  1. Understandably, on the surface, it seems disappointing to win an amazing home and then have to sell it again. However, the whole point of the sweepstakes is to enjoy the process, appreciate the home for what it is and is not, but not to get fixated on the idea that you MUST keep THIS particular home, no matter how attractive the IDEA seems to you. It never ceases to amaze me that some folks feel that selling the Dream Home is unthinkable. Not only is it thinkable, it's probably the wisest thing that the lucky winner could do. Unless, of course, wealth is already in your favor.

    • Thanks so much for helping this IDEALIST view this from a realistic point of view! Off to the drawing board she goes….

DHWinner on February 28, 2011 at 12:41 pm
    • Great advice Coop!

Lessie on February 28, 2011 at 3:45 pm
    • Very well said. Only once could I have made this dream a complete reality and that was the Sonoma home. My work has an office in Santa Rosa, which is close by. I have put in for this home since 1999 and will continue because it is fun to dream and think about winning, and watch the actual winner and every thing else associated with entering, especially waiting after the draw between the drawing and the show because none of us know (except the winner a few days out). THAT is what this is about. Don't be too disappointed, enjoy the ride, it's really kind of fun :) , as fun as you make it…there is always next year if this is not the year. Thanks DBCoop

  2. As HGTV spokeswoman Emily Yarborough was quoted as saying: "Our vision of the dream is that it enables you to do what you want to do." In other words, the point is, even AFTER selling the Dream Home and paying off the taxes, or, simply by taking the cash offer, smart winners have plenty of greenbacks left to live their dream, including renovating their own home, or buying or building a new one. I don't know about you, but it sounds good to me.

DBCoop on February 27, 2011 at 10:11 pm
    • I don't know how the Dream Home gets me to fall in love with it every year. I think it uses "the grass is always greener on the other side" trick.

You're right Coop, and it sure doesn't hurt to take everything you love about all the HGTV Dream Homes you've seen and meld them together into your own HGTV Dream Home version. I'll have to start making my list of "must haves" in my own Dream Home.
      1. Radiant heated floors.
      2. Rinnai water heaters

Cami on February 28, 2011 at 12:38 am
      • Now that's a great idea, Cami. Where would your perfect dream home location be? Would that be Hawaii? You might not need radiant heat flooring there, but who knows! Maybe you'd want it just in case a cold day comes along now and then.

DBCoop on February 28, 2011 at 11:16 am
      • Of course, I always fall in love with each Dream Home as well. How could you not?! From start to finish, it's not only exciting, but HGTV and Jack T always do such an amazing job choosing dreamy locations and then building the most stunning homes. There's always so much to dream about, but in the end, I stay true to my dreams. Besides, I get to learn all kinds of information about new places, and new sites for my travel list of "must see" places to visit…and even a few ideas to add into the mix of my very own dreams.

DBCoop on February 28, 2011 at 11:24 am
        • I too fell in love with this years dream home as well as all the others. But if truth be told there are things that I would want in a dream home that is different than this one. My dream home would be a single story, 3 to 4 bedroom with an office/library.( I have always wanted a library with floor to ceiling bookshelves and a huge fireplace.) The kitchen would be a chef's dream of course, lol. All the bells and whistles, as they say. Awrap around porch would be great. I don't know there are lots of other features I would probably want if I just took the time to think of them.

funfordot on February 28, 2011 at 12:12 pm
        • I don't know about the dream home being in Hawaii. I think that would be great, but don't know if they will ever do it, lol. But a nice long vacation there would be a nice thing to do. My husband used to live there and fly some of the tours. He would love to go back. I have never been there but to hear him talk about it is a wonderful thing. The places he talks about that are not in the brochures are so great. OK. I will add my vote for Hawaii.

funfordot on February 28, 2011 at 12:14 pm
      • Except this year the grass is always greener when its artificial turf at the 2011 HGTV Green Home in Stapleton, CO. And it should feature your radiant floors and tankless water heater, though the spell checker here wants me to say its a thankless water heater, haha.

