Announcement: Anonymous Comments Are Closed

Hello Dream Home Bloggers! We’re all very excited about the upcoming 15th anniversary of the HGTV Dream Home in scenic Stowe, VT. I want to thank everyone for keeping up their interest and enthusiasm, even in the “off season”.  We really appreciate that the discussions on here continue to go on, even when there isn’t a whole lot of news to talk about.  In the 3+ years since we started this blog, a real community has formed here.

Now onto the business at hand.  In recent weeks, there has been some discourse within our communities and we’ve notice the amount of inappropriate and inflammatory comments continue to rise.  In order to curb some of that, starting today we are removing the ability to comment anonymously.

What does that mean for you?
It means that you will need to login in order to comment on this blog as well as the Green Home blog.

Login with what?
If you haven’t already done so, you will need to create an account with either Intense Debate, the comment system we use here on the blog, or with WordPress, the software we use to power the blogs.

Where can I register?
If you’d like an account just to post comments, you can sign-up with Intense Debate at http://intensedebate.com/signup.  Many popular sites and blogs are now using Intense Debate across the web, and you will be able to use this same account across all of them.  If you’d like to try your hand at writing your own blog, register with WordPress at http://en.wordpress.com/signup/ and use your credentials from there as your login.

What are the benefits of registering with Intense Debate? Creating an account lets you:

  • - Upload a profile picture
  • - Build your reputation score
  • - Keep track of all your comments
  • - Vote on comments
  • - Receive email notifications when new comments are posted

What happened to Twitter and Facebook? We’re working with Intense Debate to see if that is an option.  Currently, logging with your Twitter or Facebook accounts is only available when anonymous commenting is allowed.  If we can find a way to turn either of these back on without turning anonymous commenting back on, we will definitely do so.

  10. Have you seen those new "bubble walls" you can get for buildings or even greenhouse applications? If a large bubble is injured, it can be repaired so it will not show. Whole homes could have this! (clear, opaque, white….)

I SAW HOW THE FACTORY CUTS OUT THE FABRIC for the fabric bubbles. http://www.inhabitat.com/2007/02/27/bubble-buildi

RJMstone on July 1, 2010 at 4:39 pm
    • This is brilliant. One brilliant individaul could find this. Did you see a video, or utube piece, or did you actually go to National Swimming Center in Bejing. The application is extraordinary. Check this out HGTV, even if it is a used as in a small area of a home.

Janzee on July 1, 2010 at 5:33 pm
      • Janzee
No unfortunately I didn't get to Bejing! I would have loved to! Amazing whats going on over there. Their cities are looking just like ours here! Wealthy new generation.

Saw the amazing factory on my TV today or yesterday. They even give each bubble a wind stress test. Wish I could remember the channel.

    • It's probably very earthquake resistant too. I wouldn't like it in a house though. Too much light & too much heat load from the sun coming into the building.

  13. People were wondering if the floor plan was the one shown in the video…looking at the pics of the house as it currently is…I'd have to guess not- it just doesn't look portioned right as well where the garage is sitting.

I am wondering if they incorporated any of the winninng bathroom or bedroom designs that are linked on that page.

    • Thanks Our Army Family, I am with you all the way. Imagine before the fourth of July, and a word from Mary and a clip from Gail. Yes!!!!

Janzee on July 1, 2010 at 5:42 pm
  14. So- I am guessing that we'll get a new blog tomorrow…are you taking requests, because I would like either a floor plan or even the new color scheme for the dream home page…either one will do!

Our Army Family on July 1, 2010 at 5:07 pm
    • You're being too generours with your choices, Our Army family. Floor plans always precede the color scheme.

Lessie on July 1, 2010 at 8:56 pm
      • Instead, we got the same pictures to discuss that we found and discussed on this blog topic…oh well.

    • Great, thank you. Notice it isn't posted until July 21st. So I bet we have about a three week wait at least until we even see a hint of the home's style.

      charmayne3c on July 1, 2010 at 8:57 pm
  16. Just looked through the blog archive…I couldn't find when they changed the color scheme over, but it looks like the floor plan didn't come out until July 21st…this year the 21st falls on a Wednesday- we've been on a Friday sequence lately…so, maybe the floor plans will be a welcome back present for me on July 23rd when I come home.

As for the color scheme…we would love to have the new page look to celebrate the 2011 Dream Home and help us with our dreaming!

