The View from the Master Bedroom
Here’s a thought-provoking detail to cap off your week quite nicely.
During a recent conversation with HGTV Dream Home 2011 architect Paul Robert Rousselle, he waxed philosophical about his design for the master suite. And with good reason. Imagine strolling toward this portion of the home, and, through a series of subtle turns, discovering an open, breathtaking space. “In plan, I have taken and rotated this quadrant, this master bedroom block, roughly 16 degrees – in part to increase the unique experience of going to a special place and also to create an air of mystery and excitement that we are no longer part of the house that we left,” he says.
The bedroom area, a cathedral space, will boast spectacular views of the ski trails via an 11 x 9-foot expanse of window. Twenty feet away from and placed on axis with the bed will be the master bathroom. Behind the tub will stand a 5 x 12-foot column of glass, through which one can view the mountain’s “chin,” a peak illuminated as the sun rises over the mountain. “So if you can imagine December, a snow-capped mountain and at 7:30 the sun hits that chin,” says Paul. “There is going to be this pink glowing land form that you will experience as you lay in bed. It will be just breathtaking.”

I wonder if Wyo_Girl got to do the guided hike at Spruce Peak!
Hope she got there. Would like her to let us know what she has seen.
Fall Foliage Picture Contest http://www.stowetoday.com/things_to_do/spotlight/…
GREAT!! They even have 1st., 2nd., and 3rd. prizes!
Wonder what kind of pictres Wyo_Girl got.
Thanks for all the information links. http://www.topnotchresort.com/stowe-vermont.php
So much going on. Would love to walk thru the Stowe area.
Leaf Peepers: Corn maze Oct. 8 and 9
What’s more fun in the fall than a corn maze? They are a-maize-ing and corn-fusing, and most of all, a great way to spend a crisp day during foliage season.
Locals know there is great fun to be had at the Percy Farm corn maze, just off the Stowe rec path.
http://www.stowetoday.com/things_to_do/day_trips/…
A back-road tour
The Stowe area has many scenic foliage drives available.
Choosing your own route is easy, thanks to maps such as the Vermont Gazette, available at local gas stations. But sometimes the back roads can be tricky.
Here’s a local loop that you’ll love http://www.stowetoday.com/things_to_do/day_trips/…
Mary, how about a snowfalling Cam? As in camcorder. Keep us up to date on inches fallen, or maybe we could find that info on Spruce Peaks website.. I'll bet we can.
But we still wanna watch the snow fall outside of the Dream Home, as if sitting on a comfy couch by the fire, holding a cup of cocoa.
I would even get on my husbands computer that's attached to the big TV, then scoot really close and sit and sip hot cocoa just to pretend I'm there. Be sure and aim it at a bird feeder. Awe my dream is almost complete.
The builders didn't forget to make bird feeders did they?
Yes, a SNOW cam, a bird feeder cam, and window cams too. Would love to view ALL while warming up the kitchen with warm breakfast smells.
Even a window view partially blocked by melting drippy icicles would be a great channel for sleepy grandkids to watch at bedtime. (could put that dimmly lit "put you to sleep" channel on a 30 minute sleeper mode.. lol)
Well, really, are there words, just one "Amazing" !!!
Perfect! Thanks for the view.
I have been feeling Myra alot lately. My instincts tell me that she is going to be fabulously fine, and our DH of yesteryear, will go up for sale, and someone will snatch her up in that beautiful Sandia Mountains. Good Luck to you Myra, Chris, and all of your future projects, and may this year be healthy, happy, joyous, celebratory, and find your trail of blue turquoise dreams.
Even tho Myra sells, she has had many memories in that place. Would be a lovely place to throw a wedding. Not many neighbors to disturb.
Stone-that's a genius idea. I have a couple of nieces that are going to marry next year, and we are still thinking of venues. Palm Springs is one of them.
Good morning, Busy day today—guess that's why I've been awake since three-something. So, I've sat here sipping coffee and checking out the spec sheets for the DH.
The mud room is floor to ceiling , wall to wall cabinets—I'm guessing it will serve as kitchen pantry also—as I didn't see anything that looked to be one in the kitchen.
Kitchen is nice—not quite sure what the light fixture thing is hanging over the bar area
Dorm bath cabinets are great—like the bank of shelves for towels on either side (it will definitely take space for umteen towels for that many ski dorm people)
Master bath cabinets seem small (26" each) the basins take up most of that space—but maybe it's larger than I think.
