  1. I would never want to get out! I can imagine waking up at 3 AM after falling asleep. How much of the mountain is lit at night?

Nebraska on February 11, 2011 at 10:32 am
    • I'm seeing it, Nebraska! I can hear the song "Moonlight in Vermont" playing, too, while looking at those slopes lit up!

swimtaximama on February 11, 2011 at 12:14 pm
    • I'm seeing it as well. I'm glad most people here are actually imagining living in the house. I hope whoever wins actually stays in the house. I know I will if I win. After all that's what the half a million is for.

      • amen to that I know we will!

Vanaskies on February 12, 2011 at 11:56 pm
      • Yep that 1/2 mil and another 300,000 will get you there! Unfortunately, I don't have a spare 300K.

Nebraska on February 14, 2011 at 10:39 am
    • Good morning, Nebraska! Did I hear on The Today Show that you'll be getting up to 72 degrees today? I'm jealous! We may reach a high of 21. Have a great day!

      Wyo_Girl on February 17, 2011 at 9:56 am
    • I'm right there with ya. That is an amazing view! Even though we're no longer below zero(for now), I'd move in a hb.

    • who are you telling, I believe I would live in that tub…

  2. Just wondering why there isn’t a dot on the main floor plan to pull a video of the powder room?

Marie bayer on February 11, 2011 at 10:34 am
  3. It's absolutely breathtakingly, lovely! I'm sitting in -5 degree weather today in Wisconsin, and dream about this bathtub!,

swimtaximama on February 11, 2011 at 10:36 am
    • We had -3 during the week in CT. But where we live its all just big goobers of muddy ice along the sides of the street. Definetly not to look out from the window where our tub is. Bleech!!:p

      GoodDaddy2 on February 13, 2011 at 8:37 am
    • Hi there fellow wisconsinite :) That view is all worth it. I have never won anything in my life and of course as we all hope will this time but to whomever does please remember all of us out here wishing to have been you :) the day is coming near and I am all ready loosing my nails. to be finally caught up on bills, a car that does not have over 200 thousand miles on it, and this unbelievable home to boot?? wow what a dream good luck everyone.

luvhgtvshows on February 15, 2011 at 11:29 pm
    • I know it is hard to believe, but the temperatures in Stowe VT get very low with wind chill factors below -5 degrees, but hey, when you are inside a nice warm tub looking out at the great outdoors, all is good. I grew up in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. We used to go up to Stowe to The Von Trapps Lodge and it was always awesome. One of the best lifts in the area, though I spent more time on the slopes at Waterville Valley, NH. It would be a dream to retire in Stowe, only a couple hours from my parents home in NH. It is so gorgeous there, my artist hubby could paint from the tub… just not sure how steam affects oil paintings. :) Dreaming…

  4. After sking all day, soaking in the tub with that wonderful view is priceless. Thank you Mary, I learn so much about the Dream House from you.

    • My first blog – but I had to comment on this Dream Home – this is built for fun – amazing views, dorm room for your family/ friends — and the master bath is a nice place to get away and relax. And the winner is….lucky!

      • They keep everything up and running until they reveal info about next year's DH. Enjoy the blogs, videos, and tours until then!

  5. Good Morning everyone. This is by far the closest I have gotten to the first blog. I feel so
honored. Gail, you really are so cute and animated, how does your hubby reacted to all of
your energy? You are the super fan I thought that meant that you represent all of us without
a voice. We are asking so politely to see the closets in the whole house. Storage space
has been an issue for so many of the homes, Please ask who ever it is who decides these
things to allow you to show them to us, Plleeeeeeeeeeezzze!!!!!??? I know there are mirrors
in the bedroom that open up for storage, but where do the toothbrush and paste go? I
couldn;t hear you this morning because I am on my old computer and the sould is out!!

SandyLA on February 11, 2011 at 10:46 am
    • No problem SandyLA. Gail was sitting in the bath tub and rotating the camera to give you an eye view of all you could see as you enjoyed your bath time. Now picture yourself in the tub and imagine looking around the bathroom, add narration. See, you got it.

Lessie on February 11, 2011 at 11:05 am
      • Oh Lessie, I got it alright!! The views are fabulous and I really am willing to give up
showering for soaking hmmmmmm so nice and relaxing.

SandyLA on February 11, 2011 at 11:17 am
        • If I win the Dream Home SandyLA, consider yourself invited for a weekend…just to soak in the tub and experience the view.

Lessie on February 11, 2011 at 11:23 am
          • Thank you so much and visa versa You would definitly be invited to the bloggers
            weekend Bash!!

SandyLA on February 12, 2011 at 12:40 pm
          • Thanks my friend. See you there!!!

Lessie on February 12, 2011 at 12:57 pm
          • I specifically signed up to blog so that I can get in on this bloggers weekend!! LOL!! Are there any qualifications that I must fulfill?! Ever get an answers on the closets? I could put all the things I own in the mudroom, so I think I will have plenty of space!!

IwanitStowmuch on February 15, 2011 at 8:43 pm
          • Too funny, IwanitStowmuch! Love your name. If a blogger wins, just Come On UP for the party. It'll be great meeting fellow-bloggers as well as HGTV celebs.

No qualifications as yet. We must first get permission from HGTV to attend winner's weekend to party with them.

Lessie on February 16, 2011 at 9:43 am
    • When I look at the photos of the sinks, it seems the lower wood section between the two might be a pullout drawer for storage. Might be able to put your brush and paste there. :-)

stephenwnagy on February 11, 2011 at 11:08 am
      • Thank you for that idea !

SandyLA on February 11, 2011 at 11:19 am
      • I think that is the warmer drawer for lotion and towels – I'm pretty sure I saw that in one fo the videos. Great feature!

woollymommoth on February 11, 2011 at 12:01 pm
      • the lower section between the two is a warming drawer for towels and lotions.

funfordot on February 11, 2011 at 6:00 pm
    • SandyLA, as for the storage space and inside the closet tours, I'm with you. Gail is probably saving that for after the contest has ended. She knows we'll be focused on blogger legend stories to reduce the strain of waiting for the Dream Home Team to knock on our doors.

I think I'll mail in an entry today. Just one to make sure all bases are covered.

Lessie on February 11, 2011 at 11:11 am
      • Lessie, Is it just me or do all bloggers seem to see people looking at you or your
home and thinking they are from HGTV at this time of year? What is the decor
this tear? White. silver, clear, light blue, and sky blue baloons?

        /

SandyLA on February 11, 2011 at 11:26 am
        • It's definitely the time of year, SandyLA! Can you imagine what it will be like after March 2nd? Every unknown person, unfamiliar phone number, strange vehicle, or knock on the door may be an HGTV undercover Dream Home team member scouting out the winner. I'll have plenty of Lindor Truffles on hand to calm my nerves.

As for balloon colors, I liked the colors we had last year. Since I'm be home this year, I may even add a letter to each balloon to show I'm an HGTV fan. Any other thoughts?

Lessie on February 11, 2011 at 2:39 pm
          • I love your Balloon idea and I LOVE your enthusiasm!! Do you think they'll do warm colors this year to go with the interior of the home or cool, slightly neutral woodsy tones to represent Stowe itself? I'm VERY curious..
And most of all, I LOVE your enthusiasm, Lessie! Whenever I see your name, I make sure to read what you've posted.. :D

            Melly1979 on February 24, 2011 at 12:47 pm
          • Thanks Melly1979. I'm looking for the colors SandyLA selected. As soon as I find them, I'll get back to you.

