      • Thank you for the info Peggy. How big is the lot? What was wrong with the existing house?

EdinOregon on June 24, 2010 at 2:28 am
      • Hi Peggy — so nice to meet you! Are you allowed to give us more information? If not the actual address, can you at least tell us if it is possible to fence the property, if not for horses then at least for dogs? If you can give us more information be prepared to be bombarded with questions!

        C&E on June 24, 2010 at 10:30 pm
        • Oh, can you also tell us the size of the acreage? Thank you!

          C&E on June 24, 2010 at 10:31 pm
    • While I love New England and wish I were there now, I'm a little disappointed that New England will be the choice back to back, two years in a row.

      • ?? Last year the Dream Home was in New Mexico! This year's Green Home was in New England, but for the first time — the two previous ones were in the Southeast.

    • Vermont is one of our most beautiful states. Clean air, no litter. LOVE it there. I am surprised that HGTV has never put a elevator in any of their multi story homes. A must for Baby Boomers :) Just a suggestion……

    • Thank you so much Gerry, for providing us this link. the pictures were great to see. Looks like they started the construction on May 20. Hummmm, I wonder where we were in our clues at that same moment. Looks like they have had great weather too. Only looks like it might have rained on June 5 and 6, which June 5 was my 41st Anniversary and we celebrated it at my favorite restaurant for Black &Blue Salmon and a wonderful salad bar and a free Mud Pie dessert of Coffee Ice Cream on a Chocolate crust. YUMMY! Huge too!

  21. This is way to cool and can not wait to start putting my enters in for dreamhome 2011. Yea!!!!

Annie on June 18, 2010 at 2:51 pm
    • I too wondered what I was seeing on HGTVPro a couple days ago and in a couple other places. I was so very wrong about the location I just kept digging further until I realized that it had "slipped" out. The pictures already tell a lot about the end project. It should be a real great one. And a beautiful choice of location! So now I agree with Annie…when can we start putting our entries in? Or sign up to be notified?

Vicki Isleman on June 19, 2010 at 10:00 pm

  22. I just looked at the video again and it really is a stunning area. I love having the Dream Home in a location where you can fully enjoy the four seasons in all there beauty !!!

    Zoie1361 on June 18, 2010 at 9:54 am
    • I could never live where there weren't 4 seasons of the year. Born and raised in NJ, I'm used to all the above along with the shore.

MaryMead on July 16, 2010 at 2:37 am
  23. There are 54 pictures of the construction so far… just follow the posted link above.

GerryinCali on June 18, 2010 at 2:54 pm
    • Hummm, I thought there was only 40 of them. I will have to go back and check out the rest.

      1LMichele on June 18, 2010 at 7:13 pm
    • Recheck them again. There are actually 74 pictures.

MaryMead on July 16, 2010 at 2:38 am
  24. I've never been there either, but that is one area that my husband and I have always wanted to see. Thank you HGTV. We have a lot of the same in the NW, so next year consider this area. Can't wait to watch it become the Dream House. Absolutely loved the 2010 Dream House.

Jacque on June 18, 2010 at 2:56 pm
    • I agree Jacque, I hope Jack Thomason will consider the Northwest for the Green Home 2011, that would be nice, specially in Washington State, its the evergreen state!

Neelie on June 23, 2010 at 8:52 pm
      • You can put me on the NW band wagon too!

  25. We can all thank dreamn-again for discovering the HGTVPro pages yesterday…. they weren't supposed to be posted yet…. but since they were found…. and quite a few bloggers peeked… perhaps Mary and Jack's hands were seen and they were a little forced to give us the reveal….. Thanks again dreamn-again! Kudos to you!

GerryinCali on June 18, 2010 at 3:03 pm
  26. Mary please explain the clues. We are sorry that we spoiled your surprise by finding the location yesterday. We would love to play again next year and it would be great if we know how you think that the clues link to the dream home location.

noidealeft on June 18, 2010 at 3:04 pm
    • Yes, I agree. I would love to know if we interpreted the clues (individually) correctly. I'm pretty sure clue one was Honey spoon= Honeymoon. Please let us know, puzzles are fun, but we need to see the correct answers. Thanks.

zpdedoda on June 18, 2010 at 4:19 pm
      • zpdedoda, I missed seeing that connection with the honey and spoon to mean Honeymoon, but that is a good one. Yes, Mary as I have already asked, I would love to see exactly what the matches were to your clues. My guess now for the "Big Girl's Don't Cry" was for the "Four Seasons" of whom sung that song, and refers to the four season location of Vermont. And obviously the last number clue of 4393 was for the Mansfield Mountain elevation. Curious about the Wrong Way clue and others. This was one state I did not do my research on since so many others were already doing it. Thanks for delighting us with the clue details in the future. Please!