I hope Gail's tour is soon. So many incredible windows—-and I'm sure the fireplace will be awesome as well—–it is a gas fireplace right?
I hope everyone has a beautiful fall day. LOL
Yes…. hope Gail gives us a tour soon!! Is she on vacation to?
MeKhazSimi, you and yours have a beautiful Fall day/evening too !!
Would love a peek at that fireplace!
I will always remember that night. So unusual to find yourself in a secret whitetail deer world under the low fog. The deer were so thick in the ditches that I felt like an invader into their private world. Happy we went to TRY to see the meteors that evening.
YOU uncovered a mythological world Stone. Every time I go back to the magic of this story, I think you should retell it with your kids, and put it to pen. The fairies, allowed you to go into their secret kingdom for a few moments. In areas of natural wonder like Stowe, you would see alot of these events I think.
Did the Dream Home in Stowe get snow yet Jack T?
I see yesterday (10/5) Arizona got hail/snow, California got snow, and Tennessee got snow!
Yep, like Cami said….. we need a Stowe, Vermont "snow cam"! Those time-lapse pictures are not enough ….. not current.
A article/video said the furniture arrives on October 16th!
WOW, thats only 10 days away! They must have all the outside and inside messy work all done then.
"" "" ""COMING SOON ——- Funiture!! "" "" ""
BUT I say, give them all the time they want!! Linda wants to do it right!
Hope she posts pictures of everything.
I would have liked to have seen the sights at this interesting festival…. The Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin' Festival , Sunday, October 2nd, 2011, 11am to dark, The Boyden Family Farm, Cambridge, VT
This Pumpkin Chuckin' Contest with those flinging TREBUCHET contraptions. Looks like they had a ball Saturday!
Gotta check out this fun video. http://vtpumpkinchuckin.blogspot.com/2010/10/verm…
Dear Stone, I'm going to your offering today to see the video. But for now, I wonder what in the world would a pumpkin be chucked at, I certainly hope it would be into a huge kettle set over an open fire, ready to make a pumpkin stew, or the fixings for a whopping and I mean whopping pumpkin pie. P.S. without knowing with you posted today, I lit a soy pumpkin candle right next to me to I could see smell the aroma, and low and behold there you are posting about punkins.
I love pumpkin pie! The bigger the better!
Sometimes I put a fine layer of ground up pecans w/little bit butter on the crust before I pour in the pie muxture. (Then bake.)
Daughter was shopping at one of those big malls the other day and came home with a small candle for me! I couldn't believe my nose….. its "Maple Pancakes"! Love it too.
Stone, I just checked out the video. It's super duper, and pumpkin flingin fun. I love the intelligence and earthiness of this group. Imagine kids getting excited about coming out to this festival, and all the simple and hard car phsysics that went into the rocket, and simple contraptions. Applause praise, and highest marks for this wholesome experience. P.S. Where is Coop insurance, was that on the rocket?
(Did you see the video commercial for "Coop Insurance" on there?)
Dear Stoney, welcome to the pie eating brigade. Seems like you, Coopy, Eddy in Oregon, Lessie, Cams, and Janz, that's me, love those pies. My mouth is watering over what you did with the crust, and you must be some wonderful cook. WOW. Tomorrow I gotta get that no gluten sprouted recipe to you. I am going to look up a good one in my raw food book. I have tried it a couple of times, and it's terrific, but I want to give you the right ingredients. I think you would appreciate it, now that I know you better. You would also be a perfect winner for the DH, GH, or Blog DH this year. Good neighbors like you are like gold and diamonds.
Ditto, RJ. Have you heard anything about the winner of the goStowenow.com contest to win five days in Stowe. I hope that whoever entered it was one of us kids.
Do we have any kids on this blog Gracie???? ^_^
No haven't heard a peep! If they let family go with the winner….. and one of us wins….. maybe we could say we were all relatives. HaHa LOL
In the old days my brother took me to a middle school dance as soon, and as I walked up to the door the ticket taker who was a friend of my brother told me to come in for free since I was a relative. Suddenly, I had six brothers and sisters I didn't even know that I had, and they were holding on to my sweater looking very much like a Conga line. Stoney, I didn't do much today, I'm sorry, I was going to give you a recipe. I will ring you up tomorrow, and give it to you. I saw something at Krogers tonight, that looked kind of interesting, it was a pumpkin cheese cake. There has got to be a light fluffy way, to do it, without so much suga and an alternate for cheese, and I am thinking maybe my raw food cheese cake using sprouted nuts as the base and pure vanilla beans, and then fluff up your punkin mix that has already been boiled and spiced and put it over the prefrozen raw food pie plate mix, then freeze it rather than bake. Your shredded pecans and maybe coconut over the top, would be an alternate crust.
