sconel on June 5, 2010 at 3:42 pm
    • All clues point to Rhode Island (4333=13 state, red maple state tree, supplier of granite coutertops, kind of close to a body of water, cows, snake, all clues say thats where it is

sconel on June 5, 2010 at 4:15 pm
      • So many of the clues apply to the New England area, and New York. I think the Cartier clue fit Vermont the best, but we really won't know until the reveal.

          • Cartier Jewelry stores are all around, But the explorer Jacques Cartier only has ties with Vermont in the U.S. The big question is Which Cartier is Mary referring to?

    • Dear Our Army Family,

I was going to sign off, and saw this little flash of light next to your name, opened it, and saw a most beautfiul YOU, with a sparkly ballgown. Although the picture is very small, I could see your feminine beauty, lovely curls and your wordy and worldy ways. Sometime soon, I hope that you will have your own blog, and would love to be the first in line to buy your books of family adventure.

Janzee on June 6, 2010 at 7:36 pm
      • I have the blog address…I haven't gotten the chance yet to get everything set up on it…maybe now that the school year is coming to a close. We have spent all of our free time off exploring.

        • Oh P.S. I think it is really great that we are associating a picture or face with our words. I like the idea of creating a backyard patio with a string of lights, a very relaxing and homey atmosphere for us all to unwind and meet and greet, share and do our work.

  7. Okay…. 4393 or 4333….. where to apply it…..

reneelovesgreen on June 2, 2010 at 2:25 pm
  8. Mount Mansfield (elevation 4,393 feet) is the highest mountain in Vermont

reneelovesgreen on June 2, 2010 at 2:26 pm
    • I think its Teaxes.

      lol101 on June 5, 2010 at 3:07 pm
  9. Mount Mansfield is the highest peak in Vermont. Views from the treeless summit include three states and two countries. Several hiking trails (including the Long Trail) lead to the summit; there is also a toll road* and gondola from the Stowe Resort base.

Generally considered to resemble the face of man lying on his back, with various peaks appropriately named: At the south is the Forehead, moving north to The Nose, The Chin, and The Adam's Apple.

*As of 06/09, $24 per car, up to six people. Road goes to "The Nose," from which it is a trail hike of a little over a mile to "The Chin." (4393 at "The Chin)

reneelovesgreen on June 2, 2010 at 2:27 pm

    • I believe your right except I think It will be built on a different mountain (MT ELLEN) in Vermont

joe on June 9, 2010 at 12:08 am
  10. Okay. I give in. It is definitely Vermont. The numbers here are 4393 and Mount Mansfield, the highest point in Vermont is listed as 4393 ft. in elevation ( the wikipedia page on Vermont lists it as 4395, but the page for Mount Mansfield itself lists 4393). But could somebody explain the NY skyline clue? I don't see how that fits in.

Sarah on June 2, 2010 at 2:28 pm
    • Oops…. I posted the wrong thing to you… The elevation for the 4393 is at what they call "The Chin"… Maybe the NY skyline was alluding to the fact that from certain areas throughout Vermont, you can view New York…. Does this help…

reneelovesgreen on June 2, 2010 at 2:37 pm
      • Thanks, Renee. I guess that makes sense. I'm completely convinced it's Vermont now, I was just trying to fit all the clues in.

Sarah on June 2, 2010 at 2:44 pm
        • You are welcome!! I also gave you a thumbs up for your wonderful research!!

reneelovesgreen on June 2, 2010 at 7:19 pm
    • MAYBE from that view which is looking kind of toward the SW from the Empire State Building………..

take a HGTV 180* turn and look NE toward the New England state of: …… ?

blue on June 6, 2010 at 12:24 pm
    • Believe it or not, the Wikipedia Vermont page does list 4393 ft. for Mt. Mansfield as well — if you go to the history section there is a picture of Mt. Mansfield on the right with this height listed! (Wikipedia has never been known for its accuracy or consistency, just its volume of information!). I interpreted the NYC picture clue to be the Big Apple (which Mary mentions) — Vermont's official state fruit and pie are both apple!

      C&E on June 6, 2010 at 2:17 pm
    • definitely a profile picture of a mountain skyline and the rolling old mountains like vt. could be!

rewolf on June 6, 2010 at 4:12 pm
  11. Okay- Renee has a 9, I didn't see a 9…now I have to go back and relook. I was about to compliment Mary on how straight forward it was that there was only one number option in each.

Our Army Family on June 2, 2010 at 2:29 pm
    • Okay…I found the 9. So, we either have 4333 or 4393…not necessarily in those orders.

