HGTV Dream Home 2011 Location Clue Six

You are wracking your brains and crunching the numbers in an attempt to decipher my very straightforward clues. And still you stumble.

So today, I share a simple clue: a photo of a cow. Did you know that when European dairy cows were brought to America in 1611, they helped end severe starvation in the Jamestown Colony?

Ready, set, go!

  7. Well, Maryland is a big cow state, a postage stamp from a previous clue was from Maryland, and her name is Mary? There is also a Maryland maple sugar festival, and Cartier Boutique in Chevy Chase, MD (although I suppose that doesn't mean much as there are Cartiers in a lot of cities.) I have no idea about the numbers but I haven't really taken time to look very long.

  8. Oh, may I add that if the numbers clue is 1634, then the state of Maryland was first settled in 1634 by Lord Baltimore and other English settlers. I'm starting to lean toward Maryland a lot…

  9. You guys are so cool… On the GH Blog there has not been a new clue and the blogging has slowed down to a crawl. Here there has not been a new clue for quite a while, but does that stop you ? Of course not. It appears that many of you want to increas your number of blogs so you post away. For no new blog, so many of you have been able to find a new way of saying almost the same thing. It is quite amazing to me that there are such a variety of answers given the same clues. You guys are such a creative bunch. Not only that , but you are clever, wild, funny, serious, and some of you will need the HOME soon (if you know what I mean). Some listen to each other and others just keep going on your own trail and don't let anything get in your way. Bravo, Bravo and good night to you all Don't blog too much as we are going away for the weekend (Thurs to Mon.) ~ that's a retired persons weekend.

  10. I'm sticking with Crown Point, NY. The inventor of a compass came from this community. Mary did say the clue of the compass had nothing to do with the numbers. Highway 41 is one of the numbers. One of the Green builders was just given some recognition in this area. The Red Cloud clue…could possibly the cloud that probably took place when the bridge was taken down between NY and Vermont…..This area is in upstate NY, an area known as the dairy area. WHY did Jack & Linda go to the NY for some of their items in DH2010???????????? And the NY train station to display DH 2009??????

    I'm sticking with NY.

  11. Wednesday's Dream Home travel agenda—Middlebury, Vermont. In Middlebury, The University of Vermont Morgan Horse Farm is dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the Morgan Horse through selective breeding and public education. After a guided tour and videotape presentation about the history and lineage of the Morgan Horse, visitors are invited to view a working horse farm.

Of course, just outside of Middlebury lives the accomplished artist, Woody Jackson, creator of the Ben & Jerry's Holstein Cow. His company is called, appropriately, Holy Cow, Inc, and sells an amazing range of cow-inspired artwork, clothing, ceramics and glassware, notecards and accessories, along with other regional subjects of interest, including art inspired from as far afield as New Mexico.

Holy Holstein, Benny—will MARY surprise us with a new thread that sends us packing for parts unknown?

  13. Mary, unless you wish to be deemed Chief Tormentor like Vermont's Stave puzzlemaker, please provide us with a new clue forthwith!

Unlike many, I am not quite ready for the location reveal yet — I am delighted that the game is still afoot! But I think we have taken the cow clue as far as it can go — we need a new lead!

  14. Coop, have you made it to the Woodstock area yet? If not, when you get there, check out these accommodations:

    http://www.twinfarms.com/index.htm

I am absolutely in love with this inn! I almost couldn't tear myself away from the photo galleries of the various rooms and cottages. The decor of each one is so individual — there is a room or cottage to suit anyone's style! And "The exterior of stone and pine, maple and brick evoke the classic Vermont Cape-style farmhouse." If DH 2011 looks anything like this place I am ready to move in now! Then there are the gourmet cuisine and extensive wine cellar, not to mention spa facilities! I'm already scheming to figure out a way to spend some time there — a vacation with the hubby or an all-girls getaway weekend, perhaps!

  15. The actual picture is of the Cartier store in Chicago on Michigan Ave. I am not sure if this makes a difference in interpreting the clue. Actually, I am not sure of anything on this site. Everything is up for interpretation and we all have such great imaginations.