        1LMichele on June 18, 2010 at 7:24 pm
    • I think DenSteve was the one who came up with the Wikepedia link that showed all the clues. You might ask him nicely. "Mean Mary" will never tell! ^_^

BESIDES, A PERSON CAN LOOK AT MY COMMENT STREAM TO SEE IF I'M A GOOD BLOGGER. ; )

I HAVE FOUND AN OLD PAIR OF GLASSES AND HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM……

I FOUND A PERMANENT MARKER AND HAVE DRAWN A LINE STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE OF EACH LENSE. SO IF I FIND THAT I HAVE SOME PECULIAR HORIZONTAL LINES NEXT TO THE THUMBS ON THE RIGHT, I WILL JUST PUT ON MY HAPPY GLASSES WITH A VERTICAL LINE DOWN THE MIDDLE AND I WILL DECLARE …..

"WOW SOMEONE THOUGHT THAT WAS A GREAT COMMENT"!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HGTV DREAM TEAM AND ALL WHO STUCK WITH VERMONT. WE ALL WORKED HARD FOR NUMEROUS WEEKS AND HAD FUN.

        • I can't wait to see a floor plan! What do you expect?

OmahaLady on June 18, 2010 at 4:21 pm
          • I'm not sure if they said or not…But with a tiny lot, I would think they might go with at least 3 floors. It looks like it will have a nice view. I am guessing they will put in a hot tub, and if 3 floors maybe an elevator. There are plenty of pools at the resort, but I would still like a small exercise pool, don't think that will happen though.. Unless they have a sponsor like Endless Pools.
I suppose I would be over stepping my bounds if I called Endless Pools and suggested they give Jack a call.

Cami on June 18, 2010 at 4:51 pm

            1LMichele on June 18, 2010 at 7:31 pm

GerryinCali on June 18, 2010 at 4:39 pm
        • Done. I told Debra that it should be Hawaii in 2012 and Virginia in 2013. Although, I like the thought of the Dream Vacation Home as a separate contest from DH and GH. Maybe the Travel Channel will take it on. I will have to check out their blogs to see if we can start pestering them.

boomer on June 18, 2010 at 6:37 pm
          • Pester away.. The Travel Channel could use something new and improved, with the exception of Samanth Brown, I love her. I still think she should have a sidekick though..It's kind of depressing to watch her vacation alone.

Cami on June 18, 2010 at 7:42 pm

          • Or you could just go for your own show.. They have a lot of eating shows on the Travel Channel. Perhaps you could have your own Travel Dessert Show, with a main focus on cake of course.

Cami on June 20, 2010 at 3:28 am
          • OMG, that would be the DREAM job!!! Let Andrew Zimmer eat bugs and carcasses, cake works great for meLOL!!!!

            Debra G. on June 20, 2010 at 3:33 am
          • I don't really like the gross bug show and the pig out show on the Travel Channel. Nothing against the hosts at all, I'm sure they are wonderful people. Last time I looked, those were their only regular shows besides, Samantha Brown. I guess my biggest problem with their main show line up is it's unbalanced. It seems more like another food channel, than a travel channel. I do like the specials they tend to show on the weekends. 'Course a lot are re runs. I guess my point is, more adventure and places that an American is more likely to go, with a little food mention on the side. Maybe you could have your own show, with your husband and travel the world, and I'll have my own show and show traveling North America with a big crazy family.. Mine might be more suited for a comedy channel. LOL.

Cami on June 20, 2010 at 11:10 pm

      • I wrote this before, but was told it was worth repeating so here is my feeling about skiing:

As for me I will not let a thing like a full on face plant which resulted in a LOVELY black eye, deter me from learning to do something that I apparently should already be pretty good at by virtue of my figure skating skills.

Note to ski instructors EVERYWHERE: Ice skating and skiing are not even close to being similar! We are talking legions apart, oceans away, from one universe to the next diametrically opposed to each other. And to that six-year old that whizzed by just as my face hit the ground, it is not nice to laugh at adults just because they scream on the way down…

          • Ha! I am serious, I think I am switching to a snow board and Jack has to teach me!

And, I think the ski resorts should follow suit with the country club pool time and designate an adults only period! You know, a loud speaker will announce "Anyone under the age of 18, off the slopes!"

            Debra G. on June 18, 2010 at 11:20 am
          • The slopes? I second that Debra. I've always thought hockey gear would be appropriate apparel on the beginner's slope.

MeKhazSimi on June 18, 2010 at 4:41 pm
          • My sons ski and snow board. Snow boardin is harder Debra. You don't have any ski poles and both your feet are strapped in. No schushing your feet to move! Better stick with the skis. Just learn to stop and turn! ^_^

The main ski instructor that rides a motorcycle on the STOWKED video, does some fancy tricks and he isn't that young. 50's or 60's.

Cami on June 18, 2010 at 7:52 pm

      • Think Chevy Chase's Christmas Vacation movie. They could put you on one of those snow discs and let you fly down the hill. No previous experience is required! It would be so much fun and provide hours of entertainment to all the other bloggers as we watch over and over as you go screaming down the hill with no means of stopping short of the tree that is swiftly approaching in your path!!