  3. Mary, How long do we have to stay in the dog house? I've learned my lesson can I be let out now?;)

Cami on February 28, 2011 at 12:06 am
    • Cami I think we have 50 posts to go before there is a thought of a new thread. However, at the
rate we are going at around March 2 we should hear from someone about something. Hang
on because soon there will be a comotion with balloons flying outside and news of a winner.

SandyLA on February 28, 2011 at 2:41 am
      • we should be under 20 posts to go now, if we are going to 1000. Let's do it!

  4. Aloha bloggies! Yes I want the next HGTV Dream Home to be in HI! My kids would really like to live down there.

AKDad on February 28, 2011 at 12:36 am
    • I am all with you Aloha Dad. Hawaii gets the vote. What a new dream that would be!!!

SandyLA on February 28, 2011 at 2:42 am
      • AKDad I think alot of people would agree with you. Who wouldnt love sitting under the sun on whitesand beaches…AHHH!! Take in those rays^_^… No really all jokes aside I think HGTV got the memo too because they put "some place tropical" for the next dream home under a new voting post off the main page! Of course the tropical option is winning with a whopping sixty-two percent!!!

        Dreamgirl03 on February 28, 2011 at 12:17 pm
        • I guess I should go look again, lol. I haven't seen the someplace tropical yet. Here I go!

Come on folks, let's get Hawaii on top of the list. Or on the forefront of their thoughts. Or whatever we have to do lol

funfordot on February 28, 2011 at 12:23 pm
          • Aloha funfordot yeah I was shocked to see it myself!! I dont believe I have ever seen two different polls on two different pages about the location of the next dream home! I may be wrong but its cool that they included that option. They like us …they really like us! I bet DBCoop will be excited:)

            Dreamgirl03 on February 28, 2011 at 12:30 pm
  5. HI Everyone…i love checking in on the Blog and the hgtv.com website because it helps keep the dream more alive to see others dreaming too. As for HI for next Dream Home. I have not ever been to HI! I hear amazing things about HI.

  6. Its mid day and just a few hours more before we say goodbye to February….Okay bloggies of HGTV are you ready for the excitement? March here we come!!!^_^

    Dreamgirl03 on February 28, 2011 at 12:10 pm
  7. If they are waiting for 1000 posts before they give us something new, I think we can do that by tomorrow. Yes, I possitively think it is doable! lol

funfordot on February 28, 2011 at 12:16 pm
  8. I am not really thrilled about any of the places that we have to chose from on the poll for the next dream home. I would love to see Louisiana, Texas, the mountains of New Mexico, or Colorado. OH I FORGOT HAWAII! lol

funfordot on February 28, 2011 at 12:18 pm
  9. Thinking ahead to 2012, and the possibility of a country-inspired home, not only is a reinterpretation of quilting, or one or more patterns such as the Bethlehem star, a possible source of inspiration…..but also weathervanes! How fun to think of a grouping of three to five medium-sized weathervanes on display shelves on a feature wall in one or more of the rooms. For example, a grouping of more traditional weathervanes featuring either domesticated animals or wild animals native to the locale in the kitchen/dining area, or a grouping of more whimsical weathervanes such as a dinosaur, a mermaid or a Viking ship in a child/guest bedroom. Can’t wait to see what Linda Woodrum has up her sleeves! And, where the home is located!

    a_fan on February 28, 2011 at 12:39 pm
  10. Hello everyone just a reminder to vote on the poll on HGTV mainpage on the location of the next dream home!!! The options are: Somewhere tropical, A thriving metropolis, or A secluded mountaintop!!! The tropical option has a slight lead over a secluded moutaintop right now! Will that change???

      mamamaria2011 on February 28, 2011 at 8:16 pm
      • It is a local scholarship sponsored by a local radio station, some other local businesses and WV Wesleyan College. Only kids who live in certain counties in WV can apply. They choose one student each year to receive the scholarship.

Janzee on February 28, 2011 at 4:55 pm
    • Thank you Deer, I'll bet Vermonters are counting the days till spring, when the mud melts subside, and the green of spring envelops the whole community. Just to be there at that time to take photos for a Gail type art wall would be fantastic.

