Building a Mountain Lodge

Hi folks,

Sorry that it’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Things are moving fast at the HGTV Dream Home 2011 construction site. I’ve already chatted with the builder and the architect about this home. I think it’s safe to say that this lodge will be the most outstanding Dream Home to date. Think treehouse. Think amazing views of the mountainside. Think generations of family members gathered around the dining table for Thanksgiving dinner. It’s going to be that kind of home.

I’ve included an amazing photo of the mountains, snapped near the home site, and a shot of our construction crew at work. Also, make sure you check out time-lapse pics of the construction site – new photos were added yesterday.

Cheers!

  1. They're probably busy as HGTV drowned in paperwork as doesn't the winner of the green house take possession next week? I thought I remembered it would be around the 28th sometime. That was July wasn't it? Or could it have possibly been August? My memory is going, going, gone …………….

  2. So….Back to the reality of having no impact whatsoever on the Dream Home information releasing timeframe.

Jack, how are the plans for the Great Room/Surround Sound Theatre coming??

So back to the reality of having absolutely no say in the design of the Dream Home…

Yet I wonder if I can possibly get Jack's attention here

How are things going at the Dream Home site Jack?

That is a very straightforward open-ended question. If it doesn't appeal to Jack, maybe It'll appeal to Mary.

Cami on July 21, 2010 at 3:04 pm
    • Maybe Mary will post something new if Coop threatens to go away. I know it has happened once but he hasn't tried it in a long time. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Actually, I think your appeal to Jack may work. He looks like he is very responsive to his fans. :p

  3. Jack can't you just go over Mary's head and make a new blog for us. We would love to hear from you.

Am I going to have to tune into my ESP to get some intel around here? Careful, I might reveal something you don't want revealed yet, or at all. ; )

Cami on July 21, 2010 at 3:09 pm
  4. Everyone send Mary a 'Get Well' card, I'm sure she has been very ill. That is my conclusion as to why she hasn't given us anything new. Please get well soon Mary !!

  5. Ok I am consulting my ESP, since we have nothing else to go on.. Mud is a problem today at the Dream Home site. It has rained hard today for at least 40 minutes. One of the construction workers had a minor injury this week, which required a doctors visit. They are finishing up on the roofing this week. All siding will be on within 2 weeks. All windows are being put in this week, with the exception of 2 windows that had to be reordered. All doors are on except the sliding doors. Cement was poured on driveway and sidewalk last week, and they are currently working on brick pavers, and stack rock accents. The landscaper has a major obstacle to consider, and he isn't sure what to do. Jack thinks this Dream Home has a lot of the same building issues as the Lake Lure Dream Home, but is much more confident about the outcome. Jack had an icy drink today along with a hamburger, he rarely eats fries.. I feel like he is on the Western side of the U.S. rather than Vermont. He just might be on the Western side. I feel like it is either Montana or Hawaii, but Colorado is nagging at me.

Anyone else want to give their ESP a try. It's fun.

Cami on July 21, 2010 at 4:29 pm
    • Here goes: I have a strong sense that we won't get a new blog thread today. What's more…hey, what happened? Hold on a minute…I just came to a dead end and lost my signal. Oh heck, just when I was sure some very important news was about to come through. Isn't that the way it always happens!

DBCoop on July 21, 2010 at 11:13 pm
    • Cami and DBCoop –
You both did better than I.
Mine was a wrong number!………………………..have to learn to be more careful when I dial my ESP.

zipdedoda on July 22, 2010 at 12:42 am
      • Oh well, zipdedoda, don't fret. I'm beyond dialing a wrong number…it's more like I can't remember the number to begin with these days! So my ESP is really what I'd more accurately call Essentially Speculative Projections

DBCoop on July 22, 2010 at 1:13 am
    • I'm going to give you all a hint. Close your eyes, concentrate on the subject, and type everything that comes to mind.

As long as everyone knows you are using your ESP, there isn't any harm in writing truths, half truths, and complete fibs is there?? It's all in fun. ; )

Cami on July 22, 2010 at 1:25 am
    • What does ESP mean?

Some think it means Extra Sensory Perception.

Here is a list of other possibilities…

      Extra Special Personality
      Example of Silly Persons
      Every Sound Personified
      Every Sense Personalized
      Extra Sounds Perceived
      Example of a Silly Parade
      Expired synapses presumed
      Evolutionary Senses Proven
      Extra strong perceiving

    • I think they are behind on the building due to the rain. Sidewalks? – Rock walks I hope. So they are too busy playing catch up to show us anything, but they are doing the best they can. I even picture the driveway as small grey & brown stones. With the weather & running everything by the building associations they have their hands full. Reason he had a burger was that was all he had time for. Had to cancel his trip to scout out Colorado due to the delays.

