HGTV Dream Home 2012: Clue Four

Happy Tuesday.
Is everyone feeling pretty strongly that HGTV Dream Home 2012 is west of somewhere? I would have to agree with you.
I think today’s photo clue might steer you in the right direction.

Another clue to my dear beloved Virginia does appear in clue #2. The word is elephant.
The elephant is the symbol of the Republican party. Per Wiki-"An influential Founding Father, Jefferson envisioned America as a great "Empire of Liberty" that would promote republicanism.[2]" It appears alongside the words marble, men and destiny.
As one of the America's founding fathers and the founder of the University of Virginia, Thomas Jefferson is immortalized in bronze (on a marble base) in the front of the main entrance to the campus of the university. Much of the campus is designed with marble columns, stairways, and terraces.
The word "reel" also appears on that same board. A reference to Virginia's official dance the Virginia Reel, perhaps?
GOOOOOO VIrginia!
One things for sure you've lobbied the hardest. I don't have any wind in my sail. I'm just adrift in the great big blue.=/
We have all hit the wall at times. Part of it is the lack of clues. Last year we had 8 clues by now.
This one is a real stumper. It could go three different ways depending upon clue interpretation. As a register lobbyist I have an easier time figuring out the dastardly deeds of federal lobbyists to this mind game. o.0
But for the sake of consistency, goooooo Virginia!
I don't really care where the Dream Home 2012 is built, I would like to see a house designed for a family that could have two boys, one that is a teenager and one that is under 10 years old. there were two past Dream Homes that had rooms designed for little girls, all pink. I just don't want to see pink girl rooms again…
Uni-sex rooms would be great !!!
Going back to square two, or the Clue Two Scrabble board for a quick recap of previous links:
Elephant — a community in Bucks County, Pennsylvania
Vine — Niagara Grapes, used by Welch's of North East, PA for their white grape juice
Marble — Pennsylvania is famous for their blue marble and numerous quarries
Quartz — one of the most common minerals in the Keystone State
Egg — we discussed the Dutch farm country red beet eggs, and brought back memories, good and not so!
By the way, did you know that there is an Adams Island AND an Eves Island in Lehigh County, PA?! I have no idea if that has anything to do with Nabisco's Apple Newtons, or the Dream Home clues for that matter. But it is food for thought.
If they had a Fig Leaf Island I'd REALLY be impressed !
No Fig Leaf Island that I'm aware of, LLColeman. But they do have a Fig Leaf Boutique in Pittsburgh. It's a woman's clothing shop. Not sure if they carry the type of fig leaf shown in MARY's photos however.
Keswick Estates! It is Keswick Estates isn't it Mary?!?! PLEASE say yes!!! Please, please, please, please, please…
GOOOOOOOOOO VIRGINIA!!!!
You may have already mentioned this but: http://www.keswickvineyards.com/
There is a major quarry less then three miles from the Keswick Hall Estates properties, too! Google map the location and take a look around, it is all coming together!
Keswick was considered the "western frontier" during the first half of the 18th century.
All of my research (which is now substantial!) takes me to this location, albeit as long as west of California really is California, MD, which I believe it to be.This is, as Thomas Jefferson referred to it, “Eden.” We are going back this summer on vacation because we LOVE it in Charlottesville! We only had a couple of days last year, so we want to spend significantly more time in the area this go around. GOOOOOOO VIRGINIA!
Well this is interesting. Timing is right. http://kukuiula.com/pages/Blog/
Kukui'ula is the one to watch.
Wow, a grand opening for Kukui'ula starting June 13. Do you think we'll have to wait for the grand unveiling of Clue Five until June 13th?
And the special drink for the occasion is the spiced GBT. If they'd named it a spiced HGTV, I guess that would be too obvious. However, another clue would definitely spice up the Dream Home blog. This one is getting a little 'thread' bare, wouldn't you say? ^_^
Did you know that Bucks County Pennsylvania and Kauai County Hawaii both have an area of 622 sq. miles. http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/15/15007….