Lessie on February 25, 2011 at 10:34 pm
          • Found the colors Melly. They are clear, white, silver, light blue, and sky blue. I'm getting my balloons at Party City, but Sandy says Hallmark carries these colors also. Of course, a good balloon bouquet must represent the purchaser too. Therefore I'm adding a red balloon to my bouquet.

Lessie on February 25, 2011 at 10:51 pm
        • SandyLA … Since you mentioned it, maybe you should head up the balloon committee this year (I'm not sure, but I think it was Heritage_Seeker who suggested it initially last year). I flew balloons and my family thought I was nuts! It was a good feeling knowing that other bloggers were also flying balloons too and it was a nice way to wait for the big announcement. I imagined that all the balloons throughout the country were sending the Dream Home winner our very best wishes and congrats! I like your colors as they represent winter, snow, sky, and birch bark, but the colors of autumn's changing leaves would be pretty too. I'll be all ears for further updates!

          Both_sides_now on February 11, 2011 at 11:05 pm
          • Both_sides_now, I like your suggestion. If H-S doesn't surface soon to coordinate the balloon committee, I nominate you. The rest of us will help you.

Lessie on February 12, 2011 at 10:53 am
      • Lessie, you seem to know what you're doing. I have a question about the entries, on the rules page it was unclear, but if i register my kids, who are under 21, are they eligible to win the Dream Home?

winnerwannabe on February 13, 2011 at 2:48 pm
        • Winnerwannabe, I took the following from the Sweepstakes Rules:

Eligibility: This Sweepstakes is open only to legal residents of the U.S. and its territories, possessions and commonwealths who are 21 years of age or older as of January 1, 2011,

          Hope this answers your question.

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 3:32 pm
          • Thank you it does!

winnerwannabe on February 13, 2011 at 3:54 pm
          • Wow, Lessie, you may become the official question-answerer for new bloggers! I keep picturing Lucy give advice from her psychiatrist booth for five cents. (I tried to attach a link to a picture, but it didn't seem to work, so you probably got this email twice. Sorry)

            Wyo_Girl on February 13, 2011 at 7:30 pm
          • Just call me Lucy, Wyo_Girl. My psychiatrist booth is my couch. Gotta be comfortable while giving HGTV answers.

    • SandyLa I think you would enjoy toonjie's post. Scroll down and read his travelogue. I know that with your recent on the road travel experience, and visit to the Sandia home, that you would love this.

  6. It's a truly beautiful view outside the window, it's the view from outside to inside that worries me, and personally I prefer the privacy of a door instead of the drapes in the doorway. But, there's no doubt that this bathroom is super-deluxe.

AnneEliseSouth on February 11, 2011 at 10:51 am
    • Don't worry, AnneEliseSouth, Ed won't be your neighbor! (Gotcha Ed! :) ) There are privacy shades. People won't be able to see inside once you close them. As for someone peeking from your bedroom, charge them!!!! Or lock your bedroom door but make sure no one's in there whenever you're in the bathroom.

Lessie on February 11, 2011 at 11:17 am
      • So the way I read this comment is that Super Blogger Legend Lessie charges people to watch her in the bathtub. So what other secrets does this person have. I am sure after fifty years there must be some doozies! Gotcha back! ^_^

EdinOregon on February 11, 2011 at 8:47 pm
        • Have I told you that you're my favorite, Ed? Shhhh, don't tell the others!

        • Not on this blog, spicey Ed! :) You know that's going to cost you–I think another Ed and Babe story may be brewing.

Lessie on February 12, 2011 at 11:00 am
          • I knew I could count on you Lessie. Just be careful. Remember what goes around comes around! ^_^

EdinOregon on February 13, 2011 at 2:46 am
          • Gee, does that mean you'll be waiting in the shadows for me to put my foot in my mouth? If so, you might as well come out of the shadows cuz I'm just getting warmed up writing stories about you and Babe!!!

PS Wanna share any interesting facts with me that can be super embellished? Just asking.

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 3:36 pm
    • You could light those candles, jump into that bathtub, and plan your day to go antique door hunting in Stowe to look for old tall doors you could attach to create a wood screen panel to match the sliding panel doors in the bedroom. Of course it will take lots of Calgon and a glass of wine in that tub to plan it….

swimtaximama on February 11, 2011 at 11:57 am
      • Not a bad idea, Swimtaximama. It will also take many baths in that tub to decide on the perfect solution. Why rush when you're truly relaxing?

Lessie on February 11, 2011 at 2:44 pm
    • I think the best part is that you could be in bed and look through the door and see the view of the mountain beyond the bath tub! I like the idea of the curtain – it makes it more open – and if it is the master bedroom – it just keeps it a little cozy – I would keep the curtain open all the time! I love everything about every part of the house – When I am taking a shower I imagine what it will be like to take a shower there! With the mountains and everything in the house to look at – it is incredible! HGTV did an incredible job and there are so many extra things I keep finding. IN the kitchen, they have an entertainment center, wines from local winery(s) and Vermont Maple Syrup – the best! It just would be the neatest thing in the world to have my family live there!

  10. One thing I noticed during the camera pan was the master bedroom ceiling. There's something in the center of the raising ceiling. Please tell me that's an already prepped hole for a ceiling fan. Wife and I use our ceiling fan year-round, even in the winter. Love to have the air moving in the room.

stephenwnagy on February 11, 2011 at 11:01 am
    • Hi stephenwnagy as a side bar, check into the BlueAir purifier. It gives the air you breathe such a light feeling, and is an excellent product.

Janzee on February 14, 2011 at 7:18 pm
  11. My favorite feature in the master bathroom is the warmer drawer for towels and lotion – a must!!!

woollymommoth on February 11, 2011 at 11:06 am
    • I was just wondering about that and whether it was a warmer drawer or storage.

stephenwnagy on February 11, 2011 at 11:09 am
    • Wow, a warmer drawer for towels……..what a cool luxury!

      ER_RN_MA2_4GRLS on February 11, 2011 at 11:17 am
    • I just wish the vanity had doors under the sink to hide windex, toothpaste, bleach…) Maybe the cabinet company could retrofit them without removing the top.

    Thanks Gail!

  13. Those of you who have been in this house already could help the rest of us now!! Do you
know if there is a towel warming drawer?

SandyLA on February 11, 2011 at 11:32 am
    • Main home page, pictures, thumbnail #15 "The vanity comes with a warming draw for towels and lotion!"

swimtaximama on February 11, 2011 at 12:19 pm
      • Swimtaximama, a warming draw for towels and lotion?!! Forget looking for a door, I'm leaving the bathroom as is!!!

