Building a Mountain Lodge
![]() |
![]() |
Hi folks,
Sorry that it’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Things are moving fast at the HGTV Dream Home 2011 construction site. I’ve already chatted with the builder and the architect about this home. I think it’s safe to say that this lodge will be the most outstanding Dream Home to date. Think treehouse. Think amazing views of the mountainside. Think generations of family members gathered around the dining table for Thanksgiving dinner. It’s going to be that kind of home.
I’ve included an amazing photo of the mountains, snapped near the home site, and a shot of our construction crew at work. Also, make sure you check out time-lapse pics of the construction site – new photos were added yesterday.
Cheers!

I've threatened to send cookies to the Dream Team before. Do you think that would get their attention?
Maybe if I sent ice cold lemonade as well.
You know I think it's all in the choice of the delivery method.
LISTEN UP MARY! We are talking turkey here or is it tuna fish meatballs or chicken salad. We have been kind and nice for way too long. We even did your messy cleanup of all that ice cream. Us forks are getting tired. We are polished and ready to begin a new adventure. Bring it on! DID YOU HEAR ME MARY! Don't want to say it again. CARRY ON!
How long has the current poll on the main Dream Home site been up?
I think it's funny that -The Sea- and -The Mountains- have gotten most of the votes. I am guessing people don't care too much for the desert and the country during the hot summer season.
I'll bet the poll results would be totally different during the Winter Months.
-The Country- would likely be most popular during the Spring and Fall season.
Gosh, I'm so disappointed I missed the ice cream fight! Glad KP was done by the time I found my way here….I'm not up to cleaning up after you all yet…give me another day.
I am surprised HGTV didn't intervene during that fight…..the place was a mess!
Do they always leave us to our own devices this long???
If we don't get anything new today, we may need to start planning our next big event. I've been considering designing a mega sized high pressure soda pop sprayer.
How about a Soda Pop Blow Out.
HA HA….my dad used to make home made soda…..sometimes it would BLOW the lids right off! Sounded like a machine gun firing!
I voted country because I prefer living away from the noise, pollution, hustle/bustle of a big city; give me room to breathe clean fresh air out in the country where you can let your kids & dogs run free !!!
I watched the 2004 dream home & it was away & a bit isolated . . . so nice . . .
HGTV Why didn't you put a Green Home tab at the top of this page???? It would be very handy!
I agree CeeJoy, I have to google for HGTV green home just to get to the page. It's easier than trying to find it on the website. I've also been googling for HGTVpro.
I have it "bookmarked" so I can access that way, but a tab would be faster.
Did anyone notice this before?? Up at the top under Dream Home to the right of products it says Green Home. Did they just add it or was it there before? I think they just added it. CeeJoy glad you spoke up.
There's no way it was there!!! COOL!
I am pretty sure I would have noticed that before too, since I have been looking for links to the Green Home, HGTVPro, and DIY, pretty much everyday.
I know…..it appeared pretty quickly though…,, Thanks HGTV! Now that we have your attention……are you ready to change things up a bit???? Folks are getting bored here…maybe boring!:)
HGTV, CHAD…….Thanks for listening……..as I mentioned on the GH blog, it would be nice if this new tab took us directly to the blog instead of the Main page!:)
CeeJoy amazing! Almost like having a pet Genie in a bottle.
You got inside friends! How about some more MAGIC?
I am protesting by making this my last blog until a new thread appears!! Who's with me??
Not me….I'm addicted!:)
I'm not sure I have enough courage to do that. I'll consider it though. We have until 2pm Pacific time before we can give up hope for the day.
When are we gona see the floor plans and when can we start entering. I can hardly wait.
Hello Springier, we are all just waiting and waiting, for the floor plans. The Sweepstakes for the Dream Home usually begins on January 1st every year.
Welcome to the Dream Home blog.
What happened to Cami's reply? It shows up on tthe side bar. but not here………….