Well, Wyo Girl is there in Stowe. Is it possible there's any connection to the goStowenow.com contest? Is so, I'm sure she would have shared the news with us.
Hi Coopy. Only the very slightest thought ran through my mind. I think that if Wyo won we'll hear a yippiiohkayee, and all the details will be forthcoming. If the trip is one of our usual scouting adventures we'll get the best of the rest in updates so let's stay tuned. Seems like this group has been all over the country and world in the last few years.
Well, I think MARY would want to keep the photos Dream Home related, but then it's only a guess on my part.
Hello all !! Here in Florida we are having unusually cool weather, record lows for this time of year; are we in for a doozy of a winter?? I'm not complaining, I love cold weather….everybody else starts putting on jackets when it gets 45*, I wear short sleeves! I think I would like Vermont !! For those who have asked, my back is doing quite better; monday I had 10 trigger point injections for myofascial pain; I have more for the next 2 weeks & then (maybe) I'm done being a pin-cushion !!!!
If you ever had any doubts about heaven, after looking at this view, the answer is: YES, heaven really does exists!!
I love the view its beautiful I can see myself and my family there!!
It is breathtaking. The house is coming along nicely. Good work!
I can't beleive they will be ready for furniture in 10 days? Too much outside to do.
Think positive Charlotte. Remember how long you thought it would take for them to buld this house.
Hah, what a tangled web we weave when first we…now how does that proverb go? Oh yeah, when first we sniffle and then we sneeze. Okay, don't ask—I've never been able to figure out the meaning of that one myself.
Anyway, ready or not, bring on the furniture HGTV. We're all on pines and needles here.
No, I remember thinking that if they had a end date of 7/31/10 they should have been working faster. This contract must have had a different time frame. But they have been working 7 days a week actually doing double time (12 hour days X 7) and are moving quickly. I just don't want to see furniture destroyed in the rush. But they could store it in the 'car barn'.
Oh gawd its back.
Sorry just whining out loud!
And lots of real pain in my neck – pain from the plates and screws they put in in June. This may result in permanent medical leave.
Hello everybloggie !
Winds and lashing rain here in New Hampshire, so I'm guessing the same torrential downpour in Vermont, you wouldn't want to trip over a trebuchet and face-plant in the mud :O) lol Sorry, I couldn't resist that little play on words ! ( Trebuchet is French for " trip" :O)
Stay warm and dry and toasty everybloggie, and may your rain slickers never be leaky at the seams :O)
Thank goodness for whomever invented those boot drying trays that catch all the drips and mud !
GoldieLocks
XO
I hope the folks at HGTV check the weather reports for Stowe very carefully. We don't want any of those great furnishings and accessories soaked in the rain during load-in day!
Maybe the moving truck can back right up to the car barn.
Thanks Deerspring. My Dad used to be a cook at a CCC Camp in Montana. When growing up my sister and I were so lucky to be able to smell all those wonderful smells coming out of the kitchen. He especially liked to bake bread and donuts. I never inherited his talent but my son did. He does a lot of the cooking in his family. Thanks again Deerspring Soney and I really enjoy reading all of your posts!
If you look at the newest time-release construction photos from end of Sept…. http://www.hgtvpro.com/hpro/photo_template/articl…
In photo # 158 it looks like they have drilled(?) holes for something. Pegs(?) to hold that landscape woven stuff in place maybe? Are those pails for water to set concrete in the holes to anchor pegs? That could be landscape woven rolls that I have seen in magazines. Or huge woven bags for boulders. It keeps soil from washing down and away.
Seems alot of boulders dumped into piles for hills? Wonder if that is to make a driveway going from the garage between the hills to join up with a road that will be up at a higher level than the level of the Dream Home. (Maybe a higher elevation Dorm/ visitor parking lot?)
In photo #161 it looks like they might be building up hills to landscape in front of the garage area after that membrane is put down around it and over the top. Then soil would be poured into the membranes voids. Could that be a roadway they are making thru the small hills going off somewhere UP toward the camera direction….. at a higher level?
