So Much to See in Stowe
Hi all.
Happy holidays! I hope you are enjoying the winter season and spending quality time with family and friends.
The clock is ticking down: Only a few days remain until you can enter for your chance to win HGTV Dream Home 2011. This year, you can enter twice daily — once on HGTV.com and once on FrontDoor.com.
Since we’re on the topic of FrontDoor.com, I want to direct your attention to a vlog series senior editor Annalisa Burgos has created. She visited Stowe in early November in search of the coolest restaurants, shops and sightseeing opportunities. Take a peek at her first installments in the video series. Then pop back here to comment.

This picture looks like a postcard. It reminds me of being in Germany with all of the snow!!!
I'm a true believer that if you do unto others. You will be blessed and good things will come your way!
Anyone else thing the entrance to this home is just perfect? I love that overhang above the front door. It just says "come in, and enjoy." forget vacation, that would be home sweet home.
What a beautiful dream come true if one should win this.
My husband and I went on a romantic Vermont vacation and to able to enter a contest to have a chance to possibly return there and recapture that feeling for a lifetime would truly be a blessing to anyone.
great videos, cant wait to experience it in person
Everything about this house and its location is like going home for me. Our first home was in Dummerston , our first child, who was born in Brattleboro, later became engaged to be married in Stowe. She and her fiance love Stowe and are frequent visitors.
The state of Vermont has a certain "feel" that I have never experienced anywhere else. It broke my heart when we had to move away due to the poor economy. The birch bark on the house reminds me of my great-grandfather's summer cottage, which was covered in spruce bark. A ground-floor master suite is quite convenient, the amenities are impressive and the views take my breath away. The house would be a great retirement home, with plenty of space for my kids and all of their winter gear. I'll have to keep my fingers crossed!
Hi everyone! I'm not sure if this has already been discussed — I wish I had time to read all the comments. Not only is Stowe a wonderful place (my husband and I were married and honeymooned there), but also Stowe is a healthy place. As of my last visit this past fall, there are no fast food restaurants in Stowe. There seem to be very few in the entire state. The food offerings are excellent and diverse, but since I live in the Midwest, the absence of fast food seems surprising. People as a whole actually look more fit. There are also fewer elevators. Places to hike are everywhere though. Perhaps winning the DH may also extend the lucky winner's life!
The Home is gorgeous!!!! I lived in New England several years and it is very unique and stunning.
I realize some are worried about taxes and cost of ownership as I would be, too. If I won, my plan would be to live in it a year and evaluate. My real "dream home" would be to use rental income or sale income to buy dream homes for the people in Louisiana and Haiti. Bought a house for a poor family in Africa once for $2000 dollars and have the family standing in front of it. It is brightly colored and they are smiling. If I do this, I would contact Anderson Cooper to arrrange it all. I love that guy! He is MY HERO!!!!!!!
I love this home! It would be like owning a piece of Stowe history! Famous people, winter sports, resorts, and shopping! What more could one ask for? On Front Door, they have listings of the homes for sale in the area. Wonderful place to spend winters and all year round. I hope I'll be able to travel to Vermont, just to see this Dream Home!
Any one know if that door on the left side of the master bed is a walk in closet.
The town of Stowe looks like so much fun! I have never heard of it until I started seeing it on HGTV. Now, I feel like I can't get enough of it. I love seeing new updates on here about different things to do in Stowe. You all did such a great job introducing the town that I feel like I have been there before. I really do not think you all could have picked a better place!
my husband and i visited stowe last year and we had some of the yummiest breakfast ever. if i lived at the dream home i would have a year supply of vermont syrup at all times, drink it like its water and consequently buzz around like a hummingbird.
if you visit stowe, first thing to do is order pancakes. or french toast. or anything and pour syrup all over it.
then ski off the sugar high.
I've never been to STOWE. I am soooooo excited to win. I really can't stop thinking about the house and all that my husband and I can do in this fabulous place. Or how much our lives will change. It's better than winning the lottery!
I am entering sweepstakes everyday, what a great birthday present that would be. My birthday is two days before the drawing. This is such a beautiful home
Wow what a stunning house..It would be a dream come true if i win these house, for me and for my family…
I LOVE Stowe!!! I lived near there a few years ago and loved everything about it… The people are friendly and interesting; the seasons change with a robust flair and there are so many things to do! Keeping with the Dream Home history, the 2011 home is beautiful, innovative and so much like home. I can't wait to see it!