What's up HGTV? Maybe you are listening to me!!!!LOL
Last Dream Home entrance was on Jan.1st. so there is a loooonnngggggg way to go
and we don't know when the floor plans will be reveiled.
Perhaps they are waiting to incorporate our ideas for a dream home … not wanting to disappoint us and leave anything out and so are needing to reorganize the floor plan a little… perhaps they need a few more ideas before the unveiling of the floor plans. I know that we all have ideas that we want to share re what we would like to see. Perhaps we should all restate what we would love in a dream home. The view and the activities involved… I love a butlers pantry and his and hers master bath … media room with Stressless furniture. The kohler Karbon faucet is great to go in an area where you can arrange flowers. An art area as well as a computer command post where you can have privacy but also be in command … of view and activities. A separate area for guests. Library office space… A sun room and/or tower to enjoy the tranquility and view. Perhaps a conservatory like area where there is container garden growing greenhouse off of the sun room area. With a spa in the sun room but with a wet bar. Miele appliances would be wonderful in the kitchen as well. And of course all the toys – that are a necessity for a resort area … golf ( electric cart), snowboards, skiis, kayak with peddles and sail, snowmobile…. and a generator is useful.
It is currently raining in Stowe… the weather shows sun for tomorrow but rain for the rest of the week. Enjoy your day … and your dreams …
no soda pop or ice cream fights in the dream home . . .
1hr. 15 min. until 5pm HGTV time. Let the countdown begin.. Mary are you there? Give us a sign. Something a little more noticeable than adding a Green Home link. Floor plans would be nice.
knowing Mary she'll probably give us a -Waiting Room- sign. Or maybe a message. "Please Hold" Then she'll turn on some elevator music. "Course then we'll all assume that what she is trying to tell us is that there will be an elevator in the Dream Home.
I think an elevator sounds like a great idea. … along with a dumbwaiter… if needed. and laundry shoots. Guest area to include more than one bedroom perhaps two bedrooms and a wet bar & sitting area.
How about a smart waiter with culinary skills as well? ; )
I hope the Butler's Pantry is a little larger in this home than it was in the previous dream home….I like lots of room to store all my goodies.
Maybe this home should come with a butler!
That is too funny!! Why not throw in a chef and leave the waiter dumb?
Well..Ok as long as he isn't clumsy. I can live with dumb. Ohhhh never mind, I want my meal in a timely manner.
make him cute like Jack with a smooth voice like his & single & you got a deal.
Did you mean a smooth "head"? LOL That was uncalled for and I couldn't help myself.
hair is not a big deal with me – he's cute that way – although this child of the sixties has dated some ponytailed fellas
Yes, he is a cutie……..my son had a ponytail and an earring at one time. Took me a while to get used to it (generation gap) but I did!!
My older son had long hair, no pony tail! The younger one, Robert's father was military all the way. He teaches now but still wears the crewcut. I sure understand that generation gap!!
:)
Sounds like my 2 boys. Although the older one's pony tail is gone. The youngest is no longer military (DV) but works for the Air Force doing the same thing he did when he was active. Space Command. Speaking of Robert…he's still in my prayers and so are you!!<3
since the DH is built into a mountain they could add a nice wine cellar or storage pantry. a dumbwaiter would be nice for retrieving the goods from below.
Here here!! Good one!
A "Cave Wine Storage Spot"!
I just don't want to see "don't make me turn this blog around" !!!! I still don't know what that was all about, but I'm 'thscared"!!! Lol lol It's like the calm before the storm!!!
:):)
think the turn the blog around was due to the meanies or whatever yawl called them – with intense debate no more meanies.
There are times when I find it most difficult to let a "funny" go by. Shouldn't that be "thtorm"? lol
Raggety, did you mean the NORM?
A "funny" is welcome in this 'empty floorplan place'.
Its alright?
Can we at least give her until 6pm HGTV time??? I'm willing to wait a little longer……just not until tomorrow. Mary, are you willing to work a little over time today???
You just never know she could have started work later, therefore may be working later.