  6. I've just made a tentitive lunch date next week with my grandson and his chaotic schedule. He so has his ducks all in a row as they say. He's putting in 14 hour days driving a combine for survival/mad money next fall, college class schedules, dorm sharing w/buddies, part-time on campus job all lined up. He's left the nest-!!—but his parents are being so "parents"—–still circling the tree trunk, in a quandary, as to "how did this happen.
He's all grown up. We're leaving them home. ha

May we find Mary, Jack, Linda and the crew along the way<3

  12. Hope the Gristmill Builders batten down the hatches at the Dream Home…some rough weather is coming through. There is a severe thunderstorm alert for Stowe, VT this afternoon and evening. Showers and thunderstorms likely until midnight… Then a slight chance of showers after midnight. Patchy fog after midnight. Some thunderstorms may produce damaging winds and large hail until midnight. Lows around 60. Light and variable winds. Chance of rain 70 percent. Better not slow progress on our Dream Home!

DBCoop on July 22, 2010 at 1:06 am
    • Seems like Stowe is having the same kind of weather as the rest of us in the North East. All will go well, especially for the Dream Home.

    • Hope they got the roof on by now!
If so,then they can start to let us see

their fans to see the inside yet.)

  13. I have a super strong sense that Cami entertains all of us with her ability to perceive what is going on with the Dream Home and the Dream Team. I sense that many of the bloggers have given up on this blog and the advertisers are getting a bit antsy with the down turn in comments and new posts from Mary. I sense that Jack is telling Chad that he should post something on the 22nd because Mary is unplugged at this time and that she and Waldo may be vacationing.

    • LINDA W. what color and pattern of flannel sheets did you pick out?

If you are having many built-in bunks built for the teen visitors, will they have privacy curtains for them made out of lodge theme materials? Will the bunks have their own light and above DVD player? Will they be stacked 2 or 3 high? I see the ceilings are rather high! So excited to see!

    Would you agree?
We all feel a bit ignored?
So, do we feel like a "group hug"? http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:1elZNU6As9xwgM

    http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys_feeling

RJMstone on July 22, 2010 at 1:54 am
    • I agree. Group hugs all around. If anyone spots Mary or Jack squeeze them extra hard, until they squeal a few lines, or squawk out a video. Or just squeeze, until the floor plans fall out.

In other words all they need is some extra lovin.

Cami on July 21, 2010 at 9:06 pm
      • LOL! Right on, Cami—squeal, squawk, or drop those floor plans.

A new blog thread, a great new video, or the ultimate prize, floor plans—in any order. Bring'em on, either one, two, or the whole trio. Spoil us, heap on the sensory overload, leave us delirious with joy. Inception—it CAN be done, if we bloggers work together to plant the seed…a dream within a dream within a dream!

  16. Wouldn't you know that a comment about ESP pushed me from a rep score of 114 to 115p. Does this mean I can retire my blogging credentials and start collecting my blogger's pension at 5,000 posts?

Amazing—as I look back over my HGTV blogging career, it seems like it spans decades. Yet HGTV brought Intense Debate onboard barely over a year ago. Now all those devious clues from Mischievous MARY, days and nights of nonstop research, composing haiku, poetry, mini-stories, waiting patiently for new blog threads and more photos, even the tedium of cut and paste on occasion—all have taken their toll.

When I started a few years back, I was 5' 11" with a full head of dark hair. Now I'm barely 5'10", the hair is thinner, greying, and my eyesight, like my memory, no longer quite so sharp. Imagine by this time next year…when Dream Home 2012 rolls around! I don't know which is less forgiving, time, or the HGTV blogs….

  19. Hi everybloggie,
Just finished a few laundry mountains :O) Six of our children's friends stayed with us here at " base camp", although they had an hour's drive each morning to reach the mountains. However, it was closer than their hometown in Pennsylvania ! What a great bunch of guys ! Mountain biking is not for the faint hearted ! These boys are fit and brave to take part in racing down mountains ! I watched their helmet cameras on my lap top computer, and they take some high velocity tumbles ! Came home with busted fingers, scrapes and bruises, and just taped up their wounds and went right back up the mountain the next day ! I would've really appreciated a Ski Lodge Dorm. heheh, and a very large wooden kitchen table :O) Those boys ate anything that wasn't " nailed down" !! lol. I bought more bananas than the monkey house at the zoo! ( I guess bananas are full of potassium for muscles ! ) One of the team came in 2nd in his event ! Whooee :O)
I'm happy being the base camp Mom :O) Now back to putting fresh bed linens on all the beds. Kids, don't ya just love 'em !

  21. Hello there! I haven't been around in a quite a while. Whew…it's not even the dog days of summer yet but it's pretty darn muggy here…not that I'm complaining…although would I rather shovel snow or pull weeds? Hmmmmm.