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucks_County,_Pennsy…
The first stone of the Mason Dixon Line laid was not a boundary stone but the stone to mark the
most southeastern point of Philadelphia. By doing this they could then establish a 15 mile
distance from this location (Star Gazers' Stone) as a reference point for the boundaries to be
established 15 miles south of Star Gazers' Stone. Some inquiring Penn State students recently
discovered the location of the most southeastern point of Philadelphia by going through stacks
and stacks of old records. They were able to locate the specific location of the home on the
most southeastern edge of Philly by finding of all things an insurance card! Good job! The
location is now located on an interstate but a monument will be placed to memorialize the
spot on a bridge above the interstate.
After reading about the Wild Goose Chase Quilt, I've decided that there's definitely a colonial craft
theme going on here. Spinning (reel, weasel), weaving (woof), cornhusk (doll making), and
quilting (Wild Goose Chase), Wonder what the colonials would think of the GH "do" room???
"The corn is as high as an elephant's ear" in beautiful, bucolic Bucks County, PA! You can ride the Elephant Horseriding Trail at Lake Nockamixon, visit the town of Elephant's historic marker to the
Elephant Hotel, and see some Horton the Elephant sized, blue eggs at the Morris Arboretum in
nearby Philly. Back to Bucks County!
Steer us in the right direction? The stars were navigational guides to the colonists traveling by
ship to America. The biblical Star of Bethleham was an essential reference of the religious
sects settling in Pennsylvania (Bethlehem, PA). Mason and Dixon were not only the best
surveyors of their times but they were astronomers. Their astronomy tools helped them
chart their survey points. Finally, the North Star was followed by the fugitive slaves of the
Underground Railroad in their journey of freedom to Canada.
The first Scrabble puzzle had a theme of stripes. Stars and Stripes??? Betsy Ross?
Good morning Mary!!!!!! Any chance your feeling like teasing us with a clue? I know the Westies are probably still sleeping and what better way than to surprise your faithfuls with a surprising clue! What do you think?? Feel like a wild goose chase, or how about hanging out on a limb today?? Pleaaasseeeee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm up! The westies of the Pacific are up!
Heyyyyy, lucyourdog, what were you trying to pull ? LOL . I woke up when I heard Debra yelling,"Gooooo Virginia!" all the way down here in N. CA………..
Anxiously awaiting a new clue. I'm guessing that we have to wait until after today when the Green Home entry period ends to find out where the next Dream Home will be…they tend to stagger things to keep our interest. The non-commentable Vern blog topic gave me a chance to relax away from the HGTV blogs over the weekend, but like i said…anxiously awaiting something new.
OK Mary, we've been patient, we've been pre-empted by the OA, and took it in good spirits. But today is June 1, new month new clue, please. You know how we get when we are suffering from information underload.
Only you can provide the cure.
Mary I'm bewildered as to why you haven't posted a new clue for over a week now. Shocked really:| No wait, this is my shocked look:o Ya know if you were to post another non-clue blog, you wouldn't really be interrupting anything, that's how far off course we are. Mary what do we need to do to get you back on the case?
Come on!! Move that rubber tree plant!!^_^
Thanks Cami hope you can view this video clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqo0f-q_hRw&fe…
I think it's time to organize a Mob Call-In between the hours of 12pm ET and 2pm ET. Just call HGTV and ask for Mary The Dream Home Blog leader.
I have four phones at my disposal. Plus, there is the robo-dialing function (there are benefits to being a lobbyist and knowing some tricks-haha!). Now for the email blizzard… Who says it can't snow in June…??
OMG! I really thought there would be something new today! lol I guess I was wrong. I hope it doesn't take as long as the "corner" on the UO took lol.
Here's another WWII relation to the rubber tree. Since we have nothing else to discuss. http://www.learnnc.org/lp/editions/ww2-rationing/…
This is getting ridiculous- we should be nearing Clue Seven.
Clue Four should have been posted May 23- Clue Five on the 26th – Clue Six the 30th and Clue Seven June 3. Whats the issue? If you had enough forethought to craft clues last winter- why not post them.
Has anyone researched building permits in the areas of interest?
Does anyone know of a 12-step program for HGTV bloggitus addiction? I'm ready.