Our Army Family on June 2, 2010 at 2:31 pm
      • Are you going to look for other combinations of the numbers….

reneelovesgreen on June 2, 2010 at 2:37 pm
        • Not sure…it seems a little too straight forward to have them in order, but then again everyone was so frusterated with numbers in the past. There is part of me conceding again to Vermont…with the order they are currently in the only Virginia connection i can find is the extra 4 at the end of the zipcode for Virginia Beach are 4393.

Our Army Family on June 2, 2010 at 2:44 pm
          • Uh-oh…. Are we going to be able to read this clue in various ways again… This is going to be fun!!! hehe…..

reneelovesgreen on June 2, 2010 at 2:54 pm
          • Nope- I found the pic and then C&E posted the pic info also…they were taken in Vermont…unless Mary is really playing with us, it is definitely Vermont.

Our Army Family on June 2, 2010 at 2:55 pm
          • Yes… I know…. I looked it up as well and found similar views while researching Mount Mansfield… I meant, that I bet others find many different number combinations to fit their locations… (without taking into consideration the picture of course)…. You know, Cami is going to fit it to Hawaii some how… hehe…. Her dedication is amazing….

      • Um…I answered myself about 2 minutes after I posted it saying I found it.

Our Army Family on June 3, 2010 at 7:17 pm
  12. The name comes from the dissolved town of Mansfield, Vermont, in which the mountain was located. It was common for settlers to name Vermont towns for their previous homes; several of the original grantees were from Mansfield, Connecticut, which in turn is known to have been named for Moses Mansfield, one of the chief landowners there. The Town of Mansfield was platted before anyone involved had visited the site; when it was surveyed, it was discovered to be mostly mountainside. Although a few hardy pioneers settled in the town's few lowlands, the town was dissolved by degrees, with the portion generally west of the mountain being annexed to Underhill in 1839, the eastern portion to Stowe in 1848 after a vote of the citizenry. The dividing line did not run exactly along the ridge of the mountain; thus, the Chin is in Underhill and the Nose in Stowe

reneelovesgreen on June 2, 2010 at 2:29 pm
    • Are you from Vermont Renee it sounds as if you are looking forward to being there !!!!!!!!!

      melissa_again on June 2, 2010 at 3:17 pm
      • No… I am not… I have been researching it since the 2nd or 3rd clue… And it has been fun and informative!

reneelovesgreen on June 2, 2010 at 3:26 pm
  13. If you're looking for a view, there's none better than from the Mount Mansfield Toll Road! Mount Mansfield is Vermont's Highest Mountain [ 4393'] – The Toll Road zig zags to the summit ridge with views of Lake Champlain & New York's Adirondack Mountains

reneelovesgreen on June 2, 2010 at 2:33 pm
  14. Looking for other combinations….

Stowe is a town in Lamoille County, Vermont, United States. The population was 4,339 at the 2000 census.

Our Army Family on June 2, 2010 at 3:31 pm
      • Isn't it funny how you can use the combination of the numbers to lead to the same area…..

reneelovesgreen on June 2, 2010 at 3:37 pm
    • If you play the numbers (4393) straight as latitude and longitude, I come up with somewhere due north of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Mary, do we get a prize if we guess correctly? The suspense is wearing us down.

anne on June 2, 2010 at 6:24 pm
      • It has to be Vermont!!! Too many clues have lead that direction…. Did you happen to see the Rednalsi of Vermont blog….?? It had most of the clues answered in it….. We all get a prize and at this time, I think most will settle with the Reveal as a nice concession prize… Take care anne!!

reneelovesgreen on June 2, 2010 at 8:09 pm
        • Ok Reneelovesgreen: I marched to a different drummer. You know "Mary's leading us away from the location so where else could it be? I am sure where ever the dream home location is; it will be gorgous!. It seems Jack is always looking for that special, "who would of thought " location.

By the way, aren't you a little guilty of that too!! Seems to me I recall you baiting some fabulous community resort area in New York that made me drool. huh, huh, Yeah, I thought so. (tehe)

anne on June 4, 2010 at 3:56 am
          • I agree… No matter where the Dream Home 2011 is, it will be gorgeous!!

I don't know if I am guilty, as I never really thought that anyone paid too much attention to me! But, yes after posting info on Vermont daily, with bloggers' saying enough already… I went to research communities in areas where others were posting…. as the clues can lead in different direction if read in other ways. So, I guess that does make me guilty… YIKES!!! Oopss…. It is all in good fun. My favorite part is research….. I should work in a News Dept… hehehe….. Sorry for making you drool…… but, I believe that we all need to once in a while!! Take care and talk to you soon anne!!