Anyway, today was National Junk Food Day and I am just realizing it at 10:47pm. Ugh! It's too late to go out and get some of my favorites and my forgiven day of the year.

Sooooo….had I known about today's National holiday, what would I have splurged on? Here is my list, simple and probably pretty boring but I like to keep it simple…

    Goldenberg's Peanut Chews
    M&M's (Plain or Peanut….doesn't matter)
Yellow Box Cake with Milk Chocolate Can Frosting….MY FAVORITE CAKE! How sad is that?
A gallon of Milk and a Whole Package of Oreos…ahhh…a true dunker! And, yes, Tums and a nap after that!

How about you? What would be your choice for National Junk Food Day?

    Living the Dream!

P.S. One of these days, I want to grow up to be a person who would say "Yogurt and Granola with some Raisins"! ;)

LynnCoggin on July 22, 2010 at 2:59 am
    • Thanks for the heads up on the junk food day. I have been wanting some pb M&Ms lately, and in the West it's not too late for me yet.

      • You go Girl! Run out to your local Wawa, 7-11, Piggly Wiggly…whatever it is…NOW! Run Forest Run!

        • I never run out for treats. I send my daughters. That may take some more convincing, since I have been sending them out for something every night. But, who can refuse National Junk Food Day. I'll go give it a try.

    • Okay…I just ran across this…

National Junk Food Day. The origins of the holiday are unclear, but we think it's a great reason to chow down on a sugary snack, as long as you practice moderation during the rest of the year.

      Now, for some fun facts!

      Did you know…

The average American eats about 24.5 pounds of candy per year, with 11.6 pounds being chocolate candy

There are 3,961 confectionery and nut stores in the U.S.

The top five ice cream flavors are vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan, strawberry and chocolate chip mint

More than 90% of households in the U.S. consume ice cream

Not into candy or desserts? The U.S. has 12,804 McDonald's restaurants

Hopefully Ben & Jerry's had a good day today! ;)

      Living the Dream!

LynnCoggin on July 22, 2010 at 3:15 am
    • CHOCOLATE, with and without nuts!
      Butter Pecan icecream
      Watermelon, watermelon, and more watermelon
      Yogurt covered raisins

Lynne, as usual, you are on top of your game! Thanks!

Lessie on July 22, 2010 at 6:01 am
    • Disappointed I missed National Junk Food day! My choice for true junk food would have been Twinkees oozing with cream filling! This would have been the only day I could have justified eating one…or two.

  23. Hi everybloggie,

Yes, Cami, I got a chuckle out of your laundry comment ! The funny thing was…after I'd finished the laundry, and put fresh bed linens on all the beds…one of my big kids came in to tell me their friends' van had broken down on the way back to Pennsylvania, so could they all come back and stay another night ?
of course, I said " Yes ! " My husband fired up the BBQ and we all had a cook out and a few cold ones !
I guess I'm doing that laundry mountain again tomorrow evening ! ( But this time, I'll wait a while, until their repaired vehicle is at least in NY :O) Okay, my Dream Wish List for the HGTV Ski Lodge now includes a front loading washer & dryer :O) My old top-loaders are work horses, but are ready for the glue factory :O( lol

  25. Hooray!!! I've been kept out of here all day. I was allowed to read but not to post. I have spent
the time working on my finicky computer all day and nothing else. Rereading a few pages (which
I suggest every one do), you let HGTV know that we are a perfectly compatable group with a lot of
very smart researchers on board. There is no NEED for them to come to our rescue. We keep
asking for the same things. We need to change our stategy and ask some new questions. We
now have seen some new and beautiful pictures of the same timeframe.HGTV Could you please
allow us to just see one picture from the time lapse location from today? so we can see where we
are today. We can still do a lot of guessing from the one picture. Is that any easier than the floor
plans? At least it's a new thought. I know if we dropped out and nobody commented on anything
and if Coop were to leave it would happen!! I want to congratulate H_S for remaining on the list

  33. Summer in Stowe would not be complete without a drive up the 150-year-old, 4.5-mile long Mt. Mansfield Auto Toll Road. For $25 a carload of 6 people can take this scenic route to the top of Vermont’s highest peak. Once there you can gaze all the way to Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks! The road is only open during the day and closes for the cold months, so plan accordingly.

Normally the road is closed to bicycles and motorcycles, but once a year (August 29th this year) cyclists participate in the Race to the Top of Vermont (walkers and runners can also join in):

    http://www.catamounttrail.org/news/3rd-annual-fjg

Gee, those folks look like they are working way too hard! I think I’ll stick to vehicular transportation!

    • I don't know how they bike up that mountain. I bet there are lots of muscular legs in Stowe!