Lessie on February 11, 2011 at 2:46 pm
    • Top drawer is warming for lotion, bottom warming for towels, I wonder if warm toothpaste would work, sound luxurious. LOL

zuludog on February 12, 2011 at 7:59 am
      • Since I have to rinse toothpaste with COLD water (my shtick) I don't think that I want
warm toothpaste. I would try it just to see if the whole experience would be relaxing
and comfprtable. I would even try using warm waret rinsing! Good Luck

SandyLA on February 12, 2011 at 1:02 pm
    • The bathroom was roped off so we couldn't go in it. We could just stand at the doorway and look…

      Daksha9 on February 13, 2011 at 2:26 pm
  14. It wouldn't be a Dream Home vlog without one of Super Fan Gail's signature bathtub views, both to that amazing mountain and ski slopes panorama, and a 360 of the bathroom itself — even that grand straight-on shot to the masculine four-poster bed and cranberry red focal wall.

I like the visual interest created by the band of smaller dark-to-light toned glass tiles in the shower that add such appeal. Whether enjoying a steamy shower or soaking in the tub, what a great room to start the day, or end one, or anytime for that matter!

DBCoop on February 11, 2011 at 12:24 pm
    • Forgot about that! You are absolutely correct Gail should keep this signature pose.
Every DH from now on must include a shot of Gail in the Bathtub. OO lala^_^

And who do you think they be?
      The butcher, the baker,
      The candlestick-maker;
      The Homemaker, the vacation taker,

Janzee on February 18, 2011 at 9:29 pm
  16. Wow, another blog! Thank you so much. I love the master bathroom and the fact that the tub is seperate from the shower. Beautiful.

jarjer on February 11, 2011 at 12:38 pm
  17. I couldn't catch all of what Gail said. The vlog was buffering nearly the whole time.
Please tell me the most exciting piece of info Gail mentioned.

Does anyone know if this bath tub has some kind of heating element under it?
Does anyone know if adding a heating element around or under the tub is a possibility?

Cami on February 11, 2011 at 1:08 pm
    • Well, Cami, there ARE three votive candles sitting there right next to the bathtub. I wonder if they would fit UNDER the tub? That would provide some extra heat.

Personally, I'd like to add electronic, motorized floor-to-ceiling drapes between the Master Bedroom and Master Bath so I could remotely close (or open) them from the bed. Then I'd be able to open them once I'm awake in the morning to take in that amazing mountain view, and close them at night for more privacy. Or, from the other side, in the Master Bath, close off the drapes when I choose, all with the press of a button.

DBCoop on February 11, 2011 at 1:29 pm
      • Lutron could have been used there couldn't it? They must have forgotten those drapes. Maybe you can train a dog to do it for you. I can see a little chihuahua opening and closing the drapes on command….. Getting the newspaper for you….. Fetching your slippers.

        Anything else you desire, master?

Cami on February 11, 2011 at 1:46 pm
        • Too funny Cami!

Lessie on February 11, 2011 at 2:49 pm
        • Well, Cami, a nice hot stack of pancakes would be great, but I'm afraid trusting that even to a well trained chihuahua could have dire consequences. I don't like my pancakes to be served half-eaten away, unless of course I'm the one who did the eating before getting them to the table.

DBCoop on February 12, 2011 at 12:26 am

      • The videos I've seen show the drapes opening quite smoothly. And no one seems to be pulling them back. Makes me believe they're motorized like the window shades.

    • The whole house uses radiant floor heat.

      dreamn_again on February 11, 2011 at 2:36 pm
    • The architect's plan shows pocket doors instead of the drapes between the master bath and bedroom. I seem to remember this being mentioned in one of the videos, too. I can't tell if the doors were never installed or if they are just covered by panels. If any event, it looks like there is an option for someone who wants more privacy than the drapes. Picture 17 of the Master Bath shows the shades over the tub.

brlight on February 11, 2011 at 2:47 pm
    • Thick cast iron tubs(I also have a claw foot) retain the heat very well I think you wont have to worry

zuludog on February 12, 2011 at 8:13 am
    • Cami the next time you have buffering problems just hit the pause button on the video. Then read the blogs or do something else for the next couple of minutes. When you get back to the video most of it will have been downloaded into you computer. Then you can play it uninterrupted.

EdinOregon on February 13, 2011 at 2:55 am
      • I'm trying to figure out why I have those problems in the first place. It never prompts me to download anything special. Any ideas what program I'm missing. It's a new laptop.

Cami on February 13, 2011 at 12:56 pm
        • It's probably just the speed of your server Cami. There's nothing one can download to cure that problem.

      tami9117 on February 11, 2011 at 4:15 pm
    • I think there are Lutron shades if you really want to draw them. I hope they're on a remote, so a person could open them back up to enjoy the view, once she is "covered" by the tub.

  20. Awesome!! I know that the bathtub will get a lot of use as all my apartments have had stand-up shower stalls. I've longed for the time where i can sit and bathe in a tub looking out to the outdoors. What a treat!

    sportymom68 on February 11, 2011 at 2:06 pm
    • When we built this house, I told my husband I wanted a separate bathtub but he got everything wrong and instead put in a hot tub that can't even be used because it stinks up the house. It would be great to finally get what I always wanted. A separate shower and bath because, I think you ladies will all agree with me, that the essence of being a girl is to take that long hot bubble bath.

      tami9117 on February 11, 2011 at 4:14 pm
    • I redid my bathroom a few years back and installed a separate shower and a beautiful extra long clawfoot tub, I am sad to say that the tub only got used a couple of times. I had pictured reading and relaxing in the tub but my glasses were getting fogged up and I am not good at just sitting there and relaxing so it is the oversize shower that I am in love with extra jets and a seat in HGTV's . I am still in love with my tub it looks wonderful and now I dream of bathing future grandchildren.

zuludog on February 12, 2011 at 8:12 am
      • The tub sounds good for bathing your new rottweiler puppy!

  21. I have to say that one of my favorite features is the birch used throughout the home…especially the master bathroom mirror. My maiden name 'Koivuniemi' means 'birch name' in finnish, so I have always been a lover of birch. The birch photos are so pretty that I am constantly drawn to them. Good luck to everyone…whomever wins this will be truly blessed.

    Jewell274 on February 11, 2011 at 2:19 pm
    • My husband's grandfather was a tree man and he planted white birch all over the property. When we built this house, we had to tear them all down. It would be neat to move to a property where there they were again. Kinda like his way of saying "put my Birch back".

      tami9117 on February 11, 2011 at 4:12 pm
      • I know how you feel…here in Maryland, I don't see any and I really miss it!

        Jewell274 on February 14, 2011 at 9:57 pm
    • Good observation. I really like the use of birch, too. It really helps you know that you are in New England, and it reminds me a lot of Robert Frost. "One could do worse than be a swinger of birches."

      Wyo_Girl on February 11, 2011 at 7:16 pm
      • Thanks Wyo_Girl … I wasn't familiar with this particular poem … Beautiful. I love Robert Frost's poetry and I would definitely have a volume or two on the bookcase at the Dream Home!

    • I would have liked to see a cluster of birch instead of another spruce in the front landscaping right in front of the front porch.

zuludog on February 12, 2011 at 8:17 am
      • Exactly! Maybe Linda didn't have a say in the landscaping. Birch trees are beautiful year round but especially in the fall. As a kid, I would stare at the leaves on a sunny day in the fall and they were such a bright color I would have to look away for a minute to refocuse my eyes.

    • I've mailed hundreds but one of the bloggers, I think it is Lessie, states that only the computer entries gets picked and there has never been a winner from a mailed in entry yet. Here's to one of us breaking that tradition.

      tami9117 on February 11, 2011 at 4:08 pm
      • So far, there hasn't been a mail-in entry drawn, and statistically the odds are much better for computer entries, since there are so many more of them. I worry about people sending in hundreds with such low odds and such high costs. Hope it hasn't drastically affected you financially. Good luck!

