    • Thank you so much gremol for letting us know on the green home blog that this reveal is coming! That was the first time I had checked on a GH blog, since I have beeen so wrapped up in these DH clue blogs. I am so excited to finally find out the DH 2011 location after 2 months of blogging about it. Yahoo! Thank you Mary and Jack for finally revealing to us. I hope it will be really soon. And yes, I would love to participate in a poll for HGTV.

    • I don't know how to blog! But, I figured that the dream home should be in Delaware. First stae, cow on the flag, peach blossom is state flower, etc…

amya on June 16, 2010 at 2:18 am
      • The clues could certainly fit Delaware too. Never know.

    • I'm new to this blog thing so here goes….
Vermont is beautiful! I'm so excited about the new Dream Home 2011. Every year I tell my husband I'm going to win and then I DON'T. But its fun trying and seeing each new home.
      Good luck to all!

  2. I can't decide. It will take me a few hours to decide. I would like to choose them all. Can we have 10 votes each?

    • Cami where is the poll? Is there a new one on the main page?

      1LMichele on June 15, 2010 at 9:39 pm
      • Can't you see it above this post at the top.. It is in a gray box. Maybe yours didn't load or something.

Cami on June 15, 2010 at 9:54 pm
    • I missed the "hammer the last nail" option. I want that one because it would also cover the second option and put me on the build site where I can just toss out a few ideas to Linda, too LOL.

      Debra G. on June 15, 2010 at 10:03 pm
      • Very clever Debra. I was trying to figure out how to get to do them all?? Two isn't bad.

          Debra G. on June 15, 2010 at 10:10 pm
      • Actually, it would also cover visiting the building site. You know Jack would be there to supervise the hammering of the nail. So this option covers everything but the floor plans.

    • REALLY! I'm a New Englander at heart, born a Texan. We lived in Massachusetts for 8 years where we raised 4 children. As often as we could we would visit Burlington and cross Lake Champlain on a ferry to go to a summer family camp. We are all back in Texas, or in a neighboring state; but, oh, to be back in New England, esp. Vermont!

  4. well im kind of an out sider and new to this blogging but i dont think anything cami said was rude. sounds like the other person is the one that cant quit being rude and get over it. this is a place where people can go and exspress their own opinions and ideals. who cares if someone dont agree, get over it and move on. and im not gonna keep on with the arguing with you newbie if you reply to this comment. so dont exspect a response. and thumbs up cami, your doing a good job. good luck to the winner!!!! it will be time to know very very soon!!!!!

gremol on June 15, 2010 at 9:17 pm
      • And this comes from the one who had a remark earlier that I reported because of it's offensive language. Then he deleted it about 10 minutes later. This is the behavior that I am talking about Mary. It is not good for HGTV's reputation nor is it good for this blog!

Newby on June 15, 2010 at 9:30 pm
    • And in complete disregard to what Mary is asking people on this blog continue to support someone who obviously and blatantly made a rude and disrespectful statement. It's funny how they continue to make comments but blame me for the one carrying on. Mary, this kind of behavior is not good for this board. Back a while ago one person left because of a rude comment that was made. Those that have been on here for a long time have formed a "click" and are rude to many people that have just started getting on here. They themselves have talked of how they ban together…which would be a good thing if it wasn't banning together to back up each other being rude and disrespectful!

Newby on June 15, 2010 at 9:23 pm
      • Newby, Cami apologized. Can you accept her apology, please? It would great if you could. None of us ever mean to hurt anyone's feelings, yours included.

boomer on June 15, 2010 at 8:20 pm
    • I think it takes a certain amount of maturity for that type of action. Obviously someone is lacking in that ability & will continue clogging the blog. Nice try though Becky! thumbs up!

EdinOregon on June 15, 2010 at 9:39 pm
      • Like I said….here is a good quote:

"never argue with an idiot they drag you down to their level then beat you with experience."

Wish I would have come across that sooner lol!

Newby on June 15, 2010 at 9:44 pm
        • Newby: This is no laughing matter. You are accusing people of ruining HGTV's reputation? How ludicrous is that! You talk about a "click" of long time bloggers being rude and disrespectful…..? I am a long time blogger and I find (us) humorous, curious, informative, encouraging, prayers when needed.
I don't understand why you feel you have to police the blog and report to headquarters. You are not needed for that job. Admin. does an excellent job. Take a vacation, rest and come back refreshed.

Katydid on June 15, 2010 at 11:38 pm
    • I agree Becky everyone here has worked very hard for that self expression, and we all need to unleash and get things off our chests.

Janzee on June 15, 2010 at 10:52 pm
      • I'm biting my tongue or should I say my fingers since they are doing the talking for me on here. All I have to say is that I have been a group moderator & banished trolls like Newby who only want to bring everyone else down to their level.

ttsousa on June 15, 2010 at 11:06 pm
        • If you have ever been a group moderator then you would know what a troll is. I'm not a troll….I'm a blogger defending myself against a group of veteran bloggers who like to chase new contributors away. I don't bite my fingers or my tongue because no one else here does :)

So the next best thing is to put one moments madness into sixty seconds worth of distance run-Rudyard Kipling. We all have too much to say, and all are heard.

