The 2011 Location?
Good day, bloggers.
Well, I must say that this was a great HGTV Dream Home season. I want to sincerely thank you for your energy and talents. It is such a pleasure to read our blog. You are some of the most positive, interesting (not to mention talented) bloggers around.
Here are my top 5 favorite blog discussions from this season:
- Intense discussion on bears and other wildlife
- Haiku contest
- Monica’s wrap contest

- How you would spend your perfect day at the DH
I am doing my best to get some intel out of Jack on the HGTV Dream Home 2011 location.(Knowing Jack, he will say that the next home will be north, east or west of this year’s home. But you can’t blame a girl for trying.) Where do you think the 2011 location will be? Care to share your guesses?
If you are wondering how to fill your time until the next HGTV Dream Home is revealed, please join me on the HGTV Green Home blog. My first “sneak peek” videos have already launched. I hope to see you there. Let the greaming begin!
Your Super Fan,
Gail

I look forward to seeing the 2011 dream home come to life. I'm crossing my fingers for a Minneapolis, MN area dream home, oh yeah, and to win it. *laughs* My family and I are stuck in Florida while my extended family is in Minnesota. Eh, dreamin' big
Besides, it's fun to watch the whole thing unfold from land to finished product. I love the details and watching everyone's hard work come together so wonderfully. Cheers to you Gail. Excellent blogs.
Sara G., I also have extended family in the Minneapolis suburbs and I live in Florida (no surprise there)! I would love to see the DH2011 there. In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, there is plenty of shoreline on which to build a home, and oodles of charming hamlets. If it were possible, I would love to see the home in one of the following locations: downtown Wayzata (shiver at the thought of paying property taxes on the shore of Minnetonka); Stillwater; or, the Nisswa area. Where were you thinking?
And, why would you want to leave Florida, when we Floridians: don't have to pay income tax, don't have to shovel snow, have the ocean within an hour of almost any location; don't have to fly to visit Disneyworld, etc.? Everyone has a different view of things, and I would love to know why you say you are "stuck" in Florida. Naturally, as a native Minnesotan, I know that there are so many amazing things about Minnesota; so, I know why you would want to move back!
Jan, I agree and feel bad that Sara is "stuck" in Florida…. I am thinking that she really misses her family and yearns for their company more than the environment she lives in. (just guessing) I am having a blast here and planing to travel to the Keys again this coming week for my son's spring break. Do you travel back to Minneapolis often? So many things to do in Florida, what are the activities that you would suggest in in MN?? Curious, as I have never been…….
The Keys, again! I am so happy for you! Goodness, you are making me think a little harder on getting those plans in order for myself. Maybe this fall we will have the time to get away. What to do in Minnesota? May I suggest:
>Wayzata and the Lake Minnetonka area. The charming town of Wayzata is right on Lake Minnetonka and is quaint, beautiful and well heeled. Wonderful small shops, bakeries (stop at Woullet's Bakery… nummy), wonderful architecture and georgous lake views. It's the 90210 of the Midwest. Take the drive along Lake Minnetonka and take in a play at the darling Old Log Theater.
> Nestled on the shoreline of the St. Croix River is a little treasure: the beautiful town of Stillwater. Walk the sidewalks past quaint architecture going back to the 1850's, in which you will find wonderful antiques, boutiques and restaurants. The main street overlooks the river, and behind the darling shops, a picturesque neighborhood of closely packed and lovingly cared for homes line steep streets. May I recommend the killer German restaurant just outside of town.
Continued…
> White Fish Chain of Lakes: deep blue gems filled with trout, bass and walleye, surrounded by pine and shade trees. Wonderful restaurants, boutique shopping, beautiful golf courses, resorts, boutique hotels. A slice of heaven.
-Throughout Minnesota: Amazing golf courses.
-Duluth, Minnesota. Views, shopping , and more golfing. My favorite golf course there is Superior National. Once, when I was teeing off, a mother bear and her cubs walked across the fairway in front of me (I started calculating just how fast I could sprint to the golf cart, if needed). I would make the drive to stay at The Naniboujou Lodge and Restaurant (a former gentlemen's club built in the 1920's, it is on the historic register); and, if you can't stay there, at least have dinner there. I still remember the strawberry soup.
Continued…
> Looking for more amazing shopping that even your husband will enjoy? Go to the Mall of America (MOA to the locals)! Schedule your trip on the same day as a Twins game and take the beautiful train ride right from MOA to the domed stadium. Even those who feel baseball is boring will find the experience worth the time. This is no ordinary train ride… Minneapolis is a proud city, and they did this right. You will even enjoy your fellow travelers. This is a town where the locals will strike up a friendly conversation with the strangers around them, and the men still offer their seat to a lady and open their door.
There is so much more…! The Guthrie Theater… Science Museum… Art Museum… I could type all night!
Oops, forgot to answer your question… yes, I get back to Minnesota 3 to 4 times a year.
Hi! I'll go along with the Nisswa area or how about Little Falls? Please ,if it's Mn. don't let it be Wayzata. That is an expensive area. Just my little 2 cents worth! Thanks for listening.
Well… JWmson… I was just dreaming…
There can't be any available property left (unless they are going to give away a houseboat and dock it on Wayzata Bay), so it's not possible. Just love that town.
Little Falls is a fabulous location. I spent quite a bit of time there. If you know the area, remember the drug store… way back when… that used to have a soda fountain? Love Little Falls. What a wonderful suggestion.
Hi Jan of Fl., I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but I have a bit of trouble finding all these different blogs. I guess that tells you I'm old enough to remember way back when in Little falls, but I wasn't around there until some years after that apparent time frame. I lived in Pensacola, 2yrs(military} and son was stationed in Orlando(military), but I'm not a big of Fl., I like my exteme season changes! Crazy huh? Altho,I would have moved to the southwest and been very happy. I really love all of the U.S.A. I'm proud of it all the time. Take care.
