGTV building something like a NeoClassical as the one in the following site?

    http://www.dreamhomesource.com/plantation_house-p

    Tell me what you think?

Marie Miller on March 24, 2010 at 12:57 pm
  15. Hmmm…10 am…no new blog…no hints. I am wondering if maybe we aren't getting clues in the fact that maybe HGTV hasn't finalized all of their details yet and so they can't reveal the next location. Option 2- they are waiting to reveal it on the t.v. special when they show the Green Home (please no- that's too long to wait). Or Option 3- maybe we will find out on Friday so that it will give us something to talk about all weekend. Or Option 4- I really have no clue and am just throwing out options ;o)

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 2:10 pm
    • With taxes we now know will be going up crazily. I'm only interested if the dream home
is in a place with a great tax rate as that would bring it to the reality we are facing now.
Otherwise, it's not that great of a dream home that it could of been, just a place to sell
& then build where it's favorable to live.

PFG on March 24, 2010 at 2:48 pm
      • I was looking that up for something else a couple of weeks ago…I can't find all of my old links, but here is some of the scoop. It deals with best places tax-wise to retire…even though I am at least 30 years off from retirement ;o)
Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming—have no state income tax.
Ten states—Alabama, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New York and Pennsylvania—exclude all federal, military and in-state government pensions from taxation.

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 2:58 pm
        • Glad I'm not alone with these requirements as a must. :o ) Taxes have changed drastically everywhere in the last 10 yrs. What we find online is so outdated in the large majority of all data. You almost have to go to each states financial mgt divisions to research individually. From property taxes, licensures, professionals, business tax info, it's huge to do with the research.
We so need a company to update it. It was done in late 90's by a firm for retirement purposes as I have that book with all the breakouts for then.

I've looked this up many times, but most of the data I recall that you have access to is old & they want you to pay for the new correct info. So much has changed in 10 yrs & drastically for some states. If I recall AL was the best tax state overall back then with all taxable fees & living expenses. Then I remember it to be TN as 2nd, & not seeing it here now on your list? Maybe, my mistake with actual living expenses by state?

      • Five states—Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon—have no state sales tax (although Oregon is considering adding one). At the other extreme, California’s newly increased sales tax of 8.25% is the highest statewide sales tax in the nation. **My own personal note- WA has a higher tax of like 8.1- depends on the county as to how high.**
Based on data from a 2007 Census Bureau survey and Tax Foundation calculations, the five states with the lowest median real estate taxes (from lowest to highest) are Louisiana, Alabama, West Virginia, Mississippi and Arkansas. States with the highest median real estate taxes (from highest to lowest) are New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York and Rhode Island.

      • From another resource:
Top 10 Tax-Friendly Places to Live
One can't avoid paying taxes, but the place a person calls home can make a big difference in the year-end tax bill. Each year, the Tax Foundation, a nonprofit policy research group, ranks each of the 50 states and Washington, D.C., according to the state and local tax burden borne by residents of those areas.
        Alaska
        Rank: No. 1
        Tax Burden: 6.6% of income
Alaska residents pay the lowest state taxes. They do not pay state income or sales tax. They even get tax refunds from the government because of the excess revenue it collects from companies extracting oil from the state.
        New Hampshire
        Rank: No. 2
        Tax Burden: 8% of income
No personal income tax gives New Hampshire residents low state taxes.
        Tennessee

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 3:06 pm
      • Rank: No. 3
        Tax Burden: 8.5% of income
Tennessee residents pay some of the lowest state taxes because they only owe income tax on dividends and interest.
        Delaware
        Rank: No. 4
        Tax Burden: 8.8% of income
No sales tax is another policy that gives Deleware residents some of the lowest state taxes in the country.
        Alabama
        Rank: No. 5
        Tax Burden: 8.8% of income
Alabama is an especially tax-friendly place for seniors, offering retirees nice tax breaks that add up to low state taxes.
        Oklahoma
        Rank: No. 6
        Tax Burden: 9% of income
The highest state income tax rate for Oklahoma, 6.25%, is actually among the lowest state taxes paid across the nation

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 3:06 pm
        • This is CNN information with data gathered in 2007

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 6:21 pm
        • When considering a great Dream Home location, the only tax I worry about is property tax, because I likely wouldn't be buying anything other than food, which is often not taxed. You usually only pay State income tax in the state you currently live in, when you recieve the taxable income. My State is one that doesn't have a State income tax. Yet.