Should we start appealing to Chad? He seems to listen to us.
Maybe MARY's just hit a rough patch. You know, when the creative process stalls out. I think it's often referred to as writer's blog. I run into that myself now and then.
However, I was just informed by an anonymous source that MARY did post a new thread on the DIY Blog Cabin on 15 July, so I expect that she's pedaling as fast as she can to get caught up here in the Dream Home blog. Tomorrow perhaps? As for me, I'm off to the movies to see Leo's new movie, Inception. Maybe I'll learn the secret to reading people's thoughts…. Wouldn't that be fun!
If you want to learn to read peoples thoughts, you have to become a caretaker of kids that don't speak. ; ) Then you will have no choice but to read minds.
You see… First comes autism, then their caretakers DNA changes to include ESP, and every generation after that just becomes more and more clairvoyant.
You think I'm kidding. I am very serious. Those scientist who research autism, probably haven't thought that far ahead yet.
Hey Coop, see if you can sell that idea to a producer and then share the profit with me.
Coop: What did you think of the movie? I've read (about the movie) that there is a way through dreams to actually influence peoples actions. Could we use this technique on Mary? Force her to reveal the Floor Plans? What did Leo do, and was he successful? Please, Coop, post your very first movie review on the blog.
laundry chute … ah spelling
Laundry shoot seems more appropriate to me Pj. Everytime I go into my laundry room I declare…. Shoot! Look at all this laundry.
Hey everyone, sorry I never really responded on the subject of the post cards. I admit I made that comment "tongue in cheek"…maybe it's my dry sense of humor or something. I'm really not starting my postcards yet, and if I do send some in, I plan to be conservative.
I guess there's always the rare chance they could change the rules, and there would be no mail-ins (is that legal?). Think how boring and bland drawing the winner would be……no bins over flowing with PC and no balloons……Jim, just sitting at his computer…..ho hum…..so if they allow postcards this time…I'm in…..I'll send a few to add to the excitement.
pj4joy, You think that HGTV doesn't want to disappoint us? Well its too late for that?
Mary, have we finally insulted you too much and you have quit? Is it taking so long for
your replacement? I personally feel disappointed and sad, and angry and a whole lot
more. If it will not be shown to us now, did you or we start on this too early? Tell us to
come back in a week if it will take that much time. That would be the kinder thing to do
for us. Frustration does not look good on any of us. Please someone in there tell us
anything. Be kind, compassionate. and reasonable. I'll come back tonight to see just
how caring any and all of you are!!!!!
Was I too hard on 'em?
NO!!
Ha ha ha ha ! SandyLA, did you mean "get your beep together'???
:):)
Can we have a new choice on the "quick vote"? I would like in the country by the sea. Ed, are you with me on this one?
kind of like the dream home 2004????
You would think that if Mary was on vacation she would let Chad or someone else take over. Going on three weeks. Maybe HGTV has a very generous vacation policy like the Europeans.
Maybe Mary is on a second honeymoon. :$
Maybe Mary is in Hawaii scouting out the location for the 2012 Dream Home. :p
Maybe Mary's in her office….reading the blog…………………… LAUGHING at us!!!
That is the only excuse I would be willing to accept at this point. ; )
Maybe Mary is as frustrated as we are……waiting for the go ahead to post a new thread……………….
maybe it was Chad who put the green home tab at the top of the page & she has forgot about us?
Pretty sure it was Chad listening in on my conversation with Cami this morning!
boomer: I think it is Jack that scouts out the location, but maybe he took Mary along (as I remember from the group picture, a cute brunette) to take notes. Believe me, as Cami will attest, you can get very lost in the magic of the islands. If that's the case we should all give Mary twenty lashes with her wilted leis for leaving us in need of FLOOR PLANS.
Jack and Mary in the islands? That would explain it!!
They might even have their families with….. having a
wonderful time before school starts! Having a ball and sipping
cold wondrous drinks and eatting the best yummy meals.
Jack's and Mary's kids getting all their attention while we all wait.