Once you have a lot it's all easy from there except for identifying the exact style you want to go for. Then it's easy, then its comes together fluidly with having the hard choices made.
I cannot seem to be able to subscribe and write my own comment, but for super fan, i was watching HGTV late night and jumped for joy when the said next dream home Cape Cod. Did i imagine this??? Has the location not been revealed?
The 2010 Green Home is located close to Cape Cod — maybe this is what you saw?
Minneapolis! I think that a beach home in Lewes, Delaware would be perfect. Lewes is a quaint beach town that connects with Cape May NJ via the Ferry.
The East coast has some wonderful areas. It could have geothermal heat, have Solar panels, an on demand water heater, a well and septic system. That should make it toatally self sufficient. You can tell I am visualizing a home I would love to live in. Linette C
I WAS KIND OF HOPING THE 2011 DREAM HOME WOULD BE BUILT IN GEORGIA, ON LAKE LANIER
SINCERELY
FRANKLIN A. SMITH USN RETIRED
2367 SWAN LAKE DRIVE
GRAYSON, GEORGIA 30017
Hi Franklin, Thanks for your service to our country. God Bless you.
I'm right behind you on that SaraG. I live in Mn. and would love to see it happen. Keep dreaming Big!!!
That would be nice! I'm hoping for more westward. maybe South Dakota. LOL
Gallatin Heights development in Bozeman Montana. Lot 34 or 35.
Babbling streams aplenty, especially around lots 34 and 35. Babbling streams is currently a poll choice on main DH page. Montana is home to many waterfalls. Waterfalls was a choice in a poll last month. Montana was a choice in a poll last month.
Gallatin Heights is a new development beginning this spring.
http://gallatinheights.com/discover_gallatin_heig…
Have a looksee
Even though it is smaller than lot 34, lot 35 at 1.35 acres has more stream frontage (on the side) and lot 34 is completely surrounded by the trail, with the stream on the otherside of the trail.
hmmm. could that sudden turn in the stream on the side of the lot, actually be a waterfall?
Didn't someone say that 2011 DH would be bigger and better. With lots, being less expensive here, would that allow for a bigger house with a spa and pool? 1.35 acres is plenty of room for a nice big house.
Well, between lots 34 and 35, I'd be hard pressed to choose my favorite. I think that would definitely be an onsite decision, so maybe Jack has already scoped them out and can fill us in on the thinking behind his choice.
Next time you get Jack on the phone, GAIL, casually mention Gallatin Heights, and see if there's a long pause from Jack's side! (And of course, report back with any suspicious behavior…)
Big sky Country… Home, home on the range… Montana would be less expensive. It has that wild west, and untamed areas. It is the last best place… besides Alaska!
Just had a looksee at Gallatin Heights ….SO Nice!
I swore i saw commercial saying the dream home would be in Cape Cod mass. I often dream these strange things but i am pretty sure thats what they said
The Green Home is close to Cape Cod Mass this year, maybe that's what you saw.
I have done my research and concluded on three premier locations for the HGTV Dream Home 2011 or, if they have already have selected this year's, 2012. In order from most relevant to least, but still amazing:
1) Anchorage, Kentucky- for its great schools, high income, proximity to large cities and its in horse country.
2) Two Harbors, Minnesota- for its superior location on Lake Superior (short boat ride from Isle Royale), proximity to Duluth-Superior MSA, cute little town, and arts and craft architecture.
3) Soldotna, Alaska- for its views of the Aurora Borealis, recreation, wildlife, and beautiful mountain scenery along Sterling Highway. (Or, Fairbanks, AK)
So which is your favorite?
I'm usually drawn to the warmer, more southerly locations (all things being equal) and in this case, from behind door number 1, 2, or 3, I'll stay true to form, and pick number 1, Anchorage, Kentucky.
This small town, with a population of about 3,000, is a hop, skip and quick drive from Louisville. It's home to some former large old estates of wealthy Louisville families, as well as newer upscale homes. Anchorage has a famous resident, Papa John's Pizza founder John Schnatter, who owns about 6% of the town's land. His stated goal is to "preserve the city's character." In this heavily treed town, part of the downtown area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I'd say, from what I've read, Anchorage, KY is entitled to well-deserved bragging rights about the beauty of its surroundings, its long-standing history, and plenty of Kentucky Bluegrass charm.
Who knows, maybe Jack Thomasson felt the same attraction to the town, and is enjoying one of those Papa John's Pizza's at this very moment while tying up the final details on Dream Home 2011.
WOW….. great info again…. I started to think about Jack delivering the location out of a pizza box… or one the stage playing bluegrass….. hehehe
I also think Anchorage, Kentucky is a good pick…close enough to military bases ;o) or rather Army bases to be exact.
Kentucky sounds wonderful! Or NC! Also would love to know what happens to the homes after people win. Do they wish they could change anything a year later?
I really like the idea of the Twin Harbor location proximity to Lake Superior, and town's that promote craft architecture. Your language here is describing these places is exquisite-like looking behind a camera, and capturing a shot. I personally have to do some further research on the areas you suggest and will do that when I return from L.A. On a shoot today.
Anchorage, KY so I won't have to move so far away! LOL
I had an 8th floor view in downtown Long Beach. I saw weather patterns rolling in, beautiful sunrises over miles of 2 – 4 story buildings, the curve of the beach, and the mountains in the background. I wonder if HGTV could convince the owners of an existing building to let them build a dream home on a roof. It could bring income to them. Include patio and big windows. Heaven.
How about an urban Dream Home??? NYC, Chicago, San Fran., Wouldn't that be great!
one option on the quick vote says big city- so you never know….?