        Wyo_Girl on February 11, 2011 at 7:20 pm
      • Wow Tami9117, you really wanna win! Go for it! I think I'm stopping at two mail-ins. Let me know your final number of entries.

Lessie on February 12, 2011 at 11:15 am
        • Yes – I do. But then again. There isn't one single one of us that doesn't. But I will dream and pray and keep entering by both means anything that will give me that advantage. Who knows maybe I'll be the first write-in entry to actually win. Good luck Lessie and everyone else

Lessie on February 18, 2011 at 1:11 pm
      • I'm guessing that someone has to enter the written entries into the computer there so they are all together. Otherwise it would be, "hmmm. …do we pick from the letters – or from the computer..?" It just doesnt seem fair otherwise. All entries should be together. That is probably why written ones dont get picked. Maybe I'm wrong, just a guess.

        rosaleah2268 on February 14, 2011 at 1:58 pm
        • They've shown the process before on video and mailed in entries have the same chance as being picked as online ones. Its done by grouping entries into "bins" real and online and first randomly picking a bin number, then going on to pick the winning entry from the randomly selected bin.

          dreamn_again on February 14, 2011 at 2:56 pm
          • yes, I also watched that video. So with the mail in entries you have to essentially "win" twice, first by getting your bin number picked then by getting your mail in entry picked. All the mail in ones should be placed in one spot or entered into the computer or something like that but what are the chances either way? I also mailed in a whole bunch- just in case:) The house, the town, the ski area…..its all just perfect for us.

darbydawn on February 16, 2011 at 1:01 pm
          • Darbydawn, the same rules apply for online entries. As you say, "you have to essentially 'win' twice, first by getting your bin number picked and then by getting your mail in entry picked OR online entry picked." It depends on the number of entries. Personally I'd guess that each entry has a one in 50,000,000 (or more) chance of winning.

Lessie on February 18, 2011 at 11:49 am
        • HGTV has explained the process before – and they make the winner selection a very fair process. They batch the mail-ins in bins and they group the email entries into virtual "bins". They first draw by a random process the bin that the winner will be selected from (whether it be a bin of mail-in entries or a virtual batch "bin" of email entries) – then they draw from that bin. So they really have a very thorough process to give every entry the same chance of winning.

Katieismypal on February 15, 2011 at 8:59 am
          • Thank you for explaining the process! It does sound very fair, and I feel dumb for not having figured that out anyway. You know, at this point I just want the contest to be over so I can stop torturing myself, ha ha! We are all working outselves up into a frenzy over wanting the home so much….Gerri Augustine—

    • I've mailed about 10, sending them every 4 or 5 days so they hopefully get in different bins. Like you, I just wanted the "insurance". I sure wouldn't send much more than that, though. Too much for postage! I like my dreaming to be free!!

      Wyo_Girl on February 11, 2011 at 7:18 pm
      • I wasn't aware people with internet access were mailing in entries. How does that work if you're limited to 2 a day? Does one supercede another?

jaynelh on February 11, 2011 at 7:49 pm
        • The rules state that you can mail as many entries as you want and still enter online once per site. I think they figure that mail-ins don't have much of a chance, and it would be hard to monitor the number of entries per day with mail. However, I worry that people see that and then spend hundreds of dollars on stamps to try to get an edge. Facts are that a mail-in has never won, as the odds are so high against it. It COULD happen, but spending a lot of money is not really the way to go. Still, it doesn't help to have a little insurance!

          Wyo_Girl on February 12, 2011 at 9:20 am
          • Hi Wyo_Girl. As always thank you for always reviewing the rules with us in favor of finding new opportunities to do what we do best enter contest and hope to win. Happy Valentines Day to one of the folk legends on this site.

Lessie on February 12, 2011 at 11:18 am
      • Sounds to me like the big winner every year in the Dream Home Contest is the United States Postal Service. I figured out that if Every entrant sent just two mailed entries at .40 per entry based on the size requirement for mailed in entries they would make $1,600,000.00.

gophorguy on February 17, 2011 at 10:15 am
        • So, you are figuring 2 million people are entering? I have never seen the figures of actual people entering, as some enter every day (twice this year) and some only enter once. I've only seen the number of actual entries, and I can't even remember that number. It's tough getting old and forgetting things!

          Wyo_Girl on February 17, 2011 at 11:55 am

When I get home from work and the flag is down – its even more exciting! So I am down to my last stamp. Should I save it for a bill or should I stick it on a Dream Home Giveaway envelope?
      P.S. Good Luck!

    • Hi Lessie, I have been mailing one entry per day since the begining every day, Monday-Saturday. I thought it won't hurt. I just don't know to be fair to all people, how do they decide which group of entries they chose from. Do they go with onlines or mailed ones? Does anyone know? I hope whoever wins they be happy and I wish them all the best.

IllinoisGal on February 17, 2011 at 4:34 pm
      • The process is a fair one IllinoisGal. Need to get the link that describes the process.

Lessie on February 17, 2011 at 9:36 pm
        • Hi Lessie, I saw the link and read how the winner is selected but I am still unclear if they decide to select the winner from online entries or they would use the winner from mail ins. If all winners to this date been chosen from online entries then what happens to people who opted to just enter via mail?! Just wondering here… Wow tomorrow is the last day can you all believe it??

How do we find out when the winner will be announced? I can't wait to find out. LOL

IllinoisGal on February 18, 2011 at 1:48 am
          • The dates are in the rules, so you can get all of that info there, IllinoisGal. Did you also figure out that they draw a pingpong ball with a number on it to determine if the bin is a mail bin or an online one? That's what makes it fair. It's just that there are so many more online bins, so that's why it's more likely to be selected from there.

            Wyo_Girl on February 18, 2011 at 10:20 am
          • Aha…. Thanks Wyo_Girl now I know :)

IllinoisGal on February 18, 2011 at 10:36 pm
          • HGTV doesn't decide to select an online entry over a mail-in entry, IllinoisGal. From what I understand, the process is two-fold. First, a drawing is held to select the bin that contains the winning entry. If an online entry bin is chosen, a computer drawing is held to select the winner. If a mail-in entry bin is chosen, then a person selects the winning entry from the bin.

After the winner is chosen and verified, I assume all other entries are destroyed.

The winner will be announced March 12th. Check the Sweepstakes Rules for more details.

PS This is Lessie's understanding of the selection process. I am not an HGTV rep.

    • My husand & I have been entering via on-line HGTV Main & Front Door since day 1 (Jan. 1) & have decided this year to also enter through mail-in. Not sure if this was a gamble but we sent 100 mail-in entries each week. We really want this house, it's perfect, location, etc. Although it is time consuming because each mail-in entry had to hand-written (according to HGTV rules any entry mechanically reproduced, computerized or labeled will not be counted, including mailing in bulks as is one huge envelope with several entries), each entry in an envelope with postage, HGTV rules does states you may enter as many times through mail-in. GOOD LUCK ALL :)

      • COProudArmyWife Hi,

We have been mailing one entry for each of us (myself and my husband) daily… based on what I read it doesn't matter how many a person sends out on daily basis because thye only use the 1st entry received via mail per person per day. I don't know how they monitor this but that is what I read.