I have seen some of this mesh used for retaining soil on slopes in the "Soil Erosion" magazine. Look at page 19 to see one kind, Terramesh, used. Can earn "LEED" Green points.
http://npaper-wehaa.com/soil-erosion/2010/01/18/#…
If they build a retaining wall system for an upper parking area, they will also need drainage built in so the water doesn't push the wall down over the years.
Good idea for something up there….. then skiers and rocks may not roll down into that wonderful Dream Home!!
I was hoping that hollow in the center of the piles of rocks would become a private pond….. that could become a private small ice skating rink area in the Winter. LOL
I was hoping for a small pond inbetween those hills of rocks. Seemed to be a dip inbetween them. That Summer pond could become a Winter ice skating area for fun.
Actually if you look at picture #160, you will see a large boulder in the lower left. That boulder is probably a part of the mountain. It was broken up by the large jack hammer steam shovel. It is gone in picture #161. But it's baby boulders are scattered all over. ^_^
Thanks Ed. "Baby boulders"……. how about that! LOL
So they jack hammered up the rock that was in the way?
Could they have used some explosives also…………. if those huge mats covered up the area so that pieces wouldn't fly about?
Good Guess! That's exactly what they use those mats for!
Could use some elegant lampposts by the parking area? http://www.brandonindustries.com/productcart/pc/v…
Hey RJMstone, you are always on top of the right stuff, furniture from back in time, eco building, just the right time for a lamppost, appropriate places for every screw, nail, and joist. Amazing. I would add a very old fashioned looked brass post that has reminder from maybe the 40's?
With rain in Stowe, I wonder if HGTV will offer the dreamer who comes up with the correct date for the first of this season's snowfalls a free visit and home tour?
You might have already checked this out but it is starting to get pretty cold there at night. Maybe it will start snowing there the day they unload all of the beautiful furnishings on Oct 16th.
http://www.onthesnow.com/vermont/stowe-mountain-r…
Definitely looks a bit cold and gloomy right now in Stowe, but I imagine it's too early yet for any serious snowfall. Of course, they could get a polar express and surprise the HGTV folks on load-in day!
Ooops I posted my guess down below.
There are so many great writers here. That is what I want to do write a story about my life. This movie is so like me I can't believe it! I was so naive when I joined the Army. I retired as a SSG in Special Forces. Everyone was taller than me I alway stuck out like a sore thumb. You guys are bringing back so many memories for me. Thanks! Goldie was talking about a condo to keep on DH subject matter would like to see the next Urban Oasis in Seattle and the DH in Hawaii. Here is Private Benjamin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co-VZiZNHfU
Hi, This is a great first paragraph for your story. I hope you grab that writing tablet—and take it from here—-jotting down one story a day—you have a wonderful, unique story to tell—and share with the world. LOL
Hi everybloggie,
The first snow fall in Stowe is anybloggie's guess, but on 4th October, I did hear the first geese flying south for the winter ~ a whole week earlier than they did in 2009. Perhaps winter will indeed be early ?
My official guess for snowfall and accumulation for the Stowe Dream Home will be… October 28th 6pm 6 inches overnight- That's pretty specific.
That's about as as specific as you can get! LOL! You were right about Virginia for the DIY BC.
Great location! I lived in Virginia during my junior high years and have fond memories of
the Chesapeake Bay. I'm not familiar with the area near the BC though. I've vacationed in
Virginia since those days in Williamsburg, Richmond, and the mountains. OK, back to snow
at the DH. My guess is October 18!
Good morning My guess is November 1st 1 AM 3 inches by sunrise. LOL
There are new videos everyone. If you didn't know already.
Any links? We are spoiled!

Putting in big Pella windows. Got to have tool belt like that one on that guy in video Marker #1:02. Never saw one so big and handy. (drool) Wonder who makes it. I just returned a toolbelt that just wasn't what I was looking for. Maybe Santa will listen.
Go to "Mountain Home Construction" video. Good to see Jack again
Wow, what a view! I would love to wake up to that view winter or summer or spring or fall for that matter! What a beautiful description Paul provides. You can just picture that rosy glow from the sunrise. How wonderful that he thought to incorporate a spectacular view of our Creator's majesty! Was just out in Colorado and had beautiful vistas every day, especially the day in CO Springs! When you see such beauty you just have to be in awe! I'd love to see the views from every window in the house. Makes you feel closer to God, right? Such awesome beauty, it takes you away from the everyday hustle and bustle and leaves a lot of time for just soaking! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Well, a lottery for the Stone Hut and a sweepstakes for the Dream Home. Sounds like Stowe has plenty of interest from folks in the know, or snow.