"Don't make me turn this blog around" LOL (with head bowed and with a dejected look upon my face) I am sorry Mother Mary, I will try to be more careful about my choice of words next time. Thanks for letting me apologize again, and have the last word ; ) Please don't punish the whole blog, most of them have been very, very good. I am not a veteran on this blog but I am a disabled veteran and I resent having someone use that word in a negative way. I don't want to respond to that person because I don't want to say something I would regret. If it wasn't for You, Cami, Our Army Family, C&E, DB Coop and so many others this blog would'nt be so much fun. This person is trying to destroy the atmosphere and I wish there was something we could do about it.

          • I think there will be several they are already expressing an interest. Remember we are going to meet half-way on I-5. Cami is going to look cute driving down the freeway in her Mad Hatter outfit. Does the cake come in different sizes? You probably should order the largest one they have. We will have a lot to celebrate. And even more if it is in VIRGINIA!

alicesoneysmom on June 15, 2010 at 10:48 pm
          • Got it! Clearly I was having a blonde moment. I didn't realize it was my unbirthday party (or, maybe it was that over 50 thing LOL). I thought it was a bloggie party. Halfway sounds great and yes, they do come in a 6" and a 9" version. With all the layers there will be plenty to go around, but slicing them gets messy (trust me). I say we slice it in half and we can agree on assigned sections:-)

            Debra G. on June 15, 2010 at 11:01 pm
          • How bout if some of us hunker down in the cake, and then pop out when we have the HGTV Reveal. Uh Oh did I ruin the surprise? I think Mary is going to surprise us with her own cake popping surprise.

Since you can only have one birthday a year, we figured if you had an unbirthday it would work your magic too. Hurry up! The thunder & lightning, the hail and the downpours today are playing heck with all the work my landscapers are doing outside today. At least they got the backyard rotortilled before it got too bad. I promise I won't pick on your weather anymore, if you call Thor off! ^_^

boomer on June 16, 2010 at 2:29 am

alicesoneysmom on June 16, 2010 at 3:11 am
          • What breed is Soney? Max is what we call a malamutt since he's Malamute/Shepherd/??? mix. He's 90-lbs of pure love & goofiness & he too thinks he's a lap dog. We think Elvis is English shepherd mix because of his looks & herding desire. Of course, he dreams of being a sled dog too if Mama wasn't such a wus.

boomer on June 17, 2010 at 11:34 am
          • They sure do. I hadn't had a dog since 1981 or 82 until we adopted Elvis in 2005. I had developed asthma & allergies REAL bad in early 80s so when our last childhood dog died, my parents didn't get any more. After that & before Elvis, I would either break out in hives or have itchy eyes & shortness of breath when I got around dogs. When I held him & he didn't cause any bad reactions, I knew he was the one. Then a year later we adopted Max.

One has red curly hair, black muzzel, weighing about 45 pounds fully grown. Had raised German Shepherds and these two wonderful creatures only have the heart and mind in common with a German Shepherd so it must be that all dogs are wonderful creatures. They both are wonderful dogs. My rescued cats love them. Spay and neuter your pets, please.

          • Max will howl to the harmonica too. You should have heard him & my sister's little rat terrier howling together once when we were visiting. my sister says that was the beginning of Lucy's singing days, lol. Lucy loves Max making them an odd looking couple with her tiny self beside his huge self.

          • I taught me Jack Russel to howl before she passed away. She would ride with me in the car, and first I would howl and then both of us woud be on the highway at full force howling up a storm.

Janzee on June 17, 2010 at 6:18 am
          • LOL! Sounds like the howling sessions with Max. He will let me know alot of times he wants to have a howl along by looking at me & doing this low whine & then wait. Soon as I start, he starts. Once I took Elvis to the post office with me when he was a puppy & he had already figured out the music came from box in the dash. There was a church next to the post office paying a song with the bells that he obviously liked because when it stopped playing, he started pawing & growling at the dash thinking it was on the radio & I had turned it off. He sulked with his head turned looking away from me the rest of the way home.

I also wanted to say what a BIG heart you have which I can tell from many of the blogs… You are a wonderful example of what a fun and caring person/blogger can and should be :) Thank You !!!

          • Zoie, that means a lot to me coming from you. You have brought a smile to my heart many times. It is so wonderful to meet wise bloggers like you and to learn from their experiences.

My family has 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 2 snakes; an eastern chain king and a red corn. My husband is a self educated herpetologist. I love all of our pets. The reptiles are actually the easiest to care for. We take them outside in the summer to climb the trees and move about in the fenced vegetable garden. Otherwise they stay in the wonderful habitats we have created for them indoors. They hibernate in the winter. But of course they aren't as cuddly at the 3 mammals.