Army family also. I agree an urban home would be great. Lord knows we're stuck out in the boonies most of the time. I've seen HGDV do urban homes and they're fab!
I would love an urban dream home, but if you are shooting for a $1.5 million value, you may have to be creative to get a "dream home" in new york city. I would suggest the DH team try to cut a deal with a developer in a place like Williamsburg or Brooklyn Heights or Long Island City, Queens. The DH team might score a two or three bedroom condo with a skyline view of Manhattan from a developer looking to bring attention to their already developed projects (like One Brooklyn Bridge or The Edge).
northsouthgal, I would LOVE a dream home in San Fran! That whole area is so dreamy! If they do so, I would ask that they make sure to build it on bedrock… so we wouldn't have to worry about liquefaction and the whole earthquake thing. But, hey, I would put up with a lot of jostling to have a home in San Francisco!
YES! an URBAN DREAM HOME! we need one!
Yep, San Francisco would be awesome! Come buy my victorian home with its sweeping views of SF downtown and SF bay. How I'd love to see it done up right!
From Gail: Where do you think the 2011 location will be? Care to share your guesses?
Hi, Gail!!! My family and I absolutely love all of your Blogs!!
Like many of our fellow bloggers, I am "dreaming" of and excited about the future location of the 2011 HGTV Dream Home. I love both Cami's and Ernie's future 2011 HGTV Dream Home location guesses–they sound absolutely dreamy.
I, too, think it would be wonderful if it was located in Montana. Oh, I do hope so, because if it is near a "babbling stream" or waterfall, it would be so beautiful and relaxing.
I enjoyed reading Ernie's descriptions of the beauty and great amenities of his three location guesses. Alaska and Minnesota sound very beautiful, but I love the amenities of Kentucky. For me, all three are excellent location choices.
I do not have any good guesses but only a few very hopeful wishes for a future Dream Home location: Perhaps in Oregon (along the coast) or one of the Islands of Hawaii (maybe Maui). Oh well, it is encouraging to Dream.
Wishing everyone well and Looking forward to the future 2011 HGTV Dream Home!!!
They did one (several years back ) along the Oregon coast not to far from Tillamook…so, I don't know on that one.
Oh, OK. Thanks, I did not know about this one. I am glad that HGTV had a Dream Home in Oregon. The coastal region of Oregon is very beautiful–what a gorgeous area that the winner of that year's Dream Home had to look forward to.
Thank you for the correction–Although most years I try to follow the HGTV Dream Home Giveaways, I think that this may have been one of the years that I was "distracted by some of life's circumstances" from that year's beautiful Dream Home. Well, enough about that.
Here is to looking forward to the 2010 Green Home in April and the new future 2011 HGTV Dream Home!!! (Oh, the location suspense is just too much to bear right now). They are definitely going to suprise everyone with this one. Yeah!!! and Double Yeah!!!
No Alaska! Too cold!
how about Sea Island, Ga…????
yes, Coastal Georgia got to love that location
Hello Super Fan GAIL, and welcome back with the start of the first Dream Home 2011 blog thread. How exciting! Now keep in mind that you'll probably have to use some strong-arm tactics with Jack T. He's not about to give out any Dream Home location information without a struggle….
My favorite vlog, by the way, is any one that features our Super Fan. How can you resist smiling along with GAIL's infectious enthusiasm about everything Dream-land related?! Hey, really, it's not just for brownie points! After all, if you're going to play the game, HAVE FUN, and GAIL always ups the amps when it comes to enjoying everything HGTV sweepstakes related.
So, fellow bloggers, saddle up and pull into the starting gate, 'cause things are going to be really heating up in no time at all…especially, as GAIL mentioned, over in Green-land!
I must agree. Gail's smiling enthusiasm is always a delight. I catch myself smiling along with her and my son walks in and says "mom, what are you smiling about"…. he always thinks that I am reading a joke or watching a funny video….
Hi Gail! Hoping for the SW… "where the skies are not cloudy all day." Thanks for asking!
Isn't that from the kansas State song? Home Home on the Range?
Hi Carri, Yes, that is the song that came to my mind, but I had no idea it was the Kansas state song! According to Wikipedia you are correct and thanks for letting me know! I've never been to Kansas and although it is probably very nice, I was thinking more of places like Wyoming, Montana, Arizona for example. It has been easy to fall in love with all the places the Dream Home Team have chosen as they have always been surrounded by beautiful nature. Can hardly wait to see where the Dream Home will be located this time!
Sorry Cami, just realized your name is Cami not Carri… please forgive my eyes!
Do I care to share my guesses about the next Dream Home location???? What a question, GAIL!
Wild bears couldn't keep me away…and that's saying a lot.
For starters, how about beginning with a Jack T kind of answer: I'll hazard a guess of north or east of DH2010—although that doesn't leave much wiggle room in case MARY's clues go south on me.
Though, bears have been one of our biggest blog topics, thanks to your fear…. hehehe…. Can't wait to see the creative way they appear in our next dream……….. And just praying for you that Show Me doesn't rent a "bear" suit and ring the door bell to get you back for the skipped heart beat you caused…. hehe…
Good afternoon, DBCoop. Do you think you could remove your response to my suggestion regarding entering long messages as responses to yourself? Then I could remove my original suggestion and your poem should show up "together" again.
Sorry, I should have thought to reply to a message other than one of those stanzas… I am blonde; perhaps there is something to that.
Also… I am wondering how reneeovesgreen was able to get around the restriction on the length of message (see her looooong message regarding an additive). See if you can compel her to give us the secret!
Jan_of_Fl: You must be on intense debate. We don't do length or stanzas here. Well, not unless you use "con't". If you have a beef with Coop and renee, please take it back to where it originated. We are simple folk here. (quote Gwen to Arthur).
