The Architect’s Inspiration

Hi, fans.

I know you’ve been dying to get your hands on the 2011 floor plans. That’s not going to happen this week, but what I can share is info directly from this year’s architect, Paul Robert Rousselle. During a recent chat I asked Paul about his design inspiration, and what unfolded was the most heartfelt story. Being a history buff, I have to admit that I myself had goose bumps as Paul shared the experience of sifting through old photos of Adirondack Great Camps, circa 1890s to 1920s, before sketching out ideas for house planner Jack Thomasson.

Take some time today to click through HGTVPro.com’s slideshow on Paul’s design process, then pop back here to share your thoughts.

  1. Hi everybloggie,
A quick Blog Fix before lunch :O) These are wonderfully versatile and flexible floorplans, and I'm looking forward to Linda working her creative magic!! I'd lov e to see a V-Log of Jack and Linda, discussing how she gets her first inspiration when seeing the site and plans. How does she know what to " run with" and what to leave " on the cutting room floor" ? How many hours does it take from first inspiration to finished design ?

    • So true CeeJoy! All those teens will be done skiing and snowboarding and returning to the Dream Home for a shower and a meal ……and then heading back on down to the music and dancing at Stowe ……… before going to bed.
Dorm bunk room can handle 12 – 16 people? That's alot of showers!
Alot of towels. Alot of laundry!

  6. You sound like so many of us who started out as a city kid, and then went country. I remember hanging my particular participles on a clothing line. Country is oh so wonderful. By the way love, how is Robert? We have all been thinking and praying for him every day.

    • Good Morning,Janzee. I check in at the site often to read, but haven't that much time lately. Thank you for asking about Robert. He is still mute. (I don't like that word, but that's how it is right now) Still feeding tube, can't funtion on his own at all. Tears in his eyes, but can't tell what's wrong.Running tests constantly. Heartbreaking, but we must wait and keep our trust in God. HIS timing, not ours. Thank you again.

    • Me too. But split infinitives are so much more fun! I always wanted to date a pair of them in my younger days! ^_^

  8. I have been to Stowe several times and it is so beautiful there. The village is a great place to walk through. I mean how can you go wrong mountains, great skiing, Cabot creamery and Ben & Jerry's just around the corner.

  10. OMG, this man is a genius!!! I love the treehouse design, the entire aspect of being not only in the woods, but also a part of the woods. I would love to see my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all enjoying each other and the time spent together in this house. We will make it a home. I cant wait to see the finished product!

  11. I am happy to see you've chosen this style. I loved the Lake Lure, North Carolina house from 2006, and have been hoping to see something like that again. I will be watching this construction throughout for ideas I can apply to my own home.
Linda and your team never fails to deliver!!

  16. Dear JWmson, your connection to God, Robert and your family at this time is more powerful than any suffering. The greatest physician is God, and I am convinced that he has his own timing. I think about you and your family alot, with prayers for healing, and I I know that what you are enduring is a testimony to your strength and belief. I am having trouble getting back to posts the last few days, and dealing with water damage. I want to catch up with everyone this week. Love Janice

Janzee on August 10, 2010 at 1:56 pm
    • I couldn't get back to your post to me either Gracie. I am glad your spirits are still up. Like they say if at first you don't succeed try try again. I am sure your writing talents will be recognized. I agree the weather in the coastal areas of Southern California are primo. Every time I have been to Vegas I was a little toasty! I hope you get all of your water damage problems straightened out.

  17. We are all still praying for Robert. I lost a son to a glioblastoma in the brain, so i know first hand what you and yours are going through! We need a praying emoticon on this site.

  18. Hi web gods, this is Janzee trying to phone home. I can not reach any posts by way of the comment line. I hope that this problem is cricket after awhile, as I would like to reach my favorite peeps. Love Janzee

  19. That was knowledgable about how Rousselle got his design inspiration, and some history on Eagle Island in Upstate NY.
This Dream Home is like a ski lodge style and I've been in some beautiful ski lodges. I wonder if the floor plan will be fairly open. In any case I think the interior will reflect the exterior.
