HGTV Dream Home 2011 Location Clue Five

Could it be Tennessee, Arkansas or New York? Wouldn’t it be most amazing if the home was placed in Colorado, with a view of Pikes Peak? Or Utah? Or Vermont (I can almost taste the flapjacks and maple syrup now).

I am a tad disappointed that no one even came close to cracking clue four. BTW, it’s not a year.

Here is your clue for today: A pretty picture. Post your comments.

  3. Hello HGTV!!!
I wonder how many people who watches HGTV can agree that they show too many episodes of House Hunters and House Hunters International??? There are so many other helpful shows that HGTV can show instead of 5 – 7 episodes of House Hunters and House Hunters International daily. Please, enough with the House Hunters show!!! Please provide your HGTV watchers with other teaching shows. You can not learn any helpful tools from House Hunters. I welcome any comments in regards to my comment against House Hunters and House Hunters International.

  4. STAMPS….. one could think of mail…. and then the Poney Express maybe? The Poney Express goes thru many states… including Utah and Nevada.

"1861 The last run of the Pony Express was on October 24, 1861. The completion of the transcontinental telegraph made the Pony Express Company obsolete ." "The pony express consisted of relays of men riding fast ponies or horses that carried letters and small packages across a 1,966-mile (3,164-kilometer) trail. The service opened officially on April 3, 1860."

  6. Im guessing its Hamilton, MD since its on the stamp or Boston since that is the location of the first post office. Then again the pony express was a pretty important historical event to California.

  7. NW Wyoming is my guess.

hope on May 12, 2010 at 1:56 am
  8. Okay, might be farfetched… but here's my guess: Virginia. The Stamp Act (hence, stamps) was a duty on the American colonies; Mary already mentioned the Jamestown Colony in the cow pic (and their official state drink is milk). While the rhododendron is the state flower of W. VA, west Virginia as a state was part of the original Virginia until the Civil War.

Danielle on May 15, 2010 at 10:54 pm
  9. Texas I think….. El Paso for the stamps.( Fort Bliss) etc.

Karen on May 19, 2010 at 8:11 am
  10. I see Carmel posted on one of the stamps and Carmel Arkansas is a beautiful place. I've been guessing Arkansas all along because of the timber rattlers, diamonds, on Mississippi River, lots of honey…..etc.

Dana on May 21, 2010 at 8:57 am
  11. Also, Arkansas has a huge and beautiful lake….Lake Hamilton!!

  12. Just looked up Mt. Carmel Arkansas and it is definately a gorgeous place.

Dana on May 21, 2010 at 9:08 am
  13. Wow, more research shows a city only a few miles from Mount Carmel by the name of "Broken Bow" …..significant to red cloud maybe.

  15. This may sound stupid but the first thing that came to my mind didn't have to do with stamps but could be BTW- By The Water??????????????????????Here's my shot

  16. Alice Hamilton MD…MD is the abbreviation for MARYLAND!!!!!!

Liz on May 23, 2010 at 2:18 am
  17. The stamp in the bottom far right is The Statue of Liberty. Can't make out the top blurred man on stamp, and the peachy colored stamp under SoL. Anyone recognize them. Man wearing a black jacket over white top, black bow tie. Older man with dark hair and white fake looking beard(not a collar). It's not Abe, nor Brigham Young, nor Joseph Smith. Not a historical pres that I could make out.
All the stamps appear to have some social/political significance. Thought maybe the peachy looking stamp might be Naval/military significance, but can't track it down. Everyone's got a fix on all the other visible stamps. Just need the 2 that aren't viewable.

  18. Statehood of Vermont…. http://www.zianet.com/smithson/images/f903.jpg
Vermont did not become a state until 1791 , so next year
it will be their 220 yr. anniversary as a state.

'There was some controversy surrounding which cities would be honored by allowing First Day stamps to be issued. Amazingly on a stamp that is often referred to as the "Saratoga" stamp, Saratoga, New York was not chosen as a First Day city. The "Surrender of Burgoyne" 2-cent stamp had First Day sales at the Philatelic Agency in Washington, D.C. and in Albany, Rome, Syracuse and Utica, New York. The "Green Mountain Boys" stamp was much simpler with First Day sales at the Philatelic Agency in Washington, D.C. and of course at Bennington, Vermont. ' the surrender of General Burgoyne at Saratoga, New York, on October 17, widely regarded as one of the key events shaping the Revolutionary War.
But the $1 Surrender at Saratoga stamp issued May 5, 1994. The stamp is still in use today at most post offices.