Cami on March 24, 2010 at 6:43 pm
          • Like I told PFG, I looked most of this up prior for other reasons…it isn't something that I was taking into consideration for the dream home. We were looking into it to see what state we would want to settle down in after my husband retires out of the Army…though we have a LONG time until that. As for your comment- if you won the DH, then are you saying that you wouldn't move to the dream home…because that would then be your home state and where you get taxed which is I think PFG's point…whether it be income tax or on things you buy like clothing, etc. We ar lucky because we are military and for as long as my husband is military we keep our state of record for taxes- so, we come from a non-income tax state. IF I was looking at taxes for the DH, which wasn't my initial, then I would also only be concerned with property tax as that would be the big factor on monthly expeditures and keeping the house.

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 8:39 pm
      • South Dakota
        Rank: No. 7
        Tax Burden: 9% of income
Those looking for low state taxes should target places like South Dakota that do not charge personal income tax.
        Texas
        Rank: No. 8
        Tax Burden: 9.3% of income
Tax-friendly places such as Texas may have one of the highest sales tax rates in the country, but does not charge a personal income tax. So residents who spend less (or have less to spend) will shoulder less of the tax burden.
        Wyoming
        Rank: No. 9
        Tax Burden: 9.5% of income
For low state taxes turn to Wyoming, which not only lacks state income tax, but its sales tax rate is below average at 5%.
        Montana
        Rank: No. 10
        Tax Burden: 9.7% of income
Shop 'til you drop in Montana and still pay lowest state taxes, since there is no sales tax charged in this state.

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 3:06 pm
        • There's Cami's Montana on that list…hmmm…maybe she has something

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 3:07 pm
      • Sure after that new research I find my original source. So here is the break down (not my words):
        Tax Burden By State
If all other things are equal, a state with a lower burden is a more attractive place to retire than a state with a higher one. To get a true sense of which state is less expensive, you need to look at state and local tax burdens. Only then do the low tax states stand out.
It is estimated by the Tax Foundation that the nation as a whole will pay on average 9.7% of its income in state and local taxes in 2008, down from 9.9% in 2007 primarily because income grew faster than tax collections between 2007 and 2008. This is the latest report the Tax Foundation has issued. (cont.)

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 3:14 pm
      • New Jersey residents paid 11.8%, topping the charts. New Yorkers were close behind, paying 11.7%, and Connecticut was third at 11.1%. The top 10 were rounded out by Maryland (10.8%), Hawaii (10.6%), California (10.5%), Ohio (10.4%). Vermont (10.3%), Wisconsin (10.2%) and Rhode Island (10.2%).
Alaskans pay the least, 6.4 percent in 2008, but Nevada is close at 6.6 percent. In four states the residents pay between 7 and 8 percent of their income in state and local taxes: Wyoming (7.0%), Florida (7.4%), New Hampshire (7.6%) and South Dakota (7.9%). Four other states round out the bottom 10: Tennessee (8.3%), Texas (8.4%), Louisiana (8.4%) and Arizona (8.5%).

      • The actual data of living in these states year to date with the posted online data is so off target & out of date. That I wish we could have a breakout for all the criterion for each state that would bring it to an actual relative view we can all see into real hard figures that continously are overlooked. It has to all do with marketing & who's paying for the research as it always does.

Using an proposed income amounts of like maybe, $40,000, 80,000 & 120,000, 160,000+ for examples.
So we break out most common useful tax rates via a chart, alpha or clustered by most useful.
State tax rate rates, fuel tax rates, liquor tax rates, cig tax rates, food tax rates, etc.
Property tax rates, vehicle tax rates, business licenses, professional licenses, registrations, etc.
Sales tax rates, City tax rates, County Tax rates, etc.
State fees: parking, hotel, airport, hospital fees, etc.
        Exemptions & who, what, etc.
No one has current data for over 10 years that I've found. It would be a great selling book of info

PFG on March 24, 2010 at 4:22 pm
        • The first set of information was listed as 2007-8…with some of it being written by CNN money in 2009-10. I don't know the dates on the last resource, but I know that it has other breakout areas for things like military exemptions. I'm sure everything changes year to year- especially in this economy which isn't just hitting individuals but local governments as well.

I bet Mary gives us some info very soon…. and then stretch it throughout the Green Home process….. I am just excited to see what type of home is built and how many innovative and green features are included…..

  16. Dream Home to be built in state with great tax rate? Which is best? Since I'm not into paying for anyone's medical that won't/don't & decide not to do it for themselves that can & then have it mandated. I wish they would build a dream home in a state like Wyoming where personal income are not assessed with this state? NV & FL don't either, but have other assessed costs that are relative to it, but that's my understanding? I wished we would ask for a Dream home in a state where taxes are best is my way of thinking. You get the best of all worlds, a home, great taxes, an ideal community. It's a crazy huge amount of 984 billion in the next ten years that's required. My portion will being astronomical, middle & lower tier taxpayers paying way more for taxes as we have no choice. Got to do taxes yet, but I would like to see a dream home built where it's all the more lucrative with required expenses all they way around?
Who's of this mindset with me?