Oh, bless your heart! You soooooooooooooooooooo misunderstood the message, but I can understand why, because it wasn't posted to you. It was a follow up from another message about a fantastic poem DBCoop had written. You really should read the poem, he did his usual great job.
Since you are interested… I had replied to the first stanza, so it threw the first stanza away from the rest of the poem. That's why the message was posted here, so we could get his poem "back together." Posting a message at the poem again, would just continue the mess.
The reference to reneelovesgreen's (who is aother lovely blogger) message length was a joke.
I haven't been posting that long, and I am not familiar with you. But all of our posts are happy, uplifting, friendly, messages; so, I am truly confused by your response.
I wish you well, Katydid.
Not to worry, Jan_of_FL. Thanks for the suggestion, but believe me, worse has happened to previous "segments" of my comments. Being an open blog, there are bumps and thumps in the road to posting that are expected. Any number of comments posted here, there, or anywhere is just fine.
Thanks for thinking of it, though.
Nashville Tennessee?
I'd second that area as a suggestion- also close to an Army base…heck, within commuting distance.
it definintaly needs to be somewhere around nashville like franklin or brentwood
Thanks for the new blog…sad to see no clues as to a location. I will have to do a little more thinking before giving out my guess…though I am liking the guesses in Kentucky and Tennessee as they are close to Fort Campbell…which is a big location for Army.
Yep… not even one little clue….. I have never visited Kentucky or Tennessee. Are there any cities that you have on your mind??? Any new developments? hmmm….
Never visited, but have researched the area when we were researching what bases we want to possibly go to in the future. My pick would probably be the greater Nashville area. This division isn't the side of Nashville that I wanted, but here is a possibility: http://www.whetstonetn.com/index.php
Glad you are thinking the same way I am. Kentucky and Barkley Lakes area would be perfect! There are so many opportunites for recreation and being close to Fort Campbell would be a plus. It is a short drive to Paducah and Nashville. Have you visited there? If not, you should plan on it. You would have a wonderful time with opportunites for fishing, swimming, boating, etc. Stop by the KY Welcome Center just off I-24 near Ft. Campbell and pick up a few brochures. Lots of places to explore.
We haven't, but we have it on our list of three "preferences" for possible future bases to be assigned to.
Fort Campbell is centrally located with Clarksville, TN, Hopkinsville KY, and many quaint little towns to visit. Oak Grove KY is right there – plans for a huge mall right at the intersection of I-24, and while you are on I-24, take a short drive to Barkley and Kentucky Lakes, State Parks with plenty entertainment, boating, fishing, horseback riding, swimming, camping and picinicing. If you look at the KY-TN map, you will see that the Lakes extend from KY to TN at Dover, just south of Clarksville. Hope you get to come to FTCKY.
Somewhere either warm, but not incessantly hot or too humid, or, even better, with a nice four seasons. Preferably, near an ocean, lake, or river. If not in a large(r) city no more than 30 miles or so from one. If in a city enviroment a spacious loft would be nice. Got to have good food. Mainly somewhere beautiful with a happy aura. So…I don't know where this place would be but HGTV please find it! Oh, and pet friendly. :]
Tay *Thanks for the reminder , and a BIG Yes to Pet Friendly ,Please HGTV, we can't move without our Furry Family.
Hey Tay, maybe you would like Tennessee. It has the most beautiful for seasons I have ever seen, spring, summer fall and winter! The Winter are mild here for the most part, except this year and I dont know of many places that didn't get some snow. We have a beautiful lake called South Holston Lake and it is clean and so beautiful and found right here in Bristol Tn. When you look across the lake, just where the lake ends the most beautiful mountains you will ever see begans…and they are huge!!! hope some day you can come for a vist… or maybe they will build the 2010 DR here
also the home of the fastest half mile track in Nascar!!!
Kentucky/Barkley Lake area in Western Kentucjky would be the place, not too far south or east. A short drive to Paducah KY and Nashville TN is just a nice drive away. HGTV could not go wrong on this choice., as this is a beautiful, scenic State Parks area with many opportunies for recreation, great restaurants, surrounded by quaint, interesting little towns in which to visit.
yes pet friendly TN would be a great place
Fort Davis Texas? Bigger and better..
I'd like either coronado california or VA Beach, VA
Virginia beach is another option that I like.
How about a Dream House on the James River (a rather large babbling stream) in Williamsburg, VA. Would be convenient to Army, Air Force and Navy bases and is in a beautiful and historic part of the country.
Williamsburg would be a great area…Coop also agreed with that.
A Dream house on Oahu would also be ideal. Army, Air Force, Marine and Navy bases and a Coast Guard station. Build on the North Shore and get a true Hawaiian environment and drive into Honolulu and find everything a "big city" can offer.
Yes!!!
Coronado,CA would be incredible!!!
I'd certainly vote for Coronado, CA, with it's perfect weather and incredible views. It could be just around the corner for me, but finding a property to build a Dream Home on, empty or otherwise, around this little "island", would be an extraordinary and very pricey challenge.
Happy Trails!
No problem with returning to Florida… Okay, I know a little selfish of me. I believe Hawaii would be the ultimate location for a Dream Home. We need clues to further the conversation… But, will continue by posting what our individual choices would be or where we think HGTV may be heading by process of elimination… which never works, because somehow the location surprises us…. But, I want to thank you for posting a new thread MARY. Are we going to see an interview with Myra soon… maybe, with GAIL or more of JAMIE… (trust me, I won't mind….)? Love life by living green and having a dream!
I don't know about Florida, reneelovesgreen. Is there a town left without a Dream Home there?
You know I'm already a big booster of a Hawaii Dream Home location. C'mon Jack T, how about it?