I pray that the Republic of U.S.A. will still be proudly here on our 300th. anniversary! We can do it! :)

  19. I'd guess with Red Cloud there – Wyoming or Montana

Amy Leigh on May 28, 2010 at 9:15 pm
  20. Is it possible that the stamps are just to get us to think about the postal service? It was the idea of Benjamin Franklin and was first established in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Kim on May 28, 2010 at 9:42 pm
  21. Red Cloud was a famous native American who lived and fought in Montana around Powder River Basin area near Yellowstone Park.

  22. I think maybe No or So Dakota. However, New York state has a lot of farms. Could be Iowa.Michigan was not seen in the videos. Arkansas is a very pretty state and in some places resembles New England. How about in the Fayettville area – Rogers or Bella Vista.

  24. I think all of these stamps mean ………. Historical!

The 2011 Dream Home site could be in or near a historical place?

Vermont has a lovely place near the NY/ VT border called Mt. Independence State Historical Site.

Great place to use a boat!

  25. Oh I forgot and I don't know how to post on that intense debate site but it is in Lexington NC because the Chrysler bldg is on Lexington Avenue and we're told it is NOT KY. as a hint. and all my other comments explain the Log Cabin guess. That is my guess. DONE. Now I have to take a break and worry about winning Plymouth for the next few weeks.

  26. I don't know where the reference earlier was to BTW but I believe that is Booker T. Washington the first African American on the Postage STamp but that would place the house in Virginia and that just doesn't seem to fit for me. ummmm

  27. (So much history…. good thing they fought and now we have New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, etc.)

Historical Saratoga Stamp from New England….
NH – 14 th. state, until statehood, had been a region claimed by both New York and New Hampshire. The victory at Battle at Bennington aided in the subsequent American triumph at Saratoga by depriving Burgoyne's army of vital supplies. The Battle of Bennington was a battle of the American Revolutionary War that took place on August 16, 1777, in Walloomsac, New York, about 10 miles (16 km) from its namesake Bennington, Vermont. An American force of 2,000 men, primarily composed of New Hampshire and Massachusetts militiamen. Stark raised 1,500 New Hampshire militiamen in the space of six days, more than ten percent of New Hampshire's male population over the age of sixteen. (They helped save Fort Ticonderoga, NY right across the point to Vermont.) http://www.theamericanrevolution.org/battledetail… also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Stark

  28. CONTINUED –
And count New Hampshire among the U.S. Postal Service's "Flags of Our Nation" series on 4-16-2010 . The blue flag with the state seal showing one of the first ships authorized for the nation's Navy went on sale Friday. The bottom of the stamp illustrates a loon swimming in a lake, with forest and mountains in the background. ( Mary, near Loon Lake, NH?)

Now I see why so many clues could match more than one state. They used to be part of one another! ! ! : )

  29. As others have pointed out…..

Plus,The Blue Ghost of Wolfeboro is the U.S. Mail Boat for Lake Winnipesaukee. It makes a daily 60-mile loop delivering MAIL to 30 stops at camps and islands around the lake.

    Lynda P Musser-Huff on June 6, 2010 at 9:27 pm
  32. SNAKE CLUE COULD ALSO MEAN SCALES. Like scaling down the mountain when snow skiing.
White snowflake might mean White Mountains (New Hampshire)
Also many Colonists used that snake on their Gadsden Flag. Found a picture of the Gadsden Flag and the 1st. Navy Jack flag (with a snake on it to). http://www.usflagdepot.com/store/page1.html
Also, "Don't Give Up………. the Ship" could refer to the ship on the NH state seal.

  38. STAMP – Burgoyne's Surrender at Saratoga http://www.1847usa.com/identify/YearSets/1927.htm

and the STAMP – Green Mountain Boy
The stories of these two stamps are intricately intertwined, for one would not exist without the other. The year 1927 marked the 150th anniversary of many important events surrounding the American War of Independence and the Postmaster was deluged with requests for new issues commemorating these events. In the case of New York and Vermont, there were four events that were worthy of commemoration: the British siege at Fort Stanwix (renamed Fort Schuyler at the time) from August 3-22, 1777; the battle of Oriskany, about 6 miles East of Fort Stanwix, on August 6, in which many Oneida Indians aided the American rebel cause; the battle in Bennington, Vermont, on August 16, in which the Green Mountain Boys defended supply storehouses, severely weakening General Burgoyne's resources; and the surrender of General Burgoyne at Saratoga, New York, on October 17, widely regarded as one of the key events shaping the Revolutionary War.

If its an U. S. Park…….. then that could be 'clue' important.