(MUST BE A TREAT BEING ON OF THEIR KIDS!)
Would be nice if they would contact us daily at noon or dinner time
by WEBCAM and let us in on some news.
Maybe some news confirming some of Cami's
ESP Construction site updates. Are you also scouting
sites in CANADA?
'cause ChadP is nice and all, but not much of a babysitter.
3 minutes and counting.
2 minutes and counting.
This is funny! http://thebubble.msn.com/#/video/?id=25ad20e1-c48…
that was funny – lucky people to get comic relief on the subway
Very inventive and cool.
People enjoyed those soldiers in uniform on the subway.
(Some kind of college pysch experiment?) LOL
At least no firearms!!
Okay, Mary is missing, can anyone find Waldo? She may be with him.
Hi Boomer, Mary's either missing or maybe they're making her help count those "ten times the amount of votes" necessary on the Blog Cabin VIP site.
Can anyone explain why we can vote TEN times each day for our choices of fun things to do if we win? For some reason this doesn't make sense to me. Why would they not want a simple ONE vote from each person visiting the site each day? I;m sure there is a logical explanation—I just can't see it. ha
Twirling my thumbs.
And Boomers DOWN for the count!!!!!
Feels like it! Jeez, when is something going to happen. I keep checking on the Pro site and even they don't have any new pics. I wish someone in Stowe would post a new picture. We need something.=/
Did the HGTV Dream Home site get washed away alot in July??
Is that why no newer time-lapse photos have surfaced??
Don't forget the lightning rods guys!
Seeing they don't want us to see the floorplans……….
they must not want us to see the wall construction at the site either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We would know to much to keep us excited then.
Some would NOT see their special desired room and be disappointed! !
IS THAT IT JACK ? But we could cope ol'buddy!!
The extra prize money could pay for some remodel fees.
Wow, this is a really friendly group. Thanks for all your replies to my blog. I'm really new to all this stuff. I'm still trying to understand and learn what I can do. But it sure is fun. Looking forward to developing some on line friendships.
Welcome aboard, Springier. I'm quite new here myself. These are some of the friendliest, kind, intelligent, supportive, fun people I have ever met. You WILL enjoy being here.
:):) JWmson
Glad you're here Springier. What is your pic? It looks like a cat or a dog.
Hi Springier…..welcome……
Hi , Springer
There is a great group of people on this site. Welcome.
Well, Is it quitting time at HGTV?
Guess we are left to entertain ourselves again…….there's always a chance they'll do something wild and post a new blog at a weird time…..like 8 pm pacific…..I'm sure I'll be hanging around just to check it out.
Is it possible that they are waiting for our Super Fan Gail to finish filming the walk-thru of the framing? I'm not sure when she's done that in the past….after floor plans…or before? I'd have to take a look back….does anyone remember?
Maybe it's Gail holding things up!
ARE YOU SERIOUS ? The same old blog ! What a disappointment to say the very least !
worked an 8 hour day – watched the grankids for a couple of hours – & the same blog . . .
CplusE did help find some new pictures today. Scroll down for the info.
maybe instead of people getting 100 blog entries they want someone to get to 200 – top bloggers get going – I'll never make it
All we can do is dream of Tuesday.
On Tuesday lyrics
On tuesday, you came in from the storm. On tuesday, you came and made me warm,On tuesday. On tuesday, you made me fly, much higher than beforeOn tuesday, you made me cry, and made me smile for moreCause, love is something I adoreOn tuesday. On tuesday, you saved my life, I was nothing but a wallOn tuesday you made me high, I was flying on the floorCause, love is something I adoreOn tuesday. It was only make believe, then along came tuesdayChanged everything, on tuesdayOn tuesday, you wave goodby, you step into the stormOn tuesday, you save my life, a smile will keep me warmOn tuesday, you made me cry, like a child being bornOn tuesday, you made me high, I'll be flying ever moreCause, love is something I adoreon tuesdayIt was only make believe. Then along came tuesdayChanged everythingOn Tuesday…..
think she will do something in the middle of the night when all are tucked in our beds – like when Santa comes with gifts for the good little boys & girls.