    • Absolutely!!!

  17. Bonding with a child while reading a book is one of my favorite activities and has helped my son love to read. While my husband travels, my son logs into skype to show his dad what he is reading.

Long-distance relationships are difficult enough to maintain among adults, but when young kids are involved, the chances of achieving a meaningful conversation from afar tend to diminish. That's where Readeo comes in, with a newly launched platform that lets families share bedtime stories through the web.

The Chicago-based company's patent-pending application integrates digitised picture books with webcam communication, allowing adults and children to share stories while seeing and interacting with each other. A diverse library is available on the site, including titles from publishers such as Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, Candlewick Press, Blue Apple Books and Chronicle Books. The library is fully searchable, and families can create personalised virtual bookshelves of their favourites. A Book of the Month is available to all users for free, but unlimited use of the site costs USD 9.95 per month or USD 49.95 per year.

With its focus on stories, Readeo promises a new point of connection for families separated by travel, divorce, military service or just geographic dispersion.

reneelovesgreen on March 24, 2010 at 3:00 pm
    • How fun! Sounds like something Show Me and I could use. I was just saying the other day that we needed to diversify and upgrade our conversations. We spend too much time chatting about the Dream Home, Green Home and the Blog Cabin. I don't know if that's healthy.

I suggested that we could discuss politics, but Show Me said there's nothing of import to discuss there, and besides, there's nothing intellectual about political discourse in this country anyway.

Perhaps by using Readeo, we could share my Poem of the Month even when I'm away traveling. That would give us at least 5 good minutes of quality communication before lapsing into banalities again!

Now, speaking of maintaining long-distance relationships, is it time for MARY to feed her ever-hungry blog sharks with a new thread yet? Go ahead, MARY, cast a line and see what you can reel in! There's bound to be a feeding frenzy from all of your loyal bloggers as we rush in to devour each tasty morsel.

DBCoop on March 24, 2010 at 4:04 pm
      • I will have to see that one!!! You have given me a good laugh today…. I think you are "both" very healthy, entertaining and intelligent. YEAH MARY…… where's the new thread…… ???? Your Loyal Subjects!!!……

reneelovesgreen on March 24, 2010 at 4:17 pm
    • It's surprising as it sounds good, useful & practical. I wonder if there is a copyright infringement with digitizing children's books without paying copyright fees? Just a thought it has with me. Amazon in my
mind got luck with only paying a non double digit million dollar copyright fee for it's kindles.
Probably this company has already broke this ground so good for them. It's seems kind of a high rate unless you were to use it often. I like the personal touch, with book in hand, but like you say, if out of town, or most common divorce to keep that parent involved as if they choose to?.

PFG on March 24, 2010 at 4:44 pm
      • I thought of that too…. I am sure that they will include only books that are part of a kick back to the original publisher….. I like the personal touch too, but wouldn't it be great to include Grannie and Papa to read on special occasions to help build that special bond!! Thanks, PFG….

reneelovesgreen on March 24, 2010 at 11:39 pm
    • Hi Renee! Thanks for sharing Readeo with us. I had not heard about it and will pass this along to some families I know. What a great concept!

I have a good friend who recently wrote and published a children's book. You can read about it in my blog… http://www.cocobunga.com. It is definitely too young for your son, however if you know of anyone who has smaller children, it is a cute little story and there will be others about "Posy Pinkham" to follow.

Just thought I'd spread word for my friend along to my HGTV blogger friends! ;)

      Hope all is well!

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 8:41 pm
      • The United Through Reading program allows deployed service members to record themselves reading a book to their children and then mails the recording and the book back home to the serviceman’s family for free. Have you heard about this program? Your family should never have to pay to keep the bond between dad and child(ren)…. At least, the way I see it!!

reneelovesgreen on March 24, 2010 at 11:36 pm
        • My mother in law and sister in law do that with skype, because my sister in law is working over seas. (she helps to set up schools and orphanages there). They read those book to my nice and nephew every night and I think it a great way to stay close to them. It's a wonderful thing to have. Although we miss them terribly, It helps a lot just to be able to see their sweet faces and to see them smile when we tell them all we love them. Well, Have a great night.