  20. *hive five* that ALWAYS happens to me too!!! In fact..lol.. not even 5 mins ago the in laws stopped by unexpectedly to store something in our garage and I'm in my Joe's Crab Shack shirt that says "Got Crabs?" on the front (lol!!) and a pair of sweatpants..haven't even taken a shower yet.. And I'm like.. of course you'd stop by! You never do when the house in clean, not to mention me! Even worse is that they're neat freaks.. Oh well!

  22. Hi everybloggie,
That is so funny ~ but true, you put lemon polish on the piano until you can see your face in it, and no one stops by. The one morning that you burn the toast, spill the dog's water dish and have not finished clearing the breakfast table…is when the in laws pop in for a surprise visit.

The same goes for visits to the grocery store. Has anyone else noticed that when you go shopping for bread and milk while wearing lip gloss and a snazzy jacket…you never see anyone you know. However…anytime you dash out for a quick supermarket trip and you're wearing gardening clogs and paint-splashed jeans…you bump into at least three of your old friends in the dairy aisle :O( lol

Good luck faithful bloggers, keep the dream strong !

    XO

GoldieLocksBear on February 28, 2011 at 9:55 pm
    • While I haven't experienced EXACTLY the same problems, GoldieLocksBear, such as the lip gloss for example, I'm sure most of us have had that kind of shared mishap.

With that in mind, remember that the Dream Home winner's ambush is said to be scheduled on or around March 12, so hopefully all will be in order when your doorbell rings and there's a video camera rolling when you answer it.

DBCoop on February 28, 2011 at 10:55 pm
      • Hi DBCoop,

Yes, wouldn't it be absolutely amazing if a blogger were to win ! However, I've never seen an ambush that included balloons AND snow on the ground. lol. I wouldn't blame the film crew for preferring to roll those cameras in a warm location. You never know, perhaps the HGTV ambush team own down jackets :O)
It may be cold here, but I'm keeping The Dream warm !

  23. Well, it's close to the date, and I am guessing that someone out there knows that they are close to winning. It's not me so far, as much as I want it, I am so happy for the person who did! Congrats!

    1dream4me2 on February 28, 2011 at 9:57 pm
    • 1dream4me2, I like your style. "Someone out there knows they are close to winning." From the comments I've read, many people feel they will win. Can't wait to see if their feelings are correct. Personally, I wouldn't trust my feelings. They may lead me down paths I may not necessarily want to go.

Lessie on February 28, 2011 at 10:43 pm
  24. This is too cute!

    JSaint2 on February 28, 2011 at 11:50 pm
  25. I just realized that the winning Dream Home Housewarming Gifts and Giveaway which we voted on earlier will also be announced during the televised DH 2011 Giveaway Special on March 19. While I'd prefer to win the Dream Home, it would be a nice surprise to be the winner of the housewarming gifts.

DBCoop on March 1, 2011 at 12:19 am
  26. CURIOUS? I know I am…as to how many entries were submitted for the Dream Home 2011 Sweeps.
Based on last year's number of entries, which was 40,640,242, my mathematically induced guess is as follows:
    1. all were even numbers (multiples of 2, that is, 0 x 2=0; 1 x 2=2; 2 x 2=4; 3 x 2=6), and with a pattern of 4,0 – 6 – 4,0 – 2 – 4,2

    2. based on that modified linear pattern, and taking into account that entrants could submit up to two votes per day per eligible person, then

    3. with an expected increase in voter interest, and the two vote daily option (which some folks would not avail themselves of) therefore

    4. a final entry tally of something less than 80,000,000 would be expected

    5. taking that idea, and applying a strict linear model to it, I estimate the entry number for 2011 will come in at about 76,543,210. (Note — this is an absolute linear progression, from higher to lower digits, with a margin of error of plus or minus .005%)

Any thoughts on the final number of entries?

DBCoop on March 1, 2011 at 1:12 am
    • Of course, wild guesses, hunches, ESP, crystal ball, tea leaves, or psychic hotline predictions are all just as valid as any! Have at it!