They do like that sort of thing!
ok. It's Tuesday morning and Santa Mary didn't come. Pooh!
fun: What are the lyrics like for Wednesday? Hope it's here, it's here the plans are finally here!
It's getting to be that time again…time to say goodnight, so – goodnight.
My parting thought…
Life is what you make of it..
GN!….where have you been all day? Maybe tomorrow will bring us something new.
Hi, I truly am here. I try to post at least once a day. Yesterday, it was in the morning. Even though I'm not posting throughout the day, I've still got my nose pressed against the glass, watching…lol
We Just finished up our vacation on Saturday, so I've been playing catch-up with being the maid, general contractor, mom, lifeguard, etc…(labors of love).
I should be back in the groove, soon….hopefully.
Maybe by then we will have some more construction topics…(just putting it out there for the Universe to hear
All the begging, pleading, promising, whining, threatening and cajoling seems to have had a negative effect on creating any acknowledgements from our best friends in the whole wide world (like Mary, Jack, Linda, Gail, and that little gecko, Jamie). Perhaps it's time to put our shoots and forks in a row and come up with a new plan. I love you all!!
raggedy: Yes, send out the LOVE. Love conquers all. Dream Team, feel our love. You can't resist it. We love you! Now give us our beloved floor plans.
In reviewing Marys' post above, she stated "things are moving fast at the HGTV Dream Home construction site". Then my question to her is……why is this site moving SO SLOW??
good question
I'm starting to feel left out of the building process……next thing you know, they'll show us a finished product before we even get to review the floor plans!
More lots are to be created as building sites in Stowe with the recent approval of project #4229 by the Development Review Board on 1 June 2010. The street name location has been designated as 211 Liftline Drive, where a 3.2 acres parcel will be subdivided into four lots. Lots will range from 1.22 acres, .82 acres, .37 acres, with .9 acres of common land.
Just in case you don't win the Stowe Dream Home, you may want to speak to the folks at Spruce Peak Realty now to find out what kind of bargain you can negotiate with them for one of these prime lots. Good luck, and keep us advised if you come to an agreement on a sale price. Hopefully the 1.22 acres site will still be available for your potential dream home.
When the Blog Slows Down, Could Hibernation be the Answer?
Here's some fun reading (well, I thought so anyway) from a web article by Nicholas K. Geranios The Associated Press – Published: July 18, 2010 (with a few of my own comments)
Who would have guessed that bears have all the luck. Read on—Grizzly bears love pastries, can be 50 percent body fat and spend nearly half the year sleeping. (Sound all too familiar?)
Yet the hibernating bears don’t suffer heart attacks, have no hardening of the arteries, no fatty deposits or any circulation issues, said Charles Robbins, director of the Washington State University bear research center. Robbins, who founded the center in 1986, and other WSU scientists are seeking to learn how bear hearts stay so healthy, and whether the answers can be applied to humans.
“The changes in the heart that occur in hibernation are things you and I couldn’t survive,” said Lynne Nelson, a veterinary cardiologist who has spent seven years studying the bears. “Yet bear hearts are very healthy.”
Scientists have found that grizzly hearts drop from more than 80 beats per minute when bears are awake to less than 20 beats, and sometimes into single digits, when bears are hibernating. Nelson said echocardiograms show blood starting to pool in the heart, but the bears do not suffer clots.
So far, Nelson and Robbins have only theories to explain how the bears, which share 95 percent of human DNA, maintain healthy hearts. They have published papers saying that protein changes make bear hearts stiffer during hibernation, allowing them to maintain their shape and perhaps avoid the formation of clots. Bears also shut down two of the four heart chambers without suffering damage. The scientists are also studying beta receptors and beta blockers in bears, which control heart rate.
Washington State’s Bear Center is the only university facility in the nation that has adult grizzly bears, Nelson said. Grizzlies are listed as a threatened species, although numbers have rebounded since the 1970s.
