Design Ideas from HGTV Dream Home

Happy Friday!

Today, Super Fan shares some decorating ideas from HGTV Dream Home 2011. Replicating these looks at home would be a cinch.

Before we get to the video, I thought I’d address some blog questions.

What is the speed limit on the road near HGTV Dream Home 2011?
Speed limits are five miles per hour on Lift Line Drive and 50 miles per hour on Mountain Road.

Can the winner rent out HGTV Dream Home 2011 to vacationers?
Yes. Home owners in Spruce Peak occasionally rent out their homes.

Will there be powder for winter activities when the home is given away in March?
Most likely. Visit UVM.edu to check snow depths at the top of Mt. Mansfield

  2. Happy Valentine's Day! <3 Have a good one!

    A Swedish Proverb I read ever so often…..

    Fear less, hope more;
    Eat less, chew more;
    Whine less, breathe more;
    Talk less, say more;
    Love more, and all good things will be yours.

  3. Hey everyone I have a great idea! Lets see who the winner is and then mail them $1 each and help them pay the taxes. What a team effort in giving to help make someones dream come true and help them be able to keep the house every time. What do ya'll think about that idea?

    gophorguy on February 15, 2011 at 2:24 am
    • Love it

      zuludog on February 15, 2011 at 5:41 am
    • sounds like a plan…..actually make it 2 for 2……..its all about 2s this year…..one dollar for the taxes and one dollar for the blog party thrown afterwards

      violetrose39 on February 15, 2011 at 9:45 am
    • That idea gets suggested every year, but people never follow through. Also, it's been mentioned that the winner would have to pay taxes on those $1 donations, too. At least this year, HGTV is up front about providing a cash option so the winner has a choice and can still have many of their dreams come true.

      Wyo_Girl on February 15, 2011 at 7:14 pm
    • Wouldn't the $500,000 help a lot with all the closing costs and taxes? If I win, that's what I plan on doing. Perhaps I don't have the full picture. I will be able to do that, wouldn't I?

      Annamill1 on February 22, 2011 at 4:04 am
      • Many people aren't aware that large sweepstakes prizes are taxed as normal income sources at their reported value, and have no idea what yearly property taxes and HOA fees could be on a million dollar plus home and other ongoing maintenance costs compared to what they're used to. So the $500,000 is a good help, about 2/3s of the amount needed for the federal income tax on the total prize value as reported on 1099 form(s), due next April (presuming they select to receive the home, not the optional cash for that part of the prize winnings).

        dreamn_again on February 22, 2011 at 12:54 pm
        • Wow! I think the very first thing I would do, under the circumstances, is hire a tax attorney! LOL!
          I was reading that the land taxes are $1.93. But I have no idea on what. $1.93 per thousand, per 10 thousand. Are there HOA fees? Is this a community? Yes, this will be a costly prize but I feel it's well worth it. Like others I'll probably rent it out in winter to pay expenses. Thank you for the info dreamn_again.

  4. THANK YOU MARY & GAIL FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORKING KEEPING US POSTED ON THE HG HOME!
    I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE POSSIBILITY OF WINNING!
    LET ME TELL U WHAT I WOULD DO!
    MY 2 YO SON WAS DIAGNOSED YESTERDAY WITH AUTISM BY NEUROLOGIST ON V-DAY! WE HAVE SUSPECTED FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. IF WE WON WE WOULD BE DONATING VACATION WEEKS TO FAMILIES WITH AUTISTIC CHILDREN! WE LIVE IN FL (MOVED FROM IL ONLY 9 MO AGO) SO WE WERE THINKING WE WOULD STAY IN SUMMER WHILE THE KIDS ARE ON BREAK. RENT OUT A FEW WEEKS TO COVER PROPERTY TAXES & INSURANCE. WE WOULD EQUALLY GIVE AS MANY WEEKS AS WE RENTED OUT TO FAMILIES WITH AUTISTIC CHILDREN FREE! I WILL EVEN STOCK THE FRIDGE!
    I KNOW HOW HARD IT IS COPING WITH SOCIETY AND MY CHILD ACTING OUT IN PUBLIC. I TEND TO ISOLATE, MINIMIZE BEING IN PUBLIC WITH MY CHILD DUE TO THE REACTIONS OF THE PEOPLE.
    SO AT LEAST THE FAMILIES I COULD HELP COULD GET A BREAK FROM THEIR DAY TO DAY ROUTINE AND VACATION TO SUCH A GORGEOUS HOME! THANKS HGTV & BEST OF LUCK TO ALL THE DREAMERS OUT THERE!

    • I guess its that time that these "I would if" stories come out.
      They're usually much easier to read in lower case though.

      dreamn_again on February 15, 2011 at 12:31 pm
      • Sorry when I dream I get EXCITED!

  5. Hello everyone and good luck! This is the most beautiful home ever. The best designers and decorators. I sure hope I win. They are giving you a brand new life. I would walk out of my shoe box run down apartment that I live in now and never look back. Sure hope I win!

  6. Does anyone no when they are announcing the winner?????

    ninas24 on February 15, 2011 at 6:17 pm
    • That information is listed in the rules. Click on that and you can find all of it — there are several dates regarding the drawing and the announcement, I think.

  7. I would like to know if there is a Laundry shoot from the MUD ROOM to the LAUNDRY ROOM directly below it and if not, could there be?