I know….. I just am loving it here!! Thought I could keep the job here and get a new DH/GH!!! hehe.. I am not even going to try to think of a new location….. I love traveling everywhere and would love to have a home anywhere to experience a different part of this beautiful country. I still believe that HGTV needs to implement an International Dream Green Home!!! I would help them find some wonderful locations, like the ones you posted recently!!!! C'mon Jack ….. a Dream Home in Hawaii and an International Dream Home…… you told us to continue the dream….. so why not dream big!!!
Hi, DBCoop. It is very nice to meet you.
I have read many of your blog comments and I definitely agree with you on this one:
I am also a big booster or fan of a Hawaii Dream Home location (I suggested Maui on an earlier post and read a suggestion for Oahu). My family and I used to live on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii during the mid-to-late 1970s when my father (a retired U.S. Navy veteran) was stationed there and I absolutely loved living there. Yes, it would be wonderful if Jack T. chose one of the Islands of Hawaii for a future Dream Home location. (They could do a luau, leis, or island culture theme throughout the home). Oh, well, it is encouraging to Dream (and If we can Dream a Dream, we can Dream it Lush, Tropical, and Green).
Wishing you and everyone Pleasant Dreams!!!
Hawaii…. I think it will be really cool…. crossing fingers..
Gail, you must LOVE your job as Super Fan! I would be very jealous of you, if it weren't for the fact that I would not want to give up my chance of being eligible to win the DH!
So, you asked for us to guess where you think DH2011 will be… I have it on authority from a local psychic that either DH2011 or DH2012 will be somewhere in the mountains in the southeast. Thank heavens I didn't have to pay for that forecast, but I will be interested in seeing how accurate that is!
Yep…. And she does a wonderful job at it!!!! She must drive people crazy with her enthusiasm… I love it!!! She is very positive and would win a Dream Home in an instant if she where eligible…….
I'm hoping for a location that has four real seasons (and not too much humidity — I guess that takes away any options in the South). It would be great if it were a horse-friendly place. I'd like a place where employment opportunities are good, since I would need to get a job nearby to be able to live there.
TN would be a great place for that even though it is in the south
How about a place just outside Yosemite, or nearby one of the other National Parks. You know the scenery would be beautiful and the access roads would be good. I'm dreaming of trees, waterfalls, babbling brooks, the whole thing.
Speaking of good authority, Show Me has shared his thoughts with me about the upcoming location—that a Dream Home will be built in the Midwest within the next [deleted] years. Could it be 2011?
I think the black bear pic is a clue to this year also, check out the first link on favorite blogs.
No, that was just to scare Coop ….. hehehe….
Not too fussy about location. As long as the weather is mild & the humidity is low. I have lived in cold country & humid areas before. Not too much fun for me!
Ed….. I am with you!! A Dream Home anywhere is still a dream and so much fun to play along…..
I feel strongly that Jack T. has selected somewhere in mid-USA, where the DH has "never gone before". I do not think it is Montana, as beautiful as that state is, but Minnesota and Michigan have a lot in common. Both have abundant inland lakes, bubbling streams and waterfalls and access to a Great Lake. (well, Michigan has the advantage there). Michigan's private and public outdoor pools are open about 4 months of the year. I would love a Dream Home in Manistee (beautiful beaches) or Harbor Springs (where the yachts park).
On the other hand, Anchorage, KY sounds delightful. I loved the charm of Louisville when I visited there. And an outdoor pool would be more long lived.
Ah, it's just beginning. Thank you Mary, Gail and HGTV, and as Coop would say, "Happy Sleuthing".
I'm hoping for a Midwest local, too. I finally got to see that lovely area a few summers ago and found it beautiful. And they so need the jobs and publicity. DebbieFlorida
Chanhassen, MN and Middleton, WI are both on the 2009 Top 10 places to live list by CNN Money. La Crosse, WI is on the list for US News.
Hey again Our Army Family, I'll take La Crosse and I'll take the house!! Ya right! You sound like you might be from Wi. or the middle west. Just curious. Living with my cat too long! Take care.
Let's see……. on a mountain top, by a small town, by the sea and on a remote island…. Hawaii fits the bill for all… an island in Montana? hmmmm… Island Lake … Island at Rock Creek….. Bear Tooth Museum ….. babbling creeks…. my brain is curiously working overtime trying to guess before clues help lead us in another direction ….. right or not, it is still fun…
Another island in Montana…. Wild Horse Island:
Located in Northwest Montana, 10 miles south of Kalispell and 70 miles north of Missoula, lies the jewel of Western Montana, Flathead Lake. Nearly 30 miles long and up to 17 miles wide, Flathead Lake is the largest natural fresh water lake in the West. Surrounded by mountains including the majestic Mission Mountain range to the East, the lake is spotted by islands, including an island now designated as a wilderness preserve, Wild Horse Island.
Wild Horse Island, nearly 4,100 acres, is the focal point of boating, sailing and hiking activities on this pristine lake. With magnificent views overlooking this special island, is a new 132 acre, 13 lot development, named Wild Horse Ranch.
The Ranch consists of 13 lots ranging from over five acres up to nearly 17 acres, many of which border state forest lands. All lots have sweeping views of the lake, the islands and the Mission Mountains. Some views look north, south and east creating a nearly 270 degree vista of the lake and valley.
Minutes from the town of Lakeside, shopping, golf, restaurants, and national airport service are nearby. Blacktail Ski Resort is convenient to the Ranch as well as many great trout fishing and whitewater rivers.
Wild Horse Ranch borders state forest lands and has open access to unlimited recreational opportunity. Amenities of the development will include a beautiful entrance, paved roads, underground electrical utilities and protective covenants. There are nearly eight acres of common meadows creating a western ranch feel to the property.