So you have 2 dogs, 1 cat and 2 snakes…haha wow. I am SCARED to death of snakes, even little snakes and this sounds nuts but worms give me the creeps (at least I am not scared of them…lol). Please if you don't mind tell me what is endearing about snakes… there are so many people that have them as pets so they must be lovable in their own way. I really would like to understand. Thanks Boomer !!!

          • When I first bought my wolf howling cd to try to get Elvis to howl, he was looking all over the house for them instead & finally followed the sound to the tv & gave me this ticked off look. Not Max, the first sound of a howl, he threw his head back & sang along with them. Elvis is very curious about crying babies on tv and gets excited by laughter & bossy about arguing even on the tv & he recognizes Kiefer Sutherland's voice, lol. The funniest two times with Elvis watching tv was when we were watching an Elvis Presley movie & he saw the guy's face singing to EP's voice & started growling & barking. The other time was watching our wedding video & he looked at the tv, then us, then the tv & started barking at us on tv like we were imposters or something.

Have I got him trained right or what? He loves Kiefer, gospel music, & he knows an Elvis Presley imposter when he sees one, hahahaha

        • Thanks for the compliment, and right back at you — I too enjoy having fun on this blog! I think we will all be ready to party when the location is finally revealed and an Unbirthday party for Debra sounds like a great idea! Debra, the Smith Island cake site has a lemon blueberry version as its cake of the month for June or July (I forget which month!), so now I am torn between that and the strawberry one! If we do an Unbirthday party for you we can have one of each!

That peach one looked fabulous, too. Seriously, we have a large group and could easily polish off half a dozen of these cakes! By the way, I know most people don't know this, but I LOVE cake!!!

I have yet to see them, and will continue on this trek. Looking for my own lake, the property we saw was all dust-forget it.

Janzee on June 15, 2010 at 11:32 pm
        • I haven't been called Eddy in years! Are you trying to make me feel younger? Having been to the Colorado a "few" times it just seemed like an oxymoron to mention the Colorado and clear in the same sentence. Dust isn't too bad if you have enough water to irrigate! By the way there is some great striped bass fishing in the Colorado! ^_^

EdinOregon on June 16, 2010 at 1:32 am
          • Well EdinOregon, you remind me of a boy/man and you know you can never take the kid out of the man, so if you don't mind when you are behaving yourself, I would like to call you Eddy. I am sorry to say that the oxy more on is on my floor. I use it to wash aways dust and dirt, and it works quite well. On your irrigation comment, you are correctamundo, irrigation and a water source is the first thing I investigate on the property, and out there in Twenty Nine Palms, there was not much of what I wanted on the ten acres of land. This is not an area I would recommend to HGTV, but I sure do like getting out and pacing property. I will be doing alot of that in the next couple of years. By the way, is it possible to find your own lake on property in Oregon?

Janzee on June 15, 2010 at 11:28 pm
          • Been to twenty nine palms. Definitely a hot dry area. If one has enough money you can buy anything Janzee. Seriously though they do have land on lakes. Some of it is private property some of it is government leased land. There are also a lot of farm acreage that has five to twenty acre ponds on them. Sorry i took so long to reply. my fourteen year old daughter found our (her) 2 pound chihuaha on the bathroom floor dead. He was only 1 year old and she was devastated. It has taken awhile for the crisis to die down. Very SAD! No problem with the name! ^_^

EdinOregon on June 16, 2010 at 1:30 am
          • Oh Ed, I am so sorry to hear that your dog passed away. Those little chihuahas have a tendency to have heart problems. I know how your daughter is feeling, and I am very sorry to hear this news, and as Cami has said, we all grieve with you. Most recently when our Jack Russel passed, we had a burial service in back of the house, all the neighbors and her cat came to pay respects. The ritual of some sort of service always helps everyone and offers solace. If you have another chihuaha in your life, you will see the myriad of similarities almost as though Daisey is trying to tell you something. What I tell all my friends is that YOUR family comes first, you dont have to answer any of my posts – you come to visit when you please. Thank you for all of the land info it was very generous of you.

          • All of a sudden I am feeling intense emotion like gushing water. As I read your post, I am trying to stay very focused. I am smug and flip and sometimes think that I have severe problems until I hear about our friends who have lost a child. As a parent it is the greatest heartache, but I believe very strongly that in heaven we will be reunited with our family and continue in the higher domain. Years ago, when I was producing for PBS, I met a woman for lunch who looked at me and told me that she saw my grandma. She described Matea to a tee with long dark braids and a smile on her face. Then she asked who was standing next to her, she referred to Marco by name, and I began to cry. Marco was Matea's son who passed away at two. She said they were standing together and having a party. The word "party" was the secret code between grandma and I when she passed. All at once I realized that life as we know it continues in a higher domain. My LDS friends say that all will be reunited again. Continue your joy Eddie and be in this world with happiness. May you be blessed and healed from all sadness. The commemorative garden is a wonderful idea.