  8. I feel that our family has a big connection to Stowe and this Dream Home because we are The Timm Family Singers(like The Trapp Family Singers) and have been called the vonTimms. All six of us have been singing together for more than a decade and the first musical theater production that Mom and Dad and our 4 children were in together was The Sound of Music! I have never been to Vermont, but have always wanted to go to Stowe because of the Trapp Family Lodge. I think that this Dream Home would be a wonderful place for our family to make new music together.

  9. Just wanted to say how EXCITED I am about this Dream Home…it truly would be a dream for me and a chance not only to move back to New England, but to also finally be able to LIVE. It's been a long 10 years, starting with the first major car accident and fixing my injuries, to the second which almost killed me (a semi rear ended/ran over my car)…adding to the injuries, and I am Finally Able to move forward, and what a GREAT JOY This would be for not only me, but my family and friends to come and visit and enjoy all that New England, Vermont and the mountains of Stowe……awesome…so awesome…have my fingers crossed!!!!!

    And, I did have a question about the space above the garage…from what I thought I read from the contractor, is is possible to create a space up there, I am an artist…and it would be perfect to use as a studio/office…..is this possible…it would just put the cherry on the top for me!!!

    DottieWinke on February 18, 2011 at 4:34 am
  10. Good luck to you all..My husband agreed to leave his job in New Jersey and move all the kids to Vermont if we won the house! I can’t believe, it would be a dream come true. I just entered for the last time, feels strange…

  12. I love the new Dream Home. I have one Question If I won and decided to have a party in the gathering room when would my guesta have to go to use a powder room?

    momirons on February 18, 2011 at 11:34 am
    • Every year people have problems locating the public powder room in the dream home. Its currently featured in the photograph section of the online tour of the "entry way" in pictures #11-14 or so. If you're having a party you might as well reserve the ski-dorm bathroom as a ladies room with its triple vanity and two extra roomy toilet areas.

  13. The 2011 Dream Home is beautiful!

  14. I have the date added ( March 12th ) to my cell phone calander already. ( also the day before, for an added reminder) I plan on being home that day.,, ( make it nice and easy for HGTV to find ) We are fully prepared to welcome the announcment crew with open arms !! ;) Someone lucky family has to win , right ? ;) Thanks to everyone for all your hard work who has been involved ( sponsors too ) who put so sooo much of themselves, and their companies into this beautiful home . Blessings to the winner.

  15. I absolutely love the fall colors found throughout this home ! ( thank you Linda) :) So rich in true New England shades of classic color, brought from the outside, in! My husband and I are originally from the north east, and love it love it, we have as of two years ago, made a move to the south.( which we also love) Winning this home would truly enable us to bring us so much closer to our family and friends who we miss so much. So this win is not only for my husband and I but my loved ones as well. Every time I watch the original home tour given by Monica Pedersen, and John Gidding makes you feel as if your there with them, walking through the house as well. I can envision myself , my husband and son, enjoying and sharing this home with family, relaxing, enjoying the great outdoors, skiing, exploring, entertaining, gathering, baking, and cooking, in this absolute beautiful gourmet kitchen, (thank you Jack) . I can very much appriciate all that has gone into planning this dream come true. I can "feel" the words that are used to describe this home. To just visit and enjoy the area of Stowes Spruce Peak alone, is absolutly beautiful, to own this home , is a wonderful heart felt dream. I truly feel we are the perfect match for this home. :) Blessings to the winner.

  16. Hi Mary, I just have to say again, how much I love these classic New England shades of color used through out this home. They absolutely bring the outdoors, in ! Love the deep rich greens, browns, gold's, yellows, reds,and oranges,. you feel the warmth the home radiates. A lovely inviting home, that says welcome and come in . You would all be very welcome to come visit this beautiful home any time. :) Blessings to the winner.

  17. Well, I put in my last two entries on the 18th. Now we wait. I don't know if I can stand it. To kill time I'm having a new hairdo and color. I'm spit-polishing my house. All for the cameras that MIGHT come on 3/12.
    On that day I will sit at home, next to the phone right up to 12 midnight.

    I realize that there are those out there that can be cavalier about winning. "If I win, ok. If I don't win,ok." Not me. I haven't been this excited about anything in a long time. I'm new to HGTV and these beautiful home sweepstakes, but they have an avid fan now, whether I win or not.

    I'm retired and my husband, who is 9 years my junior, will retire soon. We live in a small town in CA called Ramona. We are originally from the New Jersey shore. If we win this house we will move up to Stowe, VT and my Hunny will retire early.

    We love this house and we join the HGTV Dream Team hoping, like all of you, to win. Our kids and friends will love coming up. I even have an adorable little Maltese, Maxie, that will absolutely love the Doggie Dream Home.

    Good luck to all of us!!

  18. What an amazing chance it would be to show our children more of our beautiful country. Actually have something new and beautiful to share with others. Finally my daughter could have a room a full size bed would fit in. I pray to god every day for a better life for my children, maybe this could be it.

  19. Can't wait to see who won!! I know it most likely won't be me, but so many people are struggling, and everyone deserves it, so I am just excited to see who wins it!!

  20. What is the date and time of the actual drawing for the winner of the 2011 Dream Home?

    recycler007 on February 27, 2011 at 6:08 pm
    • The rules said on or about March 2nd with no mention of the time. You'd have to know someone at Ritway or HGTV to get more specific details of the event before it has happened.