It took forever I sat one day and wrote all entries for both of us and stuffed them all in the next few days…Extra insurance doesn't hurt, Right?

Good luck to u ArmyWife ;)

IllinoisGal on February 18, 2011 at 1:57 am
        • No, they use all of them, from the mail, although it seems like a huge expense to send 100 a week. I like your idea of sending one per day. That seems about right and not nearly as expensive.

          Wyo_Girl on February 18, 2011 at 10:21 am

  23. Most of the videos we can not view as we live in the country and have dial-up for connection which takes forever and often drops if trying to download video. Based on the tv tour and sceens shown, I know this house would be a fantastic family gathering home. The winning family will be impacted far more than they think, but that’s the dream.

  24. Although I prefer showers I do enjoy a good soak every once in a while. With that view who wouldn't? I hope there are pocket doors so I won't be disturbed! That video seems to have been shot some time ago because there is no snow on the mountain,so I wonder if all the videos have already been done. We may not get any info on closets. A warm towel after a long soak would be heaven!

    • Don't worry, Sandra_ks. Gail is very thorough and has done her job for a while. She knows the questions we ask and probably has closet video up and ready to go.

    • The master bath is just perfect! It isn't hard to imagine taking a shower or a long soak in the tub, but what about the visitors? Where is the bathroom when entertaining guests? If your on the main floor, then your guests either use the materbath or they make a trip to the ground floor bath; because I don't like sharing my bathroom to guests.
I don't get it. Am I missing something?

dljewett on February 17, 2011 at 10:10 am
  25. Splish splash I was taking a bath long about on a saturday night. Rub dub Just relax in the tub
Thinkin everything was alright! Well I stepped out the tub Put my feet on the floor, I wrapped my towel around me And I opened the door, and then a Splish Splash I jumped back in the bath well how was I to know there was a party goin on?
LOL I couldn't help myself…that song was playing loud in my head as I watched the video. I'm thinking the party will be the HGTV dream home give away…and I will just stay in the tub! Of course with the curtains drawn. :)

laughtershock on February 11, 2011 at 4:04 pm
    • Isn't it great, Gail said you can close the curtains to the bathroom for privacy…. right from the bathtub!?

  26. I am a bathtub person! My husband loves the shower! A perfect match! Our dog? Well, we will have to find a different place to wash him :) At least he matches the home with his beautiful golden coat! Anyway, I am thinking of fall scents and candles to relax after being on the slopes in winter. In the spring, I will relax after working in the yard with Lavender oils in the soaking tub. My Towels? Well, beautiful and big! A warm robe to snuggle into and then I will go and read a book in the evening. My personal beautiful place! P.S. My son is proposing to his girlfriend on Valentines! Just wanted to tell everyone because you all don't know me and I can get away with saying it! Ha Ha!

I am counting down the hours when we get our report from our son. If I win, I will bring you to Stowe to say ;) You are all so kind! Have a great Valentines! Teresa

  27. I received an email today, via Katina to Erica to Paul to Katina to me, regarding the note DCoopernova gave Alice. I had asked them to translate it for me. Here is how Paul H. said it should be translated after seeing the words:

    “ Je t’aime mon chou
Allô! Mon amour, cela fait bien longtemps Comment vas-tu?
Ben, je crois que ça va
    Ça fait si longtemps
Mais on dirait que c’était hier
    Hum!

    Hum!

Lessie on February 11, 2011 at 4:55 pm
    • Since I don't know French, I'm open to hearing how you guys would translate it–especially after soaking in the tub in the master bedroom. Here's the English version Paul saw:

      Well hello there,
my it's been a long long time
      How am I doin',
oh well I guess I'm doin' fine
It's been so long now and it seems that
      It was only yesterday
Mmm, ain't it funny how time slips away

      How's your new love,
I hope that he's doin' fine
Heard you told him, yes baby
That you'd love him till the end of time Well you know, that's the same thing that you told me Well it seems like just the other day Mmm, ain't it funny how time slips away

      Gotta go now,
guess I'll see you hanging round
      Don't know when though, oh
Never know when I'll be back in town
But I remember what I told you
That in time you’re gonna pay

Well ain't it surprisin' how time slips away Yeah, ain't it surprisin' how time slips away

        • Alicesoneysmom, it doesn't get any better–DCoopernova singin' and cookin'? You'll never get rid of the crowd in Alice's Restaurant, especially Me, Wyo_Girl, Deerspring, Both_Sides_Now, Cami, and GoldieLocksBear….until Nevada says enough is enough. Do you think Coop will play an instrument as he sings? Ricky did.

Lessie on February 12, 2011 at 5:34 am
          • Hi Lessie I asked DCoopernova what should I do with the thumbs down dude. Here is what he decided to sing next. What a voice! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbzUcgtMDFc

Lessie on February 12, 2011 at 1:18 pm
          • … And if DCoopernova's advice doesn't settle it, we could always request his elusive shadow, Show_me, to make an appearance … I'm not one to gossip but umm, I better whisper this in your ear … I've heard it takes a whole lot to get him riled up 'cause he's a very cool cat … but when he get mad, he gets bad like Jesse James, uh-huh … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BM175x6xGVQ

            Both_sides_now on February 12, 2011 at 10:07 pm
          • You are a hot mess, Both_sides_now! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BLOG!!!

Now you know Alice doesn't gossip, but I was at the restaurant and she didn't know it. I heard her talking and laughing. When I went to investigate, she was listening to I'm Bad Like Jesse James. Then she said, Both_sides, Show Me wouldn't do this. He may know some people who may do this, but he wouldn't. She laughed again and said, "I've got to let Coop hear this song." She picked up her cell and called Coop. I silently left the room because I didn't want to hear Alice's private conversation with Coop. But that doesn't mean I don't want to know what she said. Can't wait to ask her about it later.

      • DCoopernova is cooking up a storm. He built a campfire outside the restaurant and has invited everyone over, and if I heard him correctly, he said he was roasting weenies and marshmallows. I think DCoopernova also said he heard through the grapevine that Cami and her family was headed to Stowe. Don't tell anybody yet because I know you always want to get your facts correct. And you know me sometimes I get a bit confused especially around all these famous people. http://www.youtube.com/user/CooperBooneMusic#p/u/

alicesoneysmom on February 12, 2011 at 5:48 pm
        • Can't get any better than Coop teaching Coop about roasting weenies and marshmallows over an open campfire. Thanks for the starting a campfire link Alicesoneysmom! Loved the tip about candle wax. Will use it on my next campfire, if Ed Bunyan and Babe don't already have a roaring campfire going. I heard that Babe collects all the wood for the campfires. For kindling, he breaks the bigger chunks of wood into smaller pieces with his horns. What an amazing animal! Wonder how Ed tamed him?

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 12:33 pm
          • Cami an elasterator does an excellent job of taming bulls when they are young. When they get older though one has to use a budizzo! ^_^

EdinOregon on February 13, 2011 at 11:34 pm
          • Ed, go wash out your mouth with soap and immediately chase it with a mega dose of Castor Oil. What is elasterator and budizzo? Must be some kinda super legend secret weapon or something. Speaky English please.