          • Ed, I am so sorry to hear this news. I can sympathize with the how you and your wife must feel. My niece died 10 years ago. She was only 10 at the time. My sister worked the soil at her gravesite and created the most beautiful garden there. For the longest time my son referred to graveyards as grave-gardens. I love the thought of creating a memorial garden by the house.

My sister gave my kids some of Ruby's trinkets. One was a collection of bubble gum machine aliens that you see in many stores. We decided to start adding to the collection. We put a quarter in the first alien machine we saw, turned the knob and was amazed with what we received. The tiny green alien was holding a sign that said, "Miss You." We all started crying, realizing it was a message from Ruby.

I pray the the loving memories of you son will help you through the difficult times. Hugs to you and your wife.

In fact, you welcomed me right away. I sincerely enjoy your friendship and I value it. I think that we all need to move forward and put this all behind us, because for the most part I think there are more important things to worry about. Sometimes, when we blog, it's hard not to write things that others might take offense to and it might not be taken the way that you were intending it to. I think that we all have done it from time to time. I say, Oops!!! If I took offense to everything that people said and didn't mean for it to sound the way that it did, I would be mad at the whole world all the time. So, Happy Dreaming to you, Cami!!!! TTYS

I cast my humble vote of location for the Poconos of Northeastern Pennsylvania…. famous for honeymoons, close to New York's border (hence close to the city), very close to the infamous "Rattlesnake Roundup" and a few different mountains for skiing. As a matter of fact one has a slogan of Vermont skiing without the drive soooooooooooo……. yup – I vote for the Poconos of NEPA… I really hope not since I live around here and so I KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING AROUND HERE AND IT IS NOT PRETTY WITH THE FEDS AND ALL but ya know how that goes…… Much love and good luck to the winner wherever the house may be…

      • Great idea, ttsousa. My cats are indoor only but are leash trained. Being able to let them out in the sun on their own is something I've wanted for a long time. There are some great designs for outdoor pet spaces.

MeKhazSimi on June 15, 2010 at 11:21 pm
      • Great idea! Let it have a place for rinsing off dirty/muddy paws, a floor that is easy to clean but not too slippery, enough space so that dogs could hang out there when they must be kept from getting underfoot in the house, and a separate section for cats that leads out to an enclosed area like a screened porch so that elderly cats like mine can lounge in the sun safely!

        C&E on June 15, 2010 at 11:36 pm
        • Yes, yes, yes, all the above C& E. My cats are leash trained but since we have had to move in with grandma and grandpa, they get to go outside in a beautiful landscaped area which is safe and enclosed but I prefer they not do this and would like something as you stated.

  9. To me it seems like this is blogging as usual for all of the veterans here….so I will carry on too. It's not about arguing….it's about standing up for oneself.

Anyway, I have come to the conclusion that the majority of people on here lack good 'ol common sense. So the issue has everything to do with psychology…they try to make themselves feel better by trying to belittle others. It's okay people…they do have help for that and I will posts some good places for you in the near future :)

Since then I've learned to control my anger in that way. One thing I will never do though is back down. In any situation I will stand up for myself when I know I am in the right!!

      • Step outside to a woman doesn't mean the same thing to a man. Women talk it over, for hours until they cry and hug. Men tend to get thrown over and can't move for hours, then they just cry.

A fake person is someone who is not genuine and will do whatever it takes to make themselves look good. They will downplay others to illuminate themselves. Fake people take part in hypocrisy and lies. They will change their personality to fit in to a certain group.

  10. LOL…good one, MARY!

As for the poll—there's only one clear choice for me.

If I were to visit the construction site with Jack, I'd pepper him with questions about the location of the NEXT Dream Home, and Jack would end up sending me home!

If I helped Linda Woodrum decorate one room, we'd probably end up disagreeing over the color of a feature wall, and the compromise would be a stripe of each color, which wouldn't work at all.

And driving the final nail? Well, I'm sure I would slam my thumb with the hammer instead and pass out. End of THAT fun adventure.

So it HAS to be helping to design the floorplan, or at least a little input here and there—my forté. When do I start?

  15. While the poll has interesting prospects, I would love to be able to help design the floor plan of the home. There is part of me that thinks it wouldn't happen because it may be too close to Blog Cabin…but I definitely think it would be cool for the viewers to have a little say (not that we deserve it) as to what features would be part of their dream home. Thanks again Mary for the poll and new blog topic.

EdinOregon on June 16, 2010 at 1:38 am
          • Oh no, never welded! A few pieces of strategically placed soft foam inside the crown will work to keep in on the helmet. Because you never know where you may need to wear it next. A lady may need to remove said crown and place it directly on her head for the next event, at the HGTV dinner party maybe…? :-)

She can tell you. A mix of texture with color and practicality… Practically every girl in the south owns a tiara LOL!!