That sounds so wonderful. I hope it is in Montana.
Have to check it out. Your descriptions sells it really well. Thnx
Okay, I'm willing to brave some colder seasonal weather to enjoy this beautiful spot, especially if Jack Thomasson picks 7 acre lot #6 with its spectacular lake views.
This location could easily rival the '97 Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the '07 Winter Park, Colorado sites, with the kind of upscale, inviting Dream Home/ski lodge ambiance that attracts so many HGTV dreamers.
Time to go shopping lakeside for property, and check out the Blacktail Ski Resort and whitewater rivers! Oh, and don't forget the awesome boating opportunities on Flathead Lake. Hmm, wonder if I could tame a few of those wild horses to get out and ride the trails? Nah, too old for bustin' broncos…better stick with a good saddle horse. If I win a Dream Home, I want to be all in one piece.
Lot #6 sounds great to me — is there pasture for horses as well? Montana is a beautiful place to ride. I used to ride the rental horses in Glacier National Park, where you can do an easy one-hour ride all the way up to an all-day ride to one of the lodges for lunch and back — for me the latter was the perfect way to spend a gorgeous Montana day, although my husband preferred to stick to the 1-2 hour rides!
You ride? I think we have a few equestrians on this blog…howdy
Yay! reneelovesgreen. Amazing travelogue. You cetainly do your research homework, and find amazing places, some of the best to traverse.
Hi, reneelovesgreen!!! So very nice to meet you!!
Your descriptions of the Wild Horse Island on Flathead Lake and the Wild Horse Ranch development in Montana with its vast beauty, forests, meadows, gorgeous lake views, and abundant recreational opportunities (boating, sailing, fishing, and hiking—Yes, pretty please!!) have me starry-eyed, "dreaming", and seriously hoping for this area as a Dream Team choice as well. If they pick this area, like DBCoop says, I hope that it will have a good-sized acreage to go with it (I love to Garden (veggies and flowers) and we're allowed to Dream Big, right?). I would like to say that you have done excellent and very in-depth research–I absolutely love your descriptions and appreciate all the information given on this location in Montana. It definitely sounds like a place I would love to visit or vacation with my family to (hopefully) in the future. Thank you.
Wishing you and everyone well with Pleasant Dreams!!
Many years ago my husband used to teach at the biological station on Flathead Lake in July. I would go with him just to enjoy the location — absolutely beautiful! We would take weekend trips to Glacier National Park, and the delightful town of Big Fork is just minutes away. Big Fork is full of wonderful shops, galleries, and restaurants, and I recall that they even had a theater group. Just watch out for the logging trucks — there can be a lot on the road between Kalispell and Big Fork. I also remember that the water in Flathead Lake is VERY COLD!!! Even in July you had to be a diehard swimmer to get into that lake — I never got past dipping a toe in! There are a lot of cherry orchards around the lake, and cherries are quite abundant in the summer, as are raspberries and huckleberries, which made my husband very happy! Oh, and pie is big in Montana — especially pie for breakfast!
For those of you not fond of cold weather, the month of July is your best bet — winters in Montana are long and cold and snowy, but they are beautiful. It is the picture perfect place for Christmas, and if you need to escape the summer heat, Montana is the place to go. I sure wouldn't mind seeing a Dream Home built in Montana!
Wow really impressed with Wild Horse Island… another gorgeous place, and only 13 lots…wow! I do hope it is Montana..can't go wrong when you go West!
You're right, this is a wonderful area. My best friend's family moved near Lakeside, Mt back in the seventies. I visited often as a teenager & spent lots of summer days sunbathing on the dock at Elk's Resort (the resort is no longer there, though).
Perfect!! I already live in Montana and vacationed at several different areas and would love to win a home in the western part of the state!! Montana is a beautiful state and has alot to offer its residents and visitors alike!
Oh boy. Sounds great to me. You are always sooooo informational. Thank you!!!
Thanks for the insite on Wild Horse Island sounds like a whole new world. Love to hear about interesting places.
I know Yogi Bear was a brown bear but I think DH 2011 will be close to Jelly Stone I mean Yellow Stone.
I think JackLMT, he might also be Jackie from Jersey. If you have used these post names, please come forward.
What name do you think Jack Thomasson uses when he posts on the blog?
how about Delaware the first state that would be great , our vice president is from delaware …thats just a thought ..
I think JThomeS. Not to sure though. I just think that it makes sense to me as well. I used to go by Jackie, then I changed it to #1HGTVLVR. I realized that there were a lot of bloggers going by that name too, so I changed it to this one. So to answer your question, no I'm not Jack T. He!! He!! Keep on dreaming big!!!!
DreamerShar you are my best bud!! I'll go with you anywhere because I know yoiu went inside my mind!
Did you know that there is a State Park in Oregon Silversomething? and it has 14 waterfalls in it with lots of hiking trails. Oregon is great for many reasons, just ask DBCoop or Our Army Family (dizzy is this really you?)
Gail tell Mary that I am so happy that she used the most glamorous photo of you. I was busy reading the last thread having computor problems when it jumped around and landed here about five hours since you chimed in. Glad the computer is doing what it is supposed to do!
Now I have been having two problems folks and I need help. When I first come on each day, I am supposed to sign in to Intense Debate right? I am not sure just where that sign in is. Then I cannot find the place to go to see the Green House . I read about a red counter top, but I can't seem to find that place. Is Gail suggesting that we finally give up on this blog and just stay on GH or what? Thank you in advance for your help!!! Sandy
SandyLA…. go to the bottom of this page and click IntenseDebate to sign in….. Also, if you go to the right side of this page, it has a picture of the Green Home 2010… if you can't find it at times, just go to the top of this page, left side where it has HGTV in brown with the arrow and click on any of the selections and then go to the top of the page and all of those will have a link to the Green home….. Hope this helps….. (i.e. click kitchens and under will have the HGTV Green home Link…. Good Luck and let me know if you need any help….. while I research Oregon……
Hey Reneelg, I have used the one at the end because I didn't know of anyother way. Today I used the top entrance and got in. Before I would always forget to login, this way I won't forget. Now for the Green Home. I was a llittle confused; but I will keep trying. Thanx Sandy
Thank you Renee, I am doing it much quicker now.