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 11:56 pm
          • Sorry Lessie I didn't realize that I left the R out of burdizzo. I can see where that might have confused you! LOL I am sure any cattle man on this site would be familiar with these terms. One can always look the words up in a dictionary.

          • Cruel and unusual punishment, Ed! Babe can't leave a legacy of other Babes? How unfortunate! Will have to create a super legend story to reverse the process. It's a good thing anything can happen in legendland.

Lessie on February 14, 2011 at 10:51 am

      • My grandpa Mo had a song that he sang to my grandma Matea. They were destined to meet and will always be together somewhere in time. I think this blog has brought so many of us together in friendship and were destined to meet.

Janzee on February 14, 2011 at 7:29 pm
        • Hope that meeting happens this year during winner's weekend, Janzee! Wouldn't that be great?!

Lessie on February 14, 2011 at 9:22 pm
          • When I do my crazy version of a math equation, I realize that one part of your comment is doable and the other is solvable. Getting us together is the easy part, we are all looking for a golden opportunity to meet and cheer and bring on the party. Not a little party mind you, but a California Redwood sized party. The next part of the puzzle is how one of us bloggamadillas gets chosen so the celebration can happen. I figure there are at least 3,000 people on the blog of those I took a random sample today, and it looks like everyone is entering at least twice a day. Then folks like tamara who have sent hundreds of mailings in add to that mix. Tumble everything up and I think we have a really good chance.

Janzee on February 14, 2011 at 11:46 pm
          • Janzee, I like your version of math! I would say I feel it in my bones that a blogger will win this year, but I can't. It may be arthritis or something. At least it's not a personal summer.

Lessie on February 15, 2011 at 11:23 am
          • Thanks Lessie on the math high marks. "Cant," is not a word in our vocabulary, and we can do anything we want. I have a dear friend Lorna from Jamaica, who is a teacher. When we go out to lunch, and I hem and hah over what's on the menu, and that it's not exactly what I want, she sings out, in this oh so Jamaica lilt and says, "dawling, YOU, con hov any thing you want on this menu…you must ask them to combine things, and they will get it for you". I feel it in my bones too, and as far as that arthur guy, a product called Dr. Vanessa's powdered collagen is just what the dr. ordered. We woman need this collagen once in awhile-the joints manufacture it naturally, and vitamins and minerals, stretching, relaxing, a nice warm bath gives that pizzaz we need.

Janzee on February 15, 2011 at 3:16 pm
          • Thanks for telling me about Dr. Vanessa powdered collagen, Janzee. Will check it out. Lorna is good for you. The two of you should have a great time together.

alicesoneysmom on February 11, 2011 at 5:58 pm

      • Lessie Cami made it just in time to sing a song with DCoopernova. For not singing together before they sure did a good job. The hills are alive with music, food and fun. Don't tell anyone but Jack T and Jamie D dropped by to wish everyone good luck and took us on a tour of the DH. Cami passed out when she saw the two of them but luckily her dear sweet husband caught her. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVqOvAql-Oc&fe

alicesoneysmom on February 12, 2011 at 6:47 pm
        • Alicesoneysmom, Coop and Cami are absolutely amazing. This was Cami's firt time singing with Coop? I never would have guessed it. They're a good singing duo. Is Cross Creek the creek behind your restaurant that Ed and Babe dug? So many famous people hang out there.Jack T. and Jamie D. dropped by. You should have told me. I would have been there.

I know you told me never to mention this, but do you still have a crush on Jim Samples? Do you still get weak in the knees when he calls in a take-out order? Are you ever going to tell him he's the only one who gets take-out service? When you answer these questions, I promise not to say another word….unless I need a few more details.

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 12:43 pm
          • Actually Lessie I think maybe Jim Samples may have a crush on me or maybe it is all my cars. Actually Jim (may I call him Jim or maybe Jimmy or James) anyway his family has a beautiful chalet right here in Stowe and sometimes I will deliver his order right to his home. The sad part of it is he keeps calling me Sally. I don't know how many times I have told him my name is Alice. I have a number of these beautiful cars parked in the restaurant parking lot and drive a different one each time he orders something. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpnuOdqRkjk&fe

alicesoneysmom on February 13, 2011 at 7:40 pm
          • I see why Jim has a crush on you, Alice. Any woman with a collection of cars will certainly have an admirer. Sally is probably Jim's "pet name" for you. Does he smile every time he says it? You can tell us the truth, we won't tell anyone–Do you call him Jimmy? Does he walk you to the car and stand there listening to the roar of the engine? Better check the trees around the restaurant to make sure he hasn't carved your names or initials.

I had a Mustang in college. Loved it. Gave it to my brother after I graduated. He loved it too.

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 9:13 pm
        • PS Alice, was Me there when Coop and Cami were singing? What was her response? Can't believe how much Me loves Coop, especially since she doesn't know him. I sure would like to know what he whispered in her ear. She'll probably never get him out of her system. At least, that's what my grandma used to say whenever a person had the love jones for someone. BTW, I'm still trying to understand love jones. Must have been someone she met.

          • Yes Me was there and she brought Khaz and Simi with her. They were in a Kitty Valentines Day fashion show in NYC and since Stowe was so close they decided to drop by and see what was going on. Lessie you won't believe what happened. Coop put a nickel in the jukebox and remembering one of Me's favorite songs dedicated it to her. Me told me she realized that Coop was a superstar and had so many fans that she just didn't have a chance but she will always remember this moment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzEe0fo1wyc&fe

jarjer on February 11, 2011 at 7:39 pm
      • Here's my interpretation Jarjer: "I speak a little French also (or Aussi–Australian French). Thank the poor for the French. I love/like the Dream Home (or Jamie and the Dream Home is an incomplete sentence). Thank you very much. Goodbye and good night."

See Ed, I saw errors but I decided to overlook them as well as overlook words I couldn't figure out. OR maybe Joey and I have something in common afterall.

Lessie on February 12, 2011 at 5:57 am
    • Very nice lessie. A few spelling errors, but I am sure they were just typos.

EdinOregon on February 12, 2011 at 1:16 am
      • Spelling errors?! They were all spelling errors to me Ed. But they were the best looking spelling errors I've ever seen.

Kudos Paul H! If Super Legend Ed says something is good, consider yourself knighted!

Lessie on February 12, 2011 at 5:23 am
    • Lessie … This is a bit off-topic but when you are in French mode, I am reminded of one of my all-time favorite movies, La Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain, featuring Audrey Tautou … The film is so quirky and romantic, and the cinemaphotography is a work-of-art — It inspires me to relearn French all over again!

      Both_sides_now on February 12, 2011 at 11:24 pm
      • It's amazing how this blog touches our lives, Both_sides_now. You know French? That puts you in the catgory with Coop, Ed, and a few others. Now that I know this fact, will give you a different role in the legend stories. Gotta think how to add this in.

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 3:43 pm
        • Mon bon ami, Lessie … Je ne parle pas de français très bien plus. Translation: My french speaking skills "stink" …. you might say my fren-glish sounds more like Fifi La Fume, and even then, her accent is much better than mine! I did take three years of French in high school, and two years of Spanish in college, but that was a very long time ago! … and I'm always mixing them up when I try to speak … I am a foreign language mangler so thank goodness for Google translate!