  34. Inspired by C&E's post of a youtube video, I found this. These teens are having fun in the snow, not in the house playing video games like lots of kids today. Just goes to show you, if there are winter activities to participate in, kids will do them. Maybe a cross country ski track in Kansas should be developed. :|

    • Thank you…very informative. The lodge approach is beautiful! Orignally from north western MA and love the old style…hope Linda can keep to it.

tomichi on July 22, 2010 at 5:54 pm
      • I agree, I too love the style. I'm in an area that use to have a lot of adirondack structures, but most were lost to time and disrepair. Luckily, a few have been salvaged and restored. I love it whenI see new construction celebrating the craftsman & adirondack styles.

    • They finally tossed us a bone. Just checked it out and am still a little confused. A tree house? Looks like lots of windows. At least we have some idea of what it's going to look like. Thank you dipdedoda for the link.:p

wrayj on July 22, 2010 at 7:06 pm
      • I'm hoping this tree house will have a large screened in porch…

        have a dippity day!

    • This is an interesting photo. Very tree house like and very rustic, needless to say. It'll be interesting to see if any of this will be incorporated into building the new dreamhome. Take care.

      hsrh10 on July 23, 2010 at 9:07 pm
      • I have a feeling we will see a railings or porch posts in the rough hewn material…
IMHO, "Dream Home" has such a great track record, I look forward to seeing how they do this without being too cliche.

  42. Good morning everyone……I'm feeling a little calmer, not pathetically impatient today. In the whole scope of getting this HGTV Dream Home built….I am but a speck…..a minute voice. We have MONTHS to go…we need to pace ourselves….hold our emotions in check……save our energy…..there's only one thing to do…………STOCK UP ON ICE CREAM!!! I think there's a long, hot, dry, spell coming and we'll need the cooling comfort of our favorite food.
Have a good day….I'm headed outside to enjoy the sunshine.

CeeJoy on July 23, 2010 at 5:36 pm
    • CeeJoy, you can't fool me. I think you too are one of those people who enjoy the anticipation high.

Although, your advice is still marvelous…find a way to pass the time pleasurably and the waiting will become tolerable. I choose a Tom Collins in my hand, a pool chair under my fanny, and the kids splashing in the water. Aren't imaginations great?!

(hmmm, was that a unconscious Whoville reference?)

  43. Good afternoon everyone. Been away from the blog for awhile. The site for this new dreamhome is awesome and the view is breathtaking. Can't wait to see what the inside will be like. The outdoor spaces should be terrific also. CeeJoy, stocking up on ice dream – good idea. I have been making lots of cold lemonade these days. It's very hot in Michigan today near 100 degrees. The storms we have been having are something else. Take care.

  49. Have you ever noticed that the comment section is called " intense debate" yet when people do debate or disagree people often become offended? I find it very ironic. Debating is what brought our Founding Fathers to a place where they could draft a Declaration of Independence today however people get all bent out of shape when you do not agree with them completely and often move to an unkind place. I say bring it on and debate ideas like adults. Naturally remain courteous and leave all objectionable language off the table.

    Nancy9979 on July 4, 2010 at 3:54 pm
  50. I agree -if it was a comment on the painting I chose – well different people different tastes. people should be able to state their opinions without censorship – as long as it doesn't get offensive. That is how the Tea Party restarted to state new options. That is why there are think tanks to get new ideals. How are you Nancy – you seem upset lately – hope you are alright.

joplays on July 4, 2010 at 11:05 am
  51. It's OK to disagree, but name calling is more than disagreeing, no matter who does it.
I'm trying to be a peacemaker, isn't that what enlightened people are supposed to do?
There is enough meanness in the world, we don't need to add to it. Especially not here.
If you had a disagreement on the Green Home blog, just leave it there. Don't bring it here, we don't act that way here, and don't appreciate it.

AnneEliseSouth on July 4, 2010 at 5:33 pm
  52. Perhaps you are correct name calling is inappropriate but I have noticed the person we are discussing manages to use words to demean the other blogger. She may not call the person a name but when she uses her words they are harsh and insulting all the same. I am not the only one that feels this way as Joplay indicates above so please Anne Elise South lets agree there are more ways to skin a cat. And name calling or just plain rude comments like " who do you think you are and you have no buisness" are both inappropriate and hostile. Enough said on the subject.

    Nancy9979 on July 4, 2010 at 7:19 pm
  53. Joplay I am well and happy and I do not have anything but good thoughts on my mind. Thank you for asking. How are you? Are you enjoying the holiday? I am hoping the film Yankee Doodle Dandy is on tonight. It is a classic with James Cagney. He reminds me of my Grandpa from Ireland. He tap danced and sang in Irish pubs in New York when he came to this country. A true Irish tenor with a lovely singing voice.
