What’s Your Dream Home IQ?

If you haven’t checked out HGTVPro’s Building of HGTV Dream Home 2011 package, please do so. There, you’ll find tons of information, great photos and exclusive videos. Also, just for fun, we threw in a personality quiz. See how much you know about the construction of past HGTV Dream Homes. Then, return here to report your results. I, of course, am a Dream Home Dynamo (but, then, you already knew that).

  1. Looks like "Mean Mary" finally got around to posting the quiz, we have been blogging about for the past few days. It forced me to take the quiz. I don't know how I did, but I am a building dynamo. Whatever that is?

EdinOregon on August 11, 2010 at 7:29 pm
    • Ed, I hope it;s not some kind of virus or bellyache, it all sound kind of mysterious and dangerous to me.:):):S

AnneEliseSouth on August 12, 2010 at 8:27 am
      • I am sure winning the dream home will cure my illness! ^_^

EdinOregon on August 12, 2010 at 11:53 am
        • You are sooo right about that! It'd either cure your ailments, or distract you enough that they wouldn't matter

AnneEliseSouth on August 12, 2010 at 1:27 pm
  2. I know this is the Dream home site – but ck out the blog cabin. now that's a basement!!~!!! Watch the video. It is huge. So those who like tools & woodworking – ta da. Ed, I took the quiz too & was also Dynamo – think they graded me on a curve. hahaha

joplays on August 11, 2010 at 8:03 pm
    • Glad you found the site okay Joplay. I have viewed that video a few times. The nice thing about that basement for me is the garage door. It makes it handy to bring in those large woodworking and welding projects.

EdinOregon on August 11, 2010 at 9:12 pm
      • thanks to you I went there – & I would like the garage door for a riding mower – I hate my push mower

joplays on August 11, 2010 at 9:19 pm
        • Don't forget you can start entering the blog cabin in 8 days on August 19. You should have seen the 2008 blog cabin! I do like the land on this years house.

EdinOregon on August 11, 2010 at 9:36 pm
          • i tried to sign up for the reminder but it kicked me out of the entire site & closed

joplays on August 11, 2010 at 9:45 pm
          • Do you have the feeling they don't want you to enter? ^_^

EdinOregon on August 12, 2010 at 1:05 am
          • <DIV>you got me curious & I looked at the entire 2008 Cabin – it was beautiful & BIG. would love that porch swing. hope they weathered the floods that Tenn had a while back. I love homes near water. love to swim. loved that porch & outdoor fireplace. it is a unique home.</DIV> <DIV style=”FONT-FAMILY: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; FONT-SIZE: 14pt”>

    • Thanks for reminding me to check out the cabin, joplays. Really looks good. Someone's going to love this home!

  3. Opps…did I scoop MARY on posting the link to the Dream Home IQ quiz the other day? Sorry, MARY, but it was so much fun I had to share it with other bloggers right away. Does that make me a double dynamo, or a dubious dynamo?

DBCoop on August 11, 2010 at 8:10 pm
    • isn't that what the DB stands for _DouBle

joplays on August 11, 2010 at 8:14 pm
      • Well, that's a thought, as long as it's not short for DouBle Trouble! Or du blé for that matter, from the French which means of/from wheat. I'm more of a Cheerio kind of guy.

DBCoop on August 11, 2010 at 8:38 pm
        • I like the original Cheerios – not those flavored ones – like to snack on them dry at work.

joplays on August 11, 2010 at 8:46 pm
          • Wow (Coop slaps himself on the forehead) I wonder if that's where my dry sense of humor comes from—all those Cheerios?

Well, probably not. More likely just faulty genetics. (That way I get to blame my parents.) ^_^

DBCoop on August 11, 2010 at 9:00 pm
          • along with the dry white wine (not Whine)

joplays on August 11, 2010 at 9:05 pm
          • Not with the Cheerios (wine, that is), but, yes, it's hard to resist a glass of fine, dry or semi-dry white wine with a light dinner. Or even a dry red for that matter.

Back to the Cheerios—I'll take mine with soy or rice milk, thank you, mixed with a bit of granola and fruit or berries to top it off for an extra kick of flavor and energy.

A hearty bowl keeps me charged all morning when I'm trying to follow MARY's devious Dream and Green Home location clues. At times like those, every ounce of energy is required to function at peak capacity, both intellectually and physically. Only the strongest can survive MARY's HGTV location clue challenges.