          • Thank you for bringing it up. It's such a wonderful thing to have especially when someone you love soooo much can't be there with you right then. She is a remarkable person and has given so much to these helpless people and we try to do everything to help her out. She has also had to put up with a lot of roadblocks to get these things even started. So my hats off to her as well for hanging in there to do what is right. Well, you have a great night too. You are awesome too. Keep dreaming big. P.S. Still looking for a great lip gloss. HE!! HE!!

  22. Myra Lewis, what day/night did HGTV actually film you at the "ambush"?
No one seems to be saying.
    We are all curious.

    ~OKay~ on March 24, 2010 at 7:05 pm
  23. In the spirit of this thread-
I wonder what Myra and family are doing and thinking now?
I think they are planning their reunion and the winners weekend,
and dancing and are happy and giggly and giddy, as they well should be.
I wonder if Myra still thinks it must be a dream every time she wakes up, or has it finally sunken in.
I'll bet Chris is inspired and is happily painting away, with cheerful swooping strokes of his brush, while he sings a happy tune. I'll bet when Myra's sister walks across the street to visit her sister she is smiling and humming, with a spring in her step. I am happy for all of them : o )

Now for us bloggers it is time to sober up, so I am offering coffee/tea/milk and donuts all day long. Stop in. I am also baking yummy chocolate chip cookies. Can you smell them?

Cami on March 24, 2010 at 7:05 pm
    • Yep… I wonder how she is feeling right now…… and I can imagine that Chris will create several amazing scenes from the view of the DH alone…. I am not ready to sober up, so I will sip a little more on my chardonnay …… Thanks for the wonderful smell…hehehe..

reneelovesgreen on March 24, 2010 at 11:59 pm
  24. So, I had a thought or an idea…the last DH had a lot of great artwork…and a lot of people on here mentioned that they do artwork in some form…maybe HGTV can give us a venue where we can digitally submit art (meaning a picture of the actual piece- they would get the actual piece if they chose to use it) for consideration to be used in the next DH. It wouldn't be a guarantee that they would for sure use any of the submissions, but it would give an avenue for which they would have choices and it might possibly give some budding artists publicity…I guess like a virtual gallery for the designers to "shop" from.

Our Army Family on March 24, 2010 at 8:47 pm
    • Hi Our Army Family. Hope all is well with you and you family. I think that's an awesome idea and maybe they could have a little contest or something to choose a few artists. Also, like you said, maybe they can use a few for the designers to choose from. Personally, from what I've read, I would welcome seeing some of their work. I know that I'd be interested. You rock. Have a great evening and keep dreaming big.

HGTVLVR on March 25, 2010 at 1:56 am
    • Hello Our Army Family!
That is an excellent idea and I hope someone at HGTV sees it!

      Cheers!

Sylvia on March 25, 2010 at 10:24 am
    • Maybe one of our blogging artist could put together a small site with the links leading to all who want to feature their work. That way we can all shop the virtual gallery, including HGTV and their designers, homeowners, etc… Great networking and we should always do what we can to help keep art alive!!! Now, we need to keep fighting to keep it in schools!! Maybe, implementing it into the site to make more aware and start a group….. Good work, Our Army Family…. (don't worry, I will not shorten your name….hehehe)

  28. Sandia Park is closer to Albuquerque than Santa Fe. Hope Myra likes to drive alot. It also snows here in New Mexico so I'm wondering will Myra make the big move to New Mexico or just stay in New Orleans? HGTV"s rules stated that they pulled several names in the contest. They're all about image so of course they have to do background checks (no child molesters or wife beaters and such) and pick the best winner to pull in the revenue from advertisers. That is why they always made the home seem near Santa Fe rather than near Albuquerque because Santa Fe has a better cachet than Albuquerque. So you dreamers of the next home , let's hope your story pulls at the corporate heart strings of HGTV because otherwise you don't have much of a chance.

gremol on March 30, 2010 at 9:01 pm
  31. Personally, when I saw the house she was already living in I was angry. She already has a nice house! I think the house should have gone to someone (like me) who lives in a crappy, broken down, leaky trailer. So she went thru a hurricane. I've gone thru three of them. In one of them I had to walk five miles thru breast deep freezing water in the dark! In another I had just gone thru back surgery. Sorry to be a buzz killer, but I guess what the Bible says is true: to who has much, more will be given. To who has little, even that will be taken away. It's disgusting.

    • How Sad!! But you are missing the point. This is just a drawing and 40 million people entered. It is not based on circumstances or personal stories. No matter how bad off you may be there will always be someone worse off than you. And that person would be upset that you won. Do you also get angry with lottery winners?? Its no different except that to enter this, its free. Try to be possitive. And good things come to good people.