  22. Mary, Mary, quite contrary where did our next clue go,
With the cow disappearing and anxiety growing,
Your loyal bloggers are starting to feel a little low,
Is your mischievous ways to keep us from knowing.

reneelovesgreen on April 28, 2010 at 1:03 pm
  23. Dan… it seems that many are coming up with the same info from the clues. Great job putting it all together!! It reconfirms many others' previous posts. Now, if it is not Vermont, then the numbers are to be read different …..1960 or 1906 or do we add them?? Kidding…… It is so amazing how many directions each clue can go. Is it maple syrup or honey? Is it Cartier the jeweler or the French explorer or many other well know personalities? Okay…. just kidding.. Vermont has been in the front running for a bit. I can't wait for the next clue to help confirm!!! Thanks for the great info!!

reneelovesgreen on April 28, 2010 at 1:08 pm
  24. Ok, one of the stamps had Red Cloud on it, one picture had the cactus, the reference to Jamestown, the wrong way sign, the Don't Give Up on an earlier clue, the cow on the newest leads me to James Town Wyoming. Am I even warm? LOL!!!

Tiffany on April 28, 2010 at 1:31 pm
  25. Keep this close by, WyoGirl. It is great info to share with others and easier than posting all of the locations. Plus, it is interesting to see the amount of entries yearly. It is nice to go back and remember the winners for the past, how many times that I entered, how many bloggers were there and how different each home is!! Thanks for posting!

reneelovesgreen on April 28, 2010 at 1:36 pm
  26. As much as I've gotten to like our cow I'm starting to look at her in a strange way…………. more like top sirloin, porterhouse, hamburger. With a nice Chianti and favre beans. Hold me back!!

honey farms and apiaries if honey is the clue.

  39. MAPLE SYRUP—–NY
Several U.S. states, including New York and Vermont, have the sugar maple as their state tree.

The next Dream Home is definitely going to be in NY. It is all very exciting and I cannot wait for the location to be announced.

  46. A few still believe that it could be Maryland. I don't think that anyone would be disappointed!! What amazing history and beauty, especially among the Eastern Shore. If there were a clue with a picture of a crab, it would have been so easy…. but, Mary is not easy. In fact, she is sneaky, creative and has way too much time to tease and bewilder us……

reneelovesgreen on April 28, 2010 at 12:50 pm
  47. melissa_again….. Funny… I would flip out if it were Naples. I just have a feeling that there are too many Dream Homes and now a Green Home in Florida. I think that Jack would broaden the horizons a little more. But, I never say never… I love the beaches in Florida, though I haven't driven to Naples yet, I have heard it is beautiful. (hope they get the oil spill cleaned quickly to protect the coast there!!!)

reneelovesgreen on April 28, 2010 at 12:54 pm
  48. Okay- new blog topic on the Green Home page…nothing here…that either means that we will get some sort of info- clue or location reveal or something- today…or…???…okay- I really don't know what it means but it has to mean something ;o)

  49. COW CLUE
    Ear Marks on Cattle………colonial times.
Pasturing cattle on unoccupied lands, especially the salt-water meadows and town properties, was a common practice throughout Long Island during Colonial days and even as late as 1880.
Each owner identified his cattle by means of ear-marks. These ear-marks were registered in the offices of the town clerks as evidence of private ownership.
The earliest ear-marks in Brookhaven Town, NY were recorded about the year 1700 by a written description only.
The cow in the photo has a red tag on his ear.

Cartier's first store in US was in NY city.
Stamps: US Post Office first began in Boston……however, the first route from state to state began in NY and sent mail to Boston from NY.
    # Clue 1619: President Roosevelt died on 1-6-19 and was buried in Oyster Bay, NY.
    # Clue 2634: Or 234_6……..the 5 is missing. This represents 5th Ave in NY city.
    Chinatown: Location in NY city.
Now……………..the only clue I have not listed is Maple Syrup. I need to do more research, but I will be back.