DBCoop on August 11, 2010 at 9:52 pm
          • I do love most of those many many Cheerios flavors! Quite tastey!
Those different flavors of chocolate ones are my recent fave!
(But I must get in my yummy Nutty Raisin Bran once in awhile…. just because.)

Maybe the cupboards will have Cheerios in them for the Dream Home winner!

RJMstone on August 12, 2010 at 1:05 am
    • I'm definitely not a devious dynamo, as my motives for posting the Dream Home IQ link were as pure as winter's first driven snow.

By the way, MARY, while we're on the subject, are HGTV employees allowed to take the Dream Home IQ quiz? Isn't that like posting clues to the Dream Home location and then answering them yourself?!
I mean, you have access to ALL of the inside info about the DH's past and present! Nonetheless, we'll allow that you are indeed a Dream Home Dynamo….

DBCoop on August 11, 2010 at 8:30 pm
  4. do you think the others know of the new blog line – or just the 3 of us?

joplays on August 11, 2010 at 9:06 pm
    • Hi joplays, Some of us know.

I too ended up as a Dream Home Dynamo—-not sure what that means—-other than I've concluded I've probably spent way too much time on this web site this last few months. ha LOL

MeKhazSimi on August 11, 2010 at 10:07 pm
      • hope they said dynamo not dynamite
also was hoping Coop would tell ya – yawl follow him

joplays on August 11, 2010 at 10:37 pm
  5. Where's out Reneelovesgreen? I bet she would ace this test. I hope she hasn't picked up a virus or something in Europe!

EdinOregon on August 11, 2010 at 9:26 pm
    • she has been back at least couple of weeks now. she posted it and wished everyone a great summer.

      Sandy23ca on August 14, 2010 at 3:45 pm
    • I am missing her so much. She lives in a unique high rise in Ft. Lauderdale and was looking to move, maybe the Oasis will be right up her adventurous, researching and fun loving alley. Eddie, by the way think of the math, the odds are greater, that one of us could win one of the four houses.

Janzee on August 15, 2010 at 2:21 am
      • The odds are better, but it is still a long shot. I don't think Renee would want to pack all three of them in that condo though.

EdinOregon on August 15, 2010 at 3:15 am
        • Like so many of us the possibility of holding down two residences could be a consideration. The Oasis DH is a little more doeable, than the DH or GH, at 1.5 Is it true that HGTV is going to pick up the taxes for the first few years, or is that my imagination?

Janzee on August 15, 2010 at 3:08 pm
          • I heard that HGTV will pick up the transfer taxes from one of the bloggers. I think the title transfer tax in NYV is one per cent or so. The regular property taxes are not in full effect for the first ten years on the condo and then OUCH!

EdinOregon on August 15, 2010 at 3:13 pm
          • I haven't said this before, but understanding the financial formula and the tax requirements is important. This next few months, just for fun, I am going to look at the schedule, and see how I could handle any one of these homes, as I am sure we all have. That being said, what you have in the Oasis NY home a prime plus prime prop. I am thinking you hold on to the property for about eight years, then sell it to go on to win the next DH. Dont worry because at this point the winner will be in the same tax bracket.

Janzee on August 15, 2010 at 3:44 pm
          • that would be perfect for you Janice. You could Jet Set between Hollywood and Broadway. I don't know about the real estate market in 8 years though. Property values are dropping fairly rapidly in NYC. Of course if hyper inflation sets in as many are predicting, you could be sitting on a gold mine!

EdinOregon on August 15, 2010 at 8:21 pm
          • I would have a hard time putting myself in the jet setting category, but Georgie you "send me to the moon", as Jackie would say. As for markets, this is such an interesting economic time, we don't have a cadence yet, about what is going to happen exactly, but people still have to live, and their life styles as I can see in Los Angeles is almost like business as usual. My NY friends are still buying property, and getting great deals. Looking at LA–till 2 in the morning, these folks are out, having business meetings and dinners and living large. The malls on the days I visited, are packed with young people buying jeans, make-up, new age furniture, everything you can imagine-no sales, just high market prices and they are paying the price. And if this has any reflection on housing or what's to come, I certainly hope that things get better in a few years.I think HGTV has probably created a new jump start, and can actually create a thread in the market. It's weavings on the blog has encouraged a few of us to move to NM. Statistically, that has to weigh in. I never would of thought of NY on my horizon until now, and suddenly a few people have asked what happened to my southern accent?