Hopefully we can get fellow MGTOTD'er Marie Miller to tell us about all the wonders of Oregon. Of course, our other fellow blogger EdinOregon (who needs no introduction) could do the same.
I am so apologetic. I was referring to all the statistics you were giving us. I wasn't inferring that you had loads of info about the state itself. I should have asked you first if I could use your name, I really am so sorry. I was getting the idea that Oregon might not be a bad place for a DH. Sandy
Sandy that is Silver Falls State Park. It is truly beautiful. I have been there many times. Of course if we're talking about water falls, I think the ones in Yosemite are really extraordinary! A dream home in the foothills between Yosemite & Fresno, would be in a very nice weather belt.
OK EdinOregon, You obviously know me. Water is my medium. My whole family have spent much time at Silver Falls over the years. It was funny because I read an article in an RV magazine about the loneliest ranger of all. We went and found every parking lot empty and hiked without other campers. Later we went and found it hard to find a place to stay! Yosemite – My parents lived and worked there the first three years of their marriage. My uncle was the first chef at the Ahwanee Hotel. I have spent the majority of my summers there! I am smiling!
Glad you're smiling Sandy. I spent many vacations in Yosemite. Haven't been back there in years. The last time I was there it was getting pretty crowded. How is it now? I have eaten at the Ahwanee. Maybe your uncle cooked my meal. That was back in the late sixties.
My Uncle helped build the Ahwanee which was in the late '20s and he left in the early 30's I doubt that you ate any of his food. The crowds can't get any worse because they limit the number to come in. I do not go anymore because of the crowds!!!
Yep- this Army Family was once adisneyfamily…sorry- been busy the last few days. Anyway, Ed has covered your answer…but yes, a ton of beautiful state and federal parks in both Washington and Oregon with great waterfalls.
I wanted to apologize to you for directing people to you for info. You and Coop were giving out so many stutistics, that I thought if anyone to know that you would know. I should have asked you first before I put your name up and I do apologize. I never meant that you have lots of info on Oregon. Sorry. Sandy
No problem- very willing…and I am from WA with a bunch of family in OR as well as many places that I love to visit in OR.
It is difficult to even think about a Dream House, while we plan for our's NOW. I'm very excited about this!
Last weekend, my dh took me on a date. One part of the date included a bookstore. As we were leaving, I noticed the Mad Hatter's Hat from Alice in Wonderland. It sure would be nice if this could be included to Myra's list of gifts. Just a thought.
Yes, definitely low humidity a bonus all the way around for most I would think. Then of course good cost of living with community. These are some my tops of my wish list for any home.
South as in Blackhills, South Dakota? Buffalo, trout and lots of history. . Beverly
The new DH should be in Idaho. Beautiful forests, dry climate, mild winters, great skiing and outdoor activities. A great area would be the Sawtooth mountains with great hiking trails and beautiful lakes or North Idaho (lots of lakes and close to the Spokane shopping).
Why does the link to the first discussion say "intense discussion on bears and other wildlife" ? There wasn't really any other wildlife discussed in that thread other than the bear? I skimmed through that thread and decided that black bear and corner were probably the intended clues. Does that relate to this year as well? Why did Mary put a link at the end of that thread and not the others? Is it a clue?
Now that GAIL has opened the Pandora's Box about guessing the next Dream Home location, I'll follow with another question:
Will Dream Home 2011 be in the Midwest?
Verse 1
Here in the Heartland where character's born
Pierre and Springfield, Bismarck or Des Moines
From Mountains to Prairie, Barley and Corn
Just bring me a Dream then add in some coin
Jan_of_FL, I agree. When a comment is too long and must be broken apart, replying to oneself is the best way to go. As you say, that keeps it from being listed in reverse order when sorting by Last Activity. Also, it's a gamble to submit serial comments individually, since other comments can easily be posted in between.
I'll make a note for the future—when the comment's so long and split in two, replying to oneself is the thing to do.
DBCoop, I am a big Dr. Suess fan and love the art of ryhme. You crack me up.
Verse 2
They start with an 'M', these States are not small
It's Jefferson City, Lansing, St Paul
You only need ask to answer this call
Show Me the Great Lakes, with North Star 'n all
Verse 3
Then starting with 'I', a State that's well known
It's Indianapolis these Hoosiers call home
And one with an 'O', the Buckeye is grown
Columbus is famous, it's all in the poem
Verse 4
Great cities they are, and leaders they were
Lincoln and Madison, at sixteen and four
Cornhusk'r or Dairy, we don't know for sure
Just one little hint would open the door
Verse 5
Now last but not least, with this news we're blessed
Topeka's the place you're Auntie Em's guest
Broad fields of wheat, Wicked Witch of the West
Dorothy's home too, ruby slippers her quest
Verse 6
If Bond or Ms. Christie's your fav'rite sleuth
Solving each mystery with plenty of proof
This Dream Home's unveiling, basement to roof
We'll pull it together and find out the truth
Verse 7
Pay heed to the clues, 'cause MARY's quite tough
Lead and then lose us with all the right stuff
So put on your spy hat, the goin' gets rough
We'll zig and we'll zag 'till callin' her bluff
Verse 8
Coming attractions of which we're so keen
Is it the Midwest we're meant to have seen
This Dream Home's location—number fifteen
On with the story, it's time to come clean
Loved it, in all of it's glory,
what other States do you think
should be part of this story?