          Both_sides_now on February 15, 2011 at 8:24 am
          • I understand what you mean Both_sides_now. I took French in jr. high school. Do you know how long ago that was? Too long because they've changed the name to middle school. I do the best I can with the little I have, but you're doing great! If I were as good as you when speaking and writing French, I'd probably marry someone from France. Guess that'll never happen.

I hope there is a new vlog in the morning. I won't be able to see it until in the evening, because I have to be at work early.

On another note, to be soaking in that tub in the master bathroom. OH man. That would be so good right now. lol

funfordot on February 11, 2011 at 6:10 pm
  31. Wow!!! I love the birch-bark mirror and the chandelier and the tile in the shower and the….. oh heck, I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!! I can feel my fingers turning into prunes as I type this! I'm not much of a bath-taker, but if we win, my family will certainly lose me to this amenity! Thanks, Super Fan! I will never get enough of this home, of these views, and of Stowe!

vermontlover on February 11, 2011 at 6:18 pm
    • The first thing I thought about was pruney fingers, too! You're funny, vermontlover.

      Wyo_Girl on February 11, 2011 at 7:26 pm
      • Thanks, Wyo_Girl! You've got a great sense of humor yourself-I've been reading your posts!! :P

  32. OK SO MARY AND GAIL! I <3 YOU BOTH!!! Thanks for the new blogs! I am loving the views from the tub! So if you don't hear from me for a week after I WIN.. u'll know where to start looking! :)

  33. Inquiring minds want to know…

Is the tub big enough for 2?? I told my husband to get his own blog account and ask these questions himself! LOL!! :P

vermontlover on February 11, 2011 at 6:42 pm
    • If not there is always the HOT Tub with the fireplace….surrounded by unbelievable scenery. :)

jarjer on February 11, 2011 at 7:46 pm
      • In that case, the neighbors across the road may think the scenery unbelievable, too! hehehe

        • Too funny Vermontlover!!! Any tub is big enough for 2.

  34. This house couldn't be any more perfect…

SWismyGinger on February 11, 2011 at 7:05 pm
  35. Gail,

    Thank-You for the new post!

All I can say is take me away Calgon. The curtains in the Master bath-tub will be closed for dream away Mommy time. A sign will be posted on the bathroom door, "Unless, there is an absolute emergency do not enter or knock or say Mommy I need you." Oh, I will cherish looking out at the beauty of nature embraced with ski slopes in my back-yard. The candles will be lit, the wine will be chilled, music playing, and I will be dreaming of what tomorrow will bring. Dream, Dream, and Dream of the moment.

    Dream Big!!!

Louisefaith on February 11, 2011 at 7:09 pm
    • Dream Big…my sentiments exactly.

jarjer on February 11, 2011 at 7:47 pm
    • Louisefaith, I haven't seen a sign powerful enough to stop chidren from knocking, entering or talking, except one….the one in dreams. Please let me know if physical signs work in the Dream Home if you win. I'll visit with my "work for week's stay in Dream Home shelter" sign. :)

Lessie on February 12, 2011 at 6:35 am
      • Lessie,

We dreamed for year's about adopting children. I would go to bed every night yearning to be called "Mommy." I Dreamed, Dreamed, and Dreamed of my future children every night. I told my husband all I want to hear are the words, "Mommy."

I have no room to complain in my life. I still giggle, smile and get teary eyed just looking at our children. I love our kiddos so so so very much! God brought these kids to us. The signs were alway's there. I just had to learn to listen and quit talking so much.

        God Bless-Lessie

        Dream Big!!!

Louisefaith on February 12, 2011 at 1:05 pm
        • Isn't that always how it happens, Louisefaith? It seems like God works best when we're still. Congrats on your lovely children!

          • Lessie,

            Yes, indeed!!!

          • Lessie,

Happy Valentine's Day to you too!

This day gives me an excuse to eat chocolate all day!

            Enjoy the wonderful day-

            Dream Big!!!

Louisefaith on February 14, 2011 at 7:37 am
          • You're very disciplined, Louisefaith. I'm in chocoholic anonymous. Unfortunately, I don't need an excuse to eat chocolate all day. Guess that defeats the virtual chocoholic anonymous program. Will rethink that next week.

            Enjoy your Valentine's Day!

Lessie on February 14, 2011 at 10:58 am
          • Lessie,

Actually, I suffer the consequences of being a chocoholic every year with root canals at the dentist office.

Today, I took fruit to eat at work. I also took two huge Godiva chocolate bars that my husband had given when I awoke for Valentine's Day. The good news is that I ate the banana and all of the chocolate bars.

I love chocolate!!! We even have a huge Valentine chocolate cake for dessert tonight. Yum-Yum! Any excuse to eat chocolate is like you say – a great one!

            Have a great day!!!

            Dream Big!!!

Louisefaith on February 14, 2011 at 7:26 pm
          • Maybe you should join me in my virtual chocoholic anonymous meetings. Two or three meetings there and you're good until your next chocolate encounter.

Would you believe I didn't have ANY chocolate today?!!! Seafood platter, crab cakes and key lime pie but no chocolate. Ahhhhh, I just love PROGRESS!

Lessie on February 14, 2011 at 7:45 pm
          • Lessie,

I tell ya what- a few more root canal's and I will be ready for those two or three meeting's for chocoholic anonymous. If those meeting's do not do the trick I will be looking into dentures. I cannot -cannot give up chocolate.

It sounds like you had a very beautiful day!! Yeah!!!!!!

We love, love, love Key Lime Pie! Great choice for the day!

            Don't you just love Progress!

            Dream Big!!!

Louisefaith on February 14, 2011 at 8:40 pm
          • Decisions, decisions, decisions. Real teeth or dentures? Chocolate or no chocolate? Chocoholic meetings or no chocoholic meetings? It's Valentine's Day. Let's just have a good time and think about reality tomorrow….or the next day….or the day after that.

Lessie on February 14, 2011 at 9:15 pm
          • Lessie,

            So true!

            Have a great day!!!

Louisefaith on February 15, 2011 at 7:42 am
  36. After seeing the view from the tub to the master bedroom, I am feeling a little better about the choice of curtains instead of doors. Lying in that bed and looking at an unobstructed view of Mt. Mansfield would be heaven. Pocket doors would really cut off that view. I can live with the curtains, especially because the fabric looks to be upscale and luxurious.

    Wyo_Girl on February 11, 2011 at 7:24 pm
    • Fully open pocket doors, pushed back into their wall slots shouldn't block the view. That's their beauty. I have pocket doors in two of my rooms and love how unobtrusively they disappear. Unfortunately, mine don't open onto an amazing view like the Dream Home.

firsthatchling on February 12, 2011 at 12:14 pm
      • It WOULD cut off the view — not through the doors, but the wall above the doors that you would need to hold the frame for the pocket doors. The window in the bathroom is 12 feet tall, and that opening into the bathroom is at least that high. I have not seen 12 foot pocket doors before, and you would still need a frame to hold them. That's the view that would be blocked.

        Wyo_Girl on February 12, 2011 at 12:44 pm
        • Sounds like you're right Wyo_Girl. Personally, I would keep the curtains, especially if they're remote controlled.

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 12:58 pm
    • Okay, curtains or pocket doors, I want that view! AND I want them remotely controlled so I don't have to get out of bed (or the bath) to open and close them whenever I wish.