Janzee on August 16, 2010 at 1:00 am
          • Funny Janzee! I hope you don't have a Brooklyn Accent now! Actually I think Jackie used to tell Alice "One of these days Alice, One of these days Pow Zoom right to the moon!" I guess "interesting" is one way to describe market conditions now.

EdinOregon on August 16, 2010 at 1:34 am
          • "Interesting" is the back seat way of describing the market without punching in the ampersand and a few choice others. I dont have Brooklyn brogue but can imitate one, especially when I am with older relatives. They ask me to imitate the twenty five others or so that I love to do.

Janzee on August 16, 2010 at 2:26 am
          • LOL & & & & & & but basically scary with an unknown future!

EdinOregon on August 16, 2010 at 2:54 am
          • For every 40 million and growing, our Gracie and George comments included, what are the odds that a percentage of this audience will help to change a conundrum dum dum market? Lookathis- I haven't bought furniture in umpteen years. Okay, now, I have become an avid HGTVer. inherent in the salivating publicity, a new love for the home, interest in travel. I rented an apartment in LA, bought a furniture set for the Las Vegas property, and have begun to look for land. This may not have happened until the movers and shakers of a network that promotes all of the above offered a primrose path. What's next on the agenda-let's enter these contests like crazy!!!

Janzee on August 16, 2010 at 4:42 pm
          • Janzee, the home prices here went way down and have not come back at
all. It is a buyers market now not a sellers!!!. Responding on 8/17

SandyLA on August 17, 2010 at 3:00 pm
          • Hi tooste, Yes totally a buyers market, and that's what I am saying. But how do we climb out of this? What I have observed tn LA, is that people have money in their pockets and are waiting for the right investments. Friends in NY, are also buying property, because they want to move to NY, live there part time for business and need homes. They, are getting some good deals. In the middle of the onion sandwich are great companies like HGTV who are helping to morph and improve markets.

Janzee on August 17, 2010 at 3:44 pm
  6. I took the quiz last week and I was a dynamo something. I thought for sure I couldn't have gotten all the questions right. I wonder if there is more than one kind of dynamo score, if Mary is a dream home dynamo. Maybe I was just a building dynamo. I sure would like to know which ones I got wrong.

Cami on August 11, 2010 at 10:10 pm
    • Well Cami, I guess that makes you and Ed the dynamic dynamo duo! Try saying that fast three times!!

AnneEliseSouth on August 12, 2010 at 1:29 pm
    • Hi Cams, I am not like the wizard you all are. And later this evening I am going to have to read through all the blessed material to make sure my answers are correct. I used to do stuff like this in college, where I would have to tape the lectures and replay them. Friends asked why not just take notes. I was so concerned about missing the details. I think if I decided to go back to school, I would try to relax and enjoy the ride- it makes things easier.

Janzee on August 15, 2010 at 3:12 pm
  7. Poor mary posted this at 7 pm. Do you think they are making her work late, with all the blogs she has to keep up with now.

Cami on August 11, 2010 at 10:13 pm
    • is that her time or our time?

joplays on August 11, 2010 at 10:49 pm
      • Her time. Actually I'm not so sure. If Mary posted this at 7:18 pm ET, then Pacific time would have been 4:18 pm. The first post was by Ed but that was only 3 hours ago which would have been around 6pm his time- Pacific time. So I guess it was there but we didn't find it until around 9 ET.

  8. Hi everybloggie,

I aced the Dream home IQ test :O) And no nightmares of:
    a) missing the final, crucial classes to graduate
    b) failing the last exam
    c) Arriving at school naked
    d) All of the above
    Lol!!

GoldieLocksBear on August 11, 2010 at 10:17 pm
  9. I don't know if I should try the Quiz. Not sure if I know enough about all the other Dream Homes.
Probably get a poopy score! Might read up on some first.

EdinOregon on August 12, 2010 at 1:24 am
    • I have been missing you RJMstone, how are you cutie pie. Have you been over to the DHOasis yet? and have you entered the go Stowe contest for a chance to win a five night stay in Stowe? What have you been up to with your cute puppie face and amazing comments.

Janzee on August 15, 2010 at 2:03 am
  10. The first time I took the quiz I was a Building Dynamo too, so just out of curiosity I went back and deliberately chose all wrong/silly answers. The result — I am a Building Beginner! I might try going back and answering a few wrong and a few right to see what happens!