None is the answer-
you named them real well
the Midwest has been sung
By DBCoop, with an
A+ A+ for quite swell!
Your poetry is absolutly Swell!! As is Cami's
Are you trying to take my job? Ha!
What job might that be? And who are thee?
I am Lee. I actually meant the comeback for Coop, but you just wrote one too. I meant my propensity to write in poetry form. Everyone here is just too cool. Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you as well Lee. Nice save too.
Cami, great comeback to Coop. I, too, have been greatly impressed with our poets. As to the Johnny Cash question, I think Ray Charles is most noted for his arrangement of Georgia On My Mind. The Cash one I was thinking of is one of his travelin' songs. He says, "I've been to…", followed by a long list of towns and cities. May be a truck drining song.
Wow! That's all I can say. You are phenomenal!
My other guesses would be: Wyoming, Washington state and my PICK. . . Montana. Beverly

If black bear and corner was the intended clue for 2010 which indicates the four corners- which led to some bloggers thinking New Mexico which was obviously correct, then the location ot this years Dream Home is 100 % Gallatin Heights development in Montana. Four Corners Montana is less than 1/2 mile from the development. Either that or they are messing with me.
This is just down the road from Gallatin Heights development in Bozeman MT. So we won't be needing a pool, but I'll take a hot tub and sauna. Yeeeee hawwww I hope this it! http://www.bozemanhotsprings.biz/
Please forgive my excited response, I am at least 15% red neck, ok 20%.. and sometimes it gets the better of me.
Love Bozo. Had a good friend that lived there in the 80's. I spent 3 weeks visiting her. Much later I returned and was a bit sad to see the development along the beautiful Madison, Jefferson and Gallatin river valleys. Ahhh well.
I think the word is Cascar….as in the photos displayed in master bedroom. He has a web site and works out of Dallas, Tx. Possibility???
Hi Super Fan Gail,
Thank you Gail, for trying to finagle Jack into telling all, but he is probably going to keep us guessing for awhile, and he cetainly has the right audience. I have been sitting on the edge of my seat, waiting to see and hear your golden enthusiasm shining onto a new thread, and wetting our appetite with the lure of the new HGTV 2011 DREAM HOUSE. Speaking of lures, and shining bait, Gold Beach in Southern Oregon, also called the banana coast where some of the best Salmon fishing in the country is for the tasting. This sleepy town, would be a dream place for me. Just the other day, I told my family I wanted to leave my raw food home for awhile, and go on a fishing excursion to a place where the beaches are serene, the hiking trails with bears oh my are plentiful, and it is hop skip and jump from rushing rivers. Not far from this excellent beach resort are two great school towns Medford and Ashford the schools are progressive and I believe their are some excellent Shakespear and arts festivals. I'll betcha this would appeal to reneeelovesgreen and adisneyfamily.
Everyone needs to remember that HGTV only builds the Dream and Green Homes in planned communities/developments.
How about Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands? My husband does a lot of work in Puerto Rico near the El Yunque National Forest and I lived on the island of St. John for a while — both are beautiful places and would be great locations for a Dream Home!
I think the 2011 dream home should be in the south area and by the ocean. so when you wake up in the morning you open your big glass doors and walk out on your huge deck and look at the ocean and start the day by taking in the warm air and smelling the ocean. Now you can do the rest because you guys are the pros and you are good at what you do. thank you your friend
DBCoop sure put a lot of energy to convince us it is in the midwest. IMHO, it makes plain horse sense to put one there.
My guess is selfish at best, but I would really like to see Jack in the homeland of Georgia, more particularly in Pine Mountain, Georgia!! Remember that I'm a Georgia Peach waiting to return to my roots!!! Pine Mountain is a town in Harris and Meriwether counties, and began in 1882 when the railroad spread to Pine Mountain from Columbus!! Until the 1960s, the community was known as Chipley, but the name was changed to Pine Mountain due to the existence of Callaway Gardens. For anyone interested in hiking, there is the Pine Mountain Trail, jwhich is a 23-mile hiking trail nearby in F. D. Roosevelt State Park. At Callaway Gardens one could see the most beautiful gardens with the largest butterfly garden!
Please tell me Jack is settling in at one of the Pine Mountain Club Chalets that is secluded in the woods for a romantic & private get-away before the big announcement of the DH2011!!! Could it be PINE MOUNTAIN GEORGIA???
As you know, Marie, I'll strongly second your choice of Pine Mountain, Georgia! After my stay at the Callaway Gardens last May, I'm more than ready for a return trip to this beautiful paradise—possibly for a tour of Dream Home 2011, built within the custom homesites available at Highland Park?
From the Callaway Gardens Real Estate webpage: "Nestled into a woodland canopy, Highland Park embraces you in peaceful seclusion, while still keeping you close to recreational amenities like 65-acre Robin Lake, 36 holes of championship golf, and the rejuvenation of Spa Prunifolia. If you long to combine the best of both nature and luxury living, be among the first to build and own a custom home in Callaway Gardens."
If not 2011, how about 2012, Jack T?
Hi Marie, I have been in Pine Mountain and it is sheltered by amazing pine trees. The leather craftsman are usually out in full regalia in the neighboring areas and is an extremely friendly and family oriented genteel community.
I have never been, but the more and more I hear about Pine Mountain, GA….. I must make a point of taking a family vacation there….. I am researching it now, and any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
If the question is Pine Mountain, Georgia, the answer is Callaway Gardens. Breathtaking, peaceful, and genuine Southern hospitality. There are thousands of acres to explore, with golf courses, gardens and lakes galore.
oh where, oh where will my dream home be?