  16. Hmmmm… the picture seems to be of Vermont, around Lincoln Peak….. Perhaps the dream home will be around Sugarbush? I will see if the numbers help or hinder this idea. numbers by the way (4,3,9,3). This could be enough to shift me away from my New hampshire guess.

    • When you read the captions on the newest clue, you should see directions to go to the appropriate panels. The only discrepancy whould be on the tower clue which you will see the a three and a nine. Then take you pick as far as the line up of numbers.

    • 45 minutes to Burlington…but that would still be "somewhat" close…somewhat leaves so much wiggle room…not to mention there can be a smaller lake or river and that would count as a body of water or she could look at the state is a state away from the ocean verses being landlocked in the midwest.

  35. Still in love with ::::

Quechee Lakes, nestled along the stony shores of the Ottauquechee River, is a spectacular combination of elegant homes and spacious condominiums. In nearly 6,000 acres of quiet woods and peaceful hillsides are activities for every life-style. Quechee Lakes is a planned environment respecting Nature in its infinite variety.

The Quechee Lakes community is made up of individual landowners who own a home site, a completed home or condominium. These landowners own and control all the amenities at Quechee Lakes. Tenants, because they rent from a landowner, are allowed the privilege of using the amenities while at Quechee Lakes. Some amenities require the renter to purchase a guest pass from Membership Services. Quechee's facilities include two championship golf courses. Geoffrey Cornish, a world famous golf course architect, started with a valley full of ample trees, spring fed ponds, pastures, rocky ledges and dramatic ravines – then sculpted 36 challenging holes of championship golf. Old pros or young duffers, the golfers who have played it rave about it. Both 18s, from the first tee to the thirty-sixth green, are truly unbelievable.

And how appropriate is Mad River for all of us Mad bloggers! In the meantime, I thought I would post a hilarious poem the photographer had on his website:

    The Pig and the Inebriate
Posted by dvs on March 6, 2009

It was the pig fair last September
    The day I well remember
I was walking up and down in drunken pride
When my knees began to flutter
And I sank down in the gutter
And a pig came up and lay down by my side
As I lay there in the gutter
Thinking thoughts I could not utter
I thought I heard a passing lady say
You can tell the man who boozes
By the company that he chooses
And with that the pig got up and walked away

    (Boys of the Lough)

    LOL!

    • Applause. Here's the clincher. I had never really seen a pig face to face. Last weekend I went to buy pottery in the middle of the desert, and this pot belly pig was running wild on the property. Somehow someway, the pig and I saw each other- it was face to face love at first site. She laid down on the dusty ground for me to rub her belly. I thought pigs were smooth, but her hair was course like a broom. She blinked her white eyelashes at me, and I grunted back at her. My husband took some pictures and I fell in love.

Janzee on June 3, 2010 at 5:19 am
      • That's funny Janzee. Wait until you meet a thousand pound boar. Then you can have a half a ton of love looking at you. They're not quite as pretty as a pot bellied pig though! LOL

EdinOregon on June 3, 2010 at 5:38 am
        • Yikes, thankgoodness, you are the first I have been able to get back to. This material is too juicy and funny to pass up. Is this boar a mythological creature or is it for real. Have you met up with some such critter?

Janzee on June 3, 2010 at 5:56 am
          • I used to raise a couple of pigs every year on my acreage in San Diego County. The pig rancher I would buy the piglets from had some monster sows & boars. He had them in concrete block stys, and when they would crash into the sides I just knew they were coming though the concrete!!!! I was always amazed the little piglets didn't get smashed by "Big Momma Sow". She usually had 12 – 16 running around under her looking for a hand out! LOL

EdinOregon on June 3, 2010 at 6:15 am
          • This is one of the best stories I ever heard. I know I keep saying this, but every time I hear another story, I think its the best. Its amazing how much I don't know about the outdoors, and have told people for many years what an outdoorsy person I am, but truth be told that the "real life" you describe is where everything begins. Fishing, raising of mama pigs, Lord knows what else… My hope is that the DH is close to a place where we can see the wide open spaces a cow or two a Red Clover Pasture. This could be Vermont

Janzee on June 3, 2010 at 7:39 pm
          • I am actually leaving in a few to pick up some plant pots, and to see the pig. Today we may not rolll around on the dirt together I'll just feed her some apples.