  20. Mary, my thoughts about the latest poll is that I think LInda is doing a WONDERFUL JOB decorating so I did not pick that choice. (Even though I love decorating) And I THINK you already picked the location for 2011, unless that is why the LONG DELAY, so I did not pick that choice. So even though I would love a free vacation to the construction site, I don't think that was what you meant. So, I picked to be able to help pick the floor plan of the DH, which would be fun. Thanks, for asking us our opinions. Your very SWEET! SLOW, at times though. Ha Ha! OK, Bring on the Reveal!

I was looking back through old Green Home topics and it looked like they started getting location clues at the end of June…unless timelines on everything have changed, we should be finding out our location soon as I don't think we would still be guessing when they get their clues. (I say "we" and "they," but plenty of us are on both…so we are both the "we" and "they.")

          • If you rather save $ you can catch up on them at YouTube and ABC.com although it's a pain in the rear because each episode is divided into 5 different parts & some have less than desirable video quality. I cried so much when it ended I had to have dvds so I oculd pop my Lost friends in the box whenever I get to missing them. Plus, having the dvds you can go back & watch over again & pick up on things you totally overlooked the first time around.

ttsousa on June 16, 2010 at 5:50 am
          • I think I would want the option to watch it over again just for the reason you mentioned. I remember watching reruns of the first 2 seasons and thinking \”I missed that the first time.\”

        • That would work for me! The problem for me though is that the site slowed down to a crawl. I would type letters and they would show up ten letters later. I kept wanting to retype the words. I don't want that kind of time machine. The reveal would be next year! ^_^

EdinOregon on June 16, 2010 at 6:13 am
          • That almost sounds like shades of ground hog day. I am glad your time machine will keep you in the immediate future. How bout tomorrow? Eddie, I just figured out that I have the ability to rate other's comments, I thought that was only for the selected few. I feel that it is an honor, and so I am going through all the posts with my gold stars and with a click of a thumb I am seeing a plus sign.

          • Who said you weren't trainable? LOL Good for you! I try to pass on the green thumb of happiness. Besides I heard authors shold never miss the opportunity to try something new. They never know what inspiration the activity mights provide or when they can reference the activity in future works. Is that true?

EdinOregon on June 16, 2010 at 6:57 am
          • Well professor Berkley, as you are the educational coordinator for this fast train, leading to the current DH announcement and the green thumbs coordinator, and time machine engineer, I will also have to bestow the emeritus honor of trainable or past trainable on you. I shall hold my current status in abeyance until the past catches up with the future, and I have time to document the current or past occurance if it in fact occurs. We all hope that it does not later, but sooner.

          • I love that little signature smile. Over the years through friendships marraige, brothers, work, I have oftened wondered about the men are from Mars woman are from Venus phenomenon, and of course who gets the last word. He who talkest fastest, doesn't let the other in edgeways. Does the id exist, or have we manufactured it, to sell books, send the guys off on guy hunting trips, ladies day out? What I've come to, is that the little time away on our own islands is just for giggles. Guy/girl disagreements are best solved with your "smile and nod" approach, and best of all, when we come home there is so much more to talk about especially with this HGTV thing-it is better than any of the latest girl movies. As for the hunting and fishing trips I don't think much can top that, you could probably have the last word on that one.

Janzee on June 16, 2010 at 11:43 pm
          • Actually Janzee, my wife is my best friend! I would love to have her go fishing with me, but alas that is not her thing. Hunting I have pretty much given up – too hard on the old knees. I have gone fishing with mixed crews an all male crews. There is definitely a different dynamics there! The all male trips are a little more ribald and serious. The mixed trips are a little more relaxed. Although I see differences in the ssexes, I think there are more similarities than differences. It is definitely a complimentary relationship! I thing differences are emphasized for marketing purposes! There are also degrees of difference within each ssex. The cave man personality on down. And the wall flower on up! just my opinion! ^_^

          • Hi Ann, it is so good to see you. We have had many wonderful conversations over the months. I have missed talking with you and glad you are on the site. I am Jan, and I living in LA temporarily. Yes, I won Monica's wrap, which is now retired because of the heat, and is in a plastic zip lock in my closet where I can see it and give it a pat. Oh! but the memories of that wrap, are ones that I will never forget. I made wonderful friends on the blog, someone referred to us as a sisterhood- I am going to read the thread to find her name, and everyone shared in the joy of that blue bird of happiness precious gift. I won it for all of us. That small moment in time, and the graciousness of Mary, Gail. Webman Parizman, and Monica that beautiful character gave me my groove back. I probably didn't need to win the wrap for that to happen, but there was something to celebrate about. I finding lots of ways to celebrate every day! Love to You!