As for the views—clearly awesome in any direction.
Hi Deerspring I love this, how cozy an charming. . I was ready to book a lottery ticket—-but the trek to the Octogon building—-gave me pause to rethink this thought . ha I think maybe a nice quiet ride to the top in the gondola—- and look out over the peaceful landscape by moonlight—-might be my first choice now. LOL
Hi Deerspring, Cold is right, and then I was thinking about using a flashlight to find the way there in th dark—-and all those black bears they have in that area—-at least one of them probably won't know he's suppose to be hibernating instead of roaming around. ha ha
Yes, it's been years since I've traveled through the New England states, and I enjoyed photographing all those charming old sotne buildings and the numerous old stone bridges along the remote gravel roads. I have one charming picture I took of an old stone bridge n the fall, I picked up several autumn leaves along the road and when I had it ienlarged and framed I had them place the small leaves in th corner.
Good grief—I forgot to proof read this post. Can I simply hit edit after I've posted and correct spelling errors—- or does it post entire new post? Thanks
Good morning Deerspring, So many spelling errors I wasn't sure if I could go in and correct them. Most of the time I simply let it go. YES the photo I had framed has a wonderful reflection of the creek and the forest colors of the surrounding trees. The little stone bridge was covered in the crevices with moss and I'm sure it's been peacefully arching over that little creek for a century or more. Love traveling on back roads and photographing those quiet places tucked away in this wonderful country we are blessed to enjoy. LOL
Hi The wind this morning feels like it's arriving straight off of Mt Hood. Buurr. My son sent a text photo several weeks ago on his way up the Teton Pass—snowing like crazy. According to the "old-times" in Jackson Hole they are predicting a severe snowy winter.
I remember my father and his weather predictions—- every year at the beginning of every season he clued us in on how the season was going to turn out. He and the rest of the neighborhood farmers, for the most part, were quite accurate. Oh the good old days of the Farmer's Almanac.
I am still hoping that the big bedroom in the dream home can be made into two smaller ones that are more private. Also the big bath with three showers needs to be made more separate. I know that the idea is a ski lodge atmosphere however it is a home and I think guests might feel weird having to share a bathroom with other guests and be in the same room. One accessible shower would be nice also for those who maybe can't ski but would enjoy visiting and the scenery! I hope you keep this in mind. Thanks HGTV!
I don't think you should worry about changing it unless you're intending to buy it from the winner. The dorm room thing probably is more geared towards groups like a boy scouts one weekend, girl scouts another.
A new blog? Its only been 6 days.
Hi RJMstone, Yes, another wonderful photo. Gail's video, with some of these same awesome views from those beautiful windows the architect is describing is not far off I hope.

Dearest Deerspring, this is such a gem of a comment. I would love to stay a night in the Stone Hut, and watch the twinkling lights from where the DH is. Imagine being hunkered down on a cold night, with all of the truffles, good books, fantastic music, Verns UNICEF candles, a good friend or your honey. I want to keep giving you thumbs up for this remarkable comment. GENIOUS!!!
Hi Dear Deer, it's so fantastic that you gave Ali credit for her post, and we all found it interesting enough to follow up, and make those connections.
As per Gail's suggestion, and RJMstone's wonderful offering. take a look at this gorgeous foliage.

God's country view! Magnificent! The window view is like a perfect impressionistic portrait, no matter what the weather, or the time, all the time! Extremely creative master. Love the pocket doors, the highboy warms the cockles of my New England heart, the hidden flat-panel tv makes me giggle that the master has a secret!
Can't wait to spend my time here with my handsome husband!!!! So romantic! =-)
I can certainly imagine by looking at this picture how you would feel like you were going to a special place that not only creates an air of mystery and excitement but a feeling of enchantment and awe. As a nature photographer (amateur) I find that I am at happiest when out in nature and this allows you to be there all the time. This would certainly be a "Dream" home for my husband and I…I can see us re-retiring here in a heartbeat!
WOW! Just been checking everything out on this beautiful house. Our 2 chihuahuas would LOVE their own house withing the bedroom. What a place for dreams!
inspiring every single day!