Naturally, MARY and friends at HGTV, its associated entities, and advertised product sponsors and their families are ineligible to place guesses, since in all likelihood, they already know EXACTLY how many entries there are!

Shouldn't there be some kind of a prize for the closest guess? Maybe a GMC Acadia Denali, or something modest along those lines?

DBCoop on March 1, 2011 at 1:28 am
    • 71,000,000. I used my Extra Special Perception Equation. B)

Cami on March 1, 2011 at 3:10 am
      • A good number, Cami. Does that include all of Melly 1979's extra entries for her family members?

DBCoop on March 1, 2011 at 11:52 am
    • 98,000,000

funfordot on March 1, 2011 at 9:28 am
      • Are you sure, funfordot? You're talkin' some mighty big numbers there. Not that HGTV wouldn't mind, I bet! Funny how that works. They'd like to see the number of entries as high as possible, and we'd like to see the number of entries as low as possible, to increase our chances of winning!

DBCoop on March 1, 2011 at 11:58 am
        • I know I entered twice a day for me and my husband so that is 4 a day. If there was right at 41,000,000 last year then double that would be 82mil. Then you have to admit there was much more interest this year with the rose parade float. So add another just say 20mil. That would be over 100 mil. Then take some off we have 98mil lol. Just guessing. Sounded good to me.

funfordot on March 1, 2011 at 1:11 pm
    • Just to throw another monkey wrench into things, Coop.. This year almost all of my immediate family is under financial distress..so I entered all of them in everyday along with myself and my husband.. So thats 2, and then another 10 people..times two..times 48 days? Holy schnikees batman! ;)

      Melly1979 on March 1, 2011 at 11:44 am
      • Hmm, I wonder if I need to rethink my magic formula based on all those extra entries, Melly1979?

DBCoop on March 1, 2011 at 11:49 am
    • I entered approximately 50 times, so according to your impressive linear progression, my chances are 1 in 1,530,864.

      Hmm. That's depressing.

Wait… glass half full… hmmm… got it! It'd be that much more exciting if I won— to be that lucky would be something to celebrate in itself!

  29. Hey! There is a new vlog with 3 videos on the Green Home site.

funfordot on March 1, 2011 at 11:54 am
  30. Okay, time to break out the lucky charms, (no, I don't mean the cereal) and get ready for the random computer draw of the Dream Home winner's name tomorrow, March 2nd. Not that anyone except a few insiders (like HGTV President Jim Samples) will know the winner's name for awhile yet, but just to be on the safe side, focus your attention on getting the computer to pick YOUR name out of the millions that are in its little memory files, and may the force be with you!

DBCoop on March 1, 2011 at 12:10 pm
    • Coop, I am unable to remember exactly when the drawing is. Is it only on the computor or is it
on the TVas well? Do you know the time of the drawing? I seem to think that it takes place in
Tennessee, right? Which time zone is that? My guess is 81,280,484 double of last year final
count of how many entries there is this year. I may change my mind but for right now that's
what I think! If you can help with the information I would be very greatful. Thank you and
      Good Luck!

SandyLA on March 1, 2011 at 4:45 pm
      • As for the time of day of the drawing, that's a closely guarded secret. I'm sure they don't want someone with a telephoto lens secretly recording the winner's name and address as HGTV President Jim Samples hits the computer key that makes the ultimate selection. It is scheduled to take place, however, on March 2nd. The winner is then "ambushed" on or around March 12th, and the Dream Home 2011 Winner's Reveal will then be televised on March 19th at 8/7 central. Knoxville is in the Eastern Time Zone. Be sure to check your local listings for the time and station near you.

DBCoop on March 1, 2011 at 6:55 pm
  31. I wonder if that means they already did the drawing. Someone let me know when they do the drawing, so I can stop trying to WILL (with my mind) the winning entry to the West side of the US.

"OH WINNING ENTRY COME FROM THE WEST SIDE OF THE U.S."