Janzee on June 3, 2010 at 7:53 pm
          • I love your pig story! My sister used to work at a farm on Long Island where she led tour groups of city kids to show them what went on at farms. This farm was always getting donations of pot-bellied pigs because people would buy them as pets when they were piglets, not realizing how large they become as adults! The other problem was overfeeding — a problem for this breed in particular because excess weight causes their bellies to literally drag on the ground! If you know what you are doing and have adequate space pigs can make good pets — they are very intelligent and can be housebroken — but they love to dig and need space to roam so they are definitely not meant for the city!

            C&E on June 3, 2010 at 8:19 pm
          • Thankyou my dear friend, your sister must have had the most wonderful time watching the children's expressions observing the very close to human expressions and behaviors of pigs. My deep sense is that you have nurtured these beautiful animals on your own land. The place I go, called Cactus Joe's is run by a man who greatly respects the land, and on seven acres picks up stray dogs and this one slim and trim very smart pig, with just the slightest hint of mischeif gets into some of the displayed artifacts. I actually saw her chewing on a cow skull, and when she was admonished she smirked, her hair went up on her back, and she smiled a crooked smile.

Janzee on June 3, 2010 at 9:07 pm
          • why not in the city because they need a mud hole But I have heard people say they would rather have a pig for a pet and they carry less germs is that true are they cleaner and you can feed them all of the leftovers and slop !!!!

            melissa_again on June 3, 2010 at 9:26 pm
          • Pigs are not any less clean than other domestic animals but they have a hard time regulating their body temperature in the heat and need a cool spot when it is very hot outside. Clean water would work, but mud works too! Unless you are planning to eat your pig it is best to feed them a balanced diet just like you would a dog or cat or they will suffer from health problems. Most pigs are raised for food and don't live very long so little thought is given to long-term health, but if the pig is a pet and you want it to live a long time you should feed it a balanced diet and do not overfeed (pigs have been bred to gain weight quickly so they get fat easily!). Exercise is also important to keep them trim, so that is why they need room to roam. Janzee's pig has the perfect life of running free on an acreage. This pig can do all the things that make a pig healthy and happy — no wonder Janzee saw her smiling!

            melissa_again on June 4, 2010 at 12:23 am
          • Pigs have to have a mud hole to waller around in. They get a lot of their vitamins, etc. through their skin rolling around in the mud. Pigs are easy to pottie train as they always try to go in the same place. They're really fun, as a kid growing up, one of my chores was slopping the hogs.

      • OurArmyFamily have you found or noted anything on the stamp clues from Vermont. I am still having trouble with this one?

Janzee on June 3, 2010 at 7:44 pm
        • C&E said something about a battle portrayed in one of the stamps is mentioned on the Vermont page.

Our Army Family on June 3, 2010 at 8:18 pm
          • The battles I found in Vermont but not apparently stamp worthy were Hubbardton, and Bennington which led way to the Revolutionary War. Vermont I dont think was involved in the Stamp Act, as she came in after the thirteen colonies had been established. Sue and Deba came up with a whole thing about the Lindbergh stamp for St. Louis- this is what I am trying to find. If we were trying to prove Vermont most everything ties in, even the Red Clover is the state flower. But….Virginia has plenty of stamp worthy connections, so does NY, New Hamshire, and even N.C. with the Orville Wright first flight in Kitty Hawk. I am still not 100% convinced.

Janzee on June 3, 2010 at 9:25 pm
          • Hi Janzee, I think it was General Burgoyne, from the Battle of Saratoga, that sent troops to Bennington. At least that is the link between the Saratoga/Bennington. Cami found an interesting link between all of the stamps. They are all navy battleships. Did you notice the cancellation mark on the envelope that has the word "navy" on it?

boomer on June 7, 2010 at 10:46 pm
          • Yes boomer,I recently found that connection from the Saratoga Battle, and so it was the Green Mountain boys from Vermont. a strudy bunch of men that won Burgoyne's troops. After this connection I felt the stamp in the forefront of the picture was the one to focus on. On your question about the cancellation mark, I didn't notice.

Janzee on June 7, 2010 at 11:02 pm
          • One of the battleships that was not included in the stamps was the USS Tennessee. She was damaged in the bombing at Pearl Harbor, repaired and rejoined her fleet.

boomer on June 7, 2010 at 10:48 pm
          • Those old battleships have endured tremendous history for this country. I get the chills reading about them. I was a correspondent for a newspaper years ago and a favorite area is WWII history.

Janzee on June 7, 2010 at 5:58 pm
    • densteve, you have been involved in alot of history research. I am having trouble with the stamp clue from Vermont though. Cartier is good, the claimed areas I believe fall under his exploration. I would like to come up with something unique that supports stamps, but I am having trouble with this. I got Calvin Coolidge as a president born in Vermont. Vermont I think was the first to come on after the colonies were established, but would like to get something with meat on it,.like Deba and Sue's clues.