Good question! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWmRAsYMeYA
Yes admitting that you have a problem is the first step. If you make it to the next step before Mary posts the next clue, then you may be on your way to recovery. Once Mary posts another clue, most get sidetracked and forget they had a problem in the first place. Good luck!!:S
I shall carry on… with all things Virginia!
Fun fact: Did you know Vern Yip not only graduated from UVA with a BA in Economics and a BS in chemistry (can you say scary smart?!), he was RAISED in McLean, VA! I knew I loved that guy, now I know why LOL!!
I love McLean too. Used to visit relatives there.
Oh yeah, I have Virginia on my mind…:D
California!!!
There is an old saying, "you can't get there from here…" (or something along those lines).
I posit that you cannot get to Bucks County, PA from south of the Mason Dixon line. Especially when you throw west of California, MD into the mix. Now add in the fact anything west of NJ from Egg Harbor Township or Vineland, NJ, places you at best in Maryland, I am sticking to my dear VIRGINIA.
West of California, MD is south of the DC/Metro area. In fact as the crow flies it lands you in the Shenandoah National Park (Shenandoah Mts-clue #1 guess) while also intersecting two other areas mentioned in clue #1: Spotsylvania & Culpeper.
Purists would bristle at the notion Charlottesville would be considered anything but central VA, but in the broad sense and a peek at a map none Virginians could easily conclude the Shenandoah Mountain Valley agricultural region is in the northern half of VA.
Dive Connections is a scuba gear company in Charlottesville. Actually, I was surprised to find four dive shops total in the immediate Charlottesville area (who knew??). Puts "fin" and "dive" right in the mix.
Mary, please…, send up a flare.
Clue #2, Mary instructs us, "don't be afraid to go "out on a limb." Academy Award winning actress Shirley McLaine penned the book, "Out On A Limb." Shirley McLaine was born in-drum roll please-Richmond, VIRGINIA!!!!
We have ascertained the photo of the fig tree was taken in Australia. Using the navigational references first cited by Ferdinand Magellan, when you look at a map of the world, and taking into account the International Date Line, the continental USA is west of Australia. Hawaii is east of Australia. Thus this makes Virginia west of somewhere.
GOOOOO VIRGINIA!
The fig tree also bears a striking resemblance to the Tree of Life:
"According to some scholars, the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, portrayed in various religions and philosophies, are the same tree.[2] According to others, however, the tree of life concept is distinct from the tree of knowledge of good and bad, if only because eating from the latter leads to death and not life, and because it is mentioned in Genesis that there exists a distinct tree of life in the Garden of Eden ( although humans are barred from entry to the Garden by the time it is mentioned)." [Citation Wiki]
Thomas Jefferson an accomplished student of the esoteric sciences often referred to Monticello as the Eden of the United States. I thoroughly agree!
clue five is here!@!!
THANK YOU!!
Soney and I are taking a music break. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-P8fJ9v3ic&fe…
I can only imagine what your iPod must have on it LOL!!B)
Rhode Island has 373 mountain peaks….and Sally goes to the Mountains.
Also….Hasbro is the manufacturer for Scrabble. Hasbro's Corporate HQ is located in Rhode Island.
The name Rhode Island, or Red Island…..got its' name because of the red soil found in this state. The photo of the plant is growing out of a crack with red soil or clay(Rhode Island).
West of somewhere? The majority of Hasbro Games are manufactured in East Asia. And one of the choices Mary gave us was West of California…So, west of California…go towards East Asia, and then back to the US and Rhode Island.
Also, proper names are not allowed to be used in the game of Scrabble. See below:
Hawaii……the Big Island, color for this island is Red.
Vail…..Mountains, Sally goes to the Mountains.
Google…..a search engine, HQ in California, so west of California on the world wide web.
Which brings me back to exactly where I want to be……..Rhode Island!!!
Rhode Island 2012, Yay!!!
Or……..the location could be the Big "Red" Island of Hawaii. Also a spectacular location!!!!!
I agree…mangrove…Kauai North shore along the Wailua River
Nevada! Final answer
ITS IN UTAH!