The space between the mudroom and entryway is that a water closet for the main floor
yes. look at photos for entry – beautiful wc.
I had a quick glance of the water closet/powder room in the tour given by John and Gail. Great job with the location of the powder room just in the middle of the traffic in main house.
What a sweet little community. I can literally see us nestled in by the fire. My husband and children are avid snowboarder/skiiers so this is a piece of Heaven!!!!
I love the idea of filling the home with family and friends. I call it the 3 F's…Food, Fellowship and FUN!
I am sure that every person wishes to win this fab Dream Home. I am desperate to leave NY. The politics, taxes, greedy rude people are killing my husband, me and my little girl. I absolutely love this house. It is the exact house I have seen in my dreams since I have been a little girl. It is was ment to be it shall happen. My husband works so hard to take care of our family. I told him tonight…we finally should win because of all the suffering we have made it throught in our 8 years of marriage. I can not say it any more because I say it in my sleep now.
I've been working on Ancestry.com since last October to find out the historical roots of my family, which, of course, started on the east coast — yes, Vermont is in the picture !! I've got family roots from the 1700's in Vermont– brought a smile to my face.
Ok, not only do we have the winter schedual all planned out ,, but also, spring, summer and fall as well. Husband is talking about the awesome mountain biking, he would definitely enjoy ! What a fantastic thought of biking thru this beautiful area., taking in all its natural beauty. Like I said, this home is very Do- able for us. I can feel us being here, and being part of this great community with all our family and friends visiting with us and enjoying as well. Can't wait for the drawing. Good luck to everyone and blessings to the winner.
Warming trend this Saturday in Stowe — climbing out of the single digets !!
I love this state! I went to culinary school in Vermont and spent some amazing years in Burlington, Essex Junction, and Stowe. I really love the atmosphere in Vermont and Stowe is such a special place in it. I would spend my days off at the farmers markets in Burlington and Stowe and spend time walking and eating along Church Street and Stowe. I also took my wife there for the first week of our honeymoon last summer. An amazing place.
I am overwhelmed by the beauty of this home and the community that surrounds it. What I love most is that "family" is the focus of this home and project. What a great place to strengthen family togetherness.
COUNTDOWN SAYS 12 Days —- 00:05:04
My husband and I looked through the pictures of each room of our Dream home! We looked at Stowe. We looked at the fall colors, the ski resort, but when he saw the Grill…he went wild! He loved the outdoor Jacuzzi and decided that his snowboard could live in a home like this! I just want to live in a home I could love and cherish and share with my family. I dream about this home in my dreams. I am so nervous about who will win and keep having faith that I will finally have a place to live the rest of my life out. Not just any place, but a place that I truly love! I love the area, home, the feel and colors of the home. I feel like a kid just waiting to see if I am going to live in a castle when I grow up! I am grown and I found my prince charming of 28 years and now I have 4 wonderful grown children that I know would love to visit and so many friends that I would love to share my time with. Yet, the quiet warmth of each evening and morning will be filled with a special appreciation for having something so fabulous to wake up to and to sleep in! The slopes will waiting for my hubby! Either way, life is grand and I still wish everyone and the person who wins the happiest moments one could have if they live in this Dream Home!
I cant wait to live in such a great town! The arts the skiing the spa the water falls, horseback riding and can you say maple syrup so much for my girls!
"How do you Solve a Problem like Maria?"
"High on a hill was a lonely goatherd, Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo"
We love the lyrics from those great songs (taken from the movie) about Stowe's own Von Trapp family!
I feel that our family has a big connection to Stowe and this Dream Home because we are The Timm Family Singers(like The Trapp Family Singers) and have been called the vonTimms. All six of us have been singing together for more than a decade and the first musical theater production that Mom and Dad and our 4 children were in together was The Sound of Music! I have never been to Vermont, but have always wanted to go to Stowe because of the Trapp Family Lodge. I think that this Dream Home would be a wonderful place for our family to make new music together.
Perfect year round spot for having fun , exploring, and enjoying life ! Love the thought of horseback riding in spring, thru the streams, trails, and forest. Yes indeed, extremely Do -able for us !