AnneEliseSouth on June 2, 2010 at 3:54 pm
      • Yeah the biggest city in Vermont has a slightly smaller population size than where I am living now and this place barely feels like a city to me.

My partner and I want to live in the country just outside of a big city so he can have work there. The only work we both probably could do in Vermont would be to own a small business or be school teachers. But in a couple of years we plan on getting married in Vermont. I've never been there before but my boyfriend visited often when he use to live in upstate NY. I can't wait to go there.

  46. I know that I posted this is the past, but I still love it, too:

We're proud to introduce South Village: Vermont's newest earth-conscious community and farm. Inspired by historic Vermont villages, South Village is a stunning, architecturally diverse community designed to integrate homes with the environment. You could call South Village a walkable, sustainable, earth-sensitive community — or you could just call it home.

Imagine a builder who has the vision to take traditional town planning, the best of residential architecture and a commitment to environmental stewardship and combine them to create homes that are elegant, energy efficient and environmentally friendly. A builder who certifies not just a few, but every home. Welcome to South Village…where it’s all about building better neighborhoods, healthier homes and happy residents.

Community stewardship at South Village means a commitment to smart growth. South Village was designated a “Smart Growth” community in 2003 by the Vermont Smart Growth Collaborative and is the largest new neighborhood to receive this designation. It means all the buildings at South Village are built to a 5-star energy rating. It means South Village is designing all, not some, but all its buildings to be “LEED” certified.

Energy-efficient, environment-friendly, community-minded. South Village, the perfect place to reconnect.

The thing is, that many clues can be read differently causing debates on the location. I enjoy having fun with it and not getting personal, as many people state their views in various ways. Sometimes the sense of humor doesn't come through on the screen… I am thinking the melissa_again is kidding around and trying to hold on to her favorite location, like Cami does with Hawaii!! Let's have fun!!!

    • I am now going to formerly say I am a turncoat. Yes Vermont it shall be. I have made a few discoveries, and had a little help from my friends here. Not because I have been unwillingly goaded, but with two feet on the ground and exacting information, after all, that's what the folks on this site on looking for. A few details made this decision live for me.The mama cow and its possibility as a Ben an Jerry Poster child scored whopping points since I am an ice cream at two in the morning freak. Then, with Army and C&Es help they pointed to the Battle of Saratoga. That stamp was the one I had ogled, as it was the most detailed, and right there on center stage. Mary threw the rest of the stamps in as smoke screen, but the Vermonteers saw through it and went straight for the gold. The honey ain't no honey, its maple syrup with sugar on top and that's a pancake flap jake flippin giveaway. Cartier historians are all over the place with what he discovered and what he didn't, but since his close Kanada association and given the strait between the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks I think his Vermont explorations are his thus and soo and soo for Cartier. Any gold or diamonds will be after the fact. Let's go shopping.

  49. VERMONT?!??! What happened to my guess of American Somoa? Sheesh, all this time I've been stranded out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and the next Dream Home location is in New England.

Boy, I was WAY off, but then I'm sure Barry the Holstein Teddy Bear will be thrilled to hear it.

This definitely was a straightforward clue—Google "4,393 feet," and the first response is Mt Mansfield in Vermont, OR "4339 population", and Stowe, Vermont comes right up like magic, both as our friend reneelovesgreen pointed out right away.

After dealing with a barrage of business emails from Thailand, this was quite an unexpected surprise.

    • Funny…. we all know that you have been campaigning Vermont for a long time now!!! Thanks for the acknowledgement my friend!! I had it highlighted already from previous research!! Now which community do you think it will be?

    • I'm feeling a bit wistful for Wake Island, my new find from last night, but when the facts are before you it is time to buck up and go with the inevitable flow! Now don't confuse your Thailand info with that for Vermont, or we will be forced to imagine one strange New England/Southeast Asian fusion going on with DH 2011 — hmmmm, maybe that is not such a bad thing!

    • Coop…. didn't you post info on Quechee Lakes originally? I remember posting it in the past, but the noticing that you had posted it previous to my post…. I am pretty sure that you did……

      • I'm not sure, reneelovesgreen. Which came first, the Quechee or the Lakes? I'll have to turn it over to Show Me for further research.

  50. yeah VT! good work sourcing the photo. "Near water" does not have to be a lake, could be a river and there are many of those in and around the Stowe area.