Cami on March 1, 2011 at 1:03 pm
    • The page Dated Feb 28th, says "On behalf of Lutron Electronics, Co., Inc., select members of the consumer electronics press were allowed access to this year's HGTV Dream Home 2011 Giveaway last week. We were escorted at this event by Lutron's senior public relations manager Melissa Andresko , and Jack Thomasson, a professional house planner who produces the HGTV Dream Home. The actual drawing is most likely to have occurred at this event last week with out of town sponsors in attendance… Between this report and Tomorrow being the 2nd, Its definitely time to be on the the look out .

    Monica Pedersen – HOSTESS
    Jack Thomasson – HOUSE PLANNER
    Linda Woodrum – DESIGNER
    Walter Frame – DEVELOPER
    Paul Rousselle – ARCHITECT
    Ian Amblien – LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT
    Brendan O'Reilly – BUILDER
    Peter Miller – PHOTOGRAPHER
Jamie Durie, Robb Weller, Sabrina Soto & Ahmed Hassan HGTV ROSE BOWL HOSTS & HOSTESS
And of course Mary your HGTV Contributor to this Wonderful Blog and anybody I may have missed!
    GOOD LUCK to ALL!

    • There's already a party being planned with some of the people mentioned above in attendance. It's usually called winner's weekend. It's a party!!

"Main Sponsor may require the potential Grand Prize Winner to travel with a guest at Main Sponsor's expense to the 2011 HGTV Dream Home for promotional purposes on a date to be determined by Main Sponsor from April 14-April 17, 2011"

I guess you can have your own party later, if you'd like.

    • Did you tell us if Boo would fit in the Doggie DH? I guess Amarillo is in the west so Good
      Luck!

      • Yes Boo would fit in the Doggie DH. And the second room would be perfect for her best friend Gabby.

        Good luck to you too

  34. According to Deerspring's post (thank you) with the link to an article about Lutron and the Dream Home, the approximate number of entries was 76,000,000. I'm surprised that the number got out this early, since HGTV seemed to guard the entry tally very carefully until after the drawing had taken place.

Well, I'll be curious to find out the exact number, and see how close my "mathematical" guesstimate of 76,543,210 came to the EXACT count!

Lucky for us that even though the entry count is nearly double this year over last, it's primarily because we were able to submit two daily entries, and therefore the odds, though slim, are still about the same as last year. Somebody's going to win the Dream Home, so it might as well be me, or possibly YOU!

  35. Soney and I have grown accustomed to this state. Here is another rendition of this beautiful song about the great state of Vermont. Can't believe it is almost over or it's not over until it's over or something like that. Tomorrow will be a lucky day for one DH winner. This trip to Stowe has been one heck of a ride. Hope we can take another journey with you all when the new clues begin. If the new DH is in Hawaii Mary might have a hard time finding clues. Many great detectives here. Over and Out! 36. Mary, I hope you get well soon because I know you wouldn't ignore faithful HGTV bloggers by keeping us in the dog house this long. If this is intentional, what's your husband's name? I'd like to send him an "Escape from the Dog House" pass cuz it's a terrible place to be!!!

  38. Just wanted to pop in and wish everyone the very best for the drawing tomorrow! Maybe someday they they will actually do the drawing live……we can only hope. Wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall tomorrow and see everything as it unfolds first hand???
I have a feeling our next thread will be " We've Chosen the Winner"……
Hope to see a blogger's balloons flying high when we watch the winner's reveal! :)

  41. I just laughed at the little Dog House. I just had to put down my 13yr old Great Dane mix, I think he would of thought I was nuts if I told him to sleep in there. I laughed out loud and wanted to say thanks for brightening my day. I love the People House too. HGTV rocks! You are always coming up with inspiring ideas and sharing those of our fellow neighbors too, thanks…

  42. Our 4 kids have been "begging" for a dog for a LONG time. The debate at Christmas was that if they ONLY put a dog on their Christmas list, Santa will HAVE to bring them one. (However, there were too many other wants that happen to be on their lists…. but puppy was still there!) So, if we win the dream home, I too, will be so excited to have that cute little puppy in the "doggy Dream Home". And…. now that our "baby" is 2, I think I can tackle taking on a dog….. after all, it seems like mom's eventually become the caretaker of yet another…. If so, we will have a fish and turtle for sale! :)