So, I went back and tried answering half right and half wrong. The result — the site went crazy and kept flashing on and off! Maybe there are only two categories and when you fall exactly in the middle it doesn't know what to do with you!

OK, time to do something productive — talk to you all later!

CplusE on August 12, 2010 at 6:02 am
    • You're hilarious, C&E! I'm fairly certain that you're the only one who took the quiz 3 times, just to test the results. You have a scientific mind, and I'll bet you could get some research funding for testing these variables!

      Wyo_Girl on August 12, 2010 at 9:23 am
    • I am just now getting around to taking the test and decided to make it fail safe, so I am checking all of my answers as I take the test. It's amazing how many things you can learn along the way.

Janzee on August 15, 2010 at 2:05 am
  11. Good luck to you with the DH/ GH/ Blog Cabin/ Urban Oasis/ DIY Sweeps/ Class of 2010/ 2011. LOL

MeKhazSimi on August 12, 2010 at 9:33 am
    • Hi Deerspring, I did. It's totally awesome. Jack T. has scored an A-plus with one. Can't think of a more perfect place for a posh pad than New York for the premier of the first Urban Oasis.

MeKhazSimi on August 12, 2010 at 5:44 pm
    • Could we all be in the same class together? I noticed we have a couple of adorable professors. I am a little nearsighted, so I think I better get a seat in the front row, gonna bring my tape recorder as well.

Janzee on August 15, 2010 at 2:08 am
  12. Good morning. New day. New beginning. The Pacific is still leading in the polls for the next DH. I'm happy. All is well. So here's an optimistic LOL

    • This is the first day I am looking at this thread and just noticed it was your birthday. Dear OmahaLady, I just know you had a fabulous birthday, and I picture quite colorful, as you have a way with decorating, color and surprises. I hope you were surrounded by lots of friends, family and business folk, with clinking glasses a superior toast to a wonderful girl and a huge, I'm telling you a huge cake. With all of the new threads I am just navigating where I am supposed to be.

OmahaLady on August 12, 2010 at 10:23 am
  15. All those years of watching HGTV & entering the DH sweepstakes weren't for naught! My quiz results showed me to be a Building Dynamo (I took my time and only had to do a little research, I swear!). :D
Now if only that also indicated the winner of the DH! Why don't they have awards/rewards for loyalty and the ability to absorb HGTV trivia like sponges???? Or how about something for witty blog banter???? Enquiring minds want to know…..

HerbalT on August 12, 2010 at 10:48 am
  16. While it seems that most of us are already HGTV Dream Home past and present building geniuses, when it comes to the newest posh pad in NYC, I bet we could all use some reading up and visual stimulation about the Urban Oasis. In order to do so, MARY has kindly provided us with some great links, compliments of the latest addition to HGTV blog-land: http://blog.hgtv.com/urban-oasis/

Come join the party. It's open 24/7!

    • Ed, that's my favorite blog cabin too.

Lessie on August 16, 2010 at 8:27 pm

PS I have had company and had some medical tests, my heart is good!! Just need to get in shape and things will be great. Still getting the new house in order but, my daughter was just here from Tennessee and she helped so much. Looking good and feeling so homey and peaceful. Thanks for all you good thoughts and comments. Love you guys!!

  20. Dear Khaz, how far along would you say the Stowe house is at this point. Tonight, Sat. 14th, was the first time in a month that I looked at the HGTVpro pics, and have not seen any progress except for close ups of the lodge since I left a month ago. Has there been any talk about what they are going to do with the existing lodge on the premises or is that lot next door?

Janzee on August 15, 2010 at 2:16 am
    • The house that was on that lot was torn down Janice. Since the last picture on HGTV Pro was #74 and dated June 30, I am sure the exterior and roof are at least completely finished. I am not too sure about the interior work.

EdinOregon on August 15, 2010 at 2:23 am
  21. Happy Birthday to the twins- what a fantastic age. I think we are the best we can be "right" now, and everything else is putting a cherry on top. I feel that we will all meet one of these days, and there will be alot of hugging and cheering going on.

  23. Hi all, I've been out of the loop, because I went to Ireland from Aug. 2nd to Aug. 11. I'd been checking often in July but just getting on in Aug, "I've missed a lot of action." I took the quiz and it was fun and it was cute by commenting on your quiz rating. Mary it said I was a Building Dynamo, like the back of hand. It was like going down memory lane to think of different ones over the years; they were all so beautiful.