While my current home has an incredible view, I still have to step out through the Master Bedroom sliders to get the full effect of palm trees framing the snow-capped mountain peaks.. Not at the Stowe Dream Home. Who could ask for more!

DBCoop on February 13, 2011 at 1:42 pm
      • Sounds like a great view to me, Coop. Whether in San Diego or Stowe, enjoy!

PS What do you think of our DCoopernova stories? You, Ed, Alice, and Me make great legend material. Can't wait to see what you guys will do next.

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 9:24 pm

DBCoop on February 13, 2011 at 11:04 pm
          • Instantaneous translation: It's extraordinary, Lessie. It was exactly as you had explained. Since Alice had saved my life that day in Thailand, I was very happy that I could help her out a little. She has always been kind to me, a good friend. And really, one could say it seems like just yesterday.

DBCoop on February 13, 2011 at 11:33 pm
          • Now I understand Coop! Alice is a dear. You two are such good friends. Hope to see you in Stowe at Alice's Restaurant when I'm there.

Since Me isn't telling what you whispered in her ear, would you care to share what you told her? I'm sure she wouldn't mind.

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 11:42 pm
          • My translation: That's extraordinary, Lessie. Blank, blank, exactly how you blank explique? (Must be an adult club I haven't heard about.) I better wait until i get this translated before going further.

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 11:39 pm
  37. I'm a tub-ette, in more ways than one. I could soak in that tub for hours, sippin' somethin' and contemplating the the cobwebs overhead. That shower would be great for dog washing, wouldn't it? (I'd have to get a dog, of course.) I think a few large potted plants would create an acceptable screen in the window; remember, that bathroom is on the second level facing the road, so peepers would be peeping from way below. We Vermonsters like to bathe (et cetera) al fresco; I envision steaming in the hot tub, snowflakes falling on my face, a cuppa Grog or a hot toddy at my side… and maybe a few friends.

jaynelh on February 11, 2011 at 7:38 pm
    • Bathtime in Vermont should be fun, Jaynelh! Bathing al fresco….why mountain folks have been doing that a long time. Vermont just spices it up. Must be why Ed and Babe love Vermont.

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 1:01 pm
  38. My husband will be retiring in a few months and my grandson has just taken up skiing. It would be great for entertaining my 6 year old grand daughters dance competition group too. I'm sure my daughter and her husband would love the guest room. We're all sharing a mini ranch right now. We're dreaming of more room!!

cuponer on February 11, 2011 at 8:17 pm
  39. Love It – I LOVE to take nice relaxing soaks, and how wonderful the view. If the bath is a little hot all you have to do is open the window, awwwhhhh, can you say heaven!!!

davidanddiane on February 11, 2011 at 8:28 pm
  40. I have an off-the-wall question for Mary: In the blueprints of the DH, the area alongside the garage is designated as "Storage", but the final construction shows it as an outside balcony and lounge area from the master bedroom all the way to the driveway. This would've solved all the problems with storage; why did they change the plans? And yes, if the winners want to go to the expense of putting in a loft in the garage, they (or I) could make that a storage area… there goes $30K of the cash (maybe more?)…

    delmar1944 on February 11, 2011 at 8:48 pm
    • Yeah it would have been a great place to put the toothpaste , the windex and the preparation H.

zuludog on February 12, 2011 at 8:28 am
      • LOL, zuludog. Is that all you would store–toothpaste, windex, and preparation H? Too funny!

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 1:04 pm
  41. Hardly any snow aroung the place. The film clip must have been made months ago.

    • You took the blog right off my fingers – they must be taped well in advance. Which would also explain why no closet tours like we've all been asking for.

      Briman12 on February 11, 2011 at 11:07 pm
      • Exactly. I suspect5 Gail goes on location and tapes several videos. I bet on her next visit she'll do the closets, drawers, cupboards, etc. At least I hope so.

Katydiddle on February 12, 2011 at 7:43 pm
    • The Dream Home presentation, pictures, and vlogs are done after the Dream Home is decorated since HGTV fans want to see as much as possible as soon as possible. However, Gail has been our Super Fan for three years. She knows the way we think. I'm sure she made a closet and storage vlog because it's a question we ask her every year.

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 1:10 pm
  42. This is my first year ever hearing about the dream houses. I've looked at the ones from the past and i have to say, this one is definetly the best!

  43. Oh, that looks like heaven!! I can just see my self sinking into that tub with a good book, candles and that awesome view..In the fall, I would not be able to move from that spot!! ahhhh…..Something sweet to dream about tonight. My husband would love this, too. It would soothe his Parkinson's stiffness, so that would be so nice for him, too. LOVE it!!!

  45. The house is perfect, so clean, so calm. so soothing. It looks like a Swiss lodge, bight yet warm. I can already see my family living there….We are ready to move from Oregon to Vermont <3:) Every corner of the house has something beautiful to look at. Any idea on what the electric bill will be like? just curious ;-)
Wishing and hoping, hopeing for our dream to become a reality ;-)

  46. You're a hoot, Gail. Would never of thought of that particular perspective in viewing the master bath. And I love the way you referred to the bathroom as OUR bathroom. Sounds good the way you make it so personally, potentially OUR'S. Thanks. The view of the mountain and outside the home was incredible to say the least. The summer view must be equally, incredibly awesome with the leaves on the trees and all the wild flowers out. I can truly see it in my mind's eye, taking a walk on a soft summer evening after a gentle New England rain with the setting sun causing the lingering raindrops to sparkle on all the trees and lower foliage. Something special about a summer rain in the woods. Makes all the leaves reflect back the light that shines on them. So beautiful!
Well, less than a week. Yipee! Good luck to all!

NAllen on February 12, 2011 at 12:22 am
  47. Hi Gail! I am wondering if you think chocolate covered strawberries brought in my husband during a hot soaking bath should be a staple? :)

    1dream4me2 on February 12, 2011 at 12:43 am
    • 1dream4me2, I can answer that for you as the resident chocoholic on this blog….Y E S ! ! !

Lessie on February 13, 2011 at 1:13 pm
  48. My toothbrush is packed, and my family is ready to move in. I'm not worried about storage. Everything you need is there. Just bring some clothes and move in. This is the best location for a Dream House, at least for me. We love the cold weather and snow and if we were picked as the winners, we do our best to keep the home in as nice condition as we received it. Okay, I'm dreaming away here. . . . . but it's fun. . . . . HGTV has outdone itself.

    snowbunny01 on February 12, 2011 at 1:22 am
  49. You would have to be insane not to love this bathroom! The re-finished tub is amazing, but it's that HUGE glass-enclosed shower that's to die for. I can see how the curtains framing the doorway might not be for everyone, but they're just sooo dramatic… I think they're perfect. For those of you concerned about privacy because of that marvelous picture window by the tub, I do believe I saw somewhere that they had some of those nifty programmable blinds up in there, too.

    KtBug831 on February 12, 2011 at 1:24 am
  50. This is the most ravishing & luxurious view ever! I'm a photographer/designer & this area is literally like a vision in a dream. The art that can be created here is so extremely inspiring & uplifting. I could only imagine having the opportunity to live in this perfectly built & beautifully designed home with these unbelievably picturesque landscape views right outside the windows! Aaaww, I can only imagine:)