On a recent hot day, an 8-year-old adult named John frolicked in a steel tub of water, climbing in and out and shaking the water out of his thick fur. Another named Frank stood on his hind legs, towering over his handlers, while Nelson fed him slices of apple through the fence. The bears eat a mixture similar to dog food, plus salmon and road-killed deer, apples and day-old cakes and pies donated by Safeway, Robbins said. “We ring a cowbell and they know there is cake and pie for them,” Robbins said. “Sugar and grease, who doesn’t love that?” (Can't argue with that statement.)
The bears give blood samples, have their blood pressure measured, are given ultrasounds and echocardiograms. Some of the bears are trained to stick a limb out of the cage to be tested, even as they hibernate, she said.
Scientists are looking at other aspects of bear hibernation. Seth Donahue, a researcher at Michigan Tech, has written that black bears do not develop osteoporosis during long periods of hibernation because their cells continue to produce new bone-making material as they sleep. That could eventually be helpful in battling osteoporosis in humans.
Bears also manage to maintain muscle strength and mass, even though humans would lose some 70 percent of muscle strength in similar inactivity. One reason is that bears appear to exercise while they sleep by performing whole body, isometric contractions that start at the neck and move down several times a day. (Wow, exercising while you sleep!)
Now, if I could only duplicate all of these amazing physiological feats, I could eat all of the pie, cake, ice cream and assorted pastries I wanted, sleep as long as I felt like, not worry about the gym membership, and pass my physicals with flying colors. What a life! I now have a whole new appreciation for bears. I never thought we'd have so much to learn from them….
Wow, Coop, That was an interesting report! Thank you.
:)
Wow, eat all you want, sleep all you want, exercise in your sleep, no cardiovascular problems, no osteoporosis — and big and scary enough to make everyone else respect you! Who wouldn't want to be a bear? Plus you get to feast on all the salmon, honey, and blueberries you want — who is going to stop you? LOL!
I can see why you don't like bears Coop. I am jealous too! ^_^
During hibernation those female bears even give birth AND nurse those baby bear cubs!
"drop from more than 80 beats per minute when bears are awake to less than 20 beats, and sometimes into single digits, when bears are hibernating. "
AMAZING! And there are no retarded bears????
Earth could train them to do space exploration!?
Fascinating article. Sleep exercise—–now there's a novel thought.
So "lifes a bear" is a positive statement now. ??
Coop: Fascinating subject. I think the problem might be associating hibernation with sleep. Two different things. Humans sleep. Bears hibernate. I'm going to do more research on this as soon as I catch up from my mini vacation.
You had us going awhile with your "fear" of bears. But you are such a softy at heart. Cuddles and sweet dreams. No calories allowed.
11:00pm Disappointing Very Disappointing. Hang your head and ask for forgiveness.
i am starting to wonder if we've done something wrong! lol i thought the idea was to keep the fans attention….are we not worthy!

Well, lol. If they put anything new on the blog I won't know until this evening as I am about to go to work. I hope we all get something good from Mary today.
Hope is alive!xD
I just love this program i watch it every day gives me ideas too.I love decoreting also ive been doing lot dcorating myself
Raggedyanny is right. The HONEY must be taken out again ( I was afraid that it would have
come out during the ice cream fight and been very very sticky) and used til the jar is finished.
Wonderful HGTV, Beautiful Mary, Glorous Gail please come on out. We really want to play
with you. You need hugs and cheek kisses as well.. We would love to give it to you (he he)
Even if you just come out and say Hi, we would be deliriously happy if you just commented
on the weather or said hello. When Chad P. said a few words it was so very exciting – really
so you should be able to do that too. Let us know that you are hearing us. If for any reason
"they" are not ready for plans, don't mention them, just say something. We are sorry about
the food fight, but frustrations have to go somewhere. We are tired and extremely ready
for another thread. We love you all because you give us the opportunity to have fun. Waiting………
Oh, sorry GOOD MORNING!!!!!