Our Army Family on July 1, 2010 at 5:18 pm
    • Your predictions based on going back to the archives has been right on Our Army Family, and I am in agreement with you about a new page celebrating the 2011 DH, not only for the blog but all media can then utilize clips from the new layout. I imagine this is what is taking time before they roll out this grand new presentation.

  17. Seeing we are asked to vote on a new green home location. How about California.

DBCoop says he is there and would be easier for Californians to visit. It would be a great state to live in.
    More jobs too…….
NEWS in May….."California Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger has apparently let slip that Tesla Motors will be teaming up with Toyota to build electric cars."

RJMstone on July 1, 2010 at 5:38 pm
    • I have been thinking the same thing, also, but where- someplace in Wine Country? I have been driving my husband's truck, and have put a Kabosh on any future cars until the electric or alternate fuels come out.

Janzee on July 1, 2010 at 5:48 pm
    • Hey RJM, I have a footnote. I got up to stretch my back a second a go, and looked toward a blue wall, that I have in the home I am staying in in Cali. I don't know where the pattern came from, but embossed on the wall is an imprint of your water wall. It's still there!!

Janzee on July 1, 2010 at 5:52 pm
      • I thought you were back in Vegas? The minute they come out with electric cars the government will put a high tax on electricity! :@ I will keep driving my truck until it collapses on the road. I can put a lot of gas in it for the cost of a new vehicle car payments! ^_^

EdinOregon on July 1, 2010 at 6:34 pm
        • I go back and forth to both cities. When I am working, I am in Cali and have a place in LA. Today I am there, and going to Idlyllwild. I am in agreement with you on that truck, I would rather put money in land or a home that is as sustainable as possible. The only vehicle I love i a truck. You can haul a boat, camp out, be higher than everything that is on the road, Years ago I drove a blue Ford pick up in NJ. The fancy woman used to laugh at me when I showed up with the truck, and had such a good private laugh about the comment.

Janzee on July 1, 2010 at 3:30 pm
          • Good for you! I love trucks! A few people who have run into me wished they had been in a bigger vehicle!!! ^_^

EdinOregon on July 1, 2010 at 9:32 pm

Janzee on July 1, 2010 at 9:31 pm
      • LOL!
That is some BUBBLE structure in Beijing!

"The highly sustainable structure is clad with Ethyl Tetra Fluoro Ethylene (ETFE) that weighs just one percent of an equivalent sized glass panel. The bubble cladding lets in more light than glass and thoroughly cleans itself with every rain shower. It is also a better thermal insulator than glass.

Although fragile in appearance, the structure is ideally suited to the seismic conditions in Beijing and is arguably the most seismic-resistant building in the world.Hi-tech, sustainable greenhouse Clad in high-tech ETFE cushions, the Water Cube acts as an insulated greenhouse. About 20% of the solar energy falling on the building is trapped within it and used to heat the swimming pools and the interior area.

        • So it sounds like a form of polymer that has been fabrictized. As my mind wraps around the applications of this material for cars. The only thing I wouldn't put it in is puts because it sounds like a relative of Teflon. Mama Janzee says no to cooking with Teflon, tell that to your cute pup MJ when you cook for him/her.

Janzee on July 1, 2010 at 8:21 pm
      • CONT'D
"With these translucent recyclable panels, the centre is well lit during the day, with appropriate levels of internal daylight, visual connection and visual comfort. Up to 55% savings on lighting energy use can be achieved in the leisure pool hall.

To reduce the energy consumption of the centre further, the design has incorporated many energy recovery systems, such as heat recovery from warm exhaust air for warming up the cold outside air (fresh air supply).

Since Beijing suffers from water shortage, water conservation was also central to Arup’s design philosophy. The firm proposed the reuse and recycling of 80% of water harvested from the roof catchment areas, pool backwash systems and overland flows. These aim to reduce the reliance and pressures on local receiving waters and the municipal water supply system by discharging directly to the sewer system."

  18. So- I took time to go back through the Green Home archives too and it seems like we were the only ones behind last year's schedule…they started clues to the Green Home location in the last week of June…so, are you ready to start thinking green?

Ummmm, a certain percentage of my money goes to feed the hungry, etc. etc. every month. I have never considered paying taxes for someone's second home or even first home.

I would feel very uncomfortable to have my address publicly posted on a website without my permission, asking for donations.