By the time I realized that this blog was here, you guys were so far into all the clues and research etc., so I kind of sat back and occasionally visited and read through some of the blogs. Not that I couldn't have commented on the location but I did not have time to go back through the clues first. Now that the location is HOPEFULLY coming soon, I can chime in more. Perhaps my number is higher because I talk too much ….haha :) .

While we wait for the location announcement, will you participate in a poll? I’d love to know your thoughts."

We will all be glued to the computer when….The newness of the experience that HGTV, and this site offers is always on the cutting edge of surprise. At this very moment, I am looking out the window at one generous pine tree, said a few little prayers. I feel blessed happy to be on this blog and to have such a wonderful group of friends. 34. I'm kind of glad the option for location is gone…not just in the fact that it is already chosen for this year. I think if I picked my dream location and didn't win then I would be more disappointed…especially since they probably wouldn't repeat a location (despite the multiple Florida homes). Right now, the dream homes are where they are…meaning no say in the location…so, since the location is not that important to me, it is easy to move on to dreaming of the next spectacular Dream Home.

Also, one of my lucky numbers was 16! So I interpret this to mean we will get the location reveal tomorrow, the 16th, early in the morning! I may be grasping at straws, but this new post from Mary definitely gives me hope! As for the room design I can't imagine a multitude of "personal touches" being placed into one room. Although, it would probably end up being quite a conversation piece.

ttsousa on June 16, 2010 at 5:39 am
        • Monster's Inc was my older daughter's first movie in the theater when she was almost 2. She still LOVES that movie. In a weird way, it is kind of good that they waited because it wasn't one of those movies where the 2nd comes out right away and everyone brushes it off since everything seems to have a sequel theses days. Now, it is almost like something totally new and fresh…it will interest a whole new set of kids (including my youngest), but also have the interest of those who remember it from before.

Our Army Family on June 16, 2010 at 12:14 pm

    • Well, if it's near the coast, there will be another Pirates of the Caribean out again by the time of giveaway. It could be done in pirate theme. If it's in the northwoods area, wildlife-northwoods adventure. They already did the Toy Story theme in 2010 Dream Home. I loved that one. If we knew Cami was winning, the kid's room could be Island Adventure but then she might commandeer the room from the kids & take it for herself, hehe.

ttsousa on June 15, 2010 at 11:03 pm
      • You sure know how to get a an island lovin girl excited.
The theater room could be decked out with Disney and the bedrooms could be free to anything they wish. I will have check out the upcoming Disney movies. As for the girls rooms I like the colors Army Family suggested. Turquoise and lime green. I wonder if a warm color could be added to those two colors?? The only color I can think of would be lavender, and that was done a lot last year. There must be girly color accent that could go with those two colors, besides lavender.

Or maybe just a soft pink/peach color, with lt ice blue, lavender and sage green accents. I was going for the antique look with those suggestions. So either lt sage green walls or light peach/pink walls, or creamy yellow/gold walls, with antique colored accents, and furniture.

For the master bedroom. Lindt truffle chocolates all the way. Major colors Cream/Gold colored walls with Reddish and gold accents throughout the room. Dark brown antique furniture, four poster bed with lush canopy drapes. I like the castle bedroom look here but don't want jewel tones, that would be too busy for my eyes. Just the reds, creams and golds and maybe a little silver.

Cami on June 15, 2010 at 7:16 pm
        • There are definitely some accent colors that would work to make it girly…I was thinking gender nuetral, but bright pink and purple could go with it. My daughter has a flannel sheet that is lavender with circles of all of those bright colors we named…so, they can work well together.

Our Army Family on June 16, 2010 at 12:30 am
        • I am all the way with Lindt truffle chocolates. I could live on those things. I like the red & gold colors in bedroom myself & castle theme sounds great too since I have some castle & other fairytale theme collections. I also like brick red in the kitchen at least on one main wall. If there are 4 bedrooms, there could be a boy & a girl room–pirates or rock & roll theme in the boys and castle/fairytale in the girls if it wasn't used in the master but in a way it could go for child of any age because a teenager isn't going to want a room that looks too kiddie.

I really like the Disney themed media room. You hit the nail right on the head with that one. I do have a suggestion on the living room furniture for pet lovers who have fur kids with alot of hair–more leather or microfiber type material & less cloth. Trust me, even with the Bissel Pet Vacumn, which we have, it doesn't get it all although it does do a good job. And if your pets are part of the family, no matter mansion or shack, you want them to be a part of your life & not shutup off in another part of the house all of the time especially if they have always been indoor pets.

ttsousa on June 16, 2010 at 1:17 am
          • That leads to the pet room that I would suggest adding onto the floor plan for times when they need to be in their own space. Have built in caves for them. My animals–dogs & cats–love having a dark "den" to go into sometimes to sleep and they love windows to look out especially windows with screens for a nice breeze in spring/summer months. Ceramic floor, built up bed, & kitty condo type thing and ceiling fan which takes less energy than constant a/c or even for winter months for pets with thick hair. Put some potted trees & other plants in there too to make it feel like their own personal outdoors when inside. A pet door for them to go outside into enclosed pet area outside big enough for dogs to race & wrestle around & to have their pool in the summer months. Some trees in there too for shade & a fake fire hydrant for dog to pee on–JK on the fire hydrant. Some grassy area, some concrete, & some bare dirt area. I notice my dogs & cats love to rotate and roll around on all 3 surfaces. Yes, my pets are spoiled brats. You got me on a roll there Cami. Somebody stop me.