Hello Helloo Hellooo
——————————-do I hear an echo? Hhhhheeeeeellllllllloooooo
If your little ones want to take a break this is cute! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIFNEddeZI4&fe…
Alicesoneysmom, That was so cute. Khazzie and Simi both sat there staring in disbelief. I'll bet that kitty had a tummy-ache. Thanks for sharing LOL
Great skiing & snowboarding video at Spruce Peak, Stowe, Vermont!

If you click onto LIFTS, you can find the gondola rides.
Which red lift ride are we seeing in the time-lapse HGTV.com Pro
photos before the new garage blocked that view??
PHOTOS take a long time to upload…. please wait http://www.hgtvpro.com/hpro/photo_template/articl…
Great view between those two stone and wood cabins!!
http://www.sprucepeak.com/ownership_opportunities…
Good morning everyone. I see no blog magic took place while we slept. Is it possible they are just waiting for all the Westies to be up and about?
Check you later…….
Westies should be up and about. Sadly, nothing new.
Some of us are slower than others!
You could be right CeeJoy, but which day?
7/ 23 ?
I only threw in that date because 7 and 23 are both Prime #'s.
We could all go on vacation and out to eat more while we wait! Like DBCoop did the other day. LOL
I think today is the day that the duct tape will be removed from Mary's lips.
We are so sorry you had to go through that Mary, that must have been sheer torture.
We have all felt your pain Mary.
Much like labor pain…………….
I think it would be cool if the Dream Home team did something like what the Blog Cabin has done this year.
Take a fixer-upper and rehab it.
Imagine a historic farmhouse on acreage or
Imagine an abandoned lighthouse or
Imagine an urban brownstone
Updated, Redecorated, Green
Now that's a dream.
What would you want the DREAM TEAM to redo?
VERY INTERESTING!
How about a huge challenge……………….. a LIGHT HOUSE!
We really need some light on the subject!
"Go Green O' Lovely Lighthouse!!"
A light house would be so cool. I wonder if they are ever for sale at affordable prices.
I guess the coast guard is selling some of their lighthouses. Maybe one could be purchased cheaper than I imagined.
http://www.fox11online.com/dpp/news/sturgeon-bay-…
What about an estate……mature landscaping, orchards, ponds, outbuildings, sheds, pasture, fenced, cross fenced…..just needs a "new do" on the house? I would love that….the feeling of permanency, with the convenience of new.
That works for me.
Sounds perfect for me. Orchards for organic fruit, ponds for healthy fish. What are our chances?
Well, if they build it……we'll all try to win it!!!
Seeing they don't want us to see the floorplans……….
they must not want us to see the wall construction at the site either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Might need lightning rods.
There are new pictures everyone, but they are under a different HGTVPro site — check them out:
http://www.hgtvpro.com/hpro/photo_template/articl…
It's called "Building a Foundation" and you can see the building site from a different angle!
That really gives you a good view of the building that they took down………..
Thank you. I really enjoyed seeing those pictures. Did you click on I think it was No. 4 and it takes you to Linda doing some shopping and things that are going to be repurposed for the new dream home. Not so sure about some of them. Will wait for a final judgment.
it was #5 – under the photo – best photos I have seen of the making of the dream home was #1 in that set of photos – too bad there were only 8. love the idea of the grate built in at the back door.
Nice work CplusE Thanks for sharing.
So I'm assuming, according to HGTV, we're the ones who are suppose to search and seek out any future information on our own? Somehow I thought they would be the ones to drop a line here and there to tell us new pics were looming around. Silly me.
Lazy aren't we???:)
Thanks C&E. I love the new perspective it gives us.
thanks for this view – I would have never found it…
Thanks for finding these pictures, CplusE. They give a much needed perspective. Mary could have started a new blog with these pictures.