        Debra G. on June 19, 2010 at 1:06 am

  37. Look at how they trow down the house that was allreary on that land. When i frist saw tha foundation, I though the house next door was way to close. In building turms that is call a scrape and build. And did you notice the white pipe around the foundation under all that sand? That is called an french drain. no water in your basment ever.

densteve on June 18, 2010 at 10:31 am
    • I was thinking the same thing about the white house being too close. Oui, Oui, on the French drain, although with that slope you wouldn't think water would stick around long.

AnneEliseSouth on June 18, 2010 at 3:58 pm
      • Just think, you can step right out the front door and ski right down that slope. Or in my case tumble down gracefully.

Cami on June 18, 2010 at 4:37 pm
      • Keeps water from getting under the house. That way none of the cement will ever heve.

densteve on June 18, 2010 at 12:01 pm
        • I guess they build everything first class, especially when the world is watching your work.
When I lived in NH, there were whole stretches of road that heaved every winter,so I know what you mean. When water freezes, it can cause a lot of havoc. I hadn't thought of that until you mentioned it.

AnneEliseSouth on June 18, 2010 at 6:27 pm
        • Densteve, you are not only the Best clue guesser, you are so smart with construction facts. Thanks for all your explanations. I wondered to what that white building was but I thought there were only 40 pictures so I have not seen the last 14 or so to see it get torn down. How big do you think the lot is? I thought it looked small also for putting up a house like the type in on the video.

          1LMichele on June 18, 2010 at 7:38 pm
    • I thought the same thing. One thing for sure they didn't have to wait for utilities to be developed for the homesite since there was an existing dwelling. I wonder if the area was hit by the late snow that hit the New England area. I think so.

OmahaLady on June 18, 2010 at 4:29 pm
    • Thank God no water in basement. That's why we lost so much stuff to black mold in that crappy old base housing mess we lived in while in NY. I wanted someone to videotape when they knocked that place down before building new houses for my own closure but nobody did. Oh well. It's been so long now, I no longer have nightmares about it anymore. Basements are great to have. That is one of the things I do miss about NY.

      ttsousa1 on June 18, 2010 at 5:41 pm
    • When I looked at the first pictures I thought the same thing. It was looking like a zero lot home for awhile. I didn't notice the French Drain at first but I do now! Of course I just did a quick skim through the pictures yesterday before they shut the link down! That's my excuse & I am sticking to it! ^_^ Good eyes!

EdinOregon on June 18, 2010 at 10:29 pm
    • I was wondering what was going to happen with that building!

NJJ on June 18, 2010 at 10:56 pm
    • French drains are great. The house I grew up in had french drains and we didn't have trouble with flooded basements. The only thing we needed was a de-humidifier.

I'm not very good at figuring these things out, but it was a great adventure to sit by and watch you guys do your magic! I'm especially impressed by the fact that it was weeks ago that we bloggers were viewing the promo about the Stow resort.

Cami on June 18, 2010 at 10:43 am
      • Welcome back Cami, I missed you. Like I said I'm a better cheerleader, it was a great adventure for sure. We need to crack open a glass of Chateau La feet, and drink it out of a s h o e!

AnneEliseSouth on June 18, 2010 at 3:51 pm
        • I'm not familiar with wine, but I am guessing drinking out of a s h o e would help to give it that expensive, well aged flavor people seem to like. What words would a wine expert give to describe the taste of wine drunk from a- s h o e ? Probably depends on the type of shoe. For instance, the difference between a pair of high style New York pumps would give a totally different flavor than a pair of well used Vermont men's boots.

Cami on June 18, 2010 at 11:15 am
          • Probably in Vermont it would be ducks. Leather hiking boots with rubber about 2'' up from sole.
Can't guarantee what it'll taste like, probably better stick to a glass of apple cider, in a regular glass. that would be a fitting Vermont drink. Cold cider in the summer, hot mulled cider in winter.

AnneEliseSouth on June 18, 2010 at 6:44 pm

EdinOregon on June 18, 2010 at 7:02 pm
          • Well Ed. we'll call it poetic license, plus the fact is, Sr. Mary Agnes, is never going to see how I spelled it.
She was elderly then, and I don't want to do the math to figure out how many years ago that was! As they say sometimes "Ignorance is Bliss".

    What I see:
A walk out lower level (probably 2 stories above that?) wondering if they put in a steel beam or two to support the weight in the back.
No idea of what outside spaces will be included.
2 car garage on the right front.
Not a very big foot print- I say that because of the size of the garage compared to the rest.
Unusual shape – I bet to claim the best views.

  50. I am STOKED about STOWE…

but my husband won't be – he HATES cold weather.

So, I guess it will be my dream home and not his but I'm sure he'll come along. After all, he loves waffles and pancakes and REAL maple syrup. He'll just have to stay in by the fire or in the hot tub or dry sauna (a must have for a true spa feel in a resort location) until the weather warms up to his liking.

Thanks for picking such a picturesque setting!