ttsousa on June 16, 2010 at 1:18 am
          • All of our pets are kennel trained. They love going in their kennels at night. If I don't open up their door early enough in the evening, they keep pestering me until I do. He wants to keep all of his Toy story and Lilo & Stitch stuff but doesn't want them in his room for his friends to tease him over.

          • Ed, I agree Girls are more of a challenge when they are in their teens, but they will always be a close daughter for you don't lose them like you do sons, who after they get married you lose that closeness due to they usually end up doing more things with their wives family because of her closeness to her family. That is what we have experienced anyways.

          • i'm glad my husband would rather retire from the military in NC than MA because for me it's colder there in more than one way yet my family treat my husband just like the rest of the family. they're not always pointing out his differences like they're handicaps. my southern accent is not a handicap. I am darn proud of my accent & where I come from & the next time they start about it, I'm going to fill them in on some of my family history beginning IN MA with my grt etc grandfather being first assistant to John Smith & that my ancestors helped paved the way for their great state.

His now ex-sil was the worst one for it. Thank God she's an ex now & nobody else in the family likes her either, I mean nothing about her. At least it's just my accent they don't like, lol.

          • I don't know if your husbands family is like mine was in MA. But they were always teasing each other, sometimes mercilously. My wife who is from Alabama/Florida was quite offended when she met my aunts & uncles. I then explained the family dynamics to her. She overcame her polite Southern up bringing and started giving as well as she got. Then she was part of the family. I don't know if you have the same situation, but you might try doing the same thing! ^_^

EdinOregon on June 16, 2010 at 2:34 pm
          • I thought that might be the case but I walked in on them talking about me being stupid southern hick & they hoped our son didn't grow up to have my ignorant southern accent. I just walked back out the door. I figured it was better to leave it alone at that moment. His friends are all very nice to me & some of his other relatives. It' just the immediate family other than his mom who was a sweetheart & she passed away in December.

Our two daughter-in-laws are wonderful and we do all get together as a whole family for each of the adult birthdays where I will make dinner, giving the birthday person their choice of the whole meal for me to cook. But it is during those in-between times that we do not get a phone call (unless they have a reason to) to just see how we are doing. But our daughter calls EVERYDAY, so she can know how we are doing and keep us updated with what and how she is doing. We call her our \”Sunshine Girl\”! She is our youngest and is going to turn \”30\” this year.

Cami on June 16, 2010 at 1:00 am
    • I would open the room up to a bay area, where the kids could use a unique work area for homework, crafts or collecting things. I like the idea of softer or muted colors that thematically carry through the house, but consult the winners to bring in a choice of comforters, pillow cases etc. The choices would be literally wheeled in so the kids no matter what age could pick and choose. I would also love to see a type of book case unit, for collectibles and fine books. Hard wood natural floors are always best, but once again a throw rug that the family chooses would be great. If Vermont is the state, I think a soft cushy rug with a cushy no flame retardant couch for the kids would be wonderful too.

Janzee on June 15, 2010 at 11:49 pm
      • That would be cool to have some elements picked by the winner…otherwise- show two sample rooms ahead of time and then put in the one that fits the winner's needs…okay, now I am just in dream land.

        • Lions, Tigers and Bears oh my. What a great organic comment Ed. I have alot of friends who are hunters, and I think it is so important for kids to be connected to the outdoors. I love the idea of an art/play room where you bring the wilderness to children. Mmmm maybe collection tanks, a microspcope, telescope. Vermont would have every opportunity for a lookout into nature, space, and what can be seen through the eyes of science.

          • When I was a kid I actually had a friend by the name of Stevie, whose father was a ham operator and whose mom let all of the kids draw with crayons on their own wall. They had a "pick" cake in the frig, for everyone to grab a hank off of. He had that kind of a room with unusual artifacts, and you could spend all day studying his fossils and wierd pics of animals. We would go on little expeditions with him down to the creek to unturn rocks, and found pieces of things to explore under his microscope. Then we climbed his tree house, where Stevie Toffel told us some of the best scifi stories I have ever heard.