CplusE: Thanks so much for posting the new picture site. Gave me much needed perspective to try to figure out the floor plans, since they seem to be buried somewhere in the cement. Love the banded trees to be saved and the boulders to be reused. We will have toasty toes an incredible view and maybe even an elevator.
My daughter just told me that she got to be the first poster on Taylor Swifts website, and she is so excited, 'cause Taylor Swift is doing a live chat at 2 pm to answer questions from the bloggers.
I told her I like to be the first poster on a new blog too…I said.."Oh let me check now, and see if I can be first on my favorite site too. : ( Mary, where are you? Taylor Swift does live chats, and what do we get? Dead and buried blogs. : (
Now that there are some new pictures there is plenty to talk about — I just wish we had a new thread to do it on!
Did you find anything besides the foundation though? I'm looking for a little more meat! Walls, Roof lines, siding!!!
Picture 3 in "Building Challenges" shows wall framing for the basement side of the house that we haven't seen before — interesting cut-ins that I haven't quite figured out yet!
Interesting layout for sure. I wouldn't want to tackle a shape like that. It makes for an interesting…What was that architectural term Coop used again?
So far anyway.
Ahhhhh Coop what was that architectural term you used. Was it elevation?
showed siding in the photos of bark from felled trees – http://www.hgtvpro.com/hpro/photo_template/articl… go to photo # 5 & click on the link under the picture & there are 8 great photos thanks to CplusE.
joplays and CplusE: Thanks again. Now we know there is a family room, a guest room, a master bedroom, a back door and stone walk way. No surprise there. But a ski dorm? Could this be the in the trees? We see that Linda is in her recycle mode. Why take an old tub with claw feet, remove the feet and enclose it with …. bark? No matter how rustic the decor, it's going to be one amazing home.
missed the stone walkway part – guess i have to go back. thought she said they were gonna take off the claw feet & do what you said – place it in some of the reclaimed wood. the more rustic the better. love rustic – not too much on frilly except a bit in the bedroom as long as it is not totally prissy. my sister was prissy – had enough of that growing up – still the tomboy a bit. love browns – hunter greens – magenta tones (for you guys out there it's a reddish shade – lol) & all the credit for finding the stuff goes to CplusE.
How fun for your daughter. Hope you share her thoughts with us afterwards.
Was your daughter able to participate in the live chat? How fun!
Taylor Swift is so talented. I am so glad she got to be the first poster. Maybe you will get to be the first poster on our next thread, if we ever get one.
There is another new HGTVPro site called "Building Challenges" that describes the unique problems addressed in building on the DH 2011 site:
http://www.hgtvpro.com/hpro/photo_template/articl…
That was real interesting, too. HGTV is missing a great opportunity to get these pictures out via the blog and pacify the boredom here. I did notice there was a picture of the so desperately awaited and begged for plans in this group. lol

This should take you to sustainable building materials-Dream Home 2011
I love repurposed building materials. I say if they have lasted this long, It must be a good quality, sturdy product.
Now we know the house will have a "ski dorm", whatever that is! I'm guessing its like a bunkhouse for lots of guests — I wonder if it is in the basement. We really need floor plans, Mary!
We also know there will be a complex radiant heating system.
Ok what else do we know?
One of my personal favorites and something that I asked for is… Recycled barn wood.
The architect mentions that the style of the house will have its roots in Adirondack lodge style.
That to me says Rustic Charm. I love it.
We also now know for sure that the back of the house faces the downhill side and the front faces the uphill side (where the garage is).
I love the boulders they excavated at the site they look awesome.
"Boulders, uncovered as the foundation hole was excavated, are set aside and used to build retaining walls that will reinforce the foundation and blend the home seamlessly into the sloping site"
I love those boulders too! If you look at picture 8 of "Building a Foundation" the pile of boulders is to the left of a rather decrepit little shed or building — I wonder what it is/was used for?
ditto on the rocks – love rocks
Great find. Thanks for passing this along.
I love the way they are repurposing old materials. I think the barn door would have been cool as a door to a media room or library. Remember the hidden media room? I think it was in Texas.