    • Can we have a girl room and a boy room?? It would sure help to know where it's going to be. If it will be at a ski location, then I would have to say a snowboarding/sports room for the boys. If Disney is a sponsor, which I hope they are, then how could those two things work together? Lets see..The last Cars movie was set in the desert.. If perhaps this cars movie has some woods/evergreen tree scenes, I have always wanted to decorate my boys room into a camping scene with evergreen trees and a tent with maybe a bear and a lake/fishing mural. Is there any info. on the cars movie? Anyway, that would go well with what the location is likely to be (just guessing)

Cami on June 15, 2010 at 11:50 pm
      • I had that thought about skiing anbd then thought not to say it since we didn't know the location, but…realistically, Mary gave snow as a clue…so, a preteen/teen room with a winter sports theme would be good…or just snow in general. My daughter has combined her love for a Christmastime birthday and her love of Paris for her current room which is Paris in the winter…eifel towers and snowflakes.

Real Ice skates, snow board, mittens, ear muffs, scarf, hats. Maybe an ice/snow castle (on wall) depending on the age I guess. White covered evergreen trees (on wall) Big stuffed bears and penquins would be cute. Off white furniture, maybe a four poster bed again with sparkly sheers as canopy/drape.

We sat there gossiped, read poetry and stuffed our faces with marshmellows. I think a child's room would be fantastic with a wall mural three D, that could get carrried out somehow into the room. Maybe the colors of the mural melt into the wood floor or some sort of wood column that carries that mural out.

    • Could do a crayola room for younger kids…that is something that can be gender nuetral. If by chance the home ends up in Pennsylvania that would be a great idea as there is the crayola factory…which now that I am on Pennsylvania- they also have the Hershey Chocolate Factory there; so, that could be a room too…not that I thought it was in Pennsylvania before a minute ago,but once I said Crayola I was on a Pennsylvania spree…which now that I am rambling, if it is Vermont they can do an ice cream treat themed room.

    • Okay, I have another idea for the kid's room from my college days. I had a friend we called Artist Bob, who made all the sets for a theater group I help started at the UA. One afternoon, artist Bob invited us to open his garage, and upon doing so asked me to ever so slightly push a domino, which caused a ball to roll through a tunnel, which caused three wooden stick pins to spin around, and then a wooden train to wind around a track. When asked how he built this sculpture, he replied "physics my dear Watson". So, I think a sculpture like this in the kids room, that would promote a fascination for art, math, physics, engineering, and the list goes on would be very educational. This sculpture could be contained in a small area and the rest of the area used for space.

Janzee on June 15, 2010 at 7:48 pm
      • That would be very cool and would probably intrigue many kids.

        Debra G. on June 16, 2010 at 2:45 am

Janzee on June 16, 2010 at 4:01 am
        • I loved the Mousetrap game when I was younger. I even bought one for my grandchild but unfortunately they do not play games like I did when I was a child. I Love games even now! I think they are much more family friendly then TV programs.

          1LMichele on June 16, 2010 at 6:32 pm
          • Could not agree more! Shoot the TV!

            Debra G. on June 16, 2010 at 6:41 pm
          • LOL! And to be honest Debra, I really believe the TV is the devil's #1 Tool in keeping families apart and from spending time with our Creator in prayer and in His Word. So SLY he is. I have pretty much given up TV recently for this reason. But I will confess that the sly one has done it again to be with having me spend sooooo much time on the computer now with this clue game blog. Fun and good things are ok if done in moderation, but the problem comes in when they drag you into taking up so much time in our shortened life that they control us and take us away from the important things in life and what we were created for.

        Debra G. on June 15, 2010 at 9:46 pm
    • I would make it a room where you interact with construction elements and have a hiding place with a secret door in the closet. THere would be things to climb maybe something that swings where you can drop onto your bed…..keep them active and having fun!

    • I really like the colors they used in the Plymouth house for the children's room. I can see both my Granddaughter and Grandson really loving that room. I particularly liked the Dog picture in the room. Since you brought it up I have envisioned a nice red lobster over the fp of the Plymouth house to match the kit counter and the couch. I would see if the son of the son of the winner of the Albuquerque house could do one. I like his style and use of primary colors. If it is in Colorado I might do deer or snowmen or fir trees for the children's room. I guess teddy bears go well with VT . We shall see soon.

      sobeit1 on June 17, 2010 at 4:57 pm
    • Reading the others I am inspired and the theater reply reminded me of a Puppet theater. I would have a puppet theater for children and a log cabin theme would go well in VT or CO. Lot s of Lincoln Logs to build and forts and clubhouses are great.
There are a lot of sports themes and for the Plymouth house I have been designing a lobster in a red sox cap for over the fireplace. I know how tacky. I just love Red Sox and Lobster.

    • I would love to see a vintage style amusement park theme. What child doesn't like heading to an amusement park, midway fair event, or a carnival. My good friend painted a really cute mural of a rollercoaster and merry go round in my son's room. It even had a ticket booth and concession stand on the walls. It is such a fun theme that can grow with kids and be updated as they get older.

Besides, perhaps they weren't just thinking of us diehard southwesterners but a winner from some other part of the country who isn't as much into the decor as we are but love the house because it was totally awesome even lacking the kiva fireplace which could easily be added.
